I wish I could rate them a -0/10 like give me my deposit back. Rental agreement was 5/3/21-5/6/21 in San Juan, Puerto Rico and I called 2 weeks later looking for my refund and was told it can take up to 30 days. Today is the 30th day and none of the numbers are working. I called the main line and they gave me a number that wasn’t on the rental agreement because each individual franchise has their own rules and only uses the company name and logo which that number is a non working number. What in the entire devil is going on with this company?!? They scheming people out of money and can’t get it back or get in touch with anyone. PLEASE READ THESE REVIEWS OF NEGATIVITY BECAUSE THEY ARE FACTUALLY AND I WISH I LISTENED BECAUSE THIS IS BLASPHEMY!!!
Reservation- the act of reserving something or the arrangement to have something held for ones use. Unfortunately this rental agency does not grasp the concept of a reservation. Reserved my car rental months in advance. Called the day prior of reservation to confirm that they would have my car ready and reserved at the time of pick up and was guaranteed since we had already paid and reserved our vehicle that it would be ready, right? Wrong. Landed in ATL at 9 pm and was informed that there are no more car rentals available regardless if you had a reservation or not and that they were closing down and not speaking to any more customers about any rentals for the night. Left me and my family stranded in ATL airport with no way to get to my hotel hours away from the airport. This company is a scammer! Takes your money for your reservation then takes the same cars that are reserved and gives them to other people who also payed for the same car! They also said they would get back to me if a refund is possible within the next 7-10 days. Would give this rental car agency a 0/10 if that was an option but unfortunately the lowest rating option is one star. Never again!
Upon return of my rental I was checked in with no problem. After receiving my final receipt 2 days later I realized they charged me a $400 cleaning fee when I asked as to why they said for smoking!!! I do not smoke ANYTHING drugs or tabacco nor have I ever! When I asked what I can do or what they can do to double check if they put that on wrong customer and they said there was nothing that could be done about it. I even offered to take a drug and tabacco test which all were declined. I’m trying to refrain from calling my bank and disputing the entire thing but I will not be paying that
Its was decent. I have full coverage with my own car and they still tried to scare me into 30 dollar a day insurance even though my policy covers me. But I got a decent car and got out of there fast.Edit; I just want to respond to the owner- we are pleased with our rental and everything is fine, we love the car.
Customer service was rude from the moment I arrived to the counter. Then when i inquired about a 400 dollar charge added to my bill they said it was a smoking charge and transferred me to 3 voicemails after telling me that they take pictures but no one could provide the pics. Ill never rent with them again. Not worth the money at all!
I had a pleasant experience renting from Dollar at the Cleveland airport. The staff was friendly and helpful and my transition to renting a car was very easy. The only thing that I did not like is that they tried to push insurance on you despite me having my own coverage. For the rate and price I had a great experience.
Awesome!! The car rental went very smoothly, even in Cleveland! I hate having to take a bus to and from the rental area, moving luggage each time. I will absolutely use you again, great rates, beautiful clean car, super easy to return, very professional people at each encounter! Ive rented with Dollar Rental at the Cleveland Hopkins Airport for the last 5 years and NEVER had any issues until April 18, 2018. When I rent with Dollar Rental I either use my credit card or a debit card. Well on April 18, 2018 I decided to use my debit card instead of my credit card. It was a black man at the counter, he asked for my ID, my payment method and proof a my return flight. I give him all 3 items he asked for. A few minutes later he says Ms. Singleton, Im sorry but you do not qualify to rent a car with a credit score of 680 because Dollar Rental only rent to those who have a 700 and above credit score. I LAUGHED and said oh I can get financed to buy a house, a car or get a personal loan with that score but I cant rent a vehicle for 3 days with that credit score? Then I said Ive rented with you guys for years at this same location for years with no problems. He says I apologize but we cant rent you a vehicle BUT we can rent you a vehicle if you use your credit card. Again I LAUGHED and said thats OK Ill take my 680 credit score, my credit card and debit card to another car rental company. I HAPPILY picked up my belongings and went to Budget Car Rental which is right next to Dollar Rental and got me a rental with my 680 credit score. Dollar Rental has definitely lost a loyal customer!
