We have stayed here multiple times since it opened. Beds are comfortable. Sheets are not great. Comforter cozy. Better selection for breakfast than before. Appreciate they are dog friendly. Like the advanced check-in but itβs only good for 24 hours so check your email. Itβs always busy - be sure to get reservations in advance.
We stayed here to be closer to OU for a tour of the campus and Im really happy with that choice. It was close to campus, there were plenty of restaurants and shopping very nearby. The room and bathroom was very clean. The beds were comfortable. Staff was great, breakfast was great and hot tub/pool area was great. If my son decides to go to OU, you will see me here for future visits.
I was just in town for a few days to do a testing job at the local natural gas pump station. The staff was quick to help check me in and when I needed to add another day to my stay, they were more than happy to assist. The room was your typical two bed room with nice amenities for a short stay. I would stay here again in the future if the need would arise.
With very few quality hotels in Athens, its nice to know there is a Holiday Inn Express. Overall the hotel is excellent and clean. Breakfast was plentyful and hot. There are a few things in need of attention.First, the pool and hot tub are both in dire need of repairs. They are both peeling the lining/paint. Also, the hot tub jets are not working properly. It might be a costly repair but its necessary I think because they are not up to Holiday Inn Express Standards in my book.Second, a couple times as we entered our room we smelled sewer gas. I dont know if it was coming from the toilet, sink or shower. It was pretty nasty and forced us to turn on the air condition on a cold day just to get the smell out.Third, the shower curtain had pink mildew on it and really needed to be either washed or changed. Fourth, it was obvious the small bottle of body lotion had been used by a previous guess and left, rathe than switching it out. That was pretty gross. With that being said, I will still stay here again but I hope changes are made.
Did not get the room on the first floor as promised. 3 rd floor suite was available. Lack of towels. 2 bath towels for a suite does not seem right. Will ask for more towels asap. Could also use more clothes hanging space. Seems to an area where a pole or hooks can easily be put in to accommodate families in a suite. Food service very good, staff very friendly and helpful.
Our stay was good. It was peaceful, with the exception of a yapping little dog you could hear through the hallway. The breakfast was a typical continental hotel breakfast. All staff was very nice, friendly, and helpful. This is a decent place to stay. It has my recommendation.
I went to visit family that doesnt have extra room to stay overnight so we got a room at Holiday Inn Express. It was clean, quiet and quite nice. The bathroom was clorox clean and the beds were very comfortable. The choices for breakfast had such a wide range, no one would leave hungry unless they chose to.
When I got into my first room, I couldnt take a breath without thinking about air quality, it smelled strongly like mildew. I called the front desk and asked if they have the availability to switch me to another room. They were incredibly prompt and friendly (no complaints at all about the staff), and had me move across the hall. Better, but still not great. The hotel was otherwise clean, though outdated. Mostly, I felt that it was an $80-90 hotel that I paid $140 for :/Chose a different hotel in the same price range on the way back up and had a much better experience (though again, the staff at Holiday Inn Athens were really lovely).
My stay at this hotel was wonderful, with a very easy and quick check-in process. I was surprised and happy that the breakfast choices were numerous and very good. I also have to say that they have very good brewed coffee and it is always fresh. I will request this hotel on my next business trip.
Pretty good. Like I said in my previous review the elevator is slow and the craftsmanship is very lacking along with practically no place to put towels which you must reuse throughout your stay.Breakfast nothing to write about but at least its available now!Would go back no question.
We stayed with our two young children. Excellent! Very clean, great lighting, helpful staff. Pool was nice and warm and the hot tub was amazing. Great breakfast. There is a CVS and Applebeeβs next door and a great park with a rock garden, skate park, and playground. We were very happy with our experience.
Hotel for the most part is what you can expect from a HIE. Clean and well maintained. Check in was smooth even with having two reservations. The housekeeping staff are in a hurry to get you to leave the next morning tho. Check out is noon. They were at our door by 9 am checking on us to see if we were ready to leave. I let her know that wed be gone by check out time, and placed the do not disturb sign on the door. By 10:30 am, the same housekeeper came knocking again! I understand they have a job to do, but shouldnt the comfort and hospitality towards the guest come first? Also had issues with the alarm clock in the next room going off for over an hour. Each of these issues were met with a promise of loading bonus points to my account. Yeah, never saw that...
Positive: The hotel was very clean and in great condition. The staff was friendly and efficient. The breakfast was above expectations. I was allowed to plug in my EV in front of the hotel. Negative: The fire alarm sounded twice while I was in residence. The first time was about 9:45 pm and the second was at 6:20 am! I inquired at the front desk and was told it was caused by shower steam! They need to fix that.
Have now stayed at this property twice in the past 4 months. Service has been consistent. Friendly and helpful staff. Convenient location and like that this location has continued to offer breakfasts - in a safe manner - while other hotels have elected to stop offering these services during Covid. I appreciate the extra effort this location has made to continue this service for its guests.
We love staying here when we visit our family who live closer to McArthur. The rooms are clean. I would like the little personal shampoo and conditioner, rather than the pump that others that have stayed in this room before me, have touched. I know they sanitize them, but I have germ fears and I donβt like touched things that have been touched by others. Covid-19 has caused a lot of sickness and itβs all because of other people not practicing good manners, like covering their mouths and washing their hands.
I choose Athens off a map as a convenient place to stay while I visited nearby attractions. I had no clue what to expect but found the town to be charming and this Holiday Inn to be wonderful! The hotel is conveniently located and seemingly everyone on staff was friendly. The rooms were clean and comfortable, easy to get a good nights sleep. From my experience it is easy to recommend this location to any traveler!
I chose this hotel over a comparable competitor because I was traveling with my dogs and their pet fee was lower. When I checked in, surprise, the pet fee was twice as much as the competitor and triple what was listed when I made the reservation a month before. When I reached out to customer service they said their pet fee had recently changed. No apology, no fixing it, and apparently no obligation to inform customers of fee changes. On top of that, the room was not clean and smelled horrible. You would think their dog cleaning fee would actually mean a clean room. Not so much! The only nice thing I have to say is that the front desk staff was extremely friendly.
Everyone who stays the night at a hotel values something different. For some, its location. Others value amenities or food. But every single person wants one thing: a good place to sleep. This hotel is not that. It is very noisy. Not from guests being obnoxious, just routine behaviors, road noise, etc. Also, they made the bed with dirty sheets and made me strip and remake my own bed! This isnt a fantasy labor camp stay - its a hotel where I paid for services and a quiet room. Do not recommend.
We stopped in Athens as it was the halfway point for our trip. The front desk crew were very welcoming and helpful. However, our room was less than expected. There was a musty smell upon opening the door. You got used to it after awhile, but it was definitely there every time you left and came back in. The room was large but had very little in it ( mint even a picture on the wall) creating an echo. The sink didnβt drain well and there was a large rust stain in the bottom of the tub. The water pressure in the shower was really good though.
Needed a place to stay at the midway point of a trip in our car. The staff was fantastic. The breakfast was convenient. We did have an issue at 2:00am when we were woke up by an extremely loud party in the pool. It took a while to get it resolved, but we were eventually able to get back to sleep. The manager spoke with us on the way out and was just as upset about the incident as we were. She was very polite and resolved the issue to our satisfaction. Other than that our stay was fantastic.
