Great non profit doing great work. Cannot say how impressed we are with these folks. They aided in adoption of a kitty, which bolted out of the door and was lost for a night. The next day I reported this and they sent out two representatives who recovered the cat and continued to follow up with us on her progress. Great organization.
Update: we are completely ecstatic over finding our two beautiful boys at this facility, Carver and Shiloh, pictured here. Both boys are doing great, after each having bouts with being sick, shortly after we brought them home, but they are now all better and very are happy boys!**********************They are doing Gods work, helping animals find forever homes.
Oh man! WHAT AN OUTSTANDING GROUP OF PEOPLE!! The staff is truly dedicated to what they do and show that they LOVE their work!! The facility is very clean, even with construction going on outside. The overall experience was extremely laid back, with no pretenses and no pressure to make the sale-they really care about the families and location where their animals are going and are very supportive. We LOVE our new family member, SARGE, and cant say enough good about the entire experience! Thank you to all of the staff. 😁👍🏻
Dont bother filling out an application online, apparently you can just go to the humane society and adopt a pet that someone else is in the middle of trying to adopt.I have been trying to adopt a cat that was at a Pet Supplies Plus for nearly a month now. I submitted a paper application to the Pet Supplies Plus, but then he had a minor medical issue and needed to go back to the humane society. I was told I would need to re-apply when he was adoptable again, so I checked the website until he was back on the list and submitted a new application online. It took them a couple of days to call me, then they said they needed approval from my landlord who tried to call them after work but they were already closed. So he called them the next day to give his approval. Then the next day they call to ask if I wanted to adopt two completely different cats, and only after I kept asking about the cat I had actually applied for did they tell me that apparently he was adopted between them calling me and my landlord calling them back less than 24 hours later. So apparently if you want a cat you just need to go to the humane society and adopt them on the spot, because otherwise youre going to get your heart broken...Dont get me wrong, Im glad he got adopted and I hope its a good home, but their whole adoption process is a joke.
I’ve been trying to get my cat spayed since March. I had emailed with someone and set up an appointment for April, asked to be sent the invoice (it was never sent) & less than a day later, my appointment was given away. I was told to call again May 1st, so I emailed on April 29th to make sure I was early and first in line, to be told that all the spots were booked and try again for June. The person was nice when responding, but I still think communication could of been better and they need to be better organized.Update: I sent multiple emails that got ignored. They made us chase after them for months, just to send out an email saying they’re putting a “pause” on owned cat spay/neutering. I am livid. Very poor customer service.
The HSGD provided us with an incredible experience adopting our new pup! They were quick to review my application, and the front desk is very responsive to emails. I was able to make an appointment for the next day to meet our girl. They gave us a private room to sit with her and get to know her, and we were also able to take her outside to play in their fenced-in yard. One of the staff told us in detail all that they new about our dog, including her story, breed, personality, vet check, etc. Also, the description online was very accurate! After meeting her we knew she was a great fit for us, and we were able to sign her papers, pay, and adopt her right then and there. The whole process was completely seamless. The facility was nice and clean, the dogs are treated well that I could see, and the staff was kind and efficient. Very very impressed with this facility. Thank you so much, HSGD!
They are so good at what they do! Answered all of our questions thoughtfully and with good choices and suggestions about end of life choices for our old girl. We have adopted a puppy from them through their wonderful process, and now we will trust their kind help to let a sick one go at a price we can afford.
If I could rate this place zero stars I would now dont get me wrong I support and respect all places that shelter animals and find them good loving homes but I am not impressed here. Apparently they base a online application to determine what makes good fur parents. This is totally insane since in my honest opinion you should atleast meet or set up a interview to meet the people instead of just judging by a online application to make a final decision!Never in my life have I ever been denied adopting any animal from any other shelter and feel I have been unjustly and unfairly denied for no apparent reason. I have always taken great care of any and all animals I have ever adopted and also work a great well paying job with a very clean and quiet home. One thing is for sure I will NEVER do any kind of support of good recommendations for this facility again. And the owner should be reviewed by whoever their supervisor is. Also I will be sure to tell all family, friends, and co workers to take their adoptions to SICSA who treated their customers one hundred times better!! SICSA actually cares and meets with people upon making a final decision and not just by some stupid online application. They seem to be more customer oriented and seem to care more for the animals finding good homes.
Some of the kindest and most reliable staff and establishment. Always clean and fuff of amazing animals, that are not just cats and dogs. They have worked with me multiple times to find the perfect pet for our home and they take in consideration your lifestyle and home and even previous pets to find the perfect match. All the animals are treated with incredible care and love and their housing in above adequate.
