Izzys in other cities:
Love their food, were in Cincy about once a month and Izzys is one of our favorite places to eat there and we were looking forward to eating there, but tonight we were shooed away 20 minutes before closing. Neither of us is difficult and we wouldve been done in a timely manner. We both noticed the crew was considerably younger than were used to and perhaps that explains the poor lack of service because in the past theyve always been good to us. No signage was posted telling us dining room was closed
If I could give it zero stars I would. I ordered this for the first time and placed a Togo order . They put no meat on the salad and gave me the wrong dressing. It was not good at all. The customer service when I called was not great either. Maybe other locations are better, but this one was horrible.
Service was top notch. Such a friendly face at the register. I placed a to go order. I decided to try the new Angus sammich. Roast beef had no flavor and was DRY DRY DRY. It was edible but nothing special. My go to is the izzy mex. I will stay w that from now on. Potato cake and cabbage soup were both delish!
Forest Park location- Went inside no one was there lady says sit down Ill be with you. We sit down two other tables sit down SHE GOES TO THEM BOTH FIRST takes drink orders then comes to us, no big deal. Then she brings drinks to the other table and takes there order when WE where there first. She goes back gets drinks for the other table takes them over gets there order and that is when we get up and say thanks for serving the people who got here after us first and giving us old dried out pickels we are leaving have a nice day.We left and I went back in because I had to use the bathroom asked her if she could tell me where the bathroom was and maybe she could actually provide some customer service and this arrogant witch has the nerve to tell me Im nasty.
A sweet elderly man took my order. It was a Friday at 4, not too busy but had 3 drop off orders. I went in instead of calling bc I had 3 people I was ordering for & mine was a bit specific. I like to watch people making my food whenever possible. It was wonderful except they forgot the mayonnaise.
Although the food was good and the service was fast. I feel that the menue items are grossly over priced for what you receive. Ive eaten at delies all over the country so I know what a true cornbeef sandwich should look like. I spent over $10 bucks for a half cornbeef and swiss on rye with a greasy potato pancake. Not impressed with the food quantity. I wont spend my money here again during my next visit to the area.
We use to have one in Dayton when I was a kid. Sometimes I get a craving so I have to take that 45 min trip to get my fix.... But let me tell you this. They have a new burger, I forget what its called but they just took it to a new level with this and if you dont know about the potato cakes already you gotta stop sleeping and wake up.
Good to great deli sandwiches. This is a chain, so I dont think they do the meat in-house, but decent food. The potato pancakes used to be my favorite, but either they are greasier now or my stomach cant handle the grease as well. If I blot it on a napkin for the 5min it takes me to wolf down my reuben, its often a little better.
I like this place but they do not get your order right. The first time I didn’t say anything and ate it anyways. Second time I went my order was wrong again so I had them remake it and they were rude and gave me the nasty hard meat with the fat stuck to it. They need to better and get people order right the first time and had the nerve to tell me I have to pay twice because of their mistake.
Can be hit and miss sometimes, especially ordering extra meat. Today, my corned beef sandwich was excellent and the portion generous. Its not always the case.Service was friendly though I had a feeling staff felt overwhelmed, even at 2:30 p.m. There was an error on my check, but it was handled quickly and I experienced no additional wait for my carryout order.
I really try not to patronize restaurants right before they close, for the obvious reasons so the staff can get out of there quicker. That being said, I needed some dinner, so I showed up to Izzys 15 minutes before close to eat in. I sat at a small table, and ordered quick, and ate quick. Besides that, I was polite. Being polite and cleaning up after yourself and bussing your own eatery goes a long way with your wait staff. Be kind to them, theyre folks like you and I, And you might just get extra potato cakes too!
Really excellent little deli that had great and friendly service. Service was fairly quick as well, so good place for a fast business lunch. Excellent Reuben sandwich, well stacked with pastrami. Soups were also very good if you desire something lighter. Clean restaurant, restrooms no problems. Spoke with owner who was pleasant and happy for our business. Overall, much recommended.
Loved it! Staff was warm inviting & knowledgeable. Pickles at the table were a nice touch. Corned Beef & Swiss on rye - very good (prefer more corned beef) and the potato cake on the side was a nice touch, however a little greasy for my liking. Will definitely be back when I am in the neighborhood.
Waited over an hour for food on a Saturday afternoon, had to beg for drinks and silverware. When the food finally came we got 3 meals but they forgot to even start my kids meal. Tried to talk to the manager and she just looked at me like she could have cared less. Overall one of the worst experiences in a long time!
Service was not that great. Waitress stood in front of our cold food for quite a while before serving it. Food was pretty good but also pretty cold. Chef was excellent and not to be blamed. Waitress couldnt seem to grasp the fact that we were paying for her to actually, SERVE us.
Izzys is pretty decent food but the quality seems hit or miss to me. Sometimes the potato pancakes are perfect but other times theyre undercooked in the middle. The sandwiches are good enough. The real reason I gave 3 stars as opposed to 4 is because the service here is lackluster. If you eat in the servers sometimes seem almost annoyed or bothered to be taking your order. It can take a while to be greeted and have your order taken as well.
