The pool hours were not as posted. Closes early on our only night(saturday). The pool fit mayne 25 people and they allowed 45 kids in there at once spilling out of pool and hot tub it was a saturday. No complimentary breakfast, not even a bagel. 12.50 for breakfast buffet. Room door didnt lock. Had to get our own bedding after checking in. Not impressed whatsoever
First the hotel itself is very nice, although difficult to navigate because its a maze. Our room was nice but honestly thats where it ended. We took a couple days away because my husband and I have been working incredibly long hours at very stressful jobs. I have been dealing with some health issues as well and we just needed a nice peaceful getaway. This was not that. Kids were allowed to run up and down the halls yelling and screaming in fact the room across the hall the parents apologized in advance that it would be loud because their kids fight and they were leaving them in the room alone while they went out. Then there was the food.. I inquired about room service to which I was told wasn’t offered, so I walked down to the lobby to get a menu for the restaurant which I was told at check in was fine dining. When I arrived there wasn’t a host/hostess at the station, I stood there a few minutes before walking inside to find myself some help. I asked for a menu and asked if I could call down and order and then pick it up since they don’t offer room service. The man who was standing in an EMPTY restaurant told me they preferred I walk back down to order so it didn’t get left sitting down there. This isn’t a short walk by any means to get to the lobby and again, I was there for a peaceful, restful weekend. So I go back up, get mine and my husbands order, walk back down and there is no one at the hostess table again. I walked over to the bar and ordered our food, there as the menu is almost identical and Im told prepared by the same kitchen. The food is very expensive, and flavorless. My husbands steak was ordered to be medium rare it was blue. It was raw. And had absolutely no seasoning on it at all. My steak was to be medium and it was rare. I didn’t want brussel sprouts and got them anyway. The only part good about the meal was my husbands beer. I spent 15 minutes standing in the bar listening to employees talking about someone that was quitting to go to another hotel chain because of how “bad it has gotten here”. And she personally didn’t care because she was leaving in two months also. Then breakfast… We arrived at the restaurant in lobby at 6:50 because I thought it started at 7:00 am. No one greeted us, the clerk was at the front desk didn’t even say breakfast starts in a few minutes.. nothing. We were completely ignored. Then at a few minutes after seven a women in the restaurant saw us and said she would be with us in a few minutes. But farm to table? Thats what the website says about the food here what a lie! The food was processed, microwaved thrown in fancy warmers and disgusting. The eggs were powdered and floating in water. The pastries and crescents obviously aren’t checked because our crescents were so stale they were hard as rocks. And then the fitness room…. I used it Saturday evening and the treadmill worked but SundayI wanted to use the elliptical and there wasn’t even a plug to plug it into the wall.If you are going to charge upscale prices and fine dining prices be that. This was not that experience. Ive been wanting to try this hotel for a long time, I’m sorry I did.
Bed frames stick out. Kick your shins over and over on the corners. Vomit in the pool when it opened in the morning after the night before. Breakfast is 12.50! Door keys dont work half the time. Bedding wasnt there when checked in. The list goes on. Dont find out for yourself!!!
Although i gave 5 stars for the above, there are some things i didnt like from a personal standpoint, the beds were way too soft for a person w a bad back, i think there should be coffee in the lobby 24/7, it was out for their conference attendees only on Saturday, and it would be nice if they offered a light continental breakfast thru the week, i know there is Star Bucks and a pantry w light breakfast foods to purchase but the room rates are high enough w/o spending more on coffee and breakfast. The brunch was very good though w several choices and the staff were very nice!
None of the hours posted are the actual hours of business. Went to bar at 10:30 and they were closed. Accused us of breaking a door and we were there for a large group. Have not been provided with proof either. Not a hospitable group of people at all. Wouldnt recommend this place for individuals or groups
Very friendly staff! We stayed in a room with the king bed. The space was nice and the room was clean however the TV was mounted against the wall to the left of the bed and made it kind of awkward for watching TV in the living room or in bed. There were only limited food options available here. The breakfast buffet was really good but the bar menu seemed limited so we went out to get dinner. They have a nice outside area to sit but the weather didnt allow for while we were there it would definitely be a good place to hang out when its warmer.
There has been great improvements to this hotel in the 6 years Ive lived in Licking County. However, the last two times I have visited for meetings I have been underwhelmed by the food selection and quality. With that being said, I believe the establishment as a whole, including the in-house Homestead Brewery, is worth visiting.
I only was in the event center, but seemed to be a nice open venue with an easy to find bathroom. It even has a lovely spot for a bar within the center. Very open space. Only issue as I was there for a vendor event that the sun comes in during the day, and makes it hard to see and have to move around to not get blinded.
We recently held a family reunion at the lodge. For a 3-star hotel, I think this place is great. The rooms were huge, clean, perhaps recently renovated(?). The event spaces were fresh. We enjoyed the new restaurant/bar. The grounds were clean. Some cons would be the jacuzzi jets did not work during our stay, pool could use a cleaning (but that did not stop the kids). We would be happy to hold another reunion here.
Service very good all departments. Food very good but limited due to ongoing pandemic fall out issues.Cons. Very uncomfortable furniture throughout hotel. Beds nice , big screen TV very nice. Couch , chairs, dining area very uncomfortable, very unergoniclly correct.Stayed in an executive suite. No light fixtures in closets or wet bar area. Phone not connected. Issues with TV remoted.Basically the remodeling wasnt completed properly, staff knows this and apologizes an tries to accommodate. All of this while the hotel charges top-dollar as if the units are fine...they are not..
Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are very nice with a modern, warm and inviting feel. Beds are comfy. Clean! Everything is clean👍The inner courtyard area with water features is beautiful and a great spot to relax. If I am in the area again I would definitely stay here.
The pool was big and went up to 5 feet deep. The jacuzzi was hot although the jets didn’t work because apparently the pump for it had run out. The pullout couch was a bit small but good enough for a young child to sleep on. I think the shower needs a paint job. The pool and dock view is absolutely gorgeous and I love that it’s pet friendly. Not at all crowded. I like that when I forgot something and called in, they had my forgotten items in a bag for me at the front desk so I didn’t have to go all the way back to my room. Definitely would recommend if you want a nice getaway with your family!
This is going to be a somewhat difficult review for me to give because there are really two separate stories here. First I would like to say that the staff here are terrific. They go out of their way to be accommodating and helpful wherever humanly possible. I have stayed here now for the second time. The first time was about a year ago. Unfortunately, things have not stayed the same or improved from a year ago. Let me at the outset say that part of the problem is frankly beyond the control of management. As several people at the hotel told me, due to the large unemployment checks that people are receiving it is very difficult for them to get help to run things here. That being said, theyre still charging the same price as last year for reduced services. As an example I had no idea that you could not get breakfast or lunch at the hotel. I arrived here a little early hoping to have breakfast. I was dismayed to find that no breakfast (or lunch for that matter) was available. The only thing that was available was a small boutique that sold Starbucks coffee and other drinks. Not much of a breakfast.I did manage to have dinner here. And again the staff tried very hard to make things work. However, the dining room is not open and you have to eat at the bar. Not a big deal for me. But it again points to a lack of staffing that needs to be addressed. In my opinion, the grounds are also starting to look a little bit shabby. There is some paint peeling and a fair amount of untended or under attended grounds. Lots of crabgrass and other weeds are growing where last year it seemed that the grounds were much better maintained. Some of the Furniture in my room does not close properly. Likewise while the cleaning staff does an excellent job of trying to keep things up carpeting is starting to look a little bit worn. I certainly hope that over time things improve here. This was and has the possibility of again being a terrific place. But for now, work is needed. Perhaps that will take place over the fall and winter as people come back to work. I certainly hope so. I would like to come back here again.
Had a wonderful interaction with the new manager yesterday. He was welcoming, funny, friendly and engaging. Patty in the lounge, and the young man who was working with her, were FABULOUS! They (quietly and appropriately) appeared to have an awareness that having Fox News on TV wasnt an acceptable source of entertainment for their diverse guests. I left feeling valued as a customer AND as a person of color. I look forward to returning for an overnight stay next time. New management was a good idea for this facility!!
The restaurants were all closed. And not due to covid. The bar and the little pantry/ take away were open. There were no luggage carts so many trips were needed to take in our luggage. Customer service was excellent. Very clean. I never did find the spa or find if it was even open. The pool was small and crowded. Grounds were beautiful.
I was looking for a venue to hold my sons wedding. This place looks very nice and they seem to be willing to work with you to make your day special. Olivia is the event coordinator and she is very friendly amd knowledgeable. We are looking forward to holding the wedding and reception there next year.