I am very impressed with this place and all the staff that work here. As an animal lover I’d like to say thank you. I brought my newly adopted kitten here to get him neutered. I was looking for an affordable option. You guys took great care of my kitten and I felt very comfortable leaving him in your capable hands. I highly recommend bringing your animals here for all their medical needs.
I brought in two strays, one I am fostering, and the other my daughter is fostering. Both got neutered! Everyone there was very caring and knowledgeable. I had no issues with the healing process! I am going to be taking in a feral. I caught her when she was close to giving birth. Since then, she has had 5 healthy kittens. They are 6 weeks old and ready for adoption. I will not be able to release her until she is spayed asap. Who knows when Ill get her in with this pandemic!?!? Thank you all!
I adopted a dog from here over two years ago and was impressed with how well they know the animals personalities. I stopped by yesterday to drop off paperwork for an event andin the parking lot ran into volunteers who were taking dogs out to play with them and were friendly and excited and again, knew the animals they had very well. The staff was encouraging and helpful when I went inside to turn in the paperwork itself. They talked to me a little about the organization I was with and they talked to me about the dog I had adopted over two years ago. Friendly staff who are honest about good and bad personality traits to ensure the animals actually go to the best match possible.
We were looking for a second dog to add to our family and the staff were so helpful and accommodating. Once we were approved, they allowed us to introduce our dog to so many other dogs and take our time interacting with them. They were very patient and even offered suggestions for what to look for in our next dog to help make sure they would get along well. While we ended up meeting our new pup at a different shelter, we had a wonderful experience here.
There is a large variety of animals here. All the workers were nice and allowed me to stay a little after they closed because I was interested in adopting. Due to extemporaneous circumstances, I didnt end up adopting through them, but I DID have my pet neutered there. They did a great job with that as well.
We recently adopted a doggie from here, and it was the BEST experience! Stephanie assisted us with the adoption, and was an absolute pleasure to interact with. You can tell how much she loves the animals there, and her insights to our dogs personality were invaluable. They do so much for their animals: micro-chipping, shots, de-worming, heartworm testing...everything to ensure their health! When it comes time to get him a fur brother, we are going here!
We went here to look for a cat to adopt - I had told my son to be ready for it not to work on our first visit since I know of the strings attached to an adoption. The staff was very friendly and helpful! They talked to us to learn about who we are and what we are looking for, provided us with a list of all the other locations they currently have cats at and gave us the good advice of calling these locations ahead to make sure the cat hasnt been adopted in the meantime. However, we didnt have to go anywhere else. Among all these cute cats looking for a home I think we found the perfect match! While we were having some private snuggle time with the little furry guy they had already made all the phone calls and got us approved for adoption in no time - and we went home with our new family member! Thanks again to the wonderful staff, keep up the good work!
I adopted my little kitten from here. She had been abondened along with her 3 brothers at 3 weeks of age. They all had to be fostered until they weighed 2 lbs. & my daughter was their foster mom. She did a great job with all of them & the shelter took care of all their medical needs. Great place & I would adopt from them again!
This Humane Society was absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, my foster to adopt didn’t work out with sweet Cayenne the Boxer mix because my dachshund is territorial and I was horribly allergic to her. Nicole acknowledged all of my concerns and helped me try to make it work with Cayenne, after a week, I decided that it was best to let Cayenne go and find a better family that will give her the freedom and love she needs. I hated taking her back to the shelter and asked about fostering her until she found a new family, understandably, thats currently not possible with COVID. I was extremely emotional when it was time to bring Cayenne back, sobbing hysterically, they were so kind to me and even allowed to leave Cayenne’s favorite blanket, which just so happened to be one of my baby blankets, and her favorite stuffed purple dog. They didn’t make me feel guilty and they understood my anguish. I feel terrible for Cayenne but I feel comfortable knowing the staff loves and cares for the animals so well.If you’re currently looking to adopt, please take a look at Cayenne the boxer/ mix. She is soo kind, she’s good with everyone and everything and she loves being outside and playing. I’ll definitely come back here when my heart is mended after failing with Cayenne.Thank you guys so much for being so kind and helpful.
The folks at the Humae Society are great. It was pretty busy on the Saturday I adopted a dog, and I understand Tuesdays are busy, too, so take that into consideration. The facility is clean, and they let you spend as much time as needed with the animal before proceeding. Everyone was very helpful, and they really care about what they do.
