My absolute favorite Mexican restaurant. The food itself is just so good and fresh. The flavor almost rivals my Mexican mother-in-laws cooking and no other restaurant Ive ever eaten at comes close. I do wish they had margaritas on the menu. Sometimes my group wants margaritas so we have to choose a different restaurant. Its not very spicy, but you can ask for some jalapenos if you want to bump up the spice.
Love the food!! The enchiladas are the best in Toledo!! Everything is fresh!! Looking for organic here you will get it. The food has so much flavor , most Mexican restaurants in area has the same taste, here you will get food that has been made with love. The owner takes pride in what so cooks, recipes handed down from mother. She stopped and talked with us for several minutes. The staff is so nice I think we talked with most of the staff. If you have not tried El Tipico what are you waiting for.
Hands down, the BEST restaurant we have been to in Toledo. This hidden gem is worth taking the time to visit! They are not only very welcoming and treated us like family from the moment we walked in, but were also completely accomodating for food allergies and restrictions. We spent some time after our meal talking to the owner and staff and learned about how they give back to the community and take care to supply fresh ingredients. We will be back, and would recommend this place to anyone!!
Oh My Goodness! I can not say enough good about this restaurant! The most attentive, passionate care and service from the staff. The food is all exceptional quality ingredients, delicious, cooked with skill and generously portioned. The building and owners have a rich history, theres plenty of seating, and its very allergy friendly! The entire menu is labeled for vegan/gluten free options with warnings about items that contain nuts. The beef tips are tender and delightful! Tip and come again, I will be!
El Tipico is our familys favorite Mexican restaurant in the Toledo area. Family owned and operated, authentic recipes: carnitas, chicken mole, tamales..., and professional/kind staff. We ordered catering for 50 people for a birthday party last weekend, and not only was the food and presentation incredible, the owner and an additional worker delivered and set up the entire buffet! Thank you for making our event special with your amazing food and service.
Every time I get a chance to come to this place, I go! The food is EXCELLENT, the service is EXCELLENT, and even since Ive moved out of town and have not been there in 7 years, the owner Deena still remembered me when I snuck in town to visit family! From Senior Villa, on down to Deena, they have treated like family! I love them just like family as well!I encourage you to pay them a visit, and when you do, just say Steven sent me!
All I gotta say is good reviews still don’t mean the food is good. I order the easiest thing beef tacos and rice, im sorry I know Mexican food and this was not it. The rice was mushy and tasteless and the beef had a weird taste. No bueno the last time this place was good was when I was a little kid. Not to mention $23 for 5 tacos and rice is pretty expensive if u ask me.
This is a very good family owned restaurant. I have been going there for years and have never had a bad meal. Our dinner tonight was exceptional, I love that it is organic and gluten free yet it is still very tasty. Please give it a try and I’m sure you will enjoy it.
10 stars!! The service and food were incredible. It was my families 1st time there. Everything was fresh and delicious. Juanita was our server and did a great job! You can tell the owner takes great pride in how she runs her restaurant. She seems to cook with love and it shows. She genuinely cares about each and every person that walks in her place as do the rest of the staff. Most restaurants in Toledo could learn alot from this place. The menu is extensive and the place is very clean. My family stated that this is their favorite restaurant in Toledo! El Tipico is a must try! They are vegan/vegetarian friendly and organic for a small charge. We will def be going back! Just wish we would have tried it sooner.....Toledos hidden GEM.
This is the best Mexican restaurant I been to. I have been eating here for over 20 years, and Im never disappoint. The staff is very friendly fast and helpful. The puff tacos are worth the wait. The salsa is fresh and its hard to stop eating. I have never had a bad meal.
What a wonderful experience! The food was so delicious. Best Mexican food I have ever had. My two sons, 7 and 4 loved it as well and kept saying let’s come back for all our birthdays. Dina, the owner and our server (didn’t catch her name) were so sweet and you could feel the passion for the food. Whatever you do order dessert you won’t be sorry! Also very accommodating to us gluten free people out there. Everything is fresh and organic.
