Quaint Italian restaurant in the middle of Hartville, Ohio! Weve lived in Canton for over forty years and never noticed this place on Edison St. (Rt 619), but we went in for curiosity. The establishment is a converted house and full of woodwork. It has a big mural in the back dining area. The spaghetti was good, the salad was good and the garlic bread was warm when it got to us. The service was friendly and helpful and the restrooms were clean. I will be going back!
Pizza was always good. However my last stop in my pizza was a little off. The pizza was Cooked fine ect. But the toppings where like half the size of what they were the last time. Was highly disappointed . Guy behind the counter said the toppings where under the cheese. They were not. Wasnt going to argue about. Taste was great but for the amount of money I shelled out I was disappointed.20 bucks for a pie an topping small an lots of cheese. The meat madness pizza used to be packed with meat. You could see the toppings. I also had picture proof. They lied to me saying thats how they always looked. When I showed them my pizza from the last time . They didnt want to talk to me anymore. When someone is right they are right. The pizza now is a 1/3 of what it used be.I also dont know if this place is under new management or what. But something seems different about this place. Been going here for years about 3 to 4 times a year. Right after the major holidays at hartville flea market , over 10 years now, an we always get the same thing. Always left happy. Probably will have to find a new spot after a long day at flea market as a vendor.I might give them another shot.
If youre sitting there reading tons of reviews and trying to decide where to eat, and youve stumbled on my review, youre in luck. Ive decided for you! Come here! Carlos is fantastic in all aspects. The food is phenomenal, the prices and daily specials are bar none, staff is the nicest and most considerate youll find.5 star food, service, prices, and environment. You wont regret eating here!
I ate here with a group of 10 after church on a Sunday afternoon, they were busy with the after church crowd. It did take some time for our orders to get taken but that’s my only real complaint. We were seated quickly and had good service, the food was very good and came relatively quickly. I order gnocchi which was really satisfying and came with a side of soup, which I was pleasantly surprised about. I had stuffed pepper soup, it was so good I wish I could go back and get some as a full meal. There seemed to be a lot of regulars who knew the staff which is a great sign.
More food than you can eat. Good prices and the food was good. I had a toddler in tow and an infant in a car seat and the place was a little difficult to navigate with its slender walkways. I would guess this used to be a house that was changed into a restaurant. Pretty though.
We love going here, but dont live in Hartville any more so is not so often anymore unfortunately. But when we get the chance we stop in. Great service and fresh homemade food. Had cheesy balls perfect for the Keto diet. Son had a kids pizza which was homemade and delicious, way better than your pizza joints and for similar price. Ive had the Stromboli in the past which was amazing but did not indulge this time.
Dined In. Well staffed at a time when restaurants face challenges adding and maintaining staffing levels. Went for lunch and had the Carlos Melt Italian Sub with Fries & Coleslaw followed with a cannolo (singular of cannoli); I had one chocolate chip cannolo with coffee for dessert. I will definitely return for dinner and to take out cannoli ( as in plural, more than one cannolo) My waitress told me some people have come in to take out 20 cannoli for a party. A good cannolo is hard to find. Now I know where to go for a good cannolo.
Wow. We were THRILLED with our meal. In the past we hadnt had the best service or food. The food was bland and staff acted like we inconvenienced them for being there. I read similar reviews, then reviews that were the complete opposite, so I decided to try Trattoria one more time. I think they must have really taken the online feedback to heart, bc my experience was a complete 180 from before. We had lasagna, which tasted absolutely AMAZING. Only thing I would tweak would be to drain the pasta better. The wedding soup was hands down the best Ive ever had. The caprese salad was delicious with fresh mozerella, and even the once tasteless garlic bread was now yummy. The meal was a bit pricey, but the portions were large so we had enough to two days of dinner. Our server was smiling, went above and beyond, and was extremely kind. I could not be happier with our experience, we will definitely be back!!
