For the food Ill be really honest, its not my taste at all; Pad thai was too sour and watery, sticky rice in lotus I didnt know it has tiny shrimp in there it was too fishy, pork bun was okay but too dry, my husband like the spicy dumplings--he liked the spicy sauce a lot.The food was not impressed us but the service was good, we really liked our server. And the 3stars went to him, we wanted to give him 5stars but the food took the point from him 🥺
I did some research looking for an authentic Szechuan restaurant here in Columbus. I called ahead to confirm if they had the spicy fish bowl on the menu. Some restaurants call it braised fish soup. This dish is absolutely to die for. They also have it available with chicken or beef however I’ve never tried it because the fish is always excellent and plentiful.Update 3/17 went back and order the cauliflower it was also delicious
I am so amazed by its quantity and taste of the items after an online order that i am so hooked. That being a good pick up line to grab your attention, lets go for the actual review. I have seen that mostly when you are placing an online order, the experience of eating at home is not as good as eating at a restaurant. That being said, we all are in the same situation since the covid-19 has started. Although, i can definitely say that this place makes sure that the packaging is good enough to recreate the same experience as in a restaurant as in an online delivery. This place was a random find on grubhub and i had order Fish in chilli soup, house fried rice and hot pepper chicken. They make real spicy stuff so make sure when you are ordering, leave a note how spicy you want because their base level itself is going to give you a blast in your nose and mouth. Anyhow, ratings below for each item i had ordered.Fish in chili soup -5/5House fried rice -5/5Chili oil- 5/5Hot pepper chicken -5/5Side order of fried rice - 3/5
Weve been searching for a great, hopefully consistent Asian restaurant where the food actually makes our tummies happy. After my first take which we usually do, we think ever found that place. Outside makes you wonder at first, but upon entering you instantly find yourself in a clean, inviting place to eat and assuming it was Helen that took care of me, she seems to be a wonderful, amazing, and straight forward person. Wants to make sure that the order she gives you is there right one completely. After reading her story, I have great respect for her already. Good job Helen. Well be back.
Okay, so my rating may not be fair because I used a food delivery service and didn’t get a chance to actually dine in the restaurant to experience freshly-made-to-the-table food. With that being said, we ordered the Mongolian beef and an order dumplings. I mean, if you see a restaurant offering fresh, hand made dumplings…you’re going to try it! Right? Am I right? Maybe it’s just me…okay, let’s move on…the dumplings were pretty good. The meat to dough ratio was nice. They were too chewy, or undercooked. The Mongolian beef had a nice grilled flavoring and the rice was a bit too dry for my taste.Sadly, my husband got a headache after eating his meal. I know if you go to a restaurant, you’ll see (or you should see) which items have MSG in them. I don’t know WHY this is still a substance allowed in food. Delivery services should have it listed as well. Now, before you go jumping down my throat (which I’d only prefer if you had dumplings with you, and only maybe then), I’m not saying they use MSG. I’m only stating that he got a headache while eating his meal, and he’s been known to have that reaction to foods with MSG. Nonetheless, it’s a mom and pop shop, so support local business.
Helens Asian Kitchen has been completely remodeled, all the way down to the menu. The restaurant looks great (way less like an 80s strip club) with modern touches. The food is still good, but the new menu really lacks the variety the old menu offered. Gone are the days of fried rice and wonton soup (not only is it not on the menu, but they actually do NOT even make it as an off menu item). And there are no more beautiful pictures of the dishes they serve.More upscale dishes have been added, like the lamb and green onions and the curry beef, and they now bring a nice Korean style little appetizer (4 small dishes with egg, bean sprouts, pickled cabbage, and broccoli) which is a nice start to the meal. But unfortunately many of the unique traditional Chinese recipes that the family of owners brought, are also missing.I will continue to frequent Helens, but I do miss the old menu.
