BLU Jazz in other cities:
Blu isnt just a color. Its a state of being.Every time I return to Akron I make a point to attend a show at this one of a kind jazz club. Tony has cultivated a unique, classy, genuine experience in this city with a small-town feel. The artists this club draws never fail to wow and inspire their audience, and the service is always accommodating, attentive, and friendly. This is a place to take an old friend and catch up. A place to share a mindful night with your partner. A place to discover and treat yourself.Blu plate has a good assortment of dishes to satisfy the palate, and the bar has a wide variety of brews and local cocktail concoctions. I truly could not insist more that you do yourself a favor and spend an evening enjoying the sounds and sights at the best venue Akron, or almost anywhere, has to offer. Cheers!
This place books GREAT shows! I have been here several times and have had a good experience every time. The owner was very thoughtful and helpful even when the place was packed for holiday shows. I would highly recommend BLU and will be returning for quite a few shows in the near future! They also happen to host the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra often, which is an amazing opportunity!
Attended a Nick Puin concert here, and it was a great experience! I had never heard of him before, but they were all very talented and entertaining. Very comfortable venue to catch a show as well. We did not have any food, but the surrounding tables got food that looked delicious! Drinks were mixed well, and the service was excellent. We will be back!
Terrific club. Intimate but not too small. Great blues open mic night on Tuesdays. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The food is very good as well. I have never been there on a weekend. My perspective is based on weekday evenings. Im led to understand that the restaurant is busy on weekends, as to be expected.
My husband and I attended the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra concert here on Feb 16 and had a wonderful time! The staff were friendly and attentive, the music was incredible, and the food was delicious. Overall, we were very happy with our experience. Excited to come back again soon! My one tip is to show up 30-40 minutes before a show to get a good seat!
My husband and I just visited here for the first time tonight and had a fabulous time! The music was superb (we heard the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra)! Our food was okay, my husband ordered the BLU Philly Special and said it was decent, but not very flavorful. I had the Beets & Berries salad, and while the blackberry balsamic vinaigrette was delicious, I found out that I dont like beets at all and the majority of my blackberries were tasteless. We really enjoyed our overall experience with the music, the atmosphere was really fun, but we will probably order different food if we go again!
We stopped here randomly Friday to celebrate Russells birthday. The menu was limited but the food was AMAZING! We had the filet and the tuna. Our waiter Cody was excellent AND fun. With a bottle of wine the bill was $90.. Oh I almost forgot the piano player and the live jazz and blues downstairs. We had fun!
The club is nice . Ive gone there for several different jazz concerts. The dining has room for improvement each time not enough waiters/servers so you know what that equals . The food once you finally get it..not that great.I blame the management for the issues ..thats my opinion.Could be a top notch experience with the right person in charge .
I went to this place because my sister n law had a birthday party on Saturday. We were reserved for 6pm. All the guests arrived. Our waitress did not ask everyone for their drinks. She only offered cocktails. They gave us several orders of bread that were just heated in the microwave and horrible tasting. Our food was finally received at 7:45pm. I had the Frenchman po boy and It was very good. The fries were yummy but had a little too much salt. After we ate, it was a whole hour before we finally received our checks. Food was good, service was horrible
Authentic Mexican hole in the wall place. Great food and great place! You order and pay right when you walk through the doors. Then you can either sit down at a table to have them bring the food to you or you can take it to go. Will definitely come back. Feels like a little piece of California in Ohio. Makes me less homesick.
Great little place. The back entrance and multiple steps down into the basement makes it feel like a speak easy. The small plates were great, and service was excellent. There is a cover charge for the band (around $20), but the prices on food and drinks were pretty cheap, so all in it was about average. Id go back.
Awesome venue. One of the hidden gems of Akron. Has the feel of a speakeasy as it is located below ground level. Easy parking in the deck next door. Brings in both local and national talent to entertain. Amazing bourbon selection. Great for a date night, to take a client, or just an evening of jazz
Blu Jazz is a great venue for shows with some really good bands coming through. Last time I went, the place was packed with a sold out show and the owner himself saw to it that we were treated very well and accommodated, going above and beyond what I would have expected. I will definitely be back.
Great basement jazz club with an excellent restaurant upstairs. I didnt go 5 stars because our waiter forgot my side dish, and we had tickets for the downstairs performance, so even after asking, I never got it. He was spaced out and forgot something for each person at our table. Disappointing service for a fine dining establishment
Blu jazz is a spectacular place. I havent dined in the dining room yet, but the jazz lounge downstairs is fantastic. The kitchen does serve food there, and their menu always has a lovely selection. The specialty cocktails are great, and the jazz itself is beautiful. I would highly recommend visiting if you enjoy jazz.
Great experience it was our first time coming! Food was great and the drinks were great! But we had poor service our waitress was very forgetful she didnt check on us often she even accidentally charged us for another party it was fixed thankfully. I liked it I hope my partner will give them another chance!
Top notch, world class entertainment in Akron, Ohio. Really cool intimate club type venue for entertainment. Great selection of spirits and wine. Watch the schedule because there are some really great acts that appear at this venue that you really would not expect to come to our town. There is a really cool vibe here! You must visit this club!
This is a beautiful venue with great acoustics and superb musicians making this one of the best places to hear live music that you will find. It is worth taking the trip from Cleveland to Akron on a regular basis. Excellent food and drink. It is a place you can take that special person, whether for business or pleasure.
This little gem is in the basement behind BluPlate. You can access it through the restaurant as well. They have a nice bar with some fancy and pricey cocktails that are delicious. Worth every penny. But they also have a few draft beers and full bar, so no worries. The music is why you are there, and the variety of jazz will swing from one end to the other. Their website does a great job of painting a picture of who you will be seeing. Go solo, with a date (I like the little round tables against the wall/bench for some coziness), with friends, or even parents!
