We are urban folks and when it came time to move was decided to move downtown. Before deciding on First Place we did and exhaustive search of downtown accommodations that met our criteria: large floorplan with 3 bedrooms, indoor secure parking and reasonable rent (under 2K a month). We found all this and more at First Place. The staff is friendly and accommodating and have gone out of their way when we need them. Thus far the only negative Ive found is that you cant open the windows. It would be nice on a warm Spring day to be able to open the windows and let in the fresh air. To be fair we knew about the sealed windows before we moved in.However there is a nice outside patio with in ground pool that we are able to use (the property started out as a luxurious hotel - which explains the pool). In summary we made a good choice in selecting First Place for this stage in our lives.Update: We were recently informed that when our lease expires in a few months a renewal will cost us an additional $300 a month! Were moving out. Downtown is disgusting and unsafe. Weve lost count as to how many times weve been approached by beggers asking for a handout Not such a good decision after all.

First Place is well-suited for families or anyone else seeking an alternative to suburban rental communities. The building features large floor plans (3 bedrooms), outdoor pool deck with multiple grills, large storage units and convenient parking within the building. Weve taken advantage of the easy access to the bike trails (Bike Score is 88), Riverscape activities and the newly opened Metro Library. It is refreshing to be able to walk (Walk Score is 78) to get a pizza, catch a performance at the Schuster Center, or go to the downtown YMCA. The staff is great and keeps the building in incredible condition. An added perk- it is pet-friendly. Our kids really enjoy being so close to so much.

Was robbed there, almost certainly by an employee or contractor who was granted access to my apartment on the ruse of a broken water pipe.I decided to file a police report. That is when I found out who my landlord really was.First, they refused to talk to the police until they conducted their own investigation. This included blasting me for filing a report by trying to cast doubt on the claim -- a painfully obvious example of shaming the victim.Second, they refused to release video surveillance to the police. I dont know how this is not obstruction of justice or interfering with police business - but they did it. The detective had to come to the building, watch the video, and take notes, while being watched by an employee there.Third, they were issued a SUBPOENA - yes, a subpoena - for information relating to the people that had obviously entered my place - but for MONTHS they refused to release.Get this - the holder of the property - R&L Carriers (a trucking company out of Wilmington) stated in reply to the subpoena (something like:)R&L Holdings has no information on the employees or contractors at First Place Apartments. How is this possible? A bunch of lawyers playing games with their corporate structure, trying to make the police guess where the information was.The most important point here: The company that runs that facility cares nothing about their tenants - in fact - treated me with absolute disrespect and injustice. This fact is made worse by the fact that they had almost nothing to lose by cooperating with police.Disgusting.
