Dons Lighthouse Grille in other cities:
Food was delicious! Drinks super good and strong! Wish the server was more friendly with us. Customer service is a must for us. We couldve left a bigger tip but we felt that the service was not that great. The restaurant wasnt even busy when we there. I only gave this place 5 stars because of the food and drinks!
While our waitress could have been a little more friendly, the food certainly made up for her lack of personality. My husband and I both had lobster and it was the sweetest, most tender lobster tail Ive ever had! I normally dont care for green beans, but these were pretty yummy, although could have used a bit more seasoning. The mashed potatoes were divine! My pomegranate martini was also pretty top notch!
My family and I have been going to Dons to celebrate birthdays for a few years now & we were just there last night. Food is usually always good, but the service & food prep was not last night. And frankly, we have had several less-than- satisfactory servers a couple of times, now that I think about it. Our server was fine, but it took a HALF HOUR until we got water after we arrived, it took about 20 mins after we ordered before we got our drinks and overall it took 3 hours for us to have complete dinner service. Two of the steaks were overcooked & a side was served cold. All were replaced, but the rest of the party was nearly done with their meals before new steaks were brought to the diners. If the restaurant is understaffed, then they should NOT be filling up their entire dining room. There were only 2 other tables left in the restaurant when we left and they arrived well after we did. Not once did she come by after we received our food to check on us. She couldnt, she was too busy. We will definitely be looking for other options in the future.
Made reservations for the lounge, since the dining room was full. parking lot on the side/front of the restaurant had spots open & we were seated immediately. our server, norman, was friendly, helpful and efficient. he recommended the walleye & it was the best ive ever had! my husband ordered the steak and lobster, which he raved about! the restaurant was clean & they were all fast! norman even brought us out a dessert with a candle on it, to help us finish off our anniversary dinner. 1st time here, but will recommend & plan to return. thank you for making our 15th special!
We had a great dinner! There were so many good things on the menu it was hard to choose one. I had the scallops with Farro risotto and broccolini. It was sooo good. The broccolini was cooked perfect and the risotto was cheesy. Well definitely go back to try other delicious dinners.
This place is amazing!! My wife and I stopped in here for our anniversary dinner and it was the best. We were looking for an upscale restaurant that offers seafood and came across Dons Lighthouse. Made a reservation online with ease and had no wait when we arrived. The restaurant is very clean and the staff are more than welcoming.I ordered the surf and turf which was one of the best Ive ever had. My wife had the king crab legs and those were amazing as well!Look no further and give this place a shot!
Usually love this place but 4/6/22 had the worst meal ever. Ordered 6 oz Filet Mignon medium rare. Steak was rare and cold with the ommision of the Cabernet demi glaze. The whipped potatoes were watery and could have been a plate smear or a gravy. Green beans were not seasoned. Must have been a bad night in the kitchen!!!
Nothings changed about DLH and it still some folks Go-To spot. To me its a little dated and the menu could use a pick me up. I ordered the steak Oscar and I barely had any crab present on my steak. I ordered it medium and it came back Well done and tough. The mash potatoes were watery and tastess, but the service is still awesome 👌
Such a beautiful and warm restaurant! I loved how I could see the kitchen right as I walked in and how private the booths were. I ordered a Sangria (red) and the Filet & Scampi dinner. Fresh crusty bread with an herb butter was also brought to the table. Honestly my favorite thing on the plate was the broccolini!! It was so soft and I really enjoyed having the whole stalk on my plate. My beef was excellent and cooked exactly how I wanted it, everything was just amazing. I look forward to eating here again after a day at the beach and trying the Portuguese Stew.
The food is really delicious. The service and hospitality are a little above average. That is sad because I really wanted to give a 5 stars.I hope they read the comments and improve the service quality.Edit: I gave them four stars and had some comments about the service last time. Well I went again with my parents in law and it was an embarrassment. The waitress was always in a hurry that she leaves the table before we are done ordering. She missed up one of the orders, did not bring bread and butter, didnt check with us at all, and never said a single good word throughout the meal. When it happens once you tend to give excuses, but this is the second time that we received a bad service, and it will be the last time.I gave 2 stars as an honest review because some of the dishes were pretty good. However, the fried calamaris were rubbary, seafood chowder was less than average, and the cream brule had a too stiff and thick layer of burnt sugar.Overall it was an awful experience. What a shame!
Had a great dinner here for my wifes birthday! The food and service were top notch!Mussels appetizer to start.Wife had the seafood chowder, king crab legs.I had french onion soup, steak and scampi meal. They gave my wife chocolate mousse for her birthday.Definitely have to come back since she wants scallops now! Thanks again!
My husband and I wanted to try someplace new to celebrate our Anniversary. Yes we turned to the best locals Google local guides, and Dons was top pick for Seafood. The ambiance was wonderful, safety was also on the menu, which made for stress free dining. The Portuguese Seafood stew with an add-on Lobster tail made my Seafood dream come true. And for the non-seafood eaters oh my goodness the Buttermilk fried chicken breast, White cheddar mashed with Cajun spinach was Dipping for those not hip, That mean super duper good!
