Wishing people would be more responsible for their pets.Sadly its mostly Pitbulls that seem to be hard to re-home. I saw one, Jeannie thats been there since early 2021. She had a home but it didnt work out for her. So she came back to the shelter. I dont have the means to home her myself. Wish I did, she was really a sweet girl!
Went inside to but license and ask about the bark park. The guest service person was knowledgeable and friendly. I looked at the three levels of the dog bark and left. 2/15 went to bark park to key my dog run. She meet a friend and they played for 45 minutes. Only the lower areas r open. Its pretty muddy but a lot is still frozen.
My bank accoubtt was hacked and I was in need for food for my Fur Babies 3 cats and 2 dogs. YouThis is a Fabulous place. The Nicest Lady Greeted me as soon as I walked through the door. With a great big Smile and friendly personality. She immediately put me at ease. I was hoping for 1 bag of cat food and one bag of cat food . Praying actually. What she gave me Shocked my friend and I both. She gave me 4 bags of dog food 1 case of wet dog food ( small cans) to mix with the dry food to make the food go further. She also gave me 2 bags of dog treats. Now for my cats she gave me 1 bag of cat food dry and around 20 packages of wet cat food 2 bags of cat treats and a big bag of pellet cat litter. This is a wonderful Organization. Please donate if you can or ask for help if needed 💗
I don’t even know how to begin with the ridiculousness I experienced from finding a puppy that was sick on the side of the road I called these people for their help and they told me that they would not help me unless I sent them pictures of the puppy first. To anybody that donates money to these sick individuals I would highly recommend investing your donations into a actual animal resource rescue center
Should be renamed to the Dayton Pitbull Animal Resource Center. We adopted our first Pitbull Mix to integrate into our family. Many questioned us bringing a bully breed into our home with kids, but we fell in love with the little guy. Unfortunately, this dog was both food and animal aggressive and attacked another dog resulting in a $770 emergency vet bill, not to mention the fright of breaking up a vicious dog attack. I will say the staff was very courteous both while picking up dog and dropping him off 2 days later.
Do not take a stray dog to this place if it all possible.Brought a stray pup in once, and when the owner did not claim it I had a place set up for the puppy. They gave me the run around for three days in a row. I even went up there twice and the girl at the counter blew me off with a chuckle. Went back up there with all the paperwork they requested and they told me the puppy had Parvo. So they killed her.I had the money to get the puppy the meds and everything necessary to try to save her. And instead of letting me have her. They gave me a run around for three day, then put the puppy down. What a class act!I will mention this was awhile ago. But they seem to have a habit of making bad mistakes. Like when they got busted for reusing syringes, not storing vaccines properly and losing some of their Lethal Plus doses.
My family and I were looking at a dog on the shelter website and fell in love. We called and made sure she was still there. We scheduled an appointment to meet and met her. It was a perfect match but my whole family wasn’t able to make it to the meeting so before we decided to adopt her we wanted everyone to meet her. On the way out we talked to the adoption counselor and said we’d be back with the rest of the family to meet her tomorrow and most likely adopt her. We scheduled an appointment to see her again the next day. We were so excited to have a new addition to the family.Well, as it happens we get a call the next day saying the dog we were interested in was shipped to a shelter in Columbus, and she was gone. We were stunned because we made an appointment to see her, they all knew we were coming back to see her, and still gave her to the other shelter. The day before they never made a point to tell us she was scheduled to leave. They told us they did it because we never put her on hold. The thing is we asked if there was any papers or anything we needed to do besides 100% adopting her, and we were told no because we were the only family interested in her.My family and I are extremely frustrated and saddened that this shelter would give a dog away to shelter knowing a family was interested in her and had plans to take her home. And they obviously knew of our interest because they contacted us saying they gave her away! If I could give one star I would, and I hope no one has to go through this as my family did.
Was looking to adopt a Chihuahua on a Saturday. The employee brought the dog to my daughter and then left. She never came back to check on us and apparently went home. They announced on their speaker system that they are now closing. My daughter bonded with the dog and we were prepared to purchase the animal. They informed us that they cant sell the animal because they are closing now. They said they will be open the next day (Sunday). My daughter and I came back the next day and the staff said that they dont do adoptions nor accept applications for adoptions on Sundays. The staff is very unprofessional and doesnt seem to know what they are doing.
On April 8th we adopted the sweetest little guy, Tanner, age four years. On April 12th he stopped eating and we could tell he wasn’t feeling well. Our vet diagnosed him with whip worms and parvovirus and wasn’t able to save him. He passed on April 14th. Tanner had come to the shelter on March 26th and received a parvo vaccine at that time. He was obviously already infected, or became infected at the shelter before the vaccine had time to protect him. So a dog was put up for adoption with parvo and whip worms. We have another dog and since parvo is highly contagious, we disinfected floors and threw away rugs that could not be washed as recommended by our vet. The emotional toll has been overwhelming. We fell in love with him instantly. Our adoption fee was refunded but this sweet pup died needlessly.
I had two of my moms dogs there. She has recently passed away and my brother didnt tell me that they had the dogs. 418.00 later I finally got them back home, I thank them for taking care of them but if I had known that they were there I would have gotten them home the same day. My best advice is if the owner on record is dead please contact the family if at all possible because its not good for the pets to be away from the people they have known all of their lives to be in that situation.
I adopted my beagle basset from here and he has been wonderful. We were recently looking to adopt another so we stopped in and found a dog that we really liked. They said the meet and greet was optional so we decided to bring our dog inside to meet her anyways. The meet and greet was in a conference room where to dogs had no toys or anything to play with to get to know each other. They were in the room for LESS THAN 5 minutes both on leashes. The lady said it was off to good start which we were so excited about. BUT WITH IN that five minutes the lady said the meet and greet ended up being a fail because my dog made noises at the other dog. I’m not sure if she has ever even owned a dog to be COMPLETELY honest. I’ve had my dog around a lot of dogs and they all make noises when they play together or when getting to know each other. She didn’t even offer to take them outside in a different environment either. So we weren’t able to adopt the sweet girl. I will never return here. The dog we were interested in has already been there for a month and will probably end up being put down when she could have a loving home.
