Bistro On Main in other cities:
The service was beyond great. We went on Valentine’s Day weekend and before we were even seated, we were told that there was another reservation 2 hrs after our arrival (we also had a reservation), so I felt as though that was a little distasteful. Even though I understand, the delivery couldve been more tactful. The food wasn’t what I expected and I was rather disappointed. If I decide to go back, maybe I’ll go when it’s not a special weekend or holiday.
We have been here quite a few times and always had a great experience. Food and drinks great! Just left and was let down.....sigh....they forgot to put our order in and we waited over an hour for it!! When it finally arrived my spinach tasted burnt and my husband had a totally burnt scallop thrown in that was totally unappetizing! Very disappointed...we had just had a conversation with the bartender about how bad food is at restaurants lately and were excited to be there for great food! They gave us a beer free for our long wait 🙄 no apology about forgetting to put our order in. What a disappointing experience.
We hosted an dinner here for a large group of customers and had a fantastic experience. They were great to work with before our arrival and extremely accommodating and helpful with our needs. The food was great! Every bit of it. The service was fantastic! Drinks were good, too! Our customers were extremely pleased with every aspect of the evening. We highly recommend this restaurant for any group dinner and I assume that the individual meals are just as great!
This is a lovely, well established restaurant on Main Street in Kent. The menu is quite creative and has a nice selection of appetizers, sandwiches and entrees. We took our granddaughter there for her 21st birthday and she chose the special, a blue cheese crusted steak. We also had chicken pot pie, a staple on the menu as is an awesome pork chop. We will definitely go back to Bistro on Main....a very pleasant experience of food, ambiance and wait staff
Had a birthday dinner here with 7 friends and everything was great! We made our reservation online with no trouble and heard back quickly. The restaurant was very accommodating, and the service was great. I am in the service industry and Ill admit our party can be a lot to handle as we ask a lot of questions, drink and have some fun and our server took it all in stride! Although the menu is a bit pricey (not unreasonable) the food was delicious and the portions were huge, every person in our party had leftovers, i was even offered a free dessert for my birthday (: there was live music which was unexpected but was not overbearing and added to the atmosphere. Two of our friends who were with us that night had a bad experience here before but were convinced otherwise by the time we left! Ive lived in the area for 5 years and had always wanted to try this place and we will definitely be back!
A favorite go-to away from downtown for the outstanding menu and daily specials. Weve been dining at Bistro for last 3 years and NEVER a negative experience with menu items, wait time, staff, patrons or parking. BOMs atmosphere is low light, music playing, cozy booths and staff are always personable and helpful!
Really great place for indoor dining, I look forward to returning after the pandemic. But I have placed a couple carryout and delivery orders and each has been a disaster. Takes hours to prepare, missing items, no communication through delivery apps. Recommended avoiding carryout.
This place is beyond confusing: the prices are so beyond what they’re serving, which honestly isn’t much. There’s this faint smell of Brussels sprout farts throughout the whole restaurant and good luck getting into the bathroom. But honestly what caused me to make a post was this awful coat rack. They claim to be pretty much a 4-5 star restaurant but they have the most random stuff in the coat area and you can’t really get to it. Haven’t ate here in years only pick up food here, but every time I do it’s a nightmare. Go elsewhere for “fancy food”.
Bistro on Main recently catered our daughter’s wedding. The food really stood out with several guests stating it was the best they have had at a wedding. The beef brisket, au gratin potatoes and wedding soup were phenomenal! The portions were plentiful and the prices were reasonable. The extra touches of homemade bread with maple black-pepper butter and lemon and mint infused water were so appreciated. Thank you Aaron and Jen. You did a great job!!
My wife and I finally made a stop for dinner here after a long week on the road. Atmosphere is great and comfortable. Staff was a winner from the hostess to the wait staff. Smiles everywhere and GREAT personalities. Our waitress Hannah was awesome. This girl rocks. Knowledgeable about the menu and she followed up every step of the way without being overwhelming. The food was amazing. Flavor, presentation, portion was incredible. You can tell the chefs take pride in their creations and its as much art work as it is delicious. Great bar area. Limited seating but you are comfortable and able to have a normal conversation. One of the best places I have been to in a long time. Our new go to restaurant. My wife and I recently went for date night on Wednesday. As always staff and service was great. What a great meal and experience for $40You guys are awesome..