I debated about leaving a 4-star or 3-star with this one, but decided to give 4-stars just in case they are experiencing staffing issues like so many other businesses are across the country. The company I work for decided to hold the annual meeting here. The conference rooms are able to accommodate a large amount of people due to wall dividers, and the space used for the company dinner on the last night was very large & comfortable. However, there were two buffet lines setup for everyone & both lines ran out of plates at the same time. It wouldnt have been a huge issue had it not taken so long for clean plates to arrive. I suggest they invest in more dinner plates (we were told they ran out so the replacement plates were actually smaller than the initial ones had been)or simply switch to clear plastic plates from the beginning, like they did when our company dinner took place. I think it would also be wise to get a few delivery carts so the staff doesnt have to bust their backs while walking with a huge, heavy stack of ceramic plates.
Nice layout. King courtyard suites are nicely laid out. Would be quite nice when all amenities are functioning... Restaurant, pool, spa. Was quiet during our stay. Grounds are also well appointed, however grounds need some TLC to be tiptop. Staff was kind. Key card stopped functioning 15 min. before checkout, and had to return to front desk twice to get our room cleared. Otherwise, a nice stay!
After searching around for a last minute weekend getaway for my partner and I during Valentine’s, I came across Cherry Valley Hotel. It seemed too good to be true, especially since they still had availability! The minute we walked in, we felt so welcomed and so blown away by how beautiful everything was. Our room was so cute, and the view was perfect. I was not expecting to have our table set for our romance package dinner, but the fact they took the time to do so in our room really meant so much. The best thing I think about this hotel is how quiet it felt at night. You couldn’t hear your neighbors or hear any tapping on walls. And plus landing onto a very soft bed just sealed the deal. Best sleep my partner and I have ever gotten. Lmao We definitely hope to be back in the future, especially when their spa opens up! Thanks for having us!
My girlfriend and I were very excited to stay here after looking at their website. It was a couples vacation where we wanted to just stay at the hotel, use the pool and hot tub, while eating in the restaurant and never have to leave the hotel. After a 2 hour drive, we pulled up to a beautiful hotel located away from a lot of the hustle and bustle of the city. Walking into the lobby was like a whole different world. It looked like a lodge, which was exactly what the photos showed. The lady at the desk was so pleasant and nice. She seemed genuinely happy to see us. We were handed a sheet detailing which services were not offered, due to covid, and that is understandable. If youre looking for a full experience to enjoy the pool, hot tub, or a few other amenities, I suggest a quick call to verify what is opened before booking. The staff is very friendly and willing to answer questions and help in every possible way.
Our company KMA Electric and Heating & Cooling held our Thanksgiving dinner for our employees and their families in the ballroom at the Cherry Valley Lodge. The staff, the food, and the room were very nicely done. It is nice to see its under new ownership and doing well!
This is my second time staying at this hotel. I came with my church for our ministry school retreat. The staff went above and BEYOND any expectations. While we had many sessions throughout the day the kept our drinks stocked, which included Pop, coffee, tea and water. Our meals were delicious and the whole staff was so friendly. They’re hard workers that I know worked long shifts.I hope to stay again sometime :)
We were very happy with our stay here. The room was spacious and tastefully decorated. WiFi was fast. The courtyard garden is lovely and filled with a variety of plants. The staff was taking covid precautions seriously, which we appreciated. There were just a few downsides that are quite common in hotels in general: the bed was quite sinky to the point of discomfort and some guests sat outside in the garden at 2 am loudly talking.
First of all, the staff went above and beyond our needs for a ladies getaway weekend. The maintenance and IT crew were awesome in assisting us with set-up and the housekeeping staff saw that we had what we needed. The rooms are comfortable, we loved the common television area and the beds were heavenly to sleep on. BUT - as an event center the hotel often hosts weekend events. When booking your stay be SURE to ask if there are events scheduled for the weekend AND ask if the incoming event will cause you to lose sleep at night. During our stay we experienced one night of hallway-ruckus throughout the night - very disappointing for such a nice venue. So be clear in your booking, ask the right questions and hopefully you can enjoy all the luxury that the hotel has to offer.
I believe under normal circumstances, this hotel would deserve 5 stars. But I was a little disappointed some of the amenities they advertised were not available. I understand places are still struggling to come back from Covid restrictions and that staffing is short, but the staff that was there was wonderful. The rooms were great and very clean and the beds so comfy.
This hotel is my favorite hotel I have stayed at. The service is wonderful they are always happy to help and are very friendly. The hotel is beautiful the lobby gives off a real rustic feel, with high ceilings all made of wood with several 2 sided fireplaces. They have a bar, a restaurant a Starbucks a swimming pool and a beautiful courtyard that has several fire pits, gazebo that is located in the middle of a pond, plenty of seating, and corn hole. The room are always clean very cozy and romantic peaceful you do not hear people in the hallways, rooms that are next to you or above you every room has a sliding door that leads to your own private patio. Some rooms even have a patio that leads to the courtyard. They have meeting rooms and ballrooms they can hold several events. If I ever would have gotten married it would be there. Absolutely beautiful.
I called in to make a reservation, and asked if the pool was open. The lady on the phone said the pool was open but the hot tub was not. I verified that the pool would be open because the main reason I wanted to come was for my kids and I to be able to swim. She hesitated, but said yes it was. After checking in, we noticed how nice the rooms were, and changed to go swimming. When we got down to the pool we noticed it looked cloudy, but my daughter had stayed with a friend months before and it looked the same. There were also no towels. My friend and I let the kids swim for a half an hour or so. Someone finally came in with 3 towels but we have 6 kids so that didnt do much good. As my friend and I are trying to come up with a plan if one of us can go up to the room to get towels the kids start complainig how cold it is. I felt the water it was colder than any inside pool I have been in! The room itself was quite chilly too, not what you expect with an indoor pool. So I finally decide to call down and ask if they can turn up the heat in the pool or at least the room temperature. She says it is as high as it can go. Pull out couch bed was broken and there was not an extra blanket in either room! Pool was closed by morning😞
While the facility itself and remodel looks nice, quite honestly I don’t think I’d come back. The customer service is SEVERELY lacking. We had made dinner reservations weeks in advance and were notified two days prior to our stay that dinner in the dining room would not be available, so our reservations were canceled. Understandable enough with the current state of things these days. We were refused a reservation in the bar area where we ended up eating. Ok, I let that slide too. The bartender who served us dinner was less than friendly, the food and drinks were mediocre, and the only enjoyable thing about our dining experience was the man playing live music. We booked the executive suite to celebrate a birthday with family members and there were no trash cans/bags in the room and no bedding/pillows for the fold out couch. I called to the front desk to ask fir bedding and pillows and the woman said “well I’ll have to go to the laundry room for that”. I was walking in the hallway at the same time as her and watched her take a pillow from an empty room across the hall to bring to my room (yeah...not gonna use that). She then said “I’ll have to go get a sheet” so at that point I told her not to bother (luckily I had a blanket in my car).I am extremely disappointed in our experience here. We were looking forward to a girls’ weekend with family members and were let down to say the least. Hoping they can turn things around with the help of good management and ownership.
Outstanding service. I recently worked with Cherry Valley Lodge to arrange my daughters wedding. Such a task was daunting due to the pandemic and my being overseas in the Middle East but Lynda made everything easy and the wedding was beautiful. The rooms are very comfortable, the grounds are beautiful and the staff are outstanding.
I dont even know where to begin, the entire experience was nothing but a buildup of unneeded stress, and hiccups that I wouldnt wish on any bride. My husband and I had booked our hotel reservation/room block for our wedding back in late 2019/early 2020 for our wedding that was supposed to be in June 2020. Due to covid, we obviously had to to move our wedding to 2021. I was ensured, by multiple people that my entire block (along with the reservations that were made) was moved to our new date. Well, surprise, it wasnt. So our guests start calling to make reservations and they are being told there isnt a block. We then get one redone, and because our block was never transferred we cant get the rooms we originally had blocked... Moving forward guest are calling to reserve their rooms in the block, and they are being told the block is full. Typically not a problem, but I was ensure that as long as we were still before our deadline, and there were still hotel rooms available that they would honor the price for my guests. So I again have to call to figure this out, and come to find out my hotel block wasnt even full. Dawn (one of the front desk ladies) was nice enough to figure it out and get those guests moved over, but when I call my main point of contact because I wanted to make sure that this wouldnt happen again and that I could just be notified when my hotel block was full, I received nothing but attitude and her telling me I cant worry about this.Fast forward to the wedding weekend, I booked my room for Friday night, and Saturday night. Friday night, me and two of my bridesmaids stayed together in our room. We get up there and there arent any extra pillows, sheets or blankets for the pullout couch. We had to call four times to get pillows and blankets. Once they finally came, they didnt bring pillows, so one of my bridesmaids just used one off of the bed... Saturday (day of the wedding) when we left, we did not put the DND sign on the door that way sheets would be changed and towels would be refreshed, that never happened. My husband and I came back to dirty towels still on the floor, the bed not made, let alone the sheets not being changed...talk about special, huh?Oh, it doesnt stop there, one of my wedding guests who booked there room in plenty of time (was specifically in our wedding block) gets there at 11pm after the wedding, and they did not have a room for her.....So, we get back and changed and start hanging in the lobby bar (that was closed) with all of our guests and get told that we cant have our alcohol out there because it wasnt the hotels alcohol. Ok, I could understand that if the bar was still open and serving drink, but in addition, I specifically had this confirmed back in 2019 when I made this reservation that it would be ok because we were obviously celebrating. I would have never booked this hotel if this was going to be the case where we couldnt all continue to celebrate. The worst part of it all....The staff needs to 100% be trained better for elderly guests and handicapped guests. My great Aunt, who is in her 80s with a walker had to take the STAIRS to her room because they couldnt tell her where the closest elevator was to her room. Thank god my brother-in-laws parents where checking in the same time to help her. There was nothing easy, or relaxing about this experience, let alone special for being a bride and groom. I would NEVER wish this unneeded stress on any bride and groom. The WORST experience I have ever had with a hotel.
