Amazing place to walk, chill, run, picnic, relax. So many trails and spots to be. Fun little beach, great views of the reservoir and dam, more trails than you explore in a day. Seems like great fun with a bike. Peaceful, lots of birds, walkers, families. Interesting 70s vibe. Clean and working facilities (bathrooms), and was safe and friendly. Definitely going back.
Pretty nice campground! Improved since I was a kid (25 years ago). Bathrooms are a little rough, numerous stall locks broken, shower temp was just above lukewarm, but the showerhouse is heated slightly in the cold months which was great. They said the showerhouse is operational until about second week of November, potable water is available all year long. We camped Halloween night and actually walked around to see if anyone was giving out candy, tons of sites did! We had buckets full of candy! Lots of fun, 1 Lakeview Trail in the campground, nice playground.
We love this state park. Sometimes we stay in the older standard cottages and sometimes we stay in the remodeled preferred cottages. If you can afford it its worth the upgrade. If not youll still have a great time. There is a lot of easy walking and trails. This is an excellent place to ride a bicycle. The lake is warm and beautiful but in most cases the beach is covered with geese droppings. Everything you could need is a short drive away. If you need a restaurant or grocery store its only five to fifteen minutes away.
We visited on a sunday, there was plenty of parking, the bathrooms were decently clean, the water cool and refreshing on a hot day, and the water seems clean. I would recommend water shoes though, some of the people in our group stepped on some unfriendly rocks in the water. We took a group of 20 people ranging from 2 years old to 74 years old, and we had a blast! We even found a tree to have lunch under!
I love Buck Creek State Park. I also like the federal side. There are tons of shelters tons of hiking and biking trails. Lots of places to fish from. Plenty of places to launch kayaks and canoes. A huge Campground with plenty of amenities and lots of cabins better very clean and very nice its a huge part plenty of things to explore plenty of places to go. not always are lots of pain demon has lots of backcountry camping for free or islands in the back side of the part that are Army Corps Engineers that you cant I think I asked to the island take your things out there and Camp its pretty cool massive massive take advantage of it if you have to run or bike or Id just be in the water with a good place to be
This was our 1st trip to Buck creek and let me just say we were impressed. Our cabin was an upgraded one and it was beautiful, very clean and nice comfy beds. 1 bedroom has a queen and the 2nd bedroom has new bunk beds and a queen. I could live there. Saw lots of deer, raccoons, bunnies, and even skunks. Great place to hike or fish. We fished from shore and didnt catch anything however we had a great time! We will come back for longer stay.
Love it here. My family visits as much as possible. Clean showers and bathrooms on site camp store and on weekends they offer movies on the big screen and have popcorn for .25 Rootbeer floats and cotton candy for a 1.00 donation. On site park makes it great for the kids .
This place is absolutely beautiful, has spectacular views, nice nature trails, clean public restrooms, a playground for the children and a place just to relax , take time to yourself or connect with with someone in a peaceful environment outside. Pretty place to take pictures too. Or at least I sure did while I was there and enjoyed every minute I was there with my family.
Great place to camp and go fishing. Campground is clean. Lots of options for both large campers and tent campers. If you pay attention to your campsite you can find a tent site in the woods away from the main road and about a 50 foot walk through the the woods to the lake (try site 23). Boat landing is clean and wide, able to launch 5 boats at one time. But if you dont have a boat you can find plenty of places to fish from the marina docks, landing docks, or various other locations. Easy to catch bluegill with worms almost everytime we visit.
I grew up swimming, fishing and boating here, now my grandbabies are doing the same. Looks like they are improving the beach/bath house area. Really appreciated the long switchback ramps instead of the steep downhill walk from the parking lot. I think we but the last day warm enough in the year for them to jet ski.
This is and has been a favorite particularly for the relative closeness and the various activities available. Fishing, hiking, camping, boating, swimming, kayaking, dog walking, opportunity for landscape photography, etc...Sometimes the water is not always the cleanest but mostly due to the public litter.
Ive been here several times over the years. Quality fishing and recreational areas, picnic pavillions, camping, hunting and biking/running trails. There is no on site bait and tackle store, but there are plenty within a few miles. Its a great spot to bring the family or if you want to enjoy the outdoors.
