Nurses will not do their jobs. The aids do the best they can but when there is only a few staffed for the whole building per shift there is only so much they can do. If you ever have the pleasure of speaking to An African American lady named Jill, Tell her a good work ethic will get her further in life. HR Does not help and does not seem to care about the staffing to help support the well being of their residents. DO NOT TAKE YOUR LOVE ONES HERE. IF YOU HAVE LOVED ONES IN HERE PLEASE FIND ANOTHER PLACE BEFORE IT IS TO LATE.

If you have a loved one at this facility get them out now before they are no longer with you. Nurse call lights on for hours upon hours till someone would peak in, not go in, peak in and walk away. Your loved ones will not only be neglected for normal hygiene help, they also will wait hours till they get any medications. Is your loved one on a ventilator? They let them beep and beep and beep till someone from another patients room wonders the hall’s looking for an aide or a nurse. This could go on and on but I’m sure you get the idea.

My experience at this facility was an absolute nightmare. I wouldn’t put my dog there on his deathbed. I witnessed flies and maggots on a lady. I was told not to answer call lights because that person felt entitled. They sat trays on peoples bedside‘s that can’t even use their arms. People are literally dehydrating and dying. I left this facility after two days reported it to the ombudsman and the health department I went to pick up my paycheck today and they robbed me completely blind. I would not put my family member here and I would not work here . You could literally lose your license working here. I really hope that the health department shuts them down and helps the residents that are there. They say there’s a new DON but she’s worse than the last one. Run for your life from this facility

I wouldn’t even give a star for this place. Since I have to its for the ladies that actually care and if they see this they know who they are. Evenings/nights the absolute worst. Press the call light I had to wait 2 hours several different times to even get a response. Never had my medication on time. Lost my medicine refused to locate it. Then after sighing myself out per nurse telling me there’s nothing else they can do for me. Then Tells my mother I do have medication left after I’m signed myself out! Now Refuses to give me the remaining medication bc I signed out. Why would any person sit there in pain when they can sit in in their own home in it. Wouldn’t recommend my pet to go there!! Not everyone was rude I met some nice and good nurses and aids. But there’s a few that make the place a 0. Food is terrible! I hope for the sake of the people that are stuck there they actually review these and start watching their nurses/employees I seriously don’t even wanna give it a one star. Also this is my personal experience this is what was done to me and how I was treated as an adult that knows what’s going on in life , not an elderly person that doesn’t or can’t defend themself!! Please do not send your loved ones to this place!!!

I am only giving Astoria one star because giving a half star is not a choice. This place was nothing but one long nightmare. Terrible staff who did not communicate with family members, staff who make inappropriate and rude remarks to patients, not even caring if they have been overheard by someone on the phone. The nurses schedule Conference calls but fail to call everyone that should be involved. The most helpful person was the receptionist, she worked very hard to get the nurses to call us back. If you care about your loved one, choose another place, not this one. They even took our Mothers cell phone from her, but did not bother to let us know what was happening.....just terrible!

Dont send your relatives here period. Doesnt matter if it is your last resort. They treat patients terribly and with little to no respect. My grandmother does not need to be here but I have zero control over the entire messy guardianship situation. It truly makes my blood boil that she is in their so called care, the only thing they care about is a pay check.

The nurses are super, I believe they are the best around. The social worker has been great. The staff treats us exactly the same as anyone else. The food is great. The cooks are fantastic - they have all my favorite foods. the doctors are all very good. They have a way with patients and are very respectful. Activities always have something for everyone, but my favorite are the musical entertainers. everyone sings along and dances. Its a ton of fun! You cant ask for better therapists. They push you to your limits without crossing the line at what you can handle. The whole staff just instinctively knows when there is something wrong or bothering me and I trust any of them enough to openly talk with them. I wish I would have known about this place when I needed placement for my husband, but at least I discovered Astoria for myself.

I used to think people exaggerated the terrible nursing home stories or were being overly sensitive until now. My dad was released from the hospital before my family had a chance to look into rehabilitation facilities or even think about one. I picked this place at the last minute because of location, new appearance and availability. After the very first visit I knew something was a little off about the place. I walked right in the front door past an empty reception area to a hallway, turned left and walked past a few residents in the dining room to a nurses station. About 3 staff members at that station just stared at me until I asked what room my dad was in. The next time I went to visit I started to realize staff will not acknowledge you unless you approach them first... and when you do approach most of the care staff will give you the are you going to annoy me look before they respond. Now lets talk about the care my dad received in Astorias rehabilitation side... Well, he left in an ambulance neglected, dehydrated and with his blood pressure at extremely dangerous levels only under 2 weeks in that place (after my last visit and the day before he left in an ambulance a unused IV pump appeared in his room). After he got to the hospital his nurse told us about his bleeding ulcers aka bed sores on his bottom. After my dad was in the hospital my sister spoke to one of Astorias administrators, she asked why we are going to take our dad out and my sister explained and asked to pick up my dads belongings. The administrator said she would bag everything up for my sister to pick up the same day, when my sister got there nobody knew where it was and someone was already in my dads old room. A couple days later my sister called to pick my dads stuff up again and they still had no clue where his stuff was and someone said it may of been thrown away. The next day my sister got a call saying they found his belongings. Right now my dad is in another facility doing WAY better and even had a smile on his face the moment we walked into the room. As for Astorias for profit ownership and administrators (it starts from the top)... YOU NEED TO BE ASHAMED. Ive experienced better hospitality at McDonalds ordering a $7 meal than I have at your $300 a day McNursing home. If Chic-fil-A can give you the best experience buying chicken nuggets... why cant you give peoples loved ones the best experience in your care???

Please never place your family member here. Most of the staff is amazing, the ones that have been there. New DON has no clue how to do her job and her actions and laziness put patients lives in danger. Administration has been informed by multiple people but continue to sit on their hands and do nothing. They are doing things that are ILLEGAL but nobody is doing anything about it.

Beautiful building!!!! Activities keep loved ones busy both in the facility and in the community. I especially love Friday Happy Hour with the musical entertainment. The food is good. You never go away hungry! Nurses, aides, and all the staff really care. Therapy helped me meet my goals. I especially love the slot machine and putting green.