We did call ahead seating last night, were told the wait was about 45 minutes which was perfectly fine with us. We arrived about 35 minutes later (we were a party of 8 with 3 children ages 4,3,2) went into the restaurant and were told, very rudely by a young lady, that we needed to wait outside or in our cars until exactly 7:15pm when our table was ready because that was our reservation time. The funny thing is that we were never told to arrive at 7:15, we were told the wait was approximately 45 minutes. When we walked in the front door, their was plenty of room to hang out for 10 minutes until our table was ready so that we didn’t have to load 3 small children back up into the car. My husband and I both were shocked with how short and rude the waitress was, she basically threw us out of the restaurant. We do enjoy it at Carlo’s, really enjoy the food, have had parties there, etc but I’m not sure we will be back after our encounter last night. There really is no reason/excuse to treat customers like that.
Delicious meatball melt with fries. We pulled in to the parking lot and it looked completely full but when we walked inside there were several tables that were open. It was a pleasant surprise that we walked straight in and got a table. The food was really good as well as the service for as busy as they were.
Yesterday was our first time trying carols. I drive by it all the time, but never stopped until yesterday 6/13/21. I’m so glad I did! The food was amazing and still hot when I got it home, and the young man was such a gentleman! The white pizza was so yummy! I can’t wait to take my mom and dad here in the near future and dine in!
I have never had such a terrible experience going to a restaurant, My wife and I drove a half an hour getting there. We arrived at the restaurant at 3:10. We were met at the door by some young guy who said we arent seating anyone until 4. We could see that there were a lot of empty tables. He never gave us an explanation or anything. The only thing he said was didnt you see the sign on the Door what a rude kid. We left and went to Lembos, which was a better choice. At least hey let us in. I will never go back to Carlos again.
Very nice has been a while since we have been out due to Cov.19. Really nice to feel at home in the neighborhood. Windows were wide open, to let in fresh air. Was a warm evening good to see them using common sense of the day to clean the air. Food very good as always. The Bread is outstanding.
First time here as we live out of town but travel to Hartville market often. The food was delicious, from the salad and garlic rolls severed with a bowl of melted butter, to the chicken parmesan and pasta dishes. The meatballs were tender and flavored to perfection. Being Italian I never order pasta but this place nailed it. Our server was friendly and on point with getting whatever we needed. Even my three year old grandson wouldnt stop eating which being a picky eater said it all. Good work Carlos Trattoria, we will be back each time we travel to Hartville. Thank you! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Sat us right under a air conditioner that made nothing but noise with the whole back open where we could have sat away from it, Pour an Italian restaurant on your salad you get 3 black olives 3 pepper rings and one little slice of tomato no cheese no onions no nothing, We was supposed to have garlic toast with our meals did not taste any garlic and the bread was burnt. Not everybody likes marinara sauce if you want to meat sauce it was a lot extra, will not be visiting again, Was an old lady sitting at the bar visiting with them plays complaining about everything and everybody, you go eat thats the last thing you want to sit and hear.
1st time there, good food, great portions and a very friendly waiter. The staff smiled and apparently they had a lot of repeat customers because I heard the waiters and waitresses calling folks by their 1st names. The terrimussu or however you spell it was the best Ive had in awhile. Will definitely go back.
Ive been here previously and loved the experience. This time I think there was someone new in the kitchen - our pizza didnt seem to be fully cooked. The crust was fairly blonde and the veggies were practically raw. On the upside, the flavors were still good. And I must mention that I love their Date Night deal for Friday and Saturday evenings! Well still be back.
I would love to support a small family business in these difficult times, but was unable today. They wouldn’t allow our family of 6 to come in & dine without masks. I did state we all have medical exemptions, but they still refused entry by stating they had nothing available for us, even though 1/2 the restaurant was empty & were originally going to seat us. According to the governors mask mandate, mask exemptions are allowed in businesses. I’ll be sharing this with others so they can make an informed choice as to where they spend their hard earned money.
We were in the neighborhood, so we thought wed try someplace new. While the service was fast and friendly, the food was very disappointing. The house dressing was nothing more than oil (Id guess canola) and red wine vinegar. No seasoning or anything to punch it up and add flavor. The salad could also use some cheese.I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs definitely tasted frozen and prefabricated. Not homemade at all. The sauce was completely bland. Definitely needed garlic (as did the garlic bread).
We love this restaurant but today was a big disappointment... ordered 4 mini rolls to go. Said 20 minutes get there and they forgot to put in our order, so we waited another 20 minutes then get home to eat and they are raw... so now waiting for my oven to heat up to finish cooking. Ugh what a disappointment!!!
