Fantastic, made-to-order breakfast food. I sat at the bar and had the blueberry hotcake, a fried egg, thick-cut bacon, and a coffee. After watching the cooks prepare the lunch sandwiches, I wish I would have gone back for lunch. If you’re looking for a no-frills, but delicious breakfast or lunch, eat here! Prices were quite reasonable, too.
Finally got around to trying this place out. Lets start by saying it is SMALL, and usually 97% of the time it is busy and you can expect a wait. But it is extremely worth it. Fantastic food. Everything is made right in front of you practically. You cant go wrong with anything you pick from here.
It’s a cozy family style breakfast place. On weekend you might have to wait for a seat cause there will be a lot of people coming in. The waiter was really friendly and the cashier was really nice too. I personally think the price is on the cheaper site. Don’t expect crazy delicious food like from first watch :) If you would come here to grab breakfast, I would suggest the western omelette (there’s a pic of it here I’ll attach it). Overall was a decent place to visit. Enjoy !
This place was close to our AirBnB this weekend and it had great reviews. Best bacon I’ve ever had. Pancake of the month was cinnamon roll and it was to die for. My western omelette and hashbrowns were delightful as well. Service was exceptional. Will definitely be back.
This was my first visit to this place...what I can tell you is get there as early as possible because there will be a wait, which is a good sign but it took about 45 minutes to get in the door. The food was ok...that blueberry pancake was one of the best that Ive had but I guess by us sitting right in front we were able to watch the cooks is the reason why there getting 3 stars one cook only had one glove on handling the toast with the un- gloved hand...I also seen one of the cooks sweep something off a plate with his hands and then plate someones food I work in healthcare so this is very disturbing to me...but if that doesnt bother you...you should give this place a try because the food isnt bad at all.
This was my first time going to this establishment, and I have to say it was amazing! Service was excellent, always made sure my coffee was filled. Super chill atmostphere, food was delicious. I will definitely be back!I had the sausage breakfast sandwich on a sesame bagel, with corned beef hash and a blueberry hotcake
8 years living in this city and I cant belive I only recently discovered this gem of a place. No frills, locally-owned helluva place for some good ol classic breakfast/brunch/comfort food on a weekend. Great food at extremely great prices and amazingly friendly service. Pancakes are huge, hashbrowns are delicious, and eggs cooked to perfection. Food served hot, delicious, cheap, and with a smile - theres nothing else better than that! I highly recommend them and I will definitely be back.
We found this hidden gem online and its one of the best restaurants Ive been to this year! Its a small spot, friendly staff with a big ❤️ and GREAT FOOD! We were visiting family in Ohio and this restaurant was close to the church we were going to visit. We had a short wait before being seated, then enjoyed spending time talking before our food arrived. The atmosphere was warm and cozy. I had the special of the day, Egg Nog French Toast! It was the BEST french toast Ive ever had! My sister-in-law, had an omlette and a gingerbread pancake! My great nephew had their famous Western Omlette and a chocolate chip pancake! The pancake was only slightly smaller than the plate! Our table was full of the best breakfast of 2019! I only wish we had the German Village Coffee Shop in Waldorf, Maryland!🍳🥞 ☕💓
Every few weeks, Ill take a vacation day and take my six year old son here for lunch during the week. The omelets are basic but definitely hit the spot (have them toss in jalapeños and hash browns!). My son (and who am I kidding, me as well!) LOVES the enormous pancake. Its one of the best in town. The prices are cheap as well. Its a TINY place, so theres usually a wait, but, its such a friendly and delicious place that its worth it.
There is something about this place that keeps bringing me back, despite the waits, parking, distance. I am not sure if its the owner/operator vibe that this gives, the best bacon ive ever had, waffles made of unicorn tears? whatever the reason is I will for sure be back again. If your ever in the area (or even if not) stop in and see what I mean.
Great western omelet with a side of hash browns and exceptional bacon. Fast coffee refills and good service. Definitely recommend. Will be back.My go to breakfast diner. Excellent food and service every time.Mark, the chef, is an artist with the hash browns. Perfection every time
Love this place. Food is always really good. One bad note is they have a cook that overcooked AND broke up my over easy eggs and gave us burnt toast. My eggs were redone perfectly and my husband got his toast replaced. Both were done by the other guy there that use to cook. I work at a restaurant I would never had let food go out looking like that but... they fixed it and it was delicious. Will definitely go back been eating the for over 20 years. I remember when Chris ran the place.