I was very upset when we went there this last time. We had taken a dog back because he was biting me all the time. I forgave him and went back to finalize the adoption. He was away from us for about 3-4wks. When we got him back, I ordered him a lot of toys and training snacks and a huge cage for when we were gone. He was doing good and learning all the commands, and then I noticed some things that were not right about him. We started seeing him having seizures a few days after he got home. At first they were small ones and gradually getting more severe. Every time he was having one, he would attack me. I would talk very nice and in a soft voice and that would calm him down. The final night we had him, he went crazy. His eyes would turn deep black and then Bam! They were so bad he didnt even u who any of us were. If someone hadnt heard me yelling for help, I sure he would have really hurt me. He kept coming at me and I did all I could do, so I ducked my head and the next thing he did was jumped over me and my light stand and hit the bedroom door and almost took out the mirror. My nephew was here and he caught him mid air and we locked him in the cage. We had to call for him to be taken out of my home. It broke my heart in 💔 I cried my eyes out 😭. I loved that dog and now I know hes in Heaven with all my other dogs. Hes no longer suffering. So just make sure but when you are ready to take a dog home, that you ask ?s. I did that the first time I got him and they assured me that he was on good health. I just want to know why or what happened to him when I took him back that first time. He was checked out by my Vet mentally he was in great shape. So please be careful and asked as may ?s as you can.
I adopted a dog from the Humane Society of Greater Dayton area in May 2017! They were very helpful and my dog was happy and healthy while in their care! They do an awesome job of taking care of dogs, cats and other animals while they are in their care. I’m so thankful for my pup!
I am very disappointed in this facility. Our widowed mothers little Dacshund of 17 years had to be put down and we were looking to find a companion for her. We found little Lupe and she would have been a perfect fit. Lupe was on medical hold and was scheduled to be available the next day. We asked if we come back the next day to meet Lupe and he would be a fit, if we could adopt her. We were told no, we could not adopt her from the shelter and we would have to go to some RV Show or something to make the adoption. We explained that while our mother lives here in Dayton, we live out of state and could not make it to the show for the adoption and to please let us adopt from the shelter. The answer was still no. I understand putting the animals out in the public so they will be seen by a larger group of people. But if an animal can be adopted on the spot, I dont understand why that cannot happen. On top of that the girl behind the counter was rude. Giving the impression she is the in charge and dont bother with any discussion. So because of this, Lupe lost the chance at a wonderful life and our mother missed the chance of finding a companion. Shame on you Dayton Humane Society.
If i could give no stars that would be better. Online says nothing about booking an appointment and the staff was rude. If someone was there to adopt a pet you figure they would care and not be rude. Ill never come back. I will not recommend anyone to waste their time.
This shelter is amazing. I am a volunteer here and the animals are precious as can be. This shelter gives every animal a chance with their barn cat program as well as the Bunnt Brigade. The staff is so friendly and caring. The animals are so thankful for every single person there. If you want to adopt an animal please go here, they are no kill.
We adopted our first rabbit here years ago. After he passed away we looked at other rescue groups but ended up coming back to Dayton for our next furry friend. I am glad we did because the entire facility is clean and well cared for, as are the animals . You can tell the staff puts in hard work to help find loving homes for all of their adoptable critters. I would highly recommend swinging by if you are trying to expand your own family with a new furry member.
I have adopted a dog, a cat, and know a rabbit from the humane society of greater dayton. The people here are always pleasant and more than happy to educate and help members of the community. The animals are well cared for and facility is clean. I highly recommend coming here for your next furry companion.
The staff here is A-MAZING. They are so helpful and caring. They helped me multiple times with caring for stray animals in my community. This is a wonderful no kill shelter. Please check their website or call. They arent always able to help but they can sometimes help you work with a rescue group that can.Come check out the dogs and cats available for adoption!!! Or volunteer!
I wanted to see the Dogs and brought the neighbors kids with me and they wanted to see the cats and kittens it was a good experience. I was suprised to see 8 rabbits. Facilities looked good. Idk how adoption works. They were busy with an adoption at the time. I will visit again.
They did a cat round up in our area and forgot to notify people. They took my male neutered cat. Even after calling them they had him for 3 days. He returned a filthy mess and sick. I have 4 house cats that are now all sick, one died. I cant get any call backs. The neighborhood strays are sicker then they were before. They only vaccinate for rabies even though they know this area has problem with feline leukemia and distemper. They are doing more damage then good. The feral cat program is a great program if run properly. They are not doing the cats any favors.
Went to there because we saw a pet in the paper that needed a home this was our first time experience. Everyone was very honest told you everything you need to know and we had a great visit with the pet we saw Im the paper. Very clean facilities. I really learned a lotThe pets their are treated with dignity and respect.
Currently this facility has a program to control feral cats, TNR. You take an hour class to learn information, tips & tricks for safety of using a trap to capture feral cat(s). They will provide a trap & starter kit. Once you capture the 🐈, you take 🐈 to them and they will spade/ neuter for a fee of only $5, as oppose to the $40, or free if you live within a designated area. Then you return the 🐈 to the area you trap them at.
