Ordered my food at 4:35. Was told that it would be ready at 5:10 for pickup. It is now 6:00 and it is still not ready. They keep taking more orders. No regard for the fact that they can’t keep up with the orders they already accepted. Poor service. Not to mention that their waiting area is now crowded with people in the middle of the omicron outbreak. The only bright side- my food was good. They just should have stopped taking orders.
Ordered shrimp fried rice paid $2 for extra shrimp only to have 5 shrimp in the entire basket! I would hate to see what it would have been without the extra! Not the same Hunan! Has got to be under new ownership, locals beware
I have been eating at Hunans for over the past 20 years. Whoever the new owners are have totally changed the taste and the quality of the food. They were known for their fried rice with all the veggies. Yesterday the rice had peas and a few onions. The beef and broccoli taste like it was made with a cheap roast. This will be my last visit there.
Follow a vegan and/or gluten free diet? Dont even bother to ask if anything in their menu suits your needs. Seems like its insulting to them. Rude, rude, rude(smh).
Shrimp egg fo young was bland and only got 2 shrimp in each patty. General Tso’s chicken was hard.
The absolute best food with the best service. I had a pretty big order with some special instructions, but nothing was missed and everything tasted great. My order was ready the minute I walked in, and they even helped me take it to my car. Cannot recommend enough! Thank you so much! We appreciate you.
I have been a customer of Hunan Coventry for many years. It has Aalways been considered by me to be the best. Last night, my husband and I got take out. It was beyond disappointing. None of the sauces tasted the same as usual, and the vegetable fried rice had no flavor. I will try to take out from there one more time, but it will be quite some time before I do. I hope that the original chef and recipes return.
Never have had a problem ordering from here. Typical Chinese restaurant. Friendly staff and descent price.
Good food most of time, great potstickers. They have gone way down hill as of May 2022. Will never order again, been a customer over thirty years
My wife and I were SO impressed with the authentic flavors and decor. During these pandemic times the staff made us feel safe with masks and socially distanced tables. A wonderful experience. We highly recommend and will be back!

I ordered the Vegetable Lo Mein. The noodles were mushy and there were hardly any vegetables at all. I had to add vegetables myself at home. Really disappointing.
Ive been eating at this restaurant for almost 10 years. It was the best hands down. The last two times the food was not good. Just called and there are new owners. To bad, I wont go back.

I have been visiting this restaurant for decades. It changed ownership some years back a the food wasnt the same. However, it is now back to the high standards I remember. Havent visited for several years and had a wonderful meal. Always liked the atmosphere and music. Will be back soon.again soon!Update:Very sad to report that this restaurant has declined significantly over the last several months. The last two times Ive been in they have not been wearing masks until they come up to the counter and twice have received takeout orders with the wrong food and in the last order it was not only the wrong order but they didnt even include the rice. I will not going to be going back. Many great memories from past years but its over for me.

Food quality has declined from what it used to be, which was stellar. Friendly people and good service with market prices. Most customer traffic now appears to be take-out rather than dine-in which is sad to see happen, and may reflect change in interest as well as decline in quality. It appears from the taste of the food that the chefs have changed, and possibly have changed several times. Giving it three stars for sentimental reasons. Hope they can improve.
Today, purchased Egg Foo young, No Taste, Shrimp over cooked, tough to chew,Shrimp fried rice, again Shrimp over cooked, pepper steak 😖. Last time purchasing Chinese food from here. Soooo disappointed.
Good takeout. Nothing exceptional, but always consistent and tasty. Wide selection. Good for sharing dishes. Dine in experience is a lot better, though Ive never been there when more than 2 tables are taken.
One of the best Chinese restaurants in Cleveland. Ive been going here for years and the food is great. Its NOT the typical Chinese food you would expect - there are quite a few unique dishes here. I especially recommend the mussels in garlic sauce and white rice to start with.
Only recurring drawback is theres no correlation between how long they tell you the order will be ready in and when its ready. Told 15 minutes today, finally got food after 35Otherwise, pretty good value on the food.
Weve been going to Hunan Coventry for decades. This is the typical old-school Chinese restaurant that has become scarce these days. Cloth napkins and tablecloth add a nice touch, as does the pot of complimentary tea. Prices are reasonable and food is good. If you actually want to dine at a Chinese restaurant, this is your place.
Extremely friendly and great service! The food is ALWAYS amazing. I always order my fried rice a lil spicy and they get bnb it just right. The portions are perfect for a family and the smaller sizes will still feed two. I only wished they delivered. I am a Cleveland native and on the east or west side for that matter I only have 2 chinese restaurants that I live by and this is one. Very accomadating and relaxed I love love love this restaurant even picky people love there food. Love it!
The restaurant was nice. The waiter was super friendly and always checked on me. He made sure everything was correct. The restaurant is very clean and has a cute set up. One of the best places to get Asian cuisine!
We ordered take out which was ready quickly but the sweet and sour chicken was soggy, the food had no flavor, and the potstickers tasted burnt. Will not be returning. The only decent thing were the egg rolls.
This place has been a family favorite for decades. Whenever my brother returns to town to visit family, Hunan is always on his list as well. The food is great and the quality is consistent. Unfortunately, or fortunately if you want to eat in, it isnt very busy except around holidays.
First time at Hunan and it was different. I ordered Sesame Chicken and Crab Rangoon and I have to say they need to work on the Crab Rangoon but the Sesame Chicken was amazing. I am use to small chunks of breaded mixed white and dark meat chicken and I always found that gross. Hunan uses all white meat breaded chicken which makes me very happy! I would recommend this restaurant for takeout but as for a sit down restaurant I would not. However this by far is the best Chinese takeout food I have had in Cleveland for under $10
My absolute favorite restaurant of all time. Our family goes here often. I pretty much grew up going to this restaurant. The food is great and affordable. I would recommend this place to anyone. Great food, great service and great location.
Ive been coming here for almost 30 years. Its the best Chinese food in Cleveland! The Spring rolls, crab rangoon, fried rice, lo mein and General Tsos are absolutely fabulous. My favorite place.
Ive been going to shows at the Grog Shop since I was a kid and we always make sure to get there a few hours early to be able to eat dinner here beforehand. Everyone is extremely personable, polite, and hilarious. Most importantly, the food is outstanding!