We came to visit hocking hills and chose to stay here. It was about 40-45 minutes from hocking hills as a lot of the hotels closer were booked due to Labor Day weekend. Not the most convenient place BUT no fault of the hotel. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfy, the pillows were down. The front desk was very accommodating about early check in and getting a crib for my one year old son. No complaints with breakfast. Simple but delicious. They are serving to you due to covid but have a decent selection. The hotel appeared clean and modern and well maintained. Hand sanitizing stations at public areas were a nice plus. I was very disappointed in the pool. The water appeared cloudy in both the pool and the hot tub. The pool is not heated and was quite cold. Which I understand not all pools are, it wasnβt unbearable by any means. However, the hot tub was the temperature of a heated pool. Except you know....itβs a hot tub. So, when you advertise the amenities and people end up here for said amenities and are met with a sub par experience, it dampens the overall stay. Hopefully they have corrected these issues for future guests. I hate to even have to put that part in there but alas, itβs true. Staff were very kind. Very accommodating. Rooms and beds again, great. Assuming the pool and hot tub situation are corrected, I would definitely stay here again,
We visited Athens for the first time to purchase a vehicle from Don Wood Ford. Drove 6 hours to pick up. We were tired and ready to relax when we got there. Easy check-in. Room was very nice and comfortable. We would stay again...if there is ever a need to do so. Ha!
There are not many places to stay in this area. Although this hotel appears a bit dated, it was clean. We were not traveling with dogs, but did notice the dog park, behind the hotel and the available dog poop bags, by the exit. The continental breakfast was βokayβ. We slept well, as the area was quiet. The reception was cordial in their welcome . It did appear a bit unprofessional to be greeted by someone who was exhaling their e-cigarette, as they came inside to check us in.Overall, it was a good experience.
Upon arrival, though I had booked 2 rooms for myself and other family members well in advance, we were sent to opposite ends of the hallway. I was sent to an adjoining room next to college age boys. All of the rooms surrounding me were filled with college boys. They were loud, drinking, and using profanity throughout the hallway and in the room next to me. I needed to pack up all of my belongings again and move my room at 11:15pm to another room to get away from the ruckus. And wouldnt you know it..the same clerk moved me right next to my familys room down the other end of the hallway!!!!I didnt get hardly any sleep that night and dont feel like I should have had to pay anything for the room.
The room was dirty. I wiped up spilled water on the bathroom floor and the towel came up black. Our feet/socks were filthy walking in the room. I requested help cleaning and was first told that they would not because I hadnt requested the service the previous day despite, then when I insisted, they said it would be done. But no one ever came.. i requested housekeeping by the deadline on day 2, and they still didnt come. Given the dust and hair in the rest of the room, it was obvious theyre not following their promised cleaning processes. Charging ports were broken. Killed lots of bugs. There was a dog in the room across the hall that barked for hours. It was a very bad experience and will not be staying again.
We enjoyed the service and amenities. The only issue we had was with upkeep of the pool and hot tub. It didnt seem to be well cleaned, but when brought to staffs attention they made an effort correct the issue. Decent variety of hot continental breakfast and spread of options. We will be staying again in the future.
Front desk quickly replied to my requests for extra towels and pool towels. Decent breakfast but look forward to open buffet line. Enjoyed the pool for a good stretch after a long drive. Slept well.Expect to use this as our home base if our son enrolls at Ohio University.
The staff was awesome. We showed up wet from a rainy motorcycle ride to the hotel. To make the moment better, they offered a free upgrade to a suite. They also allowed us to park our motorcycle under the car port for safety reasons. The only real complaint I have is the bad tasting cheese in the breakfast omelette. Yuck!
Great stay, comfortable bed, reasonably clean room. Just wish they would clean one of the most used areas in the hotel. THE ELEVATOR. I can clearly see fingerprints on the panel. This went on ALL WEEK and nobody (hotel staff) saw it? Also, I dont want to see everyones dirty towels thrown outside their doors. This wasnt by the occupants, the hotel staff did it. People do stay on the third floor!
This inn was a good stopping point on our travels. It was easy to locate and reach. The staff went out of their way to make the stay enjoyable and problem free. The room was clean and the bathroom facilities were good for those needing a roll in shower. The breakfast was handled by a server, which allowed us to keep a safe distance. She handled our order in a professional manner, with just the right amount served per person.
Shower has large pump-type shampoo bottles locked in the wall. That makes so much more sense than those single serving bottles! Good plan Holiday Inn! Check in was easy. Check out even easier. Room had a mini fridge, Keurig, and microwave. Breakfast was great. Probably pandemic protocol, but the breakfast room was operated by an employee who prepared and handed it to you. Great amount of brown sugar in my oatmeal. Biscuits with gravy were tasty and fluffy. Expectations exceeded. By the way, the bathroom doorstop in room 211 could use maintenence.
The hotel was wonderful. I came for a wedding. Being a housekeeper for a hotel for 4 years before; i came in checking the room looking for it to have been done wrong. The room was cleaned very well. Couldnt find any dust dirt or hair. The staff was so wonderful. Breakfast was super suprising. Everyone their for the wedding was expecting breakfast to be bland tasteless and not filling. However it was super delicious, had several choices, and the staff keep bringing out more food every 10 mins to make sure there was enough. It was always hot fresh and great. Which was wondeful because the bridal party had to go almost 10 hours between breakfast and the dinner. Honestly my oy complaint after being in heals for 12 hours was that the hot tub jets didnt work. Everything else was amazing.
Weve stayed at this hotel a few times now. It is located on the side of town where more restaurants and shops are located. Easy got get on and off highway. The river trail runs right behind the hotel. Maybe youll get lucky to get a room which overlooks the door park! Great staff and amenities. Breakfast was less than desired because of COVID.
The hotel is clean , breakfast was good ! We chose this hotel due to it having a pool and hottub . We did not get to access it as there were people in there that were not on the schedule . When front desk confronted these people they still stayed in . I feel they should have enforced the rules . When we enter the pool area These people are quite rude to us as we βtold on them β and continued to try to argue with me . So I left. I needed the hot tub to relax my muscles due to recent total knee replacement so this was the reason I paid extra to stay here instead of somewhere else .
It was adequate -- clean but outdated. The mini refrigerator was making a high pitch whining sound (we had to unplug it), the USB outlet between the beds was broken. Needs a little TLC but fine enough for a quick stay. There are a few restaurants within walking distance and located next to a park.
I decided on this place at the last minute on my honeymoon and couldnt have been any happier. First off, the location is great and was close to everything in the area. The hotel is modern and very well maintained which is true for the rooms as well. Im in property maintenance so I tend to notice more than the average person so that says a lot. This is the first hotel Ive stayed at since Covid and its obvious extra precautions are in place. This was also a big relief for us. Staff was friendly and helpful and beds were up to par with the very best. We will be back to see some of the state parks that we missed and will definitely be staying at Holiday Inn again. Safe travels-
Ive already written a review, but I guess it wasnt posted. My family and I had a terrible stay due to how unclean the floor was in our king suite. My toddlers feet was covered in dirt in less than five minutes. Our socks are now stained. It was bad. We paid extra for a suite and we were even made to wait during check-in to clean the room. But it was clear that the room hadnt been cleaned or prepared for a while. We even requested a new room, but they said there were none available so we had to make due. It was a horror experience and will never stay at this property in Athens again.
