So cute! Lovely stay and so close to all the museums. I docked a star because I had to deal with drunk wedding party dudes harassing me at the mini bar. Since it’s right in front of the elevators I couldn’t avoid them even if I skipped ordering a beer. I didn’t love it.
Booked our room in March 2021. Paid for the room when booking. Called two days in advance of arrival (February 16th) to confirm our room, which was confirmed and received a confirmation number at that time. We arrived to the hotel on February 18th to find out we didn’t have a room because Lebron James and Klutch Sports had rented the hotel out for the entire weekend. We’ve never received a refund of our money and then had to pay more money at another hotel as a result with no assistance or accountability from the Glidden House. However, I did receive a cancellation email an hour after arriving and trying to check in. Rude front desk placing blame on the customer who took the proper steps, but she however wasn’t short for excuses. We will stay at the Marriott the next time we are in Cleveland, where we received a friendly and inviting staff.
They let us check-in early which was nice. The hotel is unique and cool too see the old hotel vs what they added later. The hotel rooms need some updating for sure. The windows need some serious cleaning. The walls are insanely thin and you can hear peoples conversations and a women coughing the entire night. The Bed in the room is higher up than normal hotels making it harder to get in and out of and also you bang your knee trying to walk by as it sticks out so far. There was no coffee in the lobby although the booking service says there would be. But it seems there was a wedding in the hotel which took priority over all other guests. The bar is just a tiny little thing but the wedding was out in the hall which is right in front of the elevator making it near impossible to get back to our room. The caterers were loud outside our window till past 11 pm. The bed also made a creaking sound with every small movement on the bed. The breakfast is not like it is pictured on the site at all. It had eggs, sausage, toast, bagels, fruit, waffles, orange juice, coffee and tea. The location is great and the person at the front desk was nice.
Beautiful property, easy check in. The room was very clean. One of the best parts about this hotel is the location. It’s in a really pretty and safe part of town right off case westerns campus. We walked 15 minutes to little Italy and had a great meal over there at Mia Bella and never felt we had to worry. The hot breakfast in the hotel was excellent, I’ve been to lots of hotels and most continental breakfasts are pitiful but this one had hot eggs, potatoes, waffles and sausage, as well as other normal fixings like muffins and coffee. It was good! One constructive criticism is the bed frames were super creaky, but the bed itself was fine- I’ve had much worse, thankfully it was a medium/medium firm bed. Most hotels have firm beds where it’s like sleeping on a rock slab. Also it would be nice if the rooms had a mini fridge because we couldn’t store our leftovers from dinner.Overall, would recommend this hotel if you’re staying in Cleveland. Has an added bonus that it’s right on campus so you can get to feel like a young student again lol. It was very clean, and the historical wood carvings on the walls were a really cool touch.
The Glidden House is the perfect wedding venue! It’s the most romantic and intimate venue, and when we were there we felt so at home. Carrie and Jennifer are wonderful to work with, and they make sure that your wedding day is stress free. Our in town guests loved Glidden for its beauty and hospitality. Our out of town guests loved the location as they were within walking distance of the best museums and attractions in Cleveland. It’s the perfect venue for your romantic and magical wedding!
I came in just to experience the lounge and am already planning my return. Working nearby, I decided Glidden House would be a good pre-dinner meet-up after I learned that it was open to the public. The bartender, Tony, was warm and welcoming. I explained that I had the sniffles and he made the perfect drink for me. He was engaging and. thoughtful - a wonderful addition to our night. The selection was also incredible if you love fancy cocktails!
Nice place and clean room! There is lots of charm throughout the hotel, but the room felt mostly like a regular hotel room. We did get a credit for a drink and we ended up only having to pay $2 extra to get s whole bottle of wine! So that was very nice. The breakfast was pretty good. Both mornings we were there the breakfast was the same, but it was still good! Overall a very nice stay. The location is perfect to get to a lot of great things too.
This place was just OK. Excellent location, in the city but with lots of trees around. Art museum, Case WR University, and lots of other attractions within walking distance. Mostly clean and well maintained property. But I expected better. Most staff did not wear masks, which made the no-housekeeping-because-of-covid policy a transparent excuse for the management to save on expenses. Loads of plastic waste (plates, cutlery, cups, etc.) at breakfast. Cracked sink in bathroom. Could easily hear conversations happening in the next guest room.
I brought my husband here for his birthday (we usually stay at the Tudor Arms, but their customer service had become... lacking). Every point of our stay was pitch perfect. The friendly valet who first greeted us set the tone for the whole stay. The young lady at the front desk was positively effervescent as she checked us in. The room was spotless! The bed was luxurious. The different young lady who checked us out was equally delightful (and efficient! She was fielding phone calls, answering questions from staff, and even handing the caterers and florists who were setting up for a wedding)! TNT housekeeping staff who passed us in the hallway were just a friendly. What a lovely place to stay!