If youre looking for a good diner that is cheap, serves good food, and has a friendly staff, look no further. Weve been going here for years and have always had a good experience. The interior/atmosphere is what you may picture for an older American diner with wood booths, paper table mats that have the menu; with that diner smell, youll be smelling like the rest of the day. There can sometimes be a wait, depending on your group size/time of day, but its worth it.
I only went to this place for the first time 2 weeks ago and I have really been missing out! My husband and I both were blown away by how good the food was. Not that we didn’t expect it to be- it was just even better than we assumed. The breakfast sandwich is awesome. We split a blueberry pancake which was also excellent. We’re about to go back right now!
Worst club sandwich I ever had toast was burnt to black. I ate part of the sandwich but couldnt take anymore returned it the next day and complained. Manager or owner I dont know what he was complain back that the toast wasnt burnt argued with me in front of his whole restaurant for 5 minutes before returning half of my money. He was also unforgiving and demeaning as if he was Billy on the Street. I made a frustrating comment as I left then he replied that I sucked in front of his whole restaurant. Had the professionalism of a dive bar. I work the hospitality business for over 30 years this guy was the worst of the worst.#Be like Mike.
Best breakfast place so far. Happened across this little diner accidentally but now its our go-to breakfast place. Simple menu, great service and amazing prices. The pancakes are my favorite, Ive considered asking for their recipes because our homemade ones never turn out so good. Each month they have a different special flavor, November was Pumpkin (amazing) and December was Gingerbread. The gingerbread pancake was so good, decently gingery and must have had a good amount of molasses in there too. And their bacon is the best. Nice thick cuts, not too crispy but not those soggy strips you get at other places. My wife swears by their western omelette.EDIT: 3 years later and still our favorite breakfast spot.
This place is awesome. I grew up in New York and recently moved to Columbus and when Im missing NY, man this place feels like home. The food is great and the service is amazing. I have never in my 30+ years on this Earth had better bacon in a restaurant. Same goes for the sausage. Then we get to the omlettes which are not fancy or crazy with over indulgent toppings but they are the best! Not in the mood for eggs? Dont worry, the pancakes are to die for. It doesnt matter how you like them; plain, chocolate chip, blueberry, strawberry, or the famous pancake of the month, they have it figured out and they are all awesome. Coffee is damned good too. Then we get to the service which is awesome. Ive only been here about half a dozen times and they already remember what I order! This place has such a hometown vibe its almost like an episode of cheers whenever I visit. I love it and can not recommend it enough. Sometimes you may need to be patient for a seat but it is worth the wait. Best breakfast in Columbus!!!!!!!!
The atmosphere isnfun and the staff were all very friendly. The pancakes are HUGE!!! The breakfast bagel sandwich was good, but the bagel itself was a little too toasted for my liking. Thats the only discrepancy I have. Food was tasty and fresh, coffee was always full. I sat at the bar. If you come later in the morning with a large group, expect to wait.
Not what it used to be... Quality of food, the way its prepared, presentation. I realize that with Covid-19 and fewer customers, less money coming in, cost cutting takes place. However, the quality and cost arent to be sacrificed or ignored. Ruined a known, true greasy spoon diner! Very, very disappointed!
Not only do the prices deserve a 5 star rating, but so does the food! I have been there for both breakfast and lunch and loved my meals on both occasions. Their homemade tomato soup was SO good! When seating is unavailable I’ve never had to wait too long. They do a good job getting the food done fast, I’m return making things flow nice and efficiently.
This is a great little diner! Breakfast and lunch served. When I was a child, my grandmother would make me a fried bologna sandwich. This place has one, so I tried it. It was delicious and it was made with a thick slice of German bologna. My daughter had their potato soup and my son-in-law had an omelet and pancakes. Everyone truly enjoyed their delicious food!
This is among the best little breakfast places Ive ever found. Set up like a cute old fashioned diner with fantastic food. The pancakes are huge and full of flavor! Breakfast sandwiches here are hearty and delicious. The coffe was perfect as it should be when coffee is in the business name. Our waitress was fantastic as well.
One of my most favorite places to hangout in German Village and Columbus. Pretty much has become an every weekend/weekday haunt when we can place, that I have been coming to for YEARS now! A very relaxing down to earth old school diner with great breakfast as well as other menu favorites such as burgers, sandwiches, and fries/onion rings. They get produce/meats locally from other businesses as much as possible including the thick cut bacon that is hard to turn down! Even though the food is great and they still keep the prices lower to reflect the diner menu; youll never be disappointed with their portions sizes including their plate size pancakes. They also do a rotation of specialty flavor pancakes monthly or you can order one you customize yourself. They have great soups too but only available on weekdays unfortunately. Youll keep coming back, if not for the food...itll be for the atmosphere and the staff who are always amazing. Its not a fancy restaurant but you wont care. Its a locals spot and theyll treat you like one of their own. Not big on space but big on heart. And yes there tends to be a wait when you come to eat here and theres a reason. Youll meet the best people both staff and patrons; have great conversation and make friends. These people are like family, I love em! ♡♡♡
It has a really cozy atmosphere. The staff are friendly and check often to make sure you are happy. The food is delicious! The coffee is awesome. Sometimes you have to wait a little bit for a booth or a seat at the counter. Its worth the wait and the cook gets the food out fast.