This was a great place to eat. Nice quiet atmosphere. Wasnt packed, which surprised me for a Fri night. I got the chicken alfredo. The chicken wasnt very good, tasted like plain frozen chicken. So i didnt eat the chicken, but the noodles & sauce were good! My husband got the manicotti, the filling was on the sweet side, but still good. We both got a side salad, it was pretty plain, so would prob skip that next time. We also got a pizza, which was the best part of the meal! Even the next day was still just as good! Looking forward to eating here again to try something different!
Only my second time to Carlos and I already cant wait to go back. I had the pizza the first time which I would totally recommend but I wanted to branch out and tried the pasta which I can now comfortable endorse as well. Everything I have tried has been yummy and I cant wait to get to try something else on my next visit.
Great Food! Definitely worth a visit!Wonderful family run Italian restaurant. Beats the pants off the chain Italian restaurant. We had not stopped into Carlos for a while, so it was a treat to have dinner there again. As always the food was great. Our family opted to not have one of their fantastic large pizzas, really, really big for a family of four. Instead we each had a different dish of their Italian specialties. Mannacotti, Chicken Alfredo, Spaghetti with Meatball and Pasta with Alfredo sauce. All were served with salad and their homemade bread. The kicker for me was the homemade Stuffed Pepper soup. I think I could have had that as a meal. Rich tomato sauce with meat over rice. It was fantastic. We promise not to stay away so long again. We would be missing out on this fantastic family run dining spot. Definitely worth a stop while you are near Hartville.
The place has a rep with the locals for good Italian fare. Being that I love Italian, I have tried this place several times. The food is decent with good sauces and dough. The service though has been horrible 4 of the 6 times I can say I have been there. Maybe its because I am from the city, but I live here now and I drive out of town for my Italian cravings.
The garlic bread looked good. Meatballs and sauce were just average. I ordered a Cobb salad which I couldnt eat, sent back, and left. The chicken was grossly overcooked. The blue cheese tasted moldy. And the waitress just wanted to argue with me.I will never be back. Nor would I recommend this restaurant.
Terrible experience. Server was very rude. & food was less than average. Had to ask for refills multiple times & it took forever to get them. Once we were ready to cash out we had left no tip in the card as we were leaving cash. $6 to be exact on a $20 tab. As the server walked away from our table she very loudly stated to another employee “oh wow she left me $1...like do you want us to even cook your food next time?” Definitely will not be back.
I like to eat here when Im in Hartville. The people are great, prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is small town relaxed and theres no waiting in line. The food is very good, though Id like to see a better side salad, which consisted of iceberg lettuce with a tomato wedge, 2 olives and a few slices of banana peppers. The house Italian dressing is delicious though. I havent tried a dessert but they look delicious.
Food was excellent. Service not so much. Our waitress seemed to busy elsewhere to check on us. Had to ask for drink refills. Got all you can eat pasta and wasnt offered more, and when we asked she acted like we were definitely bothering her. Asked for parmesan cheese. She never brought it. Asked another worker and she brought it right away.
Ive eaten here three times and it has yet to impress me. Their pizza is extremely greasy. Their pasta is watery and bland. The ravioli, gnocchi and meatballs appear to be frozen rather than homemade. The service was below average. The prices are a little high for the quality. We wont be going back. Very disappointed.
Owner/management were jerks. I got a terrible meal and after the server put it down no one was by to check on me so by the time I saw a employee to let them know I was unsatisfied I had eaten the parts that were decent (meatballs). So the Owner I believe comes out tells me I ate my meal and he can’t help me. I just wanted something good that I’d enjoy instead of soggy wet noodles that never got strained and watered down pasta sauce. Never going back. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!
Just came here for the first time and we were told the Stromboli was the most popular dish. We got it and some spaghetti dishes but it came out with raw dough I thought I was eating a really cheesy part but then I Took a closer look. I sent it back and they put it in the oven for maybe four minutes and it came back again completely raw the guy must have had no idea what I meant when I sent it back with Raw. Ugh. Cannolis were good and homemade the sauces are also homemade but the spaghetti although says fresh is not homemade and the meatballs are also not homemade. Cute place though too bad we won’t be back.
