The TuesCrew oh Ohio TuesDayTrips decided that in honor of the Super Tuesday primaries, we would do a political based trip. We chose to tour the Ohio Statehouse and had a wonderful time. The interior of the Statehouse is beautiful. The WOW-Moments were the marble map of Ohio in the floor and the dome room. The senate chamber was really cool as well.If you have not been, the tour is free and it is well worth a trip. It’s a very good experience for children. We toured at the same time as some middle school students who already knew quite a bit about Ohio history.
With God ALL things are POSSIBLE. Praying for peace, love, faith, and hope to reign in our city. There is so much divisiveness. May equity exist in the heart of those in legislature, city officials, and our communities so we can have a harmonious city, state, and nation.
So the capitol was renovated in 1996. NOTHING has changed since then. Its like God came in and said the statehouse must look like this forever! To me, holding the building to an 1865 àsthetic is ok, but why should I ever come back to the halls of graft? At least the riffe center has art that changes quarterly. Our guide was nice and fairly knowledgeable. You cant go up in the rotunda. Fun to see once unless youre protesting something or a politik.
My daughter and I really enjoyed our quick, spontaneous trip to the Capitol. The building is so beautiful and inspiring, especially the rotunda. The basement has a great museum area and gift shop and the grounds are perfect for a picnic. There are guided and self guided tours available. As expected, there was security at the door who were very polite and professional.
Very cool buildingParking however can be a nightmare. This is of course where all the state politicians come to discuss and vote on issues of the state. The only renovations that have been done have been to preserve the original architecture I do believe. It does get a little hot in there, and sometimes a little cold.
Really fun place to visit if you love local history, or if youre just interested. It was awesome to learn so much about ohio, especially not being from here. The tour was really cool, full of extra little facts. Overall, its definitely worth visiting once. Its a family friendly, educational outing too!
Good the guided tour around the building. We had taken the tour some years ago. This time we got new information about the history of the place. We got to visit the chambers and walked inside the commissions room. Everytime we visit the site is on a Sunday, so there is very little people around.
Went to meet a group. The Square is well kept. It is demoralizing to see the windows still boarded up in the Statehouse. The artwork on the other side of the streets is still beautiful, but it is time to be taken down and allow to allow all of the square to heal and get back to looking healthy.
This is the location of the Ohio State House. It houses the Ohio House Of Representatives and Ohio Senate, as well as the ceremonial office of the Governor. You can visit and tour for free, but calling or emailing ahead is a good idea. The tour will cover a lot of history of both the State and the facility. The outside grounds are amazing. The State does a great job of maintaining the premises in immaculate condition, and we can be proud of our public facility!
I do not know how you review a State Capitol, but I was there for Youth in Government multiple times and it is very functionable, beautiful, accessible, and historical and you can have events held in the Capitol. Can not really complain about anything except that it can sometimes take awhile to get in the Capitol during Youth in Government, but that is only annual and nothing major that would prevent events and what not. A great Capitol over all.
In the center of downtown Columbus, capital square is a large patio area that is right next to the Capital of Ohio and the surrounding history monuments. For parking, there is street parking nearby or numerous garages situated all around. The Columbus Commons Park is also nearby.
Great place to learn about the rich history of Ohio. Tied with Virginia as having the most Presidents of any other state. Also has tributes to the astronauts that went to the moon, John Glenn in particular. A great place to take your family and learn about the history of Ohio.

Backpacks are allowed in the Ohio Statehouse and are allowed once again in the secure area of the Vern Riffe Center for Government and the Arts [which is most of the building] because there are now metal detectors and X-ray machines at the security checkpoint at the Riffe Center. The no backpacks rule at the Riffe Center had ended on January 2, 2018 after having been in effect for the previous several years. All visitors to the secure area of the Riffe Center must present an ID at the desk across the lobby from the High St. entrance; a staff member will photocopy that ID and will place the copy of the ID inside of a plastic name tag which the visitor must wear while inside of the Riffe Center.I mention this here because many people who visit their Ohio Senators in the Ohio Statehouse also visit their Ohio Representatives in the Riffe Center and may want to know about this different security procedure at the Riffe Center before arriving at the security checkpoint. The Ohio Statehouse does not require that visitors present an ID.
The sublime historic and archaeological wonder that is the Ohio Statehouse is inversely proportional to much of the unproductive crowd that infuses the current fringe politics inside the building. Regardless dont miss touring the inside and the outside of the Statehouse. Dont miss these memorials: These Are My Jewels Statue - NW corner. Ohio Black Laws Marker - NE corner. Ohio Veterans Memorial - E boundary. Holocaust Memorial - S boundary. Arresting!
The dining prevails here, as it is a sort of hub for many adjoining districts including the Arena District, Short North, the Brewery District, Columbus Commons and more. Capital Square is a bit classy while accommodating nearly any stages or interests/levels of commerce.

2019-06-15Stopped at the capital just to get pennies smashed in the machine in the basement. Very interesting building additionally. Take note that the parking garage under the building is extremely low. My F-150 nearly scrapped the ceiling.