Bistro has phenomenal food and mixed drinks. For Valentines Day my husband had the pot roast, it looked delicious. I had the halibut. It was super moist, flakey, smooth and almost melted in my mouth. First time I had ever had halibut, and it wont be the last. Hubby had a couple whiskey sours, strong and delicious. I had a their hibiscus drink special. Im not a gin person but the gin with the hibiscus shaken so it had a little froth across the top was splendid. They put dried hibiscus flowers over the drink. Added a nice subtle flavor to it. It was so smooth and frothy paired nicely with my fish.In the past weve had the plaintan nachos, really enjoyed them. The black and blue salad is not only tastey but beautiful. Chef Aaron along with family and staff have a great thing going. Food, service, atmosphere - the total package. Its one of my favorite local places.
This is a shining example of what a bistro should be: unpretentious yet delicious food served in unique but simple dishes. Depending on what kind of meal youre after, the prices here can range from pretty darn reasonable to special occasions only. The Monday Night burger special is a steel!
Youre only as good as the last visit. We got seated rather quickly. After sitting there for ten minutes with out any service we left. On the way out the girl that seated us told us to have a nice night.Weve been there before and it was ok. Itll probably be a long time before we go back if we do.
I wanted to like this place more than I did. Its trying to be fancier than it needs to be. The food was pretty good, but there were bad choices in every dish. The blue cheese salad was tasty, but it was served in a high sided bowl that made it a pain to eat - fishing the toppings out of the bottom of the bowl. The spinach pappardelle was conceptually a nice dish, featuring house made pasta. Unfortunately, the pasta was overcooked and badly underseasoned and three or four spinach leaves were a sad attempt. If you execute, it could be really nice. Maybe Ill try again, but Im not rushing back.
I went here a few weeks ago thanks to a friend making a great recommendation! Our table of 4 walked out very happy with our meals and service! We sat in the bar area and our server was very attentive and friendly! The portions are great and the food was cooked perfectly. To start, the plantain nachos and brussel sprouts are amazing!! I ordered the salmon entree and it was delicious! I cant wait to go back!
Last Saturday I planned a Valentines dinner surprise for my wife, Sandy.I contacted Bistro on Main Kent, Ohio through DoorDash to deliver the food. Placed the order before Bistro opened around 1 pm for a 6-6:30 pm delivery. Everything was confirmed, as I received an email confirmation. Later, around 5 pm, I had the table set with white linens, red candles, etc. I checked my email again and DoorDash confirmed the delivery for 6:15 pm. Then at 6pm, I received another email saying the restaurant was closed and my order was cancelled. I was devastated. It was after 6 pm and no dinner was on its way. So, I called Bistro on Main. They were open! I asked to talk to a owner. I spoke with Jennifer and explained what happened. She said she would fix it. I told her what I had ordered. She said they were extremely busy but would have the chef prepare my order and have someone from the Bistro deliver our Valentines dinner. 7:15 pm the dinner not only arrived piping hot, but desserts and champagne were thrown in for good measure. Jennifer, Thank you so much, for making it a wonderful Valentines Day celebration! And by the way, the food was OUTSTANDING!!
2 out of the 4 dinners were great! Hanger steak meal was so small for $24. It seemed more of an appetizer maybe 4oz. The side was sautéed red onion and potato and had no color from being cooked. It was disappointing and mentioned to our server. Like I said, 2 of our meals were great so I know they can put out good food just expected all meals to be that good.
My wife brought home the smoked brisket family meal feeds 4 to 6. I gotta tell ya it was about the best smoked brisket ever. Portion size was huge. Melt in the mouth flavor. If you can’t eat out eat in and the Bistro is the on the top of my list. The reason I don’t have a photo is because we devoured it before remembering to take a pic.
We go to the Bistro about 3-4 times per year. Taco specials and the shrimp and brisket tacos (separate) are incredible. Have never had a bad or even mediocre dish there. Support your local businesses during this crazy time. Blows every other restaurant near them out of the water; even getting food take out! Thanks BOM!