Phenomenal food and service to match! Starting with the bread service served with some sort of sweet basil butter, simply delicious! App of middle neck clams was classic white wine broth and perfectly execute.I enjoyed the scallops with a wild grain risotto, delicious! scallops perfectly seared and so much cheese and flavor in the risotto! Treated myself and added a lobster tail too! House special with melted butter was perfection. My partner had the surf n turf and was equally pleased, the filet he literally cut with the butter knife! Excellent wine list, duckhorn is always a treat! plus it happened to be half off bottles night! Our server was lovely and glowing positive energy, quickly provided anything requested! Very fair prices across the board and entrees include sides! I highly prefer this to the trendy ala carte style most steakhouses have adopted.10/10 experience!
I guess maybe Walleye isnt one of their specialtys (and they didnt have a problem taking it off the bill) but theyre Cod was spectacular and they should bottle their sauce, it was a excellent pairing. The atmosphere was very relaxing and although it was a cool day the inside was moderately warm but not stuffy. Thanks for a great evening Dons Lighthouse Grille my mother really enjoyed herself.
Where do I begin with thia restrauant......about 14yrs ago in January my boyfriend and I tried to go here and we were turned around, because he had on boots, because it snows in Cleveland. He decided to surprise me and take me there on a random Monday. We were seated and waited for about 30mins before our drink orders were taken. We asked to be moved to the dinning area. Once we were moved our orders were taken. We ordered oysters and stuffed mushrooms they were great. For our main course we ordered the surf and turf and ribeye Oscar style. The lobster was great, but the steaks were over charred. Which left the steaks tasting burnt. The quality of the steaks were low and very bland in flavor. This place reminds me of somewhere ones grandparents would go. If asked would I go again this place would be a pass!
Dons Lighthouse is a Cleveland treasure. I took my husband here for his birthday and they did not disappoint! We got there towards the end of happy hour and we had some incredible appetizers at a fantastic price. The calamari (excellent and crispy with a tangy, delicious sauce), the muscles (oh my GOD, that broth!!!) and some cocktail shrimp (very fresh!) We were sad the appetizers were done but only looking forward to continuing our food journey with them. He got the fillet and scampi, and I got the steak and lobster Lighthouse Favorites. Let me just tell you about the steaks... They rival Mortons with how buttery and excellent they were. Seafood is fresh, and all of the sauces are absolutely to die for. And the service was awesome as well. Our server surprised us and brought out a delicious cream puff that was flaky and light, a perfect note to end on. She checked on us often for drink refills and made sure everything was too our liking. Dons Lighthouse rivals a lot of other steakhouses out there and we look forward to coming back to celebrate again.
Always a pleasure to eat there. Our server Patty was so nice and made the night very relaxed and pleasurable. She recommended the Portuguese Stew and it was delicious. I just wish they brought back the king crab legs that my wife and I loved going there for in the past. But at least it gave me a chance to try something new and delicious. We will for sure be back!
Very nice resaturant. Good food with very reasonable price. From the get up and Valet parking, we were expecting very expensive menu but it was very reasonable. The cost for value is well justified. Our waitress was very patient with us. We did try adult root beer and it was great. presention of dishes are wonderful.I strongly recommend this place.
Positive experience from start to finish. Conveniently made a reservation online. Greeted by a polite young man at the door, decor was charming and simple, were seated very close to another table (heard their entire conversation...although it was amusing), the waiter was very professional and we had to wait for nothing...he was on top of his game, delicious food, classic drinks. We ordered a salmon special. It looks dry but it was moist and delicious...eapecially the asparagus and rice. The crab legs were not disappointing. Everyone was pleased. They brought us out an amazing eclair for our anniversary...on the house. Id say overall it was a little pricier than the 2 $$ on the site...id expect to spend $30/person on food...but great quality and worth it!We will be back! Thanks for a great date night!
We went there this evening and had their 1/2 Chicken Clambake. It was delicious. That bake was the best we have had in a long time. We also had the Manhattan Clam Chowder and the New England Clam Chowder. Both were good. We had reservations and were seated right away after they opened. Our Server was attentive and took good care of us. Desert was great. What we paid was worth the money.
It was okay, the bread was good, and our server was great. but I was shocked by how small the scallops were for the price that we paid. They were so small compared to everything else that was on the plate. Everyone else in my party that didnt have the scallops had huge portions of meat and/or seafood. Dont know if I would go back, which is a shame since I have heard good things about the place.
Friends and I had dinner at Dons Lighthouse Grille last evening. Once we were seated, we were greeted by Jackie, who said she was training and that she and Laurie would be helping us. Jackie was personable, engaging and very efficient...she actually made the entire dining experience quite pleasurable and fun. She is a great addition to the staff. As always, the food was excellent. Im looking forward to my next visit there and will certainly request Jackie as my server.
Dons Lighthouse Grill was a top-notch experience: great cocktails and food, efficient and friendly service. Tonight, I enjoyed some of my standard: burger technologies- surf and turf sliders (2 crabcake burgers sliders, and 2 hamburger sliders, served with fried onions). My entree was an angus steak burger with fries. My drink was a Jack Daniels and Coke and a coffee. The server was friendly: she got the orders correct and quickly for me and my party.