This was my first visit and I will be back! Its a small, quaint, family owned business and the food and service were excellent. My friend and I went on a Tuesday evening and it was busy, but we were able to get a table quickly. We had a guacamole appetizer and it was fresh and delicious. We both ordered the Mexican pizza and we were not disappointed. It was huge, delicious and filling. Looking forward to going back and trying another Mexican goodie!
Love this place! The food, service, ambiance, vibe - all superb. The food is so exciting to me; they offer vegan and organic options, a variety of house made sauces, and they use veggies from their own organic garden growing out back - which they will share with anyone, by the way. We had a large group and they were ready for it with a system that worked brilliantly, the food came out very fast and hot and delicious, and we were so impressed. I cant stop thinking about the vegan taco pizza I had, others who tried some loved it too, even the meat eaters. The interior decoration is well done and adds to the overall cozy but eclectic and unique aura of the entire place. Its not in the fanciest part of town, but that didnt bother me at all as the character of this place makes it a world on its own. Coming from NYC; I was so pleased and inspired by my experience, I cannot wait to go back when Im in the area again! Well done and thank you El Tipico!
First time visiting will also be our last. Saw pretty good reviews and thought it would be convenient after visiting the zoo. Wasnt excessively busy around 2pm on a Saturday but it took at least ten minutes before my wife and two children were seated. That would seem like no wait at all at other times and establishments but there was no one else waiting in front of us and there were plenty of open tables. Maybe we caught them between shifts or short staffed. Either way the service wasnt bad once we got seated but the food was disappointing from the chips and salsa onward. Chips were cold and didnt appear to be home made. Salsa was bland. We were going to try their puffy San Antonio style tacos but they said they were out so we split steak and chicken fajitas and tried one hard shell taco. Flavor wise it wasnt bad but nothing special either. The $18 fajitas had only three small strips of chicken and steak which was underwhelming to say the least. The most disturbing thing however was when we asked for more napkins and went to use one we noticed it had blood on it. No one at our table was bleeding anywhere and we noticed it as soon as we picked up the first napkin after the waitress left. I didnt ask for an explanation as I dont need one since even before that point we already decided we wouldnt be back.
I dont know anywhere else in the whole region where you can eat organic food at a sit-down Mexican restaurant like this. I LOVE how all of the waiters and waitresses know how to make all of the food; they can describe and talk about the food in detail because they are trained with how to make everything. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming to families with kids. The portion sizes are a little small, but thats okay - we shouldnt be pigging out and I feel they are priced accordingly. Their chicken fajitas are incredible but they do take a while to be made; worth the wait though! We just love El Tipico!
When I hear authentic Mexican, and I see a small place that is packed, I expect it to be amazing. I was underwhelmed. The seasoning and spice level was low. The food was good, but not great. The service was awesome and we had no trouble getting dining with a person with a gluten allergy and a vegan.
The food is AMAZING! Always fresh and made with quality ingredients! The owner is friendly and always involved! Beautifully decorated, the restaurant has a cozy atmosphere that is always pleasant. El Tipico also catered our wedding and all our guests absolutely loved it! This is a hidden gem of Toledo!
Ive definitely been to my share of Mexican restaurants, but this one is a hidden gem! Blink and youll miss it, and that would be a shame- theres something for everyone on the menu. Gluten free & vegan options are not a struggle here. The chips & salsa are definitely fresh, and the quesidilla I ordered was huge- I cant wait to have lunch tomorrow.
The restaurant was clean with inviting atmosphere. The staff and the owner were nice, friendly and very welcoming. Vegetarian menu was delighfil and gluten free. The owner made a dish for us (which was not in menu) in the way we wanted. The food was fresh and delicious and the service was great. They were asking often to refill our drinks and salsa. The cost was very reasonable. The owner gave me a free T-shirt as a souvenir. All six of us really enjoyed our dining experience and will stop again when we pass through.