Theres beauty to be found everywhere...You just gotta know where to look...As much as I abhor this town, theres ALWAYS something to help you look at the positives. Thats why so many people get so content here, and even leave and come bk again and again. This is where Im from so Ill ALWAYS visit from time to time. But whenever I pic up my family and go, Ill finally be able to say I made the dream come true......
An experience contrary to negatives reviews I read online. I camped there for several days. The campground was well maintained, and the shower house was as spotless as is realistic to expect. The staff stopped in at least twice a day to keep it that way. The biggest surprise was no mosquitoes! The only bite I received my entire stay was from a fly. They must fog regularly. Lots of level sites, (except 91 and 92). I will be coming back.
Loved camping this weekend! Staff was friendly and very helpful. The restrooms were clean and always closer by no matter where were went. The beach was rocky but we brought our water shoes and had the best time! The private camping beach is so much better than the public beach but we still enjoy the public beach when not camping its huge and there is always room for everyone.
Nice park. First time there. Cabins were very nice though the fire alarm went of randomly each day in the cabin we had. The beach was ok and we enjoyed swimming. Only negative was the poison ivy everywhere. The photo of the railing going down the hill to the lake is where poison ivy is mowed off so I actually didnt realize I was in it until it was too late. 10 days with poison ivy rash now. Be careful there with little kids not to let them walk through it.
Excellent camp grounds beautiful scenery. Camp hosts are very wonderful. They have crafts for family on weekends and they do movies with familys every weekend . Highly recommend this place to everyone looking to get away for the weekend just to camp go swim hang out etc...
This is our first time visiting and it was a nice place. My only complaint is that the camping beach really needs a trash can and raking. There was a TON of goose poop and regular taking would keep the beach nice. Otherwise, trails were nicely mowed and bathrooms were cleaned daily. The small size of the campground meant it wasnt a rowdy as Hueston Woods or Hocking Hills, so that was nice. The only drawback is that so many of the sites had almost no shade, so it get hot in the middle of the in a tent. Most campers were in RVs, but were tent campers, so thats a concern.
Rented a cabin for the weekend w/ my family of 4. We were able to get one of the cabins that was renovated in 2016 & happy w/ it. We appreciated the parking & walkway to the cabin were shoveled before we arrived. Enjoyed being out away from busy Columbus for a few days. Plan to return during warmer months for hiking & swimming.
We absolutely love coming here. We have tent camped and pulled out camper. The spots are level, the bathrooms are clean, and the staff at the check in is so helpful.Whether youre coming to camp for the weekend, or just swim for the day, youll be sucked in and have to keep coming back.
Great place! Depending on the time of year, the beach and water may not be nice to swim in (goose droppings), but the area, including the connected bike trail, offers beautiful areas to explore! Is also connected to the Ohio Rail-to-Bike trails, so would be a great stop on a long bike trip!
Beautiful spaces, clean, and well laid out, this will definitely be on my return and recommend list. I stayed in an electric camp spot with my tent and felt like it was well tended, well keep, and a great base to work from for a few days. The beaches were nice and friendly, trails were enjoyable, and folks were friendly. Camp store was closed due to corona, but plenty of reasonable nearby options available. My one frustration was unclear check in process with the office closed, but a small issue easily managed. I will be back!
The park is beautiful, especially at night to watch the sun setting over the lake. However, I wish the community would do more with the area. The beach is gravel more than sand and the visitors dont always take good care of the area. It could be a vital and flourishing area of Springfield but needs some additional funding and staffing to make sure it has a family friendly vibe and isnt just abandoned to the worst of Springfield.
A nice park but I didnt think it was equipped with enough signs on the roads leading into the park. Took to many wrong turns. There werent any dumpsters at the dump station so take your trash out before that. The trail that we took was along the water. It was nice but people dont care if they leave trash behind. But over all I wish we could have stayed a little longer to check out the beach and the pier. It was nice. On a side note does anyone else have trouble with ohio State reservations site? I always have issues. So maybe its me.