This review is a bit of challenge because the music was perfect food was tasty BUT Jess our server was horrible. This is my first time here and Jessica F left a bad impression on me. I was a server/bartender for 15 years so when I say horrible I have taken into consideration her section size, people per table and the influx of business. Jess never checked on us, when we needed anything we had to flag her down and then she took an exorbitant amount of time bringing it. Fries were cold by the time ketchup came, food was cold by the time my sauce came and she never asked of I would like another drink because she never checked on us. Im not sure if her section is too big or she just is horrible. I will return for the entertainment but if Jessica is working I am steering clear and you should too.
As we stepped in this place, it was empty on Saturday night which I found odd. We went downstairs for a supposedly live jazz performance. As soon as we sat down on the table the music stopped for an hour break. Forgot to mention that we paid $20 a head. Super dark and cold down there. I felt I am taking a ride on a Grayhound bus, so cold. We asked for draft beer, the server couldnt explain exactly what they have and brought a handwritten piece of paper with the beers they have. What a wast of time this place was
Love Blu Jazz, great spot for good music and atmosphere. Saturday night was a different story. We came for a birthday celebration and arrived early, placed our dinner orders early (before most patrons had even arrived). Our waitress was good and attentive, our drinks came as ordered. But after waiting almost an hour and 1/2 only some of our appetizers arrived along with an apology that they were out of stuffed peppers. After waiting another hour, and watching other patrons getting served, we approached the manager and asked what was going on. He explained he was aware, we would be compensated for our wait, and the food would be fresh and hot. Some was, some wasnt, some was not edible; plus at that time there was still another appetizer missing that we were told they were out of that late in the game. We appreciated the manager, Collins, effort to make our night right, and hopefully it was one-time experience. My family frequents Blu Jazz and hopefully this experience wont stop them. Maybe a larger food staff and more food supplies in stock might be an answer. I hope our next visit will be better.
With a brilliant owner and manager, BLU is bringing local, national and international jazz talents to Akron. One performance at a time, BLU is taking Akrons night & culture scene to the next level. As with all music venues, you must know exactly the type of music you like, once you learn that, you will be able to choose from a variety of events and ensure that you are listening to something you like.We have always received excellent service at the bar and at our tables. Expect an excellent drink, if for some reason its not, let them know and theyll take care of you. A must stop for locals and tourists alike.
My husband and I had a night together away from our children. From all the places in Akron, we have choose to enjoy our time at BLU Jazz. The stairs down to the club were kind of trashy, but inside of the club was clean and quite trendy. There was a nice band playing from New York. We were having a romantic time together. First, some kind of woman who was sitting behind us, threw a napkin at my husband and told him to get quiet. We were just sitting whispering to each other quietly and having a good time together. Then, the manager came up and ask us to leave, because, apparently, we were disturbing the show! We were sitting in a front row and were well aware of our presence and surroundings. We have done nothing inappropriate other then being affectionate to each other in a settle manner. At the door, we asked the manager what was wrong in our behavior, but nothing from what he said made sense, was objective or true. Usually, if you unaware of disturbing the peace, they should give a warning or something, or ask you to tone done, but do not kick you out without even talking! We are very well respected people in our circles, and try to go only to upscale places. Here, we paid $70 for 2 ticket to watch a nice but an average performance, and, eventually, for being kicked out for doing what the people suppose to do when they are together and love each other. We never figured out what we did so wrong. Please be aware, this is not a place for some people who are looking for a higher end venue to spend a romantic touchy-feely time together. You will be removed without a warning.
The best place to hear jazz in Akron, Ohio! Awesome staff, awesome drinks, awesome food, and incredible music, a lot of which is local but world class, but they also feature touring jazz musicians, and other special events. If you havent been to BLU Jazz, try it soon and often!
The meals were not as described on the menu. They were also very expensive and completely bland. One of us ordered the apple fritter (I think... Something with apples) and there was not one single apple in it. I can only hope they were working out the pains of being a new restaurant. It would take a lot though for me to try it again.
Food is good, could use tweaking perhaps because the kitchen was slow. Serrvice was poor. The staff walked around like zombies, rarely acknowledging guests. The bread was awful, I agree with another reviewer, but it took a long time for the food to come out so we ate some anyway.
A basement jazz club that definitely has the cool vibe working in its favor. Every time I go, I get a different specialty cocktail and all of them have been great. The food menu is limited and comes from the restaurant upstairs, but who goes to a jazz club for the food menu? They have really had some great musicians pass through the place. I especially like to go to Blu Jazz when its a jazz band that plays music that can be danced to...such a treat. The dance floor is small. It would be nice if Blu Jazz would remove the tables and chairs from the dance floor when they are expecting a larger number of dancers to attend for the evening.
Great people here.. You get a sence of Welcome to our establishment... enjoy the music and make yourself at home. I was raised on Blues and Jazz. Thank the music Gods there is a place for that in Akron Ohio!.. I recommend this sweet lil joint to all my friends and family.. ❤❤❤
Very Nice Club... Smooth Jazz and Great Drinks. I went there on Mothers Day, Sunday May 13th and the restaurant was closed... it was a little confusing where the jazz club entrance was located??? Google Maps shows 47 East Market but thats not it.. Go around the corner to the Parking Garage on North Main St. youll see a Blu Sign and the entrance to the Club. Really cool how its hidden and tucked away like a speakeasy. A sign would be helpful on the front of the restaurant. Someone mentioned a Blu Line to follow; I didnt see a line? I hope they bring back Emmet Cohen Trio, they were very entertaining.
Where is 3 Point? Julie we miss you! Im not at all impressed. Menu is overpriced. Crawfish Beignets were not what we thought they were going to be. Rems like everything we love has went downhill. Dirty martini was on point though. Customer service can be upgraded. Owner was clear, we were not on his radar.
My wife and I live in pennsylvania we went to akron to checkout Marcus Anderson. We had an amazing time. I had the shrimp and grits and my wife had the fish tacos food was on point or waiter Mike did a great job handling all of his tables. Mike needs a raise lil. The show was awesome Marcus Anderson put on a great show and to and James Orr from pieces of a dream simply amazing. I would recommend blujazz+ to everyone if you ever get to akron ohio make this spot a place to visit while you are there. Great great blujazz+ we will be back