If you want to have a beautiful wedding, you should have your wedding at the Glidden House! Your wedding will be like a dream! Our wedding was on Labor Day weekend, and it was unbelievable!!!First of all, the bride’s chambers are amazing! There’s a suite with a bedroom and living room area with plenty of room for the bride to get ready with her bridesmaids! ❤️ The venue itself is beautiful!!! There’s so much room for your guests and great places for photos!! The table settings are also beautiful!! The dance floor is is amazing! We had about 100 people dancing the whole night!! The service is excellent! Carrie and her team made sure everything was done just right!!! Zack Bruell Catering Service catered our dinner, and it was also amazing!!! If you’re planning a wedding, you should definitely consider the Glidden House! It will be a very memorable experience and your guests will have an amazing time!!! ❤️👰♀️🤵♂️The hotel rooms were also very nice, comfortable and well stocked! Everything was above and beyond expectations!! Top notch!!My only regret is that we didn’t get more photos of the venue and our wedding props!
Hospitality was good; breakfast was execrable -- not at all as shown in pictures; muffins and packaged baked goods very poor quality and not warmed up; chafing dish eggs terrible; excuses were that COVID placed severe restrictions on service capacity. Bar/bartender very good. My main complaint is that the beds in rooms are very very high (prob. 30)for avg. height person and there are no grab bars in the bathroom (bathtub and toilet); I am puzzled that the City code for occupancy permits this to exist. I was told that the accessible rooms have lower beds and grab bars, but this should be mandatory in all hotel bedrooms.Otherwise this is a very nice small hotel, and well located in the cultural/academic center of Cleveland, walkability is excellent. Public rooms for weddings, receptions very pretty.
On the National Registry of Historic Locations. Absolutely beautiful! Small and intimate. Feels like youre home with benefits. Rooms are beautifully decorated with period accoutrements. Loved the elevated bed, soft sheets and generous pillows! The staff are friendly and welcoming. The concierge, James, was fantastic and knows all - restaurants, what to order, places of interest and anything else you might want to know about the area. Super helpful! Thank you to the entire staff! You all made are stay unforgettable!
Very nice hotel . Location is close to all the museums on University circle, the front desk personnel are extremely helpful , One even gave me a mini history class of the mansion pointing out little things I would have never noticed otherwise . If you get a chance to stay here definitely do it. Our room was clean and well put together , finally having a warm breakfast is always nice . Im sure we will be returning.
Im really not sure what all the fuss is about for this hotel. The rooms are sparsely appointed; heat/AC unit is quite noisy. Blinking lights on the smoke detector and full, lighted display on room telephone so good luck getting the room dark at night to sleep. No fridge so nowhere to store food. No ceiling fan or fan in the bathroom. We booked for 4 nights and were told there would be no housekeeping for the entire stay. Okay...but give us more than 2 towels and 2 instant coffee packets. For the cost per night it doesnt seem like we get very much. Breakfast is grab and go breakfast burritos or calzones. Disappointing. Staff is very nice and the hotel is extremely clean. Just not sure what all the fuss is about....?????
***** beware****Check is on After 4pm!! Closer to 5pm.we waited over 4hrs for their highness to allow us to enter our room. Only after we raised a fuss that there are 4 cleaners cleaning common areas and surely they can clean our room 1st did they move their a@@!! No restaurants no bars in the house. It really ruined the evening. Not a biz hotel its clean nice decor in university area, but no tea no linked bag in room nothing of convenience!! BTW we had a suite!!. (Bad move as regular room got done a d our staff checked on ok)
Stated here during the first attempt for my mothers lung transplant. Staff was immediately very friendly and compassionate about our situation being empathetic and listening to our rambling but not being pushy at all.The home is beautiful! The carvings and plaster work are very very cool. There is also a full time concierge who can give those interested a little more information about the history of the property. Though it was sold out the day we stayed, the botanical gardens are across the street as well as a museum. We got a double room and found it to be about the perfect size. Bathrooms are very nice, clean, and well maintained. The beds are comfortable with very comfortable pillows. Wifi is good enough that I could play some low latency games online while I waited.Breakfast was boxed instead of their normal European style breakfast, but that is totally understandable. For the price we paid compared to everywhere around us, I feel like we got a wonderful deal. Not a single part of our stay was unenjoyable - I very highly recommend staying here! I for sure will be visiting again next time we have an attempt for a transplant!
This was my first stay, but it wont be my last. The room (queen size) was cozy and warm upon arrival. Bathroom was clean. They have complimentary tea and coffee in the dining area. Breakfast was awesome with a variety of vittles including: eggs, breads, pastries, fruits and french toast. (I was really impressed that this was included.) The location is central to all the tourist attractions in University Circle. Plus theres a bus that goes directly downtown close by.We flew into Cleveland and took the train from the airport to Little Italy/University Circle. The walking distance from the train station to Glidden House was about 12 minutes with a small rolling suitcase. It was really convenient without a car.If youre looking for a bit of charm outside of the big chains, Id highly recommend Glidden House.
Beautiful, old historic hotel. Modern rooms. Clean, spacious. Staff was friendly. The lounge was quaint and provided great drinks. The breakfast buffet was out of this world good. Small skillet French toast, perfectly poached eggs. Assortment of fruit. Was very impressed. The location is minutes away from great sightseeing and Cleveland art museum. Would definitely stay here again!