Let me start by saying that I stayed at this hotel last year for the same reason, my sonβs birthday. Last year I was treated so well that I decided to stay again this year but was treated the complete opposite. Last year the staff was very accommodating, friendly, and helpful. In fact, not only did we have more friends come and visit(not stay overnight), but there were several other birthday parties in the building who were all, like myself, treated with excellent service. When I checked in this year, I informed the staff that I would have about 4-5 boys, ages 7/8, staying the night and since they were not at capacity (as per the staff) to go ahead and place me away from other guests so that the boys wouldnβt disturb any other guests. Well, not only was I placed in a room right by the elevator, but also near several other guests. I was later told by one of the moms dropping off her son that I had somehow offended the staff bc apparently they donβt look well upon people asking for pool towels to be refilled when there are none available because there are like 10 other people already at the pool.We also were not welcome to eat in the eating area well before quiet hours. Go figure!!I could go on and on about how rude the staff was to us during our stay but I will just say that my stay was rounded off with the staff threatening to call the police on me and a group of 7 year old boys who were simply having fun playing video games in our room. I thought this would be a great annual stay but, needless to say we will not be staying here again.
NIce hotel, price is competitive with other similar chains. Breakfast is decent, convenient hours and adequate seating. Has easy access business center but we did not use it. Very close to interstate, easy off-on. Good selection of cheap restaurants around since this is a college town
First we were sent to a room that was used and not cleaned yet. When we went back down to get a new room they said they would upgrade us to a king executive suite, which was great but that is what we already paid for. So we were never upgraded or compensated in any other way. We are most likely not going to return to this location during our next visits.
I want to give a shout out to Alison for making my stay great! I was a little high maintenance on a room preference based on my previous stay and she worked with me to make this happen. THANK YOU!This hotel is in a great location, near many restaurants, and a short drive or walk to Ohio University Campus. I have stayed here several times now and will continue to stay here when I return.
My car broke down on arrival date and had to reschedule. They worked with me to ensure I wasnβt charge. Showed up early the next morning and they were prepared like they were expecting me early. Definitely βwowedβ me by their service! Great location and although our room could have been refreshed, it was very clean and comfortable. Highly recommend!
Ive stayed here a few times for work and everything is on the up and up except they allowed this ear shrieking alarm to go off in the middle of the night 3 times. I thought, theres no way they could mess up and allow this to happen again. Just happened. If you had this alarm wake you up youd absolutely understand the 1 star review. Again, if this wouldnt bother you then everything else is basic enough.
Upon checking in to our hotel, my fiancΓ© and I were very impressed with how polite and attentive the gentleman at the front desk was to us; even with the hour being what it was. Our room was right beside the lobby, which was great, and when we went in i couldnt get the smile off my face. Not only was it clean it was also very well decorated. The lighting was refreshing and the beds were WOW so comfortable! We slept so great and the shower I had the next morning made me want to stay in that bathroom forever. This Holiday Inn should be the standard for how other hotels should be for their guests. Thank you for a great night!
Other than guests who were smoking by the entrance and salty eggs for breakfast my stay was great. My room was spotless and I was very comfortable. The jacuzzi was very soothhing after a long road trip. The staff were all friendly and I would definitely stay again. As a matter of fact this is where Iβll be staying every time i come to the area.
Friendly and inviting hotel staff that went the extra mile to make our stay feel more like home. Hot breakfast served with all the distancing precautions in place. I travel an average of two weeks a month and my recent stay here was the most pleasant experience in several years. Thank you so much to the staff, you did an amazing job.
Average stay.Beds were comfy with really nice water pressure in showers. However upon check in we werenβt informed of what was and wasnβt open such as the pool and had to discover ourselves as well as the breakfast times werenβt told so we missed breakfast unfortunately. Also, when arriving upon our room the door wasnβt fully closed all the way which made me a bit nervous to enter. After entering the room we found our remote to have no batteries in it and our tissue box holder with no tissues in it. I will say after letting front desk know about the no batteries someone did come up rather quickly with some.I would stay again but would love to be more informed when checking in of things and room to be completely stocked upon arrival.
Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are comfortable. Bed sleeps well. Furniture in room not particularly comfortable but consistent across all HIE Hotels. Could use some gluten-free breakfast options. I recommend this property. It is always consistent which is great. We stay here a couple of times a year to and from our destination. Nice the staff remembers us from time-to-time.
This Hotel is fantastic. Let me start by giving Keeley at the front desk a glowing review personally. She was kind and attentive. She was professional and helped us with everything we needed. She even let my kids get some apple juice after the breakfast area was closed just to help make them happy. More hotels could use people like her.As for the hotel itself, it looked like it was just remodeled. The room we stayed in had vaulted ceilings and had an incredibly up-to-date look, unlike a lot of hotels. The beds were beyond comfortable. My kids liked it so much they wanted to cancel our vacation and just stay in the hotel there the entire week. Also, the continental breakfast, which I normally roll my eyes at, was delicious. They had fresh baked cinnamon rolls, 2 different types of omelette, as well as everything else a normal continental breakfast would have.Even though we were just passing through, weβll make an effort to stay here anytime weβre heading south on vacation.
Our daughter was moving into OU as a freshman. We had not made plans to spend the night and last minute she decided she wanted us to stay. I contacted the Holiday Inn Express where we have stayed before and they made an effort to make sure we had a room. Most places were booked due to families spending the weekend helping their kids move in. The front desk staff were helpful, pleasant and very accommodating. The room was very nice and as usual the beds and pillows were so comfortable. We really like this hotel and the staff there and will definitely be staying again!
We stay at a lot of holiday inns. This was by far the worst Iβve stayed at. It looked nice and updated at first glance, but it was rough around the edges, not clean, and just didnβt feel like most of the holiday inns Iβve stayed at. The bed was awful and the mattresses were completely worn out and old. The bathroom was not clean, there was used and open bar soap in the bathroom. The room had a mildew smell when we arrived and they left the ozone air cleaner in the room. That I ended up taking down to the front desk. All that aside, I was looking forward to the hot breakfast before continuing on our road trip, but even that was a letdown. The food was barely warm and just not good. At least the cereal was good. The staff was friendly and the reason for it not being a 1 star.
Clean. The most comfortable hotel bed ive ever slept in. Most hotel beds make my back hurt tremendously.. this one only made it hurt a tiny bit. My girlfriend lived for the hot fresh breakfast. Its a rare thing now due to covid. The pool towels are super tiny and the hot tub *the thing i live for* was broken. Staff was friendly
The price was $111 for a weeknight and $115 for a weekend night, which seems a bit high due to a couple issues. It was clean and modern. Loved the indirect uplighting. The curtains have been replaced with sun filtering blinds and a room darkening blind. I like the change from something not easily cleaned to something more flexible. Dislikes: others have mentioned the noise. If you are noise intolerant, this is not your place. Thin walls and no insulation seem an issue. We heard kids screaming, conversations, and running in halls. Overall, comparing Ohio Inn and this place= Holiday Inn is cleaning and has less of a college bar crowd.
Pre package frozen omelette was terrible. Coffee was so weak you could see the bottom of your cup. The AC/heating unit had no controls so we had to unplug it.The room was clean with a comfortable bed. The staff was pleasant and nice. Easy access from the freeway with a short walk to Applebees for dinner.
Hotels in the US are owned by a small number of companies. As properties age, they are often bought by competing companies who rehab the property and bump it down a level. The guest room we had obviously had been rehabbed. The couch was in an awkward space, and was broken. But the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Although; we like furry pets we do not like them in the hotels we stay in. The room was clean except the dog or cat hair in the chairs and on the floor. It was in our clothes and socks. My opinion I would not except pets because of the reasons I expressed and people could be allergic or have hair in there food if its brought back.
