Hot Chicken Takeover in other cities:
Ive been going to Hot Chicken Takeover since it was just a little pop up restaurant. Over the years Ive dragged many people to their locations to show them the food Im always raving about. The food is amazing. Literally have never had a bad experience and always chicken that makes me wanna come back. Mas Mac is to die for, the sweet tea makes my heart sing, and the chicken is perfection. The Clintonville location has been my favorite one for a while since its the least far from me. Everyone who works there is always so nice no matter how busy they are. The music they play in there is always good and not too loud to where its overwhelming. If you see some weird person dancing waiting for their food inside, its probably me, dancing cause I know Im about to have a delicious meal.
5 stars!! Best fried chicken in the world! Visiting from Texas and was skeptical of not receiving authentic southern fried chicken. This place blew me away! I had the fried chicken cool recipe with the macn cheese and sweet baked beans with unlimited sweet tea. Down in the south, we are very picky about our flavors. Everything was so yummy. Totally reminded me of home. HCT had me like How do they do this? How is do they get it so crispy and yet so tender? The staff was wonderful too!
Less food for more money. The chicken was very good as always, but it now costs a few bucks more than it used to. On top of that the sweet tea and ranch are no longer free and unlimited (except one small ranch container), and the drums now come with 1 piece of bread instead of 2. Everything still tasted good but it now costs a decent amount more for less food.
This may be my favorite restaurant of all time. First off, it’s very clean which is very important to me when picking a restaurant. This may be due to the manager Christina working hard to make this hot chicken takeover restaurant the best! Besides the cleanliness, the food is an easy 10/10 and I am very hard to please! Will be back as long as my wallet allows me to do so!
Definitely over priced for what you get. Almost $8 for 2 drum sticks is a little crazy when they weren’t even that good. Serve was good and fast and the waffles are absolutely amazing but probably won’t ever get the food again. Spent $35 on food for 2 people and we didn’t even get drinks this just seems like a lot for not amazing food, not a lot of food, and considered take out.
The absolute best chicken sandwich I have ever had. Their employees are kind but definitely over worked since its always so busy but it never effects the delicious food. I never thought Id prefer any other chicken take out over chik fil a but Hot Chicken has them beat.
The few times that Ive went to this Hot Chicken Takeover, the food was always great and left me wanting more, however, dont expect great customer service from this location. If you make a mistake on an online order and attempt to correct it, you will not be able to get a hold of any employee by phone and will be left with a poor selection of music played through your phone while you wait on hold for half an hour. Never attempt to make an online order, just not worth the trouble.
We went there on Saturday night and ordered takeout at 6:50pm, we didn’t get our food until 7:30pm… we only ordered 2 4-drums so we didn’t think it would take that long. We’ve been to this location a couple times and it has been great until this most recent experience. It also seemed like the staff would getting the orders ready for you before others if you go to the counter and say something to them. I had to see a lot of delivery drivers come in and leave without the food because of the long wait. Hopefully they would do something to fix this. I would say prob don’t go there on a Saturday night!
I was pleasantly surprised by the heat of their “holy” sauce, when they said it’s hot they truly meant it. The chicken was AMAZING and their baked beans left me scraping the bowl afterwards. The staff were super friendly in this location, I hadn’t been here and they gave me some good input for what sauce I should get. I had a small issue with my order but the manager stepped up and immediately did what he could to correct the mistake made.Wonderful crew working here and I look forward to coming back to eat here again! Thanks guys!
Found a gnat in my mac n cheese at some point last year, finally decided to give it another chance only to find they no longer serve bone in breast... Im very particular about meat. Meat cooked on its bone tastes very different and much better and is overall less weird and processed. Love their slaw though, even my toddler eats it.
The guy at the pickup window made me feel incredibly uncomfortable. I don’t know if he has never seen a Muslim person or just doesn’t like us. He kept staring at me and his hand started shaking when he got my drink. You can tell he was visibly shaken. My drink was too foamy so now I am concerned he might have spit in my drink cause he was away from my line of vision for a while. The chicken was decent, similar to raising canes and the waffles were very soggy. I will definitely not be returning to this establishment.
Takeout for the win. From any location not just this one that Ive used. Delivery prices have gone up A LOT (seriously you will pay $10 more on product alone, easily 2x total after any fees etc). If you have used any delivery platform, seriously consider switching to ordering online directly on the hct website and picking up yourself. Drive worth it. And the staff dont care youre in pjs at 5pm.Food always good. Requests always honored (reasonable ones). HCT for the win!
