So Ive never had Puerto Rican-style food before, and holy hell Ive been missing out! I had a beef empanada and it was so hot and the meat was perfectly cooked! Then I had the chicken dish on loaded fries with this adobo seasoning and I could not stop eating it! The chicken was basically falling apart it was so tender! And that cheese on top! The drinks, all of the staff, and the atmosphere was also super fun and enjoyable! Im so happy this place is close by ^^
Oh my goodness the portions here are huge I ordered the pork shoulder dinner with fries for $9. It was crammed packed of meat. I ordered through doordash and put in special instructions to not have my fries in the same container as my meat but they still kept them in the same container despite me asking them not to. Its not that big of a deal but still, i asked so they should have done what I wanted.I ordered an empanadilla for $3 and it was ok. I wasnt super huge on all the vegetables they put in it but I appreciated the assortment of flavors it had, the bread to it however was delicious. I also got an extra bowl of pork for an additional $4.50. Which was probably about the same amount of meat I got in the meal. That meat was so good and Im glad I ordered extra. The fries were definitely bagged frozen fries that were pulled out and thrown in the fryer. I will definitely be back for the meat it was great flavor and huge portions that is a win-win for me
Dam flat out 5 stars this place . I had the fried pork Mofongo bowl loaded with rice and beans and tostones holy Moses was it good . I can see I’m going here on cheat day ! This is like the old school Puerto Rican cuisine the way they fried they pork it was like very flavorful. The staff super nice , and parking in the front or on the side . Take out only ,and their on the door dash platform. They have a nice variety of meals , and sandwiches to choose from . Bowl was very nicely priced , and quantity was just right . Average entrees around 10 dollars nicely priced.
The service was horrible! I came in with a friend and her daughter. There were 3 of us total. When we were done i ordered a togo. I noticed the server had added gratuity and tax on my togo order. I asked her why she said that on the restaurant part they add it everyone. I now noticed in my bank account that on top of the 20% tip she added another extra $2 to the bill without permission! I remembered my total and i noticed it was more than i signed the paper for !! On the menu it says parties 4 or more they can add 20% gratuity! I dont understand why she did it to our table when we were only 3 and she added it to my togo too!!!
Cle Monfongo used to be my and my husband’s spot! We would go at least once a month. So of course when we saw the newer outdoor seating and beautiful bar inside, we got even more excited…. However, we were sadly disappointed tonight when we got our food. While the empanadas were delicious ans juicy, the plates of food has no presentation and were DRY! Not to mention, we waited almost 50 minutes for 2 plates of food! WHAT?!!? I guess we will be stopping by a little less. 😢
My review is long overdue, but I highly recommend eating here because the food is delicious!! The Roasted Chicken dish along with the side of rice and beans (side of my choice) is always seasoned well! The Empanadilla with beef is very tasty! The portions are a great for the price and I was never disappointed. Do yourself a favor and stop by here to eat!
Went here for the first time today, and there is only one word to describe this place...PHENOMENAL! I was amazed at how much flavor the food has, especially the Rice & Beans! Everything tasted fresh, and you could tell that this Restaurant takes pride in their food. I have had food from other places(Caribe Bake Shop), and this place puts Caribe to shame!!!(I will NEVER go back to Caribe ever again!) I will most definitely be back here, and I will be telling all of my Friends & Family about this place! Not to mention the portions are perfect! I ordered the Roasted Chicken w/Rice & Beans, and the portions filled me up. This place is awesome...If you havent been here, you should most definitely come. Trust me, you wont be disappointed....
It was my first time there and I drove 34 minutes to try it. The service was great and the woman at the counter recommended the Mofongo. The chicken was prepared and seasoned well, but the Mofongo bowl wasn’t. It came with lettuce and dressing although I swear the woman that took the order mentioned rice and beans. By the time I got the food home to eat the restaurant was closed to check on what I should have received. I am sure this is a great place with great food based on the reviews, so I am not saying you shouldn’t visit, I am just didn’t experience greatness. I might give it another shot, but I am not driving 33 minutes specifically for it, I would need to be in the neighborhood.