I adopted my new beagle from ARC. The staff was friendly and helpful. The facility was very clean and well maintained. We had a follow-up visit for a health issue and there was no charge for that.If you are looking for a pet please consider shelters and rescues. Adopt, dont shop!
Lynxx loved it! We found a dog. Her name is fig. She is deaf. But she was the only dog that didnt try to eat my daughter. Some reason animals dont like my Lynxx. Love me. But go crazy when they see Lynxx. But not fig. She just hopped up and was happy. But some reason she is on hold. If we are lucky.. Lynxx will have her first pet Thursday. We definitely are going to rename her. Lynxx wants to name her Princess. Since she is deaf. It doesnt really matter. Probably will take her to vet and find out what is wrong with her hearing. Pray Lynxx gets her Princess!
I have gone here for years looking for a puppy for our family. I finally found one and set up a meet and greet last week. When my husband went there with our own dog to meet the puppy, several things were done by the person bringing the puppy in. She brought the puppy in when our dog was facing away from her and scared our dog. She wouldnt pet him or acknowledge he was there. She refused to retry her entry with the puppy and then accused our dog of being a threat. Now everyone else saw out dog, they petted him and praised him with no problem. How can this woman tell us that we were refused from owning a pet when she did things wrong! You never come up from behind an animal and expect them to not be scared and react?! That woman needs to be retaught in animal behavior or the shelter will never place any animals in their forever homes! Really disappointed!!!
The service was amazing. I had to cremate my little boy. Pitt. He was my best friend, he was my family. And they treated me and my boy like we were family. I was in Tears, she started to cry with me. And the price to cremate 60 pound baby boy was only $125. And I get a beautiful square tin to recieve his ashes in. They were wonderful
Such a waste of County dollars. Stray dogs are running around and the dog warden doesn’t even answer the phone. Only to be called back by the director and told that since they are at capacity they are only catching dangerous dogs and relying on the public to hold strays until their homes are found. We as tax payers, pay for the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center to do a service and take care of strays, they need to take responsibility and do their jobs.
I am so pleased to report the complete turn around, improvements abounding and accomplishments that the new Director/Manager has managed to bless our community with!! The Animal Resource Center is now a fantastic place, an extraordinarily managed place that truly cares for the temporary dogs in their excellent care. I say temporary in a very happy & positive way, as in being adopted & going to their new homes!! The new director must be an exceptional man, he has actually changed the policies to a much more community friendly and affordable location to find your newest fur faced family member😌. There are now NO animals euthenized! AND, they now offer $20. ADOPTIONS!!! - this small fee is not guaranteed to be permanent , but for now its available. The twenty dollars covers EVERYTHING, the dog, the license and an identity chip, PLUS every dog is neutered or spayed prior to the adoption. I am so very thankful for this man and the changes he has made. At least once, that I know of he literally managed to clear the place out by offering an even better deal than the $20. One!! I mean all the dogs in the shelter went to new homes in a single days time. WOW!! I am hoping that all people who are looking for a wonderful loving pet, a new dog to bring home, check The Animal Resource Center FIRST!! Not only do these misplaced dogs deserve your love & a home, but I feel we as a community in solidarity should show our appreciation for A.R.C.s new director. THANK YOU SIR, Im looking forward to meeting you in person so that I can shake you hand & thank you again.
We often visited the center to pet the animals and give treats. Each time We were searching for the one that would be perfect for our family. Finally we found her!We adopted a beautiful girl named Glossy on 3/9. Shes super sweet, playful and loves to be wherever we are and go wherever we go.Shes also very timid and has a little resource guarding that shell have to be trained out of. Its obvious that she was mistreated but we are ready to help her know and feel LOVE!Before taking Glossy home, she was spayed, microchipped, given first shots and licensed! The staff are friendly and informative when asked questions. Its also wonderful that the center offers free training/ obedience for life.I recommend visiting the center if youre looking to help a dog or cat find their forever home!
My husband and I recently adopted a 4-6 yr old mixed breed dog from there, and our experience was great! The staff was very kind and professional, and took the time to explain everything to us, and the facility was nice and clean, and so were the animals. We were able to spend a good amount of time with the dog before deciding to adopt. Thanks to this place, I now have the best dog in the world...fully housebroken, and incredibly sweet natured, and we couldnt be happier!
My friend found a mixed male lab and took him to the ARC not knowing what his fate would be. We came to visit two days after he took him and they had him on the euthanasia list. They said he failed the pinch part of the aggression test. This is where they pinch at he dogs paws, and if they try nipping at the tester while doing so, they fail. I talked with a rescue and they said this test is only used in training purposes to see if the dog is a dominant or soft trainer. We got the dog back and found him a new home with a friends grandma. The dog lives happily now, even with a sibling, and they get on so well. While I am so happy for the dog, its a shame I had to do the work that this shelter could have done with my tax dollars. They had the dog on death row for no acceptable reason. It just seemed very fishy, like do not make an effort to save lives. However, I dont recommend against adopting from here. Please, do go save an animal off the death row if you can. You can save a life.
Everything seemed fine when we went to retrieve our escapee dog, but when we finally got him back he was hungry, overheated, and had a huge glob of dried vomit matted to his face that nobody seemed to notice. Took him home and he ate so fast he threw up. I saw multiple cages where the dogs had gone to the bathroom and it had not been cleaned up. I understand they have lots of animals to take care of, but the condition we got our dog back in was straight neglect. Thank God he was only in there for a day.
This place is very unfair!! If I could give this place 0 stars I would!! I went there to pick up my dog Brownie and i told them i had just bought her a new collar and cable. She had allegedly broke it and took off. After 8 long days, she ended up at the dog pound. I was paying for a replacement. They stated that i owed a bill of 195.00 from 2015. And added that too a 265.00 bill and i was unable tp pay the full bill. I did offer to pay 100.00 down and they took her it n the back after they let us see each other, she was all excited. And said there was nothing that could be fone . I had to pay the bill in full and mind you an additional 25.00 for each day it took to get her out. After all 14 days that they keep her The bill had escalated to an amount of 350.00 Due to my not working from the pandemic. I have been in Brownies life for the past 12 years. She is my best friend that i have ever had. We have been through alot of times, mostly good , some bad. However, i have always came to get her and pay to get her out the past few times that she was incarcerated. I just drove to the town of Batavia and paid 150.00 to get her out Thats 65 miles away. And now im pretty sure that my best friend Brownie is dead . Put to sleep by y the so called Humane society. My hands were tied. There was nothing i could fo but know that my baby was nrver going to come home to me. Im at a total life changing loss. Im so angered that my beautiful dog is gone because of a few hundred dollars. This to me is nothing less than Inhumane to say the least. I am ashamed of the rules that must be changed so that other people pill not lose there beloved best friend to the murderous hands of the In humane Society. Sincerely, yours,. Christopher Gibby Gibson.
