Typically a great experience. Went on Fathers day with the grandkids, unfortunately there had been a considerable amount of rain prior so the river was high and running fast. When we were checking in, we were advised for the kids safety not to go out. So kudos to the management for thinking safety over profit! Looking forward to going back when the river settles down.
The older gentlemen with the glorious, white beard was great. Very humorous, fairly laid back, and knew how to start a trip off right. The equiptment was clean and well kept. The 5.2 mile route was great and even though the river was low I didnt have to get out and walk in any parts. Overall it was a wonderful experience, fair prices, good location, and I would for sure go back.
Had a great time, water was a little too low had to get out and push often and I really wish they would clean up some of the fallen trees and logs that make some of it a little dangerous. But definitely fun and beautiful. Ciyack would be a the best option under these circumstances.
They do a fine job. The owner is (seemingly) purposefully aggressive / abrasive towards everyone supposedly to make sure he gets his stuff back - honestly Im sure they deal with some obnoxious teenagers and stuff but it wasnt especially enjoyable being treated like one. Im sure well come back cuz there arent many options in the area but cant do five stars.
Great stretch of the river but the guy who drives the bus showed up late and set our whole day back. They tell you to show up 45 minutes early because it might take that long or longer for the bus driver to show up! Great time, great stretch of river, but i didnt appreciate the nonchalant disregard for our time. Definitely go, also definitely have patience that day.
The owner is rude for no reason. Watched him rip into this lady and their group for being late to the point the lady was about in tears. Wasnt even me and Ill be going to Tipp City from now on. Hopefully that lady got a refund for how he was acting. Truly sad to see people treat others like that.
I am only giving this place 2 stars because our bus driver was very nice and apologized for the insane behavior of the owner. I was there with a group of 10 people for a 30th birthday party, we arrived at 10:42 for our reservation at 11. The owner was yelling at our group of adults through a megaphone then proceeded to keep yelling at us as we all sat on the bus ready to go. We had to leave without 2 members of our group who were only a few minutes away. He was very very rude and has zero customer service skills. The river is nice and the canoes are in fine shape. However, he made the start of the day very unpleasant and we will never be going back.
Had a blast, we went on memorial day, it was absolutely packed full of people! But they did a great job keeping everything organized. Took about 3 hours from loading on the bus to getting back to our car. Was plenty of time on the river for us. We will definantly come back again this summer. We had a blast !!
Ive been canoeing with this company several times over the years with no issues. Recently, my spouse and I scheduled a kayaking trip. I work in healthcare and had to reschedule due to issues at work relating to the pandemic causing me to be called in. The day before our newly scheduled date, we found out I had been exposed to COVID-19. We called the company to let them know and were told that we could not reschedule again. We called the owner to explain our predicament and were told to follow up with an email to him and he would ensure we would receive a refund.Today, we received another email from the company saying the owner we spoke to did not know we had already rescheduled and that the best they could do for us was let us come in later today. I called the company and spoke to the owner again as the entire reason we reached out to him in the first place was to explain the extenuating circumstances that led us to cancel and that we are attempting to follow guidance from the Governor and the state department of health. He continued saying he was following policy despite his staff asking us to come in and potentially expose his staff and at least 20 other customers on the bus to the river drop off. He was incredibly rude during the conversation continually cutting me off and telling me he had no way of knowing if I was being truthful and that I could be a bad person.I will not be returning to this establishment. The owner has made it clear that his bottom line is more important to him than the welfare of his staff and customers.
It was ok. It appeared very disorganized. We were dropped off at the launch site and waited about 15-20 minutes for them to bring the kayaks. Once the kayaks were brought they were pretty much thrown off the back of the truck as we were told the driver was “running very late.” The water was very low and there were a lot of obstacles in the way.
We had a great time. Very accommodating at check-in. Luckily we knew where to pull in because we were not advised ahead of time. It would have been nice with a little more help getting our kayak in the water. When we finally got the kayak to the water someone did help us get it in the water but Im not sure if was staff or just a nice guy.
My friends and I went here for the first time this month. We have canoed and tubed on the Little Miami River MANY times in Morrow, but never in the Dayton area. Their prices are very on-par with what we are used to paying. To our surprise, they did accept credit cards, which pleased me. Once we saw how tiny their facility was, we were not hopeful they would. The office staff were courteous to us and gave us the run down on what to expect. Please be aware they did not provide us with life vests, so if that is something important to you, you may want to bring your own or inquire about rental/if they have them. I am not entirely sure.Once paid, I was a little shocked that we would have to wait almost an hour for transport, but it wasnt a huge deal. We allotted plenty of time for our trip. There is also no where to wait/hang out while waiting for transport. They have shelter areas, but you have to pay to rent them. If there is another free spot to hang out, I missed it and apologize for that. We just ended up sitting near/in our vehicles. We were transported to a drop-off area on the side of the road, which required us to walk down a path of trampled grass and mud through the woods to get to the river. If thats off-putting to you, please just know that is to be expected. The trip itself was enjoyable. It met our expectations. My biggest gripe is this: Please know this is a very small business in the middle of a wooded area. There is no indoor plumbing. They have several port-a-potties available for use. There is no where to change clothes once you get off of the river. I refused to go inside a port-a-potty and set my clean clothes down in there. I ended up changing in the car, while my friends placed towels on all of the windows, which sufficed, but was not completely ideal.I rated this middle ground as I believe there can be improvements, however I do not deem this place poor quality or a bad place to go. I understand this is a small business that runs off limited funds. I dont expect a lavish state-of-the-art facility. I do not know if Ill return, as I would like to try other liveries in the area, but its still an option for our next trip.
It was a great pice cheaper than the other places around. But, the guy driving the bus was not very helpful. He said the water was low which was true but the tips he gave us, we had to do the complete opposite. Ex: at the rapids he said to stay left and that didnt work. Obviously he hadnt been out very recently. My advice is to only bring yourself or put all your stuff in plastic bags taped shut. If you dont canoe much 5 miles is a lot.