Usually when paying a lot of money for a meal, one would expect the food to be very good to exceptional. Well, most everything was. But avoid their fillet mignon. We sent it back for them to try again, and the second try did not pass either. But their seafood was exceptional. The calamari was too die for. They had very good service, and they did not charge my meal... Even gave me an eclair to go. So, this is why I give them a 5 star.
I was really excited to finally try this place out. I read reviews previously and was expecting the best customer service. However I was disappointed by our waitress, who made me feel very uncomfortable during my time there. I felt like she was criticizing everything I do, and her condescending attitude ruined my night. Though I will say there was another worker who was very friendly and made me feel better, though I didn’t get his name.
Table and atmosphere was good. Waitress was mildly annoyed it seemed, even as we were just sitting down. Never brought bread and forgot a drink order. Food was good, but we were pretty sure there was a mixed drink made with the wrong alcohol. We would probably go back for dinner to try again.
The food was good no doubt about that, the reason why Im giving two stars is for a few things. One, you definitely need to train your cooks to measure their steaks and meat more accurately, give them a scale for Gods sake. How in hell did I ordered to-go the Steak Oscar which specifically said 10 oz on the menu, I even told the guy on the phone to make sure it is 10 oz. When I got there and looked at it, I had doubts about it being 10 oz, I thought that maybe the thickness would make up for it. When I got home I pulled out my scale, weighted it, and to my surprise it was only 5.6 oz, thats almost half the size you say on the menu. I know some is lost during cooking but come on, half of steak?? Two, the crab that was supposed to be on the steak was not crab, crab doesnt have pin bones, it was some type of fish. Three, my wife ordered Steak and Lobster, we asked medium well for both dinners. Mine was definitely well done, slightly hard. Hers was the opposite, medium rare, still bloody. Still good flavors.Four, the online menu prices need to be updated or dont just over charge whatever you want. My dinner said 34 and hers said 55, you charged 36 and 59, i dont know what was the reason behind that. Was it because we paid with a 100$ ClevelandIndependents card and you wanted the ticket to come out to a total of 95$ so you could charge the whole 100$ dollars and then give me a piece of paper with a 5$ in-restaurant credit? If not, then thats false advertisement. 5 dollars lost because I dont plan on coming back and going to be warning the people that plan on dining here.
The bartender told us they were sold out of steak and lobster, but recommended $4.50 mussels as a substitution. Hardly comparable. She seemed very overwhelmed with the 8 customers that were seated at the bar. We ordered a crab cake, a burger and mussels. The crab cake was delicious, the burger was okay and the mussels tasted like broth. While we waited for our food we had a clear view of the kitchen and watched the person prepping plates eating off of guests plates, dipping some stuff in a sauce even, licking her fingers, continuously wiping her nose and coughing, then touching food and plates before they were delivered to tables. Lastly, as we were eating and paying our tab, we watched several dishes of steak and lobster coming out of the kitchen to be served. I thought they had sold out. Sadly before this we had frequented here quite a bit.
Normally this place is great. But tonight we did not have a good experience here. Im unsure if our waiter was new or what the deal was. I asked for a straw 4 times. I asked 4 a1 sauce 3 times and was still never served. My husband ordered a medium steak an was served a dark, well well done steak very dry. My sweet potatoes were so cold it felt like they had just came out of a fridge. My lobster was GREAT. we gave ourselves a hour and a half to eat because we had a appointment after dinner at a go kart track so we did not send the steak back. Just asked for a Togo box and left because it took over a hour to get lobster and a supposed to be medium steak. They were not busy as our waiter only had two other small tables. Our waiter was very forgetful and didnt check on us as normal waiters do there. Our waiter really ruined our dinner tonight. I hope the lighthouse gives her ALOT more training.
We had a wonderful lunch of soup and salad. I had the New England Clam Chowder and a bistro salad with pine nuts... excellent! My wife had the French onion soup and a Caesar salad, again delicious. I would highly recommend Dons Lighthouse Grille to anyone traveling in the Cleveland metro area.
Two stars for fast service and nice happy hour prices. The problem is that the drinks were terrible. This was a lemon and pineapple martini. First off the lemon shouldve been muddled with some simple syrup. Next I ordered the Midoritini. It looked like an apple martini so the mental consumption was off. I suggest adding a drop of triple sec and a melon ball instead of a cherry.
We didnt have a good experience here, because waitress was rushing us from the moment we sat down. Bar is not good, and food is not something unique or different than other restaurant. Meat was over mature, with an acid ending taste in mouth. The building is beautiful, and the location fantastic.
