Beautiful park! The trails are well kept, there is plenty of nature to be seen if you look for it, there is a natural playground for the kiddos, plenty of open space for casual sports or picnics and even a number of shelters that can be reserved. I am making this park a regular destination.
Nice park overall! The playground equipment is awesome, great for kids and the whole family. There is even a natural playground. I took my dog, there arent a ton of options for dog trails, but it was still a great walk for both of us. Prepare to get a little muddy on the dog tail. 🐕🦺
My father in law passed and my mother in law requested a Buckeye tree be donated to the park in his memory. We were able to rent THE pavilion where this tree is planted for the celebration of life event. There were plenty of other pavilions obviously rented out for the same purpose as we drove in.Having the rented area was really great for the privacy of the event. The area was immaculate when we came and a Ranger checked in with us shortly after arriving to go over a few things. There were enough tables for the 70ish family members we had present. The shelter over most of the tables was beautiful and even had lights inside it that could be turned on.We accidentally left a pair of flip flops behind and called the Ranger station. They said they had found them and were holding onto them through the evening before putting them in the lost and found. We were able to drive right back and pick them up from the Ranger. Some really great customer service and were going to look into having another tree donated and planted soon. 💗 My father in laws tree is just pending its memorial plaque.
We tried out there natural play area today and I came with low expectations. It turned out to be pretty impressive they got a really nice zipline swing thing that thats very secure and sturdy and actually runs over a creek its really nice. Theyve also got two really long nice ropes that the kids can swing on that were also nice.
The Natural Play Area was a fun and unique outdoor adventure for our family. It was neat to see all the surprises as we wound along the trail. The zip line was great (ages 5 and up, max rider weight 350 lb). I hopped on the giant teeter-totter opposite my 8-year-old. Wear your walking shoes - my sandals didnt cut it. The kids also enjoyed the other playgrounds and swings.
One the best park in Columbus city area, nice trails and well maintained. Lake Thoreau observation decks are nice to watch wildlife and they do have wild turkeys and they live near one of the Observation deck. So dont miss visiting lake thoreau observation deck. Added lots of pics, one thing to remember there are plenty of parking lots and make sure you remember where you parked, mark it on your google map as you will easily get lost in park if you are new. I met couple of people who lost their way to parking and we cannot guide them as we dont know which parking they parked so be mindful.
We will definitely be going back however I was disappointed with how many attractions and exhibits were broken. I know that this is not necessarily a reflection only on this park, but on the parks department as a whole but was nonetheless I was surprised. Still clean and enjoyable and like I said we will be back just hopefully they can get things back in order.
Very awesome underrated park. They have nice trails but me and my wife have been walking from end to end on the roads/grass area to avoid human contact as much as possible due to covid-19. Great route to get the heart pumping especially where the hills are. And plus there is awesome scenery along the road path on the hills with streams and animal gazing. This park is bigger than I thought. Bbq grills are there and disc golfing is available. So much wildlife and open fields to enjoy .
I booked the Dogwood shelter for a team building work picnic. We had the space all day (9am-3pm).The reservation process was easy. The facilities were very clean and in great condition. There is ample seating under the shelter, with electrical outlets and a large counter space where we placed all the food for the event. There is also a double grill close to the shelter, and more picnic tables in the sun.The space was secluded and a great setting for the picnic. There is lots of field space for games and play. The bathrooms are very close to the seating area, and were kept in great condition as well.It was also easy to walk out to the walking trails close by-- and the trails are paved, which makes it ideal for strollers if you have young children.Overall, its a beautiful park with great facilities. It was perfect for a June event.
I have been visiting this Metro Park for decades so I may be biased, but it truly is a beautiful gem that is barely a mile from 270 and 161. Abundant wildlife, including migrating waterfowl at the lake, deer and turkey everywhere, a longtime population of red tailed hawks, owls, woodpeckers and raccoons. The disc golf course is fun, and fairly challenging but very short. There are cross-country skiing trails and a skating pond available in the winter. The nature center features great displays and lots of windows to a wildlife viewing area.