The hotel has a new owner who is renovating the entire hotel. Our room was well-appointed, clean and very comfortable. The huge bathroom and tub is a dream! I love the decor of the room, the lobby and the dining area. Outside seating areas in the courtyard are beautiful and very comfortable. The staff was helpful and friendly. The chef was willing to help with my dietary needs and our meals were delicious. The price was reasonable for such a stunning hotel. We are planning on returning.
Do not go here if you have children. Stayed here for a baseball tournament with several other teams. There were so many rules and we were unable to hang out with the families and the kids were unable to play with each other outside of the rooms. Nice facility, but if management feels they need keep families and children locked up maybe they should consider not allowing teams to stay here.
For $160 a night I would expect some free coffee up front. Okay, no dice. How about some water that doesnt come out of the sink? Nope. I was fortunate enough to talk to the owner who was behind the breakfast bar. Basically told be to pound sand. I am afraid to turn the TV on for fear of an additional charge for electric. Find another place where with a slight emphasis on customer service.
Well we came back again 7 months later. Every thing was the same . Including the hot tub was broken. AGAIN . When I placed my reservation I specifically asked about it as thats what I wanted to relax in the hot tub. They told me it was working. Then when I checked in at 4pm today I asked if it was working and the front desk lady said yes. IT IS NOT WORKING. !!! The hotel itself is beautiful the beds are great but I live 30 min away I dont need a place to stay i want a hot tub. Just be honest it will get you alot more business in the long run
The staff was exceptional and very accommodating! The rooms were clean and well designed with 2 king beds and a pullout couch...albeit the pullout was not very comfortable. Had a little lack of AC issue but they handled it very professionally. If not for the lack of AC would have given 4 stars. Would return.
This place was beautiful. I didnt stay in a room so I cant speak to staff or lodging but I did attend the event center. Great space and lots of room good sized area for concession and exits for outside to a patio. Parking could have been better. Had to park up front and it wasnt a short walk to get to the event center on the other side of the building.
Loved this hotel! It is an older style hotel . Has been remodeled and is very cozy and nice. Our room was great and the staff are very accommodating and friendly. Our bed was super soft and our bathroom had a huge garden tub. Would definitely stay here again. They have a beautiful courtyard with running waterfall and a venue for weddings. They also have a restaurant and a bar/pub, which we did visit. We were allowed my wine to take back to our room. Would love to come back to this hotel in warmer months so we could enjoy the beautiful courtyard more.
Everything was wonderful! I was there for almost a month and yhe staff were helpful, friendly and covid compliant. They were also very pet friendly! The bar and the restaurant both had delicious offerings and I greatly enjoyed my stay. If i ever find myself in Granville, Ohio again; Id definitely stay here!
At check in we found the rooms we reserved almost a month in advance had been given away, Woman at the counter just didnt seem to care all that much. The room we got was on a completely different part of the hotel (we wanted to stay specifically because of the courtyard view we saw) and our courtyard was...well not very well kept at all.Bathroom door didnt shut because the toilet was built too close, the beds feel like marshmallows and are rather uncomfortableWe ordered drinks at the restaurant and they were bad. My wifes mojito was flavorless and the mint they gave her had been rotten. The pool was nice, but the jacuzzi is less of a hot tub and more of a luke tubbThe sliding door handle to our room was broken and loosely screwed on.There are no signs anywhere to direct you to anything, absolutely not showing where the restaurant, bars or pools are.Rooms seem like they are in need of renovation
A wonderful place to stay. My husband had a three day conference in the hotel. We brought our beagle and had a wonderful stay. They have patio doors so you can take your pet outside from your room. So awesome! Staff was very accommodating with any needs or wants. Courtney was our housekeeping helper and she was very polite and friendly. While my husband was gone thru the day, I would use their exercise equipment, swimming pool, relax in the front lobby with the fireplaces, or visit eateries or shops nearby. Music entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. Beds are so soft! Such a warm cozy feeling visiting Cherry Valley Hotel. I would definitely recommend anyone to stay here.
We were part of a wedding party staying the weekend! I HIGHLY recommend!!! This hotel is beautiful and exceeded our expectations!! Rooms are huge, and big soaking tub in the room! Very home-like, clean, and accommodating!! They ensure you are well taken care of during your entire stay, they even check-in via text messaging to make sure you have everything you need. We ate at the hotel restaurant for breakfast twice, it was amazing!! I would not hesitate to stay at the hotel again!! I’ll be back for sure!
So, hubby and I needed a weekend get away. We were there the week before the official reopening. The grounds were unkempt and our patio was totally filled with leaves and spider webs. There was dog hair on the carpet and someone’s hair (not mine) on the pillow. The bathroom sink drain was cruddy. There was a constant drip all three days coming from the unit above us and it looked like the patio was covered with leaves and spider webs as well. Never saw housekeeping but the room across from us had 4 linen changes that were picked up. Television on the wall was so close to the bed it felt like watching a movie from the front seat of the movie theater. I felt like we paid full Price for a stay at a location that wasn’t ready to receive people yet. Finally, a note was sent following the stay and we have never heard from management about our complaints. Lastly, I am an event designer and had two upcoming large events I wanted to speak with sales director about and never heard from him. Sad but I will be taking my business elsewhere and won’t ever be staying at cherry valley again and I will make sure I share this with all my friends and business clients.
Beautiful resort. Old fashioned ambience meets modern comfort. Amenities include a full arboretum with pond with fountain, fabulous in house restaurant and separate bar, beautiful pool and hot tub area, gym...there is so much to explore! Simply thrilled with this find.
AC didnt work. No alarm clock. Holes in floor (under carpet) that we tripped on repeatedly. Toilet seat was VERY lose. Tub was slow to drain. No safety treads in bathtub. Water leaked from upstairs through the ceiling tile in the bathroom. Beds were too soft. You sunk in to them so far that it was hard to even roll over.
Im Having my wedding here in may 2021 (was may 2020 but the croona hit) and I am pleased with the staff. They are very friendly, upbeat & accommodating. Its awesome to see how everything has changed since the renovations. Food is really good, the gazebo & other things are a good perk. Wood burning fireplaces make it warm and cozy in lobby as well. The city of Columbus is nearby so it makes it convenient for whatever you plan to do. I cant wait until my special day there.
I made a reservation 3 1/2 weeks prior to our arrival for two 2nd floor balcony rooms with gazebo court yard view. Upon arrival, we were given first floor rooms on a supposed secondary “courtyard” which was not maintained and not what I made reservations for. The receptionist at the desk stated “I don’t know what to tell you”. There is also a 15% up charge to your room rate (including tax) for any “incidentals”.Finding our room was a chore as there is next to zero signage throughout the hotel directing you where things are.Our room was clean except for the smashed m&m’s under the partition door between rooms. The bathroom door hit the toilet seat that is extremely loose due to it being hit all the time. Be careful when you sit. And be careful in the shower as there are no non-slip strips. A fall occurred. The restaurant was to open at 4:00. It was 4:20 before anyone appeared in the dining area to greet us. The drinks we ordered contained a mojito with dead brown mint on top and a lime with hair on it, a wine spritzer that had pink slime floating at the bottom of the glass and a soda that had completely run out of syrup. We took this as a sign as to the plausible disappointment our dinner might bring and politely asked for our check. On a side note, the amount of marajuana being smoked on the premises was absolutely astounding! The pool was impossible to find as there were no signs pointing to its location. The hot tub was not even warm. The taphouse was also impossible to find due to lack of signs. A fellow guest had to point us in the direction of the bar while also complaining about the lack of signs. The taphouse was the best part of the stay. The bartender was knowledgeable and hospitable. The drinks were fantastic and we said we would be back for another round before they closed at 10:00pm. At 9:35 we showed up to only find locked doors and no one in sight. Calling the front desk, i was again told that “I don’t know what to tell you, they must have decided to close early.” Huge disappointment. We went back to the restaurant to get drinks and the evening manager there was incredibly kind. She was upbeat and informative and put a smile on our faces. I wish I could name her personally because she was awesome. The kuerig in your room is the only source of coffee in the hotel and there is no actual creamer to be found. We were told to go to Speedway up the road if we wanted coffee with half and half.Again the halls and courtyard were under a cloud of pot smoke. The pool was to open at 9:00am. We stood waiting until almost 9:30 when a cleaning lady finally showed up after telling us she forgot anyone was standing there. We took pictures and videos as to what was wrong in the room the moment we got there for fear of being blamed for “incidentals” upon checking out. We were so excited by the pictures and promises of this hotel. This place has potential but it did not live up to it this particular weekend.
