I have never been so frustrated. I reserved a vehicle online and had a reservation with a pick up time of 12pm. Due to work schedule, I wasnt able to pick up until later (3:30pm). No big deal- Ill still pay for the full day. But nope, they gave my rental away. No phone call, no email, nothing- just a too bad so sad. I travel 2-3 times monthly for work and wont be using this company again.
If I could give them a negative rating I would. Got caught behind an accident on Rt 33 on the way to pick up the car. I called ahead and told the man my name and the situation. He said no problem. It was Sunday the hours are 8-12. We got there at 11:50. The place was locked up. Even after I called him 40 minutes earlier telling him were on the way. Totally and completely screwed me. Tried to call today but all you get is a message saying the national customer support center as all can talk to. This location is joke, Avis is a joke. Dont use them.
If I could give them a zero, I would. I found a very good rate online and called the guy to confirm I was seeing it right! He confirmed the price and asked if Id like him to put my name in the computer to secure it for when I came in the next morning. I was pleased and agreed, although surprised he only took my name and number. I went in the next morning at 745am to complete the reservation and get the car...to my bewilderment, the guy quoted me DOUBLE the cost! I reminded him of the rate I found online yesterday and how I called to confirm and secure it. He then tells me that to get the online rates, I have to book there and not with him. Why did he not tell me this over the phone the day prior? Why act like he can help get the same rate? He also pretended he was not the one I spoke with initially, saying things like, I dont know why he did that (put the wrong date in). When I finally ask where the guy is that I spoke to, he then admits it was probably him! He insisted I lied to him about the dates I requested and was trying to get free days. He ignored the fact I took a screen shot of the price with the dates on it...said it meant nothing. Says he confirmed the dates with me-another lie. I informed him Im closing on a house and I have appointments, in another state, on dates after the supposed return date of the car. My mother was my ride and saw me flailing my arms in exasperation and came to check on me. She confirmed Id be gone 12 days without even knowing the conversation Id been having with the guy. He still refused to honor it, told me to book online (even tho the price went up $100 more since the day before), and would not discount it down even tho he misled me and caused me to miss the cheap rate. I left without a car. I never caught the guys name but he has shoulder length light red, wavy/curly hair. He is incredibly rude- smirks at you, laughs at you... absolutely the WORST customer service Ive ever had at a car rental business. As I left, I called Hertz and told them what happened and THEY matched the rate I found!
If there was anything below 1, I would love to give that.... This rating is for the location and the service they provide. Person who is working here does not know what is meant by customer service, worst support ever received. I reserved here through Costco, without actually looking at their rating - it was my bad. We picked the car at 12pm, noticed there was a notification on car for Oil change, when we went back to check on that they closed the door and did not open saying it is closed till 3pm. Even did not respond to any questions asked saying they are off!!! We returned the car on time, and the guy took 30 minutes to come and check the car - he charges us for 1 hour additional time!!! While returning the car, they said everything is perfect and after a week has charged $150 cleaning fee. We cleaned the car ourselves before returning, not sure why this fee was charged without even giving a notice (if I did not check my statement, I wouldnt have known!). When I called their office to enquire about this, the representative as expected was rude in response (what else could I have expected).
The worst customer service I have ever been through. The website says the pick up time is between 12am-12pm but here we are the office is closed and posts the business hours between 8-12p. How are we going to rent the car now and keep up with the flight in Chicago? The website info and the office business hours are in conflict. We had to rent the other day and we barely caught the flight. Secondly, when we returned the car there were no one to open the door even though we came @11:05am. Waited for 20 min calling customer services during this time what to do with the car key and why this service is messed up. If we would have waited desperately we would have been caused to pay for charges because apparently the office is closed. Now who is in charge of these mess? “Of course the customer always right! We had to think CRITICALLY and not trust the info in the website and investigate the business hours of the office. RIDICULOUS! As if all these plans are to make the customers pay for unexpected charges.
One of the top three worst customer service experiences I have ever been a part of unfortunately. They allowed us to book our car for a noon pick up which coincided with their exact closing time of noon. We showed up only to discover a locked door at the rental car office. We rebooked by phone with a live customer service agent for the next morning. They did not ask us to choose a particular time of pick up, simply said they are open at seven. We showed up at 9:30 only to realize they had rented our car to another customer. They said they didn’t think we were coming when we didn’t show up at 7. Our reservation was prepaid, which to me means that our paid- for car should be available at any point during the rental period that we purchased. So not only did they book our pickup for an impossible time, which was a massive inconvenience and cost us addition money because we had to use Uber all day, but to add insult to injury they gave our car away the next morning when we needed it to get to Cincinnati to catch a flight. No apology was offered. I have used this location in the past, but I will never make that mistake again.
We rented a SUV two weeks ahead of our vacation trip with insurance. My husband went to pick it up at the scheduled time and they told my husband they are out of cars. And sent us to the W broad location. We booked a SUV from this location and prepaid just for them not to have it ready. The W broad location gave us a SUV with the back seat seatbelts CUT out! We where leaving that night and couldn’t buckle our babies car seats. Also the car was dirty inside and the gas tank was given to us on E! We called the manager Eric who gave my husband the car at the W broad location. He told “i can’t help you”. And we where charged double on our card then what was pre booked! We are not trying to take this broken car to the airport to see if they are willing to give a car with SEAT BELTS! AWFUL EXPERIENCE. We will NEVER use this company again! Trying to run around last minute to get a working car so we can make our reservation on time! So unprofessional!
Never rent or return from this location through Avis or Budget!! TOBY is rude, he will cheat you, lie, and add or erroneous charges to your bill. He never checked my car, but charged me for gas after I just filled up, even more than when I picked up the car. Also, he said I could return the car at a different location for no additional charge and then I got a fee added onto my bill. Another time he lied and said I never put the keys in the drop box and tried to charge a towing fee!! He must get a kickback or something. It’s criminal what he’s doing. Please let me know if anyone is interested in getting in on a class action against Avis/Budget. I have already consulted an attorney.