We got there right before they opened. A crowd of people went into the small diner. I thought it would take forever to eat and get out. However, we ate one of the best meals weve ever had, never had empty coffee cups, and were paying our check thirty minutes later. This place is a well oiled machine that serves up some of the best breakfast foods youll ever eat. And it isnt expensive either!
I love restaurants that have great prices and lots of character. I really like the condiment center which is located at each table. It really saves a lot of time waiting for the server to bring you something.Pancakes (blueberry) are excellent. Eggs and toast were nothing special. Coffee was bitter so I would not order that again.Staff was friendly and happy and there was a community atmosphere there.
Easily my favorite breakfast place in Columbus. I am here almost every Sunday morning. Theres usually a little bit of a wait, but this small diner has fantastic food, and the staff is extremely friendly. The prices are also come of the best in town. $2.75 for 2 eggs and 2 pieces of toast! And I really enjoy the small mom and pop feel of the place.
Man, this sucks - this was our great go-to spot for breakfast. This morning we went around 9:20 AM - there was a wait but not too bad, a lot of people coming in after us though. We got seated about 9:45. Again, not a big deal. We ordered immediately since we usually know exactly what were getting, got our waters, and then... nothing. By the time 10:30 rolled around I flagged down the waitress - all we got was a hot cake and some french toast - to see if we could take our order to go. The waitress went to double check and came back sheepishly to admit that they hadnt even started on our order yet. I had to split to get to a meeting at work, but I wasted over an hour and a half here this morning for two glasses of water and not even an apology on our way out the door. We wont be back.
Average diner style restaurant. Food is good and priced fairly. The space is very small, so chefs preparing the foods have limited space which may cause them to place food and plates in unconventional areas that may not be satisfactory to some guest. Overall if you are looking for a no frills diner experience, with fair pricing this is the place to go.
DO NOT GO HERE!!! Pancakes burnt on outside and uncooked on the inside, bagel burned on outside and cold on inside - room temperature butter never melted. Had fruit flies flying everywhere, landed in my water and my daughters food. Never gave two of us silverware or even told us where the menu was. I was told the omelet and orange juice was good but still poor service and not worth the long wait.
One of my favorite places to eat in Columbus for breakfast and lunch, only wish they were open late night! Their club sandwich is my favorite around, and they source the bacon locally (which is incredible). Burgers are great, and their daily lunch specials are always tasty and interesting. Friendly service, great prices, and good selection. Breakfast has the basics youd expect from a diner, but I love the western omelette.
Had breakfast here today. The food was amazing and the price was great. Only thing I was not impressed with was the lady that served us. I had to wait for a coffee refill several times as she debated her customers on her political views and bashed our President. Needless to say It kind of upset me while trying to enjoy my breakfast with my family. Not acceptable.
I liked this place because its local, the food is great and the prices are fair. We waited a long time (it was around noon on a Sunday) which was fine, but no one told any of the groups that were waiting that you were supposed to put your name on a waiting list, we were never greeted and had to approach someone and ask to to be put on the list. I will still be back.
BREAKFAST MAGNIFICO!! When you walk in you are greeted with a smile, the server is more the eager to seat you and just friendly the whole time youre there. I ordered 3 pancakes of which they have 3 kind to choose from, plain, blueberry and chocolate chip. I chose plain. The bacon is thick the way I like it and juicy. Overall a great experience, oh by the way, I am a huge fan of the hubcap like pancakes those are my favorite. Not bad for a little dive and I love a good home grown dive. This should be your next breakfast stop Columbus if it hasnt been already.
Love the atmosphere, food is delicious and comes quickly, staff is friendly and helpful. It is just a simple breakfast diner, but definitely a German Village staple. Brought my boyfriend here the weekend before last and he loved it so much that he asked if we could go back the following weekend. Make sure to come early on the weekend as it can get pretty busy.
