The food is absolutely wonderful. they pay attention to detail. the broth in both dishes was rich, hot and flavorful. The restaurant was super clean. Our waiter was very professional & knew the menu quite well...he was very attentive. We will visit Hoshi Ramen often!!!!
Edit: be careful with take out here. Food is still good, but we have had several issues where they forget items. For example today, I have my Shoyu Ramen ingredients.. just no soup to go with it. Required a second drive back to the restaurant to get my full meal.Found this place just recently and have promptly gotten taken out multiple times! Love the ramen! Highly recommend getting extra egg!
What an awesome place to get your Ramen fill. Visiting a customer and flipped a coin for this or pho, and I was not disappointed. Their specials were great, the staff is great, the food was fantastic. Fast to the table the waitress suggested a few items and I just let her pick for me. All was good and added bonus my favorite Shochikubai Ginjo sake washed it all down. Don’t miss this place.
I can tell theres a really great culture with the staff. Lots of college students, but they didnt treat my family of 5 any differently 😊 I usually like to clean up the chaos, but they wouldnt let me - said they would take care of it no problem. Even with 2 kids in high chairs. Also you have to try the sesame mochi. Glad our server recommended it
Super yummy food! The restaurant is always very clean and the staff are very friendly. Our waiter even gave us anime sticker a couple of times. They also give a 5% discount to Wright state students which is super awesome. This is a great place with very yummy food and great service :)
The food is absolutely delicious! There’s no question about that! We stop here every week to get ramen, and it’s become one of the things I look forward to most about my Tuesdays! The only real reason I have for not giving 5 stars is that the dining area seems … empty? It’s not that there’s no customers, but there’s not a whole lot in the way of atmosphere. Ultimately, it’s not an experience ruining phenomenon. They do add decorations slowly, as they get things. I’m sure it’ll look amazing one of these days!I get the Shoyu ramen, and it’s absolutely my favorite. Highly recommend!
I adore Hoshi! The staff is wonderful, the building is clean, and the food is simply delicious. The menu is a very comfortable size with a lot of the dishes utilizing the same ingredients, allowing for a higher inventory turnover which keeps food fresh. This has become a comfort spot for me.
I’ve never eaten bad ramen before; however, out of the 10+ places I’ve eaten at around the country, Hoshi has probably been my least favorite…I’ve been to Hoshi 4 times, going back to when they first opened up. I like the addition of bao to their menu. It’s probably my favorite item to order. Their ramen, on the other hand, is serviceable. My friends that I bring who are “ramen novices” love Hoshi’s ramen, and Dayton area really doesn’t have too many other options to compete with them. Personally though, I think the broth lacks complexity, and the topping are too few… Broth is the #1 most important item in a ramen bowl! The tonkotsu broth taste isn’t as rich and fatty as I’ve had at other places… And the toppings not only add to the bowl’s flavors, but visually gives it its “wow factor”! Adding additional toppings won’t break the bank either with your current price margin per bowl.Lastly, please please please play some kind of music in the background! It’s too awkwardly quiet. Over the years, the inclusion of some decorations has been nice, but the whole environment just feels “sterile” compared to other ramen places I’ve been to. Some background music and a few more decorations can go a long way.I’ll definitely be back… but I’m still not sold on everything yet. I hope it only gets better.
The space is pretty open and would probably still feel ok if packed. The ramen is good, I got the shoyu. The noodles are pretty good, and the chasu is fantastic. The karaage was very good too.More infoRamen additions: The 1/2 egg was good, I think slightly undercooked. Nori was ok. Bamboo was ok. Like I said the chasu was extremely good, the fat fell apart in my mouth and the meat was moist and soft.If you get ramen, ask for a napkin ahead of time, before you need it. The broth + tare (the menu said they used both) are ok, it seemed a little light and slightly heavy on the oil. My ramen arrived within 40-50 seconds of my karaage so one of the few times Im going to complain about receiving my food too quickly although I was alone and the place was not packed. The staff were friendly, attentive and available, this was at 6 with about 10 other parties in a place that can seat 24 not counting the bar. 12 2-seat table, 6 4-seat tables and 6 4-seat bar/ hogh tables plus a bar the seats 11-12 depending on the spacing. The 12 seat was taken over by the utensil and food receiving area.No background music but the volume was very nice with 10 parties totaling 22 people and 3 babies (not crying). They have chopsticks at the table, forks probably avaible on request, I wasnt asked.
The price was ehh, but the food was really bland. By far the worst ramen place I have been to. The ramen Is terrible and small. I cannot say for their other food, but dont get the ramen. The pork Chashu that comes with the tonkotsu ramen is also pathetic. The picture I posted is all I got.... terrible.
I was very excited when I heard that a ramen shop would be opening nearby, but I waited until this weekend to go - I wanted to hear how others felt about it.Well, everyone was right - this was is fantastic! The prices of everything was right where they should be (though I would have been willing to pay more, absolutely!).Started off with the karaage bao. The fried chicken was so crisp and well seasoned and fried, accompanied by a very refreshing house slaw in a light aioli. Also ate some of a friends standalone karaage, which was fantastic again - could even suggest some sort of dipping sauce or a light garnish to go along with the lemon wedge?Main meal was the Katsudon. The description is simple enough; deep-fried pork cutlet (not unlike schnitzel) and half a medium-boiled egg, ontop of rice which soaked up some delicious dashi broth - however the flavors and execution of the Katsudon receive a 10/10. I believe I found a new favorite dish - not too salty, definitely full of umami and perfect mouth-feel.The simple modern seating and the pleasant wait staff rounded out a fantastic dining experience. Will 100% be making many return trips to try the other fantastic dishes!
