The server was rude. I put in an order in for take out. And as I was waiting wanted to make another order. She gave a slight eye roll like I’m not aloud to buy more food. She begrudgingly started to say I have to wait until my other order is out for me to make another order. Which made no sense so I told her I’ll pay twice you can put a separate order in I’m not waiting two separate times. Horrible customer service I do not recommend you spend you money there.
Sooooo I just woke up from my 12 hr shift and My Person was nice enough to go grab the food b4 I went to sleep. The phone connection wasn’t good when called but the lady I spoke to still remembered my info and I was able to complete my order when I called back . My Person didn’t have the best experience with the atmosphere. Wasn’t a lot of diversity. This has been around since 1989 and I’ve been out of concern that “Me” wouldn’t be embraced. So the verdicts still out on that but the food was delicious. Very tasty and portion size the Gold Star for me😌🤤. Probably just do pick ups. I
I moved to Akron about a year ago. Fred’s is easily my favorite place here. The food is great, the atmosphere is comfortable like a childhood best friends house, and the staff have a warm and semi sarcastic charm to them. Portions are huge and I love you daddy Fred!! ❤️❤️
My breakfast was great as always. Had an omelet and bacon of course. My boyfriend decided to try the French toast. Said they could have been great but tasted like a dirty grill. That part was a bummer. Only disappointment ever so we still give them 5 stars because its usually amazing.
If youre ever in Akorn try to stop by Freds diner. My 4 yr old son and I stopped by because of all the great reviews. Service was very quick and they were busy. Food was great as well as the price. You get a lot for your money and you will not leave hungry!! If you get the One big pancake be prepared to share it lol
I gave them 1 star but normally this is my favorite place to eat love the food wonderful portions and staff. BUT today I was greatly disappointed I have been wanting the Italiano burger for about 9days and this is what I got and couldnt eat a uncooked burger. Please slow down and make sure the food is properly cooked guys.
The servers are so nice.. Each time I went I had no issues besides today they forgot my onions in my omelette and for 95cents per added ingredient I want my dam onions lol.. You do get a decent amount of food for the price you pay. Go try for yourself. Its my second visit in less than 2 weeks 🤷🏽
TL;DR - HIGHLY RECOMMENDA classic small dinner in the truest sense of the word!Had come here before during the pandemic, forget what I had got but it wasnt any thing special. I was a little unsure if I wanted to come back. I couldnt be so happy to be so wrong. Actually got to sit at the counter and have a full meal. The food! The atmosphere! Truly the definition of a diamond in the rough! This place has a cult following and what I can only call a family of dedicated customers, because person after person just kept coming in and it was like everyone knew everyone! I knew no one but my friend, yet everyone was super welcoming! I highly recommend anyone to come here! Wait times might be higher (please note, it was VERY BUSY when I was there), but youre to busy talking with people to even notice, and with the amount of business they do, Im surprised the wait times arent higher! The kitchen staff work as a well oiled machine! With the man Fred himself leading the charge! I will most certainly be back!
Freds is an Akron staple! It is literally one of the best places to eat for breakfast and I love that they serve it throughout there entire opening hours not just traditional breakfast time periods. The food is consistently great, service is always quick, and service is always pleasant. I wish the facility itself was bigger, but people will do not mind waiting to eat (myself included) because we know what we are going to get. You cant go wrong eating here.
A friend suggested this diner for breakfast. I wasnt sure what to expect, but the food was very good, impressive serving sizes & service was good. I will be back! I had the eggs, bacon, homefries and toast with a side of their sausage gravy and he had their omlette with homefries and a side of bacon.
Fair prices. Delicious food. Nice staff. They actually fill your water glass. The serviced here is fairly fast when they are busy. Since theyve reduced their hours from weekdays to weekends only, they get really packed. The servings are a large. Be prepared to be full.
Do not miss out on this gem! Tried Freds out because I was in the area having auto service done and Im glad we stopped! Had a excellent fresh home cooked breakfast, fresh brewed coffee, and beyond excellent service! My coffee cup never had the chance to empty! Do yourself a favor! Stop in and eat! Cant wait to go again and enjoy that #8 breakfast on the menu!!!!
So I am going to say the only negative thing I can say about this place first because it is my own personal opinion but will not affect my decision for the full 5 stars I gave it. The home fries need more crisp. Unlike the man behind us I am not going to complain that the bacon is not crispy enough. Anymore crispy and that bacon would be inedible in my book. Ok now onwards because what is not to love about diner food? Country fried steak amazing. Sausage gravy and biscuits all great. So many choices for toast. Personally I like rye bread and it was perfect with the smuckers orange marmalade. Bacon and eggs are all tasty. Service was excellent. Was so happy to finally get in this small place and eat. Please support them. What an icon of akron. My mom grew up down the road from there so its been there a while, lol. Just go and find out for yourself.