My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary and honestly, we were pretty disappointed.1. The price for the rooms was very steep for the quality. I have stayed in chain hotels that are better. The beds and pillows were uncomfortable, we didn’t have enough blankets, especially for December, and the shower took 20 mins to get the water past a tepid temperature.2. Breakfast was nothing to write home about. I’ve had better breakfasts in chain hotels. It wasn’t even that tasty, but we were thankful to have food. For what we paid, it was not worth it.3. Location is deceptive. You are basically staying in the middle of Case Western Reserve. The pictures online look like a serene country area, not crowded or anything, but it’s smack dab in the middle of everything. For us, that was disappointing. For some, I understand it would be perfect.4. You have to pay for parking. We were already paying through the nose for this place, and then found a parking fee on our final bill. That was frustrating. The parking lot is extremely crowded and when there was an event at the location, we didn’t have a spot at all, even though we were overnight guests.5. The staff is very helpful and friendly. That was definitely a plus.6. It may sound silly, but the shampoo and conditioner were really nice. I was pleased with those!Over all, it was mediocre - especially considering what we paid. If the rooms hadn’t been the price they were, we would likely have less disappointment, but the quality of rooms, parking, amenities, and food did not reflect the price. If we had money to burn, then I guess this place would be fine. We don’t, and we were expecting much more class. The photos and website made it seem much nicer than it actually was. Although the Christmas decor was lovely!!
Weve driven by the eye catching Glidden House for years and finally decided to make it a part of our stay-cation. Our suite was beautiful and felt more like a high end apartment than a hotel room. There was a wedding taking place at the same time so we didnt get a chance to walk around the property on this visit but loved our stay nonetheless. Highly recommend!
Beautiful place, accommodations were better than expected. Clean and inviting. The downstairs lobby and bar area are beautiful. The artwork throughout the building is lovely. The breakfast is complimentary and quite delicious as well as hearty. Was sad to leave and the bartender, Billy was helpful and fun to chat with during our family stay.
Comfortable place in heart on University Circles museums. Most are within walking distance. It is on the free shuttle, blue and green lines. We jumped on one of the shuttles for our own unguided tour of the area. Due to COVID concerns there is no buffet breakfast. Although, the boxed breakfast of muffin, yogurt and an orange is good enough to get you started. No housekeeping will enter the room. There was only one bar of soap to move between bath and sink. No bath gel in toiletries. You can ask for another bar of soap but why should you have to. Most hotels will supply one bar for bath, another for face. Only one roll of toilet paper available in the room. Not cool to run out in the middle of the night. Fortunately, facial tissue was nearby.Self-park, outdoor parking is an extra charge for $10/day. Couldnt see rational for that.Would still stay again with these considerations in mind.
This is a great location. Breakfast in the am was very good. The rooms are nice and if I go back again I will not for a suite just so I get a fridge. Old school mansion decor . Bar has great coctails. Staff is friendly and knows the area well. Super close to all the museums and near walking to distance to great restaurants. We ate a nice french restaurant and after words went to Jolly Scholar Brewery all walking distances. Heard some live music. Great evening. Lots of late night food options also near by
Beautiful! My first time at the Glidden House for an outdoor wedding and indoor reception. The staff was very courteous and helpful. (Im in a wheelchair). Food, appetizers, drinks were delicious. Staff worked very hard. They were so solicitous and attentive. The setting both indoors and out was wonderful and it was a perfect day weather wise.My only suggestion would be to add grab bars to the handicapped stall in the bathroom. Those would have been helpful to me. Also, an automatic door opener for main doors into and out of the bathroom would be much appreciated. Those main doors are so heavy for someone with rheumatoid arthritis! Thank you to the Glidden House staff for a great experience. Your hard work and attentiveness made for a wonderful, enjoyable experience at the Glidden House!
Beautiful old mansion turned into hotel. Staff is very nice! We had the pleasure of dealing with Jared and Perez, both were super and very accommodating! Cozy atmosphere, fireplaces, a bar in the evenings, close to restaurants and lots of things nearby to do! Even the other guests were all happy!
We stayed for a wedding and had a good time. The wedding coordinator was friendly and always had a smile. The bartender was so busy but he did a great job! The lady at breakfast both days was happy and helpful. My suggestion would be for the wedding assistant. She was not as pleasant (no smile or conversation). Myself and other guests felt the same. She seemed stressed the entire time and it showed. I did not know about the hotels “liquor” license. She didn’t care to explain...just snatched the drink and kept moving. If she would have kindly said you are not allowed or please remove I would have obliged.
A great place for a wedding. Banquet hall, and other rooms made for a wonderful reception. Staff was courteous and inviting. Overnight room Rates were not unreasonable. We attended for a friends wedding, who reserved a block of rooms. I had to call to book the room (as the online system showed them as all booked). The rooms themselves were very nice. Bed was comfortable. Only issue, was that the walls were not well insulated, so sound carries reasonably well (overheard the next room discussing breakfast plans in the morning). As a guest, it was a perfect place to host an event.