The service was great, the prices were very reasonable, and the food was delicious! This is a sit down restaurant. There are also seats at a bar area. The menu is also a pretty good size with several options that are not strictly noodles. We were pleasantly surprised and cant wait to come back!
Three stars for now as this place should iron out a few things to maintain consistency. Would like to see options that theyve prepared before, actually ON the menu (jjampong and jjajangmyeon). Although they do offer a seafood ramen that is similar to jjampong, the noodles are different and the seafood medly is mediocre. Some side items to go along with the ramen would be nice such as kimchi or pickled daikon radish. Perhaps offer how spicy one would prefer their ramen as well, in case some folks are really relying on that extra spiciness to top off the overall flavor. The karaage chicken was good and not too oily but to avoid blandness (for those who arent used to authentic Japanese dishes), a dipping sauce would be good. Otherwise the service was good and the atmosphere is nice. Will be back in the future!
Everywhere Ive traveled, Ive tried the local Ramen. With this new ramen place in Fairborn, I had to give it a try while I was in town. Although it looks fantastic, it left much to be desired.Pork was over seasoned (maybe too much pepper or salt), marinated egg wasnt gooey and was cold. Broth wasnt creamy as advertised, just seasoned. Id love to have a great ramen available locally, but I dont think Id try again. On a positive note. It wasnt over priced as may ramen shops can be. The limited menu allows for them to have a focus. Finally the staff was very friendly, supportive, and allowed for a Covid safe environment.
Their tonkotsu ramen $11 was pretty good! Wish the soup broth was more thick like one in Japan. Some crashed garlics and sesame seeds would give more flavor. That is cool that they can do “kae dama ” which you order just for ramen noodles $4 and put in the soup after you eat and enjoy as a second bowl . Pork bun $3 was different from what I expected but good too.
Before Hoshi Ramen, I was in a drought. Things werent looking good on the horizon. On this day, where I was at my wits end, a star arose in the north. It was a sign. The sign of Hoshi Ramen. I walked in was greeted by the nicest people and had food in my face within 5 minutes. Life is simpler now. When I need to relax I come here. Ramen is straight fire, Bao is straight fire and the Don dishes spit straight fire. 10/10 will reach enlightenment here.
Excellent food, the eggs were creamy, the broth was good, the noodles firm, but the chashu was the star of the show here. While it may not be round it was soft and tasty and melted in my mouth. The restaurant around it is simplistic and minimalist in its design, keeping focus on the food where it belongs.
This place just opened up yesterday, and is owned by some of the family members who ran the old Flying Tiger restaurant in downtown Fairborn. This new restaurant is a different style of cuisine than the old one, and focuses more on noodle/rice dishes. I tried the House Chahan today, which is a rice dish containing pork, shrimp, chicken, and egg. It was very tasty. See the attached photo. I also tried the chicken wings from the appetizer section of the menu. The wings tasted nearly identically to the old wings from Flying Tiger, which is great. The menu says the wings are spicy, but they were not even close to anything anyone would call spicy. Overall, this seems like a great restaurant, and Ill be back to try their other dishes.
This was my first time here. I was really blown away by the service and presentation. The atmosphere was nice and prices were fair. My only complaint was the broth wasnt really good on the tonkotsu ramen. It advertised having a creamy rich broth but it was very watered down and I needed to add a bit of spice to make it worth eating. I would definitely try one of the other ones if I visited next time. The reason for 4 stars instead of 3 was the amazing service. Super friendly and nice people.
We came here last week for my step brothers birthday. He loves Ramen. Our waiter was very nice and attentive he was also very patient and understanding and wanted to make sure we had a good experience. The staff worked very well together to check on tables. Our food was delicious, nice and hot and hit the spot. We will definitely be back. Thank you so much!
The presentation and service were excellent. The temperature of my food (very important to me) was also excellent. My husband had the miso ramen and I had the tonkotsu ramen and we shared an order of the spicy Korean wings. The ramen broth just lacked depth and flavor. The wings were crisp, but I think maybe the frying oil may not have been fresh? I want to give this place another try.
Wonderful! Definitely 5 stars, without any doubt. Beautiful cuisine, packed with flavor, impeccably presented. Hoshi Ramen is THE top Ramen destination in the Dayton area. The restaurant is airy, welcoming and inviting, and the wait staff are the friendliest, nicest people you could wish for. The Raman is out of this world good, and we’re gradually working through their lovely menu. Recommend the deep fried Tofu as a starter and the huge selection of mouthwatering Mochi to finish - try their black sesame seed Mochi!
So glad to have found this place, even though I have passed by it numerous times, tonight was our first time actually noticing and deciding to give it a try. We were not disappointed! Very friendly and helpful staff and the food was very good, too. A nice selection of unique foods and a wide variety of complimentary beverages including beer, wine, sake, and soju. Dont be afraid to ask for help from your server if you are unfamiliar with any of the menu items.
Have eaten here a couple of times and really enjoy this place. I have done dine in and take out and have had amazing service each time.I usually get the Katsudon and like to try a different appetizer every time. ORDER THE CROQUETTES. They are basically a fried mashed potato and corn mix. Very good.