I dont know why the low rating. Everything went smooth here. Only thing preventing a 5th star is their car selection. Pretty much all Chevy, and i had the choice of 5 different colors of Chevy Malibu. Overall, i cant complain though. Keep up the good work dollar/thrifty.

If I could leave zero stars I would this place is an absolute scam! My rental car got stolen and dollar rent a car charge my card over $1000.00 not explaining why or sending me any information as to why my card was charged no one was able to help me or resolve the issue ! They keep saying I need to call roadside assistance! Roadside assistance for what when I did not rent the car from roadside assistance. I REPEAT THIS PLACE IS A SCAM ! Someone needs to respond to me soon or I’m taking you guys to small claims court !
Ty and John were very helpful and upbeat. I wasn’t upsold or harangued into any extras. I got to choose the car I wanted. Great car and price. When I returned the car, Patrick drove me to the airport for my flight. No waiting for a shuttle making several stops - door to gate service. Would recommend and will use again.
They used to be great, but something happened. No one smiles. The current employees seem surly most of the time. Its actually getting worse. This time, they charged me a deposit on a car, when, according to their written policy they shouldnt have. Im truly thinking about switching to Enterprise.
Poor customer service, lost my military ID in their car and they would not go and check for me. They Said they will find it when the car is cleaned. Finally, two day later they emailed to tell me they had it, by then I reported it lost and drove 2hrs to get a replacement .
Overall poor local and corporate services. Did not have the car promised me would not provide something better. Additional they have a poor customer focused attitude at the desk. The corporate line based in the Philippines was unable to provide any support whatsoever and hung up several times when attempting to escalating for a solution. I would recommend elsewhere even if slightly more expensive.
I have rented a car for two days from Dollar car rentals in Cleveland. I was searching for full size car with best price around. And Dollar rentals is the place where I found my car at best price. No other companies were giving me at that price. When I went to pickup my car they didnt have full size car available so they have upgraded for free and gave me one of their premium car i.e. Chavy Impala. I was very happy with their service. Car was very clean and smelling good too.
I’m 24 so i rented knowing that I’d have to pay an underage fee. My reservation said my price would be $188. Got there and they charged my credit card $500. When i asked why, they told me it was due to the underage fee (27 per day for 4 days, so $108). Obviously not happy with that, i asked them to look over it to tell me how they reached that number. At first they told me they could only knock it down $60, so i said I’d be better off ubering for the weekend. That’s when they decided to take my total down to $204 magically. Upon returning today, they told me they were unsure how they were able to rework that price so instead charged me $320. None of it was consistent with the “underage fee” so i know they were totally screwing with me. Don’t waste your time or money here. Never again for me.
They clearly state when picking up the vehicle that you cannot drop it off before noon or there will be an early drop off fee. They also state that if you drop it off the following day there will be a late fee. I was charged a $20 late fee for returning the vehicle after noon on the day it was due back. So youre charging for an early drop off before noon and a late fee after noon? That would mean I have to return the vehicle at noon on the dot in order to not be charged.Seems like a shady money making scheme to me. Called to complain and was told that they do not have to disclose this to you in person. Thats funny because the paperwork doesnt mention anything either. Please avoid. Use a reputable company with clearly stated charges. Shame on you Dollar Rental!