Stephanie gets a bad wrap. She was very good to my family while looking for a dog. She let us keep our new pet for 3 Days no questions asked and I found her to be personable and helpful. Before judging her too harshly you should walk a mile in her shoes. She is constantly fielding the dumbest questions and people trying to dump off their dying, sick or unwanted dogs. I can only imagine this colors her first interaction with guests, but give her a chance. She has the ability to be very nice and I truly believe she had the best interest of the animals at heart. Thanks again humane society
We have always supported the Humane Society off Greater Dayton. They have such a great trap/neuter/release program and low cost neutering for those who cannot afford a more expensive option. On Friday we were just going to look at the kittens. My husband was adamant we were not getting a second cat. Our granddaughter was with us and she and Neil fell in love with a cute little striped kitten with an orange spot on her head. Even though I wanted a black and white cat, this was an opportunity I couldnt pass up! We adopted Rosemary (Rosie) and she has proved to be the best kitten we could have asked for. She falls asleep in our arms, teases our older cat into playing, and doesnt know a stranger. Thanks for the time the representative spent completing our paperwork and we were out the door with Rosie.
I feel as if the employee profiled me on my appearance. We went to an event and the guy says as we were signing in “ I just want you to know we don’t pit families against families or base decisions on appearance. We make decisions on first come basis and you have a family in front of you.” As if he already made the decision before even looking at our application. Either this guy chose his words poorly or he didn’t feel I looked up to his standards. It definitely turned me off from adopting from the humane society if they base their decisions solely on how someone looks. We must not have looked conventional enough.I do want to add that everyone else I have dealt with at the kennel was very courteous and professional. The girls at the front desk of the actual kennel were beyond nice and helpful. This incident took place at an event off site from the kennel.
We got Dwayne, our cat, here. They said he needed a little tlc, as he was pretty feral when he was brought in as a stray. We knew he was a big love bug on the inside so we adopted him. The first week he hid under our bed and would only come out if I sang to him. It took him two weeks to come down the stairs. Now, 6 months later he is our best friend. He follows us from room to room and loves to be held and cuddled. If we arent giving him enough attention he softly meows and stares at us until we pet him. He has never hissed, scratched or bitten us. He is a very gently soul. He has a forever home with us and is a part of the family. We are so happy we adopted him!
We have adopted four precious rabbits from this shelter. The staff is amazing to work with-we love Debbi and the Bunny Brigade! All of the bunnies are well cared for, and I love that the staff is mindful of placing bunnies in homes that will be a good fit for them. They even helped us with a bunny date when we were looking for a bunny to bond with another rabbit. This shelter has a great rabbit program and I would highly recommend adopting from them!
You would think a humane society would be more compassionate, but they arent. Their poorly executed applications are black and white, but people arent. There is no room to explain anything on the apps, and they dont take any time at all to talk to people. They judged us and told us we were not fit candidates to adopt a cat because we had a cat in the past that we did not get vaccinated. They said they didnt think we would get a new cat adequate vet care. They wouldnt take into consideration that a VETERINARIAN told me it was not necessary to vaccinate an indoor cat. They did not take into consideration that we were devoted to taking care of future cats more dilidgently. They did not take into consideration that the dog that we have is taken to our new vet regularly. They did not take into consideration the hundreds of dollars we spent a week prior to try to save a kitten that someone else didnt want. They were cold, rude, pretentious, and horribly judgmental. How dare you presume to think that we would not take care of any animal. You didnt even take the time to find out who we are. So many animals without homes die because of your incompetence, lack of organization, and complete inability to enact a realistic screening process. And to make people wait for days, on pins and needles, just to break their hearts so coldly and cruelly. Nothing humane at all about this society.