Honestly, I LOVE this place. The people are like your friends, they’re so nice. All the ingredients, from the eggs to the bamboo shoots are fresh and delicious. And those mushrooms!!! 👏🏻😍The place itself is super chill and clean! Very quick, friendly and attentive service. We’ve been here about 6 or 7 times so far in just a few months and it’s always been such a great time, wether for carryout or dine in. You can tell that the owner and staff care about the food and people. We’ll always be fans of Hoshi!P.S. Tip for carryout, no matter where you are!
Amazing and authentic ramen! Incredibly rich broth and filling portions. I recommend getting the shoyu ramen spicy! The staff is extremely polite and well informed concerning the menu. We met the owner briefly when we told our server about a food allergy at our table and he was accommodating and kind! He made sure that we were all going to get a delicious meal. We cant wait to come back soon and try the various other ramen!
These 5 star reviews are baffling. The ramen was straight up unpleasant - lacking in flavor and what was flavored did not taste good. I ate it because no time to find something better. Ive had authentic ramen in Japan and good ramen in the states. This is neither. Will never return and highly do not recommend wasting your time, money, or calories. People were nice but thats it.
Very warm, welcoming environment. Friendly staff, great food, and fantastic portion sizes. To top it all off they even hid 5 Studio Ghibli stickers under my card as a thank you after i paid. Would recommend this place to anyone who loves ramen (and insist to those who dont, try it here!)
I got the teriyaki don and it tasted good. But my husband got the tonkatsu ramen and it was lacking in flavor. Ramen isn’t supposed to have mushrooms in it, but it should come with bean sprouts. The noodles were not cooked right. The eggs were undercooked and not marinated correctly. For the price you are not getting the flavor you should.
The server was very kind but everything was very bland. The low rating is because of the quality of food not due to service. The tea was not very strong and was not steeped long enough. The katsudon was very sweet and not at all what I was expecting. There was no white onion, the katsu was not cooked with the egg mixture and was just placed on top with a bunch of green onions. It was served with a shoyu tamago while confusing because its not normally served with katsudon was very good. The tonkatsu ramen broth had no flavor and was very watery with no rich pork bone flavor. The noodles were low quality and did not have the correct bounce or texture. The char siu fries were ok. The garlic aioli was flavorful but the meat was definitely not char siu. It was more akin to a pulled pork. One highlight was the karaage. It was crunchy and well seasoned. It was also very pleasant to see that they used thigh meat.
Honestly one of my favorite dining experiences! My son loved the ramen and the karaage was amazing He couldnt choose which one to take a bite from after each mouthful because he was so happy shoveling his mouth. I had seafood ramen and it was so good. Def recommend the baos. Try them all!! No regrets I swear.
I came down to Dayton for a KISS concert that ended up being delayed, so with that news. I got me a bite to eat here. The atmosphere is nice, they had some anime on the tv, and it was overall a very pleasant experience. But the food was the real great part. I had a Tonkotsu ramen bowl, priced in around 12 dollars. For that I got a pretty good sized bowl filled with delicious noodles, broth, and pork. Overall. Give this place a try.
Seriously great food! This place has been open since 2019 and it is the first time I ate here even though I have passed by a great number of times. The décor is very Ying and Yang. Black and white all over but in a very good way. Very clean and quite comfortable to eat there. The service is outstanding as well. My drink never saw the bottom of my glass and the server was very knowledgeable about the menu and the way the food was prepared. My food was brought promptly and dishes were removed from the table when we were done with them without being constantly annoyed by the interruption of the server, as I have experienced countless times in other establishments. The food which is the real star is simply amazing. I had a shrimp appetizer served on a bun. The aioli was delicious and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. Was not rubbery or deep fried to a crisp, instead it was light and airy and truly was a great way to start the meal. A single bun was $3 which is not bad for a single serving.I ordered the tentenmenn ramen and it was so good. The chicken broth had been slowed cooked and reduced to give a wonderful taste. The fatty meat and fresh vegetables went very well with the ramen noodles and the pickled egg just polished the dish to perfection. The serving size was the Goldie Locks of the dinner; not too little and not too much. For $12 for the dish, that was a very fair price in my opinion. If I had to say something that wasnt the best, I would say the broth was a little salty. But really, that is my own preference as I really dont eat a lot of salt so I am a bit more sensitive to the taste, but the con is minor at best. The only other con I could come up with is the fact they serve Gold Peak tea in a bottle for $2. Not that it is a bad price but I am a tea drinker and would have liked to get free refills on my drinks. They do offer soda with free refills, but I prefer tea. They should make their own tea in house, it is kind of standard in most restaurants these days.If you cant decide what you want to eat for dinner, then my friend, let me suggest this wonderful place to eat at tonight. You will not be disappointed. This is a gold standard when it comes to eating out. If more restaurants did it like they do, life would be so much better. They are closed on Mondays, but they open on Tuesday and I will be the guy standing in line waiting for them to open so I can get more soup! Hurry before they run out....
Amazing Ramen. They do have a small menu but everything...and I do mean everything... tastes great. And most of all...it is always the same. Every time I have been there their flavors are exactly how I remember them. No surprises good or bad. Just repeated amazing service.
Id been recommended this place and glad I stopped by! If you choose to eat in, its simple yet stylistic and the staff is wonderful. The food is amazing--I got the tonkotsu ramen, which was super yummy, flavored with a creamy soup base. I have to mention: the chashu bao was probably one of the best things Ive eaten in my life. Seriously craving it again while Im writing this review 🤣I cant wait to go back and try everything on the menu. Do yourself a favor and visit!