Dont let the outside fool you! I have heard many good things about Freds Diner, everyone Ive talked to said their food is great. I took my Wife and 2 Grandsons there for breakfast and everyone was right, the food is excellent! We definitely recommend the Pancakes, they are the BEST Weve ever tasted! We found the waitstaff to be very friendly and helpful. The dining room is clean and pleasant.Be prepared to wait a couple of minutes for a table, but it is well worth the time. I feel the prices are reasonable and the portions are very generous! Now I know why the parking lot is always full when I drive by.I highly recommend Freds Diner to everyone looking for a good quality meal.
Definitely a whole in the wall mom and pop spot. The portion of food is a good size so prepare for a large breakfast. I ordered the chicken fried steak, home fries , and toast the chicken fried steak was good but the white gravy on top was too thick not enough flavor for me . But the workers were nice . Expect a wait this is a pretty busy little place
Why is it that its the hole in the wall places tend to have some of the best food? Two words: Quality control.Might be slightly pricey, but the amount of food I had was worth it. Generous portion of bacon and the country fried steak I had was amazing. Cooked perfectly. Ive got to go back. Coffee was piping hot every pour, and the staff are attentive and extremely pleasant. Seemed to be a smaller dining area, but for the small building, what do you expect? Constant stream of people coming and going. Now I know why. 5 stars all the way :)
Lets start with the atmosphere. TRUE DINER. Its awsome. The staff was great. It was super busy yet everyone was helping each other an food was pumping out of the kitchen. I had the bratwursts eggs hash and a side of bacon. Food was amazing. Also the coffee has got to be the best Ive ever had at a diner. We will for sure be back.
Been hearing about the bacon here so went for the first time. Wasnt too bad at all, nice little mom-and-pop spot. I hear the bacon is baked then fried so its a little crispier than I like but still tasty. Plan on going back next Monday to try the liver and onions out.
Havent been there in a while but its not changed one bit. Perfect 👌👍 as always. Had the #2 eggs over easy, hash browns, ham(the size of a small plate and thick!!), And rye toast. Coffee was constantly refilled. Great service. The shirts the servers wear read on the back eat, pay, get out funny because they are super friendly and helpful.
This is a nice little place to get breakfast. The wait was somewhat long due to the excessive crowd. Our food arrived quickly and was hot. They sure do give you a ton of bacon. (a whole mound of it)....But overall to me it was a good average place to eat and not saying it like its a bad thing. The staff was really friendly and i noticed they seemed to know customers on a personal level which was warm and inviting. If you are looking for a good breakfast place that wont break the bank then this is a good place to start.
It was ok. we got the sausage gravy and biscuits, and they were nothing to write home about. Sausage gravy was kind of tasteless, with big lumps a flour. There wasnt a great deal of sausage in the gravy, but what sausage there was was very tasty. The service was really good though. Maybe we got the wrong things, so I dont think wed be going back anytime soon.
Food is beyond great!! You would never expect what is coming from the outside but it was a great surprise. I had a waffle with bacon, eggs, and the sausage gravy, and it was all excellent. My family had the steak and eggs and also very much enjoyed their food. They also give a great portion. Staff is very friendly and the prices are fair! It stays packed so be prepared for a little bit of a wait, and there isnt much of a waiting area, but its worth the wait!
When we went in its a small place but very friendly. The food was huge on our plates. I think for the price they want to stuff you fulltime! Our server was rude in the beginning but then lightened up with us. Young shouldnt be that way in a food service place but she did get over it soon enough. Coffee was hot and fresh, eggs and home fries were hot. Ham piece was HUGE compared to most, they could work on the country fried steak though. We loved it and would go again just for the breakfast!
Food is great, and service is fast. I often get grilled cheese for breakfast here, and it is cooked PERFECTLY every time. This diner may be the epitome of diners, or maybe Im just biased :) The coffee is typical, weak restaurant coffee, but the food is so good I dont care.
Dont let the exterior appearance put you off. The food was very good, and they really pile on the bacon! Excellent rye bread for toast as well. This not a fancy, roomy place decor, or lack thereof, the food is what stands out here. My only real complaint is that the service was not as good as I expected. To be fair, it may be that they were a bit understaffed for the number of customers they had. Would have given 5stars if the service had been better, 3 stars if the food vhad not been as good...