Over two stays here (10days total) I am convinced the negative reviews are oddly not based on the accommodations but by locals looking for a place to eat who may have had a poor experience, which has no bearing on this great hotel!.This is such a nice hotel, the accommodations are superb, the staff are friendly, the prices are decent and the property is well kept. The rooms were spacious and clean, the furniture was new and the feel in the room is very comfortable!I ate in the bar area once, I had the breaded fish which was really good. The cocktails seemed a little on the expensive side so I decided to go elsewhere for food and drinks, which is a shame for any business to lose sales based on something so easy to fix.At the end of the day (and it was lol) I would stay at this hotel each time I am passing through, I would have no problem recommending to family and friends. To go one further, I would recommend this hotel to my boss...I guess I can’t go further than that. 😁
I did not stay at the hotel, but the lobby and entrance was beautiful! Two of us stopped for breakfast around 7:30 am and we were disappointed. First of all, the font on the menu is incredibly small! I ordered the steak and sweet potato hash. There was very little sweet potato and a lot of regular potato. My meal came out about 7 minutes after my partners meal. Her eggs were not cooked as ordered and her potatoes were very dry and bland. Our server was very nice but not very attentive. Well try again later, hoping for a better experience.
This place has so much potential. My problems come down to the maintenance of the place. We stayed for over 3 days, and in that time the pool was out of order, our nearest ice machine was broken, and the back and side exits were unlocked so anyone could walk in as they pleased. The food at the restaurant was supposed to be high quality with an enormous price, but all of the food we tried was a 6/10 at best. Their is no complimentary breakfast and like the dinner is pretty poor. The place is beautiful and the rooms I believe were newly renovated. However the large tv was not a smart TV so you have to bring your own streaming device if you want to watch anything other than basic cable. The staff was friendly but partially incompetent. We originally going to come with our dog but changed our minds and we notified them when we arrived that we had no dog. Halfway through the stay they charged us an additional dog fee. Never once over our weekday stay did we see any maintenance. We also told them about the ice machine on day 1 of 4. No repairs were made in that time. In fact, they didnt even bother to put up an out of order sign.Honesty, this place has a lot of work, this place would be fantastic I think in a few years if they can get their act together.
The pictures of this hotel online are gorgeous and the inner area with pond and gazebo are lovely. When I made the reservation, I asked for one of these rooms and also informed them that I would bring my dog. It says on their website that they are dog friendly. Sadly, I ended up with a room facing the highway exit ramp. Also informed upon arrival that they are NOT pet friendly and that Im not allowed to even sit on restaurant patio outside with my dog. Very disappointing.
We stayed for 5 nights and it was wonderful. Front desk people were very kind and friendly. I loved the design, decor, and layout of the room and lobby. Awesomely big tub in the room.We did get lost a few times in the halls, but it was nice to wander around and just look at the paintings and such. Great photo ops!The pool and hottub were nice. There were no towels provided, but we brought our own, so no biggie.Food at The Sunflower restaurant was very good and reasonably priced.Lastly we were allowed a super late checkout. (Over an hour!) Other places have hassled me over simply asking. Will definitely stay here again whenever we are in the area.~whoop whoop
If I could give 0 stars, I would. It looks very deceiving from the lobby. Once you enter the room, youll be greeted by a mixture of scents including, but not limited to: mold, mildew, animal dander, and old smoke. The smell was only impressive because it seemed it may just be one of the few scents you cant become nose-blind to... kept me up all night. I was pleasantly surprised not to find bed bugs while I was there, but while inspecting my super old mattress, I also had an eagle eye view of the box spring which had a layer of dead pill bugs, spider webs, and dust. The bathroom looked clean and slightly renovated. I was actually tempted to sleep in the tub. Try not to stub your toe on the dresser (which I found comical) carefully placed smack dab in the middle of the room. Dont be fooled by the renovation until you have some proof that it actually happened. By a few of the other reviews, I would gather some rooms are renovated. Asking for one of their nice rooms may be a benefit to you as there arent many places to stay in the area.
This hotel has a lot of potential to be something truly amazing, however on our trip it fell short. We had multiple problems with the plumbing in our room, had to plunge the toilet almost every single time it was used. Called 3 seperate times about the issue. On first evening we went out to get some fresh air after a 7 hour car trip and there was a beer can left which told me our patio area had not been sanitized from the previous occupants. We also could not even utilize our pull out sofa the first night because it was jammed. They did come out and fix it for use the second night. The second night I took my husband down for a walk in the gazebo area and we couldnt get anywhere near the edges for pictures because it was covered with spiders galore. I booked this place for a little relaxation amongst our long days couple days of business and left pretty disappointed.
Decided to stay here for Lost Lands. Booked almost a year in advance and got a great deal! Yes it is outdated but not by much. They room i booked was very spacious and had a couch with a table , and a large bed. There was a nice big tub/shower as well. Outside area is beautiful and great to spend time in; There is a indoor pool as well. The breakfast served in the hotel is not included but gets added to your total bill which is convenient in my opinion. It is fairly cheap and pretty good. Im a fan of the atmosphere but I believe they will be renovating sometime soon which is great !
This place was so beautiful but not over the top. Huge bathtubs that are the best to sink into. The staff was very nice and always willing to help. The beds were sooo comfy! You could just sink into them and sleep for days. I would definitely visit again and tell all my friends and family to stay here!
After our command messed up in booking hotels, they sent us to this one. Upon arrival I was impressed with the grounds as well as the staff. Although our command had failed to provide us with meals, the hotel helped facilitate an amazing dining experience. Although most of the guests were families and business people, the hotel staff was very friendly to us and repeatedly thanked us for our service. The rooms were clean, large, and Minnie had a great view of the pond and cherry trees.
We had our annual 4 day company meeting at the newly renovated Cherry Valley Hotel and Event Center. The food delicious, guest rooms were crisp and clean and most importantly the attention to detail was exceptional. The staff did not miss a beat and they were there the moment I needed them. THANK YOU to all of the staff for going out of their way to make our team feel welcome, for the great service and an awesome week! I look forward to our next event at Cherry Valley!
Hands down the most relaxing hotel ive ever stayed in! The best valentines day gift given to me from my husband. We got drunk at the bar, went for a swim, came back to the room, HUGE bathtub 😉 and our view was just absolutely stunning. For $100 a nite YOU CANT BEAT THAT PRICE! i cant wait to come back and stay for a weekend. It was first nite without the kids in such a long time. I truly felt myself come back thru the cracks. My husband and I laughed so hard together and cried together. It was such a moment we truly needed and cherry valley made it perfect!👌 thank you for everything! Hoping to return super soon! Making it affordable id love to come back every weekend if we had sitters like that 🤣🤣
I highly recommend the Cherry Valley Hotel and Ohio Event Center. My son and his wife were just married at there on August 15th, 2020. The venue was just absolutely wonderful for their wedding. The officiant, the food, the rooms, everything was just spectacular! The Staff went above and beyond to make sure that everything was perfect for their special day.
Although, the new renovation of the entire project is not complete, its coming along beautifully. The new rooms are really nice with each room now having King beds no matter what size room you are in.. So even if you book a double bed room, it will have 2 king size beds and a pull out bed in the couch! The hotel changes are beautiful!Parts of the Conference Center arent fully completed, but well on its way.As for the restaurant; Unfortunately, we werent impress with our food at all, there was 11 of us! They have a nice menu, just the outcome was a disappointment. But, again theyre still in the mist of renovations!
I give it 4/5. We stayed at the lodge this week (1st week of December 2019) during the Candlelight Christmas Celebration in Granville and were pleased to see that the renovations did not change the charm of the place that originally drew us to Cherry Valley. We also appreciated the updated rooms and the cleanliness of them. Much to our surprise we were pleased that Cherry Valley provided shuttle service every 20 minutes to and from the lodge into Granville. The vehicle we rode in was topnotch and comfortable. One of the memorable things that happened during our stay is that the Cherry Valley had entertainment plans that Saturday and we were treated to a beautiful ballet representation of The Nutcracker! I will never forget this performance as I basked in the ambiance of such beauty. Decorations were tastefully done. I am pleased to say that we have made Cherry Valley our home for the past 20 years and had been going there for special occasions even before our children were born, so it has become a part of our family tradition. Now for improvements: I still think major improvements should be made with the restaurant cook on staff as it should not take over an hour to produce a simple breakfast for a family of four when the restaurant was clearly not even crowded. My children ordered their eggs sunnyside up, and they arrived looking greasy with the yolk broken and did not appear to be in the way it was ordered. You need someone experienced in cooking who knows how to cook fantastic meals efficiently. The only other glitch was the fire smoke alarms going off due to smoky fireplaces. The alarms went off twice (one at night and one in the early morning). You might need to get those fireplaces cleaned out. One last suggestion: please put in more candy and snack machines.