Rice is always dry when I come here. Fat and skin is cut off of the chicharones never seen that in my life. When calling up to the restaurant to explain why she said it was not healthy to keep the fat and skin on. Excuse me Im ordering out Im not looking for healthy. I asked for bean sauce on the side and all they sent with my order was the bean juice no beans, the monfongo was very dry and had chunks of pork skin in it... this place is as not authentic as they say they are.
You all need to up date you food menu prices. I asked the cashier about that and she said the bar next door open in three weeks and they would have a whole new menu. I dont understand whats with the three week wait to update menu prices. I also told her I only needed 2 sauces 1 garlic and 1 ketchup mayo. Cashier said they were 4 for a dollar when I thought they were .25 cents a piece and still got charged a dollar when I only need 2 I ended up with 5 ketchup mayos. Smh. Probably be the last time I go there.
My wife and I absolutely love this restaurant and the employees. But like a previous person had stated the customer service level has changed. For some reason the females seem to be unhappy when dealing with the guests or answering questions but we were overlooking that until last night...... We showed up at 8:40pm to grab a bite on our way back home to Parma and the door was already locked and the employees just stood around looking at us at the door and saying nothing. We thought that was very rude considering they dont close until 9pm and it was 8:40pm. Another customer was wanting to gain access also but nobody seemed to care we were at the door. Very unprofessional and it hurts me to see such a great restaurant starting to do people this was with poor customer service. To you employees..... You serve a great food and you need to treat every guests like they are the first to ever walk through your door because without the guests you have no job. As far as the food goes....Amazing! Keep up the good work!Update: Spoke to owner and hes handling customer service issue. The owner does an awesome job and super friendly.... Thank you!
The food was good though my Puerto Rican partner stated they did not soak the cod long enough to get the excess salt out. The waitress we had was taking shots with a group of men after taking our order and ignored us afterwards, so much so that the cook brought our food out. The cook brought our food to our table and proceeded to serve us. We never got the beer my partner ordered only receiving the water I ordered. Then after asking for our check they did not know how to correct the bill so charged our card and gave us cash as a refund for the beer we never got.I really hope this was a random bad experience as we were excited to have some Puerto Rican Mofongo, I cannot explain just how weird this experience was.
Dont get me wrong great food but its really only getting three stars because of service every time I try to call and place an order in advance I get put on hold and forgotten about and then every time after I hang up and try to call back to get somebodys attention all I get is dial tone freaking ridiculous
We adore the food and when we used to come in the staff was very polite. The past couple of times weve come in the current host/cashier has been so incredibly rude, Ive never been spoken to with such attitude and so much eye rolling and unnecessary comments. And to give context, I work in the service industry so Im always extremely polite and friendly to hosts, cashiers, and waiters. Every time, the behavior has been completely out of nowhere. Unless a staff change occurs, we will probably stop coming.
Cleveland Mofongos dishes are excellent. Lots of hard work to smash those plátanos. I love the pernil, or roasted pork. So good! Very home made authentic. Love ❤️ definitely recommend this place. All of the updated to the location are gorgeous too. Nice and spacious. The outdoor patio looks so nice and relaxing. A day to dine in the city.
I love this type of food however there where alot of cooks and nothing being cooked i seen ine of the guys pour old rice into hot rice to make a plate the manager was fussing I asked for water she said she got me and walked away still no water the beans tasted like salty pork and beans they were not pinto at all the chicken was a little dry the rice only if I had not seen what the guy did I would say it was good but I probably ate old rice mixed woth new
Food is beyond delicious. Only small issue Ive had is I thought they took call ins, but was told they dont which is fine, but theres been 2 times Ive gotten there to find out they were out of the item I came for. Sometimes it seems the staff is overwhelmed with the heat and orders but they are absolutely good people and will continue to support them. Love this place. Cleveland needs it
I absolutely love their food. They have excellent customer service. The food is always made fresh to order. My Favorite is the beef & chicken empanadas & the chicken quesadilla. I cant wait till they open up their bar side. Never had an issue each time I have went there.