Honestly you could stay home and make better food than what is served here. This place is sadly nothing special. They have the potential to be a great restaurant but they just need to cook fresh homemade food. The food here is store bought and then just haphazardly put together. I ordered a Turkey Avocado Club. The Avocado was not ripe and nothing tasted good about this sandwich.
Good food and I like that they now serve wine but the staff is unfriendly and service is terrible. I have been here numerous times and not once have I been greeted with a smile. I went in with my daughters, ages 4 and 10 and whom were VERY hungry- we were seated and then waited 15 minutes before leaving to go eat at Pizza Hut because no one bothered to wait on us. It was as if we were invisible! It was nearly impossible for us to go unnoticed because we sat in the booth across from the check out, my youngest was hungry and started to complain about it. Its quite disappointing because I really do enjoy the food but for a family-owned restaurant they sure dont make you feel like family... Or even a valued customer!
This is my absolute favorite casual Italian restaurant. They have the perfect blend of casual dishes, like pizza sandwiches and stromboli, and full pasta meals, garlic bread included obviously. If you like cheese, please try the calzones. Its pumped full of ham, mozzarella, and creamy ricotta filling and its a cheese lovers dream, served with a dish of their house made marinara for dipping. Im sure you can also get them without the ham for my vegetarian friends. Warning: you definitely cant finish one in a sitting, theyre huge. If pasta is more your speed, they have fantastic gnocchi. They also have spumoni ice cream, which is a must of you havent had it before. The atmosphere is also fantastic, and the place is super well kept up and clean. Better than the Hartville Kitchen ANY day.
Wee have been here several times since we live in Hartville and due to the rudeness tonight we will not be back. Have always had good service. Tonight I had a young server wait on us and she was rude to me. My husband ordered a speciality pizza, no bacon. She told him he couldnt change it, we did not care if it was the same price. He can not eat bacon. She rolled her eyes at me and snatched the menu from my hand. She proceeded to not come back and check on any refills, served me last which I can only assume because she was speaking with me and gave me dirty looks the rest of the ordeal. To top it off there was a long hair in my food coincidence or not I have blonde hair. Sadly I do not recommend this place.
Have been going to Carlos for years. We have learned that you have to be patient with the staff. Some times the service is excellent and just as often the service is absolutely horrible. I have learned that ordering extra sauce on your pizza or on the side is on occasion a dreadful thing to do. I ordered a take out pizza last year with extra sauce and had to argue to get it. When I got home I found that the pizza had NO sauce at all and had to drive another 16 miles to have it remade and still got an argument about extra sauce. Same for in house orders. At times they lavish on the sauce and at times you have to practically beg or threaten. All that being said the food is always better then good and often wonderful. There is plenty of it and the prices while not cheap are tolerable. My advice is to get take out and watch out for the manager (I cant remember her name) she does not like questions and most of the time does not like customers.Carlo is usually welcoming and friendly.Ill keep going back but at times I wonder why.
I have eaten here quite a few times over the years and have grown to love their Big F white pizza, although not sure why it is named the way it is. It has a nice laid-back, family-owned atmosphere. Their prices arent amazing, but they certainly dont empty the wallet. I love Italian food and their stromboli is the best I have had anywhere, hands down. Another review talked about poor service, which I can also attest to. More than once there has been a significant wait for our food with what seems to be a mostly empty restaurant. However, the food is good enough to warrant stopping in every few months. A nice, original, family-owned Italian restaurant.
Seating is always a problem there and just walked out due to the rudeness of the waitress at us for wanting a table instead of a booth and she kept replying “ there getting ready to close that section down” is all she kept saying !! Why would you add a patio if you can’t sit out there or anywhere for that damn matter! Happens every time we go here so we will not be back!! Damn shame too had really good food but not that good to put up with the BS of freaking seating !!!!!
I ate there tonight. First, it is a house turned restaurant. We left within 10 minutes of our food coming. The pasta is not drained because my plate looked like pasta on top of soup. My fiance ordered the Alfredo (which is supposed to be creamy) when she brought it he said its really watery. She said oh. I will take it back and drain some of the water off of it. Obviously not the correct way. Also they have a bunch of teens working in back. I would not recommend anyone going there to eat whatsoever. If I give this place 0 stars I would.
For fast food, this place was good. When i compare it with the other McDonalds in the area, its one of the better ones. At a chain fast food place you know what you should be getting. Here the service was great and the good was hotand tasted like it should. Thats whati want when i go fast food.
