Cafe Tandoor in other cities:
I’ve been here several times and have always had a very enjoyable experience! The food is delicious and they have a nice selection of vegan and vegetarian options, which is unfortunately still hard to come by in restaurants in Northeast Ohio, even at Indian restaurants.. My mom gets meat dishes and she really enjoys those too! So there is something great for everyone.
Got our take-out home and no rice. Called them and they said we didnt order rice. Ive never had mater paneer or chicken korma without rice. Do NOT order the korma chicken....its awful! Bland boiled chicken in a white sauce without any spice or any flavor what so ever. Probably wont order here again. Very disappointing.
I was so happy to discover there was a location close by, since this was my favorite place to go when I lived in Cleveland Heights! Our dinner was great, had plenty of options for me (a vegetarian), as well as my meat-loving husband! The samosas and pakora are amazing, and the cocktails are strong and fruity! Definitely going back as soon as i get the chance!!
I have eaten Indian food around the world and visited Cafe Tandoor probably 30+ times. Has always been the best Indian food in Northeast Ohio IMO. New owners have done a good job with the decor, luckily the chefs have not changed. Food is extremely good and importantly its consistently good. Do miss the old owners a lot because we became very friendly. Hope new management keep up the excellent standards!
This is not authentic Indian food. Very bland dishes that are served luke warm. Server also brought my bill before I had a chance to order a dessert. The place is fancy as its in Aurora, but that where it ends. I dont recommend eating here if you are used to eating Indian food with flavor.
Not sure how this place has such a high rating. I was in town and hungry. I decided to take my friend for Indian food. It was horrible. We got chicken Tikka and lamb qorma, 2 very traditional North Indian dishes. They were miserable. Absolutely terrible.Qorma has a fried onion and yogurt base and ends up being a lovely rich brown color. This qorma was a pale khaki color! And it tasted nothing like real qorma. The Tikka masala was also crazy disappointing. The naan was alright. The prices were high. The place was clean. But the food was unappetizing. I would never go there again. The people raving about this restaurant either do not have a North Indian palate or got lucky with dishes I didnt try. Save your money and go elsewhere.
The best Indian food I have had in US!!! They make the naans in charcoal based choolah (oven) which taste super awesome and is exactly like what you get in India. Also the traditional Shajahani chicken was delicious. They absolutely know how to bring in that essence of Authentic Indian food in their dishes. Loved it totally!!
Would not recommend. Ordered the butter chicken and although the chicken was done on the skewer as expected, the sauce was totally bland and tasted like campbells tomato soup, with no spices. Sizzling lamb dish was ok. Overall food was bland and needs more spice. Will not be going back.
I found an amazing family-run Indian place while attending Syracuse University and fell in love with Indian food. While I knew this place was the best in Syracuse I didnt realize how hard it would be to find Indian of the same quality here in Ohio. So we tried Cafe Tandoor (in Aurora) for my mothers birthday and this is my honest review having intermediate Indian food experience. First we ordered the vegetarian mixed platter for an appetizer that had ONE each of a samosa, vegetable, onion & paneer pakoras. This item was $8.50 and extremely underwhelming in taste and amount. The pakoras were completely bland and under-seasoned with no flavor or spice, the veggie pakora was especially disappointing since this is the pakora you expect to have the most seasoning of the three. The only redeeming element was the samosa which was large, seasoned well and filled generously. I ordered the Shajahani Curry, which was some-what flavorful but completely lacked spice, Im use to and expect my curries to make my mouth water and sinuses clear! My mother ordered the chicken Shahi Korma which was a strange light-beige color, a sure sign of under seasoning/spicing and sure enough was not a true curry experience (she liked it, though her experience with Indian is zero). My sister ordered the paneer Tikka Masala which was the same level of taste as my Shajahani. The garlic naan was dry and again...lacked flavor, couldnt even tell there was garlic present. I prefer a nice, soft, stretchy naan with whole crushed garlic cloves on top, this was dry and flavorless as though it had sat, uncovered in an oven to keep warm for a while. I absolutely LOVE mint/green chutney so I ordered a side of it for $2 the amount to which equaled maybe a quarter cups worth, though it was good. Which leads me to the prices. The curry dishes are served A-la-cart style which translates to small dishes of curry ranging from $12-$14 NOT INCLUDING RICE. You read that correctly, rice is NOT included in this price, you order it separately and its brought out on a large plate (one served 3 of use with a bit left over). This curry was not worth the price tag.Long story short: Flavors are severely dulled down for the American palate, not true curry and the prices are absolutely inflated for a small meal that doesnt even include rice. I wont be returning for another expensive, dull-curry experience.
Expensive and small portions. The butter chicken dish tasted like tomato paste, while the lamb korma was more like canned cream soup. Samosas, while large, were burned and the shells very hard. The meat variety was bland while the vegetarian option was flavorful. The garlic naan was ok, though expensive for the size if the order. We found a balled up dirty sweater underneath our table ( at the end of June mind you ), who knows how long it had been there.
Love this place... never had a bad experience until tonight! The green peppers and onions were charcoal black and baingan bharta was way too spicy, before I even left I was in the bathroom throwing up! Will I come back? Yes! However I will stick with the tried-and-true and not order dishes Im not familiar with. With that being said the baingan bharta is something I order all the time this time was the first time I ever detected any type of spice AKA Heat... Never want to experience that again!
Worst Experience! They have lot of menu items & I ordered a common one from the menu.. the curry was awaful! they used some liquid to create the gravy & the chicken was so frozen! charged $14 for that..never enter here, or ask them what is there fresh to eat!cheap indian guys!
Ive been eating at Café Tandoor in Aurora for over a decade. It is one of the best restaurants in town. Prices are not low, but are reasonable for the amount of food and its quality; an entrée, order of bread, and appetizer yields enough for a second meal at home after a satisfying dinner in the restaurant. The Tandoori Salmon is particularly good and the Biryanis provide heaping portions of meat, vegetables, and rice, all well spiced. The aloo paratha and onion kulcha are also very tasty and well-prepared. Over the years, service has been somewhat up and down, but the last several times Ive eaten there the staff did a fine job.
The new management is clueless if it can only be called management. No one is in charge and youre lucky if anyone comes to your table 30 minutes after you arrive. A table of 6 stood up and left, another customer screamed on front of everyone as her food hadnt arrived 1.5 hours after her appetizer. We got served our main course 1h 45min after arriving. We used to go there on a regular basis but this was the last time for sure.
The service was atrocious. They didnt get us some drinks till we were done eating and had already asked for the check. Despite several requests and reminders. And there was no apology. The food.... I dont know what food they serve but it is not Indian food. They had potato wedges instead of kofta.

