The Columbus Opthamology Associates organization is more than deserving of 10 stars. From the attentive and professional reception staff to the post op medical staff, Dr. McHale and crew has made my cataract surgery experience simply wonderful. The process every step of the way has been designed with the patient in mind. My recommendation to anyone seeking services from COA is to trust them…and ask for Dr. McHale.
Dr. McHale and the staff at COA could not have been better. Dr. McHale was great! He was easy to talk to, answered all my questions, and prepared me for cataract surgery. He made me feel comfortable with the procedure. The surgery center site was also great. They were all so nice, and helpful. I would recommend them highly!
I went to Dr McHale to remove a cataract that had formed after surgery for a torn retina. My vision is now better than after receiving lasik surgery twenty years ago. The care I received from Dr McHale and his staff at Columbus Ophthalmology Associates has been outstanding
Terrible experience. Front reception never greeted me, added additional tests without consulting me as to why, associates stood around chatting and laughing instead of addressing patients in a timely manner. A 2-hour visit was unacceptable when tests only took 45 minutes total including a less than 5 minute visit from doctor.
My recent experience with Columbus Ophthalmology Associates was extremely professional. From my first appointment with Dr. McHale to the post op nurse after my cataract surgery everyone was kind, friendly and very informative. Everyone made sure all my questions were answered and that I was comfortable. They especially took their time to alleviate any fear I may have been feeling. I am so thankful to have found Dr. McHale. I trust him with the care of my eyes.
I highly recommend Dr. James McHale and the Staff at Columbus Ophthalmology Associates. I had cataracts in both eyes, used to wear contacts, and was quite nearsighted. Dr. McHale removed the cataracts in October, installed new lens, and now other then wearing reading glasses, I can see perfectly without contacts. I had worn contacts for 51 years. The procedure for both eyes was painless, and I could see perfect within a day or so. Their website was great, and I would recommend that you go there and watch Dr. McHales videos if you are at all anxious about the procedure. Also, the nurses and the staff at the Mt. Carmel Eye Surgery Center were fantastic, and took great care to make you feel comfortable.
I had cataract surgery 4 years ago on both eyes. At that time Dr McHale replaced my lenses utilizing new ones with the brand name Symphony. This particular type of lens is an upgrade that allows for 20/20 vision no matter what the distance. I am 69 years old currently have not needed reading glasses or any other visual assistance since my surgery. My only issue would be occasionally with low lighting I may have difficulty reading fine-print, other than that my vision is almost perfect.Dr. McHale is a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience in his field. Do not allow his youthful appearance and demeanor to suggest to you otherwise. His staff is highly trained and his office space, which is newly renovated, is state-of-the-art. All in all ,from start to finish, my experience with COA was nothing short of excellent. The procedure itself was painless and quick, I was even able to converse with the doctor and his assistant during the operationIf you are considering cataract surgery in the near future I would highly recommend contacting COA and Dr. McHale for your procedure using the Symphony brand replacement lenses. I promise you will be as highly satisfied as I have been.
My experience has been okay so far. The last doctor I saw was very nice and helped tons with my watery eye issue. However, my review is not on the doctor its on a staff member named Kim. She is rude and will speak over you and not listen to what you have to say. I am more than happy to not speak with her ever again, nothing is more irritating than someone who asks a question and then talks over you.
What a wonderful Ophthalmologist group. This year I had to use the services of several doctors there and all were informative Abe effective with the service provided. With ~30 years with Dr. ORLANDO, it has been very informative as well as excellent service. He’s the best. The staff is always informative and helpful in many areas. They are excellent communicators. This has been a great experience and I expect it to continue. This office has good “roots.” 👏🏼
My husband had his glasses shipped to the broad st office from the office in Dublin because when we called to make an appointment as new patients they scheduled us in Dublin despite specifying the Broad location (we only live down the road) when they called to confirm our appointment the day before and I informed them of the error we were told there was nothing that could be done and we would have to wait weeks for another appointment so we went to Dublin. We were promised that we would be called when his glasses arrived at Broad st because we didnt want to drive to Dublin again, but werent called. My husband finally contacted them and was informed his glasses had been there for some time and when he went to pick them up they werent very nice. This was all last April/May and the main reason I decided to write this review was because after the less than stellar attitude of both offices we went back to my old optometrist who dilated my husbands eyes because he was a new patient for them and they found something rather serious that the Dublin office had missed when they dilated his eyes less than a year before. My prescription was also vastly different than what I was subscribed by this practice and was actually closer to the prescription I was given prior to changing optometrists. I had wondered why I was having trouble focusing and even after I called to verify my contact prescription because I was surprised by the difference I was told it was correct by an irritated individual who had (once again) told me they would return my call once they looked in the chart but never did, I had to call back multiple times. They also dont fax prescriptions, they mail them. We were a bit surprised that the majority of their patients were elderly but now I think its because they only deal well with one area or patient population of optometry well. The only saving grace was the optometrist who missed the issue with my husband and gave me a strange prescription was very nice. But everyone else was rather rude. And the person that assisted my husband with purchasing his first pair of glasses was flippant and failed to take the time to explain some things to him.