This was the first time we patronized this establishment, when we would drive by pre-pandemic the place always was packed and we wanted to see why it was so patronized. We bought the whole chicken which cost us $29 and then we ordered two servings of mac and cheese and two servings of banana pudding in total we paid $52. Now we ordered the mild and the not to hot chicken which was okay nothing to brag about. The mac and cheese was sort of pasty and gummy and I dont know what the banana pudding is made with but the crumbles on top taste like butter, crumbles of cookies and sugar in all I would say this establishment gets a three because the food is not worth me standing in line, so use your own judgment from this not putting the establishment down but not bragging about it either.
Hot Chicken Takeover has definitely taken over as my favorite of chicken places! The atmosphere, hospitality, and food were absolutely wonderful. Ordering is quick and simple, and the menu, though small, is huge with flavor. I ordered the boneless chicken expecting something closer to nuggets and was beyond surprised when I revealed a massive juicy, tender, slab of seasoned chicken. The warm level of seasoning was exactly as advertised, and the sides complimented the chicken perfectly. I will definitely be back to try the other variants of chicken they offer, and who else can beat free sides of ranch dressing and sweet/unsweetened tea?
Ive ordered from HCT probably 30+ times. Im a spice nut and I absolutely LOVE their food. Nothing else in Columbus comes close to the spice level of the Extra Holy while still tasting this amazing. But, on my last order, I sadly only recieved the chicken and no other items. So, I called in an left a message. Ive worked in food service and Im no Karen - I didnt complain per say - I just wanted to let em know anyway. The *General Manager* called me back within 10 minutes and refunded my order, and then sent me a new order with all the fixings! This is a top-tier establishment with top-tier management - they turned what would have been a negative experience into a positive one, and I look forward to ordering Hot Chicken from them many times on the future!
The food is alright, I don’t believe the prices match. Sides are all almost $3 a piece so your meal adds up… the fries were so salty and the slaw was just vinegar, combine that with the pickles there’s no balance. It doesn’t stand out over any other ordinary chicken place.
Great service and tasty food, but not healthy... Chicken was very fried...duh, we should have known. Not what we were in the mood for, but theres a time for everything and Hot Chicken Takeover will be in my memory banks for my future indulgence. Btw... Nice that they have gluten free chicken and bread on Tuesdays.
I have always been the biggest fact of hct, till the visit with my family last week. Sent my partner in to place a order and didnt know about the kiosk the employee was very rude and had attitude from jump even watched her shove a order to a person in the drive thru window and roll her eyes. Got our food and which was good only reason for the 2 stars was the food, because of the employee interaction and the increase in cost of what use to be 35 bucks for 3 people is now 50, we wont be coming back to any hct locations soon.
First time visiting. Only chicken sauce avail for nuggs or tenders is ranch. Tenders too dry to be sauceless. They put my sides with my tenders, but I needed SEPERATE for family, they didnt ask and since they were charged as sides (not a meal or combo) I didnt state. Tenders are not on board menu but on kiosk. WAAAYY to small for the $10.85 price. 3 tiny dry tenders and a piece of white bread for that. Also servers were nice, there was no one in front of me so I, and a few followers, had no clue to use kiosk...no signage for newbies. Too expensive for what you get, I wont be back.
HCT overall has slowly been going downhill. Went from good to mediocre at best. They now charge for their sweet / unsweet tea and reduced the white bread given from 2 slices to 1; which seems like the oddest cost reduction efforts by a company….Guess that’s what happens when you start taking a bunch of VC money? On to the chicken - the last few times, it’s has always been cold when served along with the sides being average to below average.
I tried this while in Columbus for a family event last Saturday, and even though we had a group of 9 AND they were dealing with system issues that made them unable to accept card payments, I still had one of the best times with some of the best chicken Ive ever tasted.
Absolutely in love with the Hoy chicken takeover! We heard from lot of people about this place and thought we should give a try!Damm! Chicken was just mind blowing. It was perfectly cooked, well seasoned, tender, juicy! Just perfect!I will definitely spread the word and would definitely do the Take over soon 😍
Love their food, but im not ordering again from there. First because my order gets lost and i have to wait so long for it everytime. I normally have no problem with waiting, but when im told to wait nicely. The staff there is just so rude and the way they talk and interact is so annoying. im talking night shift to be specificHope things change there at least so they dont lose more customers.
The chicken breast meals are fantastic, with the option for breading with three different spice levels. The breasts are butterflied and have been moist and tender everytime Ive visited. The staff is super friendly and courteous. Ive not eaten in the restaurant because the lobby is usually pretty full. The interior design is a little like Chipotle with brick and and exposed HVAC, do the acoustics are challenging for any conversation. Not a problem, because you wont be talking after your first bite. I am not a huge banana fan, but have made an exception for the banana pudding. Approach me while Im eating it, an Ill growl at you like a dog guarding a soup bone.