My friend just had to have one of there crab cakes. It was my first time there. While dining an elderly lady began to choke. My friend got up and gave CPR to her and saved her life. We continued to dine but I was grossed😷 out. The lady began to choke again, and again, my sweet friend got up and saved her life agian. No one from the restaurant gave aide either time. The family left and told us they would put our drinks on their tab. The Lite House never did take the drinks off my friends tab. I called the restaurant the next day and the manager said he never heard of the situation but he would send a gift card. The gift card never came even though I contacted corporate several times after that and was told it was in the mail. I feel like potential diners should be aware of how they treat their customers. Also, the lack of training in first aide and CPR is alarming. The workers were actually running and hiding behind the wall, they NEVER even called 911. Beware that if you choke at Dons Lite House you will die if another diner is not medically trained and willing to save your life. Dine at your own risk!😷 Second review they sent the certificate after my review for my friend ONLY for $30. Obviously, our dining experience didnt matter! Shame on you Mr. Sternquist. The table did buy her drink but they still charged her card so they got paid twice SMH
We went here for the first time today for our 32 anniversary. It was Thursday, and they have 10 dollars off the Lobster and Filet so thats what we both got. My wife had onion soup and I got the crab cake for appetizers. She had a glass of wine and I had a bourbon drink. The bill was just under 150.The waitress really took her time with getting our order, not in a bad way. We ordered our drinks and she got our bread. We ordered our apps, got them and then when we finished she took our next request, we skipped the salads and ordered our meals. The pace was really relaxing and we were not in a hurry so it was nice.Portion sizes were perfect for us, maybe a little small for big eaters but not for us.Lets just say this was one of the best meals we have had. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The crab cake was one of the best Ive ever had, yes MD you have some competition here in the CLE.They also gave us a custard filled eclair for desert for our anniversary. All in all a very great meal and evening. We cannot thank them enough.
Yesterday I had a 6 guest reservation in celebration of my birthday on the reservation I also stated that it was my birthday. The waiter took awhile to continuously check on me and my guest also after dinner it was no recognition of my birthday none at all not even a Happy Birthday and I clearly had money pinned on me. Just thought that was a bit inconsiderate when I chose to celebrate my special day at they establishment.
I celebrated a few special occasions at Dons. While I wish they didnt serve certain seafood that must be cooked alive, the other food is good. its reliable. Its not phenomenal, its good and you always know what youre going to get. Its classy and has a dated-vibe that adds to the allure of dining here.
The server seemed annoyed that she had the wait on us. She didnt take the time to speak with us, saw her eating and chatting with other server while our drinks were empty and she had not asked for another. Went over everything very fast and didnt offer any suggestions. also observed so many health food safety (grabbing bread with hands to serve, eating while working, blowing nose and cook drinking over the ice bin. will never be back. it was our anniversary and I really wish it was a better dining experience. 200$ and was horrible!
Excellent service and even better food! Norm was our waiter. Very attentive and kind. We started off with the calamari and shrimp cocktail. For dinner we chose Portuguese seafood stew, Nantucket Lightship scallops, and swordfish with asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes. Dessert followed, which was a chocolate mousse (that my kids inhaled before I even had a chance) and an apple pie that was unbelievably YUMMY! (I do not like apple pie!) This restaurant will not disappoint!
I took my wife here for Valentines Day. The service was exceptional. My wife had the scallops and she loved it. I had the Delmonico steak, it was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is very nice and it is a quiet dining experience. We also felt very comfortable with their social distancing practices.
Good luck getting them to answer the phone.Online says call to make bigger reservation. I’ve been trying to get in touch with them for 2 days and I’m being sent to voice mail or the phone just rings. I’ve been calling since they opened to close. I’ll just go elsewhere, how disappointing.
Im not sure if the man (Kraig S.)that waited on us was pregeutus or over worked but during me picking up my to go order he did seem to want to help me, putting the card I used to pay on a table feet across from me instead of handing it to me. For the food looks good, but small portions in my opinion
Update: stopped in for (lunch) today and there is a MAJOR gap in quality between lunch and dinner. Lunch was gross. Ordered the calamari - some were raw on the plate. Got their mushroom and Swiss cheeseburger. I expected this to be a burst of flavor but was let down. The meat tasted like there wasnt any seasoning at all. The blue cheese dressing had a sour taste and the mushrooms, which I expected to be a mouth full of flavor, were rubber, no flavor and gross. I cant believe I paid over $30 for this meal. After their dinner service I expected to get a fantastic lunch. Downgraded to 3 stars.Fantastic! (Dinner) Had their stske with blue cheese. What a treat. Perfectly cooked med rare. Ill be back for more.
I treated my son to a late lunch and was extremely pleased with the food and service! He had the bacon blue burger and I cant begin to tell you how awesome, delicious!! The blue cheese was another level of sheer delight! I had the fish and shrimp beer battered w/fries let me tell you I wanted to run back in the kitchen and hug the chef!! Lol! Just light and beautifully cooked! Our waitress was just wonderful and pleasant, great service!!!!! The stuffed mushrooms were the best Ive ever had! Cant wait to return for other plates of heaven! Made my day! Thanks to everyone there! 10 stars!
Too few or no selections for people with varied diets (low carb, vegetarian, vegan). Service was exceptionally slow, drinks took way too long and despite the place being very slow, our server was rarely in sight. Our first round of drinks were consumed and we sat with empty glasses for quite some time before we were offered another round. There was no music and the atmosphere was boring, at best. My salad arrived with the equivalent amount of fried onions topping it as would have been served as an appetizer portion for a table of 6 to share. On it, I was served slightly spoiled meat and when mentioned to our somewhat negligent server, she was insincere and barely apologetic. Management never visited the table to apologize or check on us. In fact, most of our meals were eaten before we ever saw our server again. We were given $5 off our meal which seemed woefully inadequate for being served spoiled meat. Would probably not visit again.
