Really looking rough. The food was 50/50. The prime rib was excellent and worth the price . The salmon and scallops were good but not exceptional for price, the thick pork chop came out not cooked through. It was our anniversary and sweetest day. The manager never came out.
I had my wedding reception here! The staff was AMAZING! I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! They were very accommodating! Our guests love love loved the pasta bar! Kristina was the best! She was available to answer every question I had via text message! I’m so happy we decided to have our reception here!
I ate at the restaurant (with a party of five) on 7-11-15 around 6 PM. The server was friendly and efficient. The food was disappointing, (although because of the prices of the entrees, I may have been holding the restaurant to a higher standard). The salad (or all I remember) consisted of regular iceberg lettuce, shredded carrots and croutons, but the house dressing was excellent. I have to admit that I seldom see salads arrive in bowls this small, however. I ordered the chicken breast which arrived in two medium sized patties, which were dry. The garden-style rice mixture was interesting, with a buttery taste, but it was presented in a very small bowl on the plate, so there was not a lot to enjoy. When my entree arrived, I could actually see more white plate than food. Not a pleasant surprise since the entree cost $14.95, which is pricier than average for this meal. The rolls were ordinary, and a bit dry. Maybe the staff was more preoccupied with catering to the wedding party that arrived the same time we did. Since the restaurant has such a long history, I can only presume that we may have been there on the wrong day, at the wrong time, since--with the overall quality of the meal--I would never consider returning, or booking an event at this venue.
My wife and I had lunch at Hellriegels Inn today. We have heard about it for many years but never had been. We wont be going again either. The prices were very high for the portions that we received. The waitress was just short of being rude and wasnt attentive at all. She left dirty plates on the table and didnt even ask if we wanted dessert. She also did not check back to see if our meals were ok. We had a $7 coupon from the All Around Town book so I do not know if that played into our small portions and bad service. The $7 coupon didnt even cover half the price of one meal.
We came in for the Sunday brunch buffet. We arrived just before noon for a buffet that runs until 2pm. Apparently they put the food out first thing and then do not refill anything. There were no plates, had to ask. There was very little fruit (watermelon and a large bowl of blueberries). The omelette station was abandoned and when I asked I was told he only comes out for omelettes but if you want another I will get him. I had not had anything yet. I felt like Oliver Twist begging for some food. We will never be back here again. Right down the street is the Mentor family restaurant and their Sunday brunch is much less expensive and far better food.
What a fantastic private party we had (33 people) at Hellriegels last Saturday, 12-14-19, for my brothers 60th birthday. The table settings were elegantly set, the buffet food was delicious, the staff was more than accommodating (we were able to arrive 1.5 hours early to bring additional decor) & our server, Steve, kept up beautifully with our every need, to include bar service.I know our guests were very pleased with the party, start to finish, and I hope they will keep Hellriegels in mind for their future needs...I know my family and I will.Thank you, Hellriegels!
Service was great food was ok. We all ordered seafood. Scallops were not the best, shrimp were great and orange roughy was as well. Nothing too special but I didn appreciate the location we were seated in since my 4 year old came along. Not sure Id be back for a dinner with family. I preferred there patio for drinks and appetizers more so from a previous visit.
Stay away from the beef. We have given the place several chances over the last 3 or 4 years to see if it will ever return to its former quality self. Unfortunately it hasnt. The prime rib, I believe, is not fresh roasted. It came cold, off color and way too salted - inedible. The strip steak was cold, tough and loaded with gristle - inedible and had to be refused. Steaks here used to be of high quality and dependable. The chicken offered as a replacement was ok ($25??) but having to wait for my meal while my wife finished hers is not my idea of fine dining. If you are familiar with veal parm at the typical Italian restaurant youll wonder where their recipe comes from. Many reviewers miss the great sticky buns and the hot fudge sundaes are also gone.Maybe we were just unlucky but the fact that we were the only customers for dinner at 1:00 on Sunday should be telling.I especially felt sorry for the waitresses who have to apologize and are so nice. They practically have to grovel to please the few customers to hopefully get a decent tip.How there can be so many high reviews is beyond me.
Took whole family here for fathers day. Old building but very impressed with food quality. Only complaint is that we continually had to wait for the buffet dishes to be replenished. It irritated our father which kinda defeated the purpose. We will go back when it isnt a holiday.
My fiancé made reservations for three on New Years Eve. Upon arriving we found that they were serving a limited menu. The only sides available were salad, baked potatoes and green beans. I ordered fried shrimp, he ordered a t-bone and his daughter pork chops. With the exception of the chops, the food was bland and very overpriced.