It wont let me put negative stars, or even 0 stars, so that is the reason they get 1 lol. There are plenty of other rental car companies that actually service their customers--stick with them. Any other time Ive had any sort of issue with a rental car, the other rental companies did whatever they could to fix the problem as quickly as possible no ifs ands or butts about it. Driving home on a holiday we somehow managed to drive over a nail. Their customer service people are only available during regular business hours. We had to use a can of fix a flat and drive across the country worried to death with a whole car full of kids. This caused us to not get home on time, and to turn the rental in a day late. The nail was not Dollars fault (as far as I know lol), but the experience was so horrible that I was already pretty sure Id never use them again. Dropped the car off and the lady inspected the vehicle and DIDNT EVEN NOTICE THE NAIL STICKING OUT OF THE SIDE OF THE TIRE. Being the person I am, and worrying about the next person who came to rent the car and what they might go through, I stopped the lady, and told her about the nail. She then proceeded to call someone and ask them what to do, and then told me Id have to pay a hundred bucks for the tire. I probably could have gotten over this, as I was the one who chose not to get the extra insurances they offered, etc. But even though she didnt see the nail, she was really quick to see that I had forgotten to fill up the gas. She then suggested that I drive the car, with the nail in the tire, back out to the gas station to fill it up cheaper. She evidently didnt realize that driving across the country with it with all my children in it, was traumatizing enough. I just kind of laughed and shook my head and signed everything she wanted me to sign so they could nickel and dime me as much as possible and let me go on my way. Then, as I proceeded to leave the rental place, in the middle of the night, my own car decided to die on me. The car had been in the shop before we went on vacation, and not driven for a while, and we didnt know yet that they had failed to fix it. So for the second time in two weeks, I was stranded and trying to have my car towed. I went back inside to ask the lady if my car could stay there until the morning, to avoid waiting outside in the middle of the night with a baby. The lady informed me that there was nothing she could do, and that if I left my car there it would be towed in two hours. There was no call she could make, no person to talk to, and absolutely nothing that could be done to just leave my car there until the morning. Im confident that no other person on earth with even 4 minutes of customer service experience would have responded and acted this way. We found a security guard that actually cared, but that didnt keep the baby and I from being stranded outside while the car was being towed and waiting for a ride. If I had used enterprise they would have picked me up and my car would never have been there in the first place, and they would have even gotten me home safely and none of this would have been an issue. I probably could have gotten over the tire, but then I realized this is just their normal customer service, or lack there of. I only started using Dollar recently when I travel, because I was able to get united miles doing it. Never again.
I was disappointed with my recent rental experience. The quote given over the phone was different than when I picked up vehicle. I had the oil light come on the vehicle after for only 12 hours and the brakes were to the floor. I was inconvenienced by having to drive back and exchange this car for another vehicle. The customer service was lousy and the girl at check-in was rude and stated that the vehicle was a 2016, with low mileage an that these issues could not have happened. She tried to grill myself and my husband about this car. I called Dollar customer service to make a complaint and held over 20 minutes, when i did get through, i was transferred 4 times and when i was told they could help me while my rental was still open. I was furious. I wouldnt not recommend Dollar. I was not satisfied. :(
Dollar was terrific. The car was terrific. Returning it was not. I know its not within Dollars ability to change, but finding the car return was like a treasure hunt. No -- more like Lets Make a Deal -- you had to guess between door #1, door #2, and door #3. And if you guessed wrong, you lose big (you could wind up in Toledo) (and miss your flight). Fortunately I drove very slow and was lucky. Once I got back to the lot returning it was a breeze.
Extremely pleasant experience from start to finish! Took advantage of a Cyber Monday coupon and got a great rate on a vehicle for our stay in Cleveland. We were greeted at check in by a very nice lady, Audrey, who was wonderful in her assistance and did not attempt to upsell us on all the additional packages. The car was in fine shape, and the best part of the rental was the transportation of our family and luggage to the terminal in the rental car. Terrell plesantly greeted us early in the morning and after giving me our receipt, he drove us over to the passenger drop off. What a nice thing to do, excellent customer service all around. Would recommend Dollar to any traveler needing a good car rental experience in Cleveland.
Horrible communication between employees!!!!! I was provided the wrong information 4 different times with these people today. After making a reservation 3 days prior, only to be told at the counter when i was there to pick the rental up that it would be extra fees requiring a extra $400 being added to the bill... Im just astonished at how unprofessional these peoole are. Oh and to top of it all not ONLY did they ruin my holiday but they also told me that there was ABSOLUTELY nothing they could do to resolve the problem... Even though it couldve been avoided if their employees knew their policies.... Its just sad what customer service has turned into. Shame on you all !
Terrible Company!!!! Dont waste your money. I made reservations paid on line. When I arrived from my flight the lady asked for my contract, license, flight number and insurance. I gave her everything and she told me they dont accept debit card only credit card. When I paid with my debit. She didnt give me a car. Go to another company dont waste your time with Dollar rental.