I have been going to Dr. McHale for a number of years. Just this past week I had cataract surgery. To be honest - I was very anxious. However, I discovered quickly that it was unnecessary. The process at their surgical center on the east side was VERY smooth and essentially painless. The entire staff exhibited the highest level of professionalism and were focused on making me comfortable and at ease. I too was very pleased with Dr. McHale. All of the visits before surgery was focused on providing me with the best care and the best product for my personal needs. The result is that my vision has not been this good since I was a teenager.
Been working with this group for many years. I had a major accident in 2009 and they were the on call eye doctor at the hospital. Since I was a patient already, they recommended a stop there the next day to get the tests that I needed.Ive worked with multiple members of the staff there, and they are friendly, knowledgeable and meet my needs quickly.
From the moment you step off the elevator you are taken aback by the impressive remodel then greeted by a friendly & professional staff member at the reception desk. My visits to COA have all been very enjoyable experiences. I really appreciate Dr. McHales ability to establish immediate rapport, it encourages you to relax because you know any news you receive will be honest & straight forward. Thank you Dr. McHale & COA staff for your collective effort.
The quality of medical care is excellent. I have full confidence in Dr. Dericks knowledge, expertise, and extensive experience. Dr. Derick also has good patient interaction skills. He listens to me when I talk to him and he takes the time to answer all of my questions. The technicians know their jobs well and are pleasant and helpful.I am frustrated with the system for communicating with Dr. Derick from home. The only form of communication is by telephone and I get put into the technicians mailbox to leave a message. I do not get a return call call until an undetermined number of hours later and sometimes not until the next day. Often I am not home when the message is returned so the technician leaves me a voicemail message. If there is a miscommunication somewhere I can only communicate that with another voicemail message to the technicians and process goes round and round. This can take multiple days or sometimes even a week. The communication process would speed up considerably and be much less frustrating if I could speak to Dr. Dericks secretary or technician directly, who in turn would speak directly to Dr. Derick and call me back directly. That way miscommunication could be resolved much more quickly. It would be even better if I could send e-mail messages to Dr. Derick directly, who would than e-mail me a reply directly or have one of his assistants do it.Since the quality of medical care is the most important feature I am reasonably satisfied.
Outstanding treatment at Columbus Ophthalmology Associates!Dr Orlando is a true expert at replacing the lens in my eyes, Amazing procedure with vivid color improvement, quick healing. 6 stars!!! Entire Staff is attentive and spectacular. Very Happy with the entire experience.
I was here about a year ago, overall experience wasnt great, the doctor was kind of rude and told me that I didnt need to come every year because my prescription wasnt strong enough. The optician was really sweet and made picking out new glasses fun. I called recently to get my prescription information (which wasnt given to me at the time of my exam like is legally required) and was told I could not have it because it was expired. I explained that it is a part of my medical record which I am legally given access to at any time, and got transferred. I left 3 voicemails with 3 different departments and never got a call back.
I made an appointment to get my yearly exam and for contacts. I had my exam and was dilated. Dr Hickey spent about 5 mins with me (after waiting 2 hours to see him) and when my appointment was done, I asked for my contact prescription. I was told I needed to make a separate appointment with a “contact specialist”. Wasn’t told about that at all! I drove an hour to go there and spent 2 hours there to be told I needed a separate appointment. I will never go back here. Now my VSP only covers 1 appointment. So now I have to pay for a new appointment. I could have had the same exam done at LensCrafters and leave with contacts. Terrible.
I’m never disappointed when I visit this office! It’s efficient, courteous and welcoming from start to finish! Their newly remodeled reception area is a bonus too. Of course then there is Dr. Hickey, who not only is a top notch doctor but always makes me smile! What a kind, knowledgeable & witty man he is!
Got lasik here- was super satisfied with my care from Dr.Litzinger- he was excellent and professional and I’d highly recommend. I do agree with many other reviews and the complaints about the office being slow and patients doing a lot of waiting around. Most of my lasik follow up appointments took longer than expected.
I recently underwent cataract surgery by Dr. James McHale of Columbus Opthalmology Assoc. I highly recommend Dr. McHale and the wonderful staff of Cols. Opthalmology for their service, efficiency, timeliness, and friendliness. My experience has been amazing and my eyesight is better than I can ever remember it to be. Dr. McHale explained all the various procedures in detail, answered all my questions, and was confidently reassuring throughout my surgery. Anyone in need of opothalmologic treatment would be well served to visit Columbus Opthalmology.
