I had nothing but a good experience there. I even forgot my debit card and they were happy to hold my stuff (for over an hour!) while I left to retrieve it. Decent prices I thought??? Dunno why all the hatred...... and no I’m not a friend or a family member of the owners.
Incredibly rude and unfriendly. Literally AT CHECKOUT I was being ostracized and told if you dont like it, buy something else. It was as if my business meant less to them than their products.I couldnt believe how impolite and unpleasant the experience was. I was followed around the store by what I can only presume the tattooed individual with a backwards hat is what passes for loss prevention at this establishment.Overall recommendation:Dont shop in a place that treats you like a criminal and acts like they dont want your business at all.
Wish I wouldve read these reviews before stopping in as theyre %100 spot on! They would do well to organise the store,lower their prices, and learn a thing or two about customer service.very rude staff who hover over you and try to push product that is way over priced.i would suggest spending your money literally anywhere else but here. Gun show is every month at the county fairgrounds and you could order something online with next day shipping and still save money over this store.not to mention the store is very unkempt and cluttered and the staff almost acts as though youre not allowed to touch anything. Worst shopping experience Ive ever had.
I believe they are trying to run themselves out of business. Extremely overpriced is not even the bad part. The staff treats anyone that walks thru the door as a criminal. Hovering like a helicopter parent at a school dance. Don’t even dare try and touch something you might want to purchase. The good reviews are obviously of friends and family.
This is a really wonderful store and the owners are so kind and helpful. Cleveland is blessed to have such a store as this. They have a huge stockpile, and it’s easy to find what you need. All the bad review youre reading are 100% true and they must have had friends write the good ones... this was the worst shopping experience Ive had in a while. Someone stood literally 6 inches away from me the entire time I was there, they even tried telling me thing were higher priced than they were actually marked on the tab and they acted like they didnt wanna sell product. I would suggest taking your business online they dont have anything special worth the rudeness.
Any positive review of this place is a lie. Nancy (comment below) is probably the woman at the register trying to force me to buy gloves that i dont want and got annoyed when i didnt. Wouldnt hurt to have a sale so they could instal cameras so they can get rid of the hemchman that follows you around the store staring at you the whole time. I went in there to spend money but literally ran out of there as fast as i could. Negative stars if that was a possibility
Jesus christ! These prices are unreal. Its like they are doing whatever they can to avoid selling anything. Insane markup on *surplus* items and new old stock.Also, why would you keep 90% of your stock out of view and off limits to customers at a store where most folks go to browse?Two stars because the vibe wasnt quite as off-putting as Id expected.
The way they looked at us when we walked in, like “what are you doing here?”. The woman was rude to a female customer buying boots for her son. They were very obvious that they didn’t want us to touch anything. Store was nasty and dirty. If there are more than 3 customers, you can’t walk move in there.
Suck! Used to be a great little shop. I was looking for a specific flight jacket, one that I actually bought there years ago. The owner didnt want to hear it, he kept pushing everything else on me until I walked out. I was the second customer to walk out in a couple minutes.
I was followed around like I was going to steal something. No room to try on boots. No organization. Flight jackets were not put out for customer to see. Hats not available to see. Everything is boxed up or in piles. Sizes and prices not displayed. Four staff people working but just made me feel uncomfortable. Wish the staff used their time to clean up their products.everything was dusty. Wont be going back there again.
I know people have got to make a living but 15 dollars for a used black tie and then 15 dollars for the cheap elastic reflective belt? I could see 10 for each at the most but the attitude for not wanting to buy was over the top. Decent place if you’re in need for some last minute stuff but be prepared for some price gouging.
I agree with Brandon. I had no problem shopping there. When you walk in, you can tell why they prefer an associate to help you. They have stacked boxes and piles of merchandise. Allowing people to browse would make the place a mess. They just dont have the real estate for the amount of inventory. That being said, EVERYONE was friendly and helpful.PRO: Local resource for military-style stuff.CON: Army/Navy store prices arent what they used to be. I found the exact same item online for half the cost.
Last of its kind in Cleveland!!, I walked in and the owners were very kind and welcoming. I purchased a 100ft roll of Military Green Paracord and a Puerto Rico lapel Pin which I could never find anywhere. So if youre looking for a Great Place to buy Military equipment, this is your place.
Very pleasant shopping experience. I forgot my debit card and they held the items for me while I left to retrieve it. Very kool selection of BDUs. This is the last mom and pop army store in the Cleveland area so show them support. Very easy to get to as its right off I-77. Nothing bad to say at all.
Spoke to a man yesterday who was very short with me, maybe he was busy. I told him that Id be in but he never said a word about being closed in the middle of the week.I just drove 42 miles and theres no one here at 2pm on a Wed.Its on me for not looking up the exact business hours but I just talked with the guy yesterday, came at 2pm on a Wed (normal business hours for 99% of businesses) and I cannot imagine Im the first to be inconvenienced so a little forewarning would have gone a long way -- literally -- 84mi.1-Star for odd hours, poor customer service, and being in a location that requires welded bars over the windows. Find a better place to get your surplus... or just dont set aside time to come on a Wednesday. So frustrating!EDIT: APPARENTLY IT WAS AN EMERGENCY 4-STARS FOR HAVING A GOOD SUPPLY BUT NOT HAVING THE STAFF TO ASSIST IN KEEPING NORMAL HOURS.
Not only did you sell me a tent that has Spanish instructions and no english but the tent also has no exterior and is therefore useless if it rains. Unbelievable!!Also the store is over flowing with stock in a cramped old building I wouldnt bother going here unless youre an aspiring Horder
Just went there today, ton of stuff, a bit disorganized but the staff was excellent and very helpful in getting field uniforms for my 10 yr son and myself. Cut me a deal on stuff and I thought the prices were fair. Dont know what all the negative comments are about. Ill go there again.
Well ive been coming to Galco for nigh on 13 years now, its the only place i trusted to get the combat boots ive come to love. Went in yeaterday and grabbed a pair listed as $99 on the shelf, brought the boots to the counter and kep shopping for other items ( a medium go bag and coast guard decal for my brother)So i return to the counter ready to check out, have a rough idea of how much the total should be i pull out my card, the person ringing me out hollared back to the manager and said how much for the boots? I replied it should be $113.99 , its been that total every year for the past 5 years... the manager hollared back its $150 plus tax ( $50 more than the shelf listed price) well with the cost being that high i had to return all the items i had planned on buying and get just the boots.. the manager looked upset so i remarked hey man ive been coming hear faithfully for years i drove thirty minutes to get here i cant beleive the price went up so much...he snapped back hey man those are $300 boots ....i just scoffed ive seen them on ebay for years for between 70 and 100 a pair depending on size.So i get home and check my bank account and they had BILLED ME THREE TIMES FOR THOSE BOOTS!!CHARGED MY ACCOUNT $485 OVERDRAFTED the whole nine yards...had to file a dispute with my bank because when i called back they refused to stop the charge attempts...thank god for huntington because the refunded me the charged accounts and have opened an investigation on the company. After 13 years of faithfull buying im finally done with this company.
A lot of bad reviews on Galco, but I have nothing bad to say. Unfortunately, Cleveland doesnt have as many Army/Navy stores as they used to, so Galco is my go-to. Every time I go to Galco, they are friendly and helpful. Dont get me wrong, it aint Nordstrom-level customer service, but theyve helped me whenever I needed it. True story: I took my 11yr old daughter there because she wanted to be GI Jane for a Halloween contest at her school. Contrary to other reviews, she was able to try on several different styles and sizes. They spent almost 20 minutes in the back looking for her size. So, Im not sure what everyone is talking about. Im going back today to pick up a camo tee for myself.
I was in the market for Carhartt coveralls. When I arrived, the saleman explained he had to go to the back to get them. Several minutes later, he returned empty handed. He said they were buried in the back and they were too difficult to get out.He asked me if I was going to buy them. I explained that it depended on whether the ones they have would fit. Another salesman overheard the conversation. He walked over and started yellling. He said, Are you going to buy them of not? If youre here just to try them on, and then buy them somewhere else, we dont operate like that.Thats just plain rude!I have not been back since.
Went to the store one day with my friend. Given that we are both 18 I could sense them being weary of us just wandering the store looking for the supplies we needed. When we couldnt find the stuff by ourselves we asked the store guides and he help as much as he could. Even though I couldnt find what I wanted, he allowed my friend to try on multiple jackets to find the size. Definetly going back if I need camping or airsoft gear.
Used to be a great spot when I was a kid decided to come back and grab a few items for my security business and they have become a horrible place wont give you a deal and they rip you off i got sold a a tactical vest a a 800% mark up i miss the original owner who actually cared about his business