We stayed here and got an executive room. The room was large and clean. It had a tv in the living room and in the bedroom. Small fridge under the tv in the living room. There was a small counter and sink with a coffee maker. There was, also, a large couch and dining table in the living room area. The closet in the bedroom was a walk-in. The hotel does not offer room service. There was only one trash can in the whole room, which was tiny and in the bathroom. Also, there was no desk or any place to sit with a tablet or computer with a power source close by and a light. An okay experience.
The moment I walked through the doors I fell in love with this place. For the price we paid I was thoroughly impressed by the antique cabin like quality of the front lobby. I found it to be quite charming. We did have a few minor issues, our room was hot cause the air was off and the fridge was warm and freezer was frosted over but the friendliness, courteousness and quick response of the staff made up for the minor complications. Fridge was not fixed but they allowed us to store some food behind the front desk in their fridge. Rooms were spacious and quite nice for the price you pay. I was very excited to have such a large 2 person bathtub and they even provided a crib for my one year old. The restruant was expensive for our budget. Beautiful but not budget friendly, they were accomadating to my request for child portions for eggs and oatmeal for my son to go and very inexpensive for breakfast items. Patio was extremely gorgeous with the sound of birds chirping and water flowing, my husband and I wished we had more time to explore and enjoy this charming hotel just half an hour away from Columbus. I found the antique furniture charming and they even had a lit fireplace in the lobby. The bed wasnt the softest in the world but it was bearable and a place to sleep. We paid $183 for two nights and for two adults and one child. For the price we paid the facility was more than what we could have hoped for and we hope to go again in the future on a more quieter retreat rather than a business trip. Definitely worth the stay and would make a great family or couple getaway.
Very nice rooms, well kept, however some features of the that would be standard in others seem to be missing. Having a drink or snack machine by each ice maker would make life a lot easier than taking the giant hike all the way to the lobby. Also the bar and restaurant prices are very steep!
The hotel is under new ownership and theyre planning extensive renovations so the rooms, hallways, etc are not in the best shape. Having said that, they are clean, the rooms are large, and we had a comfortable start. Friends had a room that smelled musty, and one had a broken AC so its definitely hit or miss. But since we got a decent price for the room, it met our expectations
What use to be a beautiful place has turned into a dive. Although they say they are about to remodel, that should have no bearing on how the outside landscaping is kept....which is horribly unkept. Once beautifully landscaped is now overgrown. Our room was dated and smelled. Not as tidy as it should be. However the staff seem to be really nice.
The lodge on the outside is absolutely beautiful. The young lady that checked us in couldnt have been more friendly, nice, helpful and just a geniunly good experience checking us in. We came here for a funeral and she tried to make us feel as comfortable as we could. A little later that evening we had another good experience with a different girl working the desk. Everyone here has just been wonderful. The view outside our room is amazing. Definitely will be back. You all are wonderful!
Fast room service and good food. The rooms are cozy and clean. Tv picture was not that great but turns so you can watch it on the couch or bed. The bathroom is big and so is the shower. It was nice having a porch outside your room to step out on. For the price we thought it was a good deal. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back again. We also had our daughters birthday party here a couple of months ago and she loved it! It was the best place we ever did a birthday party at and the staff was great!
As others have mentioned, the overall decor and rooms are a bit dated. This really is minor, as everything is kept clean and neat. The staff was helpful and courteous, and the food at the eateries is good. I paid a bit over the minimum rate, as I was a part of a larger group, but it was still well worth it.
CVL has always been our go to while visiting family in Newark but it’s been over 12 years since we’ve stayed here, and we were extremely disappointed to find it in such disrepair for this stay. The lobby has a warm welcoming lodge vibe and friendly, helpful front desk staff but that vibe is gone the minute you pull around to the back entrance. The hallway carpets are heavily worn and dirty and in desperate need to replacement. The room sizes and layouts are great but everything in our room was dingy, old and musty. The mattresses were old and broken down, as well as the pillows and filthy upholstered chairs. The wallpaper was peeling, and the carpets and bedding were old faded and heavily worn. Our room was on the second floor and had a little walk-out patio overlooking the courtyard, but trees were so overgrown there was a branch literally pushed against the patio door and it would protrude into our room when you opened the door, as well as years-worth of dead leaves branches, spiders and webs covering the patio, rendering it useless. We were told they’re undergoing large-scale renovations and updates so hopefully this property will be brought back to life. Until then, they have no business charging over $100/ngiht for such a sub-standard room.It may be worth requesting a renovated room if you’re making a reservation.
The hotel was nice and I liked the layout of the room. The negative would be that the room we were given was extremely warm, almost hot. It is February so we were told that there was no air conditioning so it seems that , depending on the time of year, the hotel either provides air conditioning or heat and if it is unseasonably warm then the front desk said we should open a window. We were on the first floor and the only window was a sliding glass door so we didnt feel comfortable doing that. The hotel did move us to a different part of the hotel on the second floor and the room was very cool, especially compared to the first room. Also the water pressure in the shower was almost non existent.
Stayed over Thanksgiving 2019. Room was very nice, will bring my own pillow next time, pillows are very full. Heat never did work correctly, you either froze or it was to hot. We did inform the staff, staff member did get it working but it when right back to freezing or hot.Buffet dinner on Thanksgiving was very unorganized , food was good, very expensive and not worth the money. Ended up going to Bob Evans and eating later that day.Ice machine didn’t work and the 3 days we stayed , no sign or was machine fixed. No signs for the pool.Web site needs updated, they are having and open house 12/7 , also New Years Eve party with a five course meal.It is a very beautiful hotel and court yard.Hopefully they light up the court yard , place signs, fix ice machines, show costs of food in shop.. fix heat in rooms.Glad the water park is gone!!! Best decision.I stayed here a couple years and you had room service, the coffee was excellent . Since then it has changed. Also the placement of the tv was right where you get up out of bed, make sure it’s against the wall before going to bed or you will run right into the tv.
The room was clean, dog friendly so we could keep our dogs with us, the bath tub was huge, an the staff was nice. But I didnt like that they did have us in a air condition room even after complaining about the heat they suggested opening a Window. Thing is we didnt have a Window but a back door that wasnt screened. So opening it wasnt a option unless we wanted bugs in an trusted our dogs not to run out them.
Great location, great rooms. The whole place is beautiful and the people working there are nice. The food at the restaurant was good. Only complaint was the pullout couch bed had no sheets or pillows on it or in the closet so had to call the desk. They dont give u more than 3 sheets so you freeze all night even with the temp on high. Too many people, only one pool. Other than that, would try again.
No AC in the rooms. We had to open our back door to the courtyard, which meant we also got cigarette smoke and profanity from other guests. The courtyard can be peaceful, though. A call to the front desk only gets you a busy signal or no answer. Housekeeping was scarce. We couldnt get fresh towels or toilet paper in our room. We either had to go buy some at a store, or raid a housekeeping cart if there was one around. Staff looked like they werent treated the best. My overall impression is that the resort needs a lot of work and organization and doesnt seem to be getting it.
Great place over all the area kept clean of trash and the rooms are well cleaned. The biggest thing I noticed is that the upkeep of the building could be better. For some reason all of the exterior walls in section G had this odd orange stain on the siding. Also we noticed that small little things were broken such as the retractable clothing line in the bathroom. The water park area is great for kids. There are plenty of lifeguards around and they keep a close watch for any signs of trouble.
Bad experience. When we got there the room was very hot they didnt turn the AC on for us before we got there after a few hours in the room we were noticing a heavy animal urine smell they are pet friendly thats fine but they need to clean those rooms better we got another room. The key card locks bad I had to continue to go to the front desk to get my key to work. No ice machines were working I actually had to go to the store to buy bags of ice for my cooler. My daughter almost fell off the balcony because it was dry rot and falling apart. After walking around in the center of the resort beautiful scenery however lot of paint chipping off could not sit at the benches cuz they were not cleaned such a beautiful place but run down.
The lobby is nice but the rooms are average cheap motel rooms. They kinda smell old like mold and smoke. There is a refrigerator which is helpful for longer stays. No microwave though. My shower is kinda weird and my door doesnt open easily but its probably the best place in this location
Attended for a conference. Have not stayed at the hotel. Beautiful venue with wooded area. A little older, but clean and serves its purpose well. My only complaint is that the food leaves much to be desired. Minimal selection and if you dont like what they serve, I think youre kinda out of luck.
