Dollar Car Rental in other cities:
I picked up my rental car on a Tuesday morning because my self, my daughter, my friend and her niece was traveling to Witchita KS. My daughter starts to search the car and in the sunglasses holder she finds a smoked, rolled piece of weed (joint) and says “look mommy it’s a cigarette”. I was already not pleased because the vehicle smelled like smoke when we got it. So now I was really upset. I sent an email and not not gotten a response yet. I called the customer service before we left the state to inform them of this and let them know that this could has possibly put myself and the passengers in a dangerous situation and possible jail time. But I was told there was nothing that could be done until I brought the car back. They offered to switch out the vehicle with another one but I am not sure how that would fix anything. I do appreciate the young lady working the desk this Friday morning when I rented the rental that seemed like she was the only one who cared about the customers safety and this issue. She took a day off my rental; no, it doesn’t fix things but it let me know she does care about her customers. So, if you are renting a car from Dollar Car Rental at the Dayton Airport please check your vehicle thoroughly before leaving because you never know what you might find in your rental that you put you in a dangerous situation.
Im adding this review to balance out some of the super negative ones. Is this the most fantastic rental car company ever? Of course not. But Ive rented from here several times and the cars were good (and very affordable) the staff was generally nice (although the night staff was slow and less friendly). If saving money is important to you and you are willing to jump through a couple of hoops to do it, this location is a good option.
The first car they tried to give me was so dirty you couldnt see out the windows and when I asked for something cleaner I was treated like Id asked the employee for her first born child. The second car was only marginally better and had sticky tape residue on the doors and trunk. When I returned the car at 6:30am Dollar was the only car rental agency that was unmanned and the only key drop is at there counter at the far end of the terminal. Anybody but Dollar.
DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. I called the number that was on the website only to find out later that they are a third party. The lady I spoke with on the phone made my reservation with my debit card, told me that I needed to pay the remaining balance when I get to the counter. I tried to use my debit card like I HAVE DONE IN THE PAST and the lady at the desk informed me that I could not use my debit card. So I say.. okay just give me a refund so I can use that money to rent from somewhere else. She says that she cant because they werent the company that charged me. Are you kidding me???? What a joke of a company! So I call the company that charged me and they say that they would probably not give me a refund because its in the terms and conditions (about not using a debit card). Im like.. I did it over the phone, how can I look at terms and conditions while I am talking to someone on the phone? She says..Did you say that the person took your credit card information over the phone? I said yes. She says that they arent supposed to do transactions over the phone. I ask for a refund and she said that there has to be an investigation and it would take 10-20 days!! Beyond p1$$3d right now.
The best thing about Dollar was that they were cheap. The line to get my rental car took forever though, as the girl at the counter kept apologizing to the line that her co-worker disappeared over 40 minutes ago to use the restroom and never returned, and she was working as fast as she could - and this was a prime, weekend pick-up time. Besides that, when I finally got to the counter she was friendly. The company did lie though saying that the gas tank on the car you would be picking up would be full and they mentioned the only time it wouldnt be full was when their pumping station there was broken, which she assured it was not broken at the time. I was given the car with just over half the tank of gas. I decided to just eat the cost in gas rather than going back in to wait in that horrendous line again - so I begrudgingly filled the gas tank full, although I used less than 1/2 a tank of gas myself. At least it was a quick process to drop the car off, and they shuttled me over to the airport.
Arrived on a Saturday afternoon. Had reserved a mid-sized sedan for about a week. Shuttle driver to rental location was unhelpful as I struggled with loading three large bags on the bus. He literally sat in the drivers seat and watched me as I drug them aboard. I was the only one waiting on the shuttle. He watched as I pitched them off of the bus when we arrived at the rental location as well.Once inside, there was one person working both the thrifty and dollar counter. One person outside. Long line and about a 45 minute wait. Finally was assigned a car which turned out to be a high (41,000) milage car with a funky smell. Car was extremely hard to start when cold in the mornings, and the wipers were useless. Also had a pretty bad vibration above 50mph.I ended up cutting my trip short and returned on Thursday. Had a better shuttle driver on the way back to the airport.I will not rent from Dollar at this location again.
I paid for the car up front with my debit card, which was paid for more than 2 weeks in advance. When I got to the counter, I gave them the card I used and they now wanted another $200 and wouldnt take my card. I have now sat at the airport for 3 hours trying to figure out what to do. The one good thing is, after talking with the bookers, I will get a full refund. They told me it wasnt my fault. I wont be using these people ever again!!
Had a 4:30 pm reservation for Christmas Day 2015. When I arrived I was told that they had 6 paid reservations and only 2 cars and that they could not rent to me. There was no apology or offer to help help me rent from another company, nothing! Just blew me off. Will never rent from them again.
Hassle getting the car (first one smelled like smoke and BO, so I made them change it out). When I finally got on the road it made some weird noises. When I turned it in, random fees showed up later about crossing tolls that were false, and still charged me “because it’s in the contract.” One said I’d been in Florida, which obviously I wasn’t. The other said I was in Kentucky. Utterly dishonest, low quality company. Will not use Dollar or specifically this Dollar again.
Its not news that car rental places, in general are kind of terrible if you arent a member of some preferred access club that gets to skip the line. They are usually understaffed (by people who probably dont really want to be doing that for work, and it shows) and exceptionally slow because of it. This Dollar location is no exception. The day I was there, they had one guy staffing the counter managing returns, pickups and customer complaints. He was doing as good of a job as he could, but it really shouldnt take 20 minutes to return a car, now should it.Also, be warned, that unlike a few of the other major brands, the Dollar/Thriifty location is not actually at the airport and youll need to take a shuttle to get to/from. Plan ahead for this and leave yourself plenty of time for a shuttle that may not come for quite some time.