I think service and food have gone downhill a bit over the last few years. The carry out food are made very quick like 5 mins which makes me wonder if they just heat and serve vs made from scratch. They still make the beat chicken with cashews.
I was a customer and although what happened didnt happen to me I am very upset by this interaction because it could have been me. While waiting for my food a customer came back in with the food he had just purchased (he was leaving as i was coming in) he said his food was under cooked. The first thing the rude cashier said was impossible She then took his food & walked to the kitchen. He said he wanted his money back. She said no, we will recook for you ,he said i just want my money back & the exchange went on for several minutes. The customer asked for a manager or owner she said i just told you that you can not get a refund you can order something else. They would not refund his money. There is no sign saying that there is no refund. SMH, this man was forced to get food after he clearly stated that he did not want it. What happened to the customer is always right? And who wants food from a place that under cooked meat & then argued with you as if she was the actual cook. I will never return there.
One of the first, if not the first, Hunan style restaurant in the area. It is superb and still a hands-down favorite. Nice atmosphere, not the noisy, high energy kind of place that is so popular nowadays. The food is great and thats the main reason we eat, right?

We are California transplants, growing up around Chinatown, we know good Chinese cuisine. Hunan, is by far, these best Chinese food in all of N.E. Ohio. Hands down, no questions asked.A bit pricy vs. Other Chinese food in the area, but well worth it. We usually spend around $100 for a party of 4-6.
Hounans is one of the longest-running restaurants on the Coventry strip, and theyve earned their loyal clientele by having excellent food and good service. The restaurant sits comfortably between a good place for the artsy and casual Coventry crowd to grab a bite (there is a Pokemon stop and youre not made uncomfortable if you show up in shorts and a T-shirt) and fancier dining for dates or family outings.Additionally, theyre very good about allergies -- theyll triple check your needs and wont just assume its a casual request. They dont use sesame oil in any of their cooking and can avoid cross-contamination. (I get sick at most chinese restaurants or places that use sesame extensively, but Ive never gotten sick at Hounans).Strangely, their New York Cheesecake is some of the best in town -- they usually serve is still frozen, which some people may not like, but its my absolute favorite, because its like an ice cream cheesecake. Request it not-defrosted!Theyre also wheelchair accessible and family friendly.The only real improvement Id suggest is that the single-stall bathrooms be made gender neutral instead of clearly binary (that makes it more awkward to take ones cross-gender kid or disabled companion in for caregiving, not to mention nonbinary/trans clientele). Why have a label if theres only one stall? That said, theyve never given me grief for going in the wrong one or otherwise treated me as lesser for being nongender conforming.
Ive been coming here since I was a kid and I love coming back. I remember when my son was a baby and we brought him here. An older lady, I assume the owner, held him and took him around the restaurant to see all the other employees. My wife still talks about that til this day.
Worst food ever...ribs were soggy and cold (had to put in the oven); sesame noodles had a big blob of some kind of thick sauce on it with spaghetti noodles - cold and taste-free; egg roll was a spring roll that was cold and greasy. Kung Pao chicken had no taste and only had water chestnuts and peanuts, no other veges and not spicy. Will never go back there.
Awful. I ordered a day in advance and STILL waited more than 45 minutes for the food. It was one dinner!! And it was soggy. The joint smelled like disinfectant and onion stew.
Hunan Coventry is my favorite Chinese place in Cleveland Heights. They have a clean, and typically quite, restaurant. A friendly and fast staff for dine in. Their food is So good! Best take out around, and its totally worth parking on the Coventry strip to do so. Closed Mondays (unless its Xmas). The House Special Fried Noodles are a favorite ^_^
They have the best food in the area. Their prices arent high either. Which makes it even better for me. I go just about every week to get food from there.
I ordered the sesame chicken, a large shrimp fried rice with extra shrimp, 4 egg rolls and some pot stickers. Everything was fresh and delicious as always👌🏾.
Portions are enormous and food is so delicious. Kung pao chicken was delectable. Food was meaty and taste like the meat you order. Not some soft, strange imitation like some Asian food places have.

