First time here. Service was great. Food was wonderful! I had an omelet from the brunch menu. Real locally sourced ham. Real fried apples. My husband had a chicken tender basket that was equally as good. The menu is large. Lots of southern choices. Highly recommend it!
We ordered last night for a pick-up time an hour and thirty five minutes away. When I arrived at the pick-up time, I was told that it wasnt ready and it would be another 20 or 30 minutes. 45 minutes later, an employee handed me my food without so much as a sorry for the wait. The food was good, but the poor planning and service really took it down a few notches.
I love the style of food with a good mix of southern and Creole. I had to update this review as I have eaten here a few more times and I continue to find new favorites on the menu. The fried plantains have been amazing each time. Also, the boiled peanuts were awesome. This is the first place up North I have seen them and they sure didnt disappoint from what Im used to in Georgia.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere, nice selection of craft beers and cocktails. Enjoyed the deviled eggs, jambalaya, grilled shrimp basket, southern fried chicken tenders with buttered corn and hush puppies. Jambalaya was excellent with hot sauce added and a good portion, all very filling. Highly recommend
Its very hard to find a place that offers more than 1 or 2 options as gluten free. This place offered 99% of the menu! They had a wide array of appetizers, meals, and desserts to choose from. I had the gumbo, which was really flavorful, and my friend had the tenders, made with gf flour with a traditional buttermilk fry, so it didnt have the odd texture other gf tenders have had. My friend was so excited for the gf tiramisu, he got extra to take home! Well worth the trip, we will definitely be back.
Almost everything on menu is gluten free!!Its a great place. The owners and employees are phenomenal. It is worth the drive for this celiac gal and her kiddos! There is so much to do in the area as well. #supportsmallbusinessUpdate - stopped in for quick bite and had dinner and a show! Really awesome!
Erie Street and the Venice is one of our favorite places to dine and enjoy with our friends. The food offerings are always delicious and beautifully prepared and the owner and chef Jeff Crowe, uses fresh, locally purchased ingredients where possible. Much of the produce, meats and baked goods come from Kents Haymaker Farmers Market. This not not only is the best choice for diners in terms of freshness and flavor, but also benefits our local economy. The Venice is a great bar with daily drink specials. We in Kent are fortunate to have the Erie Street and Venice in our community.
My girlfriend and I called with a few questions about the menu and were kindly greated by a gentleman named David. He was extremely polite as well as knowledgeable about the menu and was able to help us slightly alter a few desired dishes to meet our specific dietary needs. The foods quality was unparalleled and was prepared exactly as David described. We highly recommend Erie Street Kitchen to anyone in the area! We are already thinking about what we will order next!
I. Love. This. Place. The food is delicious! But more importantly, they are really accommodating with special instructions and dealing with dietary restrictions. I’ve only done takeout, and the experience has been safe and efficient. The chef often comes out and talks for a bit while your order is being brought out, and the employees have all been friendly. And they support other local businesses! I cannot recommend this place enough. Get the lobster roll, get the PO boys, get the tots and fries. Heck, get everything.
Drinks cheap but not good 🤔worse customer service the owner was very rude. the owner had a issue with us eating food not inside but outside of the bar . Even though we brought drinks from their restaurant which wasnt even set up or looked like a restaurant. maybe we wouldve got some food if we was offered a food menu . The main issue is how he addressed the situation if service was better maybe we wouldnt have a issue. Telling customers to leave in such a rude manner putting up the tables right as he is speaking to us. Acting like he didnt want our business.
Southern food meets Southeast Asian influences in their delicious Bahn Mi sandwich varieties. Southern delights include banging hush puppies and pimento Mac and cheese. Look out lobster roll...you are next. Great curbside pick up and delivery. Friendly service. Although this is not high end dining the food is delicious. Dont baulk at the prices because the quality and consistency is there! Call ahead to check their hours.
I worked in this kitchen several years ago while pursuing my undergraduate degree. I cant even begin to articulate how terrible of an experience I had working here. Regularly being talked down to or yelled at by the owner, being forced to work 12+ hour shifts (while being scheduled for much less than that and explaining that I had prior engagements), and much more in the short time that I was there. I can only imagine the toxicity the owner has made countless working students endure while trying to make a better future for themselves. Dont fill this owners pockets if hes exploiting the ones who work for him.Edit: Ofcourse the owner will try to discredit me rather than take accountability for his past actions. Do you really think that I would be posting this review several years later if it wasnt as bad of an experience as I had described?
Sitting in the Venice and ordering food from Erie Street might be one of the top five things I miss since this dang pandemic started. Folks, when the owner is not afraid of doing ALL the jobs, from taking orders, to serving to cleaning up, to hob-knobbing with the guests...no job too small for the Erie Street guy. I love that. Food is great. Service is great. Couple this little gem with the Venice Cafe and you have a diamond of a place to hang out. Cant wait for the live music to start again.
OK, so its a counter order spot inside a bar, but the food is quite good. I had the beet salad and my wife had the lobster roll. Both were phenomenal. The deviled eggs in my salad were one if the best things Ive eaten in ages, a total surprise something so simple could be so good. Ive had the jambalaya before and it was fantastic as well. If this were a sit down restaurant, it would be a no brainier 5 star.
Got carry out last night...Hot nashville chicken Banh mi, Lobster roll, Stuffed peppers, deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes, fried mushrooms, tots and to round it off Beignets. The lobster roll had about a pound of fresh lobster meat on it and the stuffed peppers were fantastic. Everytime we order I am amazed at the quality of the food. Just fantastic!
I cannot say enough good things about the food and its quality. Most of the ingredients are locally sourced, the flavors are amazing, and the quality is superb. Although its inside of another establishment, its well worth the visit to try their Chicken and Waffles, the deviled eggs, or their fried green tomatoes.
I am on a diet that’s basically everything needs to be Gluten Free, and that’s how I found them, thru Find Me GF app. I ordered the gluten free lobster Mac, and omg, soooo good!! So much food too. My husband has the bisque soup and he said it’s the best he ever had, also, he had a meal with lobster and fries and lobster bisque, which he completely loved! Staff friendly. Excelent food, will come back to dine in. Thank you for the GF options!!
Great menu in casual counter restaurant tucked in a bar. Order at the counter and food is delivered to your table. Lots of chicken strip choices, including Chicken Strips and Waffles (very sweet honey mustard drizzle) and Nashville Hot Style. Lots of Cajun and southern dishes. Very helpful staff. The only drawback is the noise level.
Excellent fresh food prepared by a real chef who clearly takes pride in his food. The place is located in downtown Kent in the Venice Cafe. There are daily specials and a good selection of unique, but not bizarre foods. Ive eaten here five times since they opened and have always enjoyed the food.
In a word; delicious and satisfying! This is the restaurant this little city needs. Authentic gulf coast flavors on a foundation of local ingredients, prepared and served by a staff that seems to have remained largely the same since opening. Your rational mind will know where you are but dont be surprised if you peek at the NOAA Hurricane Center website (just to be safe)... and chicken so good youll swear it was eagle. 🇺🇸
This is a tiny kitchen with a few dining tables that is located inside the Venice Cafe, which is actually a bar. This review is specifically for the Erie Street Kitchen that is inside Venice. The food is amazing. Prepared by a chef, not a cook. Old southern farm foods like fried green tomatoes, real Nashville hot chicken, greens, hush puppies, etc. Everything is fresh and handmade, nothing frozen or Sysco-style. They use a lot of local vendors for their ingredients. The rest of the bar is typical old Kent bar from my parents era.
Fair at best. I hear it advertised on the radio all of the time. You go in, seat yourself, walk to the bar to get a drink, then go to the opposite corner to place your food order. They are different businesses, so you have to open different tabs for food and drinks. Food was fair - its served on styrofoam and you go get your own napkins and plastic utensils.
To say this place is great would be a disservice to the establishment and a lie. The English language does not possess the proper words to describe how utterly transcendent and amazing this place is. Well I guess I was wrong, the English language does possess proper words. This place is transcendent and amazing.