I would not recommend this place for beginners, there is multiple obstacles in the water and they also put too many inexperienced people in the water at once. Our group was two large bus loads. That staff was also very unprofessional and not informative at all. I’ve grown up canoeing and have been mainly kayaking a few years now and found some obstacles difficult to navigate. I’ve been to other canoe/kayak rentals and have never had this bad of an experience. They drop you off, throw your kayak off the trailer and you are left to do the rest yourself. For someone with no experience this would be difficult.
Bellbrook Canoe Rental is a great place to take your family! If you’re unsure about anything just be sure to call and they will give you all the details. Extremely helpful staff, and the trip is perfect for beginners. A great activity to do with your friends and family, and a great way to stay socially distanced. Booking online was quick and easy!
This was a great experience, but there were two things that I was not greatly satisfied with. The first is that I wish the price was lower. The second was when we were on the bus and the man who gave the speech did not have a mask on and it does not look like this company requires face masks on the bus. It was very awkward that my friend and I were one of the few people wearing masks. I do like that the bus driver was wearing a mask. As for canoeing, it was great! I will be returning to canoe again.
This is a great place to go canoeing. Im a single mother and I love taking my kids out on the river. The equipment is safe and in great condition. The staff is amazing, family orientated and we love chatting with them while we await our bus. Whatever level the river is or the weather, we always have a blast. Its always what you make of it, and Bellbrook Canoe Rental has it down to a fine science!
Life jackets are moldy and old. Customer service is iffy. They take you to the drop off zone, take the canoes and kayaks off the trailers, dont help get them in the water, do not give info for any tricky areas which there were a couple. Water was low at 4 spots, requiring to get off of the kayak to pull it through. We got stuck on some bigger rocks with quick water, which could have been dangerous. We were stuck and my wifes paddle got caught in between rocks when trying to help free us and broke which we understood we would have to pay for. Just wish someone would have let us know how to attack that part of the river. No one to help get you out of the water and instruction on what to do with kayaks or vests when you get off of the river. It is simply a cash grab and we will not be returning.
Great experience every time. The staff is friendly and funny. The staff took the canoes from the trailer to the water, so all we had to do was relax and have a good time. The other customers were nice as we floated down the river together. I will come back time and time again. Thanks to all.
We did a family trip here for the two hour tubing with 2 adults and a 6 and 9 year old. Everything was fine until they dropped us off on the side of the road to hike through an unkempt trail to a drop off into the water. When I say a drop off, Im being literal, there is not an easy way into the water with children. Additionally one of our tubes was halfway deflated, when we pointed this out to the driver he pretty much had an oh well response. So be aware. I dont recommend this place for tubing, I have canoed here and it was great, however. I will say the check-in staff were great, the float was very relaxing, they just need to check their equipment and provide a better entrance to the water.
Let me start by saying if you have a lot of experience with a canoe, kayak, etc, this place might be great for you. For our group which didnt have a lot of experience and with kids on the trip, it was awful. I went with my daughters girl scout troop and very few of us really knew a lot about canoeing.Lets start with the drop off, they take you in a bus and drop you at a launching point, take the canoe off the trailer and put it on the ground. Its up to you after that to get the canoe in the water, get the kids in the canoe and launch. No instructions, no help, just a drop off.Second, make sure you check the weather and dont trust the livery to monitor. When we showed up it was blue skies, once in the bus on way to launch, it got a little grey, but 20 minutes into the trip it was pouring rain, lightning, thundering, flash flooding, etc. The little Miami turned into a nasty place to be. The weather is not the canoe rental places fault, but their website says weather permitting, so our assumption was they would not allow a girl scout troop to leave if a large thunder storm was moving in. Our assumption was wrong. We launched at 3:00 p.m. and our phones (back in the cars) all had the thunderstorm warning posted at 2:45 p.m. We had no way of knowing what we were getting into. The weather was so bad, we flipped canoes, had parents frantically swimming after children being whisked away in very fast water, being hit with debris, tree limbs falling and injuring people due to wind, whole trees falling into the river, and lightning hitting a couple hundred yards from us with no way to escape. At the end of our 3.5 hour trip (which shouldve only been 90 minutes), the staff had the nerve to ask How was your trip? and then proceed to complain about the number of canoes still out since it was close to their closing time. They had no comprehension or compassion for their customers who just endured hell and who may be injured and still out on the river. We assumed based on their website with the family owned and family friendly wording, that we would be in good hands with children, but they appear to cater mainly to adults with significant experience. We had several children in the troop that this was their first time in a canoe and unfortunately this will probably also be their last time based on our experience.
The river is beautiful and the office staff are friendly. However, this is not for beginners, and not for children. If you have not canoed or kayaked before, please be aware, they do not offer ANY instruction, or guidelines, they literally give you a boat and oars and set you 5 miles upstream from the office and tell you to be back before 6 pm. Even if you ask for a guide or directions, they really dont tell you anything except to bring back the boats. The river is not deep, but it does move fairly quickly in spots and there are MANY huge trees and logs under the water and criss-crossing the river. Some are easy to get around, some were not. We saw 3 canoes flip over.
First let me say I would rate our skill level below moderate. This is one of the easiest rivers to canoe or kayak on. We were on the river 5.29.16. We postponed our trip the day before because we checked the radar and saw thunderstorms coming. As it turned out, they did not materialize in our area. Always on the water, better safe than sorry. Water can be deadly. Safety is the number one concern. I would never trust our safety to assumptions or a third party ( in reference to the Girl Scout Troop). The river is clean. The water shallow. The banks scenic. The rapids which are really just big ripples take nothing more than common sense to maneuver.I will say this is a recreation meaning FUN. I think in the future they could work on their launch site. The canoes are dropped and it is your job to get it and all of your party in the water. The difficulty of this backs up the line at the launch site. I have been with senior citizens and this part of the trip has been rather treacherous for them. The families with small children in front of us had quite a bit of difficulty. It would add to the customer service to have the men unloading the canoes to aid people into the canoes. Yesterday, after standing in line a while, we were informed the kayaks were in the second trailer and we needed to go and get them.Back in reference to the Girl Scout troop, ITS A RIVER. NATURE. Trees fall in the water. But what were you thinking taking a group of young girls and inexperienced adults on a 5 mile river trip?! And not even taking responsibility for checking radar for weather 2-3 hours out? If your cell phones are locked in your car, how are you going to call for help if you need it? Do you really think a pop up weather alert on your phone is a wise choice when the safety of so many children is on the line?