The greeting received from the staff was very professional and made you feel at home. The beds were very comfortable after you got into them, they were just a little difficult getting in and out of due to their height. The food choices were excellent and whenever running low, the staff was on top of replenishing that item. Maybe having a waffle iron to be used would enhance the variety of items being served. The pancake machine was an excellent idea and was also a novelty item for the children staying at the facility. Access to the major roads in the area made getting around very easy and a plus in getting to where I needed to go.
I have stayed here twice. The last time in August of 2020 was okay. We had to change rooms because the A/C in ours was broken and there was a strong must smell. The hallways had an unpleasant odor. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was good despite COVID protocol. This is a renovated hotel that still looks old in some places. Do not confuse this location with a brand new Holiday Inn Express and Suites.
Im not one to typically take the time to write a review, but my entire family was impressed and commented on the lovely stay. When we were looking for a hotel we decided on Holiday Inn because it would best accomodate our family needs in comparison to all the other hotels in the area. Holiday Inn was able to perfectly meet my request and on top of that the price was great! The entire family loved how the rooms were furnished and were arranged, and everyone slept great which doesnt happen too often for my wife and I when out of town with four boys. Additionally we enjoyed the pool area and we were impressed by the variety of equipment in the mini gym. Also the complimentary breakfast was very good, with options for everyone and of a good quality. Lasty, checkout was a breeze with the express checkout option.
The room was very clean but I also sprayed down hard surfaces with disinfectant because Iβm immunocompromised. The bed and the pillows were super comfortable. I appreciated the variety of pillows to choose from. I made use of the refrigerator and microwave so Iβm glad those were available. Overall a great experience.
Our stay was due to our son moving out of his college dorm early due to the COVID-19 epidemic. We had our special needs son with us this trip. The front desk staff of Julie Rowan and Ashley White made this stay as perfect as it could be. They were so customer service oriented. I have no never had any hotel staff anywhere treat our family (especially our special needs son) so nice as these ladies did during our stay. I am a long standing rewards member at another hotel brand and this recent stay at the Holiday Inn in Athens, Ohio made me switch to IHG first and foremost when booking a hotel. I hope that Ms. Rowan and Ms. White receive some sort of accolades from IHG because they deserve it! Cant wait to stay again when life returns back to some sense of normalcy after the epidemic is over.
Everything we are used to with an IHG Property - Friendly Staff, Clean, Excellent Service but the noise from the pool area was extremely loud. We had a room directly above the pool and we could hear the quietest of conversations echoing in our room. And every time the hot tub turned on it would also echo in our room. Never had this experience before... very odd
I love it! Everything about it here is very comfortable. The beds were not too soft not too hard just perfect. The showers are amazing and the bathrooms were clean which was nice. The whole room is very clean. In the middle of the night when I was craving chocolate I went downstairs to the main desk the was a mini store and a hot chocolate stand which was very good and the front desk clerk Joseph was very kind and helpful! He made me feel at home. So thank you Joseph! I have no complaints. Also very happy with the Keurig in the room
This hotel was in a great location and was very affordable. The staff was very friendly and the place was clean and updated. My only issue was our room was next to the housekeeping closet, which woke us up bright and early every morning. But the room was very clean and spacious.
Hands down the best hotel for OU parents to return to over and over while their student attends OU. We were fortunate to find this place early during our sons OU four year stay and were consistently delighted to stay there. As a hotel manager for the past 4 years, Julie is truly superb. Give her a request before, during, or after a stay and it will get attended to. The quietest rooms are on the top floor facing the dog park in the back of the hotel. Great for pets, especially dogs with the dog park out back of the hotel. The only time we would stay elsewhere is when this hotel was sold out. The other hotels in Athens were not up to par with this property. Thanks, Julie and your staff, for numerous excellent stays!!
Not our usual experience at Holiday Inn Express. Room had not been cleaned, coffee maker water was red. Dirty towel in bathroom. Carpet not vacuumed. Paper not flushed in toilet. The receptionist was exceptional in making sure things were corrected and that we were refunded our points. We will use Holiday Inn Express again, mostly due to the receptionist doing her party.
After many days preparing to move and then making a long drive, the staff at HIE made sure we were given a quiet place to rest. Our belongings were parked in the most secure location they could offer (by the front door) which in turn gave us a much needed worry free night.
This was a very clean and comfortable hotel. The staff was very friendly and I really appreciated having a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and extra sink in the room. The sheets and beds were cozy and the suite with the couch gave us the extra space this family of four really appreciated and enjoyed having. The pool was clean and inviting. The grounds were well kept and it was nice being able to take our dog out a side door where there was a great area to walk her. The cookies and coffee in the lobby was a nice touch that gives this hotel an edge over others we have stayed in. The location was super and our overall stay was pleasurable.
I had not traveled with a pet in many years, so I wasnt sure what to expect from a pet-friendly hotel. One of the first things Ashley, the hotel manager, said to me was, We love pups here! The hotel grounds are set up perfectly for walking your dog, and there is a dog-park next door.My room was clean and comfortable and on the first floor for easy access to the outside. Breakfast was delicious. All staff members were friendly. I will definitely stay there again!
Weve stayed at this hotel on multiple occasions, as its a great half-way point for us while traveling. Theres a specific room we like, which works well for our family. I wasnt able to contact Holiday Inn in Athens directly to schedule my reservation, as their listed number wasnt working. As a result I scheduled my reservation directly through Holiday Inn. I booked the exact room I wanted, but was informed upon check-in that the room was not available. Considering we traveled 9 hours for this specific room, that news was an inconvenience and very upsetting. The hotel was under renovation, so the lobby and breakfast area were under construction. The make-do breakfast area worked out fine, and the staff was accommodating and helpful. My biggest compliant would be the options. It was your typical hotel breakfast which was high in carbs and lacking healthy options. Thankfully there was yogurt to provide quality substance. The bathroom towels were very soft but our bathroom could have been cleaner upon check-in. When arriving at the hotel it was 5 degrees outside. Our room was freezing upon arrival at the heat was unplugged. It wasnt a big deal since we plugged it back it, but it did take some time to heat up the room before putting my kids to bed.
Hotel stay was relaxing. Theyβve made multiple strides to take care of guests during COVID. I appreciated a hot breakfast when other hotels have abandoned this service all together. As an added bonus if you have dogs, thereβs waste bags by both side exits and best of all a great dog park right behind the hotel. Would definitely stay here again.
We had a wonderful night stay. The bed was extremely comfortable. Top-of-the-line mattress. The pillows and blankets were great. The room was very clean. Also, the workers in the hotel weβre very proud of. We were missing a few pillows and they brought them up right awa
My husband and I stayed there because we had foster care classes in athens to attend. It was right across the street from our class. The beds were awesome. The bathroom is huge. I could not believe how big the bathroom was. The room was spacious. Small pool but loved the hot tub. Breakfast was good. I did not like rubbery eggs we had sat morning. Everything else was lovely. Loved the cinnamon rolls in the lobby! Yum! That was a nice treat. Very nice hotel. Much better than most of the holiday inns that Ive stayed at before.