Food was not as good as usual however what will make me come back is the EXCELLENT customer service! Mary is the absolute epitome of first class service! I also have to add the personal and comfortable conversation and natural at ease flowing courses and banter. Thank you miss Mary! Will be back to see you soon 💋
Choose to participate in the restaurant week carry out offer due to concerns about COVID. We got the lobster and steak. Everything was packed efficiently and was easy to plate. Everyone enjoyed their meals and it helped us to celebrate a milestone birthday. It felt festive to enjoy a special meal. Don’s Lighthouse did not disappoint and we are grateful!
Every year my husband and I come here to celebrate our anniversary dinner. We just got done with dinner for year 3, and service/ food was excellent as always. I usually get the scallops but decided to get the rainbow trout, and it did not disappoint. Great atmosphere also. Look forward to coming here for many years to come.
Food was really terrific. Valet parking was swift and convenient. Really enjoyed the walleye, and the wine selection was extensive. Great for a special date night or any upscale affair. Pricey, but not outrageous for the quality of food, service, and atmosphere. Would recommend especially for the older crowd- they have some great, traditional dining if youre not into adventurous eating, though they have some of that as well.
It was OK. I had the steak and lobster. Steak was perfect, lobster on the rubbery side. The butter for the lobster was movie theater fake butter for popcorn, not happy. I had a crab cake for Appetizer and it had very little crab and may possibly been frozen. Really was expecting better quality.
5 Star Dining. Upscale And Perfect For Family Occasions, Anniversaries, Or If You Want To Impress. Perfect For Entertaining Clients. Located off of Lake Avenue, Cleveland ! Just Right Outside Downtown Makes This Great Restaurant Perfect Location! Highly Recommended! Now that they have fully reopened I went with my Girlfriend the other night and was very impressed at how well the service was as Amazing as Always. GREAT FOOD AND GREAT SERVICE!!!!
The food was pretty great, but the rude staff made it an uneasy dining experience. We were made to feel unwelcomed the moment we walked in. Waiter came off completely irritated by our presence and wasnt pleased with how we had our plates and glassware set up, as he rearranged multiple times to fit his liking. Not to mention, while we were in the middle of eating and came close to knocking wine over a few times as well. Huffing and puffing the whole time like we were such an inconvenience. Its a shame because their food was outstanding and well presented, but will not be going back due to the treatment received by their staff.
The service and the food were wonderful. We could not ask for a better meal in Cleveland then we had at Dons. It was luck of the draw. I saw them on Open table, and we liked their menu. Headed over there a bit later than our usual time for dinner, we had just driven in from Cincinnati. It was perfect. Next time in Cleveland, we will stop back in for another meal
Really nice dinner out to celebrate a birthday. We had the lobster bisque and French onion soup, both of which were delicious. For mains, we had scallops and filet and scampi and again were not disappointed. And the bread... It comes out steaming and was really light with a nice crust. Finally, since we were celebrating a birthday, they brought us a giant chocolate eclair, which was a fun treat. My only complaint is I had noted our birthday celebration in the reservation and still had to tell our server once there.
Very good! Interesting menu with lots of yummy choices. I had the steak and asparagus, which was excellent. My companions ordered scallops and fish, and were very pleased as well. Crab cakes for starter was unique and delicious. Deserts... cheese cake, chocolate mousse and creme brulee were our indulgences and worth every calorie! Unique location and building. Bathroom in the basement was odd, but not a barrier for us.
The food was great and the I love the dining room set up. Our waiter was quick to take our orders and checked on us to see how we were doing. Overall, everyone was nice, professional, and courteous. The only complaint I have is that the food was too greasy. My greens were oily and so were my potatoes. This made my stomach upset.
I visited with friends and family. Its a little crowded. The host was a bit gruff. The view out the window was beautiful. It overlooks a park and Lake Erie.I ordered the filet and lobster. It was perfect both were tender and tasty and looked great!.The bill is a bit steep most days, but we happened upon a discount day. $10 off the filet and lobster.... I remember it was $35 instead of $45.Servers were fast, attentive, helpful, courteous, and pleasant. The servers were well choreographed. The ambiance was warm, class is, and comfortable. You really should come with a tie (males) or a dress (females).
The food was decent, but the service was awful. We had a large group and our waitress was very short with everyone. When the bill came she hand wrote her own tip on to every receipt. She wouldve came out better, by allowing us to tip. I wouldnt return. Ive never experienced anything like that.
First of all, we called to ask about the dress code, the gentleman who answered said, after I asked, that it would be okay for my husband to wear shorts, BUT, it would depend on how his legs looked! We knew at this point we would definitely enjoy this place!Patty, our waitress, told us about the Thursday night surf n turf special - $10 off, and we were hooked! The food was cooked to perfection, even though I do not eat lobster (my husband ate mine) and said NO BUTTER NEEDED!We will definitely return on our next visit to Cleveland!