I cannot believe Ive been in Columbus for 20 years and never knew about this hidden gem! I grew up in West Virginia and Ive never seen a place that reminded me of home like this around here. Absolutely beautiful well-maintained trails and scenic views everywhere you look. I even played the disc golf course while I was there and it was nice, too! No matter where you are in the park, make sure you stay in the areas where you are supposed to be... both for conservation and for your own good since there is poison ivy everywhere off the trails!
Beautiful and clean metro park. Lots of picnic areas, trails and places for fun adventures. Great for singles, couples, families, groups and parties. We had a delightful picnic together. Very pleased and looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommend to others. Godspeed to all.
Blendon is a mostly flat, compact 18 hole course that can (and probably should) be played as a par 3 course. Generous pars with great tees, signage, benches, trash cans, and paved pads under every basket make it an IDEAL beginner course. If youre introducing someone to the sport, start them out at Blendon. Can be played in under an hour with low traffic, sometimes a little crowded but the smart layout keeps the pace flowing.
This park is truly a gem, being the perfect place to escape from busy life in the city. Traveling down the well maintained paths leads you to the serenity that is found by the water, wildlife, and plant life which surrounds you. The visitor center is beautiful and staffed with friendly and knowledgeable people who are happy to tell you anything you want or need to know about this and surrounding parks. Make sure to take time to look through the extended picture windows to watch the wild turkeys and chipmunks play in this wonderful, picturesque setting. This was a fantastic way to relax and commune with nature, which didnt cost a cent.
This place has an amazing natural playground, perfect for young kids. Adults will have fun joining their kids on this playground as well. There are many reservable picnic shelters that are often used for birthday parties or graduation celebrations.Fun extra: there are wild turkeys that often roam about the park, especially near the main road.
Blendon Woods is so much fun for a family with kids. The nature center was fun and informative. The trail to the viewing area was also lots of fun and the signs are full of good information. The best part is the viewing area, on our last visit we saw eight turkeys and a deer. Overall, Blendon Woods was a great experience!
Blendon Woods is one of the most rustic parks of all the central Ohio metro parks. It is most known for its bird audubon. They also have an annual monarch butterfly send off where you are able to interact with some beautiful monarchs before they venture south. The attached photos capture fall at the park on one trail.
This park is just amazing it has everything you could want great built out trails creeks nature just surrounds you in this park there a deer frogs a birds everywhere in the fall the nature is elevated. It is definitely the best metro park and has continued to grow the natural play area is the greatest playground for kids I have ever seen it includes a zip-line and tree swings it is really a child’s dream best park in Columbus
I love Central Ohios Metro Parks. Blendon Woods is a great one. No matter when you visit, youre sure to run into wild turkeys. Likely theyll be much closer than you expect. The wild play area is really great, with a zip line and creeks to play in. This is how childhood should be! The nature center is a great place to read a book or just bird watch. There is a great blind over one of ther ponds to sit and watch wildlife. This is a great park to get out and get refreshed!
My kids love to play on the many playgrounds that are offered there, plus seeing the wildlife makes it a truly great an memorable place for kids of all ages. The park is very clean an has a friendly staff on site. Plenty of trails to be walked or biked for the community. Tons of parking with bathrooms throughout the entire park. Also plenty of benches to sit or eat at with park grills on site if you choose to grill out with friends or family. Also on site there are nature centers for kids to learn about the wildlife in and around Ohio. Pet friendly area for dogs (on a leash). Also included is a Frisbee Disc Golf course. An many more fun activities offered throughout the year. Overall I give it a 5/5
Lots of well-kept trails, several fun play areas for kids, and a giant flock of turkeys are all good reasons to visit. The natural play area features cargo nets, a zipline, and several fun activities made from downed trees. The disc golf course is one of the best wooded courses Ive been on.
A beautiful Columbus park with trails of all difficulties. I definitely recommend taking the hike to see the lake and going into the nature center! The butterfly tent was also beautiful. The staff were extremely friendly, quick to answer my questions, and I could tell they were working hard to keep the park looking clean and beautiful.