We were in Athens for a family visit. We travel with a small dog and prefer room with grab bars and other accessible features. Our room was great and met all of our needs. The room was easily accessible to the outside and a great park (with a dog park!) for dog walking. The room was wheelchair accessible (which is more than we need), comfortable and safe. Staff was friendly and helpful and hotel location was central to amenities and easy on and off the highway. We will stay here again!
Even when pulling up to the hotel- there were a lot of people just hanging around the hotel that didnβt look like guests. The hotel check-in service was very quick and friendly but the hotel smelled very musty. On the way to our room there were multiple doors open to the rooms with what looked like were unoccupied and there wasnβt a cleaning service near as if they were open for cleaning service. During this time of COVID- I also didnβt like the community shampoos and soaps in the bathrooms. We left super early in the morning to get on the road and there was a bloody towel just sitting in the hallway.I just didnβt feel like cleanliness was their top priority when this time should be on high alert!
Clean and comfortable. Breakfast was kept fresh and readily available. Our interaction with staff members was always friendly. Only concern was that our AC leaked and kept our floor around the unit wet for our entire stay. We assumed the hotel was aware since the window was open to air out the room when we arrived.
I dont go out of my way to write reviews at IHG hotels, but this place consistently provides exceptional guest service. I travel for work and whether Ive stayed here alone, with my wife, with or without our small dog, staff has ALWAYS been super accommodating (e.g. request room on back-side of property overlooking dog park vs front side, room with 2 queen beds vs 1 king. etc.). So many times at other places I wonder, does anyone understand good customer service anymore? Here, it is evident they intentionally work as a team (all shifts, morning, noon, night) to provide consistently exceptional guest service. If you need anything, dont hesitate to ask them -- they will actually do what they can to help accommodate. Also, the hotel is one of Holiday Inn Express more clean and modern/Euro style rooms, which I personally like. When you have to travel, if you want a great stay, I recommend this hotel hands down. Tons of dining options nearby to boot.
My stay was ok. Room was pretty clean, and hotel In general. Parking was fine, self-parking. location was decent next to CVS. Weight-room and pool were nice. Only problem, was the room I reserved (1 king) and the room I was given ( 2 queen beds), because the hotel was booked and we checked in later than everyone else. So what was the purpose of reserving a one king room right. Other than that. stay was cool.
Staying with my family of four. Room is hot and called down stairs to let them know and they said to unplug our furnace. Not helpful at all!! receptionist called our room right after to ask if I was the one who brought a bunch of guys to our room! Very unprofessional. Ten minutes later she comes knocking on our door to say there was noise complaints. We were in bed . Found Dr Pepper in our fridge from the people before us. Will not be back!
I was moving in from another state and had to park a big moving trailer, they were very accommodating about that. Clean nice rooms, amazing breakfast buffet in the morning that actually had real food. Best of all the price was incredibly reasonable. We were traveling with our cat so it was nice that they allowed her to stay with us (for a deposit fee of course). Really great stay.
This hotel is great. We arrived much later than planned and the staff was incredibly accommodating! Breakfast was set up a little early and they let us eat before 6:00 am. The beds are super comfy and the pillowcases state if the pillow is soft or firm, which was awesome. The pool was really nice. The breakfast had a huge variety; easily the best Ive ever had. It was such a hectic weekend (we were there for a wedding) and the hotel was such a nice place to come back to.
Checking in was a breeze and very refreshing since we had been on the road for 3 hours. The check out was awful, no receipt and no way to give me one. I had to leave on faith that they would email it to me. The hot tub was all I wanted once we got there. It was not hot, a few of the jets were busted and water was spraying in all directions. The breakfast was disappointing. The pancake station was broken and so all my 10 year old daughter wanted was cold cereal since she doesnt like omelets. The price was high for the experience. It made me feel like I was taken advantage of for the quality of my stay.
Great and Friendly Service, comfortable beds, the property looks to be recently updated (nicely done), a great hotel overall. If I could give any suggestions they really need to work on their hot breakfast selections and their fire alarm which unfortunately went off four times in two days, however it was due to things that were out of their control (guest not doing what they are suppose too). They could also work on their hot water for the showers - it was not consistent (one minute it was hot and the next minute it was cold, but not in every room) - not sure why. But for the money this is a nice hotel I and great choice!
I had a great stay! Hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. Bedding was clean and comfortable which allowed me to be well rested. The breakfast bar was on point, lots of options to get your morning off to a great start. The veggie omelet and the turkey sausage was totally a gamegwinner in my opinion. I will always choose Holiday Inn Express when I stay away from home!
Checked in to a king suite for one night and had the best sleep in a hotel that Iβve had in a very long time. My main concern with any hotel is the bed and this one was almost perfect. Not too soft and not hard as a rock. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. The room was clean and the bathroom spotless. Awesome job Athens staff!
Great hotel, room was clean and well put together with ample storage room and good flow. Every request was quickly addressed. Breakfast was better than average, but my only complaint is that I witnessed the breakfast lady be rude to two separate guests on two different occasions the morning I was leaving. I didnt say anything but I should have... Other than that, everything was good!
This hotel was fantastic until the smoke alarm went off multiple times our second night there. The staff said its a normal occurrence. If the smoke alarms were sorted, this hotel would be just about perfect. The rooms were great and felt recently updated, and the breakfast was very good.
The hotel was really nice, with friendly staff. The rooms were very clean, decorated really nice and the beds were really comfy. The only complaint that we had is that they started doing construction on the 2 rooms across from ours at 8:15am Saturday morning. Not the way you would want to wake up after being out late Friday night. The breakfast in the morning was really good as well. Loved the egg white omelets.
The staff was terrific, and welcomed us with lots of information on how they are staying safe and keeping customers safe. Very friendly and certainly understand and demonstrate great customer service. Breakfast was great and again, given the challenges with COVID did a wonderful job of distancing and cleanliness.
The staff is absolutely amazing! They are always extremely professional and welcoming. The staff honestly makes the experience great each and very time. They greet me with a smile and remember details about what I prefer in a room. They are never too busy to help me and often go above and beyond. They are an asset to my stay and alot of the reason I keep coming back. The rooms are spacious, the bed is extremely comfortable and very clean. Thank you for a great experience.
I would have said 5 star, but girl at front desk was very unfriendly and judgmental immediately upon arrival. Placed cards on desk instead of handing them to me and Never once smiled. For assistant manager, kind of sad when customer service is your job. Also, work being done on pool, which no one bothered to mention. However, facility was beautiful and room was exceptional! Remodeling was gorgeous and breakfast was awesome.
Overall good stay at Holiday Inn Athens. My stay occurred during renovation of the breakfast area but every effort was made to ensure that guests had a reasonable dining experience despite this. Breakfast was on par with what I expect from Holiday Inn, actually a little better than some of the other HIE locations I have been to. Quality of the room was acceptable and I liked the option of a larger suite with pull out sofa, which not all hotels offer. My only complaint was that not enough towels were supplied for amount of guests listed on reservation, and bathtub drain did not function as a stopper for tub use, which is very inconvenient for young children (I bathed my 3-year-old in the sink). Otherwise the stay was good and I would stay again if I am in the area.
My husband and I came into town just for the night and needed a pet friendly hotel for our dog. The price was fair compared to other hotels in the area. If we were staying longer maybe I would have requested a larger room but even for the regular room with a king sized bed, it was quite large! Plenty of room for our dogs crate. We had two friends stop by and there were two extra chairs for them to sit and relax. They had also commented they were paying more for their smaller room at a hotel down the street. You would never know they were pet friendly- no pet odor, rooms were clean. Bathrooms were large. Room had a nice sized mini fridge. It was a very comfortable stay. Only comment is that we could hear the dog in the room across from us in the morning when they were leaving room...I wouldnt say the walls are thin but when it was quiet early in the morning there was a faint sound of other people moving around that woke our dog. Overall, great stay.