I’ve been going to Don’s for years. Even celebrated my 18th birthday here. However my most recent experience was disappointing. This past Sunday August 23, 2020 was my first dine out experience since February. When I go out to eat I don’t want to hear the manager nag the staff. I heard her chirp her name enough times to know it was Lisa. From nagging our server as to why there was a stray serving tray where it shouldn’t be to nagging the bus boy as to why the bartender didn’t clear the bar. You would think being Don’s Lighthouse the manager would be more professional and handle internal issues privately.
The best! Love the location, across from Edgewater Park. Easy park close to door. The steaks, seafood are fresh, well prepared and served with a smile. So worth it. My scallops were perfect. The wine matched well. Our server was tops. Great suggestions, on top of any needs we had. The desserts are incredible. Have a special night or just want to treat yourself? Go, relax, enjoy!
Food was incredible. Waiter was not. Our group thinks he needed a some basics of how to take care of a large group - was the venue short on wine lists? We couldnt keep one. We were ready for our orders - his be right back took one of us to hunt him down 10 minutes later.
Love, LoVe, love! Fresh food! Beautiful environment☺ Great customer service. Nice white wine selection. Freshly baked bread. Lobster tail was very good, was kinda small. Had to order 2. Mussels come with broth, was great! 😋Had multiple foods from the menu, never had a complaint. Steak, salads, stuffed mushrooms, Escargot, Crab legs, Chicken and much more.. Clean, Quite, and friendly atmosphere!❤
I very rarely give three-star ratings, but Dons Lighthouse was a very three-star experience. My sister and I dined on a Saturday night and we came right around 5pm when they opened. We had reservations and were greeted by a very frantic and clearly irritated host that was responsible for answering the phone and greeting guests at the same time. I felt badly for him, but he did a poor job covering his frustration. The atmosphere was interesting (not sure what the theme is) and the booth we sat in was rather comfortable. Our waitress was friendly, but service was slow. She was very accommodating with several requests we had (we wanted to split a meal, we wanted to substitute a side dish, etc). It, however, took quite some time in between each dish. The food was good, but not great. Ive definitely had better seafood at other Cleveland-area restaurants. For the price, my expectations were a little higher. What really put a damper on our experience was that we had already been there for an hour and a half and when we were ready to leave, the card machine was down so they could not print any receipts. I get these type of things happen, but 20 minutes had passed before we had received a receipt, making our dining experience at Dons close to two hours. I was expecting a small percentage knocked off the bill for the excessive wait--but nothing. To make matters worse, my sister and I split the bill with cash and card. The tip and more than half the bill was paid in cash and then the remainder was charged to card. We were very clear we only wanted $49 charged to the credit card. A few days later, my sister noticed the restaurant charged the entire meal to her card! Last I heard, my sister is still trying to work with the restaurant to get her card properly credited.
Lori was great. A group of us had travelled from Columbus to Cleveland for a day business trip. We were treated to lunch by our host. Excellent food, excellent service. We had a very nice/quiet reserved section in the back. I chose the seafood chowder (recommended) and Erie Perch. Our group enjoyed the atmosphere and company.Cleveland restaurants have character; and Don’s Lighthouse was no exception. The doorman greeted us and we were seated right away. In-&-out in 45 minutes. Impressive service and efficiency lead to an enjoyable lunch experience for a party of 10. We will be back!
Went to Don’s for my boyfriends birthday. This just so happened to be Valentine’s Day weekend. I called the day before to make the reservation & the gentleman that answered was very accommodating. He told me that I would get a booth in the bar, however when we arrived we were seated in the dinning room. We were pleasantly surprised. Our waitress was a little bit older, we didn’t mind that. I’m not sure if it was because she was a older or because we were in a nice resturant, but her service was very slow. We were there for almost three hours! Needless to say, the food was absolutely phenomenal. We enjoyed some wine. The Boomtown Pinot Grigio was delicious. The crab cake & middleneck clams were amazing as well. Highly recommend the Steak Oscar!
I dont know why I waste my time and money on these old icons. Cold, lack luster strip steak served with pre frozen tater tots! Not to mention.... As I walk in, the host is hovered over on his cell phone for about 4 seconds with zero acknowledgement before I just find my group on my own. Weak effort. With so many other choices, they probably wont be around too much longer. Unfortunate experience.
My son was home on leave just before another deployment, but wasn’t going to be home on mother’s day, so my family wanted to take me out on Friday. We actually just settled in from our experience there. The staff was SO FRIENDLY AND COURTEOUS!! The food was excellent and servings were generous. We had absolutely no complaints and my husband always complains, LOL.The manager or owner ( not sure) came over to our table to thank my son for his service and ask if we were happy with everything thus far. He made a very kind gesture that we later found out didn’t happen, but it’s ok his heart was in a kind place , and we didn’t expect it anyway. We will return. That was nearly $400 well spent. Thank you for a great early mother’s day and send off for my son. Oh yeah, before we left the server had very nice things to say to us, can’t remember his name, but he was a gem.