First time ordering and it was definitely not a mistake. The place is out of the way from the main road, but once youve found it, it would have been worth the effort. We ordered a few different items to get a better idea of quality across the board. The Honey Walnut Chicken, Beef Stew, Beef Phad Thai, and 2 orders of the Soup Dumplings.Pricing is a bit high, but that is to be expected in todays economy. The heights are not outrageous, but they would be reasonable for their day to day operations. If a small price bump should keep you from ordering, knowing whats going on in the world, just make some eggs or something at home. Go complain elsewhere. The pandemic did not give us the opportunity to try it fresh and hot in the restaurant setting, so we settled for carry-out. When I picked up the food, it was nicely packaged and traveled well. Food was still hot by the time it made it home. The food was well done. It really had that mom and pops feel to it. The Beef Stew was rather hearty. Really basic and consists of chunks of potatoes, green beans, and tender beef. It was perfect for todays rainy and dreary day, and accompanied the white rice perfectly. The Phad Thai was really nice. The noodles had a good flavor to them and with a squeeze of the lime, and gave it that extra element needed. The Honey Walnut Chicken was really nice! The usual sugar rush to keep the American appetite raging, but with a nice balance. The sauce was what was to be expected, but not overly sweet. The candied walnuts, sweet. The pineapple, perfect. The small addition of the pineapple, although sweet, had a slight tartness to give the dish the balance it needed. The Soup Dumplings, some comment on its size, but we thought they were perfectly fine. Not looking for basketballs.. bite-sized portions are perfect for this dish, as you should eat it all ONE bite, ONE, listen people! The sauce accompanied with it gives it the extra saltiness you would prefer, as the contents are a bit more subtle of a flavor, but good. Remember, these are dumplings filled with soup, I dont know if they would look fuller at the restaurant or the science going on with the heat and enclosed space during travel may have withered it down a bit. Point is, food was good. Now that Ive given you enough to digest. I would hope that you give this place, and any restaurant, a fair try before giving them a review. We are all navigating through these strange times and have a duty to continue to help each other out.
A hidden Columbus gem for authentic Chinese/Sichuan food. We had heard good things about their stir fried cauliflower which definitely did not disappoint with its spicy savory flavor. The water boiled fish was also delicious with generous servings of fish (some places tend to get stingy with the fish and heavy with the cabbage). From the quality of these dishes, Im looking forward to trying some of their other choices next time, such as mapo tofu and yuxiang eggplant!
My husband and I were searching Columbus for soup dumplings (xiao long bao) and we were so excited to find them. They did not disappoint. We also had the crab wontons and chicken egg rolls which were good. My husband loved the pork dumplings but my favorite thing was the green beans! A little spice and oh so tasty. We will definitely be back.
Don’t order online. If you want to get your food, please Call. When this business gets busy they just ignore online orders and they expect you to be okay when you show up there walking out without any food and figuring out for yourself how to get your money back. The people are nice, but their business is overwhelmed and they take no responsibility for the order to placed legitimately through their website / online apps.Do yourself and Your family a favor and call in your order.
Enjoyed a friday lunch in a slow dining room. The general Tso was average, the rice wad crunchy in parts, but the bao was really good. Other patrons raved about the dumplings on their way out, will try on the next visit. The one owner was hand making dumplings in the dining room while overseeing the room; the other hosting and cashiering. Super friendly and chatty.Would like to see less clutter, and more cleanliness next visit, and let the waiter serve.
I showed up and they were a bit rude and asked me if i forgot about my pickup order because they said i was late. I wasnt more than 5 minutes after the time it said it would be ready. I told them my name and they handed me an order that ended up being someone elses. Then they called me later to ask me why I never got mine and like interrogated me as to why I grabbed the wrong order but their current system they hand you the order u cannot pick it up yourself. So it was very strange, but I ended up with extra free food and everything was delicious so I really cant be too upset. I recommend their pan fried noodles, ma la green beans, and chili oil dumplings!
Drove down with my family, didnt realize they didnt have dine in, but they prepped our (large!) order very quickly! Everything was delicious at home. They do have a separate 100% Chinese menu.My chinese parents were pretty happy! Which is impressive! Would definitely order again.
Helens is always a treat. I recommend asking for the Chinese style green beans. They arent on the menu, but they are just like the green beans I ate all the time in China with the Szechuan peppercorns and generous garlic bits. Garlic eggplant and cumin lamb top it off as one of my favorite meals in Columbus.
I am Chinese my husband is American . They have an authentic Chinese menu for me and an American Chinese menu for him . We live 3 hours away but whenever we go to Columbus we will definitely eat there ! He likes American Chinese food there and I like authentic Chinese food there . This place meets both of our expectations!!!!!
Excellent. Everything was delivered and my crab wontons were stuffed - still piping hot! Mongolian Beef and Genereal Tso - both the best Ive had. Vegetable egg roll is large and youll be glad you got that over the chicken egg roll though both are good - the vegetable was amazing.