Its always been pleasant renting from dollar up till lately. Ive been charged for smoking in car and Im not even a smoker. I had a rental and wasnt comfortable driving that Particular car not that they was anything wrong with car I just wasnt comfortable driving it. Lady on phone when I called to extend my rental said I could switch it out. So I took it to Cleveland Hopkins airport where I rent and Ive never been so Humiliated and treated so rudely in my life . Even customer returning car behind me brought to my attention the 2 ladys in the lot was making fun of me and rolling their eyes . He couldnt believe how unprofessional they was acting. Since that moment they charged 400 for cleaning cause of smoke and I dont smoke. I always take back my rental cleaner then what I receive it. Couple rental after that I returned and after I pulled in lot and had remembered I forgot to fill tank up. I had only took 10 steps out of car and asked lady if I could go fill it up before she checked it in. She is with customer two cars ahead of me and says no I checked it in already. Which was a lie cause she hadnt even been to my car yet and was with customer 2 cars ahead of me. So now Im being charged for not filling car up. I spend alot of money with dollar renting cars and dont know why these 2 women try to make it so hard on me to continue renting from dollar.
My wife reserved the minivan in advance but the confirmation email got lost. They dug in the history and found the conformation number. They let me tour the lot until I found the right minivan to carry my family and I to New York and back to Cleveland and for that I am grateful. Thank you much Dollar Rental....
Awful place they took money from my moms account & refused to rent the car to her. Took prepaid payment & said it was the fault of my moms for not knowing a bank debit could not be used. My 65 year old mom is on fixed income. Mark in online sales refused to put a manager on the phone. Thirsty Booked late & scheduled pick up early. Then charged a late cancellation fee!!?!? Awful
We reserved a car from dollar rental car on line, came in to Cleveland. Guess what? No cars available. The next day we had to get taxi from hotel to dollar car rental. We spoke to a very sour older lady (Audrey) she talked down to me, didnt have a car again, we called corporate she called the police when I questioned why I didnt have a car. After we talked to corporate, guess what? A car magically appeared. Wow, no customer service skills, and liying. Thanks Audrey at Cleveland dollar rental car. I only got car from them because it was a holiday weekend and there were no other places with cars. Never again, Nene dollar General. Audrey, Jesus loves you. I hope you change.
We got in at Cleveland airport 10:30pm 11/24/16 and dollar rental didnt have a car for us. We had to take shuttle to hotel. We came back the next morning and the person at the counter named Audry was very rude nasty and looked like she either was racist or hates life. And she told us to go find somebody else. Nice job dollar rental, at this rate you guys will be bankrupt soon. No customer service skills.
DONT RENT FROM DOLLAR IN FLORIDA!!!! I just received a bill for $50 for unpaid tolls. Apparently there are unmarked toll roads in FLA and I had $5. worth of tolls unpaid and the rest ($45) was fees from Dollar!In addition, once at the Tampa airport, I had to wait in line to get my car for over 45 minutes because the counter was severely understaffed (These people in line ALL had reservations so DRC KNEW to expect them.) and the manager was totally indifferent to the complaints of nearly every customer.
Freely takes your money yet expects you to read the ToS. All of it. I have to wait an additional 2 more hours to get the car because it hasnt been 24 hours since i made my reservation. Yet they took my money knowing the arbitrary time. Wasnt allowed. Nothing like flying all morning to wait 2 more hours.
I reserved a car at Dollar through Travelocity at a really reduced rate. I was actually charged double what I thought I had to pay, but I didnt realize the problem until after I left the car rental place. I figured no problem; I would show them my Travelocity printout when I returned the car, and the problem would be fixed. They claimed that I signed up for some expensive insurance. I absolutely did not. I think they are running a scam whereby they overcharge you, and if you dont notice, they make a tidy sum, and if you do notice, they apologize. I would be careful renting from them if I were you (I wont be back).
Lady at the counter on Friday, April 26th, around 5pm was very rude, disrespectful, and very unprofessional. And how do you run out of cars?! Ill know better the next time! Dont rent from Dollar or Thrifty, seeing the lady said that these two companies are together. And both without vehicles.