This is by far my favorite ramen shop Ive ever been to, the staff is always friendly and helpful, they play anime on the tv, and the food is always incredible. Im unsure if there is a single thing on their menu I dont like. Highly recommended :) Ive been there many times.
So I have been coming here consistently once a week for a little over a year now. The atmosphere, the personable staff and very flavorful food has always left me satisfied, and excited for my visit next week. I highly recommend having a bowl of Tantanmen, with a few extra soft boiled eggs.
Got takeout here for myself and my wife. Service was good and staff was friendly but the food left a lot be be desired. Ordered 4 items (Tonkotsu Ramen, Vegetarian Ramen, Korean Wings and Tofu Boa) found them all bland and disappointing. Definitely doesnt even begin to approach authenticity.
I havent found a place that can beat Hoshi Ramen in well priced japanese food. They have good broths and ingredients and a decent variety for somewhere centered around ramen.I love their Miso, tonkatsu bowls, and kaarage. The workers there are friendly and mostly college students. Ive always had good service and will gladly go back again and again
I have had Hoshi Ramen twice now and both times have been delicious! The only complaints I have are that they run out of things on the menu without notice. You just have to ask the staff if there are items on the menu that are no longer available. I have ordered the Seafood Ramen twice and it is REALLY good! The first time I had it, the noodles were a little too undercooked. But it had 3 red chilies in it to make it spicier than it already was, which I enjoyed. The second time having the Seafood Ramen, it didnt have any chilies, and wasnt as spicy. But the noodles were cooked just right, and they added an egg. So, its either they are working kinks out, or they are inconsistent. Overall though, I would highly suggest this restaurant to others. The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxing. Go check it out!!!
I got the miso bowl and it was the best Ramen I have had in a very long time, Im from the DC area and was here to get surgery. Afterwards I was really craving some ramen and I was not disappointed. The pork was the best I have ever had, Ive never been a fan of pork but I ordered extra because it was so good. If you have time I highly recommend stopping by! 👍
Hoshi was AMAZING!! The staff was on point (waiter: Bryton) and the food could legit be my last meal! I had just about every bao on the menu (the shrimp was my fav)! I also had the Korean spicy chicken wings and miso ramen 🤤 I highly recommend Hoshi Ramen!!! Oh yea, get the plum wine with a splash of seltzer water!😉 ♥️✌🏾
Hoshi Ramen is a beautiful, modern restaurant. Service was great and so was the food. I had the Tokyo ramen which comes with egg, scallions, bamboo shoots and pork belly. Dont let the pork belly fool you... its lean and flavorful, and the broth was so rich and tasty. I would have given one more star but I felt like the menu was a bit limited. You should try it!
The Hoshi Ramen restaurant provides outstanding Chinese, Korean and Japanese cuisine. The Korean jangpong soup is amazing. The restaurant design is very appealing, and the atmosphere is full of life. I had lunch on a Friday afternoon, and the service was very good and the food was prepared in a reasonably short time. I will definitely return soon.
Greatest Ramen place in town (when open) optimistic that service will be stellar and food delicious. Now that this place is actually open....plastic chopsticks ate placed in holders... dont know if they are clean or not. Service was good and food came out relatively fast.Waitress came by often, and whether my wife and i were talking, she would always interrupt without an excuse me, or pardon me.. how is everything. We will more than likely not come back again. Fried chicken was better than both our Raman Soups. 5 stars to 2 Star rating.
It had good service? Thats about the only thing I can say. Disappointed in the rest. Had the tonkotsu ramen, pork cutlet. The pork was burnt on the edges, like, literally charred with charcoal taste. The noodles were Maruchan brick ramen, without the flavor packet. And the broth; thats the most important part of ramen, but there was no flavor. No detectable salt or other seasonings, no umami, nothing. Tasted like store bought chicken broth, the cheap, light, no-sodium kind. Seriously disappointed.
Hands down the best ramen Ive ever had. Both the tonkotsu and the seafood were amazing, the buns were soft and flavorful, the chashu was delicious, and the service was incredible. The only thing I would change would be to sell us the tee shirts. Thanks so much guys, you are my new favorite restaurant and the gold standard of ramen. Also, if you like spicy ramen, get the Red Dragon. After trying each kind of their ramen, it is my favorite.
It was our first time out to eat as a family in months, and it was quiet and peaceful. Our server (Juliana, I think) was patient and attentive whole we figured out what all our boys wanted and then even brought the mochi we ordered out cut into pieces so we could share. I had the Japanese fried chicken and it was so crunchy and flavorful. I loved it. Next time I am getting the shoyu ramen after tasting some of anothers bowl. The stock was amazing. My husband, who loves loves loves vegetarian food and ramen, was so happy with his fathers day bowl of the veggie ramen! We will be back ♥️
This isnt your top ramen thats for sure. Amazing food, amazing ramen, fresh ingredients, good staff. Highly recommend! Truly a great place especially so close to wright state. Just beware its not a fast casual type of experience it is a sit down place since everything is cooked to order. The portions are very large which is why the price is a tad high but totally worth it!!