I never give a bad rating but the 1st room 640 smelled of mold and was sticky feeling carpet felt gross and smelt of wet dog or like it was flooded at one time. Toilet kept running to. It actually induced my asthma that’s the only reason I’m writing this review. The staff was really nice and moved us to another room which was actually clean smelling so that was a plus. All in all if the 1st room wasn’t bad I would have rated it a 4.
Serious housekeeping issues. Had to be moved to another room at 2 AM due to loads of bugs on bed and sink, ants found crawling on bed pillows, and strong dog odor in room. Discovered the blanket had been chewed. While the next room supplied was bug free; there was no housekeeping supplied throughout several days. We had to request fresh towels and have the trash cans emptied for all 3 days. Bathtub drained slowly and room not thoroughly vacuumed. Sheets were never changed or beds made. This is a great conference location and at one time appeared to be a beautiful place. But, it really lacks in cleanliness. This is a pet friendly property, which is fine as long as it is cleaned and regularly exterminated. This doesnt appear to be the case. No apologies were offered ---just sort of a sigh and an oh well attitude.
The rooms were ample in size, with large sitting areas, a work table and large bathrooms. The rooms had refrigerators, Kuerigs, and complimentary tea and coffee. The bed was on the soft side, but comfortable. The only downside was regulation of room temperature. The bar food was ok, but service was on the slow side. The staff was professional and courteous.
I was with a party of 12 for lunch on 7/2/16. We did not stay at the hotel. The meal was good and prices resonable. Service was fast considering our party size. The dining room manager was especially friendly and helpful. We were able to.sit outside and visit for an hour or so in the court yard after our meal which was nice.
The first thing your greeted with is the dank musty smell when you walk in. The hotel smells like it has been closed for 100 years (It hasnt been closed at all). Then you walk to the front desk to one of the most clueless people in the world. Once you find your way around this building with severely overgrown landscaping and search for the door to go in because you cannot see the Letter door they told you to go to. You will finally make it to your room and are greeted with the same musty smell mixed with stale Cigarette and wet dog smell. I was surprised to find there was no bed bugs. Get ready for the real treat! The mattress folds up like a limp taco shell when you lay on it. An air mattress has more structure and comfort than this mattress. Oh and do not be fooled by the pictures on the site. That beautiful water park they show was closed down in November because they sold that building. They do not tell you that either. So the real pool you get is about as big as a large hot tub.
The water in the pool areas was nasty as all get out. There was hair floating all throughout it and it looked like they never cleaned it. Every flat surface in the hotel was covered in dust and filth. The mattresses in the room were hard as a rock and I ended up sleeping in the chair sitting up. Best thing about the place is that it had hot water in the showers as long as you could get the faucets to stay attached. Would NOT recommend to anyone for any length of stay and I work construction so Ive stayed in some shady hotels/motels.
We came down from Canada for the Buckeye baseball tournament. Aside from poor wifi, and a small amount of construction, our stay was fantastic! Clean grounds, clean hotel and the pool area was great. The staff were very accommodating during our stay especially Linda. Thank you Linda for making our stay perfect!
Everything at this time, middle of August 2020, is secondary to following health and social distancing rules for business. This hotel is holding mass gatherings, including weddings, and not ensuring the safely of its guest by requiring mask wearing. There is no security enforcing mask wearing. The hotel should be advising guests prior to confirmation that the hotel is hosting mass gatherings and does not require its guests to wear masks. Clearly there is a huge risk in staying here, I would strongly suggest you stay away unless you are immune to the Coronavirus.
This place makes me so sad. It was once lovely and you can still see a lot of the structure put in place at its height. It has good bones, but is just not taken care of anymore. The furniture is falling apart. The whole hotel needs a deep cleaning and a skilled repair man (who can maybe figure out why the pipes scream whenever someone flushes a toilet). Still, the botanical garden is nice to sit in early in the morning, and despite it being close to the highway it is peaceful. It is also handy if you are having an event at Bryn Du Mansion. If someone put some money and effort into this place it could be great. I didnt have time to try out the attached water park, but it looks exciting.
We had a good overnight stay at Cherry Valley Lodge. It was clean and comfortable. My only minor complaint was the gentleman at the front desk sent myself and 3 small kids the longest route to find our room. I discovered a shorter route later that night when attempting to find a stocked vending machine. I would stay here again.
The lodge could use some updating. Lots of things within the room was rundown, stained carpet, chipped and peeling paint on the patio etc. The exercise room had equipment that was broken and/or didnt work and was rusted even. The beds were clean, pool area was okay. The water park was new in 2006 and seems to be decent still (we did not visit here as this was an extra charge, even for my 2 year old because of her height, and was evacuated shortly after we tried to go in because someone defecated in the pool and it had to be drained and evacuated.) When the water park was shut down, those people began coming into the pool area which was meant to be for paying hotel guests only. It was very easy to enter anywhere in the hotel without a key card, even though it said you needed one, because some areas were not locked or did not work if they were locked. The walls are also pretty thin and we could hear our neighbors, could hear when they turned their water on etc. Would not want to really stay here again unless there were some renovations done. This hotel has so much potential and was probably amazing and beautiful when it was first built.
First and most likely last time here. Arrive around 9 pm to find the person running the desk has absolutely no idea what he is supposed to be doing. Had to go back to the front desk twice after check in so we could pay the dog fee. Then at 1 am the fire alarm went off, not once, but three times. Not one staff member notified us what was actually going on. Finally when we called the front desk, the guy had no real idea what was going on. Did we need evacuate? He had no clue. Ends the call with my pleasure. Needless to say I am a bit miffed with this guy. Moving on to the room. Dirty, stains on literally everything, even my pillow. Dust and dirt embedded into about everything. Rooms were gross to say the least. We lucked out on the price per night. They have a sign that says $360 a night. Haha what a joke. Moving outside, looks like the place was abandoned. No signs to the place, the grounds are unkept. Never even attempted to see the pool. Overall the only good thing about the place was the room service. So happy that it was a short stay here. Looking forward to the next hotel we are going to.
I made a room reservation directly through their website. I didnt see where their cancellation policy was posted but found some info through another booking site which was posted at 5.00 p.m. the previous day. By the time my call was answered at the hotel which was 4.40 p.m., I was told that the cancellation was at 4 p.m. the previous day. My frustration was not only the fact that the cancellation policy was difficult to find but also that my calls went unanswered several times. So I now have a hotel room charge to pay.
I have only been here for 1 hour, and I am trying to figure out how to handle this situation. So far, the bar is closed as well as the hot tub, with no prior notification. The bed is pitiful and the pillow shams have a white caked on substance all over them. We had to call for blankets and pillows for the fold out couch when they were aware we had two children. What a 60 minute hassle so far! The staff seems very bothered with my concerns. This was my go to place for years. Im not sure what has happened in the two years since I have been here. Very disappointing.
This location has a lot of promise, but it is untapped. The staff are poorly trained and unenthusiastic and the logistics of running a hotel seems to elude them. There was a constant stream of mix-ups and complaints at the front desk. The excuse was understaffing, but lack of organization and shared responsibility seemed to be the key. Our personal room was clean and nice. However a theme here was out of stock/ out of order. Too few inner tubes available at the water park, drinks unavailable, foods unavailable, machines broken, spa closed for good. With new management, this facility could shine, but at the moment, it seems to be in a road to decline.
Very short but pleasant stay. Unfortunately I was plagued with a migraine and spent all my stay in bed. Many thanks to their employee, Wendy for getting me much needed crackers and sprite 👍👍👍The room was very clean minus the pistachio shells scattered on floor and under bed and dark ring in the tub. Room is small but has everything you need. Layout is perfect for families traveling with 1 or two small children or teens. We look forward to coming back with our family and getting to enjoy the beauty of the place and all the amenities it offers 😀 I would definitely recommend this lodge !!!
I did not stay overnight. I was only there for an evening event. My complaint is only about the pricing of their booze. The bartender was busy, and it was showing. I ordered 2 gin & tonics and a draft beer. The beer was in a short glass , and was probably 12 oz. The charge was $25.00! I guess I dont get out enough, but those prices were highway robbery.
Hotel is very old and is in desperate need of a make over. The tv stand/dresser is located in the center of the room in an incredibly awkward spot between the foot of the bed and sofa in an effort to create a feeling of two rooms but it only serves to make the room feel crowded and uncomfortable.Bring plenty of towels with you; there were never enough towels in our room and the front desk staff had great difficulty rounding up additional towels for us on multiple occasions. The hotel does not provide or even sell convenience items like toothbrushes. We were there at the end of March and despite advertising that the water park is 85 degrees year round, it was cold in there except for a few hot spots where the hot air comes from. The water was also chilly and straight up cold in the kiddie area.