Clean, modern facilities and large cages; helpful and cooperative staff. Dogs are well-cared for by staff and volunteers. Newer place with large adjacent public bark park. Mostly big pit bull/mixes since 2018 Memorial Day tornados in Dayton. Smaller dogs are hard to find, but are sometimes available. As animal shelters go, this one is pretty excellent.
Got the best dog ever from here. He was the 3rd dog we saw. They named him Coco, I changed it to Kokomo. I grabbed his paperwork and continued to check out the other 30 or dogs they had. But Kokomo just had that take me attitude and he went home with us. It was 2 weeks ago and things have gone great. While we was there, people were taking the dogs out to do their business, other workers were talking and interacting with the animals (like they cared for them.) Almost all the kennels were clean, I was told they feed the dogs at 9 and 6 I believe they said. My dog also had no fleas, no kennel cough etc. Ive had several dogs including pit bulls, but this is my first time adopting a pet. Hed been there for 63 days. Ive had dogs all my life and like most dog people i can read dog language pretty well. He was taken care of while in the facility.
We had a decent experience yesterday. Mind you, we were only there to obtain a dog license for the first time, and to get our puppy microchipped. The lady at the desk was very nice and seemed to be quite knowledgeable. There was a bit of a wait for the microchip, but that is to be expected, after all it was a Saturday afternoon, and their microchip is a lot cheaper than all the vets, and vet clinics. Plus, they were very patient with my puppy and seemed genuinely loving when she was so weary of what they were doing with her, when they were putting the microchip in. I also like the fact, that they offer extended and even lifetime dog licenses.
We got our little sassfrass (aka Molly) from them she was 10 weeks old when we got her last wed Nov 27, the place was nice and clean and the volunteer ladies love doing what they. I would totally recommend them to anyone looking for a dog, i love how they update their website almost min by min.
I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the facility is. The dogs are clean, healthy, and surprisingly calm. Everyone seems to treat the animals wonderfully. They even invest in the dogs by working on training exercises, and they give them lots of treats. We adopted a lovely pibble mix named Morty. He so is precious and loving. When it is time to add to the pack, this will be the first place we visit.
While someone did help me get the sweetest pup out to play with after a while nobody would help me put this baby away so I had to do it myself and I’m fine with that but there was no staff member in sight till I was around the corner and she walked right passed me so I put her up. But the big thing that got to me was the neglect these amazing pups are going through there was so much feces in one of the kennels the puppy could not walk anywhere with out stepping in it. When I brought this to the attention of the staff they did not seem to care and also told me everyone puts them away by themselves when there are signs all over the pound saying not to without the help of staff.
I really liked this place, but could never find a dog that I wanted, so we ended up going to Warren County Animal Shelter and found what we had been looking for. She is very beautiful and was 2 yrs old. The place is 22,000 square feet. I had heard that the animal shelter in Dayton has been euthanizing alot of dogs, so no wonder we could never find a dog here.
We were there looking at dogs yesterday. There were lots of big dogs and all were clean and looked well cared for. We talked to and petted almost all of them and they seemed very well behaved and even tempered. Lots of very sweet babies looking for their forever homes
I just want to say this Im a 15 year old girl and we got my dog about 10 maybe 8 years ago and he passed away in June due to a swelling in the leg. We got him from this shelter and I remember exactly how that day went. The dogs we saw, naming him in the car, seeing that other girl telling me not to touch her kittens that werent even hers. I just want to say, this shelter gave me the best friend I could have ever asked for and this shelter does such a good job at what they do. Thank you for giving me such a best friend.
Staff and volunteers are equally rude and treat visitors as if they’re inconveniences. Not exactly a good way to present yourself when you have lives on the line that will be euthanized if not adopted out by you.Treat your potential adopters with some basic respect, and don’t make snarky remarks any time they have a question. I saw this happen multiple times at the front desk.I’ve been here several times before in the past and adopted pets here. I’m not interested in doing so again in the future. Not from here anyways.
We got our Latte there. They made visiting appointment for us with our other dogs before we adopted her, To make sure that they all got along. The doctor also took great care of Latte and made sure that everything was wright. We love it. Thank you all. P.s also can get our dog tags there.
Home health nurse, droppedoff young puppy found on Ives court. Facility very nice, front desk staff nice. My concerns are that I initially called to speak with an animal control officer. I waited 20 minutes on the phone with only 1 call ahead of me. I drove the lost dog to the shelter at 1230pm, where I was made to stand in line for 30 minutes, then I was put in a holding room with the dog for an additional 15 minutes. I approached the front desk requesting intake once again, the rep stated Oh you could have left the dog in the room. I am involved with a dog rescue group and I am a dog trainer, the volunter and/or staff were sitting around the facility. Little to no interaction with the dogs that were outside in the side patio area. They could definately use more staffing or additional volunteers who care. Very disappointed!
New director. This place is once again pristine. The dogs and enclosures are clean and the staff is amazingly kind. helpful and friendly. My,best friend, Oreo recently passed from cancer...and the breed alert function on their website found me a miracle of a shih tzu puppy...
They were very helpful when I went to get my dog. Volunteers were able to tell me about what they had experienced when playing with him, and I was encouraged to visit him daily until I picked him up after he was neutered. The park right next to the shelter made it easy for us to play on the last day before I loaded him into the car to head home.
Awful, awful experience. We drove from an hour away to get a dog we called about ahead of time. We arrived and it was gone and when asked what happened we were told he was euthanized because it growled at kids on the adoption floor. My husband would have gladly taken this dog and given him a loving because we do not have kids!! We have rescued 4 dogs so far together and have lots of experience with rescue dogs. After speaking to the staff about my disappointment, I realized they seemed very nonchalant and emotionless there. That was the tip of the iceberg. when we went to look at other dogs and couldnt even get staffs attention to help us and answer questions. One boy was on his phone and it didnt seem they were being supervised at all.