This was my first time eating at BOM. The chef creates wonderful dishes with the best flavors. Quite a different, but nice menu. All pasta is incredibly homemade. I will definitely be back. We sat outside on the patio with a fireplace and nice atmosphere. Our server, Jaymee, was great - friendly and helpful.
Have been wanting to come here for awhile but had not had a chance. My husband and kids are all doing something or out of town so I went by myself. I never eat alone like that. But the atmosphere was totally comfortable if u are alone or with friends! The food was stupid amazing! I had nothing but appetizers and was totally Blown Away. Scallops in the brown butter with butternut squash risotto insane! Buffalo calamari with warm blue cheese dressing was completely nuts! And finally a blackened fish taco that melted in my mouth! I know Im really going on and on but Ive been wanting to go to this place and I finally did and loved every bit of it also had two drinks a Blackberry bumble strong but very good. And a Blackberry mojito thats not even on the menu that she threw together for me was delicious! I cannot wait to take my husband back!! Definitely reasonably priced for the quality! Oh and my server Nancy love her!
This was our first visit to The Bistro. The food was delicious. We decided to do appetizers and desserts. We chose the cheese board for one app. The cheese were served at the correct temperature to bring put their flavors. I could have eaten the fig jam by itself. The brisket fries were our second app. The smoked brisket was tender and well smoked. The bbq sauce was just spicy enough the bring a kick but not overwhelm. I had the cucumber cooler as my beverage. It was bright and refreshing just as I had hoped. We skipped entrees so we could indulge in desserts. I ordered the pecan pie with bourbon sauce and my husband ordered the white chocolate cheesecake. The pie was packed with pecans and just the right sweetness. The cheesecake was smooth and dense. The pistachio crust was perfectly crunchy. The wait staff was attentive and helpful at answering our menu questions. We will return when in Kent, Ohio.
Our food was fantastic. Service was great. We were even seated in lost zone but didnt get lost by wait staff. Atmosphere is pleasing. You can enjoy your meal & conversations with your persons w/out obnoxious decor & overly loud background music. We thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. Pricing was fine... go cheap & weap. If you want cheap, go to McDonalds dollar menu. This was not outrageously priced by any means. You may want to call ahead for reservation if going during busy time.
Great meal. Menu consists of various new American offerings. Would love to see some additional variation and options for more affordable small plates. Had a couple of different cocktails, which were both tasty and well made. Excellent service all around and staff was eager to accommodate on what was a very busy evening.
It was my first time at this location tonight and its safe to say Im smitten. As simple as the menu is, I must admit I still struggled to choose just one meal; luckily I had a cute, pixie-cut waitress to entertain my bizarre request of choosing my meal for me. Everything was exceptional: food, service, environment—you name it. I dont know how I lived so close to this jewel this long without visiting. Highly recommend stopping in at least once if youve been missing out on this place as well.
Aaron L. Ruggles is a sad excuse for a restaurant owner. He is a rude, impolite, and entitled POS. He treated my group like absolute garbage. After only 5 minutes of being there, he came over and separated our table with no warning - causing our belongings to fall onto the floor. After asking who he was, he said said he was the dishwasher. After our waiter informed us he was in fact the owner, we had no choice but to leave. I feel terrible for the hosts, servers, and bartenders who work under this arrogant man. I wouldn’t recommend this place to the devil.
Just passing through town on our way back to New York, and stopped at Bistro on Main by chance. What a surprise. The food was excellent. The drinks ( I drink martinis) was perfect. The service was friendly and efficient. The prices reasonable. The atmosphere friendly and comfortable. I cant say enough how we enjoyed our meal at Bistro on Main.
Everything is tasty with a good coupon, but this is the first restaurant in a while both my wife and I were extremely pleased with. Usually she orders great and I order OK.We had the salmon (killer) and the mushroom pasta (awesome). Dessert was donuts and coffee (good).Im not quick to give 5-stars to anything but really... we couldnt have asked for more. Definitely worth checking out if you can afford it.
Nice atmosphere. Food is great, though a little pricy for the portion they give you. I know its trying to be upscale but was hoping for a slightly bigger portion. We got an appetizer and dessert so we were plenty full. Knocked a star off because our waitress tended to forget about us as we were in a corner and my boyfriends cucumber infused vodka cocktail was just awful.