Listen to me. This is the BEST place. You need to place an order right now. Everything is so good! My favorite is the beef noodle soup- the beef just absolutely melts in your mouth. The Hot and Spicy chicken is also my ride or die- tingly and numbing in the best possible way. Dont skip out on the dumplings, especially the spicy ones with crushed peanuts. Honestly, I could go on and on. You cant go wrong with anything on their menu. Im so looking forward to going back for dim sum. MY NEW FAVORITE PLACE!
For years I swore never to eat here because it used to be a strip club, but due to ordering from grubhub I didnt realize where I was ordering from until the map popped up. Ive wanted to try Mapo Tofu, but not too many restaurants around here carry it. We had a HUGE order, big family, and not only did they get the order completely correct, which in itself is amazing for a grubhub order, but oh, I probably hurt myself with that. I ordered an extra side of fried rice in case I didnt like the dish, and I ended out finishing about half of the mapo tofu and all of the white rice. I was barely able to put in the fried rice into the container for the tofu, which was in itself a lot larger than I expected, but Im not little. Im fat. I love me some food. I had tears down my face from how spicy it was and it was so delicious I couldnt put it down. Ate until I hated myself and still only ate about half of it. I thought the prices were just a little high, but after realizing what I got for that price, no, completely one hundred percent worth it. Spent about eighty dollars and fed nine people with leftovers for a few of us. One of the people I ordered for changed their mind after the order was in, suddenly deciding they didnt like spicy after I ordered General Tsos chicken. After deciding they didnt like spicy food, they decided they loved that dish. I will definitely be ordering from them again.
Basically wasted 20 bucks coming here this afternoon while I was visiting family in Ohio. They brought my kids food out first and he was finished before I even got mine. When my food came out it tasted awful, soggy, and only had sprouts for vegetables. I have no idea why this place is a 4.5.... the inside is run down, with the constant hum of the old ac unit, and the water the served us had black specks in it. I was just happy to leave and go to Bob Evans near by to eat some legitimate food.
This restaurant is absolutely amazing. Everything Ive had here has been fantastic and the orange/sesame/general chicken is the best Ive ever had at any asian restaurant and its all at a great price. Please never change or go anywhere Helens asian kitchen. You have my business always.
I have come to this restaurant for over 5 years & supported them through pick up & now delivery. There is no excuse for the service. I just got charged almost 50 dollars for no food...the delivery driver was given the wrong order because for some reason the refuse to update their skill set to include taking a phone number and name for each order instead of just hanging up on you. That has translated to more than one mistake & Ive over looked it. But when you tell me I have to reorder food and get charged again instead of just fixing my order...and arguing about it when it was YOUR fault. I will never eat here again.
Hands down my favorite Chinese restaurant in Columbus. If youre vegetarian, I highly recommend the Kung Pao crispy tofu and the spicy green beans.Note: I think their current online ordering system doesnt notify you when your food is ready, but basically just head over right after youve ordered it. My fairly large order took about 15 minutes.
Dont sit on this place. The food is fantastic. The service is always fast. Wednesday night is wine happy hour, 2 dollars glasses of house red or white. You really cant get better than that. I always get noodles here. They are always cooked perfectly. Portions are huge. I can at least 2 meals out of one order.
Chinese person here. Everything is delicious and flavorful. I’ve tried the eggplants, cauliflower, twice cooked pork, mala green beans, and mapo tofu... the absolute best. This place does not compare to any other place. Get the twice cooked pork. It melts in your mouth. I’m drooling just think about it lol. Oh, and the portions are large. You won’t be disappointed. Like another reviewer said, PLEASE NEVER GO ANYWHERE HELEN’S!!!
The food that my wife and kids received was fantastic. My order, however, never came. The waitress told me at one point that they were still making it, but 30 min later I had to go find her to ask to get the bill for the food we received so we could leave. The guy at the table next to me had been there longer than me and never received his food while the rest of his table had. I’m sure my order would have been excellent but the lack of customer service was very frustrating.
Bit of an odd experience. The place is clearly understaffed, because even though it was far from being packed, we waited a full half hour before the server even had time to take our order. Then, it was at least 40 additional minutes before the main courses came out.The food was quite good--We tried fish soup, Ma To Tofu, and vegetarian dumplings. I might go there again if Im not in a hurry. But they clearly need to hire more servers and more cooks.
Ordered online for delivery. Order was accurate. Plenty of sauce in meals, so it wasnt dry. Order was hot when it arrived. Postmates driver was friendly and polite. Food was a bit pricey I thought. Flavor was mediocre. It was OK but not anything extraordinary. We ordered the American style Chinese and maybe the authentic Chinese is better from what I have read.