A very fine park. We went to one of the shelter houses for a party, and it was really nice. We reserved it in advance, and the ranger was very accommodating with checking us in. Once we were there, we had a nice time. Playground and covered pavilion with electricity and bathrooms, and plenty of parking.
Beautiful Metro park. Great trails and creeks. We find so much wildlife while exploring. Anything from turkey, to various birds, salamanders, frogs, toads, fish, crawdads, etc. The outdoor play area and zipline are great. The nature center has nice reptile displays and photos of native birds and taxidermy. Ranger Brett and all the others are great.
Wonderful local park tucked in there off of 161. They have a cool natural playground for kids and a bunch of little trails that have a variety of scenery and terrain to navigate. The dirt trails have some really nice loops to walk or jog. Most all of the trails are shade covered which is awesome if you are there in the summer during a hotter part of the day.We were hiking last year and go caught out in a rain storm and hardly got wet thanks to how dense the canopy was. It was really nice being out there with how cool the shade made it plus the air from the rain was wonderful. They do events here all the time too. We went to a 4th of July cookout last year during the day and they were giving out free hotdogs and such. Their nature center is quite large as well with a lot of cool information about the plant/wildlife. The rangers are super friendly and always welcoming. They also have a nice dog walking trail as well that is a grass trail that is just a little loop but it was so nice for older mastador before he passed away. He loved going over there and probably could have lived out there if we let him. It is not hilly either which is awesome for older/bigger dogs who may not be able to climb very well like our older boy couldnt do very well towards the end of his life. I see dogs on it all of the time when we are out there, its awesome to see.We have also seen quite a few wild turkeys over here from time to time and it makes everyone stop start taking pictures, its so cool to see them just kinda hop on the trail, walk a few hundred meters, then pop back into the woods. My wife and son always get a kick seeing them.If you are in the area or even on the east side of town, I would honestly recommend Blendon Woods over Blacklick Woods any day of the week. Definitely a great place to go decompress, learn about local wildlife, go exercise, or just about anything you would want in a local metro park. Blendon Woods is an awesome park that you should not pass up if you like taking a tour of local parks. I am looking forward to a new spring/summer/fall this year with my family over here.
Well kept and very clean! The restrooms were exceptionally clean and the natural play area here was much more than I would have ever expected. Once you walk down the path behind the first natural rope section, you have access to the really cool teeter totter and a fun little zip line swing! Theres so much more than I would have thought!
Dont miss a visit to the 2 bird blinds. On our short trip, we saw a great blue heron and Eastern kingfisher, then were greeted by 2 does cheerfully munching on the trees as we walked on the hiking loops. Mostly flat though a bit muddy when we were there, so dress appropriately. The story trail & interactive displays were a nice touch for the kiddos. The nature center was closed so didnt get a chance to see the exhibits.
First time to this beautiful Columbus Metro park with my Father-in-Law. This is a wonderful park with mostly deep woods trails making it feel primeval since much of it appears to be a climax forest. Lots of well groomed trails and rentable picnic event areas. Really nice nature center with lots of planned activities. This park is a gem and should be on your list to explore.
I go for the disc golf, but there are playgrounds for kids, workout enthusiasts, or anyone else. Plenty of picnic areas and bathrooms. I assume there are nature trails and running trails. I think there is plenty more to explore that I dont even know about. My rating is mainly for the disc golf. Its an easy course for people of all skills who have an hour or two to kill.
We went birding on a frigid April day. Blendon Woods had birdfeeders, which attracted beautiful species. Among others, we watched a White-breasted Nuthatch and Carolina Chickadee enjoying the seeds. A Downy Woodpecker pecked the trunk of a nearby tree. A few species of sparrows, including a White-throated Sparrow, hopped along the ground and low branches near the feeder. We had a fantastic view of the lake as we stood shivering in the duck blind watching a male and female Wood Duck. Blending Woods is a birders paradise.