Came here regularly last summer and had great beach experiences. Im not sure what happened this year. The beach is overrun with families blasting music and the water is pretty gross. I went on the other side of the reservoir near the campground and it was a little bit better
Beautiful park, really nice campgrounds. 5 stars for clean shower houses and a dedicated primitive loop. Big plus that there is a cut through from the primitive sites to the shower house. 1 star for really bad neighbors with loud music and cars running and coming and going after 11pm and no one shutting it down. 10/10 would still reccomend because you always get the occasional jerk anywhere.
Such a great park for camping, hiking and playing in the wonderful lake. Theres a small pebble beach right by the campsites, and a big sand beach a couple miles away at the entrance. We take a jet ski and kayaks every year, the lake is perfect. Good campsites, everyone is friendly and nod to each other as they walk by. Bathhouses are dated but functional, maybe theyll get updated soon. Lots of wildlife about.
The location is great! They have a variety of things to do. The sites are a good size with an easy back in layout, and fairly level. There are both electric and non electric sites available. The lake is beautiful with a beach at the campground as well as the public beach.
The cabin is okay. The staff is very nice. It is very quiet. We were here mid week so we didnt have many neighbors. TV with DirectTV. Fairly well equipped. Could use some more silverware and serving utensils. Playground. LOTS OF DEER AND RACCOON. Nice lake to walk around(March). We had a dog friendly cabin. Cost was minimum. Good time.
HORRIBLE place to camp! We were incredibly disappointed with this location. Booking was a nightmare because there was no information the website, hours are completely wrong in terms of the office hours (we asked and they told us one thing to show up and were closed). We had to book a non-electric site because it was fully booked (no big deal) except for the fact that if you book an electric cite you have access to the bathrooms (which were DISGUSTING and no soap let alone cleaned) and other amenities which you dont in the non-electric cite. It would be ok if it wasnt such a walk to get to a bathroom which are not available if your non-electric cite. While they are trying to practice social distancing the cites are so close together thats its impossible. You are literally right on top of the person next to you with NO PRIVACY! You literally can see what everyone is doing in the camp cite which really takes away from the camping experience. The camp cite was so nice to give us a camping spot right next to the main road which again has no privacy! When we 1st got there we were promply greated by a couple (which I assumed worked there) to warn us that the people next to us were very loud the night before after asking if we were associated with them (yeah great 1st impression 🙄). Its 2.5 miles into the woods which would assume you would be surrounded by nature..yeah right! Beach thats near by was a disappointment since its littered with rocks in the water. The mariana cafe is a joke so dont even bother. There are a lot more issues with this place but honestly i would never visit again! DO NOT COME HERE! This place needs shut down!
Nice small local lake. Did some SUP paddling for the day. Nice parks. The duck blind area was a bit shallow but at least not many fast boats could enter. The lake was fairly clean in comparison to many Ohio lakes. Low shoreside development, which gives it a nice primitive natural feel.
Beautiful day to see the lake views and great weather breezes. Couldnt ask for a nice Summer day to enjoy one of Ohios many natural resources in State Parks. No fees to enter the park unless you want to camp or stay over in one of the cabins. Great marina area as well! Get out there and enjoy what is left of Summer days!
This park is always so quiet and relaxing. The land is beautiful. They have so much to offer.... Cabins, camping, boat dock, disc golf course, horseback riding trails just to mention a few. They also have a great little bait shop and restaurants area. The beach is ALWAYS clean and peaceful.... Numerous walking trails throughout the park... Awesome get away spot!
This is a fantastic park to visit. Whether youre looking for a challenging 18 hole disc golf course to play, a beach where you can go swimming, a lake for fishing, or fun hiking trails that are dog friendly, you will have an awesome time here! I would highly recommend.
Humans make natures beauty fade with their ugly attitudes, screaming at their poor animals they have tied to a tree but had ignored all day until screaming at him for wanting attn, young guy screaming & cussing his grandfather, a guy & girl meeting up for a quickie and just plain weirdos that pull in just to stare at you being very awkward & creepy until I just stick my tongue out at them lol
So much To do with my little ones (1-9 yrs). We enjoyed camping here over fathers day weekend. While my husband and FIL went out on the boat we had fun at the park, beach and nature center. The best part of it all is the restrooms didnt smell like a porter potty like most outdoor restrooms do.
They cleaned the beach extremely good.. it was very nice.. heres a tip.. if u go there at 8 am you have the entire beach pretty much to urself.. I do this every time I go there which lately is every weekend. Everyone keeps their distance as well. Only thing I do like is the hill I have to walk back up.. lol..