Well for one, they have a 250 max deposit for debit card holders, which was fine, because Alamo screwed up my credit card balance and I was forced to use Thrifty. That being said, the car could have been much cleaner, they charged me an extra $25 dollar fee for returning it early 10 minutes. Yes, 10 MINUTES!!! Oh and that $250 deposit? It takes 5 days to post back to your account. Soo bad all the way around. By far the worst rental experience I have ever had.
HORRIBLE FROM START TO FINISH...Rude customer service and pushy sales tactics. Vehicle was unsafe on the rode, wobbled at highway speeds, check engine light came on. Was unable to contact anyone to help replace vehicle, as every customer service rep. was not able to handle this issue, a manager was not even able to help? So stuck driving home with this unreliable unsafe vehicle. As I dropped it off no one there was able to assist with my issues. DO NOT RENT FROM DOLLAR...I never had a single issue with Enterprise...First time with Dollar and definitely my last.
Worst customer service ever. I was delayed in Tampa Florida and when I finally made it to my destination I walked up to dollar rent which I had already reserved previous to all the delays and was told there was no car for me. I was then badgered by the customer service rep and told it was my fault I was late, although Delta was delayed for 5 hours. I then asked to speak to management as the rep kept getting ruder and ruder to me telling me there was nothing they could do and that I better start walking. Once the manager came in she proceeded to act worst then the customer service rep before her. She went as far as to let him stand there smirking at me and out right laughing when I explained what was going on. I asked if this was normal customer service training. Wow, just woww. Custo.er service at this company is non existent. Learning that sometimes the cheapest really is not worth it. Will be taking all of my future travel expenses to the competitors.
Don,t rent from them or they may seal your DollarHere is a long review of a company who don,t care of their costumers just care about taking your DOLLAR.I went online to make a reservation last month and made a reservation but when i went to pick the vehicle the lady at the desk on Cleveland Airport was on her personal phone, When i showed my debit card she said I Needed a major credit card and wont accept any other type of payment without a plane ticket. I explained that i never received a Debit card policy statement from the website and she said she couldt help so she was going to cancel my reservations without giving any other options of payment or nothing.I left. When i got my bank statement this month I saw my card was docked 200 Dollars from the company I decided to call today. When I called I was on hold for 30 Minutes just to be told by Angela (Thats the name she gave me) to call other number because it was a third party who took my money online. I call the third party company Car Trawler and after being on hold for another 40 Minutes the guy who answered J.R. very rudely said they wont give me the money back, I asked to speak to a supervisor (after I argued with him for 30 minutes) but he declined so I hung up and called Dollar costumer care again. Another 25 minutes later on hold, I spoke to Marie (maybe the same girl with another fake name) and then she said I needed to call the Prepaid Department at another number. After anther 20 minutes on hold I got to speak with Annabelle at Car Trawler (The same company I called 2 hours before) now she said it was my fault because I shouldve gone with a Credit Card or plane ticket to pick the car. I explain her again I,m not flying out or in so there was no need to have a ticket and to transfer my to a supervisor where she declined. now I,m already upset and told her I demanded to speak to a supervisor, she put me on hold for another 45 Minutes before I got to speak to Cheenee The Supervisor I was already furious before she even started to talk and repeat the same script the others said (Terms and conditions, use a credit card bla, bla bla,) I told her that DOLLAR CAR RENTAL and CAR TRAWLER stole my money and I would give a complain and now I am asking you not to use this company unless you want your DOLLARS to be stolen as well.
Worst rental experience I have had by far. The counter staff was rude and dismissive. The car was not well taken care of at all, with torn upholstry, and interior features that were damaged or broken. I then had an issue with their toll pass that I had added to my rental to avoid long, holiday weekend toll booth lines. According to the EZ pass attendant, the pass was not paid up. The customer service was simply terrible. I got nothing but the runaround, and was never put in touch with anybody who could do anything about the situation I got the feeling they didnt want to remedy the issue, they just wanted me to give up. Well Dollar, I give up. I will take my business elsewhere from now on.
Never rent a car at dollar rental, I have rented car in online and within less than 5 minutes I have cancelled the reservation as I got call from my car dealer that my car is ready for pickup. Dollar rental charged me $55 as cancellation fee as because the pickup time less than 48 hrs, this is ridiculous and moreover the customer service is the utmost bad experience that I ever had. I would never recommend to book Dollar rental car, atleast in their website rather if you are so particular and you believe that you are getting for cheaper price I would prefer you to go to some 3rd party site like priceline or hotwire and book it , because their customer service is far good and easy process of refunding incase of such situations. I really got fed up with Dollar customer service and rental process in their website. I would never rent it here again.