WOW, this place needs more help. I came to drop off a cat I adopted that didnt work out for my home and my resident cat....one person ahead of me. Waited 38 minutes til they got to me and took 50 more minutes to complete intake paperwork to turn cat in. Lotta questions, and I gave detailed answers so the next person adopting could be wary of the quirky problems this cat has. One hour and 28 minutes total time with waiting, filling out paperwork and actual turn-in of the animal. Just a bit frustrated!!!! I have bad knees and cant sit for long periods of time like that. When I got up and walked around with the turn-in cat to ease my knee pain, I was abruptly told to sit back down. I guess they thought I was gonna steal a cat OR just dump their cat, that I was turning in to them, in the back room and/or exchange it for another one myself and then leave the premises. They might wanna try trusting people more....not everyone is dishonest. Also, the cat I adopted and returned was named Malibu. She was a great cat, loved people, but was very aggressive towards my resident cat even after 26 days and after I carefully followed advice from a thick book in its chapter on cat introductions. NOW HERES THE THING: Upon checking the plakard from the cage (I saved it) from the Huber Heights PetSmart, nothing was mentioned about Malibu being aggressive towards other animals. A friend told me after I turned Malibu in that on the Humane Societys website, it stated Malibu didnt like other animals so much. I never saw this as I didnt look at Malibus profile on the website, but only at the information on the plakard on her cage at PetSmart. I did some further investigation, and it seems PetSmart employees at the Huber Heights store print the plakards on cats cages from information procured from the Humane Society. So its very evident that the information stating Malibu didnt get along with other animals was purposely removed by a PetSmart employee in order to make it easier for a sale to happen and for her to be adopted. This is ethically wrong. A piece of information like that is VERY VERY important when considering pet adoption when you have other pets in your household. Its the first thing I look for! Now, although I do NOT blame the Humane Society for this debacle, The Humane Society may want to look into this matter and correct this process with the Huber Heights PetSmart employees and/or manager.NOTE: I WAS GIVEN BAD INFO CONCERNING WHO WRITES OUT THE PETSMART CAGE PLAKARDS FROM A PETSMART EMPLOYEE. THE HUMANE SOCIETY PRINTS THEM OUT, NOT PETSMART EMPLOYEES. SORRY ABOUT THE CONFUSION, BUT IM STILL NOT 100% SURE WHY THE ONLINE PLAKARD DID NOT MATCH THE PETSMART CAGE PLAKARD. BUT, IM HAPPY TO SAY THAT MALIBU IS BACK UP FOR ADOPTION AT THE ENGLEWOOD, OH PETCO.
First of all, its not the Humane Societys job to find transportation for a person to give up a pet. Seriously? Secondly, if you had a pet previously that you cannot take care of as simple as a vaccine, then why would you get another one? The screening is there for a reason and rules are rules. Theres Craigslist for those who whine/complain about the Humane Society; get your pet there. This is a non-profit, no-kill shelter that is run by volunteers; meaning they dont get paid for what they do. They have wonderful staff who loves animals. Also consider that theres a lot of requests for their service which they cant simply accommodate. They want to make sure that the animals have responsible owners due to the fact that its irresponsible owners that put the animal in the Humane Society in the first place.
They were wonderful with my adoption of my dog mop it we changed her name. She looked like a dust mop she really needed to be groom the only negative thing I would say ways there puppies were supposed to be $ $165 but she costed $300 and I was told the reason was because she was so cute and their phone system has a lot to be desired you cannot get ahold of a person it seems like but besides that I would adopt another animal through them they were wonderful and all the staff was great
I am soooooooo in love with my dog that I adopted from them!!! It is seriously the most amazing animal I have ever had and I am so happy I chose to adopt rather than go to some breeder. The staff there was great. The application was a bit long and they had to call my vet and landlord to make sure I was allowed to have a dog and took care of my cat I currently had. At first that took me back, but once they explained how it was for my best interest as well as the animals then it totally made sence. Staff even came out and were all saying goodbye and giving hugs to my dog before we left. It was such an awesome thing to see how loved he was! Thank you all for the amazing work you do. I know it has to be hard. I couldnt imagine how tuff it would be to leave all them puppies and cats there, but I hope others will chose to adopt like me!!
We want to thank Debbi B. and HSGD team for helping us adopt Belle (known as Baby Belle now)! You all are the most lovely people there! Your facility is beautiful. We especially appreciate the extra time you spent with us during a very busy Free clip Days. We are enjoying Belle so much!
BEYOND HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I will NEVER be coming back to this location or supporting the humane society in the future. I will stick with SICSA where Ive been treated well. I came into this location two days ago and was looking for a kitten, they didnt have many younger cats as most were older, I have a son who is 5 with apraxia of speech so were looking for a kitten he can grow up with not an older cat who might be close to passing which would devastate my son. We found a male cat who wasnt ready at the time we saw him, his name was Feather. So I asked when he would be ready and was told he still needed to be neutered and would maybe be ready Friday. I called Thursday and that was the day he was having the surgery and it was confirmed he would be ready Friday, Friday comes and Im waiting for them to open since they dont open until 1pm, I call to make sure I dont drive a half hour down there and hes already gone, I get there and upon two seconds of me walking in the door and filling out a waiver so I could go back and see him and woman who was there looking at other cats decides she wants to see feather. The receptionist stephanie let her back to see him even though I had explained my story and was in the process of filling out the paper. Stephanie was RUDE, and very uncaring and unkind rolling her eyes at me when I said feather was the only cat we were interested in. She tried to explain there were other cats but I ALREADY KNEW there were other cats as I had just been there on Wednesday. Feather was the age i was looking for, and I was looking for a short haired which he was. I asked to speak to the manager who was on the phone the whole time then never did come to talk to me. A bunch of employees went to the back and shut the door, and me and my son were left clueless. My mother felt bad for me and called the facility too and was hung up on by Stephanie. The cat was adopted and I do hope feather is going to a good home. Im very upset at how his was handled and how I was treated. I wont be donating and supporting this facility with the way I was treated though. I am someone whose grown up around animals, I had a golden retriever growing up when I was 5 and he passed when I was a senior in High School, I had cats growing up as well, I am an avid animal lover and today my heart was broken.