Amazing, authentic food. Quick and reasonably priced. Clean building and friendly people. Would highly recommend to anybody looking for something out of the ordinary cuisines we find ourselves turning to day in and day out. Especially good if you like plantains! So tasty.
Im new to Cleveland, but Im well-acquainted with Puerto Rican food. Had to try a few things since I was excited to get some PR food out here in Ohio. Theres nothing like this out by the Akron area. The only Latin style place I know out there is Bomba. Its decent, but its fusion. Not even taking into account authenticity (which Cleveland Mofongo wins), Bomba still loses on quality and flavor. This is hands down the best Puerto Rican food Ive had off the island (not counting my mothers, but nothing beats a home cooked meal from a latina mom who can reallly cook). Im from MA, but Ive eaten PR food in upstate NY, NYC, CT, and of course MA. Between Springfield and Boston, the PR restaurants far outnumber what Ohio has to offer, but Im still going to have to go with Cleveland Mofongo.Ordered the roasted pork shoulder dinner. The pork was tender, tasty and plentiful. I experienced multiple textures, which is awesome, because at most places Ive been to, the pork can be either a little dry or completely boring and uniform in consistency (no fat marbling or pockets of juiciness against crispy bits).Even so, the rice and beans were the star of this dish, and that is saying a lot coming from me, because I typically go for the meat more. But I havent found a PR place that serves rice and beans like PR people actually cook at home. The portions in which these places make their rice have to be way larger than at home, so I see why quality and authenticity can be lost when comparing it to a bowl of rice and beans your mom just served off the stovetop. But at Cleveland Mofongo, the rice and beans tasted like the cook specially made an order in a separate pot for me.I also had a side of tostones which were perfectly fried. The portions were family size despite being only $3.50, and they came with a special sauce called Deliciousness sauce. Im fan of special sauces (mixture of mayo and some other sauce that gives it a red-orange color), but this one managed to taste unique and the texture was less goopy. It held onto the tostone and behaved more like a dip. I ordered an extra garlic oil sauce to dip the tostones in, and I alternated both with the garlic oil just barely having the edge for me.Finally, I had a beef empanadilla. This one was a hit for me, but for different reasons than the other foods. It tasted a lot different than what I I had when my mom cooked me some or when I had visited the island or even in the states. Maybe the owners are Cuban and this is their version or maybe they make it different in the area of PR theyre from, but the meat was a different texture and the fried dough was thinner, lighter, and crispier. But I highlight these differences not as a negative, but as a positive, because I really like their take. I wish I bought two.I did find a mistake in my order. I ordered a bottle of Coke, which they were out of, but they replaced it with a can of Kola Champagne, because they didnt have bottled Coke or cola. Bottled soda is more expensive than canned soda, so I expected them to change the price to $1.00 listed on Doordash. Most Doordash orders Ive had up until now run the price up on drinks and Im usually paying $2.50 for a can and over $3 for 20oz bottles, so I didnt care about the 50 cent upcharge, because the price was still only $1.50. Kola Champagne actually tastes more like cream soda than cola, but Im glad they replaced it, because it brings back memories of when I was young going out to get PR food with my family. The authentic way to eat a PR meal. Ill never try to order Coke from this place again. All these items are a repeat for me some day. I like to try the menu out so Ill be giving other items a try before then (eyeing the Mofongo, but there are others things on the menu that look great, too), but either way Im definitely ordering from here again.
I had the fried roast pork Mofongo. It was delicious, garlic oil on everything, and sooo tasty. A great portion size, I have some for tomorrows lunch, if it lasts that long. Fast service and a really clean small eat in area. Thank you for a great first experience, I will return for certain.