We made plans to surprise our children with a fun weekend for my sons birthday. We spent the first hour switching rooms not once but twice. Originally we were given a room that was already occupied by a family. Then we were sent to a room where there was a water bottle filled with tobacco spit and cigarette butts sitting right on the dresser. It was the first thing we noticed other than the 90° temperature of the room. They moved us again to a new room that was the exact opposite. It was freezing! But we adjusted the thermostat hoping it would warm up. We proceeded to the water park where we had so much fun, just to come back to a still freezing room. I called the desk and they sent a maintenance personnel to check it out. He was up in the ceiling for a few minutes and said it would take 30-60 minutes to circulate, so we decided to go eat dinner. Our kids were worn out by the time we got back to the lodge. Enter the room to tuck them into bed just to see that our rooms temperature had not changed. It was still cold! I marched down to the desk and they sent another maintenance guy up to check it out. He was very nice and did fix the problem. My wife and I agreed that we would not stay at the lodge ever again, but we may still do a day trip to the water park.
BEDBUGS! I stayed at this hotel years ago and thought it was nice. I was back again, I was put in room 610. I tried to check for bugs like I always do when I check into a hotel. Although, it was difficult because the lighting was very dim. Even with all the lights on. I got up the next morning, turned the light on and found a large adult bed bug crawling across my comforter. We put it in a cup and took it to the front desk. The manger acted put out with us. She did say they would call someone in to confirm it and then treat the room. But when we asked questions, she was rude with her answers. We asked them to heat our belongings in their dryer and throw away our suitcases, which they did agree to do. Not once did anyone apologize to us. An apology would have been nice. The hotel was dirty, and very run down. The staff were just dressed in very casual street clothes and it seemed they were understaffed. Although, it seemed as though there were very few people at the hotel, every time we went to the front desk, it seemed like we had to wait forever to talk to someone. The food was not good. I will not be going back.
Literally the worst hotel in the United States. Dont get fooled by them calling it a resort. The hotel looks like the scenes from the shining. Creepy as hell. The restaurant there has THE WORST SERVICE!!! If youre impatient, DO NOT eat there. The rooms smell like if a ran down old folks home and an uncleaned porta-potty had a child. Absolutely gross. The staff has the worst attitude. DO NOT STAY HERE. DO NOT!!!!
Staff was attentive and courteous. Room was clean. Amenities were dated but at least have flat screens. The pool however was crowded full of rowdy kids throwing football while their trash parents squeezed in the hottub. No place for kids. Had to leave before someone got rocked for hurting one of our children.
Please know there has been a lot of change going on at the Cherry Valley Hotel. I do know there has been some very bad reviews about the hotel, of which we are sorry to have. we have been updating and remolding as we all can, and I do know in the cleaning departments, we have all been cleaning thoroughly and checking everything. as we wish to meet the highest expectations you as the customer may have. we are very sorry for anything that meets less then what you would expect. and are pleased that you have chose and or will choose to stay at the hotel. your business is appreciated, and to that a tremendous thank you. the feedback you give helps use all make the hotel a better place to stay. With care to you ~a member of Cherry Valley Lodge~
We just experienced the most overpriced/poor quality Thanksgiving buffet ever at the “new and improved” Cherry Valley Hotel. The hotel had heavily advertised in the local media about their grand buffet. For the price $35/person (not including a mandatory 20% gratuity plus tax), it was a huge letdown. First were the long lines in the hallway just to get seated. Then, there were way too many people shoved into too small of space with too few serving stations. There were long lines at the buffet with food continuously running out. The seafood area was shoved into the hallway alongside the same area where people were waiting in long lines. The dessert table had pies (in their original tins) with serving utensils shoved into the pies. It was a messy table with pies looking sad.Based on this experience, I will not go back to this “new and improved” hotel. What could have been done to improve this poor experience? My suggestions would include fewer reservations/people, more servers/waiters, more/better serving station placement, and overall better quality/service of food. But of course, that would have cut into their huge profits for the day!
I wish zero stars was an option. I had my daughters birthday party here and reserved a room months in advance. The check in line was an hour long (something Ive never seen before and I travel every) so we proceeded to the water park. Hours later, when we returned to check in around 8pm, we were told they were cleaning our room. Another employee confessed they did not have ANY rooms available, much less the suite I had booked, and that they overbook regularly and that we would not be getting a room that night. Ive never heard of a hotel doing this and will never be back.
Turned away for shelter during a tornado, quadruple-billed, dirty room, and had to get the bank to help get our money back. Honeymoon completely obliterated. Some things you can just never get back once theyre lost... life being among the greatest of value. The honeymoon a distant second.Weve been a part of Cherry Valley Lodges lifespan pretty-much since it opened as far as I know... about 15 years... bobbing in and out for stays or day trips to the water park. But it just seems that in the last couple of years, the staff has been the kind of rude the puts a gal in tears. Theres just no calling for condescension like CVL is getting well-known for displaying. Every interaction with the staff seems leave one walking away bruised and battered, even for the simple, benign interactions. The underlying loathing of the clients shows. Its enough to kill a business relationship when a hotel has horribly rude and arrogant staff gifted in the art of being sharp-tongued while so adeptly delivering the you piece of dog sh.. glare, and its enough to have had a stay charged FOUR times to our card, with every refund resulting in yet one more charge requiring our banks intervention more than a week later. But to have been repeat customers and be turned away during a terrible and frightening storm, puppy in arms, drenched in rain, while tornado sirens blare and a tornado was reported to have touched down just a mile away... to turn a girl away in desperate need of shelter, while masterfully delivering the condescending glare and tone that the shelter is for employees only is a whole new level of heartless inhumanity on its own. Have you not only allowed the hotel to run down into disrepair, but youve also let your humanity fall into disrepair as well? Appalled. Completely appalled. If it wasnt enough in the former alone, the latter sealed the deal. We will never visit Cherry Valley Lodge again. Not even a tornado on our heels will drive us to your doors.
Since they have only had a soft opening Im willing cut them a break. That being said the housekeeping staff needs to be retrained. Nothing was replaced....ie cops soap shampoo etc. Also no place to place clothes in shower other than back of commode. Restaurant staff was incredibly slow. It shouldnt take 2 hours for a table of 10 to be fed
Still clean, but the interior rooms are showing its age from when it opened in the mid 90s. Saw a sign in the lobby that they are planning on remodeling the interior. They are also under new ownership after closing down the indoor waterpark. There is a heated indoor pool. Also, there is no free continental breakfast either.
We visited Cherry Valley Lodge in June of 2015 and were VERY disappointed. This was our third stay here - visited twice many years ago - was nice back then. WE WILL NOT be back!!! The room needed many repairs (ie broken sliding door that was wedged closed, no sheets/pillows for pull-out couch, only two bath towels, carpeting felt damp, bed was sagging and lumpy); the water park was a HUGE disappointment! The student life guards just paced at their posts, one played with a plastic cup instead of watching kids on the tube slides and we witnessed several near misses with too many kids on the slide. The hot tub in the water park area wasnt even warm!!! The basketball and lily pad area was filthy - both around the pool and the pool water! PLUS, the water was frigid!!! Cocoa Key Water Park is in dire need of upgrades and maintenance. Now we know why reservations were easy to come by and the parking lot was empty!!!
Spend your money some where else!!! I have stayed in this hotel several times in the past. I even had my wedding and reception here. I have always been pleased, until now. Ever since new ownership, this place has gone downhill bad!!!! There is siding missing from the side of the building, our patio furniture was broken. The room smelled and the carpet was sticky and our ice machine was broken. I think our mattresses were from the 80s and our sheets were dirty and the air conditioning was horrible!! The hotel pool (not Cocoa Key) was dirty and the hot tub was broken. As if that wasnt enough.....they overcharged my credit card by over $60. I wont ever stay there again. So sad...
Swing and a miss. Went in to the so called Tap Room which is nothing but a normal hotel bar and waited 15 mins for service. After some grumbling by the host and delays, we got our drinks. Then trying to get a second round and once again the second rodeo it wait and see occurs. This place need management help and resources.
Third chance given to the lodge. First time several years ago, bed was extremely uncomfortable, wallpaper in room peeling off, and water park had poop scattered. When I brought to employees attention, they disregarded what I said. Second issue was a year later with maintenance needed to the garden area. Amazingly this time when we visited, all that I mentioned is still the same issue and the deck to our room had paint peeling, siding on the building coming off, restaurant menus were all worn and menu not updated. Bed extremely uncomfortable and I couldnt sleep at all. We ordered a two queen deluxe room and got two full size beds with the matresses being wavy and needing replaced. Doors to outside wont shut without slamming them shut. Pond extremely dirty in the garden area.