Oh my goodness. I enjoy this good so so much. Hot chicken takeover has such amazing hot chicken. It has taken me years to get here. Never understood why all the buzz was about until now. I love the chicken and the iced teas (that are free btws). Great service and great restaurant concept.
Absolutely yummy chicken! I have tried probably the first hot chicken in nashville at Hattie Bies. And i can surely say this is quiet close to it. If you have not tried what i have tried, you will still love the food here. Also value for money, definitely give a try to their Holy hotness level chicken, its not that hot and you will enjoy it.
The lady who took my order was great and super friendly. What made the experience a tad sour was a person with green hair came out from behind the counter to belittle and older man for not wearing his mask on his way to leave the facility. It’s one thing to ask and potentially remove but to see the person get so worked up over it was not a fun experience.2/5As for the food. It was very good and SPICY. Coming from Nashville I’ve had plenty of hot chicken sandwiches and it was good. Not the best by any means but good. Chicken was crispy. The slaw really shined. Beans were good but nothing spectacular4/5Overall score 3 stars. Would probably not come back but i would recommend if someone asked.
Love love love. On weekends they have waffles in addition to their regular sides of macaroni and coleslaw. To be fair though, the waffles are basically triangular funnel cakes. Amazing, but very dense and ridiculously filling. If you want ketchup youll need to bring your own because they dont have any, but their buttermilk ranch is really great. Drinks are free, and the tea is not bad. Some of the best fried chicken Ive ever had! The parking lot can get full and it is tricky to get in and out of so Id advise parking on the street.
This place is awesome. We both got the drumsticks, medium with no slaw and extra mac and cheese. I had the sweet tea and she had the unsweetened. We sat down and our food was up in no time. It was delicious, I didnt know Columbus could do southern food so well. We had the banana pudding for dessert and that was the perfect ending. This will be one of our regular spots.
Really good chicken! Chicken breading reminds me of Red Barn when I was a child, but way better. Very moist Chicken breast and very large at that. The sauce is not as runny as you would encounter in Nashville, a good thing in my opinion.I have had Princes Chicken and Pepperfire Chicken in Nashville, this is better than Pepperfire by a long shot and close to but not quite as good as Princes (hard to out do the original).Coleslaw is good, definitely healthy take as it does not have the Mayo as most recipes do. Mac and cheese is awesome! The free tea is a nice plus, the sweet tea is very sweat however , colleague mixed half and half with the unsweetened tea, which may be right mix for adults. The heat levels are misleading. Hot is hot to me, but hot in Nashville is insanely hot, I would order medium in Nashville where here I would order hot. I would say that if you like hot wings from Roosters then the hot is just about the same or slightly hotter, it will be the right heat level for you.I will be back often for sure!
While I enjoyed the chicken sandwich very much, I am here to rave about Miss Bs banana pudding. The banana pudding is like experiencing sweet, creamy heaven. The sugar mixture on top of the wafers mixes perfectly with the stiff cream and the smooth, delicious pudding. Get your chicken but dont leave without the pudding. All hail Miss B and her heavenly pudding.
IGNORANCE- I asked for drum they gave me breast, instead of acknowledging and correcting they made me show my plate as proof and after inspecting they threw the plate away I hope because they took the plate to the kitchen. While my party of 12 ate and was almost finished my order finally came out. Heres a tip dont be petty or better yet dont be disgusting and reserve food that was already touched - GROSS!3 stars and not 1 only bc (owner response moved my rating from 2 to a 3)the chicken is really good even though they have questionable practices with incorrect orders that seem like they reserve food. Oh FYI my entire party of 12 thought your mac and cheese tastes bland and disgusting. Will possibly never eat here again.
I just couldn’t believe the service. This was my first time visiting and I just loved the vibes I got there, super cozy. Not to mention the chicken so crispy, you can tell the staff a really family over at the High St location. Katie, Tana and Alyssa made my food with love!
Extremely friendly staff, I got the drumsticks warm and they were amazing. Well seasoned and spiced. The banana pudding was very well made, and the beans on side are solid. All well priced as well. Definitely recommend getting a shirt as well, very nice quality. Would recommend to anybody
First time my family and I had their food. Although it wasn’t bad tasting here I am at 3am experiencing food poisoning. I plan on calling to speak with a manager to let them know because they need to be well aware! I’m so disgusted and disappointed.Update: My son called me from school needing to be picked up (around 9:10am) because he also has the same symptoms of food poisoning. His symptoms started last night he just didn’t say anything. So far that’s 2/4 of us with it.I’m counting down the time to call at this point.