I have been going to Izzys in Forest Park for over 10 years and usually order Reuben meals on Monday nights for my family because of the great discount. However tonight I didnt receive the discount that I received over the phone from the person that took my order. He did not apply the Monday special or if it changed he should have notified me with a simple answer that we no longer offer that anymore. He just told me I should have requested the discount. Really !!!
If you love Reubens, this place may have the best ones (ask for it grilled, it comes with a crispy buttered rye bread). The potato pancake that comes as a side is a nice addition, with mustard. For those who dont like the pickled sandwich, they offer other options, but I just cannot say no.The staff is always nice, the food always hot (dine in or to go), and the service always quick. A great spot for lunch, or even dinner.Highly recommend this place!
Was in the area shooting a wedding and wanted to eat something different then the same old stuff. Looked on Yelp and saw the great reviews so we tried it out. Food was great, staff was funny, and the price was perfect for what we got. Next time we are in Cincinnati we will have to stop by again. Give it a shot and go for the Ruben its great!
Todays lunch was nasty. The corned beef was not what I had last month. Was it old corned beef ? Was it old chipped ham ? Please serve hot soup. I do not remember the thousand island dressing runny. The potatoes were good, but that is it. The owner was not there today. The guys back there need to be canned and are completely useless to the company. I will not be back.
For those people that think Izzys is overpriced, its obvious that they havent purchased quality deli meat. The service is fast and friendly. It takes a little while to cook, but thats because they slice and grill to order. For those who think its too expensive I suggest baloney. I am 67 and weigh a little under 300 lbs. I ate half my sandwich, and my side, and had to save the rest for later. I was very full.
Izzys famous potato pancakes have gone downhill in recent years. I was disappointed with the one that I had two days ago. It was gummy and lacked the unique flavors that makes it a popular food item of/in the greater Cincinnati region. The Corned Beef & Swiss sandwich was very good with no fat and an ample amount of cheese. My choice of sandwiches vary with each visit for myself and family members. My eldest son decided to try a bumped up version of a Reuben I shared with him when he was a teenager. Light sauerkraut and added grilled onions. Izzy has the tendency to overstuff their Reubens with sauerkraut which makes the sandwich soggy, especially when doing carryout.
Simply the best Reuben sandwich this side of Katzs Deli in NYC or ATX. A Cincinnati tradition for decades this family owned restaurant wows with great portions and high quality food. The potato pancakes are addictive. If you are in the Cincinnati area, go, your taste buds will thank you.
NEVER AGAIN! Boyfriend an I ate here 12/29/16 The Staff was lazy, the food was horrible. One waitress for lunch and her elevator didnt go all the way up, full dirty tables and no help from the guy at the register who just stood there and watched and rung up a customer occasionally, or the guy with the ear buds who emerged from the back to remove the dish bin which wasnt even full. The food prep person didnt have time for anything. I believe everyone should help each other especially when your this busy and there isnt a table in the place. So sad I love Izzys but this location sucks and the staff should be fired! We ordered Daily Specials both with Corned Beef and Swiss and Boyfriend as for no Potato Pancake and both of us got cups of Chicken Noodle Soup. Now here is what we actually got Boyfriend got Daily Special with a Grilled Corned Beef and Swiss a Potato Pancake which was soggy and he didnt want and a Bowl of Soup because the waitress screwed up and dished out Bowls instead of Cups. I ended up with a Grilled Corned Beef and Swiss, soggy Potato Pancake also and a Bowl of soup. Soup was sooo salty and had nine hundred pounds of potatoes in it. It didnt even taste like Chicken Noodle. We didnt have time to complain she dropped the stuff off and ran she was so busy she just left us......so this is why Im ranting in this review! We never finished our lunches paid and left eww. I saw the other posts and reviews, but Ill tell you my experience was a nightmare hard to believe it was the same store. NEVER AGAIN!
Smells heavenly as soon as you walk in, their Reubens are to kill for, the corned beef is tender and cooked just right and the rye is soft and fresh. First time ever trying a Reuben and I must say that Izzys left me impressed. Prices are more than reasonable. Its a family friendly restaurant, not the biggest, but far from just another blip on the map. If youre around, you should definitely check it out. Friendly service, calm environment. Izzys claims some of the worlds best Reubens, theyve got some of the best service too.
Had some quests from Columbus area and Andrian, MI Tues 17th and wanted to take them to a local restaurant. My grandson and I decided Izzys in Forest Park was the choice. They LOVED it. First the delicious pickles and then the famous Ruben and potato pancake. The waitress was great, very friendly and we enjoyed her conversation with our questions. They were very impressed with the food and her. I wish I knew her name but she was the only waitress there. Then even bought a jar of pickles to take home.Glyn
Very rude!!! Boyfriend and I went in there. I had never been. Boyfriend kissed me on the cheek in a jokingly gesture and Im assuming the owner and/or manager very rudely said, this isnt lovers lane. I dont know if he would have said it had my boyfriend been white like me I found it very unprofessional and rude. Its not like we had our tongues down each others throat. It was a kiss on the cheek. Smh.