Worst canoe run Ive ever been on and Ive been across this country canoeing and rafting. Overpriced for the short run that it is. Not to mention, the smart comments by the owner on the dos and donts of his establishment. Hes not funny more just condescending than anything else. He thinks his guests are all stupid. And being the advance party for a larger group we are definitely going somewhere else. Just to let you know there are more canoe rentals in this area.
I own my own kayaks, so I dont rent from this company, but I do use the same stretch of river as Bellbrook Canoe Rental. There is very little respect given to those not renting from them. They hog the entry ramp and pretty much the entire river. The patrons polute the river with garbage and show very little regard for others around them. Their usage of the river is very selfish and has prompted my family to no longer use the same stretch of river in order to avoid this company. It has certainly been very disappointing to see what this company has done with such a beautiful river.
I will never return to this facility! My group and I were completely disrespected when returning our kayaks! Yes we did return them at 7:05pm which was 5 minutes past return time however we stopped several times to pick up other peoples trash who were on our same trip! The trash included a Smirnoff glass bottle, chip bags, and several opened and unopened cans of beer! Again we did return 5 minutes past return time but the gentleman greeting us stated leave your paddles, life jackets and kayaks there and be gone! Wow really!!! Ok not a problem! We will be gone and never return! My family and I have been going to Bellbrook Canoe Rental for 10+ years but that wont happen again! I would never take my kids or any other family member here ever again!
SUPER shallow water-perfect for young or inexperienced folks. This is NOT for cabrewing! The local rangers WILL give you a ticket or even arrest you (dependant upon criminal activity). The officer gives a speech about dont let me catch you and then the bus driver tells you its okay, as long as you dont litter or cause problems-which was a big lie!We will never be back to this particular area, as the water was too shallow and GOD forbid you drink a beer in the 3 hrs it takes you to float 5 miles!
My wife an I wanted to rent a canoe and decided to give this place a try. Overall, we had an excellent experience! The staff were very friendly and helpful, the prices were reasonable, and the rentals were in pretty good shape. The river was beautiful and I would come back again.
They have the nicest stretch of river in the Dayton area! The prices are very reasonable and the people are great. Their stretch of river is beautiful, and just right as far as level of difficulty. I rate my skills as moderate, and place my odds of capsizing on a trip at about 50:50. This is not a placid lake trip, but it is not a challenging course. Just right! There is a review posted that claims they have the highest prices. I just dont get it! Prices from all outfitters are based on the length of the trip. Bellbrooks standard trip is 5.2 miles and I find their prices for a trip of that length to be about average, if not a bit below. If you want to compare them to a 2 mile trip, you are going to think they are high. I do not understand the criticism.Bellbrook Canoe Rental has been a strong supporter of our family group. In that group, we usually get 20-30 canoes out on the river one day each summer. They have very friendly group prices if you plan in advance. They will really work with you.My one complaint is the equipment. It is getting a bit old, but it is well cared for and I have never had a bad experience. I dont feel it is bad enough to lose a star over, but dont be expecting a brand new canoe.I have taken trips out of Bellbrook on and off for nearly forty years, and at least once a year for the past five years. I give them two thumbs up!
We called a few days ahead and the office staff informed us to be there about 1:15 PM for our 2 PM tubing trip for which we placed a reservation. Day of the trip we parked on time and got up to the office building at 1:17 PM for the 2 PM trip. We were told that we were late and that we would not be able to go on the tubing trip. The gross inefficiency of their checkin process is the only reason that I can see for a 45 minute+ checkin requirement. We left Bellbrook Canoe and and had zero trouble getting a non-reserved same hour trip onto the river through Rivesedge which is only 10 minutes down the road. Highly recommend Riversedge based on the relative experiences.
This place was closed on May 6 th at 3 pm. We were really looking forward to a nice family time. We rushed around looking for water shoes for my husband and we showed up to an empty lot and closed signs. There was no warning of an early closure. Kinda ruined our afternoon
Drinking is prohibited on all Ohio ways, if you are caught with an open alcoholic beverage while sitting on the river you will get a ticket.. it is in a speech that we are all tired of giving, because we do it every hour on the hour. This is probably not the river to be on, if your coming to drink, the Rangers do monitor it pretty closely.
The owner told everyone on the bus, the parks and wildlife are going to give anyone holding a beer a dui for rowing a canoe! Scared everyone on the river and made it a terrible experience for most. He said if you want to drink go to mad river canoe rental. The owner also didnt give any instructions on river safety and told everyone if they didnt know how to row a canoe they should have looked it up on google before hand. I am a raft guide in Colorado and no matter what the river conditions are you give a basic river safety instruction. River safety is not something to joke about~bring back the old owner charlie
I will not return to this facility before the service is changed.I rented canoes in Virginia, too, about a month ago. Here is the comparison. The facility in VA did the following:1. Gave a Safety Video and QA Session for 15 minutes. (Explanation on how to find the returning location is included)2. Staffs helped with life jackets, water proof containers, etc. (Rather than let people find and pick them)3. Took people and canoes to the starting location by bus. And unloaded canoes.4. Staffs carried canoes to water and helped Launching canoes working in water.5. Staffs helped Fetching canoes. And the rental fee of Virginia was $4 lower per canoe.Bellbrook Canoe Rental did #3 for sure. The bus driver did #1 approximately. Did #5 for our one canoe but not for the other. With Bellbrook, customers will do #2, #4, and some #5 by themselves. We were unhappy with #4 and #5. (I have had a shoulder problem)Since the facility is close to my home, I am interested in returning but not before the service is changed.