I wish I could give it 0 stars. Last week, my co-workers and I went there to celebrate a fellow co-workers retirement & she has never been there before. One of my co-workers asked a waitress if we were able to get a table instead of a booth due to we were still waiting on more people to come. The waitress sat us down near the back on one of the high top tables. We were given water and put our drink order in. As we were waiting, both my co-workers had stepped out and I was sitting there waiting for our drinks to come, when the General Manager abruptly came up to me with nastiest attitude and started DEMANDING that my co-workers and I move to a booth because the table we were at was reserved and he accused us of sitting ourselves down. I informed him that that was not the case. The other two high top tables behind us had a reservation sign on it and ours did not and I let him know that it was a waitress that sat us down not ourselves. He then walked away as I tried to talk to him. My other co-workers came back and sat down. I let them know what had happen and as I was telling them, the General Manager came back with the same unprofesstional attitude and threw a $25 certificate at the table and as we were trying to talk to him, he turned away again and left. We have been there multiple times and we enjoyed going there, but the fact that we got treated this way is completely unacceptable. The waitress was so nice and more then apologetic to us, but it wasnt her fault at all, it was the General Managers. He needs to be reprimanded and taught manners.
Excellent mussels! The broth was flavorful. In addition the bread was fresh and soft w a whipped thyme butter. 4 dozen mussels on Sunday on night special was $11! The service was also excellent. Despite having a small order we left a large tip because the servers work hard and are actually experienced professionals which added to the experience.
Been coming here since I moved up to Cleveland in 2017 and I can honestly say I have never ONCE had a bad experience here. The food is good, the service is good, fellow patrons are polite. I have no issues with this place and I highly recommend it to anyone in the Lakewood/Edgewater/Cleveland area.
Remember when this place was classy? stopped by tonight for a birthday steak and lobster. Had the escargots. Just a greasy mess! Server in the weeds, not her fault. she was great! Lobster tasted like nothing!! my steak was very under cooked. No i did not want to wait any longer to for you to cook my steak right. Its sad. Kept asking for bread. It was never like this. Im home and still hungry.
I expect better from a higher end resturant. The food is ok. I had the halibut with coconut rice and asparagus. The fish was grilled, unfortunately overcooked and on the dry side. The rice and asparagus were nicely done. Our waitress was short in patience and a bit on the rude side. There was a sign for mens dress code while dining, but there no dress code for women, who wore plastic short shorts and jeans with t-shirts. So Im not sure what kind of establishment this is, as I took my parents for a nice meal. The main dining was nice, we sat in the back which felt claustrophobic. I will continue my search for a resturant which gives delicious food, with proper service and a beautiful atmosphere.
Me and my fiancé celebrated a early Valentine’s Day last night at don’s lighthouse and as far as fine dining experiences go it rates among one of the best. The calamari was an excellent starter and we took advantage of the special and had lobster tail and fillet mignon the food was delicious the service was excellent and this was our first time there we will be returning
The place is very pretty and inviting. We ordered the dons sampler appetizer and it was very good. We then order the lobster bisque which I felt tasted like it was freezer burnt. Our main meal then came which was the filet and scampi. The filet was supposed to be cooked medium but came out rare and the outside was burnt. Unfortunately we couldnt eat it. The shrimp was so so. The mashed potatoes were good though. They took it off our bill which was appreciated. The service was pretty average. Might try it again but not my first choice.
If youre looking for a great place to go for amazing Happy Hour specials, this is it. Delicious, high quality foods at half off cant be beat. Love the muscles, bruschetta and crab cakes - at prices that cant be beat. Dinners here are great, too. Still, this is a go-to place to meet up with friends, share fantastic foods and leave with plenty in my wallet.
Dons seems like it lost its quality. We got the seafood stew like we have had in the past. It lacked the spice and had very little broth in which to dip the crusty bread. Also, there were no claims in my wifes stew. Probably will not go there again since we drive there from Strongsville. We expected better quality but we were told that on Thursday the chef was not on the premisise , maybe that is why the quality was not there. Very disappointing since we have enjoyed going there for years.
Took some ladies to brunch for Mothers Day and we were all disappointed with the food selection. There was not much at all to choose from. No bread of any kind and only served us water. Coffee or orange juice was not even in the brunch price of $31.00. Very skimpy meal. The desserts were bite size cakes and pies. We will never go there again. The only thing that was good was the attentive and excellent service.
We went there to celebrate my mothers 82nd birthday and from the time we sat down until we left, it was upsetting the way our waitress treated us. She introduced herself when she finally got to our table. She never smiled, looked annoyed when we had questions, served the food never asked if it was ok. My mother called her back to the table for a ques and she called her sir. She looks NOTHING like a sir. She asked her ques and told the waitress it was her birthday, she said nothing back to my mom. I must have observed 3-4 waiters/waitresses lighting candles on desserts and going to those tables, WITH smiles. I asked the waitress, out of earshot if my mother gets a dessert for her birthday a d she mumbled yes. 2 of us at the table got dessert, 1 to go and a coffee. She plopped a box down in front of my mom and said theres your dessert. My mom tried to tell her she didnt ask for dessert and I had to explain it was for her birthday. The dinners were very good, but Caroline, I dont know if you didnt care for us, do not like your job, were having a bad day, or WHAT it was but YOU DO NOT treat customers that way!! I saw and heard you with the table behind me and you acted alot friendlier. I was SO angry when we left I wanted to speak to the manager, but did not want to make my moms bday evening worse. You need to rethink your job.