2022-04-17What happens when there are more than a few things you want from a menu? Just order them all and hope for the best. And order them we did at Chef Jeff Crowe at Erie St. Kitchen in Kent Ohio. We ordered, in no particular order, Lobster Roll, Deviled-Eggs, Gumbo, Jambalaya, Goat Cheese Balls Cajun Cheese Curds. With a. Side of Cardiologist. 🤡. All of it was elevated from “bar food” by the care that Chef Jeff and his staff put into the prep. Located in the historic Venice Cafe in Kent. This should be a “must try” on your destination food trips.

2021-10-08I enjoyed the “southern taste” that 𝐄𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐊𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐧 provides! I ordered the grilled chicken 🍗 + shrimp 🍤 jambalaya that’s accompanied by whole green beans and hush puppies. The food was prepared pretty quickly and I enjoyed every bite of it. Next time I’ll have to try the tenders, lobster, and po boys they have as well. Certainly good eats! 👏🏾

2021-10-16Very good southern style food! The Jambalaya was excellent! Tons of gluten free options. Amazing desserts. A somewhat casual setting inside a bar, but the food was great! Fried green tomatoes are so good. Worth the trip!

2022-05-06Some of the best lobster bisque I’ve had in a while! And the rest of the food was amazing as well. Drinks were great and the down home service from the owner and his staff were top notch.

2022-02-19Dirty forks, ordered Guiness asked for glasses since it came in a can. Server brought back wet sloppy glasses with a dirty look. Ordered fried green tomatoes and hush puppies., both had no flavor. Server never came back to check on food, never questioned why all the food was left on the plates. Terrible experience.

2022-04-05Hadnt been to The Venice since grad school (longer ago than Id like to admit). Met a friend there to catch up. Still has the same charm but with a much-needed upgrade in food. The Erie Street Kitchen is that. The menu includes gluten free and vegetarian options, more than just a salad. Beer selection isnt too wide but covered the basics. Fast and friendly service. Food portions were generous. Fantastic array of deserts There is also a small stage for live music. Very good experience. Will be going back.

2022-03-18Best seafood Ive had in ages. Pricey, but justified by quality, size and the fact that they use local ingredients. I really appreciate that. That said, order delivery. They keep the noise inside turned all the way up, so that even pickup orders are tough to make out. Not sure who could survive eating there with their hearing intact!

2022-07-03Found a nice booth seat right away, and very friendly staff. The fried mushrooms, and southern fried items lack in flavor, no salt, no seasoning. The beat salad and Nashville spicy chicken salad had good comments from the party.