I am very pleased with my experience at Columbus Ophthalmology Associates. The doctors are top notch and absolute experts in their field. The service is efficient and the staff is very kind and caring. I have always felt that I am in the very best hands at COA and Im proud to recommend them. No matter what you need from LASIK or surgery to routine eye care, COA is five stars all the way.
I am always confident that I am getting the best care at COA. I think Dr. Orlando is such a gifted surgeon and I am so sorry he will be retiring but happy that after saving the sight of thousands in a long career, that he can now enjoy his family and devote time to his art and pleasant pastimes. Good luck and long health, Dr. Orlando!
An excellent place for eye care, the staff and doctors are just great people both friendly and knowable . they have done great for my wife . if I didnt have VA then I would be there too. keep up the great work and did I say that they have great hours of operations making it easy to get in when you want
Will never go back. Second year appt today for new extended wear contacts. I was told that they do not make any contacts for astigmatism that can be worn overnight (even though they sold me some last year but now claim that they told me last year that you cant wear any contacts overnight. Which they did not.) Guess they wanted to sell me something else this year. Checked on line and found that there are several astigmatism extended wear contacts APPROVED by the FDA for overnight wear. Time to find another optometrist.
Avoid! I was referred here for a follow up on a shadow on my optical nerve that I have been tracking for years. My 7:30am appointment is now on its 2nd hr. after already seeing 2 techs and sitting in 3 waiting rooms. The techs want to keep running basic tests that were just completed 2 weeks ago by my referring doctor. Avoid this clinic unless you have nothing better to do than sit around and waste half a day.
I took my 2yr old to see Dr Bloom. He was fine...seemed in a rush but apart from that was ok. the nurse or assistant i saw that day was sweet and caring. the lady who helped us choose a frame was also sweet. the rest of the staff seemed impersonal and kind of racist or so i felt.Fast forward to a few months later, my daughter breaks her glasses and they cant replace it for one reason or another even though we paid about $500 for the frames and lenses and paid for a protective plan. I asked them if they could send me her records for her eye test (so i can take it somewhere cheaper and get some cheaper frames as well). The lady said she would send it in 10mins. I called back about 2 hours later and spoke to a male technician who was rude and said he would send by the end of the day. Its been 2 WEEKS now! Ive called numerous times and had my husband call too. Every time we call and choose the option to get our medical records it takes us to voicemail and no one has called us back even though weve left msgs EVERY TIME weve called. Finally today i chose the option to make a new appointment and got to speak to a girl. I explained the situation to her and she had no answer or helpful information for me. She was completely rude and demeaning because i have an accent even though shes a receptionist and im a dentist....smdh. I ended up arguing with her telling her i need a definite time to call or come there. This girl didnt even ask me my name or my childs name. She started raising her voice at me. I told her that was highly unprofessional and she needs to tone it down before i take a further action. Can you believe this idiot of a receptionist hang up on me! The audacity and impudence! What the hell kind of practice is this?! Do i have to pull teeth out to get records that i paid for! I dont usually write reviews but im soo pissed off i need to let people know not to go to this practice. There are many other practices ive referred others to and no one has ever been treated this way. I would have NEVER gone there except my baby was 2 and needed her eyes checked and that was the soonest appointment i got. I would recommend The Childrens Hospital even if it takes months to get in.Now im sitting here thinking of what to do. My daughter cannot go to school because she cant see very well and keeps bumping into stuff and getting hurt. Im so done with them and i definitely will NOT refer anyone to them in the future. GOOD LUCK if you do decide to go there especially if you are of color or youre international.
I have recently gone through a cataract surgery, I was given was a bill before surgery after running my insurance and I paid it whatever they asked. After few weeks I got multiple bills from same office and anesthesiologists office to pay more. I was shocked and called them to inquire about they told me this is final bill after insurance. If this is final then what was before when they asked me to pay pre surgery??
I had great care for an eye ulcer from Dr. Mulhurn,, would give her high marks. However, I had uncontrollable pain later that night and paged the on call DR and unfortunately got Dr. McHale. Wow. Talk about a lack of care and compassion. He acted extremely put out that I was bothering him (it wasnt midnight, for goodness sakes) and was not helpful. He could have delivered the same message to me (that there was not much to do for the pain) in a much kinder manner. Told me It took you a while to get this ulcer and it will take a while for the pain to get better. As if I brought it on myself. Even if I HAD done something to get it, that is no way to treat someone who is distressed from pain.
Appointment time was given @7:00 AM. The scheduler instructed us to come at 6:45 AM. We also received a reminder to be there by 6:45 AM. 2021-12-10I trust my ongoing eye care to Dr Burns and his staff. He is personable and professional. Easy to book appointments and very little wait when arriving at the office. I think Dr. Burns has a great follow up system, reminding of upcoming appointments via email and texts. What a nice staff! I actually had fun at my last visit to the doctor. That doesnt happen often!