My absolute favorite Asian restaurant, their food is to die for. The flavor is out of this world. The amount of food you get is always worth it too, but, because of how delicious it is, its hard to stop eating and save some for later, no matter how full I am. Thats another thing, I DONT like most Asian food reheated, but Helens manages to pull out a miracle and make it delicious despite being reheated. Thank you God for Helen and thank you Helen for your delicious food.
Food was delicious and staff was very friendly! We got the scallion pancakes, soup dumplings and ma po tofu. Including the side dishes we got when we sat down, everything was delicious! The only issue I had was that although the soup dumplings were very tasty, they didnt have very much soup in them at all :(
My husband and I tried Helens last night and oh.my.goodness!! It was incredible! Helens was the best chinese food weve had in Columbus, hands down. The boiled fish in chili soup was AMAZING! The service was great and so so friendly. Do yourself a favor and give it a try. Its not in the best area but it is well worth it. We are already planning on going back with more family and friends.
Helens Asian Kitchen has been a place we go to on special occasions ever since a friend of ours discovered it a few years back. The food was always fine and fresh, and utterly delicious. We would order from the Chinese menu, because we like our food hot and spicy.Recently, it has changed management, but, were happy to say, the food is still absolutely delicious. There is no longer a separate Chinese menu, but the staff is helpful and friendly, and is glad to show you where your old favorites are on the new menu. We took a group of friends to Helens recently, as some of them also like hot and spicy food, and they enjoyed it very much. The chicken in pepper oil was a thing of beauty and the twice-cooked pork was flawless. Those friends of ours who didnt want spicy were also impressed at the flavors of the more moderate fare.
Came here for lunch with a co-worker. I ordered the shrimp dumplings, soup dumplings and BBQ pork buns from the dim sum menu and my coworker ordered the spicy dumplings, shrimp and leek dumplings and some forgettable lunch special.Shrimp dumplings and soup dumplings were pretty good, but I only received 2 BBQ pork buns when the menu clearly says 3. When I asked our server she first tried to insist its always like that so I pointed out where it said 3 on the menu and still took a few min before acknowledging the mistake.Spicy dumplings were good but the shrimp and chive dumplings had a foul rotten fish like aftertaste... Messed my stomach up for a day.
Helen and crew do an amazing job. The dining room is just stunning, definitely looks like a great place for dinner. Clean as a whistle in there too.I go for lunch. Im in and out for under $10. The food is worth at least twice that.If you havent checked it out yet, you really should!
Ive been meaning to write this review for about a year because this is our go-to neighborhood delivery. Food is always fresh and piping hot, and they have a great mix of americanized and authentic dishes. The dumplings, while expensive, are made with care and are a meal in themselves. But what pushed me to finally put this to words was my experience tonight. Realizing I was out of uncooked rice at home and running late on dinner, I ran down the street to get a side order. I had my wallet out, fully ready to pay, but the proprietor gave me a knowing look and refused to accept my card. Not only that, it was my first glimpse inside to what is a modest but very quaint dining room where a diverse array of people were milling about, serving or sampling all kinds of dishes.I would recommend Helens to anyone in this quadrant of 270, and indeed anyone in Columbus looking for a homey and delicious new Chinese spot.
Walnut Honey Shrimp is outstanding flavor combination. Crispy noodles are just like I had in Hong Kong with a rich brown sauce. Crispy calamari is unlike any I have had in Columbus. Great with a beer. The owner was one heck of a nice guy and spent time with the customers. Dont let the homely location fool you, this is a hole in the wall gem.
This place is under new management and it sucks. The waiting staff barely understands English. I ordered the house fried rice and was at the table for an hour with no food. I was continuously told the had a bunch of online orders to fill; so the basically neglected us folksd that came in to eat. When I decided to leave and let the front desk know how we were on hold for an hour for rice I was surprisingly told that oh, we are out of fried rice! Really, out of fried rice at a Chinese restaurant? Never again
This is an Asian restaurant on the north side of 161 just west of the interchange exit of I 71. I have only eaten there a few times. The food has been acceptable quality and acceptable quantity for the price. Service has been very good and friendly. The owner of the restaurant is present and working to assure customer satisfaction.