2022-05-30I like it here. The owner is very straightforward - definitely show up 40 minutes before your reservation or you will not paddle. It is not a suggestion, but a requirement. We took our toddler out for her first time on the river and we all had a grand time. Her favorite part was “getting to ride on the school bus”, but she enjoyed the canoe trip too!

2021-06-26Loved this place! Decided at the last minute to call and see if they had openings, and they did! Got there checked in, loaded up and had guide explain the trip, which was absolutely beautiful! Do glad we went, puppy and all!

2022-05-31This was my first time going to Bellbrook Canoe. The experience was great. Nice and relaxing and everyone was very friendly. There are plenty of places to stop and hang out to make your trip longer and enjoyable. I highly recommend going and it is great for first timers. My only complaint (which does not effect the rating because I had a great time) was at the end of our adventure we were told to return our life vest. We were not given a life vest on our trip/told about it or stopped for not having one. I overheard a gentlemen tell this to who I will assume is the manager or the boss of the company say that some people are saying they did not get a life vest. The boss/manager started to complain about it. I spoke up and told him about our situation. Instead of hearing me he was talking over me, told me I wasnt listening and said I am tired of people thinking they know more than me referring to the laws and regulations about canoeing and kayaking. While I did not saying anything along the lines of me knowing more about what he does for a living; I was simply explaining to him my experience. It was great for him standing up for his employees and believing they are doing right but you know we all make mistakes and some information was is left out/forgotten about. From checking in, to gathering to get on the bus, to showing my wrist band, to listening to the three rules, and getting my paddle for my kayak I was not stopped once or in formed that I needed a life jacket. Also, there is no sign on the office stating you need a life jacket. Only mention of the cost of the life jacket in wavier if not returned. Moral of the story and to save you time just grab a life jacket even if it isnt mentioned to you that you need one. Save yourself a headache and potential cost of a life jacket.Other than that small hiccup the experience was great and I would go back in the future!! Thank you