Really beautiful place but the office staff was less than friendly or helpful. Seems to be a lack of enforcement and security. We got stuck beside a camper with (4) XL loud dogs. The owners left their dogs locked in their camper barking for 10-12 hours at a time but seemed to arrive back in just enough time to ruin our night. Called the ranger and apparently since they didnt attack me and since the owner had an unexplained situation they basically did nothing but accuse me of threatening her. Not true! They should be a little more worried about animal cruelty, and the fact that their bringing several small children into a camper that 4 huge dogs live in unattended. There is zero chance its a clean environment. Ive been to several different state parks and I can tell you this wouldnt fly. Hands down I prefer to keep my family to ourselves and typically wouldnt even get involved but we are paying customers too and when I saw her pull up with a van full of kids that did it for me. Were hopefully going to try out the kayak park and Ill let you know how that goes since I saw a sign stating dont touch the water....lol Apparently they use Buck Creek for sewage runoff??? Fingers crossed
I really enjoyed a day of camping with my family. The lake is pretty nice. It also has a small swimming area just for campers. It is not terribly crowded.Showers are clean. Each campsite is pretty big and has grass and trees. There is a good play area for kids as well. Check for different nature programs. It is one of the best camping areas around columbus, OH.
Nice park. Great views and wonderful place to reflect, relax or take a hike. We have stayed in the campground as well. The restrooms are clean and the sites are a mix of isolated to right and compact. The clientele is mixed and some not so desirables but not overwhelming.
This place was a great time. We do the primitive camp sight which even has an electrical outlet to assist in blowing up your air mattresses. The beach is fun just wish theyd scoop out the rocks. If youre going to beach and youre getting in the water, wear some diving shoes. If you dont youre feet will be walking on sharp rocks.
Good lake for boating, though shoreline fishing is limited mostly to the riprap wall around the spillway. Some hiking trails, but nothing really spectacular to see. The Crabil homestead is worthwhile and the prairie area attracts lots of wildlife watching opportunities. Hunting is next to impossible from crowding and the numerous horse and bike trails intersecting the North end of the park. Lots of potential...but could use some work.
Great place to go for a camping weekend! Came down and went to visit the local antique stores in the area. Very nice and quiet being way back away from civilization. Each site has plenty of room to set up camp and not be on top of your neighbor. Cant wait to come back again next time.

2021-11-10Just based on interactions in the office, this place is great. Fall time is gorgeous. The lake looks peaceful. There is camping and a beach. But the staff was so nice, informative and kind. As Ohio Park Passport stamp collectors, it’s nice to talk to people that work there and can give valuable insight to the location. This lake has 3 names!! Visit and talk to the staff to find out ;)

2022-06-17Our family enjoys coming to the beach at Buck Creek State Park! The beach is clean and well kept, without the goose poo, etc, that I often see around other lakes. The clientele seemsdecent, too; I never feel uncomfortable or unsafe, and during almost every visit, I see a ranger patrol either the lot or the beach. It is a sand beach, with a generous area in the lake for swimming. Underneath the lake is a rocky bed, so I recommend wearing water shoes if you are going to go into the lake. Bring lots of sand toys and the kids will have a great time. While there is shade available on the grass hill leading down to the beach, there arent shade areas on the beach, so bring your own umbrella or tent. Its often windy though, so be sure you have a way to anchor it.The parking area and bathrooms are up the hill from the lake itself. You can get to the lake Beach using stairs or a ramp, but you have to go up and down whenever you use the restrooms, so (pro tip) always have the kids use the restrooms before heading down to swim. There are limited, if any, areas to grill and nowhere to purchase food. I recommend packing lunch and snacks, as well as beverages. The water fountains have been nonfunctional the last few times we visited, so be sure to also bring water bottles. There are trash cans at regular intervals along the beach, so please do your part to keep this beach clean, pleasant, and enjoyable for family trips!

2021-09-14This is a typical state park in Ohio. The beach is nice. We came for the Ohio games multi race event. The set-up was good for the races. The day was super hot.

2022-06-14Calm and peaceful place to camp and fish, weather on shore or in a boat!