The only reason I am giving them one star is because the car was clean and the garage workers were polite. Christie (a lady at the desk) told my wife something that just was completely not true. When speaking with the manager about it,the manager (whos name I cant remeber) lady was totally disrespectful. After making christie goto the back so she wouldnt be involved in the conversation, She told me my wife was lying and her employee never told my wife what she did. She said she was sitting there when the conversation took place. After a back and forth for a second I proved my point when I told my wife to screen shot where Hertz had called my wife back. Christie originally denied this ever had happened. Needless to say I was over charged and treated totally disrespectful from the ladies behind the desk. I was told I would be put on a do not rent list for Hertz in dayton and the surrounding area. I had rented from Alamo multiple times at the Dayton Airport and will everytime from here on out. BEWARE!! DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ!!
I rented a car from here about a week ago, and had a very good experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, and were able to get me on my way in about 10 mins. I booked ahead, so that may help. Also, there will be a local taxes fee (even if you dont get the extra insurance, etc.) And you will need a credit card to pay for those fees. As long as you keep that in mind, you should be ok.
So this place its in the air port and if you dont have a return ticket you can only rent a vehicle with a credit card a debit card will not be accepted. And be sure to get there early the little cheap cars that dollar is know for go quick if you take to long and get the last vehicles they have its usually small or regular size SUV. WHICH ARE LIKE $60 a day.
Paid for a mid size suv and gave me a compact suv. The explanation I got was sir they dont have a mid size suv at this location even though I reserved it 10 weeks prior. Would not even give me my money back for the difference in the price. I will not use this company again. I did a follow up with the response I got from the owner that wanted me to contact them and still have not heard back from them after 2 emails that I sent, and calling and leaving a message with no response
I wish I didnt have to leave 1 star. This place is HORRIBLE. I just spent 2 hours on the phone dealing with the WORST customer service representatives I have ever experienced in my life. All of them had the worst disposition upon answering the phone. I hadnt even given my rental agreement number before I felt unwelcomed. I was transferred 8 different times to departments that could not answer my SIMPLE question...how much would be charged to my card since I returned it a day early? (One of the departments I was switched to was a completely different company.) This question stemmed from me dropping the car off and NO ONE was there to receive the rental PRIOR to the time they were scheduled to close. I was later told that this was a member of management who closed the kiosk early. I understand that emergencies happen but it would have been appopriate to at least have left a sign instead of having guests waiting for someone to come assist. Luckily, a member of another kiosk informed me that the person Id been waiting on for 20 minutes had left 30 minutes prior and would not be returning.Bottom line...this company is TERRIBLE. I will do all that I can to warn everyone I know about this company and their incompetence.
Terrible place. Had a reservation but still had to wait almost an hour to get our car. We finally get our car and it had more dings and dents on it than you could imagine. So then after having to go in and have them write down all that was wrong with the car we thought we were on our way, no. I started to drive away and looked at the gas gage and it was on 3/4 when the paper said it was full. Had to wait another 15 minutes for them to fill it up. Rent from somewhere else if you have a choice. I have rented many cars in my years, but this was the worst experience I have ever had and felt worse for the people that had just arrived since the line just kept on getting longer.
DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION!!!Dealing with an erroneous damage claim upon return.Nobody ever inspected the car before or after and theyre trying to charge me $200... I returned the car in the exact condition it was received in.Tried calling multiple times with the phone just ringing out finally a woman answered, told me she couldnt provide me with more information because my claim was over a week old... Are you kidding me?!?! After I became insistent that she provide me with more information, she hung up the phone on me. I dont understand how the people who receive the cars and report them damaged dont have any further information to provide. Actually, now shes hung up on me twice. They must recruit from the DMV.DO NOT RENT FROM HEREIf you absolutely insist on saving just a few dollars, take lots of pictures of your vehicle when you pick it up and drop it off. Make sure to report any damage you find, no matter how slight.
This is the only place I rent from in Dayton. Ive never had any issues, and in fact, many times I was able to get a free upgrade. The last time I rented from them I booked a Focus and was upgraded to a Mustang convertible. W00T! Im actually going to rent from them later today due to a recent auto accident I was involved 2 weeks ago.
I finally arrived in Dayton at midnight only to learn that they are the only car rental that closes at 10:30 pm. What a joke! People only fly during the day you know. I even had reservations. Do yourself a favor and use one of the other places down the hall from them.
Do Yourself a favor and never rent from these peope. There prices may be cheap but so is their services, with all kinds of extra fees. desk service was perfect, they are just limited to what they can help. and if you try talking to technical support,.. these guys are nothing but scams
Rented a car while my father was in hospice. Needed to extend for a week. First told us 21.99 then found out the fees came to $36.00 a day. Then gave us other prices raising it each time. Lied to us while we are in the middle of a very stress full situation. Would not recommend this company to my enemies
THEY ADDED A TOLL CHARGE TO MY BILL FOR A $12 A DAY TOLL PASS THAT I NEVER ACCEPTED AND THEY NEVER SHOWED ME AT THE TIME I PICKED UP THE CAR. THEY HAD A BARRIER UP AT THE COUNTER FOR COVID AND THE GUY AT THE COUNTER HAD ME SIGNELECTRONICALLY WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE AGREEMENT AFTER I REJECTED ALL THE EXTRAS THAT THEY WERE TRYING TO SELL. NOW THEY WONT TAKE IT OFF BECAUSE I AGREED TO IT I WILL NOT BE DOING BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY AGAIN. IVE RENTED FROM THE SAME AIRPORT TO DO THE SAME TRIP FOR YEARS AND TOLLS ALWAYS COME IN AT $6 FOR THE WHOLE TRIP . WHY WOULD I WANT A $12 A DAY PASS.
The worst car rental company in Ohio, the vehicle I reserved smelled like smoke and body odor, the gas gauge read 3/4 full, when I returned immediately to get a refund, an empty pop can rolled out from under the passenger seat, total waste of my time, couldnt care less attitude from employees, take my advice, rent with anyone but them.