Was hungry for breakfast and just happened to be driving by. So glad we did! Service was excellent! The waitress was very good with my son (he likes to talk). And the food was really good down home cooking!Great breakfast selections and you will not leave here hungry.
I cant believe I havent eaten here sooner! My experience here was fantastic! We waited for a bit but the food comes out so fast it makes up for it and took less time than it would anywhere else on a Sunday morning. I got the salmon and it was a huge portion cooked perfectly for ten bucks! The service was outstanding...I cant say enough. If you live in the Akron area or are visiting you MUST check this place out!
The owner is just absolutely personable and hard-working... This establishment not only has the best food but always, always Snappy service! I cant emphasize this enough, as a critical person, there is nothing to criticize. Go here! Ignore the rough exterior, this is what gives it charm... Ignore the crazy line to get in the door it goes quick and theres a line it because its so good!
The buzz around Akron of Freds Diner being one of the best breakfast places in Akron brought us here & it did not disappoint! Despite, being quite busy, we were quickly sat. Our server, was friendly, helpful, and considerate! We ordered french toast & the #2 (both of which came with sausage or bacon like most breakfast places) However, unlike most breakfast places, Freds doesnt give you 2 tiny slices of bacon. No...at Freds you get 7 thick crunchy slices of bacon. The rest of our meals were great too! We cant wait to come back!
OMG!!!!! Portion size is incredible. We had a group of 7 & they made sure coffee cups never were empty. I actually dipped my fries (which were cooked to perfection) in the broccoli cheddar soup. My friend ordered the pork chops h they gave her 2 because they thought they looked to thin (they were thick). Highly recommend the place. Great old fashioned diner!!!
My friend and I go this diner several times a year for breakfast. The breakfasts are exceptional in taste and quantity. The service is very fast. Most of the time, our orders are ready after 10 minutes. The place is not fancy, more of a hole in the wall, but its worth it.
Omg the food n atmosphere was perfection, the portions made me feel like a medieval king! Plates full of bacon that would make ur eyes pop put n jaw hit the floor! Its delicious and the servers are so sweet and great at what they do, as well are the cooks n other staff, thanks for so many great starts to my day!
Freds diner is a quaint dinner with a throw back to the 50s. There is usually a wait to get in. There are 2 rooms with tables and benches and a counter with a few seats. The servers are very good the coffee is always fresh and hot. Free refills on drinks. The food is good with that homecooked feeling and the prices are reasonable.
This was the cutest little accidental find. We were looking for a place for breakfast and this was the closest on the GPS. We happened to wander in and had a wonderful experience. The food was good, the portions were huge, the prices were very fair and the atmosphere was that of an older diner. Our service was exceptional. We would recommend it to anyone .
I saw this place had good ratings and tried it with this guy Im talking to, it was awful. We didnt really mind the loud atmosphere because we are both servers, but the food and service was terrible. The food was burned, cooked incorrectly, or just gross. Even the coffee was bad, watered down and old. We even went back to try and give Freds a second chance and had the same experienced as the first time. Dont waste your money on crabby servers and staff or over priced gross food. No stars wasnt an option.
Nice little hole in the wall type diner. You may have to wait a few minutes to be seated. Fairly small and seating is a little cramped. Looks like an old house thats falling apart a bit with old floral wallpaper. Service is pretty fast and friendly. Food prices are really fair and lean to the lower side. You get nice sized servings and everything we have had has been really good! A side of bacon is more like a plate of bacon. My husband raves about the chicken fried steak. If you get there before 9 am on Saturday coffee is free. Its not fancy but you will leave full and satisfied! Staff wears shirts that read Eat, Pay, Get Out! That works for us.
Every Towns got a little eclectic breakfast place and accurate is no different. We have at least three, but this one is my favorite. Good prices good service good food kind of what youre looking for when you get up in the morning and want to have breakfast made for you.
First, the good isnt special. Its good, but there isnt one thing you cant make at home for less money. Second, its busy as can be, like call the fire marshal busy. The food just isnt worth the annoyance of the uncomfortable closeness you experience. Plus, the wait is super long. We were told 15 minutes for pick up. We got there 20 minutes later and it still wasnt cooked yet. We waited there for another 20 minutes. This was our third time there. It was ridiculous and unbelievable. Plus, they are extremely rude, so it is our last time there too!