While the price I felt was way high, we had an absolutely wonderful stay. The room was fresh, clean, modern and had very luxurious amenities. The hotel had lots of amenities. It was close to everything. The staff were amazing. The bed and pillows and everything was super comfy, and the staff could not have been greater. We will definitely be staying here again. Thank you for a wonderful, luxurious stay. We especially appreciated your courtesy to our darling pets. We liked the fact a dog park was right there, too!!
The room was a bit on the expensive side due to high demand for an event that was occurring over the weekend. That said, the rooms were not very clean--webs on the lampshades, grime and webs on the vent in the bathroom, and a cockroach in the bathroom. Our room was on the first floor with a decent view of some greenery behind the hotel. The beds were relatively comfortable and the air conditioning kept the room nice and cool overnight. Staff were very nice and pleasant but some guests were inconsiderate and made noise late into the night or brought their barking dogs through the hallways late at night and early in the morning. Overall not the worst possible place for a last minute overnight stay, but not great.
Friendly employees greet you as soon as you walk through the door. Parking isnt too bad and the elevator was quick. The breakfast was surprisingly good. The veggie omelets were delicious. Give them a try, even if its not your thing. The only complaints my wife and I had were small. An adult only floor would have been nice. The shower could have been a bit more clean and the bed was a bit clunky. We were there on leisure, the bed and shower were most important. ;-) I would stay here, again. It was very nice and a convenient place to stay.
Very impressed. We frequently are disappointed when we travel and try to find dog friendly hotels. This is one of the pleasant exceptions. The room was clean and kept very well. Breakfast was good and the staff we came in contact with were all very friendly and helpful. The hotel was convenient to restaurants. Wed stay there again if we go back to the Athens area without a doubt.
Overall, the bed and pillows were comfortable. the mini fridge was great for storing leftovers, making food choices easier without wasting food and beverages. The bathroom was clean and bright, and the shower water temperature was great, as was the water pressure. The complimentary towels and shampoo/soap were great. The staff members were all respectful and amiable.i would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to the area.
We were welcomed as the guest of the day! The lobby, business center, and dining area are all newly renovated. The nice lady at the front desk assigned us to a brand new room. Our room was newly renovated, clean, and had all the amenities we needed including comfortable beds, plenty of pillows, and plush bedding. After a good night sleep, we enjoyed breakfast (many options) before heading 5 minutes up the road to visit Ohio University for the day. Thanks for a great stay! Well be back in June.
The rooms have been renovated recently. The staff is what really made the stay great. My AC died in the middle of my stay, and despite being nearly fully booked (2 college volleyball teams and an alumni get together filled the place up) they were still able to find a room with a working AC for me. Always a friendly smile from all of them.
We were greeted right away with friendly staff member. Check in was easy and quick. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast had a good selection and eggwhite omelettes were my favorite. The only issue we had was the juice dispensed was watery and not much flavor. Check out was efficient and quick. We would definitely stay again.
My husband and I stay at this hotel often and always enjoy our stay. The rooms are impeccably clean, the bathroom sparkles. The linens are crisp and clean looking and smelling. The whole hotel seems to sparkle. The breakfast room is efficient and the treats are a joy to partake in. We had pumpkin tarts for Thanksgiving, how wonderful. The staff are fun and efficient. We stay here and drive two hours to Columbus rather than have to stay at the HI in that city. No comparison at quality and value. Make this a destination stay and you will never be sorry.
Highly recommend!! We arrived here late in the evening after having truck trouble on the road. The staff member who I spoke to on the phone was pleasant and professional. While checking in, he was also super nice and very accommodating. We were traveling with a dog and they were pet friendly. The room was clean and comfortable, and all the staff we encountered was friendly, polite and helpful. The continental breakfast was very good with eggs, bacon, etc. and even gluten free muffins. There was also nice walking trails right behind the hotel. We would definitely recommend this place!
Words cannot describe how hospitable the staff at this Holiday Inn are. After a 12 hour road trip that was ending very badly, we arrived at this Holiday Inn. Our daughter was supposed to move into her off campus apartment for college (which we picked online, from the Universities website. ) Unfortunately, it was roach infested, smoke filled and had cat urine in the carpet. Needless to say, as parents, we were distressed and refused to allow her to live there. We drove to the hotel, U-Haul and all. We were immediately greeted by Kristin and Brooklyn, who were super helpful in assisting us with finding a new apartment. They provided numbers and addresses, gave directions and reassured us that this was not the norm for the area. The next day after we secured another apartment, not sight unseen, Megan and Ashley helped us with locating a storage unit and a church for our daughter to attend. I truly feel that God had a hand in this and placed these magnificent employees in our path. We will stay there every year that our daughter is at Ohio University. I would be remiss if I did not mention the breakfast staff that were amazing and friendly.
I booked this hotel largely because I wanted my son and his friend to be able to swim in the pool. Unfortunately the pool was closed for cleaning when we arrived due to a mishap with a hotel guest. I understand that it was no fault of the hotel, but it is disappointing nevertheless when you book a hotel for amenities that are not available upon arrival. Also, there was an odd odor in the hallway and guest room...almost like a musty smell. The room decor was nice and the beds were comfortable, but I was unable to adjust the room temperature. Overall our stay was just OK.
The hotel room was nicely decorated and clean. The flat screen tv was wall mounted which allowed for more space on top of the dresser to place my personal items.I slept fine the first night. Woke up that morning, had breakfast and off to work. When I returned to the hotel, neither of my room keys worked although they were stored in two completely separate places (one in my coat pocket by itself and the other in the front pocket of my purse with some random receipts. After trying to get into my room and discovering this issue, I went to the front desk to get my keys reactivated. When I asked if there was a reason both keys were deactivated, the person at the front desk acted as if it was an unimportant and annoying questions that didnt really deserve any type of answer. She became more responsive when I asked for her name. That night around 7pm, a dog in one of the rooms on my floor and at the same end of the floor as my room decided it would be a great time to start barking. I called down to the front desk after an hour to report this . The same person was at the front desk and stated she didnt know that there were any pets in the building. The barking went on intermittently all night long. I had a horrible nights sleep and was dead tired the next morning. I reported it again in the morning to the new front desk person who offered up some reward points (which by the way, I never received).
This hotel was super clean and the beds are very comfortable. They bring plenty of extra towels upon request and are very responsive to any issue, big or small. The hot breakfast food is not good at all, so I suggest planning breakfast out if you want a hot meal. The other continental style foods are fine though. The Applebeeβs next door offers a 10% discount to hotel guests. Just ask for the discount.
This was a nice place for a quick little weekend, it was clean and well-maintained. The cozy room had a refrigerator and microwave, which is always a plus. The bathroom was well designed so it was easy to lay out toiletries. I do wish the room lights were brighter, though, those energy savings bulbs are just dim and dreary. Bed and pillows both very comfortable and, really important for me, the detergent used on the linens was fragrance free! Thanks for that.