Its hidden behind Waffle House and doesnt look like much on the outside but the inside is nice and food is delicious. They have all the American-Chinese food standards as well as some more traditional dishes. The cumin beef is excellent. Prices are reasonable, maybe a little higher than your average lumch style chinese place but well worth it.
Based on the reviews seem were really excited to try this place. The presentation was good but no follow through with flavor. The general tso chicken was very very chewy and way too sweet with absolutely no spice. The pot stickers were practically empty along with the crab rangoons.
Lets start with the customer service here. The customer service was above-average. They were very attentive and seem to go the extra mile. The food was very good as well. Will definitely do business with them again. Dont let the neighborhood fool you. This is truly a gem and the restaurant is very very clean inside.
If you enjoy Chinese food, dont make my mistake and put off visiting this location. It may seem like an odd place to find great food, but go on indoors and ask for suggestions. Try a dumpling order. Try a stir fry veggie dish. And try one of the meat and veggie entrees if you eat meat. I suspect if you follow the recommendations you wont be disappointed. And if you are, speak kindly to staff or management to see what they can do.
I was a little nervous with new ownership but that was unnecessary. Everything was wonderful. We were a party of 10 - the service was great, the soup dumplings amazing, scallion pancakes, the eggplant, baby bok choy, bimbimbop. There was one dish we didnt love...a pork dish I cant remember the name of. Other than that everything was great. Cant wait to go back!
Clearly something terrible has happened here. Helens was once a lovely place for authentic Chinese food. They had a piano. It was quirky and delightful. Then some mysterious event occurred and now the menu is full of Korean dishes and everything tastes stale and oily.Great place to eat if you are on a diet.
I am in town for work and staying at a hotel nearby. I have been craving some Chinese food and was enticed by the high feedback rating.I ordered takeout: wonton soup, egg rolls, and pork egg foo young. Everything was delicious and fresh. I will likely be ordering from them again before my trip ends!My only complaint was they didnt include any plastic silverware. Ill make sure to ask next time.
Best Chinese food ever. Nice restaurant, family owned, reasonable prices. The owners are from China, and brought their traditional recipes with them. We ate here two nights in a row, thats how good it was. The owner-husband is a gifted tenor and sings and plays piano during dinner.
I dont always do this but I am going to do it today. I took a chance on a restaurant I was passing and had passed many times. I checked the reviews which were almost all glowing but my experience was exactly the opposite. First off the wait was insane, the lady working the counter I thought was nice until she had me help bag my own carry out order and then told me I was doing it incorrectly. She then proceeded to chase me down as I was leaving because she said I forgot to pay but I had paid she was just so disorganized and it took so long to get my food that she had forgotten. The guy that came in after me got his food at the same time I did he had come in to order because they forgot about him on hold on the phone. Now for the food. I got a variety of items because when I go to a place for the first time I like to really see if I am going to return. The general tsos chicken extra spicy - was bland I did not know that was possible but it is. The house fried rice was ok except for the frozen peas and carrots. The egg roll and crab Rangoon both likely made in house and both without flavor. Lastly the hot and sour soup, It is a key to knowing if the restaurant is any good and it also had literally no flavor - it was neither hot nor sour. The problem may be that Helen was not cooking she was in the dining room peeping chives I think. I wish I had had the experience that others had but it may just be that their expectations were low. The food gets a 2 because it was hot and the rice was edible. I will not be returning
Let me just start off by saying that I have previously had the beef and broccoli form Helens and it was excellent!! That was when the first opened maybe a year and a half ago..? They also had their own delivery driver then. This time, there was an awful smell coming from the bag, wasnt appetizing at all and as soon as I opened my food I was worried. I took one bite of the beef and immediately spit it out. The rice had a rotten taste, some please tell me how that is possible?! The egg rolls were greasy and tasted like they had been sitting that way for quite a while. Also, they now use door dash, an oultsourced delivery service. First of all, they DOUBLED my order and i didnt realize it until he delivered it. I went back and looked at my bank account and they had charged me TWICE. I got multiple phone calls from a California number, which I thought was weird but when I answered no one answered, so I stopped picking it up. Turned out to be the delivery driver and when we finally got in contact he IMMEDIATELY started to argue with me about how I needed to put the apartment number on the address, which I had, but he was looking for a number and we use letters. He even pulled out his phone to try and show me where I was in the wrong!!! I was absolutely appalled, and I understand that that isnt Helens fault but it just added to my experience.