2022-06-05I gave this 5 stars 4 years ago. This was my favorite Indian restaurant. Yesterday, June 4, 2022, I drove my family of 3, 35 to 40 minutes on a Saturday evening and arrived at 7:30, and there appeared to be about 6 tables of guests. The restaurant looked like it was at 1/3 to 1/2 capacity. At first, I was told they would not take us. Then that it would be a 45 minute wait. We left. I doubt that I will waste gas trying to go here again.

2022-07-17Ok food, didnt taste authentic at all. I would not visit here again. Appetizers were over fried to the point that it looked dark brown and not golden brown. Prices are ridiculously high, and it doesnt look like they knew the correct receipt for malai kofta or butter paneer. Also, the rice they used was cheap white rice and not Sona Masoori or Basmati, for the price they are charging they should be using good quality rice.

2019-11-20Food was incredible. Flavors were on point with heat as it should be (never heat for the sake of heat, it all had incredible flavor) well worth the visit! Garlic naan and samosas were the favorite of the night. Tandoori chicken was insane!

2021-12-30Food was just OK compared to other Indian restaurants in the area (Indian Delight, Ruchi and Desi Chowrastha. For the quality of the food served and service, I personally feel they are over priced. Naans were good. Chicken tikka was nowhere flavorful. It tasted just like boiled white meat. My biggest disappointment was their chicken biryani. It looked more like porridge than a biryani. It got spoiled within few hours of keeping it outside. I will never go in again.

2021-06-02The absolute best of Indian cuisine you will find in this area. We eat here weekly, and the food is amazing quality most of the time. My favorite is Butter Chicken, Garlic Naan, and Saffron Rice.I also recommend the Rogan Josh. You just can’t go wrong!

2021-05-09We really like the food there and that’s why we ordered food for Mother’s Day. I ordered online and got a confirmation to pick my food up 55 minutes later. I arrived at the restaurant and was asked for the name. They went back in the kitchen and told me it will take another 5 minutes. After 20 minutes I asked again and actually figured out my order slip was still in their printer 😞 Now they told me that they will work on it, but they are out of some stuff. So I didn’t get what I want and waited 50 minutes for it.

2021-06-27Today first time we went to this place and was expecting to have some Indian flavour food. We ordered chicken biryani for my kids, one vegetables tandoor grilled and Rogan gosh, that served very fast but food was not at all close to any indian taste. In particular the biryani they served I had never seen and ate such baseless and tasteless biryani ever and same with all the other dishes we ordered.I am sure the biryani they served was even 1%close to actual taste of biryani. In the name of India they are making fool to other people and spoiling the name. Try paradise biryani parma if you want to see the difference or for vegetarian Annapurna ..ridge road parma is good particularly their Punjabi Thali and chat.

2021-05-04My first choice in Indian restaurants. It is family owned and I think the original restaurant is on Taylor Road and has an outdoor patio for dining. Love their food and the friendly staff add joy to my dining experience when I dine in or just pick up carry out.