Some of the best Mexican food in Northwest Ohio! Not only is the food organic, but the menu is also full of vegan and gluten-intolerance options. Theres even vegan cheese! Our server Kari was the best and made sure that both my sister and I, who have different dietary restrictions, had an amazing dinner. Definitely check it out.
What a great place for some authentic Mexican food. I been going there for years and the food is always delicious and the staff is great. I order a Taco salad today one of the best taco salads I had in along time. I highly recommend coming here you will not be disappointed
Excellent! The salsa was amazing, service was great (thank you, Angelina!) and the food was wonderfully fresh and remarkable. We are a family of 6 with girls from ages 1 to 15, so its hard to find a restaurant that gets a thumbs up with us and the girls. Thank you, El Tipico! See you soon. 😊
Great Mexican food! Organic veggies grown right on site. (I checked it out - VERY impressive!) Every time Ive been there the service has been fast and friendly. Nice atmosphere - very open with light colors; the remodeling has made a big improvement. One thing people may like like is they dont serve alcohol, which is fine for me (Im a water guy.) They do have a bar with some creative non-alcoholic beverages if thats your thing. The location is a bit out of the way for me but it really is worth the trip.
Driving back to Chicago through Toledo we discovered El Tipico. If you want some of the best Mexican food than stop here. The food was fresh and light. Very filling. The wait staff is excellent and very friendly. El Tipico is a real gem of Toledo and we will definitely make this detour next time out this way. Its really hard to find a place in which all you say are positive things with no negatives but this is that place. Our waitress was Jill and she was also wonderful.
I originally come from Tulsa, which has a huge Mexican population and any number of outstanding restaurants and chefs; but I had to come to Toledo to find the freshest, best cooked, finest Mexican food I have ever eaten. El Tipico is wonderful, hands down. Both my girlfriend, an avowed carnivore, and I, a vegan (somewhat flexible where sour cream is involved), can find delicious, well-cooked food that simply makes us happy. (The chef made me see onions in a new light.) Service is wonderful and friendly, though be prepared to wait when they’re crowded, such as on Friday and Saturday evening. Its more than worth your time.
Best Mexican restaurant in Toledo!!!!!! Have tried them all. Has the best and most like real Mexican food should be. The TOSTADAS are the best ever and home made and not the thin cheapy things. And stays crunchy till gone. The rice and beans are the best, food and service was excellent! Well worth the trip if you want real Mexican food!!!
Went for dinner with my husband and this has to be the best Mexican restaurant we have here in Toledo and the surrounding area honestly. The food was fresh and incredible, the service was on point and the owner made a point to talk to every guest she had in her dining room. . Were very impressed and will definitely be back!
NOT mexican food. The salsa was tasteless, the food was overpriced for an american take on spanish dishes. I had fajitas that cost $13.99 and there was literally only 6 pieces of chicken on my plate when it was delivered. Talk about overpriced. There are to many other great places for me to ever consider going back here. Be aware you will pay a ton for the portion size you get.
Food just ok, I did love the salsa though. Had burrito supreme with beef tips which everyone in our party had. It was more like an enchilada with enchilada sauce and shredded beef. The waitress was nice and place was clean. Wouldnt go back but overall was decent for the price.
After looking at the reviews I really expected more. Has a very authentic Mexican feel when you come in. From what I understood the food would also be authentic Mexican. It was not. It caters to the Americans. Had a lot of food items that you would find in a Tex-Mex spot. The waitress was really rude and short with us. Rolled her eyes everytime we asked a question. I would also expect a organic restaurant to carry their own aguas frescas, but was not the case. Would not recommend. It was in a really bad part of town.
We all absolutely loved it there we cannot wait to go back and try other things on the menu the food was fantastic. We had the grass fed beef tips with shredded chicken the chicken mole and tamales and we had nachos as an appetizer they were out of this world with beans ground beef and shredded chicken Im excited to go back I cant wait till 5 tomorrow
Does not live up to all the hype. We tried this restaurant for the first time, and the flavors do notagree with my wife and me.The salsa had a very overpowering tomato taste and was inconsistently spicy. The guacamole on the other hand was very bland. Very little flavor. The queso was thick and must have been made with goat cheese. This created a pungent taste that was not to my liking. The fajitas were satisfactory, but the portion of meat was small compared to other Mexican restaurants.Im glad to have tried the restaurant, but needless to say we will be eating at other Mexican restaurants in the future.