After our honeymoon in Puerto Rico we were not ready to leave the island behind and thanks to you all we didnt have to completely! We are so grateful to live in a diverse city like Cleveland. Here incredible and authentic cuisine from all corners of the globe are made and served up by hard working and talented people who love to share their culture.
This place wows me. The flavours are unbelievable. They are really carrying and they are bilingual. So if you need them to talk to you in Spanish or English they are able to do it. You can buy food to go too. And we experienced 3 different offers from the menu and they were all good. You have a green light in this one in my opinion.
When cleveland mofongo first open i tried your food i was disappointed so after all this time i decided to try it again and was very disappointed again my Cleveland cuban was not good at all all i tasted was the pickle and it was on a hoggie bun also my loaded fries was soggie because it looked like they had put the fries and the pork and cheese on top of it and but it the microwave to melt the cheese and it made the cheese hard my carne frita was hard like a rock and my rice tasted a little sour and the amount of it was not worth the price im so disappointed with it i will not be returning to this restaurant again.
Food was great, real delicious. The only reason my rating is not a 5 is because i ordered a shrimp mofongo and only received like 5 pieces of shrimp... For what Cleveland mofongo charges i was expecting a good amount of shrimp.. Atleast compare it to the amount of meat you get for the pernil or chicken... But the taste was great so thank you.
I called to place my order and they had me on hold for 15 minuets so I hanged up. I decided to drive there since is not that far from me. Very nice greeting and the cashier very nice. I order 2 Mofongos with fried pork and it was good; I also order 4 empanadillas, 2 beef and 2 chicken. They gave me 3 chicken and 1 beef and the chicken ones had a lot of chicken skin (disgusting) and they were not cooked on the inside because they probably put them in the deep fryer frozen... To the garbage they went. The place is small but cozy, no parking and it was like 120 degrees inside the restaurant.
Okay, so I absolutely love this spot. Unfortunately this has been my 3rd time not enjoying my Mofongo with Bistec 😞 3rd time being super dry....although the taste of the mix of the mofongo is AMAZING!!! But too dry....even the Bistec was dry. Please fix the issue! I so love it here! Thanks and please!
Is so sad the you want to eat something so bad and is not made right...I order the mofongo and shrimp al ajillo and I got home and it was so dry but really dry no juice on it, it was anything else but mofongo with shrimp al ajillo, I did not taste the garlic at all and the mofongo you hardly couldnt see or taste the chicharon (crackling)...thank God I had some shrimp at home some garlic and butter I made my own ajillo and I was able to eat it....this place used to be so good, now I would not go back...for $11.50 is not worth the money.
It was a pleasant experience besides not having a parking space near the restaurant but the food itself was good, the service was good and the location is clean ... Personally I feel they can improve on their portions but overall I would suggest them if you happen to be in their area.
I placed an order for pickup said it would be a 30 min wait -okay woman on the phone very polite and kind while taking my order - got my order - when I got to my car and checked it there was no extra order of deliciousness sauce (but they didnt charge me for it so no harm no foul I guess) then I noticed they gave me tostones instead of plantains and I specifically asked for plantains so idk how I ended up with tostones but I was hungry and just wanted to get home, then when I took out the empanadillas they were marked incorrectly and I took a bite out of the wrong one! The fries and empanadillas were both not crispy but the entrees had a great flavor to them that I enjoyed but I thought the Togo packaging was kinda cheap i mean when I go to a jamaican restaurant they fill that thang up and it has different sections and all the sections are filled this was just a little togo box I literally ate everything in one sitting and that never happens. Overall I wouldnt go back ill stick to Campus Grill in Berea now they got good stuff
The food was delicious! The place needs a little more of life if you know what I mean! It would be preferable to order your food to go because the place is small and a little boring!I recommend ordering pernil (puerto rican pulled pork) its delicious, they also provide vegetarian options tops (it very nice for people who dont eat meat)
The place is clean, but the food lacks flavor at all it compares to Puerto Rican food , Also the staff when they are attending do not tell you (welcome, no good afternoon, much less thank you for coming have a good day) bad customer service ; that is my experience about the place, I will not return sorry ..