I feel like HCT is having a bit of a midlife crisis. Inflation and supply chain issues have driven prices up, which would be cool if the quality was still the same. For some reason, regardless of location, HCT has lost the quality it was known for even a couple years ago. You cant operate at a significantly higher-than-Canes price point and not beat them on quality.I really hope they correct it because the Unholy sandwich was one of the best things Ive ever eaten. RIP.
Yesterday waa my first visit to Hot Chicken Takeover. So many people rave about it. So I thought Id try it. I really wasnt impressed. I got the warm spicy. I liked the heat a lot. The flavor was lacking though. My piece of chicken was all skin with not much meat. Ill give it another try later on. Maybe I just got a bad piece?
This place is a great part of the Columbus food scene. Its not quite up there with Nashvilles hot chicken amazingness, but its still very flavorful, crispy, and packs a good amount of heat. The sides are also excellent, and mesh perfectly with the hot chicken. My only complaint is about what they dont have; I wish there were more sides to choose from besides mac and cheese and coleslaw. Otherwise, Hot Chicken Takeover is a hot commodity that Id highly recommend trying!
In my opinion, this is one of the better fried chicken places around Columbus, reminds me of the chicken I grew up with in TN. Now, seriously consider your spice level because the chicken can get insanely spicy very fast. The mac n cheese is great, and the banana pudding is amazing. Also, they have chicken and waffles! Definitely worth checking out.
Chicken was top notch! I ordered a ‘hot sandwich’ and it did not disappoint. The heat was just what I was looking for, but when I mentioned to Keara that I was going to try to “holy sandwich’ next time she brought me out a sample. And the heat was off the charts! The heat is lingering long after the chicken has vanished and I love it. Also, the house made ranch is very good. The food came out quick, was hot, and the service was fantastic. Highly recommend!
2 stars for the food. Used to love this place until they switched to the new kiosk system. There’s no customer service. Just left here and the front counter workers had their backs turned toward the door talking to the kitchen workers, one girl was crying, I’m asking for help and no one was paying attention. So annoyed.
Firstly, the chicken was fantastic. The rub was great, and the sides were excellent! The ONLY thing I had to say? I arrived before a ton of people and queued in line for my online order 10 minutes after my quoted time online. So, not only did I I arrive 10 minutes after, I waited an additional 35 minutes after arriving to get my order (1 order of wings, a side of Mac).I’ve ran restaurants for a long time and this is what I noticed: though it was obviously very busy the expos weren’t communicating with each other. They were dancing around one another asking the customers the same questions over and over again. It was a little painful to watch. Maybe if there’s a way to change the time estimates? Or get the expos to communicate with one another better when a large number of orders flood in? Idk.Long story short: the food was incredible but I don’t know if I’d wait through nearly 50 minutes of chaos to get it. Thanks for reading!
First time here…and it definitely won’t be our last! As with any restaurant, service is the primary key. HCT passed that test right from our greeting. The food delivers the knockout punch. Wow! I like hot sauce, but I resisted the urge to get “Hot”. Medium was just right, although I might try the hot on subsequent visits. Get the chicken…get the waffle and, by all means, get Miss B’s banana pudding! So friendly. Loved it!
Update: They now charge a dollar their ice tea, both sweet and unsweetened (previously free). Their potions also seem smaller, but Im not positive as its been a while since Ive been here. So Ive update my review, but still stand by its a great place to eat.Updated review: Ive been here for lunch a several times now. The line usually moves quickly, the food is good, and the workers are curtious. The chicken is spicy, but they do have a cold option if youre not into spicy food. The cold is probably just fried chicken, its still hot temperature wise, just not spicy. Please note I have not tried this option. If you like spicy food, youll be happy here. The chicken isnt just hot like hot sauce, but has a really nice flavor that complements the heat of the spices. I like the Holy, but I think it would be too hot for most. This place is definitely worth a try!
Okay, we all know hot chicken take over is delicious! But their service is also ..delicious!..the staff is perfectly professional! The cashier greeted me with a huge smile and I have to say she is a master of the Up-sell. Exactly! The type of person/personality for that job! (4/24/18 1:30pm.)The gentleman who brought my bags of food could see I couldnt carry all of it (and my frosty & free tea) he quickly repacked my order so I could manage it all!Thank you! Keep it up! Im already hungry for more!