The food tasted and was presented pretty well. The service was a bit slow but I think that was due to only one server for the restaurant, not terrible but a slow. They were out of a few things and I could get my cheese dip so that kinda sucked but it buisness thats prone to happen. Chicken chimichonga was very good!
Food was excellent. Vegan cheese option and overall very vegan & vegetarian friendly. Fresh and delicious salsa, guac, toppings, etc. Surprisingly affordable, service good although it took a little bit of time to receive our food, and waitress friendly and accomodating. We were visiting from Detroit area but would factor this in as motivation to come back to Toledo!
Fantastic!!! Foodies celebrate! Keto options as well! I thought I had gone to heaven when I spotted the Low-Carb Mexican Dinner on the menu. Imagine a plate of enchiladas, burritos and tacos, only they forgot to use any of the flour wrappers (or refried beans) - just a plate full of amazing organic meats (real beef tips - yum), and super fresh veggies. Exceeded my expectations by 1000% Can not wait to go back!
I was so excited to try this place. Im a vegan and heard good things. My husband, my 6 month old and my 9 year old went to try it. First of all there was no parking so we had to park across the busy street and down a block. When we walked in at least 5 employees made eye contact with me but didnt say anything. We waited by the hostess stand for ten minutes without being greeting or acknowledged at all. My husband even walked to the dining room and no one said a word to us! cant say anything for the food cause we left after that. Very disappointed 😕
I wished you served liquor because I cannot imagine how delicious your house made, fresh squeezed margaritas would be. But I cant judge you for not having a liquor license.By far, some of the best Mexican food Ive had in Toledo. I will make the drive to come see you again!
The renovation is wonderful and the food is great. However, the wait, first for someone to come with a menu, and then to come back to take the order, AND FINALLY the interminable wait for the food to come. I love the food at El Tipico, but dont go often just because the wait time is so long.
Unbelievable food very fresh and just simply great food. The prices are perfect and the portions were huge. I libe in chicago and would drive back just for this food. The staff and atmosphere were pleasent also but the Food is the winner here. Its all so fresh you would think it was all picked right when you order. GO AND GO NOW!
Took over a half hour for us to order food so we left. Tables that came in after us had already placed their order. Our waitress was having trouble with the credit card machine. Not once did she come check on us or tell us it was going to be a while before we could order, if that was the case the other server could have taken our order. Out of cola and stevia pop as well. Not happy and not how it used to be when I was a kid.
When I first arrived there was no where to park. I open the door to the restaurant and never once was greeted by anyone. In addition when it was time to order our server made us aware there was going to be an aditional 30 min wait for our food. The food was okay but lacked flavor. Overall I was left dissatisfied enough to make my first restaurant review. They need badly to improve on their customer service skills.
WHAT A GEM! Growing up here, this was my favorite place for Mexican. It just does not get any more authentic and delicious! But it was after living in New Orleans, Philly, and even NYC that I realized how much a treasure El Tipico truly is. All the years living in New York City I never could find there any Mexican place that paralleled. And every time I was back in Toledo to visit family, El Tipico was at the top of my list of must dos. They are the BEST.
The décor is wonderful! a very warm and inviting atmosphere. the vegetarian menu is absolutely delightful with a variety of choices. I dont recall the name of the dish, but will describe it. grilled shrimp, my husband had fish, served on a bed of Mexican rice served with guacamole salad and two different types of sauce. the first was a sweet mango and red bell pepper, and the second was a spicy sweet barbeque with mango. the salsa and pico d gallo was fresh with just the right amount of jalapeno. we were attended to in a timely manner, and only waited approximately. 10 min for our dinner. the menu is very easy to read, with an X to mark any dish that may take a little longer to prepare.I also went on Saturday for breakfast. vegetarian chorizo, potatoes, eggs, cheese, peppers and onions. all wrapped neatly in a flour tortilla that I could pick up...and it was huge! I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!