Came to BOM based on a friends great reviews and it did not disappoint! Tried the Mushroom and Arugula pizza, I have had many similar pizzas but nothing that stood out like this! The maple balsamic vinaigrette was spectacular and unique. I almost wish I had tried one of the specials, they were to die for (and the hostess was beyond polite and super confident in describing the specials!) Great experience.
This is a little hole-in-the-wall restaurant which is a good indicator that the food will be good! There is a wide variety of food options, but they are a little on the pricey side. The crab cakes are good, no shells left in the cakes. The vegetables are cooked perfectly. The green beans and zucchini/squash mix was AMAZING. I would definitely return, but it would need to be for a special occasion.
Never Going BackOur service was terrible. Our server never even stopped by after our entrees were served to ask how our food was. Our dishes were criminally bland and definitely needed salt and pepper (which are not provided on the table). My husbands pasta was so undercooked it was visibly stiff. After 10 minutes of waiting for our server to stop by we went up to the bar to ask for salt and pepper so we could eat our food. They are charging fine dining prices and giving drive-thru quality service and food.
Had an amazing time! The food was great, every bite was like a party in my mouth lol and our server Jamie was a doll and too good care of us. People say its a bit pricey but there are things priced for those on a budget and other dishes that are expensive but worth every bite! Those of you that are looking for a dining experience this is it, I cant wait to go back!
Weve had some great meals here but tonight was simply bad. It was over 10 minutes before our first drink arrived, 20 minutes after that, our appetizer came out. The calamari was delicious but after another 40 minutes, our entrees still hadnt arrived so we left hungry and now Im making pasta at home.
I like to visit about once a month or so. My experiences have been consistently positive. Good atmosphere, attractive and delicious food, and reasonable prices for the quality you get. The only reason I did not give 5 stars, is that Id prefer a more diverse wine selection.
Saturday October 6th I hosted a baby shower at Bistro On Main. I cannot begin to express my gratitude for Aaron, Krista and Tony. Aaron was so accommodating when it came to menu planning. His suggestions for the menu that was being served to a group of ladies for lunch was perfect. Not only was the food delicious it was plated and served in such a way that made it not only quick and convenient but also elegant and sophisticated.Krista and Tony were absolutely FANTASTIC. There was not a need or want that went unaddressed. They were so kind and helpful during the set up. Kristas experience with larger groups and parties was evident from the start. She anticipated and planned ahead for everything. Krista and Tony went above and beyond in helping greet, seat and serve the party guests. During the entire event there was not an empty glass of water, a glass of wine or a cup of coffee that needed a requested refill. They were ON IT !!!! The food was served in a timely fashion. They did a superb job slicing and serving the cake. They boxed up all the ladies leftovers and had them ready for everyone at the end of the shower. They were excellent in assisting with taking down and clearing the room after the party. From the initial baby shower planning phase through menu planning, decorating and execution of the event I COULD NOT HAVE ASKED FOR MORE. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Bistro on Main and Aaron and his staff for anything from a casual lunch to a special dinner, a party or corporate event. They were amazing!!! THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING.
This is one of those places where every dish uses the same 3-4 ingredients. Its good, but its crazy how everything tastes the same. My favorites? Crispy brussel sprouts, garden veggie burger and the plantain nachos. Food always tastes fresh but service is questionable. They hire a lot of students from Kent State who are generally rude and uninterested.
Scallops and garlic mashed potatoes were excellent. Attentive waitress who was helpful, friendly and interested in providing great service even beyond the dinner rush when so many servers are catching their breath and inadvertently fail to deliver prompt service: applies to the kitchen as well.
Stopped for lunch around 2pm on a Wednesday. No one at hostess station, went to bar area a waited a minute before anyone showed up to great us. Finally were seated and were served fairly well. Food was fresh and excellent (scallop entre was a little expensive at $30 for 4). Decor is a little dated but clean and cosy.