I adopted my jack russell terrier here 2 years ago and it was a positive experience. Animal shelters are sad because not every animal will get a home, however the staff helps this by petting the animals and playing with them to provide some comfort. The facility is clean and the animals are healthy and checked by a vet. My dog was healthy other than being skinny and a little skittish. I am so glad I got my dog there, he was 3 and and already house trained. He transitioned into my home very easily with minimal mishaps, something youll never experience with a new puppy. There are so many wonderful animals there waiting for homes and I would recommend stopping by when you look for your next pet. If you do adopt, the adoption fee is very reasonable (around $140 I think) and included neutering, a microchip and a heart worm test.
Horrible place. With having three children ages 4 and under, it was getting to be a little much with our puppy that we adopted from them back in June. We went into the shelter yesterday to turn our dog over to them, hoping she would find a home that could give her the attention she deserved. After leaving that night we had a change in hearth and called first thing the next morning but to our suprise, she was already DEAD!!!!. They said with her being extremely aggressive and that we reported the dog bit our daughter, they just didnt have a choice. The funny thing is, we dont have a daughter and that dog was anything but aggressive. We told them our dog was starting to become protective over our middle child. Never anything about aggressive behavior. The staff seemed to make stuff up to kill dogs to save some room. That place needs to go under. It seems to be more of a kill shelter than anything else. Also, after speaking with the director to file a complaint about the situation, we were told, you signed the paperwork which makes the dog county property and they can do with the dogs what they see fit.
Ive gotten two dogs from here. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. When I got my second dog I was able to bring my first dog to meet him before deciding if he was right for our house. They have many breed types and an outdoor fenced area to play/test the how the dog acts with you. Also there is a large Bark Park here that is fenced in for you to bring your dogs to let them run and socialize with other dogs. They also have cats for adoption. They spay/neuter and microchip.
After being hung up on once, then being on hold for almost 40 minutes, the lady I talked so was extremely rude and very unprofessional. I was asking about their volunteer services. My son has been looking to volunteer places and loves animals. I thought this would be a wonderful place to call. She got a huge attitude and told me 16 is to young and basically thanks for waiting her time. Its a shame really. I bet some of those dogs and cats would love some extra attention. Thanks for being a jerk face lady!
We adopted a beautiful dog from here and as we were walking out the door (after all paperwork had been completed) we were ONLY THEN informed that the dog was hit by a car and on continuous pain meds. They didnt offer to give us a prescription, send us home w any of the meds, or anything. We were told we could come back Tuesday (4 days later) to get a prescription. Due to going off pain meds, the dog became viscous from pain and bit me for trying to put a leash on her and take her out to potty. When we came in to look at her at arc, we had our young children with us, we told them over and over we had young children and they still didnt think to bring this issue up. If the dog had got one if my children instead if me, it would have been deadly!
I do not understand how the Veterinarian that works here, Dr. Kelly Meyer, is still allowed to practice. There are graphic images of her own dog being brought into the shelter with MAGGOTS all over him?! How does that happen without extreme neglect?? She claims it happened while she was on vacation and left with others for 3 DAYS?! That type of issue does not occur in three days. I dont know why you would go into veterinary medicine and not care for your own animal. The horrific thing is, the incompetence and outright animal abuse doesnt even stop there. Between Dr. Death misdiagnosing animals and refusing to treat what she deems aggressive animals (there are muzzles, sedation for a reason; and the animal she quoted this on was a Yorkie), so many animals die here. Plus the complete negligence that more than half the time, Dr. Meyer doesnt even see the animal, the vet tech does (who isnt any better). Dr. Meyer cant be bothered to come in when needed. Dr. Meyer has bullied and harassed other shelter employees. Dr. Meyer needs a complete investigation and removal of her licence, and honestly should never be able to own a pet again.
All the cages are very clean. Puppies and adults are kept apart which keeps the noise down. They also have very thick walls and doors between the kennels and the reception area so you dont have to yell to be heard. Wait times arent too bad, I think we spent a total of 1 hour from start to finish. This is my second time adopting a dog from them, and if I want to adopt again, I will always go here. Only con I can think of is they have no clue as far as breed types go unless its a boxer, beagle or a pit. Anything else and I swear they just pull something out of their behinds and roll with it.
The staff was friendly enough, until we let them know they brought us the wrong black pitbull terrier. Yeah she looked close enough but she was about a year older than our 4 month old puppy who had gotten loose from our backyard. Also the pup they signed out into our care was bot the one we met with to ensure it was our dog ... And had a crippled leg. It gets worse ... When we brought this to the staffs attention they acted as if it was a huge inconvenience for THEM to have to go back and get OUR dog we had just paid nearly $100 to release. My animal loving 10 year old & emotional 6 year old were in tears as the staff loudly discussed how sad and what a shame it was to take the poor guy (it was a female pit) back to the back after he has almost had a home. I give them a couple stars because our end result was still ideal, us bringing home our puppy that the girls had missed so much.
Literally the worst experience of my life. Wanted to adopt a puppy instead of buying one off someone. Found one a I loved here after searching for a year. Told me he wasnt available yet because he hadnt had his health check yet. Adoption is first come first serve, no reserves or holding. They were so rude. No one would answer the phone the 6 times I called to check and see if his check had been done yet. I went there 4 times in 2 days, still nothing. Said he would be ready tomorrow morning first thing. Came back before open the next day and used my lunch break to do it, and went inside and they said this other girl was there before me that day so she got to take him home and thats that. So they put me through all that and I never even got to take my little guy home, someone else did. I am literally heartbroken and I hope this place gets shut down after reading all of these other reviews. Horrible place, never come here.
I have family that has purchased 3 cats from here and they have had wonderful experiences, and it is very cheap and affordable to adopt a pet for here, but I did not give my rating because of that. The rate of which they kill these animals is absolutely disgusting, I know they have to put them down if they aren’t adopted but I recently heard of a woman who dropped a litter of kittens off because she couldn’t take care of them and the next day her friend decided to adopt one, but when she got there they already put them all down, they said they “were to aggressive”! The kittens were five weeks old. This isn’t the first story I’ve heard of this happening either, they kill these animals way to quickly got them to ever be adopted, I don’t care that they put the animals down if they aren’t adopted, I care about how they murder them for reasons that don’t make sense, like five week old kittens being to aggressive, they are kittens of course they are going to be ruff they don’t understand anything yet! I am truly disgusted by how they treat the animals there.