My favorite east side Chinese restaurant. The food is always excellent. If you want something that’s not on the menu, ask and if they know how to make it, they will.
Had a wonderful experience here, foods looks good, smells good and taste good. Better come with at least one friend but its ok for one to take away the rest of the food. Highly recommended!

The Chinese Traditional list in the back of the menu included fish with cabbage. It was AMAZING. Tart and spicy and lots of cilantro. Loved it!
Hunan treats me like Im part of the community, while preparing, packaging, and serving meals like clockwork! They are a staple in Coventry, and are in tune even beyond Cleveland! 5/5 will return!

I moved out of the area several years ago and Hunans food is one of the things I miss the most. I am originally from NYC and was lucky enoungh to live in Cleveland Hts for 5 years (had to move for job) where I fell in love with Hunans. I have no family in Cleveland, but I try to find excusses to get back there a couple times of year because I love it there so muchand one must do is Hunans!
Very POOR customer service. Food was so so but the server was super rude. And I had to walk to the desk ask for water and other stuff bc the server never come to my table, not even once Im not kidding (when theres only 3 tables in the restaurant at the time).My experience there was unpleasure and uncomfortable

I frequent Hunan because the fried rice and lo mien noodles, always has the proper smoky flavor of having been cooked in a WOK. But, I had the rib app and they were so tough, I tossed them. Now today, weeks later, I had the pork egg foo young and the pork is clearly left over spare ribs. Tough-sweet meat does not belong in savory egg foo young. DO NOT TRUST the pork dishes.

2022-07-02My friend and I have been to Hunan Coventry several times. Each time we are greeted by friendly staff. The food is awesome and, the kicker for me, are the cloth tablecloths and napkins. Also, being a vegan is no problem for me. The menu is loaded with vegan options. I highly recommend a visit!!!

2022-06-03Bummer. Different ownership and you can taste the difference. I ordered w/ UberEats and everything came fine on their end. The food was delivered hot with the correct items. Unfortunately the food was not good. The vegetables in my dish tasted bitter (sour-like) as well as the sauce. Wonton Soup was good but that’s about it. I’m sure I will give them another chance and credit this to an off night… one very off night.Response to owner: my taste is just fine, thanks! You had a bad night, it happens. I will continue to come back and support.

2022-06-25My family has been ordering from Hunan for 30 years. Im incredibly disappointed that the new management has completely changed every recipe and is now serving generic, fast food Chinese. Kung Pao chicken is no longer small diced, but in huge chunks and is half filler green pepper (which was never even a part of the old recipe). Sweet and sour chicken, lo mein, and fried rice were totally dried out and clearly not fresh. Beef with snow pea pods was 75% pea pods and carrots.Management: Please go back to the old recipes! Hunan was a Cleveland Heights institution with standout food! I cannot fathom why you would change everything. You may be saving money on food costs, but it wont matter when you lose all your customers. Maybe listen to all the negative reviews from your once loyal customer base instead of writing snide responses--its a bad look.

2022-06-02Man, has this place changed. Portions are great but food taste and quality is worse than frozen dinners. Breaded chicken was soggy, noodles were cold and mushy, dumplings in wonton soup were disintegrated from sitting in the broth for way too long. Bleh.

2021-12-05We had a very enjoyable dinner. The food was well prepared, the prices reasonable, and the service, very good. We also ordered some take out for the next day…and we had the best pot stickers we’ve ever had in the Cleveland area. Looking forward to our next visit.