2021-01-11I rented a car which I’ve done multiple times before from this place and it’s always something. The last time I rented, the car was not cleaned and before I returned it I washed it & vacuumed it out. The return went through no problem, then I get an alert on my account a day later that I was charged a $350 cleaning fee. So I call and they tell me it was a smoking fee which I don’t smoke plus I had pictures of the car before I moved off the lot. They put me on the do not rent list because I asked them to show me the proof that i smoked in their vehicle. I offered to show them medical proof that my asthma is so bad that being around smoke will trigger an attack. Needless to say, nothing was done about it & I was just out $350

2016-08-13A long wait for no apparent reason, followed by pressure to purchase a bunch of add-ons, even though it was all done on-line prior to my arrival. They asked for my personal credit card, even though my company paid in advance, with the company card. I relented only after being promised that no charges or holds would be placed, and that it was only a precautionary measure. The car I rented was dirty, and had an 1/8 of a tank of gas, even though they promised it would be filled. I reported this to the attendant who wrote a note on my paperwork and told me to just return it with the same amount of gas. I then vacuumed the car, and filled it up, because I am on a business trip and didnt want to seem unprofessional. I drove less than 60 miles, turned the car in with more than 3/4 of a tank, and two days later my card was charged $95 for the rental. I now have to wait until Monday to call and dispute the double charge, because my company also paid and now I am forced to pay. If you go online and look at the reviews there are thousands of similar stories. How is this legal? How is this company still in business? Dont rent from these people!!!

2021-06-01Wish I could give negative rating to this rental services, it’s the worst on the market. When you rent with any other rental services like hertz they will give you a full price you are going to pay when making online reservations. but Dollar rentals will not show the hidden fees until you pick up the car and their customer service is even worse. They say they understand the issue but will not do anything for the customer. Do yourself a favor and book it with someone else. It’s not worth it.