Dinner today was awesome. They have only been opened for 4 days and we expected to have a long wait for a table but only ended up waiting for about 15. We checked the Facebook page and so we knew that they were out of a couple items for the week like the gyoza and bao buns. Being opening week it makes sense that they had a few challenges so we plan on coming again to try those. We had the seafood ramen, spicy chicken wings., Karaage, and the Yangjangpi and Jjamppong off the Korean menu. The seafood ramen and Jjamppong were delicious. The broth was spicy and savory and each bowl had a large portion of assorted seafood. The portions were a good size. My wife couldnt finish all her noodles but still sipped on the broth till it was gone. The Yangjangpi was beautifully plated. The flat noodles in there were chewy and complimented the vegetables and seafood, and the spicy mustard gave it just enough kick. The chicken wings were full of flavor, spicy and crunchy. We got 6 very large size wings/drums which was nice because often we see dinky wings elsewhere. The Karaage was crunchy on the outside and well seasoned on the inside. The lemon you squeeze on it gave it just enough acidity to make you want to keep eating themWe will definitely be regulars and hope to be back in a week or so when they have brought back the rest of their menu items. We are excited to try them all out!
At first, I thought it was a bit pricey, but you get a good amount of food with the main dishes. So it really was worth it! We tried the fried tofu...I liked it, my daughter loved it! Then the bao...OMG! Not exactly traditional, but we absolutely LOVED the Karaage bao! Delicious! The Chashu bao was also tasty, but I recommend the prior! We also had the Tantanmen Ramen...delicious! And the Miso Ramen...good, but just not MY thing. Tried the Chashu Chahan (pork fried rice)...it was REALLY good! And lastly, we had some kimchi on the side...real tasty, but not a lot of heat, which is fine! Overall, had a nice time! Waiter was great! Food was delicious and hot! Will definitely go back!!
Wonderfully authentic ramen, just as good as the ramen I enjoyed while in Japan. You can stuff yourself on a single bowl, and the prices are more than reasonable. Chefs did an amazing job at getting the ingredients done *right* (Especially the braised pork)! Delicious 😋😋
I went the Saturday after they opened. As expected, they were out of a few things. For all of the people that seemed outraged that this place ran out of items their first week, thats what happens during the first few weeks!Anyway, it was absolutely DELICIOUS. I had the tonkostu ramen, the Korean BBQ wings and the deep fried tofu. I dont even LIKE tofu and I enjoyed every bite. The wings were delightful and the ramen was absolutely delicious. I cant wait to go back and see them really get used to the menu in about a month. The pork in the ramen literally melted in my mouth and I was so sad when I had eaten it all. The wait staff is extremely friendly and while theyre still working out the first-time kinks our experience was not affected in the least. If this is the food they serve and the atmosphere that they serve it in just in the first week, then I am very excited to see it evolve. 10/10 will certainly be back again!
Im going to start by saying if the name of your restaurant is a specific food, you should deliver an excellent version of that food. I was disappointed to observe that they do not make their own noodles, and the pork belly was very underwhelming. The boa buns were tasty, and I have heard good things about the katsu, but I was un-impressed with the main attraction. They also do not offer many ways to modify your soup, no vinegar or chili on the tables. The place is kind of sterile inside because its new, but I hope they choose to decorate with some art at some point. I was hoping for an authentic Ramen joint, but all we got was a basic-college kid level impressive Chinese restaurant. I do hope they make improvements as they grow in popularity.
I went to both the opening day and the Sunday that follows. The difference of quality is day and night. The seafood ramen is spicy and delicious, the noodles are cooked just right. The karaage is my favorite thing on the menu. I dont like a lot of fried chicken of sorts for the most part, but its something I love. It comes out fresh, hot and juicy, just squirt some of the lemon juice on top and its great. Just dont bite into it right away it is piping hot.
This place is okay. The food wasnt all that great. The ramen noodles were good. Otherwise, the broth was too salty. The staff was really nice, but it was unorganized. They kept bringing us the wrong order. That being said, we understand they just opened, so theyre probably still working out the kinks.
Saw this place and decided to eat there. Ill be going back for sure. Great atmosphere, plenty of seating, what looks like a bar, TV with subbed anime by the bar area.I had the Shoyu ramen and it was amazing. Its been 8 years since Ive had good ramen and I finally found a local place that serves ramen like I had in Japan.Ill be going back for more. I cant wait to try other entrees out either. Fairly priced and well worth it.
The staff were great. When we got the food, I only noticed half of an egg. This is the first ramen shop Ive been to that only gave half an egg. No option to have it hard-boiled, but it wasnt bad. I had the shoyo ramen. I was underwhelmed by the blandness of the broth. With every bite I had a feeling that something was missing. I wish there was something available on the table to add to it, like to add some heat to it or something. My kid had the kaarage (fried chicken) and realized they used dark meat, so it was off-putting when I notice my kid eating pink nuggets (we are used to the using the typical white meat).Edemame was good. The pork belly was great. Price a bit high, and flavor of the broth were lacking a bit.Overall, it was okay. I dont think Id go back.
My husband and I went to this restaurant earlier this evening since it was one of the few restaurants that have the dining room opened due to covid-19. Right when our food came out; one of the guys who I would like to assume is an employee came out and was on the phone saying he didn’t feel good and had symptoms and another employee came out and checked his temperature. It was in the high 90’s and instead of sending this guy home, they let him just continue sitting around. I honestly won’t go back because of this.
