Its not the best coffee shop in Athens by any means, but its not bad. I go for two reasons: their Two for Tuesday deal (buy a medium or large specialty drink on Tuesday, get a coupon for a free one sometime in that week), and their chocolate cherry cordial (a mocha with cherry syrup, and its delicious). Their food is decent, but a bit pricey. Their wifi has issues some days as well, making it hard to work there. Outlets are at a premium, which makes it hard for those who need outlets (my laptop battery sucks) to find seating unless theyre pretty dead. I love the store front, which has huge windows and tables right next to it. It is a perfect place to sit and people watch while you work and sip on coffee. One last thought, the manager seems super nice and is essentially always there. I like how he is so active with his business.

We stop here for lunch when we visit Ohio University which is my wifes alma mater. You order food at the counter in the back. If you just want coffee or a pastry you order in the front. There are a lot of sandwiches to choose. I had the Turkey Reuben which was excellent. The salted caramel cookie was amazing.
Brenens has been around for awhile, so that speaks of its appeal and quality. Good sandwiches, salads, and good coffee (brewed, lattes, etc). It gets a bit crowded because it is popular. I had the honey lavender latte last week and the corned beef Reuben on pumpernickel--both excellent.
I got the meal plan and it was totally worth it! I go and get sandwiches weekly and they are always great. My only suggestion is to fix your WiFi! It is frustrating because sometimes I would want to eat and work on homework but the WiFi would never work even though it is advertised.
Perfect food, drinks, and atmosphere! Eating outside, on a beautiful sunny day, in their outdoor seating area.... absolutely wonderful.
It’s a bit confusing that this coffee shop has a private wi-fi network for their boss to use but none for customers. It’s especially surprising considering it’s in the middle of a college town
Brenens is a lively cafe right in the thick of it on Court Street in Athens. They have some interesting and tasty sandwich and soup offerings, and employ a lot of local college students. The owner seems to always be on site and manages it very well--clean tables, quick service, clean restrooms, etc. Ive had lunch there numerous times over the years, which is my basis for my comments. I knocked it down 1 star for because, if youre not careful, you can leave there having spent close to $10 for just a half sandwich, soup, and drink, so youre hungry again a few hours later. Also, they sell coffee but this is not a great place to go for that. More than once theyve pumped me a cuf out of one of those tall plastic/aluminum carafes, and it was far from hot. Add in some cream or milk and your drink is tepid at best (i.e., not great). But if you like being where there are a lot of people to watch, both in the place as well as out on the street, Brenens is worth a look.
The people here are so nice & they have a great food. Nothing is off with their menu. Chicken salad on multi-grain baguette, is my fav!
The chai tea was average, baked goods plain, and the breads are not baked on site. Okay place to stop. Nothing special.
Coffee was good, but I went in to study and their WiFi didnt have internet connection. I asked others around the cafe and they also said it didnt work for them. I asked the employee at the counter and they said, it can be reset but it might just be the number of people there (about 8 using computers), and if it didnt work after the reset I should go find somewhere else with WiFi that works.
Slowly making my way to try all the cafes in Athens and this one is by far my favorite! Tried the banana mocha and it was the best thing I have ever tried! The staff was super friendly and the atmosphere was great!
I love Brenens, the food is nice, hot drinks tasty and service is good. It has a nice, cosy environment as well as free WiFi and is a good place to come and do work outside of the OU campus.
My favorite coffee shop. If you are into sandwiches, salads and burgers you would love this place. One thing that attracted me to them is their support for breast cancer campaign.
Absolutely delicious! I would highly recommend the soups and sandwiches. Probably one of the best sandwiches Ive ever had. You will not be disappointed.
The interior is adorable and has a great atmosphere. We got the honey lavender cookie and the Frozen Milky Way and both were amazing!
My updated review is that Brennans has good espresso drinks, a 2-for-Tuesday drink special that rocks, and the deli has fantastic sandwiches.

Ordered coffee in the middle of the afternoon. Stayed well over 10 minutes and had to get a refund becuase it would have taken another 10-15 minutes. Poor work ethic from the employees.
It would have been 5 stars except for flies inside the display case, sampling the salads. But, food and coffees are great!

We were starved and wanted a place to eat that was yummy.1️⃣ ENVIRONMENT - it definitely has a college feel. It seems to be very popular.2️⃣ FOOD - super good! They have a ton of options. We had the BLT and the Turkey sandwich and both were tasty.3️⃣ SERVICE - staff was very nice and friendly. They were quick to wait on us.Definitely a must stop for a quick Samoans a cup coffee.

2021-10-16I go here all the time, and it’s honestly one of the highlights of my days every time I do. Everyone is always so friendly, I’ve absolutely never had complaints about anything I’ve ordered, and it’s such a nice atmosphere to sit and enjoy my order before work or classes. Plus, their Tuesday deal is amazing. 100% my favorite place in Athens to get coffee. If I ever leave Athens I’d probably miss this place more than anything else.

2021-05-03This was my first visit to Brenens and I had an amazing experience! The people in there are so kind and patient (I didnt know their menu). I ordered their frozen cappuccino, per recommendation, and it was amazing! The turnaround time for my drink was incredible. The atmosphere of this coffee shop is so warm and cozy, definitely would make a good study spot. I fell in love with Brenens at first sip. I will definitely be going back to Brenens soon!

2021-11-11We (Airclaws Heating and Cooling) have starting using Brenens recently to send out treat boxes to our customers for recent equipment purchases. 2021-07-28Here at lunchtime so we werent in the mood for coffee but the café food, drinks, and service were quite good. Turkey BLT was tasty although they forgot to add bacon. The MEGa grilled cheese went down really well and the Turkey Cranberry panini was very good.

2021-09-28This is the only coffee shop I have ever been to that does not have Wi-Fi / refuses to give their Wi-Fi password. Athens is in a college town, it literally blows my mind that they don’t have Wi-Fi. Last week I bought a coffee there to do homework, only to find out that I couldn’t do any homework because they have no Wi-Fi so I had to leave and couldn’t go to a new coffee shop because I didn’t have enough money to buy more coffee. it’s basically a scam, this coffee shop does not care about the students of Athens and only cares about making money. not all of us are privileged enough to be able to afford a hotspot.