In this historic house resides a excellent hotel. The grounds are expertly kept and very well done with a lot of flowers and shrubs. There is parking if staying mostly down the one side and behind. Night patio seating area and a little bar for drinks right by the patio door. Inside is also very clean and nice all fitting the building. The room had a comfortable bed, desk, chair and nice tv. Bathroom is a little small, but shower is nice size. Room was excellent and comfortable. The staff was top notch being friendly and helpful. The price was inline for ares and would stay again for sure.
Wonderful historic building with modern amenities. Located in a great location! Clean and safe. Very convenient to Botanical Garden, Museum of Nat Hist, Case Western and CIA, can take bus down Euclid or light rail to downtown. Rooms are good sized, double queen room a little tight, but has big bathroom. Rooms are clean, bright, parking on premesis which is a huge plus. Furnishings starting to get dated, but perfectly fine. Nice breakfast, quaint bar. Highly recommend.
The location was pretty great amongst the university architecture. Very pretty area. The building itself was neat and old. Cleanliness wasnt the best Ive seen, this was more of an attention to detail issue with spots on the hard surfaces in the room. Breakfast was awesome. Probably best ever for hotel standards. $10 to park though in an area that really wasnt downtown seemed a little much. Overall...not bad for a nostalgic themed hotel.
A very comfortable and nice place to stay in Cleveland. It is located in a very nice neighborhood close to meusems and botanical garden. They have a very good complimentary breakfast. And the lady in charge, she is really nice and her smile brighten up your day.The rooms are pretty clean and and the bed was so comfortable. I really enjoyed my stay
Staying at the Glidden house is like a glimpse back in time. Beautiful decor and intricate 19th century styling adorn every corner of this facility. They have ample space for large gatherings, but the rooms can sometimes feel tight. Located in the heart of university circle, this place is within walking distance to many amazing museums and interesting places to visit. The bar tender is a little grumpy, but the overall service is excellent. I highly recommend it!
Everything about this place was amazing. From the moment we stepped foot into the former Glidden family mansion to the comfort of the rooms and the amazing breakfast the next day, we were wowed. Its centrally located to practically everything University Circle had to offer and all within walking distance. Their suites are spacious and comfortable (loved the heater bathroom floors). The staff goes out of their way to help guests. The most romantic times weve had together since our wedding. We will be back, thats for sure
My wife and I stayed here for my birthday. Its a beautiful place and the breakfast buffet the next morning was very nice. The location is great because youre within walking distance of several museums and lots of restaurant options. I highly recommend the package that includes the four museum tickets with your stay at the hotel.
The hotel itself was very charming and decorated nicely for the holidays. The breakfast was very good with a nice variety of food. The room was clean and comfortable and the front desk staff helped me sort out an issue with my rental car. The only minor thing was that the beds were a bit creaky when you moved around on them.
Historical, conveniently located near museums, botanical gardens, bowling and more. Clean, quiet, beautiful building and great staff. Complimentary drink tickets were slid under the door on the first night. Billy, the bartender is awesome. The complimentary breakfast is better than the average hotel breakfast. I would highly recommend this place. You will not regret staying here.
We came to the Glidden House for my sons wedding. I dont have enough superlatives for the day!! It was absolutely wonderful. Every person we met was so pleasant and helpful. From James when we came in, to Jason the bartender, to the ladies at breakfast, everyone was smiling and asking, How can I help you? And the ladies who ran the wedding...Carrie and Kim THE BEST. Every need, every want, any concerns, all taken care of for us. And as for the food, oh my goodness, it was truly the best food Ive ever had at a wedding! It wasnt wedding food it was best restaurant food!! But of course it was, it was from LAlbatros! (If you havent been there, you need to go, its right around the corner!)Our only complaint was that the beds are so plush and high that we had to jump to get into bed! So if you are vertically challenged like most of the family, you may want to bring a stool!! Thank you Glidden House for making our special day even more special.
Loved the hotel.....breakfast was excellent. Only issue I had was the second card I had to put up for incidentals. There was already a card on file to cover incidentals AND I was told when I checked in nothing would be held on the card....WRONG. I wished they would have put the 50.00 on the card on file but........ other than that, I had no complaints. Breakfast staff was superb
We had a fantastic stay here for my daughters graduation from Case Western Reserve Law School. The law school is right across the street and much of the CWRU campus is within walking distance. The old world charm is so much nicer than the big box hotels, and the rooms were clean, comfortable and nicely appointed. Complimentary breakfast buffet is a nice bonus. Beware tho - they fill up more than a year ahead of events like graduation.
Lovely old manchin hotel. They always take care of my wife and I when we stay there. Safe neighborhood. Awesome complimentary breakfast. Also they have a nice bar area on the first floor for guests to enjoy. And Jimmy Johns can deliver there if you want to dine in your room opposed to going out for dinner. We have stayed many times and each stay gets better.
More like 3.5 stars... Older, but elegant. Could use some fine tuning. Staff is amazing and food was superb. Bed is comfortable, but sits kinda high off the ground. There is no plug near the bed so I was stuck with having to charge my phone (which is also my alarm clock) across the room. Kind of inconvenient. Wish the windows were double paned because I was on the 3rd floor but could still hear folks talking outside.