2018-01-07Please please do yourself a favor and don’t rent with this company. The staff at the airport are least concerned about your business. The make you feel unwelcome. The vehicle quality is disappointing. And most importantly, the hidden charges are ridiculous. ( 9.99 surcharge on every gallon of unfilled gas, $15 administrative fee for every toll you pass through)I recently rented with them and wrongly got billed $340 instead of $200. When I called up the customer care, the person there was very rude. He straight up got into an argument with me over a confusion on his part. I later had to escalate it to his supervisor who was reasonable enough to resolve the issue.Low prices are a trap guys. Please go to a reputed company like enterprise who actually care about heir customers and don’t rob you blind.

2018-11-21Do yourself a favor and do not book your business with Dollar. Youre better off sticking with Budget or other known name companies. Youre not saving any money with Dollar. I was turned away at the desk without even being checked because the credit/debit card I paid for the reservation was immediately turned down. They will not issue a refund without an investigation. Ive read over the terms and conditions which also states you can use a credit/debit card but are subjected to a deposit that will be returned once you return the car. I was well aware that it could be upwards of $350 dollars and was okay with it knowing I had plenty of cash to cover in my account. This is the only car rental company that immediately denied service without even checking the card, reservation numbers. They basically stole my reservation charges and I have no rental car!

2020-06-04Worst customer service I have ever received. Absolute nightmare. Waited for over 4hrs then still didn’t receive a car because they wouldn’t allow me to pay using the chip on my card, only via swipe. My card swipe is over used and no longer reads but all these people care about is “company policy”. Never going back. Also made a reservation, cancelled and am still waiting on my refund. Beware they will try to scam you out of money. If you have to rent from them I suggest recording everything on your phone.

2015-11-22NO NOT EVER RENT FROM DOLLAR RENT A CAR. I went in to rent a car to find that they wanted an additional $200 which would have brought the total to over $400 for a deposit on my credit card, not debit card. I immediately canceled the reservation with a worker at the Dayton National Airport. She then instructed me that she could not put the credit back on my account because it has to be done in the main office. I immediately went down to AVIS where I was immediately given a car without a huge deposit. I then called several times to be transferred just as many times to still not receive my credit. It is now November 22, 2015 and months later I have still not received my deposit back. I am working with my credit card company to dispute the charge. I have come to realize that the company target customers who may not have a credit card and are forced to accept unacceptable customer service and large deposit fees. Whatever you do DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. My next step is the Better Business Bureau. NOT ACCEPTABLE

2014-08-10My Daughter rented a car for her vacation. She is a college student and had saved for months to take this trip. She reserved with her debit card and nothing was mentioned that she would need someone with more established credit. She has worked two jobs all through school and has always paid her bills so not sure but whatever. My 90 year old step Dad dropped her off, this is when they tell her she does not have enough established credit to rent the car and someone else would have to do it. My Dad did this however it cost her an additional $150 as he had to be added as an additional driver even though everyone was clear he would not ride in the car, let alone drive. They also offered an upgrade to compensate for their lack of catching the credit problem. The car made terrible noises and the cruise control was broken, car was also filthy and she had to wash windshield herself before leaving parking lot. She returned the car as agreed upon, at the exact time. Four days later the security department called threatening my Dad saying she never returned the car and they were calling the Police. Wow. That is some great customer service.

2015-10-29Advertised low price not worth the hassle and low quality. I guess it was a bad sign when I picked up my car and the girl picking up a car next to me asked is your car dirty too? I looked at the interior and it was clean, after driving in the sunlight from the parking garage I realized the exterior of the car was filthy. It appeared something had been smeared on the front/passenger side window. I didnt feel like turning around. Mind you the car did its job, it got me around just fine. When I returned the car, the tablet was down and they would email me a receipt. Well they never did, so I called 5 days later to get a final receipt. So far Ive have been asked to call another number(s) and then forwarded to 4 different people. None of whom have been able to help me. I feel like they just forwarded me to make me another persons problem. So I have lost an hour out of my day and still dont have a receipt and still a pending charge with deposit on my cc. Fortunately I didnt lose any time writing this because i have been on hold for awhile now.Have a great day, go next door to enterprise, hertz or where ever (not thrifty) and save yourself some hassle.

2015-12-22We received a fantastic rate from a 3rd party site which technically doesnt matter because they honored the price. We had the car longer than expexted and it took three calls to their main line to verify the price that was already written into the contract. The person from roadside assistance was the most helpful. When we returned the vehicle they charged us over $50 what they were supposed to. We were still at the desk and asked for an adjustment the attendant said he needed manager approval for a refund over $20. Weve been back to the airport and called multiple times and somehow theres never a manager available. Weve since disputed the charge as fraud and will never rent from them again. I wont include the narrative of how it took returning 3 cars to get an acceptable one to drive. Ridiculous. Ise another company.