We had a pretty awful experience today at the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. The front desk lady, I believe her name is Stephanie, was being incredibly rude and short tempered to everyone, even her coworkers, but especially my husband and I and Im not exactly sure why. We were just standing around waiting for around 35 minutes to visit with a dog wed seen in the back, to then be told the dog was already under application with another family. We left and went on our way.. So I thought that was it, and then I just received a call from her now asking about my previous vet records and asking about my dog not being up date on shots, which she is, but not sure why any of that matters if we werent adopting a dog there. I told her I wasnt going to finish the application since the dog we were interested in was taken and we werent happy with our experience at the shelter today and she said she would be sure to put it on my record that I wasnt interested in adopting anymore... thats not exactly what I said, but ok. If we ever do decide to adopt a dog it surely will not be from here.
I felt scrutinized by the lady working the desk. I understand you have to ask questions about home and vets and other pets. She would ask a question and I would answer she would roll her eyes and act like I was lying. She was talking down to me and treated me like an idiot. I almost left in tears, without the cat I wanted. I just can not believe how rude she was and how terrible she made me feel. I just walked out. It is just said that they have such a rude person to ruin a pet adoption.
We adopted a kitten in June. They told us he was perfectly healthy and had no issues. When we get home we find out that he had been suffering from a respiratory infection his whole life. Not only did they lie they didn’t give him the proper care while he was there. I am sad to say, our kitten Hugo died at the age of only four months. In the future you will no longer have a kind family to call customers. DONT ADOPT HERE. If you decide to adopt get the proper information about the animal. And for the humane society. DONT LIE!!!!!!!
We were looking to grow our fur family by another kitten. Having searched for a while we came across the Pet Supplies Plus Store in Kettering having an adoptions display of kittens by the Greater Dayton Humane Society. Of a litter of 6, two were left, Benedict (a grey domestic short hair) and his brother Arnold (red domestic short hair). We fell in love with both but having an alpha cat at home already decided to adopt Arnold, the more timid one of the two. This was last Saturday and besides the fact that no store employee seemed eager to help with the adoption or the paper work we felt a little weird. We were also told that the animal would not be released until the application has been reviewed. Having adopted animals from SICSA before the process just seemed odd. We filled out the application and were informed that the application had to be faxed to the Humane Societys office and were assured that we should hear from them by the middle of the week as they are closed Sundays and Mondays. We hadnt heard from the Humane Society or from the store so I decided to give the Humane Society a call. After being routed in loops in their illogical call attendance system I opted for the receptionist only to be sent to voicemail. I tried two more times and left a voicemail. In the meantime my husband stopped at Pet Supplies Plus only to find out that the kittens had been adopted two days ago. I tried again to contact the Humane Society learning the news, this time I got a hold of the receptionist. I tried to explain what happened and that I would like an explanation. The girl was rude and her lack of empathy was off-putting. She informed me that the woman in charge of outside adoptions leaves at 5 but she could take a message. I again explained to her what happened and that I would like an explanation on what went wrong in the process or why it was decided that we cant have the cat. I dont expect a call back, it is not like we got a phone call to explain to us why we didnt get the cat or if our application has been denied. It is sad that a place that relies on a good reputation and on donations and public funding seems to have such little care or desire to stay on the ball with families trying to give an animal a home. Dont go there, do not donate to their cause. To bad that I cant complain to the BBB.
Primary location for Humane Society here in the greater Dayton, Ohio area. Hours for visiting your next feline or canine Forever Friend are usually 1-6pm; but check website prior to going to visit. The outer lobby gives pet owners a free area to post info per Lost Pet. A very good website which shows current donation needs, various fund raising events and extra special events like annual raffle for Subaru Impreza (held early December). Check out website & apply to obtain your next Furry Family member here.
The Humane society of greater dayton is an amazing agency. The staff and volunteers work hard daily, to ensure the welfare of every animal that enters into their care. Working with animals who need love and care, and preparing them for their new homes. My family has always had good experiences adopting from the facility, and is the first place we go to when we have room for another furry family member.