I used this setting as a place to propose to my now fiancèe. The hotel, for cleveland, was on the high end of price so, I expected a few amenities. When we arrived the location was perfect, as we were going to Severance hall and the art museum. When I was checking-in the was an employee standing in the entryway just looking at us. He did not welcome us nor guide us. No big deal. We went directly to the desk and checked-in. I asked for a luggage cart for our luggage. I was told they have a concierge and he would help us. It was the creepy guy that was just staring. We asked about the cart and he pointed it out and said over there. Why would a hotel have a concierge and not a bell boy in a hotel with three floors. If you are staying in the suites the luggage cart is useless. This concierge did not welcome nor offer anything other than over there. OK not a big deal. Our room was on the corner of the mansion with fantastic views. Very nice bathroom with a heated floor. How neat is that? We had early dinner reservations so We went down to have an adult beverage at the bar before we left. The bartender was a super nice, friendly, professional, and many many more compliments but Im blathering. Upon our return we talked with her some more and had a few beverages. She helped us with getting late-night food delivery. The breakfast was served until 10 am so we decided to sleep-in until 9. We went down to breakfast to a huge disappointment. No where to sit. We had to carry our plates through the hotel and down what felt like eating in a hallway. It appeared that they wait until all food is gone before it is refilled. No eggs. Empty yogurt station empty. Oatmeal station empty. Ok no big deal. We went to the art museum and a few other stops. We returned to the room at 2:30. Our room was not visited by room service. Very disappointing. At 3:30 there is a knock at the door asking if we want maid service. Wow. 3:30? Im not waiting in the hallway or staring at her while she kicks my dirty clothes into the corner. OK No big deal. We are still here. It is our 2nd morning and Im not expecting much. I travel extensively for work. I stay at 3 to 4 hotels a week. Lets just say I have had better experiences at a Comfort Inn. This hotel appears to ride on its looks and location not its service. They do not have a restaurant. They do not have turn down service. They do not have a bell boy. The bar does not open until 4:00. The breakfast is not that big a deal. The food provided is the same for chain hotels just in a nicer package. Clean towels and a made bed would have been nice. Each one of these items I have mentioned is not something I would even mention. For over $250 a night in Cleveland, I would expect more. All of the things make me think I should have went elsewhere. Dont get me wrong. This hotel is very pretty and I couldnt ask for a better location. Was that enough? Im thinking not.
Our son goes to CWRU so we had to give it a try and what a wonderful experience it was. Its a beautiful hotel that is steeped in the rich history of the DuPont family and other great stories (HINT - ASK ABOUT THE PICTURE OF THE TITANIC - INCREDIBLE!). Its also within a short walking distance of the botanical garden and a museum and right next door is a small but cozy restaurant (hint make reservations).Highly recommended to stay there at least once, whether your child goes to Case Western or not. You wont regret it.
Last night my daughter and I stayed at the Glidden House and were so pleased; the hotel is so quiet and got a great night sleep! Our room was clean, no funky smells! The staff from the person who checked us in, the woman who maned the breakfast bar. There was quite a choice, fresh fruit, apples, oranges and blueberries; the blueberry muffins were great, a choice of orange juice, and apple, choices of teas, coffee. The house keeping staff were so nice too. The house is close enough to walk from the house to the Batanical Gardens, and other places; check out time is noon but you can leave your parked car there until 4!
I stayed at the Glidden House with my wife for a night. The room was very clean and comfortable with a nice modern look. All of the Christmas decorations throughout the building were very nice and gave the hotel a cozy charm. The bartender was very knowledgeable and made delicious mixed drinks. The foods available for the breakfast buffet were very delicious. A very nice variety which includes oatmeal with many toppings, pastries, fried eggs, and small sweet potato pancakes in a personal sized cast iron skillet. The Glidden House is in a great location with many fun places nearby such as the Cleveland Botanical Garden and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. My wife and I had a wonderful stay and will definitely be recommending the Glidden House to our friends and family.
Our experience at Glidden House was marred by several factors: we were awakened by housekeeping woman pounding on door and being verbally rude to us; the staff has been unresponsive after several attempts to retrieve a shirt left behind in room; the breakfast included stone cold eggs and otherwise uncarefully prepared items. In addition, the rooms are crowded with furniture and it was impossible not to keep banging toes and legs into bed frame. The beds themselves are unusually high up off floor and may cause problems for anyone with restricted movement or other bodily issues. The location is very convenient to Unversity Circle but for us not worth the discomfort and aggravation. Be prepared to pay additional $10 fee to park in the hotels own on-site lot. Not going back.