I got the white meat, hot sandwich. It was pure joy! Amazing crunchy fried chicken, slaw, pickles between 4 slices of white bread. Make sure you get their homemade ranch dressing to put on the sandwich, amazingly yummy. Definitely coming back. I was here around 2pm, no line, short wait. You can eat there, inside or outside or take it home. You gotta go!!!
The food here is the best. The chicken has different degrees of heat. The hot is delicious with a kick. The macaroni and cheese is by far the best I have ever had in a restaurant. You also get sweet or unsweetened tea free with your meal. Highly recommend Hot Chicken Takeover!
The food is good, but its not NASHVILLE hot chicken, so dont be fooled. Thats probably unfair though. If you want spicy, get the hottest. I got the hot and it was actually pretty mild, which I suppose is better than people ordering hot and then not being able to eat it. Sides were good and the service was great 👍🏼
Ill keep it simple. No flavor on the chicken, its just hot but no salt nor pepper. Its cooked well. They offer no side options. They have Mac N Cheese and coleslaw, thats it and you get Schwebels Gross White Bread. Had a whole rack of it. I didnt enjoy the coleslaw. It was too far on the acidic side for me. Mac N Cheese was good. They used some good cheese and you could taste it. All in all, a meal is $10.50 and you get two sides, the only sides and they only sell bottles soda of 5 flavors I saw. They sit right by the door as soon as you walk in, in the direct sunlight in an open cooler so your drink temp could be half n half (hot and cold) lol! You get FrEe water, sweet tea or unsweet tea but who is the fool here, its priced into their meals. I guess they want to promote unity because the sitting inside is a bunch of long tables so you will end up sitting next to people or you can sit outside which has more 4 seaters. Youre better off somewhere else. All the hype and this place was a major letdown and I wasted $21 on two meals.
I feel bad giving it a 4 star review, because really truly, based on company values (i saw joe speak at alleviating poverty through entrepreneurship a few years ago) mostly living up to all the hype, and more it deserves 5. free iced tea and it’s the only ranch dressing I’ll ever consume (i know that’s a sin in our state, but I just don’t get ranch) which means something. Mac and cheese is addicting, coleslaw is alright if you prefer bitter slaw over sweet slaw (which i don’t and I know that’s personal preference). However, 3 out of the last 5 times I’ve come in, my digestive system has been unhappy with me. I don’t know what it is, but it typically makes me sick. Which breaks my heart because it’s delicious. I like spicy and the Hot is a decent level of spice without also lacking flavor. Dark meat is usually the superior chicken meat and I suggest you order that here. Divine.
You know people like talking about how great the food is (it really is good), but lets talk about the staff. There was a rather tall gentleman at the register yesterday who right away greeted me and started a conversation about my Marvel Shirt. Felt right at home. 10/10 would recommend the staff here
Wow - this place is worth checking out. If youre hungry dont get anything but a sandwich or if your super-hungry try and knock out a whole bird!! I mistakenly ordered the drums - 4 puny drums - and was only satisfied after stealing half of my wifes sandwich. Mild has a great spice and hot will have you remembering your meal long after your last bite. The chicken was great, the flavor was great - you simply must try the banana pudding - it has a great, rich flavor with a surprising crunch. Overall value and service shortfalls make what could have been a 5 star land as a 4 for me. Give it a try though, maybe they are still working out the quirks.
This was my first time eating at Hot Chicken takeover and I would go back. The menu is simple with just a few choices which makes it a little easier. All meals come with bread, pickles, and sweet or unsweet tea. They have bottled drinks available for an additional fee as well as three sides choices: mac and cheese, baked beans, and coleslaw, and I think they had one dessert also. I was so excited that they had vegan nuggets with vegan ranch dressing. The nuggets and Ranch were amazing! I think they could fool a carnivore LOL I always appreciate homemade food and their Ranch is made in-house. My dining companion got the sandwich which was absolutely massive and reportedly delicious. I had a side of slaw, which is not usually one of my favorite things, but theirs has a light Tangy, vinegar-based dressing instead of a mayonnaise-based dressing and it was so tasty and refreshing. The staff were super friendly. I dont love that they use disposable cups, plates, and plastic ware but that is not uncommon with fast food places.
This was my first time visiting Hot Chicken and was so pleased with the friendly atmosphere and delicious food. Our server, Keara, was so warm and welcoming and clearly took pride in the restaurant, taking the time to share the history of the brand and tell us about the menu options. Wishing this restaurant was present in the Pacific Northwest, too!