This place is getting a two star only because the restaurant environment is nice. Everything else is subpar.1. Food. We got shoyu ramen, chashu bun and don kasu. Ramen was flavorless and the noodles were stuck in a ball. There was no fish cake. When I say flavorless I mean it! It’s like hot water with a splash of soy sauce. Bun was cold (maybe it’s suppose to be cold), the flavor was good, but the meat in there was ALL FAT. Ugh so gross. Finally, the don katsu, rice was hard, eggs were SO SALTY, but the meat was alright. I’d recommend this dish if you enjoy more salty foods.2. Service. The first two thing we ordered were not being offered (gyoza and I forget the second thing), which is not a big deal except they open at 4:30 and we came before 5pm. How did you not prepare? Also the place was half full, and they stopped seating people.3. Environment. Overall decor is nice and very good lighting.BUT we can hear people yelling for the waiters (if I hear ALYSSA SERVICE one more time). And then people were loudly fighting in the kitchen! So unprofessional and awkward!4. Advertisement. This place had great reviews and upon further examination, it looks like some of them were given before they opened, and some of them are definitely by family and friends of the staff. Add together, that’s most of the reviews. This is a true and honest experience I had on July 24 from 4:40-5:30pm. I do not recommend dine in. Perhaps take out of non ramen item would be ok.
Heard about this place from a co-worker and tried it on the same day. I was excited about a ramen restaurant nearby. The experience was really mediocre. Its really pricey for what you get.First of all, like many reviewers, my server listed off 1/4 the menu as unavailable since they had run out (its 12:30pm on a sat!). I ordered the starter karaage and the seafood ramen. The ramen came out before my starter! The ramen wasnt fresh, its like they cooked it the day before or earlier in the week and refrigerated or froze it until its used. Its 10 days after the grand opening! Come on guys! The karaage tasted good but cold by the time I got to it. The broth tasted good but the meat portions were really skimpy. There was about 4 pieces of shrimp, 4 thin rings of calamari and and half an egg.Bill before tipping was $23.50 for one person. Overall it was really meh and probably wont be back. Ill be continuing to go to linhs bistro down the street for much better meal for less.
OH MY GOODNESS. I came with my sisters and we ordered the dry jjajangmyun, chicken karaage, and the tonkatsu ramen. My favorite dish was the tontkatsu ramen and chicken karrage. The chicken karrage was perfect to feed four people. I didn’t have to wait too long to be seated and my waiter, Sam is very attentive and kind. He knew all answers to my questions I asked about the menu. All the workers are very welcoming. I feel so content about my experience here at Hoshi. I know this won’t be my last time coming.
This place is absolutely amazing and delicious, I wish I had a picture of the food but I always eat it took quickly to appreciate it through social media aha. This is a must try place if you love ramen and they also have plenty of amazing dishes like bao buns and so much mood. I CANNOT recommend this place enough!
Great staff and great food. I lived in Japan 4 years and traveled throughout the far east. This ramen is the best. I had the tonkatsu ramen opening day and the seafood ramen today. Both were excellent! Opening day was difficult but well worth the experience. Today(Saturday) was less busy and staff more relaxed. I expect the problems will be quickly solved and plan to frequent Hoshi Ramen regularly!
The Ramen is decent. I partaked in the Miso Ramen and the broth was mediocre. A little more garlic would of been great! The real star of the Ramen was the pork they used. It was absolutely delicious! It was the real saving grace for the ramen. As things progress, it would be nice to have a description of each item on the menu for individuals not versed in the different Ramen additions. Additionally, some spice and garlic bombs to throw in would be amazing as well!
First of all I went here three times to give this restaurant a shot. The first day was their grand opening. Went for lunch and waited two hours to just have gyoza and karagae chicken. The gyoza tasted store bought and the chicken karagae was ok. Lacked seasoning and flavor. Did not get the rest of my meal because I had to get back to work.Day two came the same time at lunch to give this place a second chance. I was turned away because my whole party of two was not there. We left and went somewhere else. There was already a long line and did not want a repeat of the first day.Third times a charm right? Went on a weekend, the wait was not bad, and got seated in 10 minutes. We ordered katsudon, shoyu ramen, Kimchi fried chicken, gyoza (which they forgot to bring out), and fried rice. I was really disappointed with the food and the whole experience together. We waited all this time for something I could have made at home. The shoyu ramen lacked flavor and was watered down. There was only one pork meat and half a egg in my bowl. The Kimchi chicken just tasted like sriracha sauce with butter. The chicken fried rice tasted like any typical chinese fried rice you get anywhere in dayton. Most of the items on the menu were all out. If you truely want real Japanese ramen try Araiaki in Miamisburg they will not disappoint.
I was happy to hear a new place to get ramen was nearby. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen and kaarage. I have never had kaarage before, but it tasted good and makes me think of fried chicken and soy sauce. Next up is the ramen, but I must mention I have had ramen from two restaurants and make my own tonkotsu ramen. Out of the 4 ramens I have now had, I place this in 3rd place. The star of the show was the chashu pork. I could lightly taste the marinade and it wasnt tough like #4s was. I have not had chashu pork made by any others, so this was a pleasant experience compared to the other ramen I had. The noodles can be described as tough and chewy. It could be my preference of tender noodles, but this was the chewiest I have had. The broth had flavor to it and was adequate. I prefer my own broth, but it was probably a little lower quality to #2. The broth also doesnt have the iconic milky white that tonkotsu has since it has soy tare in it. I have to say I was disappointed in the amount of ingredients. The ramen restaurant I love most serves a whole egg and 3-4 thick pieces of pork belly alongside green onions, narutomaki, burnt garlic chili oil, and chicharon for $12. I usually spent $13 to make my own ramen that would have 2 extra ingredients like cauliflower and bok choy and they were not skimped. Hoshis tonkotsu ramen was $11 and served 2 thin slices of chashu pork, half of a soft boiled egg, green onion, and two pieces of bamboo shoot with what looked like kombu not nori. Honestly, I feel like the tonkotsu ramen at Hoshis was a few dollars too expensive for the amount of food and maybe quality. However, the meal will fill you up if you feel satisfied by normal portion sizes.I really want to enjoy Hoshi Ramen, and will eat their other menu items, but their tonkotsu ramen was dissatisfying to what I paid and have had before. This place was described to me as a ramen shop made inexpensive for students and I disagree. A whole egg, one or two more slices of bamboo and chashu and I might agree. I am happy to see others enjoying this ramen shop though!