The hotel is advertised as a smoke free hotel but when we entered our room there were burn marks all over the floor, we reported it so we were not charged None of the electrical outlets next to the bed worked and all usb ports in the room were smashed in an unable to use.. We were kept up all night by people yelling out in front of the hotel. We travel to Athens often will never stay there again
The neighbors next to us weβre having a very loud obnoxious party. We heard every beer can open, every swearword and every story told. We called the front desk at 10 oβclock 1030 11 oβclock and 1130. The front desk person said he could do nothing about the noise. He said we could call the police. But as long is they werenβt harming themselves or others, he could do nothing. Finally at 12:30, my husband went over to ask them politely to quiet down. They did not. We were shocked and dismayed that the hotel made us reason resolve the situation ourselves.
My daughter and I have stayed at this hotel twice in the last six weeks. On both occasions, the rooms were comfortable and relaxing. We had my dog both times, and my dog and my daughters kitten the second time. I love that the animals do not have to be kept off of the furniture...they, too, are able to feel like they are at home. The staff, from the front desk people to the dining room people, were all very friendly. On my first visit there was a small billing issue (they had accidentally charged the pet fee twice) and they fixed it quickly and completely. The breakfast was pretty good. It was your standard hotel breakfast. The cinnamon rolls were very good!I will definitely stay here again if I am in the area and need a hotel.
Iβll pass next time. The ventilation in the bathroom was out. The bed was gross and damp. unsleepabl. We had four guest staying in one room. Two queen size beds. Everything was set up for the two or three guest. They only allowed 10 guest at a time at the swimming pool but not how long you can use the swimming pool. With the three day period Who is unable to swim. And they messed up my finances.
We selected the Holiday Inn Express in Athens over a nearby competitor, primarily because the rates at the Holiday Inn were much better and they offered a discount I could take advantage of. It helped that although the rates were better, the holiday inn also got good reviews. We enjoyed our stay...it was quiet, very clean and the beds were very comfortable. Rooms were updated and nice. Breakfast options were very good (chobani yogurt instead of cheaper, sugary yogurt) and coffee was much better than your average hotel coffee. Plus, it was nice to have real half&half vs. the fake, room temperature stuff. It looks like they tried to make the exterior reflective of the university (brick), which was a nice touch. Next time we decide to stay overnight in Athens, well be staying here!
A block of seven rooms were reserved months in advance for out of town family members attending a wedding. The bride and groom live in the Athens area. Our group consisted of the brides parents, brother, sisters and in-laws coming as far away as Virginia Beach.A total screw up with all of the reservations. First, all the rooms were requested to be on the same floor and with reasonable distance from one another. They Not. We were scattered all over the hotel on different floors. Second, one room was specifically requested to accommodate a handicapped person. Didnt Happen. Third, and the most important to all of us. The bride and groom had a room reservation for Saturday night, the night of the wedding. Our plan was get together Sunday morning in the hotel for breakfast together before everyone headed back home. Didnt Happen. They set up the reservation for Friday night instead of Saturday night. Our reservation paperwork showed Saturday and they admitted that they made an error with the reservation. Only problem was the hotel was totally occupied Saturday night, no empty rooms. Fortunately the bride and groom lived locally but the plans for Sunday morning was out. When it all was discussed a staff member of the hotel with the General Manager and Owner their conclusion was, yes they made an error with the reservation for the bride and groom but since the room was comped no one was out any money or in other words, no harm. No thought on their part as to the inconveniences to the bride, groom and families and the familys plans. You all can make your own decisions if you plan on staying at this hotel but if something similar happened with you how would you feel. I feel its total B.S. and very unprofessional of the General Manager and Owner. Needless to say Im saying it extremely mild to how I really feel about this hotel.
My family and I have stayed at this particular hotel several times now and have yet to be disappointed. The beds are fantastically comfortable and I keep meaning to buy a similar pillow set for myself at home! The breakfast spread is really nice with hot pancakes, cinnamon rolls, a decent meat selection, fruits, yogurt, etc.The fan/heater in the room seems to run consistently in the room, but it provides a decent white noise, so its not very annoying. My room is always clean and the front desk people are always friendly. Would totally recommend.
Experience here was outstanding. When we were checking in the two girls at the front desk were very friendly and pleasant. Its alway nice to be greeted by a friendly face it sets the tone right away. The room was very clean and comfortable. I was especially pleased with how accommodating the hotel was towards pets. I will definitely seek out other Holiday Inn Express for future travel. I wouldnt change a thing. The staff, rooms and breakfast were great!
I love this hotel, the staff is friendly and the room was clean and very comfortable. My only complaint is the room I was in, the USB charging ports were broke and was unable to be used. The breakfast is delicious and a variety of items to choose from. This was my second stay in this hotel and will definitely be using it again whenever Iβm in Athens to visit my daughter at college
Just as about we were ready to go to bed the toilet started leaking. Water all over bathroom floor. My husband called front desk to report issue. We expected someone to come and fix it. 30 minutes later I called front desk and the guy said no one was there to fix it. I asked if we could switch rooms then and he said he would call me back. He called right back and said we could move into room next door. This is 11:30 p.m. so going to bed early was not gonna happen. I went downstairs to pick up new key. New room was fine except bathroom sink did not drain properly. Needless to say we were very disappointed in Holiday Inn Express.
During our evening on site, we had a issue that the staff did not take care of. After three we temporarily took care of the issue to get thru the night. The next morning the manager was very helpful. She address the issue and made it was by refunding the cost of the room. I stay at IHG hotels all the time and have never had a issue before. Great recovery, thanks to the day manger who address the issue head on. Wouldnβt of thought of any different from any other location. Thank you
The Holiday Inn Express in Athens was a pleasant surprise. We had a roomy suite with decent sized bathroom and great shower head. Rooms seemed to be nicely insulated against noise - we were near the elevator but never heard the ding sound it makes when the door opens. The breakfast bar was standard for this chain; however, the coffee bar had very hot and strong coffee, and there were 3 kinds of dairy to add to the coffee including a jug of half and half which is not commonly found in this category of hotel. The rate for a Friday night was excellent. My husband and I would definitely choose this hotel again.
We enjoyed our stay. The breakfast was good and the choices for breakfast excellent. Our room was over the pool which led to some noise. The pool stays open until 11:00 which did interrupt our rest, but now that I know that, I would request a room away from the pool. The beds were really very comfortable and the bathroom was quite roomy. Overall we enjoyed our stay!
Stayed at the Athens location twice: on my way home to MI and on the way back. Google GPS is not accurate in regards to the exit construction on US33, so I had trouble getting this hotel from US33N. The signage from State Street isnt that great, so it was hard to find the entrance. The lobby and common areas were well lit and nicely decorated. I also really like the decor and furniture in the room. The mattress was super comfy. The walls and doors were kinda thin because I could hear everything from the hallway and the room next door, especially on my second night when I got a room with one of those shared doors in between. I could hear the stairwell door every time it opened, I could hear the very loud AC unit in the 3rd floor hallway, all the footsteps and conversations in the hallway, and I could hear the guests next door. It wasnt super loud, and I was tired from a long drive, but it was a bit awkward to hear conversations. The bathrooms looked updated, but the shower both nights couldve used some updates. The paint was peeling on one, and my first night, the shower head was loose and shot water on the wall/floor. I used extra towels to soak up the water outside the tub and informed the front desk, and they were very professional and friendly about it. If you like high-pressure water, these shower heads are for you. They had different settings, but I found them all to be too hard/high for my comfort. It was like a very heavy massage on my back, but it definitely got the shampoo out.The breakfast area was clean and welcoming, and the food was OK. The staff in the breakfast area were very attentive and friendly.Overall, I would recommend this location. I think it will be even better once the US33 construction is complete.