Stephanie at this location is down right horrible. This isnt the first review that I noticed with her name in it, so my guess is that they probably wont even do anything.Stephanie gave an attitude, talked down to me with heavy sarcasm, and treated me like I was stupid and that she knew my whole life story. Its a shame that I truly wanted to adopt a dog that day, but her negativity drew me away, and I didnt even view any of the animals. I have spread the word to multiple individuals about her, and they have agreed, or if they dont know her, they mentioned how theyre less likely to return to this shelter to avoid her.If I was management, and I saw that multiple reviews about her have been posted, I would do something about that situation. She looked as if she was an adult, but her attitude made her appear as if she was 13. Another item that I have noticed is that the shelter only responds to positive reviews on here, and seems to ignore the negative.
I am so grateful to have the opportunity to adopt our black lab mix, Piper, from the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. Initially, I was a little apprehensive and hoping she would fit in with our other two dogs at home. HSGD answered all of my questions and even provided tips for introducing Piper to the rest of our pack. The adoption process was seamless and it even came with 30 days of pet insurance! HSGD followed up with me after a short time, too, to make sure everyone was doing well. Thank you for the opportunity to connect with our newest furry family member and for taking such good care of her.
I had several cats taken there,They came back with upper respiratory problems,Infested with fleas. All of them died, Sent our ten year old blue point there,When he returned,He let me put him in the tub,Run warm water over him and wash him,To week to even fight,He laid there in the water,Water was so red it looked like he was cut ,But he was so infected with fleas,They were making him bleed that much,He died that night. You tell me,Would you send any animal there?
Cannot believe the rude conversation I was subjected to on the telephone by a Humane Society representative last night! If I dont meet the standards set forth by your organization to be considered for an adoption that is fine but to treat someone so rudely is unacceptable! I will NOT be supporting this organization financially or in any other way in the future and I am urging all of my family and friends to do likewise.
Absolutely the worst experience i have ever had when adopting a pet, i was trying to give a dog a forever home and the lady on the phone hung up on me. Did you know they are a franchise? The only thing in common with the actual humane society is the name, dont believe me call the national number, I did to complain and found out they are no different than going to a pet store, except they get the animals from drop offs and hoarders. The dog I was going to make a part of my family had multiple applications and no one would come get him. At this point they are no better that the people they take them from. if they wont rehome them, why bother? keeping them in a cage is just as inhumane. Left messages with all members of management and received 0 calls back. Unprofessional to say the least. I made the choice to adopt from a shelter rather than going to a pet store or Craigslist and was treated very poorly. I feel sorry for the dog i wasnt up to the standard to adopt. Btw i was a combat vet who was a K9 handler just so you know, because you hung up on me before asking any questions!
I just had a very unpleasant experience at the Humane Society of Greater Dayton on Nicholas road. While most of the staff was very friendly and helpful, Stephanie at the front desk was extremely rude. Her unprofessional behavior and hateful attitude was shocking and unnessary. Unfortunately, Stephanies behavior has been brought up in several previous reviews and I cant help but to wonder why she is still employed there.
Our family adopted a rabbit from HSGD about 2 weeks ago. The pre-adoption process was great and we were really feeling good about adopting from here. Unfortunately, once we got to the actual adoption meeting with the meet and greet, we were not impressed. I asked the adoption coordinator and the foster mom several times, when was the last time the bunny saw the vet? and when was her last annual exam?. The foster mom had no idea and the adoption coordinator just kept telling me that I needed to take her to a vet....well duh! Sadly the humane society had no idea when the last time a 3 year old bunny that they have had since birth was seen by a vet! She also had no idea when her teeth were last checked (she just kept saying they didnt need it). That was just sad! She also proceeded to tell me that I needed to make sure she has kitty flea and tick medicine (and when she mentioned it to the foster mom....she replied that she has never done that and didnt know about it). Seriously.... how can the humane society not require their animals under the care of foster parents to follow all medical needs? I do not blame the foster mom at all and I think she was great and probably simply had a rabbit dumped on her with no help or guidance from the humane society. I have had rabbits before (which they knew, but the adoption coordinator continued to talk to me and my husband like we were idiots and first time bunny owners). The saddest thing of all is the fact that after two weeks, no person from the the HSGD has contacted us to check on the rabbit. If they truly cared, they would be calling new owners to check in. I guess they must not care that much.....so disappointing. I could have had the same treatment of lack of concern for the animal and not able to produce medical records from a bunny off of Craigslist. Next time I adopt, I will go to another shelter.
We went there in order to grow our family and adopt a dog. We found one, fell in love with him and then we were declined he adoption simply because I was a full time student. Never have I ever been discriminated against for furthering my education except for in this situation. I have a clean place to live, a job, and I take care of a child. I was appalled by these people.