Great place to grab lunch or dinner. Huge portions and great flavor on the chicken. Not a ton of variety to the menu but what they do have is all good. Their ranch is great but unlike Caines the chicken is a good standalone without the sauce. You also get free sweet tea and the sauce is free too. Not only is their food good but the company tries to reincorporate people who have just gotten out of prison. Great food with a great cause. Highly recommend.
Used to be one of my favorite places to eat. Now, its just not worth the drive. Since re-opening after the start of the pandemic, it has not been the same. The spice level is way higher than before and the sides are not as tasty. Ive tried to give it just one more chance several times, but Im going to have to call it quits. The customer service is still excellent, the food is still tasty, just not what it was.Had to update my review. Went for lunch today, and it was delicious! This is the Hot Chicken Takeover that I know and love!
Hot Chicken Takeover is a Community focused restaurant group that makes a point of offering steady employment and support to previously incarcerated people. The food is impeccable. HTC now carries vegan nuggets that they flavor with their seasoning and they absolutely slap. I highly recommend it! I got them today and they are fabulous.
The food is delicious and very well made every time. This is offset unfortunately by the extremely slow service speed at this location. Their consistently slow service is honestly remarkable. After four trips to this location, I have never once been served food in under 30 minutes. The staff is extremely nice and helpful, but their crux is that it simply takes too long to receive your food.
THE BEST HOT CHICKEN YOU WILL EVER EAT. If you haven’t had hot chicken takeover, you’ve never had real hot chicken. Their ranch and sweet tea are also amazing. Their sides are really not up to par, disappointed in their Mac & Cheese, I would say this is the only thing they need to change and make better. Highly recommend this place and their service is always great
My family and I have been customers since HCT’s days in Old Town East and we’ve been fans since then, so it pains me to leave this review. The chicken has always been great until our most recent experience 2 weeks ago. It was super dry; dry to the point it was difficult to chew. The most disappointing part though wasn’t the food but rather the lack of customer service afterward. I left them a message on their Facebook page and they never responded. In the old days, Joe would respond to every customer comment. It seems that since they’ve expanded, they no longer address every poor customer experience. It’s such a shame as that used to be their greatest strength.
This was not what I would have expected. It was like a hipster hot chicken joint. Chicken was ok but the staff not overly friendly. Sides not great. I would not think about taking kids in here as they will get a very dry chicken breast cutlet with the tendon still in it. Making it very tough to eat. You will have wasted money on a meal they will not eat. Being located so close to OSU it may fit the clientele but if you are coming in to Columbus from out of town it may not be what you would expect.
I use to love coming to Hot Chicken Takeover. My last two visits were disappointing. I always order medium wings. The price increased and to charge me $9 for the tiny wings Ive received the last 2 visits hambig disappointment. At this time I have no desire to pay more money and get less product. Staffing is great!
Hot Chicken Takeover is a must try when you visit Columbus. The food is all amazing... and I mean ALL. The chicken, the mac and cheese, and even the ranch is amazing. I always go for heat level warm, because its still quite spicy and has great flavor. And even more importantly, they help others get back on their feet again and provide opportunities to those that may struggle finding them otherwise. Its a great business to support all around!
Hot Chicken Takeover is an authentic and delicious take in Nashville style Hot Chicken. The food is delicious, the chicken is juicy and perfectly cooked, and the flavor is absolutely on point. Be forewarned, however, that the spice pulls no punches, so those who are uncertain should approach with caution. For those who like spice, however, youre in for an absolute treat.
Read the review and was very excited. I ordered the chicken breast cold spice with Mac and cheese and the baked beans. I would say it’s overrated. Chicken was over salted but true to spice. Mac and cheese was bland. Customer service was soso. Cashier was very nice and upbeat however everyone else not so. I walked in and a bunch of people were just standing not doing anything and just kept staring making it very awkward. Over it was alright but definitely not too favorite.
Hct: loved and hated. This time super meh.Joined mailing list and got free protein and side. Ok HCT. Sold. Add a kids meal and viola... They took my kids meal off... Ok glitch whatever. fine. 6.50 less. Nic feature online to add more pickle ranch and can even order the free tea.Arrived 2 minutes late in drive through. Not ready. 5 minutes (?) Later food without utensils I admitted to accepting her offer. ...Ok it was really busy.Kids chicken OVER COOKED. Tough. Good taste small spice burn which he likes. ... One extra pickle?Subpar. Paying for free tea ranch and white bread.
Painfully slow. Food is great if it eventually arrives. People are nice, but you shouldnt have to wait 20 min for 3 people to place their orders. Go to Westerville for better service.Depressing to drive 20 min somewhere and expect consistency from 1 restaurant to the other and finding out otherwise.