We always have an excellent experience at Helens Kitchen! Very friendly, and helpful staff. Luckily I always eat here with my chinese friend who knows their authentic chinese dishes. Do yourself a favor and order something out of the box (in the American-sense) and try authentic food, much better tasting! Youll never go back to the American-style food again! Green beans and pork, frog-leg, lamp stew, and others are all excellent. Portions are large and make for great leftovers. Prices are higher, but it is worth it in my opinion. One of the best experiences youll have here is when the owner plays the piano and sings for his customers!
Very authentic food. You know it’s a good place when the namesake is there. It reminded me of Chinese food from Chinatown in New York which can be hard to find in Columbus since there’s a lot of “Americanized” places. Highly recommend the dumplings, solid for Columbus area.
I have eaten here many times and its expensive but pretty good. the hot pepper chicken was really good, but i ordered the mala string beans to go and didnt care for it all. the chicken just wasent very good, i ate it any way tho. its a great place to dine-in, very clean.
Wow!! Stopped in for lunch yesterday and what a sweet surprise. Had the boiled fish in chili sauce with spicy green beans. One of if not the best Chinese meals I’ve ever had, right down to the rice. Pair you meal with a Tsingtao beer and you’ll be in food nirvana. Will definitely be back!
Go with authentic, skip the Americanized. Best Korean beef bulgogi Ive had! My daughter had orange chicken which was amazing. The banchans were delicious. I was afraid with it being a partly Chinese restaurant we wouldnt get any, so that alone made my day. It made my month that they were so delicious! The outside is unassuming but the inside is impressive. The service was friendly and generous. It was nice to meet the owner and the chef. We live in Akron/ Canton area and will njoy hesitate to come down just got Helens! Oh! The ragoons were the lightest and most flaky Ive ever had. Please give them lots of love and visit!!!
I wanted to like this place. We ordered eggplant, spicey pork belly, xio long bao and Kung pao chicken. The service was cold and unfriendly which did not help matters. The eggplant and pork belly was good, better than most places. The long Bao was off but not horrible. I have had frozen that was better. The Kung Pao chicken had no taste what’s so ever. I was not impressed at all. I would give it two stars but my kids like the eggplant and rice so I added the extra star for them and the fact the place has free Wifi.
Awesome restaurant! Definitely one of my favorite in Columbus. Even though service may be a little slow when it is crowded, the quality of food made up for it. If you like spicy food, try the dishes on their Chinese menu. Ive tried the following so far and they are good - cumin beef/mutton, spicy fish fillet with preserved vegetables, and dumplings in sichuan chilli. I also like their egg drop soup very much. There is a very fragrant broth taste. The boss, Helen, is a nice lady too.
I went to this place under the old ownership as well as the new. The new owners have renovated the restaurant and it has a much nicer atmosphere, but their menu is slightly lacking. The egg rolls arent as good as they used to be; they have a strange cilantro flavor. The General Tsos chicken is good.
Staff was pretty nice. The Korean sausage was not what its supposed to be at all. Its made with lots of mushy (cooked with too much liquid), when it should be made with clear noodles. It was also quite oily. The green beans were ok, but much much better than the Korean sausage
I ordered veggie dumplings for pickup, and I took them home to eat. Once I started eating, I noticed that half of them had chicken in them. I’m a vegetarian so I’m not thrilled that they got my order wrong and I accidentally ate meat. Additionally, they tasted just like the frozen kind I buy at Kroger and make at home. I don’t think I’ll be trying this again.
The place is unique, and the location isnt ideal but its definitely worth driving to. The food is great with chinese and korean offerings. There are 2 menus, one for general asian food and another for the more authentic dishes. Most of the dishes are better if eaten there since theyre served fresh bit still worth ordering out or delivered.
While my family and I were in Columbus we all wanted Chinese food. We werent sure where to go so I looked up Chinese restaurants in the area. This restaurant was the closest. We were a little worried at first because it looks a little weird from outside. I am so glad we decided to give it a try. This is the best chinese restaurant I have ever been to. The inside of the restaurant is actually very elegant and welcoming. The meal wasnt very expensive and the staff was really nice. I highly suggest giving the sichuan dry fried frog legs a try.
I wish I could rate 0 stars. THE ABSOLUTE SERVICE! When I arrived the place only had 2 tables. I ordered fried rice. 53 minutes later 2 other tables were served before my second refill of water. The server said online online, so many online. I waited another 25 minutes. I then spoke with the manager who asked me what I ordered. I told him Fried rice. He said Fried Rice??? Were out of fried rice. He threw his hands up like this is normal at a Chinese restaurant.. I ended up walking across the parking lot to waffle House.CHOOSE THE WAFFLE HOUSE INSTEAD
It was okay. We ate here after a long drive down since it was close and next to our hotel. The food was okay, and the staff was as friendly as you could get for someone sitting on their phone. They also gave us some weird cold leftovers wrapped in foil for some reason.