Thought I would take a break from the chain hotels and stay at the Glidden House as it looked nice on-line. I called them when I landed in Cleveland at noon and requested an early check-in. When I arrived at 12:30 pm, they said the guests had just checked out of the suite I booked, so it wasnt ready. I said fine, I would go have lunch, take a walk and come back. I presumed that like other nice hotels, they would ask housekeeping to make cleaning my room a priority as I was waiting to check-in, but they didnt. When I came back at 3pm still wasnt ready. I said I understood that they were sold out the night before but was told when I called earlier they werent busy tonight. Jim the manager, offered no apology as to my room not being ready, but instead copped an attitude and told me to come back at 4pm, their check in time and maybe my room would be ready. I said Maybe it would be ready? and he said Yes, maybe. Apparently managers there arent required to have good customer skills. I asked for my luggage back that they were storing, told them to cancel my reservation and walked a block to the Courtyard Marriott where I was graciously greeted by the front desk clerk and quickly checked into a room even though I did not have a reservation.
We visited the hotel in conjunction with a college visit. The rooms are furnished extremely well, and overall the hotel is done in a very beautiful, classic style. The staff were very helpful, and the food was good for a free breakfast. The location is excellent, being essentially on Case Western campus. Id absolutely recommend this hotel to someone visiting the area.
We stay at the Glidden House about once a month when we come to town to attend the Cleveland Symphony. We love the old world atmosphere, the proximity to the arts, and the friendliest of all the staff!!! The rooms are always clean, beds are comfy, and sitting in the sunroom for breakfast never fails to get our day off to a great start.
Glidden House is a beautiful mansion situated near the museums and university. The courtyard is easily my favorite spot, where you can enjoy local beers from the bar inside and enjoy the flowery fragrance and mild summer weather. The breakfast buffet is complete and has baked goods from the restaurant next door. I would definitely stay here again.
I stayed at the Glidden House for 3 nights in September 2016. Everything was wonderful. Clean rooms, helpful and courteous staff, lovely surroundings, delicious breakfast. This staff IS interested in you having a perfect stay and I found out they go out of their way to make you comfortable. I left another hotel in the area after one night (nightmare) and thought I was in heaven when I checked into the Glidden House. Job well done!
Hotel is excellent and in an amazing location. Service though, especially late at night like 11ish 12ish is pretty terrible. Ask them to get us some stuff and our keys were glitching and nobody really cared. Had to go down like 4 to 5 times from the 3rd floor to get stuff done.
Upscale bed-and-breakfast breakfast very nice place to stay has a bar and restaurant complimentary breakfast for guests very very nice right by the circle of museums in Cleveland Art Museum to History Museum raped by Case Western Reserve The Institute of music. For breakfast I had bacon eggs and french toast and a huge cinnamon Danish
This charming small hotel feels like you are in Europe. Ample breakfast with a lovely sunroom for dining as well as an outdoor patio. They even have an espresso machine for guests to make their own espresso at breakfast. The hotel staff is always very pleasant. One block to the Case Western Reserve University dorms. It has been perfect for visiting our daughter at CWRU.
The #Glidden House is without question the best accommodation that I have ever experienced. The customer service and helpful attitude of the staff is absolutely excellent. The overall ambiance of the facility is exceptional and consistent with the character and charm of the rich legacy surrounding this building. If you need to stay in Cleveland Ohio, the #Glidden House is THE PLACE.
Everyone at the Glidden house is amazing. They took great care of my wife and I as well as all of our family and friends at our wedding reception. Could not asked for a better wedding reception venue. Carrie, Louise and Billy are beyond nice and really made the planning process fun and the reception amazing.
Unbelievable experience with this hotel- my husband and I stayed stayed the night on the 4th and when we checked out we received our receipt for $150, the correct amount. On the way home I checked my bank account and noticed a $600 charge from Glidden House. I called and no one was available to speak to me so I left a voicemail. The next day I spoke with the accountant who told me my card was used for another persons room!!! I have no idea how that even happens! He assured me he was reversing the charges. I got a letter from him to give to my bank stating I was charged incorrectly and my funds Needed to be released. This morning I checked my account and found that instead of being refunded, he charged me the amount I was supposed to get back. On top of that I had another $700 charge pending from Glidden House! I went into my bank and had to have the charges disputed and a new card issued.I have been calling since the 5th to get ahold of the GM, Tom and he never answers the phone. I left a voicemail this morning, didn’t get a return call and finally called again this evening and explained the situation to the woman at the desk who was “able to catch him.” When I explained to him that I was understandably upset by this situation and extremely concerned about my card being charged upwards of $1,000 and that they were fraudulent charges, he was dismissive and rude. This was my husband and I’s first anniversary weekend and this mess was caused by something sketchy going on with their staff or billing department. He even had the nerve to laugh at me when I was telling him I don’t care about the hours he works- that’s not why I called and not my problem.Luckily, my bank couldn’t have been more helpful as they recognized they were fraudulent charges and disputed all of them quickly. Here’s my advice- don’t book here period. They are a mess and if something goes wrong with your billing, the accountant has no idea how to reverse charges. Ormore than likely, they will charge hundreds of dollars on your card and not care to call you back or fix the issue. Avoid this Hotel at all costs. If you have to stay here- use a credit card to make it simple for your CC company to shut their scamming down immediately.