So good! So authentic! This food just made me so happy! This was my 5 star review from a year ago, had to change it to 3 stars. Ive been back 3 times for the same amazing mofongo that I had the first time, no such luck! Very disappointing! Its incredibly dry now, just a dry lump of plantains and the pork cracklins are rubbery and unchewable. The 3 remaining stars are for the young lady up front, shes very good at her job no matter how dry the mofongo is.
Food is great if you can get through on phone. I spent 15 minutes trying to get through. I finally do and they put me on hold. After being on hold for ever I hang up and try again and I am back to not being able to get through. Fix your phone problems. People have lived and schedules to keep
Im a huge fan of this place. The vegetarian platter is too yummy. Seasoned rice with grilled onions and peppers, black beans and side salad with an impressive version of Italian dressing featuring pineapple juice🤗🤗🤗🤗. The guava and cheese empanadas are soooooo good. If you like plaintains youll like a Mofongo dish.
They would get a 5 for most of their delicious food products. But I’m giving them at 2 because they broadcast and have things on the menu 24/7 that they don’t ever have available. I’m highly considering never coming back and I’ve been coming since they first opened. It’s very disappointing and frustrating when you show up and they have posted up items constantly that is never there for purchase 👎🏽👎🏽
The pork quesadilla, pork mofongo, and beef empanadillas here are truly what dreams are made of. A personal favorite spot for my wife and I. We love bringing our out of town friends here to impress them with the delicious food Cleveland has to offer, haha! Service is always excellent. Food is always hot & fresh. No complaints, ever.
First time was not so good it was the first day Cleveland mofongo opened... Been there 3 times in two weeks and I love it... Had a little issue with an empandilla took it back the owner was so cool about it hooked us up without a problem. The staff is so nice to but my pernil sandwich is amazing so is the shrimp mofongo the empandillas r so good to I definitely give this place 5 stars food is great n staff is awesome... Glad they put this so close an didnt make it a pizza place again. I enjoy everything about this place and the prices r reasonable. Watch out Rincon they got the best mofongo around now and way more pleasant staff
Well..well this terrific place here and is not because Im puertorrican, is because the food is just cook right and always fresh and hot we love it.. my husband is black and he usually dont like all the food from our isla...but boy oh boy he does like the chicken empanadillas...and that Cuban sandwich is to die for...you guys are doing a excellent job and like I said before is not because you guys are (boriquas, puertorrican), or Latinos like myself, if the food is good is good period period..the food is just delicious..not salty just right..keep up the excellent job... Iris and Robert.😊
I am so embarrassed..I spoke up this awesome restaurant and bragged about it. A coworker got there during lunch and was told that they only had pizza empanadas and this during lunch; your busiest time. How do you not prepare for lunch rush hour? Never will I ever refer anyone....But I will not give up on them for myself. lol lol
The cleveland mofongo didnt look like much when it arrived on the plate but the wonderfully seasoned pork, garlic explosion of the plantains blew me away. Flavorful and varied. The quesadillas also have actual flavor instead of just cheese and chicken. Also Ive never had the coconut soda and that rocks too. I keep looking for an excuse to go back.
I ordered the mofongo con bistec. The mofongo itself was very moist and the steak seasoned and cooked just how Id expect from a Puerto Rican restaurant. However, I have to retract two stars from this place based on the fact that my initial order was mofongo con pechuga (Chicken Breast) and the young lady at the cash register stated that they dont make that, which I found to be unusual. The other star? I looked at their selection of drinks. They had Malta, but it was the Goya brand. That would make most Puerto Ricans raise an eyebrow.