I was charged for insurance i wasnt aware of that the agent put on my rentel and then was charged 600. When i asked about it i was told that because i turned in the car before asking to remove it i cant get a credit and was refused to speak to a supervisor. If i didnt know abiut the charge how could i have asked about it.
Ridiculous administrative fee attached to any tolls you incur. Not brought up when car picked up, just in fine print on contract. Even though the toll booths DID NOT OFFER THE OPTION TO PAY TOLL, YOU CHARGED ME OVER $60 IN ADMINISTRATIVE FEES. I will never rent from you again. Beware....

2022-06-15I’m only giving it 1 star because I can’t go zero stars. What a horrible experience, from a cut rate rental car company…..had paid and reserved my rental car 2 months in advance Fly from Houston to Cleveland Jon Hopkins only to find out I didn’t pass their credit check. Paid for everything up front except taxes. Would recommend absolutely anybody but this place and believe me anybody besides here you’re winning. Will never give this company another red cent of mine ever again in this lifetime

2022-02-16I have been standing in line for over 25mins and I have watched the two customer service reps help a total of two customers. Total, not each employee. Meanwhile I’ve watched Budget and Enterprise clear their lines of half a dozen people in the same amount of time. I wouldn’t use this company if it wasn’t work related. Unfortunately I have no choice. Choose a better company.

2022-02-13Seronda was the best CS agent. I wanna thank her for being so AWESOME!! She help me charge my phone and gave me water for my new puppy and just supported me through my crazy day in Cleveland. This team hands down had the best energy in the entire rental car hub. Thank you Seronda I really appreciate your kindness. Crazy part about it all is I didn’t even rent a car from here because they were out of cars. I rented from budget. But she still help me out and had the best energy and caring heart ❤️

2022-03-10Dont rent from here honestly. Worst customer service when I returned the car. They never showed me how to use certain things on the car. When I called customer service they were rude and disrespectful. I would go to Avis or enterprise if ever renting from this airport.

2022-05-17Reserved a car for 7 days..$1000.00, later it took more than an hour to actually get our car. Youd think they would have the car available when reserved 3 weeks in advance. Took time away from our vacation and thank god we didnt have a tight schedule that day. Awful service, the agent said 15 minutes..and over an hour later...was rude and said it will be ready when its ready.

2021-08-31BEWARE! Rude people that dont have any proper knowledge of what theyre doing. Complete lack of customer service or any sort of people skills. The hidden fees are outrageous. They rope you in with the lowest rates and then change contracts as soon as you leave the lot. The 1-800 customer service line was an absolute joke. I wouldnt send my worst enemy to rent a car from Dollar, Hertz or Thrifty. All 3 are under the same ownership BEWARE!

2021-06-24This review is more about this particular location instead of Dollar as a whole. Everytime I enter Cleveland, Ohio my experiences with literally everything becomes worse. So I have to take a shuttle to the giant rental car center, just to then be told that here I have to pay $500 deposit to use my debit card, which Ive never had to do before and I travel and rent cars from once to several times a year. Im then told its 20 minutes to get my car here.... even though Im standing in a giant building with a huge lot of cars... So its now been 35 minutes of waiting for my car after I spoke to the cashier. This is absolutely ridiculous and is totally how Ohio treats its guests and their residents they treat worse. Im glad I no longer live in this area. This location needs to get their act together and maybe learn how to keep cars ready to be rented... you know since they are a rental company.

2021-09-10Absolutely horrendous, overcharged us for the insurance and automatically added it even though it wasnt part of our rental agreement. We reserved the car two weeks before we got there and after checking in with the front desk we waited over an hour for the car. What the hell is the point of a reservation if they dont have a car for you at the time of the reservation!?!?!

2021-11-23Expect to pay a lot more than you signed up for. In my case it was $150.00 more. I received zero help from customer service after many, many phone calls.