My girlfriend and I went here for the first time assuming itd be the normal Mexican restaurant experience, which for the most part it was. We were looking forward to trying their margaritas, but were told they dont have any alcohol. Also they were out of puff tacos on a Friday at 7pm.
Great customer service.. terrible tacos...I read the response from you..I did ask my server for the correct taco that I wanted...when I got home to eat them they were stale taco shells & old steak meat that must have been cooked in the morning..whatcha waste of $9 dollars for 3 old stale old steak tacos
I quit eating el tipico every time I went to get my carryout order it would not be ready and they would have me waiting forever. Then they had my food wrong so I call to get it right and I was on hold for like 40 min I was not happy needless to say. The staff are rude and take no blame for their horrible service I would give them zero stars. The food isnt worth the hassle its really not that great.

2022-03-04As always our meal was fantastic. El Tipico is one of the best restaurants in Toledo. My wife and I have been coming for five years and we love it. There are few restaurants around that use ingredients that are as fresh and of the quality that they use. It really makes a difference.I think the ET nachos are the best appetizer Ive ever had and we always get them. The food always comes out prepared to perfection and very hot. I love the family history on the walls. Its a great dining experience. Our server was great. She was a very memorable person and she has been our server most of the times we have come in. We were happy to see her last night.Your restaurant is an absolute local treasure. Thank you

2022-06-29I lived in Los Angeles for five years, and would frequently travel south to Baja California, Mexico. Id dine in the little towns, which gave me the experience to identify and appreciate true Mexican cuisine. El Tipico is the real thing, and thats hard to find. What I liked best about El Tipico is the simplicity of fresh ingredients prepared just for you. They are clearly not mass-producing food and reheating it. Nor are they merely piing on some ketchup-salsa and calling it Mexican. I recommend experiencing it. Just be advised, it is likely quite different than what you are accustomed to. Its an improvement, and youll love it.

2022-02-19I would like to first begin with the owner Dina. I came to eat in her late fathers restaurant and she treated me like I was family. I was dining alone and she came to my table, struck up a conversation and gave me the history of her late father and the great restaurant she now .runs. We laughed, traded our histories and she provided some very tasty Tex Mex and Mexican dishes. I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. It was a pleasure to support this establishment.

2022-07-12We had a large group and they accommodated us without much notice. This was our first time but we went off the star rating. I was surprised and pleased with the organic and healthy options including non-dairy cheese since I am lactose intolerant. My chimichanga was so delicious and had so much chicken! Im not usually a fan of rice but I ate every bit of it. We will be back and cant wait to try something else on the menu!

2022-03-07The food was great and the owner of the establishment was very friendly and nice she shared the restaurants history with us. It was cool that she could recommend menu items based on what you preferred noting that most of their ingredients are fresh and organic. This is a great place to eat

2019-08-07Absolutely fantastic in every single aspect!!! The service and food here is phenomenal! You wont regret it. The entire menu can be made vegan and gluten free which is a huge feat and the owner is a beautiful and very special human being. She cooks the cuisine herself and everything is made with genuine love. Wonderful, wonderful experiences here. I will seriously be driving back from NY on some upcoming weekends with this restaurant being the main focus of the trip. Perfect. And on a side note, the coffee and ice tea is just as perfect as the rest of the food! ❤️

2022-05-08Not going back there!First of all, their parking lot is so small, we had to park in the side of the street ..We were a party of 10, and they gave us 2 plates of food at the time every 20 min, because they decided to take care of the carry outs while they had our order on process.I order a low carb Mexican dinner, with lettuce, fajitas steak, and Pico de Gallo, they gave me my food without the Pico the Gallo, and when they gave it to me I had already finished my dinner. The lettuce that they gave was so little....