Complimentary breakfast with uncommon options things like quiche and soy milk. Good coffee and tea also included. Also, the hotel is next door to a small, delicious Italian restaurant which is normally reservation only and reservations are hard to come by because it is so small and popular. Guests of the Glidden House can have food ordered in from said Italian restaurant. Front desk staff can be a bit abrasive, but the beauty of the building make up for it.
I thought staying here was going to be stiff and very self important, but I was SO wrong. The staff is incredibly friendly, kind, and funny. The food and bar are great and the rooms are beautiful. You can also walk to many museums and gardens that are very close by. I would love to stay here again!
Enjoyed my short night stay,.clean, staff very polite and helpful. Just had coffee in the AM but the breakfast that was avaliable was beautiful with lovely courteous staff, wish I would have eaten. Would like to stay there at least 3 nights, would love to explore the area.
The Glidden House is right on Case Western Reserves campus, and within walking distance to the Art Museum, Museum of Natural History, Botanical Garden, Severance Hall, and more. The hotel is a beautifully restored mansion with all the modern conveniences. The rooms are clean and comfortable. There is wifi available in the rooms. Parking is free for guests, and breakfast is also included. There is a small hotel bar, and a nice Italian restaurant next door that also provides room service. This is my favorite place to stay when visiting the area.
Used to be impressed here, but last visit, with stained sheets, and not the most impressive service- compared with previous visits, left me wondering if the higher rates here are worth it. Main draw I suppose is that it is in a great location, very close to museums. Not all that terrible, and a quaint little place, but I suppose I just wouldnt fight hard to stay here anymore.
Shabby-chic in that way Cleveland does it. Beautiful architecture and ballroom belies the dreary, old hotel rooms with broken fixtures and a lack of investment throughout. Not handicap friendly, not a good choice for healthy eaters or food allergies, staff does their best but seem stressed to the limit, although the bartenders will be drinking with you. While the location is central the neighborhood is rough. No gym, no pool, no food service outside breakfast. Parties will take over all the common areas so ask if weddings or bar mitzvahs will be going on before you book and be prepared for the crowds if something is happening during your stay.
The Glidden House has a lot of character. Essentially they extended an old house with the hotel. The buffet breakfast has a nice presentation with sterling platters and whatnot. Usually they have an egg option, a meat, yogurt, oatmeal, and a variety of breads/pastries. There is coffee and tea as well in the front dining room and juice options in the back dining space. The room was clean with the basic ammenities (tv, clock, desk, reading chair), the bed is cushy (seems like a pillow top). I have stayed here in both the winter and summer. I get cold pretty easy and I wish the comforter was a little heavier in the winter, but there is individualized temperature control for the room.My biggest complaint is that there is not a great place to plug in the phone near the bed. I usually end up unplugging a lamp.It is within walking distance to the botanical gardens, the orchestra, Wade Oval park, and all of CWRU campus. There is also a strip of dining options within walking distance off of Euclid Ave.I choose to stay here anytime I am working in the area.
Nice hotel. Average sized rooms and the antique interior has good atmosphere. Although the wifi connection is antique as well. If you are on a business trip then you proably wont be able to do your work. They have several wifi APs but all of them are slow and connections keep get lost. This is not compared to Asian standards but to other hotels that i have been in the states. It was by far the worst. Other than that the hotel was nice.
This was an incredible little hotel. Firstly, a shout out to TJ, who checked us in and gave us great local info.Great place for multigenerational families to gather. Walking distance to the extraordinary Cleveland Mueum of Art. Botanical Garden across the street had indoor Christmas tree displays and music available- and closed at 8 on Saturday. In other words, my older parents could walk over and enjoy a sophisticated night without having to drive.Great breakfast, inspired holiday decorations- we will return!
When I stay overnight in Cleveland, this is my first choice. The rooms are clean and quiet (Theyve recently upgraded their previously noisy heating/AC system.). The complementary continental breakfast is extensive. The concierge (James) is awesome! In fact, all the employees are friendly and professional. If you get a suite, try to get on the third floor; in the second floor suites you can hear the continental breakfast being prepared early in the morning. But the best thing about this place is its location. Several museums, coffeeshops, bars (the Barking Spider rocks!), and the Cleveland Cinematheque are all within walking distance.
Friendly staff. Close to Botanical Gardens, Cleveland Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, Lakeview Cemetery and other points of interest. Lovely area in University Circle. Interesting architecture -- everything from great old buildings to a variety of modern ones.
I stayed two nights here while I was having some meetings on Case Westerns campus and Im so glad I picked this place! Not only is it literally kiddy-corner to the building I was going to (Mather Memorial) but it was basically the same price that a Hampton Inn several miles away was going to be. It is also a beautiful building and the bellhop made me feel like a celebrity! Parking wasnt a problem, but that could have just been because I came in the middle of the week and there werent any big events on campus.