I have used this Avis location for years and have always had a great experience. My needs are primarily for business and I rent 1 to 3 times per week. The treatment I receive is always a 10+. There are a couple of rental locations nearer to my home, but for the nicer cars and great service I receive, I always go to this Avis location.*UPDATE* I saw my review from several years ago and I continue to stand by my 5 Star rating. I have been using this location for years and have always had a great experience.
I wish I had paid attention to the negative reviews before renting a car.We booked a mini van for 12 PM. When we showed up to pick up the van, they said vehicle is not available for next 45 minutes atleast! AND when we complained in disappointment about delaying our plans, the guy at the desk compared this incident to flight delays! Instead of making things right for us, the guy said stupid things to justify. This is so rude and unprofessional.I would never recommend this location for car rentals. They really dont care about the timings.For being sure about our reservations, we had to visit the location 2 days before our travel date as they never pick up the calls, youll be transferred to their national headquarters.
The owner of the place Mr. Toby was very accommodating and friendly. He made the pick up and drop off process very smooth and easy. The vehicle he provided us was top notch and very clean. Ive rented cars from other car rentals but I must say that Ive never before received such commendable services and quality. Thanks a lot, Toby and keep up the good work and quality Avis. I highly recommend this rental location.
Rented a car on sunday, customer service was great, they got me into a car right away. Then after speaking to a few friends, I realized I was being over charged. I called in and explained everything to Toby and he agreed, thanked me for calling and changed the rates. Thanks.
Toby makes it fast and easy. Only problem that every happens is when he forgets to renew my month and Avis calls me relentlessly until he runs my card again. I love the rentals I get. I wish the Wizard numbers etc were easy to deal with as I am not sure any of my rentals are going to my wizard.Over all Avis is way more responsive for me than my National Emerald account.
I wish I had paid attention to the negative reviews before renting a car, but I decided to use this Avis office despite the reviews. First, I reserved a Suburban, and I received a Tahoe (which is not a comparable vehicle). Then, the car only had a half tank of gas. While we were using the Tahoe, we had to fold down seats and discovered a wide range of garbage that we had to clean up. When I returned the vehicle I made sure that there was more gas in it than when I received it. However, I was charge $67 for not returning it full. When I asked Mr. Shamblin, the manager, about it he said there was nothing he could do. I will be renting from another office in the future.
I possibly picked a bad time to pick up car. I was there at 12:55 PM for a car pick up recently (it was booked for 12:00 PM, i was held up during lunch). When I arrived, AVIS location was closed (possibly for lunch or the associate was out on errand). The clock outside said that person will be back at 12:45 - I was there till 1:30 PM and finally I left without my rental car.I called their number multiple times - it directed me to national reservation line.It would be better for location manager to have calls forward to his mobile instead. I would be much happier to speak to a person who can tell me if they will be late (or when they are expected to be back) - and it will be good for their business to know that a customer is waiting on them at location.
Save yourself aggravation and avoid this location. Are you an Avis Preferred client? This location could care less. Getting a car is tedious and time consuming (never more than one person working). Car quality is erratic. You may get a reasonably new vehicle or a dirty one that transported a dog or needs air in the tires. Go somewhere else or rent from the airport. This location is a joke and Avis Corp should be embarrassed.
Booked a car for work and declined all optional services. However when I returned the vehicle I noticed they slipped a roadside assistance charge. This is a shame on me for not looking closer but I felt like I made it clear I was not interested in any additional charges. Will look elsewhere when renting a vehicle in the future.
I highly recommend Avis and this particular location. I have received consistently excellent service for many years here.I first use them as a drop off location for cars I would pick up at the airport and drop off here one way. I soon started using them for local rentals whenever we were between cars or temporarily needed a bigger car (lots of luggage) or a more fuel efficient one than our current vehicles.I should point out that I frequently use Uber and Lyft locally BUT have found that if I making more than a couple of trips in a day it is far more economical to rent from a neighborhood location than to make multiple Uber/Lyft trips, Especially if it is over the weekend, during rush hour, or you book the car a day or two ahead of time.Of course, while I have had success in this particular example I will use, I do not recommend waiting until, say, the day before Thanksgiving, and expect to get a car quickly. :-)Finally, I don’t think anyone will mind if I point out this location also handles Budget Rent A Car (or whatever Budget’s formal name is).
I had a reservation for 8:30am EST on 7/11/20 and when I got there the store was closed even though it’s operating hours according to their national service center. There were other people who also were waiting to pick up their car. Never again with Avis or Budget....Enterprise to the rescue.
If you call a local branch and they dont pick up youll be transferred to their national headquarters. Once transferred, you will set on hold for about 5 minutes with a ton of automated recordings, then when you do finally reach somebody, theyre going to verify with you about 7 times that you want to rent a car, that seems silly to me, To have to verify this 7 more times. so with having to continually verify that I wanted to actually rent a car it was time to hang up the phone on them and go with another company. Worst experience ever. I was an hour late and they said they dont a car for me since I was late. They should have at least called and informed me.. finally I had to pay 10$ extra for an upgrade since they only have an SUV. Enterprise did far better job then these guys.. I would never recommend this to anyone .. I wont go here anytime in future
NEVER RENT FROM THIS LOCATION , THEY ARE SCAMBUGS,LIERS AND CHEATERS. THEY DONT OPEN ON TIME AND CHARGE CUSTOMERS ADDITIONAL CHARGES . 2022-02-24The vehicle was gross! Had to take it directly to the car wash to vacuum everything. Reeked of smoke and cats. Bought some lysol which alleviated some of the smell, but still not great. Nobody answers the phone there, probably makes sense after all of the experiences that Im seeing on their Google reviews. Just shocked that with the price of the rental and all of the demands about returning a clean car, this is what was provided for me. I will be returning it and dont plan on utilizing their services anymore. I will be telling all family/friends to stay away from this company.