First of all, I live close to this place and this has become my regular spot, super adorable Asian lady named Helen is the owner and I went in there with a cold and was getting some food she gave me soup and said feel better, what an amazing experience! I highly recommend going here to a small mom and pop Chinese place with a grand piano, love it!! Food is amazing!
Get ready for something different! This isnt just the new and improved Helen. This is ALL new with Grand Opening in mid March 17. (so basically, this is the 2nd actual review since new owner)This is authentic regional cooking you probably havent tasted. Spoiler: Helen isnt Helen. You cant say her name, so call her Helen. And you wont recognize many of the dishes, so try something new.We were treated to the seasoned peanuts with dry fried anchovy appetizer. Simple and terrific. Just a little added fishy crunch to perfectlytoasted FRESH peanuts. Handmade vegetable potstickers were good, not great, not sure what vegs were in there, and the dipping sauce wasdarker and saltier than you might get elsewhere. But our entrees were NOT as salty as usual Chinese fare...and both were quite remarkable.Cilantro Pork was Covered with Chinese cilantro stems and leaves. Pretty spicy with lots of dry chiles thrown in. I would order it again. Cumin Beef was likewise inundated with toasted cumin seeds. Powerful and plenty.I would recommend it, but probably try something new next time. The menu lacks many of your old standards, yes: No Wor Su Gai or wonton soup, but Plenty of different style ribs, beef and pork dishes and some lamb entrees. Soups youve never heard of, and some Korean stuff you have heard of. I might not take the kids...unless they go for General Tso...I hope this place makes it. Im sure theyll change up the menu as they establish themselves. Get there while theyre still a bit naive and authentic. Atmosphere is pretty smart and comfortable. Full bar, good place for an adventurous date.-as Yoda would say: to Helen back would I go
Walked in saw no one was there...thinking uh oh. Ate there anyways it was awesome, food was fantastic large portion for cost, service was quick and great (no one else was there, but if you knew me and my group it was like serving 10-15 people so it was great) also an Asain worker got on the piano and starting signing (didnt know what he was signing didnt have translator) made the atmosphere even more unique. I will definitely eat here next time I visit Coolombus.
I ordered my food on Postmates and the order never was delivered . The driver just left without calling. I called helens and the lady can barely speak english nor did she not care that my order was never delivered. She insisted it was being delivered when I told her several times the driver came and left already. Its one thing if you cant speak English well and its another you cant comprehend anything I say in dire situations when I just dropped over 30 dollars on a order. Never again
Have you ever eaten really, really good Chinese food that was served to you by a grandmother in a former strip joint? If not, head to Helens and cross it off your bucket list. The meals are authentic and delicious, the prices are reasonable, and because it used to be a gentlemens club, there are mirrors everywhere so you can watch yourself eat.Order the Beef with Chinese Broccoli and prepare to have your faith in God restored.
I wanted to like it more, but the food was only OK, as was the service, as was the ambiance. I say I wanted to like it more, as the owner (or GM) I interacted with seemed to really care, and I got the impression they try, but it just didnt work out to well for my tastes. I could see myself trying again in a while, but I likely wont miss it until then.
I walked in sat down ordered hot tea and a cup of wonton soup sat there for 20 minutes drinking what they called tea but was clearly and I mean clearly not tea it was as clear as chicken broth I could see to the bottom of the cup normally when I get tea I can steep it myself. When I inquired as to what was taking so long I got a shrug of the shoulders and she said your food will be out shortly I said to her its soup its already cooked what am I waiting for? I stormed out of there after waiting 20 minutes for a mere cup of soup...absolutely horrible!
Helens apparently has been closed for over a week, according to the neighboring hotel staff (they also said I wasnt the first person today to try and pick up their order). Still let me order food online and the charge is pending on my cc. Will dispute it. Wish a message was recorded on the voicemail when calling the restaurant number.