My husband and I love this place! Food is hearty and served hot and the staff is friendly, hard working, and patient (my 2 yr old isnt always a quiet, good tempered patron lol). Seating is usually readily available, although if you go during lunch there will be a wait. Parking is difficult as there are limited spaces directly in front so be prepared to walk a block. Prices are VERY reasonable and encourage us to order breakfast AND lunch in the same sitting, till we are bursting at the seams (which is fine because we can walk it off while trekking back to the car a block away). Their pancakes (off menu or special of the day) are basically the size of vinyls and are always delicious. Only slight drawback to this place is that theyre only open til 3pm, so plan early! We prefer this place over Thurmans Cafe any day.
This little hole-in-the-wall location was phenomenal. We were there on Sunday morning at 9 and people were waiting out the door. So if youre hungry and you cannot wait you might want to have a Plan B. The food was outstanding and you get a lot of it for a very low price.
Staff, price point, and the food make this place one of our most frequently visited places for breakfast & lunch. Hours are early but worth the effort to visit. Be prepared to leave your name at the counter & join a line of folks outside, waiting for seating to open up on weekends; the occupancy is limited to a handful & a half or so of booths & grill-adjacent, counter seating (around 10 stools or something). Still worth the effort!
Had breakfast here a couple days ago. SERVICE was ok .Omelette was delicious and fluffy ..my hash browns tasted burnt ,I was slightly dissatisfied sorry but Iam big on Hash browns. Prices are very decent .I would return to try out other things on the menu for sure.if the hash browns didnt taste burnt I would have rated this place a 4 star.
By far the best bang-for-buck breakfast in Columbus! The bacon is thick and the hash browns are perfect! It’s my favorite place to stop into for a traditional breakfast, and my girlfriend always orders their specialty pancakes. Go early because this place gets busy fast and you may have to wait for a table if you arrive after 9am.
The absolute best !!!!!!! I have been going there for years and everything is awesome. No matter what you get to eat, it is always cooked perfectly. Staff is super. I have corrupted so many of my friends by bringing them there and now they are regulars to. It is Columbuss answer to Cheers.
Found this place on my way to Scamblers.Review:There is no parking lot so you have to park on the street in the neighborhood. Found a good spot and got a lil exercise going to the joint.Went in and asked the lady with the red hair can I seat myself she says yes. So I went to a booth. I noticed the menus on the table with the napkins, condiments and two red bowls one had butter and the other had coffee creamer. My table was clean with the exception of a open pack of butter in the red butter condiment bowl which was gross but it could have been put there by the last patrons not sure anyway. The server was nice she came to me right away asked me what I wanted to drink.I said coffee and she suggested I drink water as well. Which is a good thing I like servers that suggest things she came back with clean coffee cup. Hot coffee and clean ice water cup but no straw.. No issues there. When I ordered I asked her what specials or deals they had going and she said that they had a lunch item on special and I asked about the Western Omelette that they are famous for and was breakfast still going on. She said you can get breakfast and anything on the menu. Love that this place has no time limit on breakfast, lunch etc.I ordered the Western Omelette and hasbrowns with onions and cheese. The food was fresh and hot. The only thing I didn’t like is that they didn’t cut my toast and put it on a saucer. Also the cook brought my food to the wrong table. But people make mistakes....I ate the food the Western Omelette was okay it was hot and juicy but I have had better Omelettes no pun intended. The server did suggest the pancakes I think I will try the pancakes next time but overall it’s a good spot to check out and maybe return to every now and again. The PRICES ON THE MENU ARE SUPER CHEAP!!! YOU GET YOUR MONEYS WORTH AND ALSO GET FILLED UP.I give this place four stars for friendliness and also for the hot fresh food and super low prices... Also it’s BLACK PEOPLE FRIENDLY!!! That’s a major plus!
Ive been here a few times. Ive always enjoyed it, unfortunately my last visit my wife and I got really sick within a few hours of eating here. No one else in our house got sick so it was likely food poisoning, doubt Ill go back. 3 stars because I really enjoy the place, but if Im getting food poisoning the sanitation of the restaurant comes into question.
Appears to be very popular with the locals who braved bone chilling winter conditions to walk in for breakfast around 7 a.m. The staff were very friendly and hospitable. The food was served promptly when prepared and the prices very reasonable. When I make my way back to Colunbus, I will definitely return.
We stopped by German Village Coffee Shop after participating in the BuckeyeThon 2019 24 hour dance marathon at The Ohio State University. After being on our feet all night, the coffee was incredible. The staff was also extremely friendly (they remembered us from the year before) and the food was delicious! We will definitely be back!
Other reviews claim this place reminds them of old diners in NYC and other East Coast cities. If that is true, remind me to not visit diners out east. Theres character and then there is worn-out. This place is the latter. And when a cockroach ran across the bench of my breakfast companion... nuff said.