Im going to be honest this shelter has not once but twice has disappointed me 2 times 2 TIMES! I came here during the st pawtys day adoption event asked to meet a dog was told to go to the kennel and thats it plus they didnt have anyone else there to help me at all but yet they took the dog to be met with someone else when i had orginally asked at first! i did also come here again to come meet a dog to potienally adopted they told me i couldnt adopt then say yes you can why on earth would you tell someone that! Just say yes or no gosh its not that hard and this was within a span from 1 to 4 weeks! im sorry im very disappointed by this i get this is quote first come first serve but at least give your custiomers some respect too aside from that the kennels are clean overall idk if anyone else had this kind of experince before but i highly dont recommend this
I completely understand people who give five stars because they go here and adopt. You are the five stars to my chicken dinner. You are the cheese to my macaroni. I love you. But I absolutely cannot fathom the way this place functions. Only 50% animals leave this shelter alive. They feed their animals once a day. They euthanize for barking. They are stuck in 1980. We cannot accept this.
I took in two cats because I didnt have the space or money to be able to take care of them anymore. They where both really good cats. One just lick you when ever he wanted and the other was just a shy boy. I told them that if for any reason they wouldnt be able to be adoptes to let me know. A few days later they call and tell me that one of the cats I brought in was extremely Farro was not adoptable. They said he was mean and no one could handle him. We then told them we would pick him up because we didnt take the cats there to get killed but to find a good home. Then they wanted to tell us he wasnt fixed and that we would have to pay 65 dollars to get him fixed before we could pick him up. Mind you we fixed g before we took him. And they would have to put him under so they could check. We then went to go pick the cat up they made us pay them and the minute we got him he was scared to death Im almost sure that they had to beat him because now he is just fine he grooms my five month year old daughter. He lets her pet him and love on him. And the staff there wasnt very pleasant either. Hands down not worth it!
So Wednesday we signed paperwork and adopted an 8 month old puppy. We didnt tell the kids because we wanted to surprise them. He was getting neutered yesterday, with pickup today. Last night we bought a huge cage, bones, dishes, treats, a leash, a collar, toys... everything. I even got red valentines day ribbon to put around his neck for when we surprised the boys tonight! Went to pick him up... after shuffling through all kinds of paperwork the lady at the desk informed me that they had accidentally adopted him out to someone else this morning. I was shocked. Very upset about my experience here.
Hello, I have been volunteering for this shelter for over 4 months and seeing all these hateful comments which half of them arent even true really shock me. The people who get out the dogs normally are volunteers and dont actually work there. We dont get paid and we come in on our free time so being somewhat annoyed or having a attitude can happen. Volunteers choose whether to help you or not we can just sit and pet cats and not talk to anyone. As for the dogs on the show floor is that they cannot be removed unless they are in surgery (mainly for spaying or neutering) or they have bitten someone. If you are wondering why they dont get second chances is because think of it if a child got bitten, its a lot worse. Most dogs do have a aggressive side to them because all the dogs there are either found from the streets or are taken away from abusive/ neglectful homes or their owner is serving jail time, so of course the dog will be angry and hostile. As for dog behavior is something that we learn during our first training corse so if we feel a dog is aggressive we have the option to report it and potentially get the dog tested.Dogs that come in sick are kept in a quarantine room away from all healthy animals.
My girlfriend and I just went their on 10/28/2016 to adopt a cat and had a horrible experience. After looking at and finding the cat we wanted to rescue we had to fill out an application. When we filled out the application the African American lady at the front desk asked us about the owner of our home. It was my grandma who just recently passed away . The lady then rudely told us we couldnt adopt because of power of attorney BS. This was unsettling because we knew we could provide this cat named Buffy with a wonderful home and life full of love. We tried to fill out an application with her dads address and she still refused us. The cat has been their about a month and will soon be put down like all the rest of the cats that do not find homes there. We are a young couple and both very experienced with cats and wanted to have a new member to the family. It would be our only pet with us. Its very unsettling and screwed up they refused us. I felt judged before we ever began to fill out the application. Adding to the already uncomfortable situation, when she refused us the second time, she just looked at us with a fake smile and said Bye. It took all we could to refrain from cussing her out. I just really hope Buffy the cat we tried to rescue finds a happy home and does not get put down. The situation is a sad one and next time we will be heading to Pet smart before becoming attached to one of the animals at the shelter.
I went in to purchase a dog license for my Labraheeler. Found out that if paying with a debit/credit card, a fee is charged. We didnt have enough to cover the fee, so left to go get cash. When I went back inside, I thought Id have to give all the information again. A pleasant surprise to learn that I didnt have to and all that the staff member needed to do was print up the receipt for my signature! She even recognized me.
While the shelter is nice and the dogs seem well taken care of, i wanted to adopt a dog. My wife and i went in on a wednesday and found a dog we wanted. We came in the next day with our dog for a meet and greet and to adopt. They said he was on a landlord hold and to call tomorrow to see what the status was of the hold. I called three times that friday and was told to be there on saturday when the doors opened and that we would be the first people to have the opportunity to adopt him. we get to the doors at 9:59 am they open at 10. We go in and go to the front desk and spoke about adopting him so we go ahead and go to get him out however there was another couple that wanted him as well. Even though we had already gone through all of this to get the dog they gave the dog to this couple because they were waiting at the doors first. We were not even given a fair chance while we were out playing with him they let the couple go ahead and start filling out his papers. We felt as if we were not given a fair chance to adopt him. I hope no one has to go through this injustice as we did with this shelter.