BED BUGS! Room smelled! They did not refund any of our money! Worst stay ever. We had to visit laundromat to wash and dry everything we brought due to fire marshal finding bed bugs again! which has apparently been an ongoing problem at the Glidden House. Then Glidden house charged us extra fees for parking...the room was dirty, hairs on the sink, stains on the sheets, staff was not friendly. I would never recommend glidden house to anyone
Glidden House is located in the edge of the Case Western Reserve University campus close to a great number of things to see and do in the area, museums, the botanical gardens, great resturants. The hotel is a beautiful piece of history with a staff that is very welcoming. The rooms are updated and whether you are there on a staycation, vacation or for business it is a great hotel and location for the University Circle neighborhood.
We had our wedding and reception at the Glidden House and it was amazing. All of our guest were blown away at the quality of service the Glidden House provided. We also have Leary the Director of events there to thank for all his hard work and contributions to making our special day that much easier on us!
Think you have a reservation at Glidden House? Don’t count on it. We made one for my birthday, directly with Glidden House, and when we got there, bags in hand, we were told that the person before us (it was mentioned this was a *doctor*) had decided to stay longer than planned, so we would have to go elsewhere. No apology even. Terrible!
Dont trust your reservation. We called the Glidden House on June 1, 2013 at 4am Denver time to make a reservation by telephone for our daughters May 2014 graduation. Hotel took the credit card information and confirmed the reservation. Three hours later, went back online to verify it, and there was no record of the reservation and the hotel was now fully booked for graduation weekend.Very disappointing.
I called about our reservations and the lady I spoke with was completely unprofessional. I figured with Cleveland Cavs winning the championship the people of Cleveland would be a bit more friendly. She gave me attitude then when she hung up the phone SUE accidentally left it on speaker. She started making fun of our questions about traffic and access to the highway from her hotel. She used terrible language and when I yelled in the phone that she is on speaker she hung up immediately. I called back and got her on the phone, she admitted to using fowl language and she messed up. I asked to talk to a manager and she wouldnt let me. THIS PLACE IS THE MOST UNPROFESSIONAL BUSINESS IN THE CITY IN CLEVELAND. GO ELSE WHERE THE SERVICE OF ALL EMPLOYEES IS TERRIBLE. THIS IS WHY MANY PEOPLE BELIEVE CLEVELAND IS A TERRIBLE PLACE TO LIVE. TRASH TRASH TRASH

2022-01-02The area was very nice and quiet and secluded. Upon entering the Glidden House, we were mesmerized by the decor and furnishings. We were welcomed warmly. Our New Years Eve was amazing thanks to Tony the bartender and the rest of the great staff. Lots of attractions and restaurants nearby so our trip made great memories. The rooms in this hotel are beautifully kept up and inviting. Definitely would return for another couple nights!

2022-06-16Had the pleasure of staying at this gem while visiting Cleveland. It was a wonderful experience. Rooms were comfortable. The staff was great. Breakfast the next day was terrific and the person that cooked the breakfast was also the overall director. She was delightful! It was just her third week at Glidden. Shes a wonderful example of someone who takes pride in what they do and in meeting the needs of her customers.

2022-06-16Wanted to go to the Rock and Hall Hall of Fame on the way back from Detroit (by car) and decided on the Glidden House to spend the night. I am glad I did as its a wonderful place in the middle of the University Campus with lots of food choices within walking distance and only a 10 minute drive to the R&RHoF. The rooms were very comfy, if a bit noisy due to the creaking floors (upstairs neighbors), but the suite was very roomy and the microwave and fridge were very welcome.Breakfast was fairly standard but tasty. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. This seems to be a popular place for conferences and weddings also, and for good reason.

2022-02-13Today, the hospitality business has become less about the guest and more about the money. Hotels today have too much plastic brutal furniture and slim minimalist decor. The Glidden House reminds me of what is good in the world. It’s not just a place to stay, it’s a home. The dark wood walls and complimentary tea offer a kind of warmth that only a mother’s love can provide. When she visits, my grandmother refuses to stay anywhere else. Their breakfast (unfortunately now reduced due to COVID) is one of the best I’ve ever had, and is only icing on the cake of this magical historic place. I hope it stays around for a long long time.

2022-07-06Beautiful place! Conveniently near all kinds of great stuff. They do proved shampoo but no conditioner so don:t underpack like I did! Also the bartender makes a lovely sidecar!

2022-04-28Positive: The main part of this hotel retains the character of the old home. It is comfortable and a reminder of an old fine home. We came for appointments at Cleveland Clinic. The location was great. East walking distance to little Italy. Negative: The rooms need a little upgraded, more outlets and wall paper replaced.

2022-06-29VERY outdated small, cluttered rooms. Uncomfortable bed. Old, mix matched, worn out bed pillows. You can hear people speaking in the next room. Dirty overstuffed chair. Powdered scrambled eggs in the morning. Over all the property is a bit smelly. The only thing his property has going for it is location. It is a great location. And it looks pretty from the OUTSIDE.

2022-04-17Awesome location for Case Western Reserve University. It is a historic hotel. I would call it comfortable and warm but not really spacious. You can walk to the art museum and botanical gardens.

2022-01-25Charming 100+ year old mansion with a modern hotel wing added. Cozy spaces with fireplace, friendly staff, nice hot breakfast included. Great location within walking distance of museums and other attractions.