Im from Chicago illinois came into Cleveland from Pittsburgh with my wife, brother, and his wife i have one word WOW very impressive Great food and very down to Earth people working there i highly recommend it . We will visit again before heading to Chicago.many blessings Cleveland Mofongo.
Not as good as when it first opened..seems like the cooks have changed and the service is getting a bit lazy...past few times my take out order has been wrong which is pretty disappointing, when i drive across town just to get food..good place just hope it goes back to as good as it was

2022-05-02Food is okey! Portions are small! The prices are okey but not for the portions. The spot is small not too much space to eat with your family. If you’re four you’re gonna be fine, more than that… uncomfortable. There’s one thing, they added the tip in the ticket, which is not okey, cause tip is OPTIONAL! And they add the 20% when the minimal suggested is 15%. Other than that, overall everything is just okey.

2021-10-25Is not the best Mofongo in the word, if you are Dominican... But was good, I like the Empanadas, and the Flancocho is ok. Service was good. But I think they need more Latin Flavor... and Ambiance (like latin music)

2022-01-30My family and I live close so we have ordered food to-go from Cleveland Mofongo plenty of times.Today, my husband, son and I met up with friends and had our first dine-in experience. We had such a great time catching up with friends and even tried a few new items from the menu. Everything was delicious!Veronica, our waitress was INCREDIBLE and added to the great energy that was already present in the restaurant. The food is always good, the new dine-in area is vibrant and the upbeat music just adds to the dynamic energy and overall experience. Veronica was so much fun and made us all laugh several times. She shared with us that this was her first time being a server and it just goes to show that it doesn’t always matter how much “experience” someone has but rather it is the energy and passion that people put into things that truly makes the difference.

2021-09-04Mofongo was my favorite place to hit but lately it’s been breaking my heart. Food is always delicious, but during our last three experiences we’ve received the wrong items (which is why the DoorDash ticket states to double check this specific item). We wouldn’t mind the staff messing around in the back and even being a bit rude at the register if we actually got the food we paid for. Would love to see this improve over time.

2022-06-26So I have been searching for a new Mofongo place since Bereas Campus Grille shut down due to the pandemic. I have to say that this place is just ok, not really the best I have had. When I ordered multiple mofongos, the meat was unfortunately overcooked and very tough. I didnt get any sauce for it so it was just very difficult to eat and for the price tag I paid I really expected more. I spent over $60 for 3 mofongos and one flancocho (very small piece for about $7) and just wished it would have been better. Gave them 3 stars because the ladies that attended me were very pleasant.

2022-06-13The workers were great and the atmosphere was amazing. The music was good and so were the drinks. I didnt get to eat any food so I cant rate that. Id definitely go back.

2022-06-05Food is Great and their Empanadas are amazing however they sell out quick. I was told the supply cant keep up with the demand. The service can be a little too slow at times but it may be to the shortage of staff.

2022-06-19Definitely a go-to when Im on the west side! The food fills you up, and I dont mind the prices because the quality is top notch! The only thing I wish is that they had the impossible empanada like they advertised, but other than that, Ill be a customer for life!

2022-06-25They have good customer service here and were time efficient. BUT we just spent $85 on food here for us to be super disappointed. The monfongo was so dry and no flavor at ALL. The pork was no help either, so dry. The roasted chicken DRY AND BLAND. The shrimp quesadilla still had the tails on the shrimp! Like come on. Thats pure laziness. The rice tasted regular not like an authentic puerto rican flavor. The loaded tostones were ok but the tostones had no flavor. The empanadillas were good but the beef ones were dry. The portions were small for the price you pay. As a restaurant who is representing puerto ricans, this needs improvement because I know how it should taste being a puerto rican myself! The price you pay for food is lowkey sad because the food is not that good! Do better so you can continue being appreciated!!!