Fun park - if you go to the natural play area there are tall nets to climb on and a tire swing. If you continue on the path there are lots of things made from natural wood - a train, teeter totter, tether ball, tic-tac-toe, a log to cross the creek, a rope swing hanging from a tree, an amazing zip line that you sit on as a swing. At points on the trail there are steep inclines. It’s a short dusty dirt trail with all those features along the way.
LOVE this park with its natural beauty - mostly wooded land with a little stream. I only wish I could bring my dog on the winding, wooded trails, rather than be restricted to a plain field area. This is the only reason Im giving 4stars. Other than that, its a fantastic park for a relaxing walk.
Beautiful park. Trails are well kept, mostly gravel, and shaded. My favorites are the nature trail out to the pond and then the Ripple Rock/Overlook/Brookside Loop (about 2 miles). There’s only one trail that allows dogs and it gets super muddy if it rains, but other than that this place is great. Bathrooms are always clean. Usually wild turkeys and TONS of birds to look at.
Beautiful place to walk with a lot of dynamic trails. I seriously didnt think hiking would be enough of a challenge for me to exercise, but with all the hills and plenty of Pokemon stops, I feel great! The pond walk is also great for a cool down walk for the days I want to take it easy!
Another jewel of a spot in Columbuss metro parks system. Before we even reached the nature center we saw three turkeys and a whitetail buck. The nature center is great, with many wildlife specimens on display and a window where you can watch and listen to birds and chipmunks feeding. Hiking trails are well-maintained and clearly marked. The 600+ acres of park are an oasis of wildlife and native plants. We were there on a holiday weekend, so there were many visitors but it never felt crowded. The park rangers were all very friendly and helpful. We are already looking forward to our next visit!
Pretty nice park. Plenty of pavilions where you can sit. Also picnic tables scattered around the park. A number of small playgrounds. They have a swing set with swings for older and young children. The restrooms were clean when I was there. There is a natural play area here. Great place to walk around in nature.
This park is actually a park and a waterfowl refuge combined into one. The trails are well kept and gave some great views of the creeks that wind through the park. At some of the creek beds you can see the layers of sedimentation on the cliffside. Although not open, the reservable areas of the park are very nice with a large shelter, grills, open space, swings, and picnic tables.
This park has been a nice small park that has a verity of things to do since I was a kid and after 35+ years still go back. It has a great beginners course for disc golfers. Hope they let the course regrow a bit tho because when I grew up you couldnt see Cherrybottom now you can see it and you loose the nature feeling. You can reserve shelter buildings for gatherings, hike, & pet friendly.
Huge park with lots to do. I rented a pavilion about a month ago and it was perfect. Ranger was super helpful with protocol and provided everything we needed for volleyball, horseshoes, and disc golf. Ive gone back a couple times now to play disc golf and its a really fun course. It isnt super challenging so it perfect for beginners. Some of the holes are out in the open and others are covered by forest so its a nice variety. Would recommend to anyone!
This metro park is huge! There are so many things to do here. There are several nature trails, play grounds for kids, a natural play area which I think is the coolest. There is also several wide open areas to play ball. There is a disk golf course with 18 holes. Additionally, there are picnic areas with fireplaces. The park is well maintained by the friendly and helpful park ranger staff. Blendon woods also will host corporate events but you need to make reservations for those spots ahead of time.
Miles of walking trails with varied terrain and mobility levels. Plan on seeing local wildlife on your strolls. An ever changing scenic area nestled at the edge of the city.Good sized shelters for group events with open air food prep areas. Plenty of play areas & nice nature education center for families.
Amazing park! Plenty of wildlife to observe. I was on my way to the disc golf course and saw two turkeys just off to the right of the road. Then at hole 17 saw an entire family of deer on the other side of the creek thats there, also to the right. Even when the park is busy, there is still plenty of room so you can still have any outing with loved ones.