Lots to like, lots that wasnt great. The menu is straight fish-and/or-meat and veggies, though the cuts are expensive: lobster, crab, filet mignon, and the like. Nothing much to tempt the curious. My experience last night in a party of seven was mixed. My filet and scampi featured slightly overcooked shrimp, delicious mashed taters, bland asparagus (at least one of which had the taste and texture of a #2 pencil), and two medallions of beef that were billed as rare but in fact had gotten no closer to the grill than a couple of feet. One of my companions got braised short ribs that had actually been vulcanized. Both dishes got sent back and were comped--the wait staff were on the ball to make it right and management was supportive. Many of my other companions ordered a mahi mahi special that they all said was excellent. Good wine selection and decent cocktails. For dessert we were offered free crême brulée, which tasted slightly of scrambled eggs. The restaurant has an old school atmosphere with dim lighting and tight spaces, though its a pretty big place. I have to wonder if the preparations would have been more consistent on a less crowded evening.
I chose Dons Lighthouse Grille for my husband and I to go to lunch in order to celebrate my birthday. I have been to Dons over the years and liked it.This afternoons lunch was very disappointing. My husband has a gluten allergy (celiac disease) and I quickly noticed the lack of gluten free items on the menu. After a few questions for the server he learned that he couldnt get the French onion soup ( minus crouton) because the beef base contained a wheat-based thickener. Really? They must buy the base from a food supplier instead of making their own. The French fries were made in the same oil fryer that gluten items were made, etc.He ordered a quinoa bowl which was really bland, tasteless. He used a lot of hot sauce and some salt to spice it up.I ordered the cod and shrimp fry. The menu said it was breaded. It was actually dipped in a tempura batter which Im not fond of and would have ordered something else if the menu more accurately described the dish. All in all a disappointing birthday lunch.

2022-04-19Went to Dons for Easter brunch as it was the first date location of my friends parents many decades ago. The parents arrived on time, my friend and I were about 30 minutes late but they seated our group immediately the staff was very nice and never made us feel bad for being late. The food was outstanding. The waitress was on top of a new soda before I had to ask for a refill, everyone was very happy with the full experience. One of the best spots Ive been to in Cleveland so far.

2022-04-15A friend took me to Don’s Lighthouse the other day, for a relaxing evening to catch up on life and things. This was my first visit and will definitely not be my last. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed, a great Bar space for ‘hanging out’. Between the scallop/mussel plate and my own fresh fish dinner, plus two finger drinks (measured vertically, not horizontally), this evening is well worth repeating. I can only highly recommend the good food and friendly service.

2022-07-01Danny was a good server, a little rough around the technical edges but overall a great person.Food was top notch! I could eat all day here, no problem. Everything we ordered from drinks to apps to entrées came out in good time and presentation, and most of all it was extremely pleasing to eat.Cool building, right on the corner of Lake and Clifton. Steps away from edgewater Park and the beautiful skyline of Cleveland.

2022-03-14This was my first time at this restaurant and i used to pass it all the time and the other day i finally decided to come in and dine. you can tell it’s been there for a while because the decor looks…i’ll think of a word later but you can tell the people who are regulars. the bar area is very spacious and the bar by itself is big enough as well. happy hour prices are great! i had mussels and i wasn’t a bug fan of them. i personally felt like they were missing something and i didn’t like all that lemon either. i had the steak oscar as my entree and i can truly say that was delicious. my steak was cooke perfectly, the mashed potatoes were good, and the broccolini was good as well. i do wish they would pair the meals w/ different side dishes. i had a lemon drop and it tasted just like a lemon head, it was right on the mark. i don’t know if i’ll be back, but everyone should try this restaurant!

2021-10-12A little tricky getting in the lot with the road construction right now, so just be aware of that. FYI, If youve never been there, they are literally on the corner of the intersection. Beautiful place. Friendly server. Was a little disappointed we had to ask for bread, but it was good and worth asking for it. Food all very good, but my lack of a 5th star came from this... if you are going to use websites like Open Table to book reservations for your restaurant then you should definitely update the menu items they ate telling people. The item I specifically went in for apparently has not been on the menu since early 2020. Again, the food we did order was good with very beautiful presentation. We will return again.

2022-05-17We have been here several times and I am never disappointed. Patty our server was awesome! My wife and I had Walleye with pretzel encrusted sauce. Our other guests had salmon and chicken and every plate was clean at the end of the meal! Succotash with green beans and corn was awesome! Spinach was perfect and the cheesecake for desert topped off a perfect evening by Lake Erie!

2022-03-06I have been going to Dons restaurants for over 35 years. Service is usually spot on. I picked up scallops and mussels for lunch on Thursday and had dinner with a friend last night. Yesterday was the worst service experience of any restaurant I have ever visited. The server was rude from the start & not very friendly. His table service was also lacking. He gave the kitchen the incorrect order. When they brought my meal out again it was a totally different plate and steak altogether. Literally, it was not my original order. Rather than comment, I ate a little then had it packaged to go. I asked for a bag. He never gave it to me. I had to ask another server for a bag. Nevertheless, I will always dine at Dons. I love it there. Next time I will specifically ask not to have that particular server.