On Tuesday 5/1 we adopted a 4 month old puppy from there. When we adopted her we were told she had kennel cough, even though she had apparently had a bordetello vaccine, and to watch for vomiting and ddiarrhea those were symptoms of parvo. They never told us she had gotten her starter parvo vaccine, even though it was listed in her records. The next day Wednesday 5/2 we had to take her back to their clinic for vomiting because our vet was closed. Their vet came out and told us she had PARVO. She told us that our puppy had gotten it FROM THEIR shelter. They litterally sold us a puppy with Parvo and knew it. I guarantee it. No one was sincere in their apologies and had the gall to ask if we wanted a money refund or a voucher to get another dog from their shelter. They still got their money because even though it is THEIR fault our dog had parvo WE had to pay to have her cremated at 145$. My husband and I are utterly devastated because they gave us less than a half an hour to decide what to do with her. They told us we could humanely euthanize or they could give her fluids and send her home with us even though she needed immediate treatment, and we would have to go to our vet the next day and it could cost us anywhere from 500 to 700$+ to save her life. That is what they told us. They didnt give us any real choice. We didnt have any real time to process, as they were more worried about being able to go home than our suffering, and our animal. There is parvo in their shelter and theyre still selling puppies and dogs who have been exposed to it. Please, please dont get an animal from this horrible place. I dont want to see anyone else suffer like I am.
The only positive reviews on here are from the directors friends in an attempt to salvage their rotten reputation for rampant killing. They execute dogs for being afraid of vaccination needles. This is not normal, folks! This place takes horrible care of animals and does a terrible job serving the public. Except for the volunteers who are dedicating their free time here to save what is left. They are blessings and go through a lot of emotional turmoil witnessing the shelter employees crimes. The government employees here have the worst attitudes and are infamously lazy. If you need anything, you pretty much have to drive there and go inside and wait, because if you call, you get told by an automated response system that you are Caller #1 for 45 minutes. Just unacceptable. Wake up, Montgomery County.
Call to advise of dogs running loose, no one answers. Spend 10 minutes listening to recordings about how good they are.IF they do call back, IF.....then they are rude to put it politely. In 5 years living in dayton and having to call this place, due to dogs running freely, I have not had one occurrence of them taking any action.Every community needs and deserves facilities as this one, unfortunately, this organization is poorly managed, as well as incompetent.I tried to give a rating of less than 1 star, but, of course, that is not allowed.
I adopted my Gabriel from here. Theyre doing their best to treat and care ❤ for the animals that are brought in to find a home. Check ✔ out their website to see the animals in the faculty. Then go out to see 👀 the animals. These are the ones who truly need a FOREVER HOME
Newer facility, a definite improvement from the one that housed them several years ago...lotta space. Theres a cat and kitten room as well as a large dog room. Very active adoption program, many animals to choose from. Theres helpful volunteers working there, but they need more. Director is very helpful and a good listener. Most people there are courteous, all are knowledgable, but a few act like you just peed in their Cheerios. The place needs to be cleaned a bit more as in sweeping and moping.
Staffed by people who love animals...Leah Dauter, Ive no clue why what happened to you did. Wasnt there. Maybe you had the misfortune of getting a cat person to judge dog behavior. Maybe she was right. Praying that dog has found a suitable home! Yes, they euthanize, probably sometimes when they shouldnt. Walk a mile in their shoes. Just saying.
This shelter is very unfair!! I had called in about a puppy they had for adoption. I get a call back from the shelter telling me he was available and they couldnt hold him. So I rushed in there to be told they where holding him for someone else. Then they tell that the person had until 2pm to pick him up I wait till 2pm I call again and they tell me that they are going to call the person and if they didnt get ahold of them they would let me know. I wait another 30 mins call again they tell me they still hadnt heard from the person but they would get ahold of me if they dont get ahold of anyone. This is not right at all
More than 50% of the dogs and cats that enter this place die. Do not owner surrender any animals here, they will more than likely die. Growling is on grounds for death. No attempt to contact any rescues or post any dogs on social media. Claim to not have killed any animals for lack of space in however many years, however they skew that data by claiming “unhealthy/untreatable behavior”. Apparently every dog that enters is either aggressive or has detrimental health issues. The ARC vet, Dr. Kelly Meyer, has misdiagnosed and neglected care for countless animals. She wanted to euthanize for an ear infection that she thought was cancer. Her nickname isn’t Dr. Death for no reason. Everyone involved with the ARC tries to blame the community they’re supposedly here to help, claiming ignorance is the reason they needlessly slaughter over a hundred animals a month. Their live release rate (typically 50%-60%) is pathetic compared to other county dog warden pounds. The director refuses to work with rescues that say anything negative about him or the ARC’s practices. Be careful if you live in the Montgomery county area, even if your dog is liscenced or chipped they hardly ever contact the owner before killing your dog. Multiple people have come out with similar stories. There are so many other shelters with even larger population sizes than the Dayton Metro area with better live release rates. There are more than 100 rescues within 50 miles of the ARC, why aren’t they utilizing them? A joke of a shelter.
My puppy was taken and later found and brought into the shelter. They seemed to have treated him well. My only issue was when the girl brought him out to me she let me see him for literally 1 min amd took him back. I wasnt awarr how much i needed to pay them and had to run to the atm. I asked her to let me have a few minutes and she basically leaned over and picked him up saying she couldnt. I was furious she would take my dog. Sje made me feel like i lost him by neglecting him or careless. I literally had him outside for 10 mon and 2 guys stole him. I called police and i will say, shout out to dayton police and all the hard work. They found my puppy, drove clear to yellow springs andbbrought my puppy home. It was incredible to see that they woukd go that far for someone over a dog. Refreshing at the least and much gratitude. Officer Salvar, you are great. Tha k you so much!!!
Their euthanasia rate is a joke, as are their reasons to euthanize. Letting employees who are afraid of anything larger than a Yorkie make the calls regarding temperament is negligent; said employees are essentially murdering perfectly adoptable dogs just because they are personally uncomfortable around larger dogs. This place needs to be shut down.
So Sad, A Female Cryin About Having Too Return An Animal, For Toy Agression, Around Others... Simply A Tearful Moment For The Beutiful Smart Breeded Animal, Shame The Owner Wasnt A Winner Winner, No Chicken Dinner... Why Give The Dog A Toy Too Play With Around Other Animals, Shame Shame, There Gotta Be Smarter Peeps Than Animal...P.S. Animals Might Be Smarter.
