A piece of history right here. I dont know how many times I passed this house not knowing what it represented. It is in the process of being restored and you see the work in progress.Nice to see the progress on the restoration. Highly recommend the hard hat tour. You learn a lot about the restoration, and the guide is quite knowledgeable.
We took our junior Girl Scout troop to the Harriet Beecher Stowe house to learn about womens suffrage and work towards earning the Suffrage Centennial patch. The girls (4th grade) loved it! The Director Christina Hartlieb who led the event did an amazing job teaching the girls and keeping their attention. I was very impressed and highly recommend this event to other troops or to anyone interested in history.
The guides are volunteers, so hate to be critical, but the one we had was unprofessional and seemed like a lot of the snipits of stories were untrue after I researched online. Listened to the other tour guide while walking around the home who seemed to have much more credible stories and professional approach. Its not in a good area and we were also approached by a homeless woman asking for money while we were looking at the front of the home and the historical sign.
What a gem! Stopped in on a gloomy Saturday afternoon and the gentleman working today literally gave me a personal guided tour! Walked me through the families entire life, relocation to Cincinnati and how this impacted Harriet’s book Uncle Toms Cabin. Although a lot of his commentary was also documented on panels you can read in each room, I found it so kind that the tour was even offered! Definitely recommend for anyone to go, as we have to support the preservation of sites like this!!
We were passing through Cincinnati and decided to see a few places while we were there. We arrived after they were closed for the day but we were still able to see and photograph them. It looks like her house has been well preserved. It wasnt in the greatest neighborhood and there were beer cans and bottles in paper bags strewn on the sidewalks. Its unfortunate that the residents dont care more about their city.
The Harriet Beecher Stowe House has an important story to tell about racism, slavery, boundaries, and attitudes. Harriets father was president of a religious school. Students had different responses to slavery and the underground rail road. Guides do an excellent job of explaining. They also show architectural details of the house revealed thru renovation and research.

2021-12-08I am researching a new tour focused on the Undergroud Railroad and found myself in Cincinnati where Herriet Beecher Stowe lived for a time. The home was closed during my stay but, they were gracious enough to open for my visit. They were passionate, informative, friendly, and accommodating. I highly recommend this tour for locals and tourists.

2022-05-29I really enjoyed the tour. Even though its still going through some construction it was still exciting to see the before. Id definitely recommend to go now before everything changes so that if you go back you get to see the before and after. Its also really interesting to see how theyre trying to figure out how it was before it was remodeled. I know Ill be going back

2021-07-30If youre in Cincinnati I recommend going here. Its a short museum. Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote Uncle Toms Cabin of course. Fascinating to hear where the content of the story came from. She either lived or talked to people ababout stories that had a life in the book. Family life sad. A child of hers died of cholera. She used that tragedy to help get the correct emotions when writing about families separated through slave trades. Odd to understand that she was worried that the North would see it as too harsh on the South so she tried to tame it down. However the South vilified her portrayal as inaccurate (too harsh) not the North. Also fascinating was to find out there why Uncle Tom is such a negative term. If youve read the book you know he suffered greatly because he would not beat other slaves. Why bad? Actors trying to make a buck sensationalized the story and portrayed him incorrectly.Forgot to take many pictures as I was reading. There are two I took. The museum is trying to find the identity of these people. If you have any information please contact them.