Absolutely delicious and authentic ramen. Yes, they were out of some menu items but this is their first week, theres no way to predict what was going to be popular or if there would be unforseen issues with shipments. Cut them a break. We are 100% going to be back and most likely be regulars here. Their pork belly is some of the best Ive had in my life--no joke. Id definitely reccomend this place to anyone.
The ramen was good. It seemed authentic and was filling. The softboiled egg appeared to be brined in soy sauce which was delicious. I got the seafood ramen ($14). I was pleased, but I reserve my five star rating only because I have had a better seafood ramen at less than this price point ($12 at Haru in Cincinnati) so that is my gold standard. I will come back though.
I went yesterday and wanted to try their bao buns. When I went to order, the server rattled off a long list of things they were out of (including the bao). I was disappointed, but decided to try the tonkotsu ramen. The broth was bland and flat.I was looking forward to trying Hoshi,I and give it a few weeks before I try it again. Hopefully theyll figure out their food supply issues so I can give a better rating.
Staff was nice but I can’t remember the last time I’ve ever had food that had almost no flavor to it. I got the the Spicy Korean Chicken $8 ( 6 Wingettes ) And Shrimp Chahan $11( Shrimp Fried Rice. I was very disappointed in the food. For the cost, I could’ve when to CJ-CHAN, got a little more for my money and food that actually taste great!!!
Best Ramen in Dayton, by far! I had the tonkotsu ramen and it was tasty! The pork in the ramen was delicious and the best part of the ramen.Im giving 4 stars because, for me, the broth lacked flavor and seasoning. I found it a little watery. It would also be nice if each table had their own togarashi and chili oil.Still, everything was tasty and Ill definitely be back.
If you have had anything even remotely close to authentic Japanese food... RUN as fast as you can from this place... this has been my single worst experience with ramen in my entire life and thats really saying something... I have found no good ramen in the area but if you want REAL ramen that doesnt taste like wattered down, sour, bitter, salty depression go to Maki Express in Cincinnati and youll understand just how awful this place is ☠☠☠
My wife and I ate there last night. I hope this is still because of being new but there were issues. The appetizer plates appeared to have been put up wet from dishwashing, (Wet nested.) and were dirty. 2 health code violations right off the bat. The appetizer itself, was just okay. I had the tonkatsu and it was decent. but both the soft boiled eggs in my wifes dish and mine were cold. I know timing soft boiled eggs is tricky, but if it is a major part of your cuisine. you need to get it right. I will try them again, but this was disappointing.
The food is really good, however the tonkostu broth is pretty bland. I feel like they try and make up for it by putting in more black garlic, but it tastes like they just dont allow the beef to properly simmer long enough at all. Ive been a few times since they opened and its still the same. Everything else is absolutely delicious though! The bao buns are to die for and everything on the appetizer menu is delicious. The shoyu ramen has the strongest broth and I recommend that for anyone.
This was the worst dining experience and the worst ramen I have ever tasted. I say tasted because I had two bites and pushed it away. The first bite was luke warm, there was no egg and when I asked where the tofu was they said it was still in the fryer, which by the way, if I wanted to eat a heavily deep fried greased up bite of oil, I would’ve gone to the Ohio state fair for cheese on a stick. There was no seasoning whatsoever and the noodles weren’t cooked all the way. Definitely not hand stretched noodles. The person I was with ordered the ramen that came with meatballs and it came with one tiny one that was so gross she couldn’t eat more than one bite. I have eaten ramen in many different cities for years and just recently moved back to Dayton from Columbus and was excited to try this. I really can’t believe it. I don’t know how it’s getting good reviews unless these people have never had ramen elsewhere besides the 25¢ packets at home which actually have more flavor and spice than Hoshi.
This place was great. I was trying to find something for my boys who want to eat ichiraku Ramen luke they have in naruto. The broth was great with plenty of noodles. Only thing missing is naruto maki. We also tried the tonkotsu bao bun this was also great. Nice aioli with it.Our Waitress was great she immediately knew what I meant when I said naruto Ramen.
Just Ok. Then again my standards for Japanese food are higher than most people, i had their Katsudon, the pork cutlet was overly crispy and fried in an american style. It was a little salty. The egg on it was perfect though i did find a large hunk of egg shell.Rather disapointed that they did not have Tempura or Takoyaki. The price per portion is very good. Will definitely be returning but probably wont be getting the Katsudon again.Edit:1 july 30 3:09pmTheir gyudon is not gyudonThe texture of the meat was that of chewing gum and the flavor of it was incorrect as wellThe meat was heavily over cooked and was the wrong cut as wellGyudon is suposed to be made with Shabu Shabu and was instead made with what i can only asume to be cuts of mini steakThe flavor of the rice was okGyudon is typically served with pickled ginger instead of a half a softboiled egg, though the egg was the nicest thing ahout it.