My first time going to Hot Chicken Take Over and the food was one of the best chicken restaurants in Columbus Ive been to. The food was very well seasoned and Mac & cheese was on point as well as the baked beans. And the service of the staff members (Dee Dee, Taylor, and Manager Josh) was excellent helping me figure out some of the best recommendations what to get, definitely will be back for more🙏🏼
As a native from Nashville and the birthplace of “Hot Chicken” (Prince’s) the chicken here was not bad! If you’re accustomed to hot chicken I would recommend the Hot or Holy (thanks Nate for those and the milk). I did not try any sides as I prefer fries. The sweat tea was good and the milk was much appreciated. Definitely want to try that pudding so I’ll be seeing them again soon.
Our band placed a Party Food order for a recent studio rehearsal session. We are a 5 piece band and ordered enough food for 10, although we only fed 8. The chicken was amazing and the Mac was perfect! We all ate throughout the day and still had plenty of leftovers. The manager (Adrian) was the one who took our order and we also noticed him working hard when we picked it up. The greeters at the window (James/Katie T) were very pleasant and friendly as well. Also, all of the extras (plates, cups, cutlery, serving utensils, etc...) were included! Perfect execution by the staff! Thank you HCT Clintonville! Youve gained some new groupies!
Yet another terrible delivery experience. After 90 minutes of waiting, I called to cancel the food. The restaurant manager said they could not cancel and to contact the online ordering (olo). Olo says to contact restaurant to cancel. I will dispute with the credit card company as we did not receive the order. This is the 4th (and last time) hot chicken takeover and olo has severely disappointed at this location.
Was excited to try this, have heard really good things. Was disappointed....chicken has a nice crisp to it, but was completely tasteless and has no seasoning. Was suppose to be “warm” heat, had zero spice at all. Mac and cheese was ok, not impressed. Was also expensive
Hot Chicken Takeover is the best place to eat in Columbus. Hands down. Its always my first stop when Im back in town. I would share a picture of the meal but its usually far too delicious looking to wait another second to eat. Excellent online ordering pickup window system, great handling of social distancing restrictions for these times, and during normal times absolutely awesome dining experience inside. Typically its unlimited tea, unlimited housemade ranch, and a nice communal dining experience at long tables with some pleasant checkered placemats. You gotta try to go as hot as you can go on there sauces (cold, warm, hot, or holy are posted, ask about hotter) to let the flavors really shine. Meals come with heavenly mac and cheese and slaw, some pickles and bread, to honor the Nashville chicken format. Also make sure to check out tasty treats like banana pudding (my favorite) or their waffles, which are basically funnel cakes.Staff is always awesome, and you get to know youre supporting local business and giving workers a fair chance with a fair wage!
We called literally 5 minutes before close to see if we could order food and our girl Keara hooked us up beyond belief. Great attitude even though they were basically closed already and took care off us on the sides, drinks, etc. so hard to find service like this but the staff here is top tier! (Especially Keara 😎)
I absolutely love this place the employees here are awesome and the food is always hot (in every sense of the word) and delicious. I ordered today and was late for pick up and they were so nice they still let me pick it up and gave me extra. Outstanding service and high quality food this place is definitely a must visit. I brought my mom who hates chicken here once and now we go once a week cause she likes it so much 😁
One of the best chicken spots in Columbus. Hot chicken that is flavored beyond belief, amazing mac and cheese, baked beans, or coleslaw if you prefer. The ranch is housemade and is like CRACK its so good. The house tea is complimentary and so delicious. Friendly service and amazing portions this is THE chicken spot!
I have been coming here since this location opened. I have never had service this bad until today had to call for a pick up order 4x and when finally picked up was on hold for 7 min. So just came in and it wasnt abnormally busy dont know why it took so long trying to get a pick up order. Asked for ranch and the little dude got smart with me. Not the typical service I would normally get from here.
This place is amazing. By far the best hot chicken restaurant in the state. The first time I got the hot and my wife got mild, the most recent time during our pandemic drive through visit we both upped our heat levels to Holy and hot. The service was really fast given how long the line was at the drive thru.We both expected a slightly less quality of meal given the drive thru take-out idea since the first time we dined in. We were wrong, everything was EXACTLY like our dine-in experience. Every time we go to the Columbus area we are stopping by for some Hot Chicken Takeover.