This was literally the worst experience I have ever encountered with a hotel in my life. After standing in line for over 3 hours we witnessed over 20 people returning to complain. They overbooked, had no clean rooms, gave out the same dirty room to 3 different guests, door keys would not work, and after our long wait with 3 exhausted children and myself being pregnant I wanted to cancel. No manager was around until hours later, no accommodations were made to correct this NOTHING. Just a huge line of miserable guests wanting their room they reserved to be cancelled. Now after finally seeing a manager hours later and cancelling we have not one charge but 2 on our card for $265 each. Now I continue to call and cannot get a manager on the phone. The people who work here are not helpful and have no clue what they are doing. Its sad and pathetic. If I could give a 0 star I would. Still waiting on my now double refund! I WOULDNT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO MY WORST ENEMY!
Rooms were supposed to be ready by 4pm. Waited in line over an hour to check in because of availability of the rooms. Got to the room and the a/c didnt work. It was 79 degrees in our room. Wanted some extra towels to take the kids to the pool and there were none available. At 8pm we got back from the pool and wanted to call front desk for towels and a/c issue but couldnt because neither phone in our room worked. One phone was missing most of the buttons on it. My wife went down to front desk to get towels and complain about the a/c not working again. A maintenance guy came to the room and got one phone working and told us to open the sliding door to the balcony to cool off the room. The balcony door didnt have a screen on it to keep out bugs or anything. The bed was horrible. Also while my wife was at the front desk she ran into someone who was in line with her at 4pm and found they still didnt have a room and it was after 8pm. Some people were told that the would not be given a room even though they had it reserved.
The lobby is great. The staff is absolutely amazing. The food is and restaurant is good. The only reason why there is a 4 is how the room is set up. The dresser is in a very odd place in the room. The dresser is in the middle of the room with a tv on the dresser. There is a bed that is actually behind this dresser with a narrow aisle.
Service at front desk was rude, we paid for executive suite and the room had a big bleach stain as soon as u open the door! The drop ceiling panels in bathroom falling apart, stained and looked awful, pull out couch/bed was a nightmare... asked for more pillows since we had 6 kids and 2 adults staying... with only 6 pillows in the room ( that was after requesting bedding for pull out and a roll away bed) was told they only had 4 left and had other guests... i found that to be rude considering each body couldnt have one pillow each! Then found only one remote to two tvs ( one in living room and one in bedroom) which was odd since kids wanted to watch tv in living room and we couldnt do the same in bedroom at same time... to top it off the jet tub a perk to paying $230 a night didnt work in our room i was completely disappointed with our stay, it wasnt worth the money honestly. Wont spend our money on it again! O and the gym didnt have working equipment!! This place has gone downhill over the past several years.
First of all kudos to the ladies behind the desk. After watching what they went through, they have completed the first phase of Navy Seal training. The abuse those ladies went through was amazing. People waited 4 hours for rooms and still found that they werent ready. Management was nowhere to be found and those ladies took the brunt. Now the review of the room:No A/C it was 80 degrees. We had to open the sliding door. No screen and the wonderful smell of cigarette smoke. The toilet didnt work correctly and the bathroom door didnt close. Also the door hit the toilet when attempting to close it.I found someone had left their earrings on the floor. This led me to believe that the room wasnt swept. The place was an arachnid lovers paradise. I looked at the ceiling and noticed several active spider webs. I guess thats ownerships way of compensating for not having a screen door and taking care of the rest of the bug issues. Problem solved/ Cost effective solution. From other reviews the air-conditioning issue is on going and the experience we had was not uncommon.I would challenge the owners to bring their families unannounced and spend the weekend. It would be eye opening.
During a more recent stay I left an expensive Sport Coat in my hotel room. I realized that evening my coat was not in my garment bag. I immediately called the Hotel and was pleased to learn that my Coat was found and had been set aside in the House Keeping Managers closet. Thanks to all involved in securing the return of my garment. I will always use your Hotel during my overnights in Newark.
We were not able to eat here. We were eager to however, there was no staff around to seat us nor any extra hands in the dining area. There was a man in the entrance but then he disappeared. Also, another couple walked out. It was Saturday afternoon at around 230 but this hardly seems reasonable to be short staffed IMO. But, were really looking forward to giving them another shot soon. Were rooting them on as they took the chance to revive Cherry Valley!
Was there for an work event. First thing I noticed was a very strong smell when I went to the area our event was in. This smell did not go away for the 2 days we were there. Wifi was horrible as it would go out about every 20 minutes. The room I was in had issues with some of the lights which were fixed when the front desk was called. Bed and bathroom were fine. VERY large shower/bath and bathroom area. When I entered my room, they had the temperature cranked up to about 90.
The outside of the place and lobby were beautiful! The hallways and rooms had a stench similar to an unkept nursing home. The room set up awful and had no sense of flow. Dirt clusters were in every corner. Carpet that was probably lovely years ago was now faded and dirty. We were locked into a second day. Housekeeping rehung damp dirty towels. Emptied one of two trash cans. They did not make beds, they did not clean the tub toilet or sink. When I told the front desk they appeared unfazed. This place is disgusting and has terrible service. NEVER NEVER NoNoNo!

2022-01-10We just love it here, like a mini vacation in Newark. We needed to get out of the house and enjoy New Year’s Eve with a kid-friendly atmosphere. We brought our own snacks, and the kids had a blast in the pool! Can’t wait for the restaurant/bar house to open more regularly, and the spa to open soon! Such a lovely place with king beds in every room. At LEAST double the room space as any other hotel, with the added bonus of a sectional/sleeper for more room and relaxing.

2022-06-05The hotel is very pretty. Our room was spacious, our bed was comfy. I wish it had a microwave in the room though. There seemed to be a staffing issues. The bars and restaurants were not up to full service. Our breakfast was the best meal there and our waitress was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely give this place another try.

2022-05-10The outside definitely needs some work but the rooms are recently remodeled and very clean. This is a 2 story building and very very long. Its a haul from 1 side to the other. The court yard is beautiful, but again, needs some landscaping. The pool is small, but clean. The breakfast buffet was very good. I would stay here again.

2022-04-18We spent the night after my mother-in-laws passing and funeral just to get away for the evening for some R&R. We have stayed here before and had just as relaxed of an experience then as we did this time. The room was clean and very comfortable for our family (2 kings and a pull out couch 2 adults and 4 children), the pool and hot tub were very refreshing, the restaurant was out of this world. All in all as a family, we needed this however I think in the future it will just be my wife and myself going for a getaway weekend without the kids 😉

2022-02-20Pros: Surprisingly spacious room and bathroom. Very clean and good sanitizing practices.Cons: Bathroom door doesnt stay closed and theres no lock. The bed frame sticks out quite a bit farther than the mattress -- we hit our shins several times off it.FYI-- there is not a free breakfast here. Theres a hot breakfast buffet offered on weekends only. $12.50 per person for adults (I dont know kid pricing). However, there is a pantry on site with a Starbucks.

2022-06-30All employees where great. Very nice and helpful. Its easy to get lost lol. Would be nice if there was more signage to help get to places. But the beds where amazing very soft and comfortable. Rooms very clean. The whole place was clean. Only negative things was the back pond needs some TLC and Mosquitos where horrible at the back pond too. One more thing the hot tub wasnt working either. But other then that family is already booking another stay 👍😁

2022-06-20The outside of the hotel is really nice. The courtyard is peaceful and relaxing with plenty of areas to chill and watch the ducks on the “pond”. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The ability to text the front desk was really nice and they were very responsive. The room was clean and had plenty of space. The restaurant food was great but slightly overpriced.Couple of cons:- The hallways of the hotel had a really bad fish-like odor. It was really uncomfortable to just walk to our rooms as the smell was overwhelming. As to the source of the smell, I’m not sure what it was but it existed on both floors of the hotel. My best guess was the dirty hallway carpet or the ice machines as they had brown stains running from underneath them. The smell went away in our room but we had to make sure to open and shut the door as quickly as possible otherwise it would start to come into our room.- the guest wifi really isn’t worth connecting to. If you want to stream any shows on Netflix, forget it. The tvs weren’t hard wired to the internet either. I can’t imagine what the download speeds would be like if the hotel was full. This wouldn’t be a problem but there is zero cell phone service in the hotel room (Verizon) so you can’t use your phone without Wi-Fi- There’s very little noise cancelling. When people walk by the door, it sounds like they’re in your room.- No food room service available and if you want to have food delivered to your room (think a pizza guy), hotel policy says they can’t deliver to your door and you have to go to the lobby. Not a big deal but I’ve never stayed at a hotel with this policy.- At $200+ a night in Newark Ohio, it’s a little much for what you get.

2022-02-15The first night there was NO hot water just ice cold.... The boilers werent working right I get things happen then the next day had to switch rooms bc we couldnt get the shower to work correctly in our room maintenance came and checked on it and was told it was probably the way it was installed. The pool was nice alittle cold for a heated pool but clean the hot tub was hot but jets didnt work also was clean. The workers were all friendly. I do wish it went better this was a pre-run for our options as a hotel/venue for our up coming wedding