Food was good. I had the chicken parmigiano. Big serving of chicken. Almost too much. Breading was light and crunchy. Just the way it should be. Side of spaghetti comes with the dish. Pasta cooked nicely but the sauce was a bit bland. This was served with a side salad. Basic iceberg lettuce, a few pepperoncini, some olives and a tomato wedge. As came with 2 pieces of garlic bread.
Quite possibly one of the best Italian restaurants in the Canton/Alliance/Hartville area. You cant go wrong with their stromboli! Also my inner Ben Wyatt came out of me and I ordered a calzone and you can tickle me impressed. Pizza is definitely the best of Hartville, its pretty luxurious.
Too many times I rush a meal. Today I just needed to sit and relax which is exactly what I can do at Carlos. The Antipasto is excellent and the Stromboli was amazing! Because I ordered a small (which is not) I have lunch packed for tomorrow. Im always treated right and seating is comfortable.
Our sever was terrible. Had to ask two or 3 times for everything. She didnt check on us, our food, or refill our drinks !! She was unfriendly and rude. I finally had to go to the counter and ask for coffee. Then she got snooty !! I only got a salad, so cant say much about that. I had stopped going there because of service and every time I got pasta there was water in the bottom of my bowl !! Wont be going back !!Thanks, Kari Cardelein5/31/2017
Olive garden who? The food here is way better its without a doubt the best pizza I have ever had. If youre a first timer I recommend sitting in a booth where you can see into the kitchen because the kitchen staff is very entertaining, its dinner and a show. Mohawks and purple hair, dancing to the backstreet boys or Katy perry I quite enjoy myself. Ten outta ten!!
Wish i could give less then one star this place is HORRIBLE. The waitress made it very clear she had no want to deal with customers (which is obviously her job!) was rude the whole time. We had order a pizza and after she left we looked under and it was burnt like black! We werent going to complain we were just going to get are check and leave however she never came back to give us are check and completely avoided us and we were the only one in the restraunt so finally we got up to go get the bill after telling her the pizza was burnt she argued with us and even went over and got the pizza and contiued arguing she ended up handed it to the guy in the back while screaming this pizza is supposedly burnt! and the guy in the back said while laughing WHATEVER you dont do that when a customer is standing right there ive worked in food service for a while and if my boss would see me act like that i would be fired and then she went to give us are check for the salads which we gave her a twenty for she couldnt figure out the change and threw the 20 back at us and said nevermind and walked away. Theyve forever lost my buisness and i will make it known to my friends and church that we no longer support this establishment due to horrible service.
Employees @ Carlos Trattoria seriously need to take a customer service training course. The restaurant closes at 9pm on Tuesday evenings. I called at 830 to place a pick up order for two large pizzas and was told that they are not making pizzas anymore tonight. When I questioned why that was I was given a very blasé attitude answer of “we shut our ovens off for the night”. When I explained my disservice with her attitude and lack of customer service (closing at 9 but stoping pizza orders at 8:30) the young lady on the phone told me that “no one else does”.This is the second bad customer service experience I have had at this restaurant. I will not be giving them an opportunity to have a third. You would think with all the restaurants popping up in Hartville that their customer service will get better. I will never step foot or order from Carlos Trattoria ever again.
Went for pizza tonight..waiter 1st off got drink order wrong..not a big deal..order salad and pizza..pizza came out fairly reasonable time..notice pizza was not hot..but crust was overly done on the bottom..eat 1 piece then noticed pizza was not done, doughy. Told server, he said he could put back in oven..ok..still doughy, instead of just offering to make new..he asked if we wanted anything else..then he discounted pizza. $10.00.Had to argue with him that we werent going to pay for pizza that wasnt done..we ate 2 pieces out of a 13 pizza. We ordered pizza with works..extra cheese..pretty common order..very dissappointed..we have had pizza several times before..not anymore.