2021-06-11My family and I drove 4 hours to eat here (and go to the zoo). We ate here a few years ago when there was only one location, different location than this, and my family has talked about it so much since then. I wasn’t ready for any heat on my chicken on this trip so I stuck with the kids and ordered mine cold for the heat. My husband went down a level to medium this year and he thoroughly enjoyed his food. We had ordered the kids chicken with Mac, chicken sandwich (topped with coleslaw) and Mac, wings (5) and beans, and a banana pudding. The sandwich I ordered was so filling. I didn’t want to not finish my food as I was full before eating it all. It was seriously too good to let any go to waste. I ate my sandwich with their homemade ranch. I only like homemade ranch, not the store bought and this met my expectations. The coleslaw serve is so good. It’s lightly dressed and not the heavy mayo kind. Their Mac is creamy and baked so it’s the perfect combination of taste and texture. The sandwich is also served with pickles, the good dill cut pickles. My husband ate his 5 wings, no bread and no beans and was full just off that. The kids enjoyed their food so much and also enjoyed dipping the chicken in ranch. The banana pudding was divine. We all shared one serving since we were already full. The pudding was fresh,The homemade banana pudding tastes with real bananas. It did not disappoint. The meals came with sweet tea, served southern style as it is very sweet. The restaurant was clean, staff was friendly, and wait times were minimal.I can’t wait to go again today, two days in a row.

2021-10-07Beans spilled all over chicken and syrup was in the beans. Packaged horrible. Soggy bean chicken is what I have. This is fine for people who don’t mind food touching. You judge the waffles.Update: The customer service was TOP NOTCH! Respect with accountability. I will be back to try again!!

2022-01-16I was very pleasantly surprised to eat an entirely vegan meal. Incredible veggie nuggets made in-house with homemade vegan ranch, coleslaw and baked beans, which are also both vegan. One of the best meals I have had since going vegetarian. My non-vegetarian friend had the chicken thighs with waffles and mac & cheese, which he said were also delicious. The spice level here is very, very intense if you order the hot or extra hot.

2022-06-26Staff is always great / helpful...A few changes to note.Tea is no longer free with your meal. $1, so reasonable.Touch screen to place your order. Be careful, there is a 3 piece wings and a 5 piece wings meal. Now I want two more wings, which is not on the menu. You can now refill your own tea and water.I have added french fries, spicy ketchup and spicy ranch. They have also added chicken tenders. Now back to your regularly scheduled review.I had a perfect chicken wing today...One of the few places I can get spicy food. Wings holy with mac and beans is my go-to.There are tables set up inside and, when it is warm, tables set up outside.Every Tuesday the entire family comes so they can get their gluten-free chicken.I also really like the environment. The people seem to get along really well together and are kind to their customers. They have high chairs if you need them and they also just got these cute caution signs that look like bananas. They really compliment their banana pudding. As we are coming into Christmas, they have gift cards that you can buy. Highly recommended. And today, they completely nailed everything really spicy perfect tender chicken wings

2022-01-27Absolutely loved it! The service was impeccable and people there are so nice. There was hardly any wait at all and the chicken sandwich was delicious with a crunchy exterior and a juicy interior. Even though it was a chicken breast, it wasnt dry at all. The beans are so yummy as well! Highly recommend this as a place to visit!

2022-04-29Had a delicious lunch! Chicken is moist, spices are great! If you are in a sad or bad mood, Katie will brighten your day with her infectious smile and if you are lucky, you will hear her singing quietly as she works. She made my day with her genuine joy and cheerfulness. Helpful, friendly, fast, and my order was perfect. I love supporting this amazing company.

2021-12-08Very very tasty! This location has way better hours than the North Market one. Great variety of spice levels to meet everyones need, and everyone needs to try the banana pudding at least once!

2021-11-06Rolled up to HTC today and didn’t realize that the drive through was only for pick up orders. I called to put in my order and Josh answered the phone and was so friendly and understanding! He put a rush on my order, made jokes and kept me company while I waited, and gave me a big ol’ serving of my favorite chicken in cbus! Honestly loved the service and love the food! Will definitely be coming back to this location more often!

2021-10-02Friends and I order wings, see photo for size. Fun sized candy bar for context. Flavor was great, but the size was so tiny. $15 for 5 of these. Very disappointed for the size. Order something else to get a real sized meal.

2021-06-06This is a fantastic place for fried chicken. The staff is friendly, the service was fast, and the food is great. The waffles were not for me, but it is a great option nonetheless. I had the opportunity to try their food when they first were getting started in Columbus and wasnt disappointed then or now. Be sure to check out their mission, this is more than a restaurant. They provide jobs for those who need it most regardless of life circumstances. Great food and a great cause.
