Nice walk on a pretty day. So much history to read about. The trees there are also great to walk around and see. The only downer was that it appears that their little museum is closed right now. A sign on the door said walking tours on first Fridays at 12:30. I would have liked to have learned more as this was our first time to visit this area.

What an interesting place!! Right in the middle of a small city. And not far away more inside a golf course. Someday we may know more of the significance of places like this.

2,000 year old prehistoric Native American site. Relatively well preserved. Beautiful park, fascinating mystery.

Ohio Prehistoric landmark! Well maintained beautiful site. It’s amazing to walk through an ancient structure, especially one that is thousands of years old. There are picnic tables for public use throughout the park. Great place to bring your family or pets. Dogs are required to be on a leash. Park is open from sun up to sundown.

What can I say... such huge area for walk inside the earthworks.... it works on donations, and their museum was awesome, the guy working there gave our children a nice speech about certain stones and places where to find them and the use natives will use them for. We loved it here!!!

Of course, I am amaze by the lost civilization, but also on how well it is being maintained and preserved with a shoestring budget, and it is free to visit, with lots of parking spots. The museum has very good materials that could excite curiosity of anyone, but note that it has only limited opening hours, especially during the epidemic.

See my post about the Earthworks. I greatly wish there was more from the Native American perspective here.

Beautiful, sacred historic site. We visited the open house at Octagon Earthworks and drove over to see the Great Circle too, in the hopes that the little museum might be open on open house day, even though its normally closed on weekends. To our surprise, it was! A very friendly & helpful volunteer gave us more info about both sites and there were two small rooms of informative displays about the site and its history. We also walked around inside the Great Circle for awhile and marveled at the scale of the place. No photos do it justice, the walls are higher than I had pictured. Definitely a must-see. All of the Newark Earthworks are a treasure.

Totally worth a stop. Small, so it wont take you too long to explore, but a great interactive video about the regions archeology and Native American past.

We really enjoyed our trip to the Great Circle. Try to imagine what this place would have been like over 1500 years ago when the Hopewell culture was thriving.