My wife and I are out-of-towners and were looking for a quiet place to have dinner Sunday night. We happened to see Hellriegel’s and decided to give it a try. We would describe the ambience as quaint country elegance. We were seated by a window with lace curtains overlooking the garden which my wife loved. We ordered the full prime rib dinner with dessert. It was excellent. We enjoyed the whole experience and will definitely be back the next time we are in town.
Went today for the brunch buffet. My advice to anyone reading this, STAY AWAY. Food is subpar at best. Pancakes taste like they were pulled out of the freezer and microwaved hours before we arrived there. The potatoes tasted as if they were cooked the night before. The decor inside the place is severely outdated and could use a little cleaning. The ceiling looked as if it was ready to cave in on us as we sat there. I advise anyone reading this to save your 12$ on this poor excuse for a buffet. I wouldve been better off going to McDonalds for a big breakfast, at least there I wouldve had more options at food.
Probably one of the worst meals Ive ever eaten in my 60 years! I ordered the fried chicken, it came baked covered with a nasty chicken flavored gravy! Cheap, frozen green beans. The interior of the building is dirty and is in dire need of repairs and vacuuming! There was a couple that came in just as we were about to leave and I heard them order the same thing I had...it was all I could do to keep my mouth shut and not tell them how awful the food was!Normally, I just go on about my day after a bad experience like this, but I had to leave this review to save others from this horrible experience!
What a shame, this used to be a great special occasion or date nite place.Have not been there in years and it seems like this is true for every one else.I should have know this was not going to be a good experience when there were only three tables seated during the dinner hour. also overheard the barmaid say to our waiter Well at least youll have more than one customer tonightWife seafood platter was cold when served, my prime rib was tasteless for other than salt. even the home fries with gravy were to salty to eat.only good thing was the homemade Banana Cream Pie.wont make this mistake again!.
My youngest daughter got married there and had their wedding reception there as well. Personally we loved Christaina absolutely love her from the moment we meet her at the hall! She took very well care of us and the whole bridal party as well as all the guests. The food was fantastic and so were the servers from the cooks all the way down to the clean up!! We couldnt have asked for anything better she the hall looking amazing wonderful for my daughters first and only wedding as well as reception so much more then we expected!! Christaina and her crew are amazing from the cooks Ryan and Mike to wonderful crew who served and cleaned up our tables they were fantastic all the way we owe them so much!!!! We will be back for another big party again! This is the best place great prices, great food, wonderful crew, great time, to be had. I Love this place thank you Christaina my daughters wedding was 8/2/14!FABULOUS
I sat down thinking I was in an episode of Kitchen Nightmares.Outdated decor, repairs that need made.Entries are priced high, but be warned they do not live up to the cost.1 side and a salad, for most, unless you get the 5 course meal special at an additional $7. Meals average $20-30+ range as it is.We ate around 6pm and there was only one other table eating. We left around 7:30pm, and other than the few at the bar, it was dead on a Tuesday night.I wont be returning. Just not enough going to keep my interest.
Definately Overhyped! Opulent Prices, Average Everything! :(I was glad I had the coupon from the yellow pages online for a $15 discount. Still disappointed for the price. The cuts of prime rib were probably twice the thickness of other places. The chef could not get them well done after 3 tries. My wife was seated next to the beautiful fireplace, but, was unable to move her chair for comfort due to the fireplace brick on the floor. My wifes onion rings were inedible to her due to the amount of grease. A baked potato was graciously substituted at no charge. The anniversary cake was less than optimal. Often had to wait for the service to appear. The rowdy regulars at the bar, ruined the mood and the ambiance. Went home full, but, Overall, a big disappointment for our first try there.
Thanksgiving need a place ear and at almost 28.00 dollars a plate guy giving out the meat was wow crazy cheap potatoes were cold as hell dry stuffing tiny lil glasses to drink from and wait staff slow for this amount I suggest going else where cause I wont be back and the guy giving out the meat wow he gave me peace of ham the size of a half dollar and there was one piece on cutting board a lil smaller and ask u want the last one Im like hell yeah really I feel as I should have got more bang for my buck fyi
The half and half creamers curdled our coffee, but that didnt matter because the coffee was too cold to drink. When she took the creamers away she took the butter too so we didnt have any for our pancakes, but that didnt matter because the pancakes were packed pre-frozen ones which I wouldnt know the difference because they were cold and stale to the point of stiffness. I could go on, but I just got home and I have to run...a fact I attribute to old sausage or eggs. My fault since they didnt taste right from the first bite.