What an amazing staff whenever there was interaction! A special thanks to Keeley and many others who were at the front desk. Extremely accommodating, kind and patient. Needing to stay in Athens to work through a family tragedy, the last thing we needed was problems with accommodations. Everything here was great...except the housekeeping. We have stayed two different weekends and we had the same experience each time. One day, the room didnt get cleaned at all. They compensated us for this experience. But the second weekend, even upon entering the room the first day, the room was almost unbearable with very visible gobs of hair in the bathroom. Those never even got cleaned up after we notified them. Again, the front desk was kind and provided some compensation, but it is not something anyone would want to walk into.
We stay here often when visiting our daughter at Ohio University. It is completely remodeled and very nice. I wish the chain would not have changed their cinnamon rolls- the old ones were perfect! I also wish they would provide better pillows- the ones marked βfirmβ are nowhere near firm. I always have such a stiff neck in the morning from the pillows all being way too soft. The staff here is wonderful and go out of their way to make your stay the best it can be! Really appreciate them!
I dont think I would stay at this hotel nor recommend this hotel to anyone! 1. You advertise balcony rooms why? I saw zero balcony rooms unless you have them on the backside of the hotel. 2.The room was musty smelling, not fresh as you would expect a Holiday Inn to smell. 3.The TV is situated horrible, it did not swivel so the only real person that can watch is the window bed right in front of the TV. There isnt another TV at least in front of the couch, so that was a complete joke. 4.The HVAC unit never shuts off blowing cold air even on heat, we froze. There was no off really! 5.The window bed was right on top of the HVAC unit, my son either froze from the blowing constant air or burnt up from the heat blasting! 6. Where the central garbage can was there was spats of food, which literally takes a scrubby to get off! 7. The tub had pink ick in corners which only takes a dab of bleach to remove! 8.The rooms acoustics are horrible
I loved my stay from the moment I walked in the front door! The newly remodeled hotel is beautiful and the welcome I received was warm and wonderful. Everything about my stay was enjoyable - I slept well, enjoyed a little TV and left the next morning feeling bright and cheerful, following a great breakfast!
Our room was very comfortable, everything seemed clean and fresh. We seemed to have an issue with the water in the shower, it was so sensitive and only went to burning hot or freezing cold. But, they seem to be doing some renovations and another room we stayed in was perfect! I love the tv channels and movies they offer, the breakfast was great, and its a good location to drive to the must-see areas in Ohio(=
Everything was very nice about my stay here, beginning with the fact that my dog could stay with us. He is very well trained (especially in the potty field). Breakfast was very nice actually the best continental breakfast I have ever had. And to-go-boxes even! The bed was comfortable. The sheets and towels were soft. TV was good. Check out time wasnt until 12. Room was modern and attractive. The only thing I could suggest you check a bit more carefully is around the bath tub. Some of the caulking looked rather discusting. But, all in all it was a very good motel.
Stayed at this hotel at our last night on a long road trip, and it was a great choice. We used our IHG rewards points, and we were upgraded to a king SUITE upon check in. The room was spacious and lovely, everything was sparkling clean. The breakfast was the best hot breakfast we have ever had at a hotel, the staff were constantly in motion tidying, restocking and organizing the food, plates and utensils. Then to top it off, free hot cinnamon rolls and to-go boxes! I really cant say enough about this excellent hotel and these amazing staff.
This hotel may have been closed for awhile due to Covid-19, but upon reopening, the rooms should have quality control. There was a dirty bandaid on the floor and a dirty towel left in the hanging closet. The refrigerator had food spills left in it. The pillows smelled of sweat so I covered in my freshly laundered t-shirt so I could sleep. I was tired from traveling all day, when I arrived and in a hurry when I checked out, otherwise I would have addressed these problems with the front desk. Please do better to sanitize and double check your rooms for cleanliness.
I had an excellent time at the Holiday inn Express in Athens. I got in late and the front desk staff were very helpful in telling me where was most convenient to park, and got me situated very quickly. My room was impeccably clean, and had a wonderfully working iron and ironing board that I desperately needed for my interview the next day. I had a good night sleep. My second day I was able to get up and get out fast, and had a lovely breakfast. The second day was much the same. Overall a wonderful experience.
Very nice accommodations. Coffee and tea in the lobby 24/7. Please bring a mask to wear everywhere except for while youre in your room. There is a fitness center. Breakfast is comprised of cinnamon rolls, eggs, meat, toast, yogurt, fruit, and/or cereal. Everything is very fresh. You have to stand in line to be served by the breakfast attendant. Pack your patience. Use lots of hand sanitizer. There are full size bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash on the wall inside of the shower (in your room). Enjoy your stay....we did!
Our daughter was married in Athens and we stayed at this property. Excellent service, even after we had to change our reservation. Housekeeping was so kind and helpful I swear they did up our rooms extra nice for us, knowing wed come back tired! Great property - dont hesitate to stay here!

2021-12-13Great stay. Happy to be close to the bike path so I can run outside every day. The hot tub was very helpful to relax sore muscles. The breakfast was normal, typical Holiday Inn Express, it could have had more variety throughout the week in regards to hot foods. But overall no complaints. Staff was very friendly, helpful and courteous. Will always recommend this hotel and will return when the need warrants.

2022-02-09We stopped here on our way home from North Carolina, and I made the reservation over the phone, and the guy was very helpful and nice in answering my questions. We got there, and every worker we interacted with was just so nice and welcoming. We had just had an awful experience at a Hilton (worst hotel customer service I have ever had), and to end our trip at a hotel where everyone was very helpful was a really nice ending to our trip.

2022-05-11This is my favorite stop whenever I head south. The area is nice, the hotel is always clean, the staff is warm and hospitable, and breakfast is a great treat. The indoor pool and hot tub are always operational and neat. I highly recommend this on your stay.

2022-05-01The representatives were friendly and professional. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The complimentary breakfast had hot food available. The location was perfect for visiting Ohio University and it was surrounded by various restaurants, gas stations, Kroger and Wal-Mart.

2022-03-173/2022 This hotel deserves an A. Ive stayed at the Athens HI Express a dozen times over the last 4 years. Ive stayed here when they were sold out (graduation, homecoming) and when it was almost empty. This consistently remains a well managed hotel. IHG corporate should use Athens as the role model for other HI Express. Why do I like this hotel? First, its always clean & well maintained (rooms, common areas, breakfast area & outside). Second, they hire well. They found employees who want to be successful. The workers who engage with the customers are always properly dressed and professional. As a highlight, the management has a developmentally disabled citizen who works the breakfast bar. He is excellent with the customers (and keeps the breakfast area spotless). I appreciate management giving this person an opportunity to contribute to society. Their pricing is inline with their competitors (Fairfield, Hampton). I only have two minuscule suggestions for the management (because they excel at the important stuff). The TV channel card in the rooms & the channel identification on the TV needs to be updated. Also, on the confirmation email, put a note that its behind the CVS & Verizon (if you dont know Athens, its easy to miss the hotel). Keep up the good work.

2022-03-25The price is reasonable but there was no shower gel in the dispenser and very few Kleenexes left in the Kleenex box so ran out of those. The bed and pillows were very comfortable.