Not gourmet by any stretch, just good home style food, eclectic, and terrific service. Not a chance in the world of leaving hungry. Its the very definition of the local spot that keeps them coming back. Met our son there for Sunday morning breakfast and very glad we did.
Somewhat of a hole in the wall place but love stopping by here for comfort breakfast food. The country fried steak smothered with sausage gravy was hot, tender, and slightly crispy on the outside. The home fries were also tasty. Much better food than Bob Evans and Cracker Barrel in my opinion.
Crowded very small space the service is okay for the amount of servers they have. Get ready to wait if youre not there early enough you will stand around outside in the cold. the pricing to eat there is reasonable you can get full off of one meals they give you enough to eat. clothes and crowded feeding be prepared to be very close to the person behind you and next to you depending on where you sit at
This is my go to weekend breakfast spot. Food is always good and portions are huge. The side of bacon can be split 4 ways and the steak and egg special is worth the wait. Though service is fast, the place is always packed, so be prepared to wait a bit for a seat during peak hours.
It was okay affordable for sure but once you catch a waiter at your table ask for everything napkins, butter ect. Cause it will be a while before they check on you and if you ask by time you get it when your meal will be almost over. But other than the busy service and servants not able to mutitask . its a cool spot to eat at. Free coffee before 9am. Nice portion of food as well for price you pay.
If anyone reads this comment regarding Freds Diner; take the time for yourself and visit his restaurant. With his friendly atmosphere, well deserving and plenty delicious food, and a great selection, you will not leave disappointed. When I read in Akrons Beacon Newspaper about his 30 year anniversary, I was proud to be a part of such greatness. FredDiner is worth the wait for a table. This is my grandchildren, husband and my family and friends restaurant. Freds Diner is a place of integrity, honor, merit and delicious FOOD.
Boy howdy I loved it. The exterior hints at the no-frills, down-to-business insides. The shirts say Eat. Pay. Get out. I followed directions, ate a fab plate of hash and potatoes, paid, and the next person waiting sat down and took my spot. This place is hopping. Enjoy!
Went this morning thought i was getting aloaded omelet. The menu listed all shorts of items. The lady did clarify i needed to specify items did not come with omelet. Very disappointed, she started raising her voice. Also they were packed insided like no feet between. Never never again.
Freds is the best place in Akron or even Summit County, to enjoy Breakfast. Solid people, stick to your ribs, Lovin all morning, have to go back, kind of hometown Breakfast! If you pass this one up? Shame on YOU! We eat here every chance we Get !!! Thank you, Fred and all of the crew! They know who they are!Murph_
First time at Freds. We had breakfast. The bacon, homefries, and corned beef hash were excellent!! The bacon was the best I have had... anywhere!! 100% homestyle cooking; not processed, frozen or out of a can like you find at many chain restaurants. We will definitely be back.
I love the biscuits and gravy! I was told today that I could substitute them, with a cup of gravy, for toast if I wanted something else. But theyre so good smothered in gravy, that I went for my usual! I cant tell if their slogan of Eat, Pay, Get Out! is for real, but the all business vibe I get from the staff might be telling me they mean it! ;-)
Doesnt even deserve a star. I went here when I was out of town. The waitress was rubbing her nose alot. I paid $9.65 for one egg bacon and toast with an orange juice! The food wasnt anything special or better than passable and my friend that was with mes food wasnt either. The biggest kicker was while standing in line to pay for my high priced not so great tasting food. I seen their company logo of a cheeseburger that says Eat Pay Get Out! . I feel like I was tricked into buying overpriced food served by a likely drug addict. To the owners I would request that they fix these issues and change their slogan!
You best plan A Head before you decide on a date to enjoy the yourself. The wait is worth it.their morto says alot to you. You cant find A better meal for your dollar. Last weekend I took my date to this establishment and was told that it was to much. And that says about the meal not. If you havent tried it yet but you thought about it. Pay and Leave.. ,.... . LOVE This place.
Freds is a timeless place that is a must if you are one of us that like the mom&pops rather than the big chains. My dad took me there when it was Duffs , then Garrets back in the 70s. The decor is still the same. Make sure sure to give Fred the thumbs up , cause hes there most every morningAt 6:00 am flipping pancakes & eggs just the way you like um ...get there before 3:00 for lunch , if your mom used to make fried bolonga , u gotta get the hillbilly Philly...
OUTSTANDING!!!!! My fiance and I GPSd a diner. Drove to 1 it was packed, went to Freds and it was fantastic.. portions were huge, (was wondering why a side of bacon was 3$ until i got it, couldnt finish it. Wrapped 2 pieces in a napkin to take.) price was fair, and very prompt....we waited 2 mins for our food.