2022-04-03Will not be renting from this location. Bad customer experience.1. No heads up that I wouldnt get the vehicle I had reserved (premium SUV) and was downgraded. Ruined the trip from the get go.2. Barely cleaned vehicle with a stuffy odor. I had to get my own car freshener.3. Road handling was pathetic with bad suspensions and loud road noise. Barely could hear my co-passengers unless we spoke loudly.4. At the last 100 miles a warning flashed that low in oil and wiper fluid.

2022-06-16Really wish I had done this before renting from this location.rented through Costco, will be getting a refund from them and definitely letting them know this location is ruining their image lol.... seems the issue of smells is a big one, ours smelled like rotting fish, the counter person- Mr rude, took it back and Ionized it... no change, not washed, crumbs in the dash, wipers torn, and had a turn signal go out on my way home from the agency!

2019-07-19Booked a minivan MONTHS ago through Avis only to be informed the day before our trip they would not have a minivan for us. After telling them how upset we were and how we really needed one, we get a call the next morning that one had come available. Unfortunately, it was not only very dirty inside, but i questioned where it came from and was told from the “maintenance lot”. I asked to see paperwork showing that this vehicle was safe to drive for a very long distance trip and was refused. And would not be told why it was there and what was wrong with it. Safety and cleanliness is my first priority for my family and this company cared neither for that. Now we are very late for our trip and trying to squeeze into a very compact car for a very long trip. Awful service.