Came in for a family birthday party. Service was amazingly slow. 3 hours for the meal. Burgers were dry and overcooked, Philly tasted like it had sat out for an hour, and the salmon was cooked to a paste . Sadly this is the second time I have been here ( the first was 4 years ago) and service was the same. Wont be back
Food was enjoyable, I had one of the pizzas and I thought the portion size was spot on, because there was enough that I was able to fill up and take a couple slices home for an evening snack. The only issue we had when were there was that the service was a bit slow, I think we waited an hour for our food.
Had reservations and waited an hour and a half for our group to get their food. Service was lousy, although i dont blame the waitress at all. We were informed that there was another large group so they were taking up all their time. It was a very special occasion and our experience almost ruined it. We will never return.
Excited to try BOM sadly not very impressed. Ordered a spicy Sicilian pizza for lunch the wait time was about standard 15-20 for pizza. Waitress stopped to refill our drinks and apologize about the wait and informed us they had to remake our pizza because it the first one was burnt. About another 10 minutes pass and our food finally comes. The bottom was still burnt on this new pizza and as for it being a spicy Sicilian there was nothing spicy about this pizza at all. Certainly not going to be returning customers.
Forgettable. Pleasant workers and the food and drinks were just ok, not mind-blowing. Not someplace Id go out of my way to eat or drink at. I went there for specials, however upon arrival they decided not to have any specials.... what a let down. Would have sampled and spent a lot more if the regular specials were still on. The pizza (the italian one I believe i what I tried) is not worth ordering. However, other menu items were ok. Drinks are fine. Nothing really stands out. It probably has decent meats, like steaks and lamb, but there are several options nearby that could compete in that respect.
The Bistro on Main is undoubtedly the best & most underrated restaurant in Kent. This place is in such a weird location, on the kind of gross part of 59 near all the car dealerships... but its is truly an exceptional spot. The food here is SO GOOD, period, & that makes it worth coming back to over & over & over... & over. Ive been coming here since they opened nearly a decade ago, & its still among my favorites in the area. Their menu changes with some regularity, but as I write this, Im a big fan of their plantain nachos (so unusual!), crispy Brussels sprouts (OH MY GOD), adult mac & cheese (theres lobster in it!), sweet potato gnocchi (one of the most delicious dishes Ive ever tasted)., & the adult cherry coke (mmm, whiskey). The atmosphere is quaint & perfect for a meal with your parents or with a date.Occasionally, you can snag a good deal on Groupon, which helps bring down some of the high prices (again: the food is WORTH IT), & they have great nightly specials. On Wednesdays, they host The Original Cheap Date Night, your choice of six pizzas or three pastas, two salads, & a pitcher of draft beer or bottle wine, plus dessert for two... all for $35. Cant beat that!If youre staying at the hotel in Kent, the Bistro will send a shuttle to pick you up for dinner! I love that theyve implemented this creative service to help make up for their less-than-ideal, off-the-main-drag location. And if youre not visiting from out of town? You have no excuse not to drive over to the Bistro on Main & eat your little heart out.
I had bought a groupon and they were very strict about how to use it. So we got there and it took them 10 minutes to get to the table to get us drinks. Then it took 10 more minutes before they came back to take our order. They took our order and 45 minutes later she came back and said that they had burnt my boyfriends pizza and thats why it was taking so long. So she offered to buy us a salad. Then another 15-20 minutes later we actually got our food. It was not good. Ive tried this place twice now and both times I had horrible service and the food was not very good. I wont be going back.
Weve gone there two times. First time we had a discount there and the food was ok for the price. The ribs were very good. Salmon was ok.Second time, 2 people were horribly sick after ordering the ribs again. I called to notify the restaurant, left a message, and never heard back from them.It has potential, but were never going back.
MAGA great food with Maga great service. The freshly prepared food with chef specials added weekly will have you feeling presidential, like A real Winner, like A very stable genius deserving of Two Scoops. Vote Trump 2020 so the demoncratic socialists dont ruin America and take away our freedom to eat great burgers and steaks. The Bistro on main is sooo great and cooks such A great steak if Trump were to visit hed build A wall around it!
Its a bit pricey for a college town but theyre not really looking to serve the college crowd anyways. Its filled with professors and other luminaries of the Kent State scene. The Chef & Owner has done a great job of adding an upscale restaurant to an otherwise wasteland of lesser restaurants in the immediate area. I especially enjoy the Adult Mac n Cheese with huge chunks of tasty lobster.