2021-11-12I ate there today. The food was the best thing Id eaten in a long time. The Reuben was amazing. I also love the potato cakes. What was really exceptional though, was the customer service. They seem to be operating with a full staff and everyone was super friendly and attentive to our needs. This is the first time Id had this happen in awhile. Great job.

2022-03-08Our 1st time here. Was very impressed. Stephanie was our server, in fact she was doing the entire dining room. Did a fantastic job. Our drinks never went dry and was very attentive. We ordered the Reuben and the Angus melt. Along with the potato pancakes. Both sandwiches came out as requested with extra cheese and mine not toasted. Cudos to the chef for an excellent sandwich. Meat was super tender, juicy and very tasty. Potato cakes were really thick and puffy with a nice crispy outside. Dining room quickly filled up with lunch goers but Stephanie kept up with no problem. All while keeping used tables cleaned up for the next guest. Would definitely recommend coming here for some excellent service and food. We will be back for second helpings. Thanks so much

2022-05-31I ordered online and want to pick it up. They had just finished the order as I walked in. Usually when we eat there they bread is warmed up, online they give you a choice of grilled or toasted. I chose grilled, it was grilled like a grilled cheese sandwich. I did not expect that, but it was so good. The only thing that I disagreed with, they charge .49 cents for extra pickles. But the food is fantastic and well worth the price.

2021-12-27Metal... Theres metal in my potato. This is unacceptable and disgusting. It looks like a piece of a scrubber used to clean a grill maybe??? Im so grossed out that I couldnt eat any of my food.I was asked in a response to email the president, John. I did so right away. Apparently he has had no interest in responding to my email. I cant believe I was asked to email if no reply would be given.

2022-05-15Had a bad experience here a few years ago and stopped going. Gave them another chance recently and was happy we did. I dont know if its new management or what, but everything was up to the standards I would expect from Izzys. Have been back a few times now and will keep going back to this one.

2022-03-21Always a great time! The waitress was great, she was so patient with our 4 year old son. The food was so good and just as we ordered. We dont get to go to Izzys often since we live in Dayton but when we get to Cincy, we eat there!

2019-07-22Izzys is a decent place to eat. Known for their Reubens, the sandwich doesnt disappoint, it was very good. It is served with their signature potato pancake, which was tasty, but a little to greasy for my liking. Kinda of little pricey, but still affordable to give a try.