If you like authentic Asian cuisine, this is the go-to place in Columbus. There is a broad selection of dishes and none have disappointed. Current favorite is Yantzou Fried Rice with 3 kinds of meat; the wok leaves it with smoky hints. It goes well with the Mala Beans. And there are the impromptu serenades by the tenor waiter who sings Europian classical arias in Italian accompanying himself on the grand piano. Eclectic!Btw, the street view pic is in error. Easy access, first right West of the I-71/161 Dublin-Granville exchange, follow the road to the right ...
Worst customer service ever.1. After the first refill, this guy told my friend that he wont make any profit if he gives him another refill.2. It says close at 930pm, 855pm he asked us to pay, he said put your guys card on here.3. Telling us more than three times to leave a tip. We arent first day in the u.s, we know the rules. this is the worst customer service ever. Very rude.
Horrible service. had a bad experience there. A while back was getting ready to pay and the guy that was serving us snatched a 10 dollar bill out of my hand (mind you he didnt speak any english) so i could give him the right tip. Rudest thing ever. I was flabbergasted. Haven been there since.
Had the Xiaolong buns, Shao Mai, scallion pancake and salt & pepper shrimp, fish and squid. All were absolutely delicious, but the Shao Mai... wow, so amazing. There was also a brief aria of what I can only assume was chinese opera(and piano) preformed by the gentleman who waited on me, it was brilliant.

2022-02-05Not the best flavored Chinese foods. It seems that the restaurant has adopted its foods which have lost some of its authentic Chinese flavors. For example, the hot pepper it uses in the two dishes we ordered are jalapenos, instead of some more traditional hot peppers found in other Chinese restaurants around the country. The restaurant is clean, the staff members are friendly and accommodating.Due to the lack of serving staff, it does allow for dine-in for lunch on the Saturday we visited. However, after requesting using its space without the traditional service offered for a dine-in, the owner happily allowed so. Another family followed suit shortly after us.

2022-05-14Only in town one night and needed a quick dinner before a concert. Helen’s was amazing!Soup Dumplings, Hot and Spicy Dumplings, Mongolian Lamb and Shrimp Pad Thai were all delicious. Entrees were large enough to have for lunch the next day, and just as tasty! Good price, excellent food and very friendly “mom and pop” service.

2021-08-03Unassuming little restaurant behind the waffle house. If youre looking for fine dining Chinese food, this is definitely not it.Friendly and fast service. The food is decent. I was pleasantly surprised by the Fish in Chili Oil dish as it was really good!Dim sum though? Not too impressed. I guess if youre really craving dim sum, this would do in a pinch. Drinks are all bottled and you pick from their fridge at the front. Even water is a $1 dollar bottle of kirkland water.Overall, small town expectations. Gave it 4 stars for the fish in chili oil!

2022-05-15Had my birthday dinner here, was so fun. Paid for food and we got the venue for free, food was delicious and alot, and they provided takeout packs for my friend for the leftovers( it was a buffet) also owners were nice and provided all our needs for the party. FYI: I did my deco myself and we brought our own music.

2022-05-18We have enjoyed Helen’s Kitchen and loved the food. However on Sunday 5/16 we ordered three meals, and we all ended up sick on Monday. I’m not throwing the restaurant under the bus but what happened to the good food and service?

2022-02-22This place is a diamond in the rough. My son wanted Chinese food after one of his hockey games, and we came upon the pictures of Chinese dumplings on Google, and we just had to try it (thanks Kung Fu Panda...). The place has some really cool architectural features on the inside that youd never know from looking at the exterior. The food was very good, and typical pricing. We ordered the dumplings and several other dishes that we havent tried before, something we try to do with new places, but the menu wasnt as varied as many other Chinese restaurants. Still, there were some common as well as some specialty dishes. The food was plenty and great tasting and we came out happy and full. Were putting this place in our pocket for the next time.

2022-02-25I really wanted to like this place. The staff was very nice, however the place seems a little run down. No seating available. I got soup dumplings (Xiao long bao) which these really arent (the staff warned that they arent filed with broth). I also got Helens special pork dumplings. Everything seemed to lack flavor and was not at all what Im used to seeing.

2022-05-15Came for the soup dumplings and was not disappointed. Orange and General Tsos chicken is solid too. Better than most other Chinese food Ive tried in the Columbus Area.

2022-03-26We decided to try a new restaurant for dim sum and now sad we did. The waitress refused when I asked 2x what she would suggest - just tried to hurry away. The food wasnt very good and we didnt eat part of it. Also asked for water and we were forced to buy a bottle for $1.25 - say what??There was only one other table seated the whole time we were there so I guess that speaks volumes.