I adopted a dog from this shelter two weeks ago. Found out it had roundworms and called about meds and they seemed very helpful but I dont live in Dayton so easier to purchase from my vet. The next day I find out it had PARVO so I called and they refered me to Supervisor and got voicemail and he has never returned my call. Called back 15 minutes later and they would not take my call or return it. People seemed helpful when I found her which is the reason they got 2 stars. Be sure to make sure any dog you get here is checked for this potentially deadly disease because they wont help you.
They were not willing to try to help save a couple dogs. They preferred to euthanize them. I went to assess the two dogs temperament but they wouldnt even let me see them.I dont think they really understood the breed they were dealing with and were not interested in having the REGIONAL BREED RESCUE SOCIETY step in to help them.Very sad, disappointing and unnecessary.
My girlfriend and I went into this shelter to look at cats. Soon as we walked in it was disturbingly quiet, Im used to animal shelters being loud and over crowded with animals, this place was silent....We walk in and ask about cats and the lady at the front counter said We dont have any cats right now. We adopted them all out. We then ask about dogs and the same lady tells us they only have 4 dogs to look at.....We go look and they are all dead silent just staring into space....I know something is going on here this is a kill shelter but I think its more then that.My girlfriend and I left and went to SICSA a different shelter and looked at their animals and mentioned the experience we had at Montgomery county and the lady at the counter said We go there all the time and save animals from them. They put animals down for even minior behavior problems, even puppies.I think this place is just evil and needs to be looked into by some investigative agency.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE....as I was attempting to gain custody...breakout a dog that I was housing from a rescue. The front desk clerk (Estelle) appeared to make a grimace each time I told her something as if she did not believe a rescue existed, that the dog was licensed thru the rescue, or that I had only had the dog for a couple of weeks (fostering it only). Estelle said, I cannot find a record of her license for the dog...I see no license for the rescue, and she appeared to even have issues even locating their website. (The dog actually had a tag from the rescue on her collar and she was chipped yet the front desk could not locate her dog tag in the county that she was rescued in.) Total lack of knowledge apparently looking up info to help dog owners.I could not get ahold of the rescue so, the only way to get the dog out was to pay the cost for a new license ($75.00) even know I told her the rescue could verify the license. She did not even appear to care at all. I ask if there was a way I could bring the paperwork back and get my money back she said NO. I had to pay $20 dollars extra for a license fee...because I was late purchasing it...LOL Then I get a ticket for failure to properly register a dog in 2014. Hello Estella the dog is registered and I attempted to tell you that for two hours. You did not give a crap one way or the other and it was apparent in your customer service or lack of. I would never have someone with such an uncaring attitude or lack of empathy working a desk where she has to show any sympathy with pet owners on a daily basis...clearly she hates her job and it is reflected in her customer service or lack of.Another issue was the couple picking up their dog right behind me did not receive a citation...I have actually had a different dog in there about a year or two ago and did not get a citation for him...I believe that Estelle picks who she is going to cite and apparently she was not at the desk for my last dog over a year ago. Not sure why the couple picking up their stray dog was not cited behind me but they cannot play favorites and cite one person and not the next. I would like to know if anyone knows the grievance procedures. I think since this individual gave me such a hard time and then let the couple behind be go home with only a license purchase there is an issue at this shelter. You cannot treat individuals this way and treat two different people with different processes in a government funded facility. Unfair treatment took place here as she did just that.I finally got ahold of the rescue and they will contact the shelter in the morning...and verify exactly what I told Estelle. Yes...it was all TRUE! Sad that the shelter put me thru such an experience when I was trying to rescue a dog from them. Sad customer service. I have never been treated so poorly by an individual sitting in a customer service position. Horrible experience I was in tears before I left. Unfair and bias treatment!Your workers reflect on your business and poor service reflects on donations. One of the workers came out to the front desk during this time...did not get his name...but he bad mouthed rescues and said not all rescues are good ones...we just picked up dogs from a guy in Huber Heights that claimed to run a rescue...he was basically against rescues from the start that was clear. Why do you have animal haters working at the shelter...it clearly appears that the staff is not into animals and it is just a job. The volunteers appear to be the only ones that really truly care for the animals.Day two...I am home sick today with a migraine because of the stress and experience with Estelle yesterday. The dog has refused to go outside twice now and I have had to carry a perfectly normal dog out to the bathroom. This issue needs immediate attention and I am looking for additional support and methods to make sure this does not happen to whom ever the front desk deals with. Has anyone else dealt with or had issues with this shelter????
Editing after my friend found a box of kittens. Called and ask if they would take them. Told her it was $60 per pet, she had found 6, and they would be put down on arrival. 330 dollars for them to kill kittens. She decided to keep and re-home themnSad and shittly ran. Watching the neighbors fight cause shes super mean to the cats in the area , she put live trapped out. Ive been calling on her dog for jumping the fence and trying to hurt my kids and they wont do a damn to thing but you better believe a kitten steps on foot in her yard and shes on it and they show up
Dear Ohio Legislators, Please investigate animal shelter mismanagement here. Please inspect the misuse of funds as well as its hundreds of cases of improper euthanasia. The community is strongly concerned about the embezzlement and practices of Director Mark Kumpf and his chief Veterinarian, Kelly Meyer DVM, including inhumane animal treatment, mismanagement and botched medical procedures. While many shelter animals are strays, in perhaps dozens of other cases, a missing pet for which a family had been searching through heartbreak was destroyed needlessly. There is no excuse for running a shelter where peoples pets are routinely killed without even cursory attempts to find owners. Until this shelter is investigated, we would like a 60-day halt on euthanasia at the shelter for all animals not severely ill or suffering. We would like a subcommittee to fix all problems at the shelter. This shelter is a pro kill shelter. The people want to work with the city to create a positive and compassionate shelter that addresses the needs of every animal there.