I previously gave a 5 star rating. The Tonkotsu ramen was delicious the first time I was there. But the 2nd and 3rd time the Tonkotsu Ramen was borderline disgusting. Very sad about it to be honest. There is no where else in Dayton to get a decent Tonkotsu Ramen :-/ If the owner would make a classic Kyushu Tonkotsu it would make good money.
This is mainly the rating for the ramen. If you have been to Japan and know what ramen taste like, you’ll be incredibly disappointed. It’s Edible. It’s MEH. The Miso broth and Tonkotsu broth tasted nearly the same...they both tasted like salted water (not soy sauce, just salt). The chashu was Okay. You’ll only get a small rectangular piece versus the round pieces that are usually served with ramen. That being said, do expect to have none/little itty bitty Lardy pieces, or just one slice of chashu. Feel free to ask for actual chashu if you get the lardy bitty pieces. The servers will kindly get you more.Overall, it’s just an okay place. The hosts and servers were friendly. I will come again to try the other dishes, but I don’t think I’ll be ordering ramen. It’s sad, however, that the ramen wasn’t that great despite it being their specialty.
I frequent this outstanding place every couple of days since I love the ambiance that is part of this restaurant. The team is awfuly cordial and skilfull. The service is extremely quick. Also, the food they serve is perfect. I frequent many times and I was always satisfied. The cost is honest. I recommend this place to to all.
Very bad...the ramen doesn’t taste like ramen it’s very dry like not cooked well. It is for real not even better than the one $2 that you can buy from Asian market, the Ramen I order is $13 that bring you some ramen, half egg, soup and 1 meatball, yes ONE meatball. Defiantly won’t come anymore.
My tonkotsu ramen had no chashu at all, so a bit bummed on that. Flavor was solid, noodles a bit more firm than I expected, but softened a bit over time. Tried the general tsos chicken wings which were pretty good, they had tons of sauce on them. Also did a side of the steamed edamame which was a good touch. They were out of a lot by the time we got in, including the bao buns.
The cucumber water was the best part of the $41 meal of three. No condiments at the table, and we were never asked if we wanted something else to drink, besides the water. We had to ask the waitor why one of the meals didnt have the beef it was inclined to have. He then basically said whoops my bad, i forgot to say we were out of beef & asked if we wanted 4 tiny little meatballs to replace the beef . Wont be going back..

2022-06-16A great restaurant located in a convenient place: Parking is easy, Customer service is outstanding, and the food is fantastic. Another thing that actually impressed me was the Bathroom: super clean! This is second time we were here and enjoyed lunch. We go as family so we ordered plenty of varieties. See our pictures. Be back soon again as we love this place. Thanks.

2021-12-23Fantastic first experience at Hoshi Ramen! Loved our server, he was very accommodating to our lack of knowledge with the food/menu and made lunch that much more enjoyable. Will definitely return to try more items on the menu. It was all very good.

2022-04-03The atmosphere was nice and clean. The hostess was a little weird but cool. The menu has a many options. I wish that they had a Beef Ramen and more pictures of the food. A break down on what each ingredient was in English would also help. Price reasonable! My ramen noodles was good and my Wings was Awesome 👍😎

2021-12-06Excellent food and outstanding service. They have a great selection of Japanese and Korean dishes. The ramen was fantastic! Most places in there area use way too much salt in the ramen, but Hoshi does it right. They will also customize the spiciness level to your tastes. The service was done of the best Ive had in a while. It really stood out as three waiter took the time to explain the menu and dishes. Ill probably be eating here very often!

2021-12-30Staff were super attentive and friendly, offering to explain any and all items on the menu if we had any questions. We had bao buns and then a bowl of ramen, both of which were delicious. I ordered bean sprouts as an addition to my ramen, and my daughter ordered an extra soft-boiled egg with hers. Modifications are no problem! We also asked for extra spice and were brought two different options which we could try out. Our server checked on us multiple times during our meal to make sure we had everything we needed. All in all it was a great experience and I would highly recommend Hoshi Ramen!

2022-02-03The atmosphere is welcoming and calm. The wait staff know their food inside and out so dont feel sheepish asking questions! And their food is to die for! Especially the eggs! If you can eat eggs, know theyre marinated in something secret known only to the chefs that make the egg white firm but yummy and the yolk look just like jelly! And the taste? Its nothing like I can ever describe! But its really tasty!! Also, the female bathrooms have a full changing table for your comfort caregivers! This place has great selection and authenticity mixed with modernism that youll come to enjoy!

2022-05-22Adorable little gem that has a nice variety of food and excellent staff. Id never eaten Japanese food before and struggled a bit with the menu and pronunciation, and our waitress was so friendly and happy to make recommendations. Food was served promptly and absolutely amazing. The meat was succulent and so tender it could literally be cut with a chopstick. Prices were very reasonable, and the staff even had Spirited Away playing on a TV so our table had a good time watching that in between mouthfuls of food. :) We we will absolutely be back.

2022-05-14This plate is incredible. The bao buns are delicious. The tantanmen and tonkotus both are really flavorful! Just an excellent environment with great staff. Sam was great as a waiter. Highly recommend.