2022-06-27If you value your money, respect, and dignity.. Do Not waste your money here. River was fun, but any interactions with the staff from beginning to end was substandard at best. Rude & disrespectful! Sorry I spent $260 of my hard earned money here.

2022-06-22My favorite place to canoe/kayak. Staff are friendly, and funny, nice flowing section of the river so you can paddle, or coast. I read some reviews about they gray bearded guy, but this had to be a matter or misperception. He has always been awesome anytime I have been there, but I can see how some may misinterpret his joking. Dont let those reviews scare you off!. It is not guided. They load and unload the kayaks/canoes, but you take them to the water, so some experience would be helpful in your group. All things considered, I would still absolutely recommend! They get busy, its a first come first serve type deal, so if you are running late, you may have to wait for the next hour, which I completely understand, they are a business after all.

2022-05-171st time Kayaking. It was a great experience. Went not knowing what to expect. You can bring your dog. They provide busing and equipment. The river was great. Ready for some extreme rapids.

2022-07-03Wonderful time on the river with family. Easy paddling for all experience levels. Would have given 5 stars if staff would have been more helpful and not rude.

2022-06-26The owner will go out of his way to cuss you out. Absolutely the worst establishment Ive ever been to . Spend over 120 and get cussed at upon returning from our trip. This guy needs his teeth smacked out of his mouth.

2022-06-20Great place. Definitely be ready by departure time because if you miss the send off youll have to wait an hour for the next run.

2018-12-05Ive came here twice and the first time was very relaxing, the second time would have been as well if it werent for all the inconsiderate young adults blaring music and yelling, drinking and littering in multiple different spots. I would have cleaned up the litter myself but I didnt want to be the one to get in trouble. Its not like anyone was going to get in trouble anyway though. I wanted to enjoy the quietness and beauty of nature but they made that extremely difficult.. the only good things about that trip was seeing a snake and bird family swimming towards/in front of us but then again they were probably trying to get away from all of the people.