2021-12-11It is so good to be back at Blu! We enjoyed a fun night out with friends watching one of our favorite gypsy jazz Bands, Hot Djang. We had great cocktails and the bartenders and staff were terrific! They do not have the kitchen open yet but we were allowed to bring in our own food. A great time was had by all!❤️🎼🍸🍹🍷

2022-02-06We saw Hubbs Groove tonight and was pleased AGAIN! We are followers from Cleveland. Definitely see them, they never disappoint! The atmosphere is simply perfect, waiters are friendly, hopefully the kitchen will open soon. It can be both a romantic night out or a fun night with your family and friends. An awesome way to hear many artists perform some of your favorite music and introduce you to new!

2022-03-21The Blu Jazz is rapidly becoming one of the premier jazz clubs in the country. The setting is fantastic there is a bar upstairs and one downstairs the stage is located up front and personal close to the musicians. Sit at the bar or one of the many tables. There is always a good selection of local talent and national acts here. Ive never been disappointed yet.

2021-12-15Great place, open to a variety of events or artists. We had some electronic dance music nights here. I really liked the smaller intimate vibe, and the staff was also great. Very friendly from what I can remember.

2021-11-21I had to answer no to many questions pertaining to the food. They had recently reopened from the pandemic and have yet to open the kitchen. The band was awesome but we must be patient. I loved that you must show a vax card or a negative test to gain entrance.I love this place.

2018-09-30This place is one of the hidden gems of Akron / Northeast Ohio. Every time I come, there is always great music. The drinks here are also very creative and taste great! The acts that come here can be a very wide variety. You can get anything from smooth jazz, fusion, R&B, blues and more. If you find yourself in the area, there is always music. Check it out.