I went to the Humane Society to adopt a female dog named Nova we filled out an adoption form to recive her and they told us to get her at Petco the next day. we arrived early to get the dog after its vet check up but we were told that she was removed from the list to go to petco and that she was not available for adoption anymore
I love it this is best people, they help safe puppy that we give away for adoption true person i was work with to some one we never meet , my wife an me we both feel that person who got are puppy since beginning is not good an abuse are puppy, after i call , very same night we got respond back, bad an good news that puppy was abuse an we get him back so very next day puppy back home with are other dogs , now we keeping him, i want to say thank you very much staff an lady officer God Bless her an all her family ,(iforgot her name),she is the best help , we love it! if any think we could do for them to help!sincerely Vlad & Erica. This is miracle not with out are Jesus !,we got him back.
I simply dont understand how this huge building has only five dogs for adoption. The animal shelter in Cincinnati has nearly 200 dogs. How can you validate yourself as a no kill shelter with so many empty kennels, and so many dogs languishing and being euthanized at local animal shelters?? Things that make me wanna go, Huh?
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, NOT ONLY AM I NOT GOING TO DONATE MORE MONEY, I AM GOING TO CANCEL WHAT I AM SENDING TO YOU NOW, I AM TIRED OF GETTING ADDRESS LABELS , SOCKS AND CARDS 2 DIMES AND A CHECK FOR 2.50. QUIT WASTING YOUR MONEY ON THESE ITEMS AND USE IT FOR THE ANIMALS .I WILL NOT CASH THE CHECK FOR $2.50.. I AM RIPING IT UP AND THROWING IT AWAY! PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME ANYMORE MAIL. SINCERLY , CHRISTINE COOK
So... I reach out to these people because a beautiful all white well groomed poodle showed up at my house last night 2/15/2018 and the unprofessional personnel “Elizabeth” was very unconcerned that I didn’t have a way to get the dog to the shelter because of my disability, she said you can’t get a ride here, I informed her again NO, and she said said well I don’t know what you need to do, so I ask for management! Guess what?! No one called back! I called them back and said should I put the dog back outside in this 30 degree weather to see if he can find his way home, she said if you can’t bring him then yea, ( I’m confused)! Wow, just terrible!! If your mom was missing Elizabeth would you want someone to help her, or just let her wonder and let her find her way back and possibly get hit? The people that fake to care!! So now today is 2/17/18 and guess what? Still NO CALL, sorry asf!

2022-04-07The TNR program is amazing. Breeding should be made illegal until the pet population is under control but since that will likely never happen, they do what they can to at least lessen the feral cat population. I adopted my black lab mix from them years ago and just recently lost her. She was an amazing companion. I will more than likely adopt my next dog from from them as well. I highly recommend the Humane Society! Thanks for everything all of you do ❤️

2021-06-15Dont believe the Google maps. This place is not open to the public. Theres at least 30 employee vehicles in the lot. But one must pick a pet online to set up an appointment to see the animal. Thats not how anyone should pick a companion. Dont go here. These people are doing some serious mooching of the tax payers dime.

2022-03-11I really appreciate the Humane Societys Trap-Neuter-Return program to help control the population of community (or feral) cats. Over the past year, far too many cats have been abandoned in our neighborhood as the economy has tanked and people got evicted. The Humane Societys TNR program has helped me cut down on the unwanted feral litters and the disruption caused by tomcats fighting over females in heat (which are no treat to be around either, if youve ever heard one caterwauling at 3 am). At this time (spring, 2022), cats trapped within the City of Dayton can be fixed for free thanks to a grant program. The Humane Society even runs a free training program to teach you how to use humane traps. The volunteer vets and intake staff do a great job.

2021-03-15This rating is a year late. I saw a photo of a little white dog, and knew I had to have him. So, I went to Dayton Humane Society and got him! He has been with me a year. Fantastic people at the shelter. Answered all my questions. Were genuinely happy the dogs and cats were finding homes.

2017-07-08Had three of my four bunnies spayed and neutered here. Planning on getting the fourth spayed here as well. All times, had 5 star experiences. Also, took my visiting relatives here to see the animals up for adoption. Impressed with the facilities, staff, and variety. They have handsome purebred show breeds to adorabls little mutts. Innovative cat ventilation systems, and even a rabbitorium! You can tell the staff really love their jobs and care for the animals. :) The best thing is that theyre a kill-free shelter! Highly recommend visiting, but be prepared to walk out with a new fluffy friend.

2022-01-08The staff are very helpful and polite from the time you call to entering the facility. You and the animal you brought in are made to feel comfortable as best as possible! Come visit this place because the animals here that are up for adoption are well taken care of medically and emotionally.

2022-04-14Adopted many fur babies from HS over the years. 1 baby just passed recently and the HS is very helpful on trying to ease the loss. You cant go wrong with adopting your next friend from HSGD.