2021-12-26Had a reservation for 8am today. Called to make sure they would be open 3 days prior. I arrived this morning to a closed office, despite a posted sign saying they would be open. Waited around with several other customers for half an hour, until I left to try and get a car from the location at the airport. There they had one guy working the counter. Line was 15 people deep. Took another hour to get a car. Avis in Columbus is a straight bush league organization. Use someome else.

2021-09-14Despite this location looking dirty and run down, I went ahead and picked up the car as scheduled - only to be given a dirty car I then needed to vacuum and wash. Aside from this, the rental went smoothly until two months passed and we received a bill from Avis showing that we turned the car in 8 days after we did. They wanted another $1,178.27! I called the owner about this and he said I dont remember the rental, but it wasnt returned on time according to our system. All he could tell me was to complain to corporate about it. Before calling I asked the driver who returned the vehicle to see the paperwork, but he was told when turning the vehicle in, that the printer was broken and he would be emailed the receipt. No email was ever received. Thankfully, Avis corporate found that the return was done incorrectly and that we were being billed for the next person to rent and return that vehicle. I will not use this location again for our corporate rentals.

2019-08-28Very disappointed. They gave me economy car even though I booked full size car. Upon asking staff, they just ignored and gave me broken car and forced me to take collision/damage wavier for the broken car to rent. The staff: TOBY I asked him about it, he said rudely like I’m the owner of the franchise. He said, You can’t complain anybody about it. The car is not clean and smells bad inside and has poor maintenance. Please, don’t get into trouble by renting the car in Avis, budget in Frantz road unless you want to get into trouble. Please see the broken car pictures. Toby is the owner of the franchise who replied to me, upon asking that I shouldn’t rent a car, rather buy it. Very rude answer and bad to criticize people.

2021-11-02I booked a mid-size rental through Expedia for the Budget Car Rental. When I got to the address (Karric Square), I discovered that the sign said Avis, rather than Budget. I went inside and the person at the desk confirmed that I had booked a small to mid-size vehicle (Toyota Corolla or similar). I was then told that all they had were trucks...!!! I didnt receive an email, a text, or a phone call to let me know there was a problem. I didnt get a notice from Expedia, Budget, or Avis. I was then unable to get a rental on the day I needed it.Whats the point in booking a rental, if youre going to get something other than what you booked!? Ill never book anything through Budget or Avis again, unless thats my only option.After checking my account, it appears that they also charged me a $50 non-cancellation fee, even though they didnt have the booked vehicle...Edit 11/2/2021:Im sad to report that I did not receive an appropriate level of customer service, but thank you for reaching out to me about refunding the cancellation fee. Im not sure why youre penalizing customers that book through Expedia and other partners, but they must be really handy scapegoats for any problems.I realize that I did book the vehicle through Expedia, but the fine print of that agreement is that I will be charged a $50 fee if I no-show. Since I did arrive at the appropriate time to pick up my vehicle, I was not a no-show. That means that AVIS reported to Expedia that I didnt show up to claim the vehicle, which is fraudulent, abusive, and retaliatory. I was charged the fee due to AVIS mistakes, which now seem to be cumulative... If youre unable to make it right, then dont waste my time by acting like youre trying to correct your mistake.

2021-12-19Leaving a review at BOTH locations because both ones we went to were horrible.After waiting in line at this Avis for the clerk who was higher than a kite (white guy with the blond beard and scraggly hair) and him making us continue to wait while we walked down the hall to look out back, then proceeded to tell us even though we reserved a car they had no cars we were told our only other option was to get a Uber 20 mins minutes away to the Avis at the airport.. once we got there the man at the counter was very apologetic BUT because is was at the airport we had to some extra tax because it was at the airport and was told haha they have to pay for this new building somehow and was then told it was their corporate store and they were a franchise. Blah blah fast forward for us now paying MORE for the rental because we had to get it at the airport and also an Uber over there. Then when we get in the car and go to leave we BY ACCIDENT drive into the wrong exit lane that you need a code for which we didnt see the sign only for this black woman who we wish we had gotten her name who came out and was cussing at us because we drive into the wrong exit lane and didnt have a code. Absolutely the worst service we have ever gotten. Do yourself a favor and pick another car rental company!