The metro park is so great! There are so many things to do. Multiple playgrounds. Lots of trails of different lengths. They do a good job of keeping the places clean too! There are also a bunch of pavilions to hang out in and have parties. The nature center has different seasonal activities for kids and adults too!
I love this park!! But bring your mud boots if you plan on hiking Sugarbush trail in the spring. Wow, was it muddy. My son was covered with mud up to his knees. He lost his tennis-shoe in a mud puddle! Might want avoid this trail if you have young children? Or maybe you’re into that! 🤣
Great park with beautiful hiking trails. It is a birding hotspot in spring as it attracts a wide variety of warblers and other songbirds. It is also famous for its numerous wild turkeys. I dont consider my visit official unless I see a Blendon Woods wild turkey. Their nature programs are very good. The naturalist, Bruce, is an excellent and enthusiastic birding expert.
Fantastic park, my 3 year old and I love to walk back to the lake to have an onubtrusive look at the wildlife from the sheltered viewing shelters. We also check out the Nature Center and the new natural play area is an amazing addition providing a great change of pace from the usual playground equipment! The park also has a fairly nice, short disc golf course that is great for beginners. I played my first round here and was instantly hooked on this relatively affordable active hobby.

2022-03-17This is one of the famous park in Columbus area. This one is located next to intersection of I-71 and 161. This is very big park with different sections. One of my favorite is the natural playground. I have added most of the pics kids love this one as this is made up of all words and natural trail. You will have enough area for barbecue and your picnic. Each area has its own parking and shelters. Most of the area has kids playground as well. Best for one day outing in spring/summer/ fall. Lot of trees and trails so you will love it.

2022-06-08One of the Columbus area Metro Parks, Blendon Woods is conveniently located near I-270 and state route 161. The main entrance on E Dublin-Granville Road ushers visitors into the park with a gorgeous hilly drive that leads to the nature center at the southeastern end. From this parking lot, you can access several of the trailheads. The walking trails here are short and generally flat, so not difficult in terms of elevation change, which makes it very family friendly. Some of the trails connect to others. The longest trail is Sugarbush, which is unimproved - meaning a natural surface that can be quite muddy if it has recently rained. The Lake Trail leads to a pair of observation shelters that overlook Thoreau Lake. There are playgrounds and restrooms throughout the park, picnic shelters, and a disc golf course, if thats your thing. Something for everyone!

2022-06-09The new play structure is really nice for bigger kids too! Mine are 8 and 10 yrs old. The natural play area is a fun place to explore. We ended up taking the less traveled path and waded through the winding creek until we found another dirt path. The creek is really shallow and my kids loved it!We were a little bummed that they removed the zipline.

2022-06-20Great day to hike at Blendon Woods! Did the Sugarbush trail and caught a glimpse of an owl along the way. I love how quiet and peaceful the park is compared to others.

2022-06-16One of the best parks in Columbus! There are a lot of picnic benches and shelters that are available as first-come, first-served for those looking for a place to host a casual gathering. Very nice trails, both paved and unpaved. The biggest downside is that dogs arent permitted on most of the trails, but they are allowed in the picnic areas (on leashes, and please pick up after them).

2021-12-05One of my favorite local parks. Heavily wooded and cool walk in the summertime. Very scenic walks in the autumn.

2021-07-20This is one of my favorite metro parks. The nature center is back open, with restroom access. There are several bird and animal watching lookouts--one at the nature center, two more lookouts on the trails looking over the lake and wetland habitats, with free distance viewers. The turtles and butterfly tent was outside. Today we saw plenty of wildlife--a leucistic squirrel, chipmunks, a baby rabbit, dragonflies, butterflies, and a great blue heuron. The natural play area offers a lot of great opportunities for kids to climb and swing, including a zip line. Theres plenty of tables and shelters and smaller conventional playground and swing sets.Theres a game room in the nature center with puzzles, oversized Jenga, various live critters in terraria, and assorted nature manipulatives.

2022-04-02Nice little golf course. Short enough to get a quick round in. Hit two aces today here. Hole #3 and hole #10. A bit muddy though.