2022-08-25Same as everyone else, showed up to be told I can’t come in and when I was leaving the lady got mad and yelled I have to order on the website and I can pick it up in store. If I wanted to order it I would do it from Amazon and have it delivered. I didn’t know supporting a small business was such an inconvenience to the business.

2022-04-21Consumer relations service very poor. Called and was treated very nasty for just checking on exchanging an item we just bought the day before. I think they could do better with better customer services- be more pleasant. We drove from Oberlin.

2022-04-29I Was planning on visiting this store that I haven’t been to in years with the intent to buying some camo gear. BUT when I got to the store they won’t let anyone in browse and check everything out. The lady said, through her double mask, she would bring what I wanted to the door and I can look at it through the window. I left and purchased goods through Rothco’s website. I want to support local businesses but this is a joke.

2022-04-22Lol I call and ask if its open and available for me to come in since Im looking to spend about a GRAND on new gear since I got out the army. Dude on the phone tells me I can order online and its the same thing as in store pickup. I dont understand what kinda democratic place this is but its no bueno for me. Theres a better place not even an hour.

2022-04-20Everytime , i went in this store , I use to smile at the old man behind the counter and praise god to still have him with us , Because , i knew day one this man leaves this earth , Galco was going to fold with un-business like profromers ( 3 hours ) ..... In all , I pray that the old guy is alright & still with us .... Nice place that had its own touch for the customers that came from all walks of life ..... Me , I only went there for high end boots , My last pair was ( red wings * high calf ) for $210 .... I understand the covid rule ( though , every business around Galco store the doors are open & masks are off .... its a big difference when customers cant walk in a store and fully understand what they are buying . Hey its been great doing business with you guys over the years , But , You guys very well turnt your backs on the people who kept you a float for many years......( Good Luck ) Thank You

2021-08-07Drove 1 hour to visit, and support a local Army, Navy, Surplus store, called in advance to see if the store was fully open to patronize, said they were.Arrived to find out its in fact, curb side pickup onlyDont waste your time with this place, until they get their act together, and the stores, FULLY open again