Oh yeah n Fred’s diner I cannot say enough it has absolutely the best food I’ve had in years I can say at a restaurant I’ve gone West I’ve gone east I’ve got all over the world and you cannot get any better portions the biscuits and gravy absolutely Great and the number to can’t get any better than that I’m burgers
Nasty Food. Rude ServiceDoesnt like itDiner Review • Dec 07, 2012#2 Two Eggs, Sausage, Ham or Bacon, Homefries, Toast & Jelly.#5 French Toast, Sausage, Ham or Bacon. - After reading the reviews and growing tired of the norm, the wife and I decided to see what else was out there. Long story short we found ourselves at Freds Diner. Parking in front of the restaurant was full so we parked in the unpaved muddy overflow lot across the street. Once inside we were warmly greeted by a woman who shouted sit where ya like We chose the only available table in the back and ordered coffee. We did not have one waitress and were served by as many as 5 different ladies. Most of them were very polite. I Ordered #3 Two Eggs, Corned Beef Hash, Home fries, Toast & Jelly. My Wife had #5 French Toast, Sausage, Ham or Bacon. The potatoes on my home fries were blackening from sitting out too long plus they were under cooked. The bacon was plentiful and also under cooked( not crispy at all). My eggs were over cooked and scrambled with cheese does not mean place two slices of cheese on top of the eggs. The wife got excited when she was told the french toast was cooked with Texas style bread but when she got her order it was with regular bread and very dry. They did not have any sausage links so the wife chose pattys instead and she described them as inedible. Her eggs were also over cooked. The meal was horrible to say the least. My service was almost okay until I ordered an extra orange juice. After waiting 10 minutes to my astonishment the oldest waitress at Freds Diner threw a bottle of orange juice and a glass on the table and said Sorry, I Couldnt open it and walked away. I was so steaming mad I almost walked out of this place without paying. Avoid Freds Diner at all cost. You will be leave disappointed and angry.

2022-01-17What a pleasure to eat at Freds Diner and discover everything is the same, although its been years since Id been there. The small space is crowded, but that just shows you how good the food is. :)Ive included photos of the menu. It was hard to decide, but I chose a 3 egg omelette with cheese and bacon with a side of homefries and wheat toast. My dining companion had chicken and dumplings. We both dug in before I thought oh no! I forgot to take a picture!. Yes, Im that person, but only to back up the reviews I leave. Freds Diner is a welcome alternative to the chain restaurants, and boy does that kitchen staff put out the food quickly! A lot of hustle there. Well done guys!

2021-11-10This is one of my Pops favorite spots to eat at and I totally see why! Not only is the food amazing, but you get so much of it for the price. More often than not, youll have to wait a few minutes for a table because its always a full house out there, but its more than worth waiting for. I highly recommend the country fried steak platter (#9). You wont regret it!

2021-10-12I was looking for breakfast after a local race and this was just the ticket. The back of their shirts states Eat, Pay, Get Out. They are not messing around here. And for good reason, the parking lot is full with a constant flow of customers, many you could tell were regulars. All the servers were fun and happy. The food is outstanding and out before I could finish my first cup of coffee. The portions were just right with just a few leftovers for the lighter eater. I had the corned beef hash and my wife had french toast, so much french toast. The building is deceptively big with more room in the back so do not be discouraged when the lot is full of cars. This is a must for a great breakfast, quick, delicious, and on your way. We will be back.

2021-09-26Run the Akron Marathon, come here for a recovery meal. Great off the beaten path eatery - good food, great service. Simple menu and the food is served within minutes of playing your order. This place aint fancy, but it doesnt need to be if you are looking for well-made food that is reasonably priced 👍👍

2022-07-12Outstanding breakfast food. Reasonable pricing and they pile on the bacon! They still have a cup of coffee for $1.00. Friendly servers; prompt attention. The fry cook deserves a lot of credit in the turn around time with the food preparation.

2022-06-18Phenomenal food at a great price. The service was spectacular. Almost no wait from sitting to a friendly waitress coming to the table. Never had to wait on coffee, which for me is huge, especially considering they were quite busy. Will definitely return and highly recommend for a simple comfort food experience.

2022-06-04Freds is a great little old fashion dinner with real food not processed! Its a great environment, great staff, great food! Me and my fiance live right around the corner, good place to wake up for breakfast when we dont want to cook!