Food was good as it always is but my service was very slow. I waited a long time to be acknowledged and my coffee sat empty most of my 45 minutes there. I could tell regulars were served ahead of me. My food took so long I packed it to go but even then waited ten minutes for a to go container. I was very disappointed.
Is this place small? Yes.Will you have to wait? Maybe. But you get out standing and friendly service by the bucket full. Gvcs is a Small mom and pop kind of place. A throw back to a slower pace. You come you talk you get your food. There arnt to many places that are running on all cylinders like this place. Come in on a Saturday morning or afternoon and you will have to wait. But believe me its worth it.
Im sitting at the counter, only available seat with the cooks ass in my face watching him do ONE order at a time. A dozen folks waiting and he got two grills making one egg, pancake, hash browns at a time... Ive done this. I can do a half dozen orders at a time with two grills and a deep fryer. Hes doing it again, one egg order. Id fire this guy and do it myself, finally got my order... Damn.
The food is great and the prices are even better. We go almost every weekend and we dont make it on a weekend we go at least once a week the staff is better on the weekends mainly the lady who greets you at the door is better during the weekends the food is always great

2022-02-27I had three pancakes when I was here. There was a little bit of wait. I had one of them beat the pancake of the month, which was cherry cordial. It was delicious, came with chocolate and cherries that were split. It tasted remarkably like a cordial Cherry. I also had a blueberry pancake and a pecan pancake. It was so much that I couldnt finish but it was very good. The staff were nice and talked and joked with us. I would recommend this coffee shop for a bite to eat in the morning, and also will come back again in the near future!

2021-10-14Amazing quaint place. Similar to wafflehouse but better. Coffee stayed full, food was amazing. Highly recommend the corned beef hash. Wonderful service, stayed directly on point and always checked on us. Will come back. Very sweet people.

2021-12-14Didn’t get a chance to take more pics of the food-we dug in as soon as it came out! Friendly staff, tasty bacon, and a warm room on a chilly morning. Even saw a raindeer pancake with a red cherry nose come by for a young diner! A neighborhood joint I’m glad we finally checked out!

2022-07-10I absolutely loved this place. My boyfriend, daughter and I were just in town for a night and got breakfast here on the way out. We arrived around 8:30 on a Sunday, were greeted by friendly staff, had to wait about 15 minutes for seats at the bar (first available), sat down and were quickly served by a wait staff and a gentleman behind the bar. The staff were very accommodating, checked on us frequently but were not pests. Our food came out after an acceptable amount of time, was hot, plentiful and tasted amazing. My daughter got French toast and it was the best I’d ever tasted. My omelet and hash browns were perfect. My boyfriend’s hotcakes were huge and delicious. No complaints at all. Unfortunately we live about 2.5 hours away but I’d love to come back any time! Just a note, they do have a restroom, but it’s very small and you have to walk through the kitchen to access it, which is a little uncomfortable, but at least they have one. I’m going to suggest that our Airbnb host add this place to his house manual for guests!

2022-04-01Amazing people, excellent food. Everyone was super friendly. You can sit at the counter and watch your food being cooked and chat with the cook. Theyre open early in the morning and theres actually parking (parallel) close to the front door.I was in town for business and had breakfast here. If it was up to me, I would have come back for lunch.Next time Im in town, I wont bother wasting half an hour looking for a place to eat, Ill just come straight here. 10/10, would buy again in a heartbeat.

2022-05-26My husband and I visited this shop for breakfast on a busy Saturday morning. We enjoyed walking around the neighborhood, which was having a neighborhood sidewalk sale, while we waited. Service was friendly and it was fun watching the cooks work. We both enjoyed our food - pancakes, eggs and a breakfast sandwich. Everything tasted great. This is a great little spot in German Village!

2022-06-15Nice claustrophobic atmosphere that is constantly bustling and packed full of people. On first glance, this would be a negative, (and it is a big negative if you are in a hurry) but I find it to be part of the fun of going here. The food is pretty good as well and has a nice home cooked simplicity to it so there isnt anything too risky or demanding of a customer.I will say that I think the french toast pricing is a little odd as a single small slice of French Toast is the same price as a gigantic pancake.Another small criticism is due to the compact nature of the restaurant, there are only a few people working at any time which can lead to some long wait times for food; however, part of the fun is being able to sit and chat with friends for a while and enjoy the mood.

2021-08-03I love this place - just like a diner from ages past. Staff is friendly, always on top of things and the food is fantastic! Definitely love breakfast here. Seating is limited so make sure to avoid high traffic times.