Great bottled beer but dont let them cook for you it sucks unless you like raw french fries just order the stuff that comes out of a can or premade. Waitresses suck gotta raise your hand for a beer thought i was in school again. Overall id rather put instant oats in used bath water
We have ate in house many times with no issues, but last night we picked up on way home from work, get food home sit down to eat our 30.00 meal of 2 dinners and my handfull of pasta had no chicken in it with some butter - $12.00 the salad had house dressing in it which i didnt get asked what kind i wanted when i placed my order.- perfer ranch So since we live 20 min away i call and tell them they forgot to put chicken in it and she says yes they did i said no maam there is no chicken, she says okay then just bring it back and get another very rude like i did something wrong , no im sorrys nothing. I asked for the manager to be told there wasnt one !!! Now im mad because of the rudeness , my 11 year old granddaughter and i go back up there and EVERY employee ( a bunch of young kids, guys with double ear piercings etc) in the place was standing there arms crossed looking at me like again i had did something wrong. I said to them really your all waiting for me to come in? ok now while your all here and having nothing better to do tell me if you would pay 12.00 for that food and have to drive back up here to get it right. They said nothing , the girl slide my container of hot new food across the counter at me in no bag so when i asked for a bag so i didnt get burnt on the hot bottom she threw it at me, at this point every costumer that was eating inside was staring . I walked out and my granddaughter says to me gramma i wouldnt eat that if i was you they probably spit in it or something geezz that was rude . I said i no but trust me we wont be back..
We tried to go here to get pizza at 8:15pm. We walked in, and the workers stared at us with no greeting at all. When we told them how many people we would have, the server rudely said you know we close at 9 and walked away. I have never been treated so poorly at a restaurant and will not be back.

2022-01-04A coworker recommended this place for lunch and he was right. Stopped here twice for lunch and it was very good food. Fresh vegetables and fresh made to order food. The place is clean (They could do better in the restroom maybe some Lyson or Pinesol), the staff are very nice and they make sure you are taken care off. Highly recommend this place for a good Italian food experience and their soup of the day at worth a try.

2021-12-09Placed a to-go order, first time customer. Arriving at the restaurant I feel I went back in time a decade or two and someone took me to the friendliest place on earth! Quaint, clean, adorable, I cannot wait to come in for dinner!

2022-03-16We were told to look for a house...it had the best Italian food! Carlos didnt disappoint! We tried The Carlo sub and salad and The Italian meatball sandwich which came with crispy French fries and the most delicious coleslaw! The meatball sandwich came loaded with 5 whopping Italian meatballs, tomatoes sauce and cheese and it was fantastic served on a delicate homemade bread. The French fries were seasoned and crispy and the show topper was the creamy coleslaw which had crisp cabbage infused into a sweet yet tart sauce! The Carlo signature sub came with lots of salami, ham, provolone cheese toasted on their Italian hoagie bun and topped with lettuce, tomatoes and special sauce...YUMMY! For dessert we tried the chocolate mousse cake and it was so light and creamy and shouted Heaven in each bite! Oh dear, we want more!!

2022-02-06Reading recent reviews, since i havent had it since i was younger, decided to place a decent order. Chicken alfredo....chicken was dry, rubbery and tasteless. Didnt even eat it. Noodles tasted good. The italian dressing that came with the salad, garbage. The big f pizza......tasteless, burnt to a crisp. The Stromboli was 7 out of 10. Was better 20 years ago but enjoyable. For the $90, yes $90 spent half of it got pitched because it was horrible, but hungry people forced it down. Surely wont be trying it again. Money wasted.

2021-05-28Very fast service and food was out very quick! Booths are very narrow so if you need some room I suggest asking for a table instead of a booth. The cheesy bread appetizer was very good!! Toasted to perfection! Their sauce is delicious! Just got spaghetti so nothing too special, but the red sauce tasted great! Our server was very polite and made conversation instead of just quickly taking our order. All our food was out in ten minutes or less. Overall a great experience.

2022-02-09Classic little Italian place. Very simple but tasty food. Very busy for a random Wednesday night. If youre looking for decent portions at a great price, you cant pass this place up. We had 1 app for the table of 5, 2 non water drinks and got out for under 80 before tip with 2 take home boxes!

2022-06-27If you love ricotta cheese, you will go crazy over their Calzone! Yum! Great pizza too! Support small businesses. This is a tasteful way to start!

2022-06-12My mom worked there when she was 16 and took me there a week ago. The staff was really friendly, the food was fantastic, the food didnt take too terribly long to prepare, and it was an overall enjoyable experience.