2022-05-24Hey, this is the place to go if you don’t mind sitting in the waiting room an hour or more. The front office registration staff is very efficient, cordial and helpful. The front and back door elevator works well and you get to see who rides up and doesn’t know to turn around to exit on floor 2. You get to hear all the questions asked at the registration desk and while some have to do with medical situations, many are related to paying the bill. You get to watch people getting new glasses in the optical shop and listen to the conversations those employees have with the patients, er clients. Not a very interesting or exciting environment, but the lighting is cool.

2022-06-21Had cataract surgery last year by Dr. McHale. I feel like I had a totally brand new eye put in as I can see things clearly WITHOUT eyeglasses since I was a boy. My peripheral vision returned just as the new lens was attached. The operation went as smoothly as a routine dentist visit. I was totally amazed at how easy the surgery went. I heartily recommend anyone who has cataracts or thinks they may have them to consult COA 👁

2022-04-08After two years Im leaving. Sat for 60 minutes and watched the waiting room turn over 2 or 3 times while i sat there wondering. It was a pressure check that took 10 minutes max with about 3 minutes of the Dr.s time. Quick tip to the staff and Doctors - you are not the most important people in the building - your patients are. Treat them like it. I wont be back and discourage others - find someone else!

2022-06-28The scheduling woman was extremely rude and sarcastic to the point that I just cancelled the appointment. If you have the patience for the self-righteously ignorant, youre welcome to it.

2022-01-26Dr. Kancherla , Dr. Carey, and their team were so incredible to work with! My LASIK was an incredible experience with no pain and incredible results. This team made me feel comfortable with the surgery and recovery. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is considering LASIK!

2021-11-19I had cataract surgery with Dr Derick and PRK with Dr Kancherla. Even though I encountered some complications, I found both doctors to be extremely competent and caring. Every part of the office, from the receptionists to technicians to schedulers (and, especially Jackson) run like a well-oiled machine but still treat you as a valued patient. I now have “super human “ reading ability and better than 20/20 distance vision. I am extremely happy.

2021-07-09Dr. James McHale was great! Very quick and painless! Easier then the lasik eye surgery I had more than 15 years ago. Could see better within 24 hours! I only had to have one eye done for cataract surgery but when it comes time for the other one I will definitely go back! Plus he’s a Buckeye grad!