2022-07-14This place is a throwback, and I love it. Not even going to try to describe the atmosphere. Just stop there some evening. I have not eaten here, but the servers are wonderful and the bar is extremely charming.UPDATE:I have now eaten there. Party of five, at the outdoor patio. We had cocktails and dinner. Our server was phenomenal, cocktails spectacular, and each of the five of us thoroughly enjoyed the food. I dare say the presence of my 21-year-old daughter and her boyfriend dropped the average age of the clientele by a solid decade, but they enjoyed it.

2022-04-18My family and I attended the Easter buffet at 3pm. There were 10 of us total. We were sat promptly and our server came over to the table immediately to take our drink order. So far, so good...I was impressed with the attentiveness of the staff. We each ordered the buffet at $31.95 per person which included non-alcoholic beverages (which is great, because we dont drink). We were all served our sodas in small plastic cups, which we drank in almost one sip, and were left to wonder if and when we would ever get a refill (FYI most of us had Coke, so bringing a pitcher would have been great). I had ginger ale, asked for a refill and never received anything. Now, on to the buffet, which sounded much better than it looked. It was being portioned out by staff (which is totally understandable), but it was cold. The mashed potatoes were real, but completely tasteless, the green beans almandine was mushy, penne with marinara was dry and clumped together, the chicken marsala was the only menu item worth eating (it was flavored very well), deviled eggs were room temperature, eggs Florentine bake was burnt on the bottom and stuck to the pan, the ham looked fine (it was just a water logged buffet ham, so pretty hard to mess up), and the prime rib was cut so thick that it was chewy and even the au jus did nothing for it. There were butter packets on our table but no rolls, biscuits, or bread of any type. My 84 year old grandmother asked for some bread and was told that the buffet doesnt come with bread, but since everyone has been asking, she will bring a few rolls, which she did, but you would think she would have brought bread for the entire table, and not make it seem like she was doing us a HUGE favor by bringing 2 rolls for my grandma lol! There were two a la carte options for dessert, carrot cake or banana cream pie, and each was $6.95. My husband and 10 year old son ordered carrot cake, and I ordered banana cream pie. The cake was dry and very small, and my pie was a blob. The server did recognize that the pie was a mess and did not charge us for it. Overall, this was the worst Easter dinner I have ever had or seen being served. At best, this should have been $19.99 person, NOT $31.95. Please take this as constructive criticism. I was really excited to have our familys holiday dinner at Hellriegels Inn this year, but sadly, we were disappointed and feel taken advantage of by this business.

2020-03-03A staple on the Eastside of Cleveland! You can just smell the history when you walk in! The prime rib dinner offers one of the largest slices of prime rib you can get and is very good! A potato and salad come with dinner along with a basket of rolls. Other menu items fare well but somethings are way overpriced. Service is ok. Atmosphere is like stepping foot in a time warp. Would recommend if you have money to spend!

2018-05-21A historical landmark in Painesville Ohio, a must if you visit Painesville. it has a very rich history of political rallies and dinners held here. It is well known for its prime rib of beef.

2022-01-16Service was great. Shell fish allergies and she asked the cooking staff if they have an option to prepare my Perch dinner. Pan fried and it was great. Thanks much

2021-11-29We had a nice Thanksgiving dinner. Very basic buffet for the $29.00 price per person, would have liked to see more items. The staff was very nice and friendly.

2021-12-11Attended the Pearl Harbor Remembrance Dinner on December 7th, 2021. The veteran service/remembrance was respectfully administered and graciously appreciated. God bless our servicemen and women, current and veterans for allowing America the opportunity to decide, for better or worse, Her own fate. The meal, appetizers, drinks and service were greatly appreciated.