Went for lunch. I got half of a sandwich and soup. The soup was chicken and corn chowder. It was flavorless like thick water with a few corn kernels and one tiny strip of chicken. The sandwich was chorizo meatloaf, caramelized onions and chipotle sauce on a ciabata. It was very slightly spicy, very sweet and very messy. It was a bit light on flavor but not bad overall. The decor is nice, but there were flies buzzing around and annoying us the whole time we were eating.All-in-all it wasnt terrible. I wont go back, but I wouldnt warn others against going there.
Dinner Saturday night was very disappointing. The are no vegetarian nor vegan entrees offered. I choose a pizza without cheese, the toppings skimpy, portobellos almost nonexistent, and the tomatoes were canned! Who does that? I expected at least a scattering of fresh tomato. Tried my friends sweet potato gnocchi which was dense and gummy, badly prepared. In all, a miserable meal.
The food here is well above average for the price point, as are the liquor pours. The service, on the other hand, is not. Bathroom situation can become very irritating during busier times as there is literally one toilet in the entire restaurant for customers. Not ideal.

2022-02-07Very nice casual restaurant! About half of the seating is located around the bar with the other half of the seating in a quieter atmosphere. We went on a Saturday night and they were very busy. Waited about there thirty minutes... which is typical.Once we were seated service was very friendly and prompt. The food was very good. And they have a kids menu. My son ordered the cheeseburger and he was pleasantly surprised that it was a full size burger. We had the pasta and some tacos. For an appetizer we had the brisket nachos... that could have been a meal by itself.Prices are above average, but the food justified the little extra cost.

2022-01-09My family really enjoyed this place last night. Appetizers and food were excellent. My wife and I got the scallops, and kids got pizza and wings. Server was very friendly. The only thing keeping it from a 5 star, is that the service was slow. However they WERE very busy, and possibly understaffed (seems to be the norm these days). We would definitely go back.

2022-04-15Went for my birthday dinner and we had a party of five and received great service! As soon as there was a dirty dish our server cleared it which it is nice to not have a stack of dirty dishes at your table. Everyone enjoyed their food! I got the Beef Brisket

2021-10-24Wonderful dining experience! The interior is very nice, upscale and comfortable. Service was excellent and our server was very knowledgeable about the menu. I had the smoked wagyu, meatloaf sandwich and it was delicious. Outstanding cocktail menu and decent beer menu that should make most beer drinkers happy. The night we went they had live entertainment and it was great was well. If you need a break from the typical Kent college dining experience and want something more upscale then I cannot recommend the Bistro enough!

2021-08-30Well first off, this place has the most beautiful ladies restroom Ive ever been in LOL. I had a really nice time. They had a sign up front saying that they were short-staffed and to be patient but to be honest, they had better service than most of the places that say they are short staffed. I didnt get any food that night but I could tell the wait staff was really great and the food looked delicious. There was wonderful entertainment there, as well, which is hard to find right now. I will be back over and over again!

2022-05-09This place is fantastic. Always excellent service, great atmosphere, and real, creative food. Every time we’ve been here, nothing disappoints. Drinks are strong and everything is so fresh and delicious! We’ve gotten their spicy pepperoni pizza which is drizzled with a spicy honey, and it’s quickly become a favorite.Saturday nights have had live entertainment the last couple visits. The last time we were there the entertainment was awesome. A crooner doing Sinatra style tunes in the bar area.Easily one of our favorite places in town!

2022-01-18Service was okay. The food good but the price is a bit more then I think it is worth. The cocktails would be the reason to go. I got the adult cherry coke is was epic. But the spiked cherries themselves with get you tippin.

2022-07-16Great tasting cheese plate!! Only downside was my 36 dollar strip steak hitting the table 4 minutes after my app, so steak was mostly cold by time we worked our way to our entrees, never offered dessert 🍨 🥧 🍦It called coursing... something every server should know...Will probably go back to give them a 2nd go at it... food tasted great, flavor profile wise, although the spicy salami as the server called it was mild at best...