IN MY OPINION based off of my own traumatic experience and research:This KILL SHELTER is absolutely terrible. They euthanize most animals. The staff will claim a dog as aggressive or say it has liver related issues. These are pretty much their two only fabricated diagnosis’s/excuses. The end result for both FALSE claims is, EUTHANASIA.Their euthanasia rate is just uncalled for and ridiculous. They do not properly follow laws. What goes on behind closed doors is absolutely disturbing. The staff either gets sucked in, or they have no success, no power to change or fix anything. The management and especially Director Mark Kumpf, will use their power against anyone trying to help. Kumpf is twisted, heartless. It’s as if he enjoys hurting people who either want to bring their dog home or who want to save a dog. He is a bad person and it will catch up to him one day. Same with the clinic veterinarian.I only hope one day, there will be a change in the way this facility is operated. Do your research, please.#justiceforDyson #justiceforValor
If i was able to give less i would. The man in charge is one of the most disrespectful and rude individuals i have ever met. After the officer came on my property and stole my dog off my porch, she told us if wed follow her we could get the dog back n not have to pay to get her out. Its the day before payday so i put my last few dollars in the tank to go get the dog. I arrive n fill out the paperwork and ask to speak to whoever is in charge. I spoke to a man name bob who told me i was lying. Lying about her tags being hers before he ever checked them. Telling me the officer knocked and noone answered, i was in my living room. That never happened. Said my dog was abandoned when my father was next door. Told us even though she was in our yard and not doing anything wrong, she was unconfined. He was rude n extremely disrespectful. The amount of times he kept calling us liars was ridiculous. We handed him her tags n told him to check. He continued to sit n talk down to us n treat us less than human. People are treated more humane in prison than they are at the animal shelter. After the man continued to call us liars and still hadnt went to check the tags (that was registered to the dog) i had enough of the disrespect i walked out and let my father deal with them. I really hope they treat animals better than they do people bc the man disrespected me and my family in every way aside from spitting on us. When my father told him the dog catcher said to follow her n we could get dog back without being charged, he once again called him a liar n told him either way he was citing him n if the officer says anything other than what my father said, that he would charge him for eveything. A person liske that shouldnt work with the public. He dwfinitely shouldnt have any type of power. That man needs fired. Some kind of action should be taken. Noone deserves to be talked to like that. If ur dog becomes lost or stolen i pray u dont have to come to the animal shelter to be treated like garbage by bob. Doesnt matter if u have tags, selfies, proof of address... Bob will talk to you like garbage without worrying bout facts.
Found 2 kittens and took them here. They wanted 60.00 per kitten to take them! I ask if they could pick up some of the dozen strays in our neighborhood? They said there is nothing they can do, the City of Dayton do not have any rules or laws to remove them!Update: Channel 2 News reported 4/30/2019. ARC is no longer accepting Cats!
I hope no one ever has the misfortune of dealing with this shelter, that is, if you even get the privilege to talk to someone. Their euthanasia rate is around 50 percent and some of their activities/policies border illegal. They use fear and intimidation to try and silence people who have had their animals seized illegally by this staff. I simply dont know how anyone could give them more than one star. All leadership needs to be removed.
We have gone to the center since it opened. Great VOLUNTEERS! They are very nice and actually smile. They may not have as much knowledge as the paid workers, but they will send you to someone that does.On the other hand, the paid workers need to be trained on customer service which includes attitude and knowledge.(1) Please SMILE at your customers (especially if they are smiling at you).(2) Please dont act as though you are INCONVENIENCED (especially when a customer merely walks up to the counter, you dont even know what we are going to say yet).(3) If you dont know something, please ask another worker instead of giving out wrong information. To end on a positive, the center is usually clean. Thank you.
I received a call this morning that my dog had been found and picked up by a MCARC officer (thanks to his Home Again microchip). Due to the recent tornado damage to our privacy fence, our boy Fagan had exited under the temporary fencing on an unauthorized field trip while I was showering :-(. MCARC was clean, well-staffed, and had an established but efficient process for vetting me and my ownership of the dog. We were reunited in minutes. Thank you very much for your efficient and compassionate handling of Fagan.
Whatever you do, do NOT turn over an animal to this place! They are not a shelter at all. Their main goal is to keep the public uninformed and intimidated so they can continue to kill helpless, innocent animals. Mark Kumpf and most of the employees should be ashamed. I dont know how you live with yourselves! Change is coming!! Soon this place will be run by people who actually love animals.
Disgusting place! Doesn’t even deserve 1star, should be negative stars!!! I know what they did to Valor who had rescues lined up and WILLING to help, but they murdered him anyway. After reading other reviews from people, I’m even more outraged that this place is still in business. The animals left there need to be rescued and the place shut down!
PLEASE know that this is a kill shelter and that if you bring a stray in here with the slightest thing wrong with it, they will put it down and even if you live in Montgomery County, you could still have to pay a HEFTY fee for them to take the stray depending on where you live. Youre better off taking care of it until you can personally find someone else to take it or finding another place that doesnt kill over simple little things. From experience, I was told a stray I brought in would be put down if it had a simple cat cold that could be fixed easily. This broke my heart. Unfortunately the cat was very sick with other things and was put down for that but just knowing that they will euthanize over any little thing rubbed me the wrong way. I will NEVER bring another animal to this location. I urge others to find someone/somewhere else that isnt so inhumane to just kill over any little thing to drop strays off at.
This is the worst place, the staff is so insanely rude, whether in person or over the phone (if anyone even answers). Went there once to look for our dog who had run off and a guy in line was having his put to sleep but begging ppl in line to take her. My wife and I did and the staff were so pissed at us for saving the dog. She went on to live out the rest of her life happy since she was brought there to be killed only bc she was old. They also put an entire litter of puppies to sleep bc they had parvo, claiming it was easier than spending the money. This place is disgusting and so are the employees.
This place can be just horrible, or it can be a good experience. it ALL dependes on who you get at the front desk, though i have to say its usually awful. what is about state workers and their seeming hatred of their jobs? because most of the people who work here, seem to hate their jobs, the customers, and they dont seem to particularly care about animals either. the one thing i will say is that euthanizing animals is an ugly action, that we have to deal with. there are soooo many homeless uncared for animals out there, that they have to put some of them down, thats all there is to it. and a large segment of people who own animals are at fault! too many pet owners just will not have their animals spayed or neutered. then their cat or dog gets out and impregnates another animal. do you know how many litters of kittens a feral cat can have in a year? theres no way to adopt them all out. all that being said, these workers are just horrible and act like youre bothering them, the minute you approach one of them, AT THEIR JOB! im going to make a formal complaint{for all the good it will do, this place has been like this for a long time}with the head of the center and i wishyou would all do the same. it might, at least, make you feel better! LOL
We left our info to let the workers know to please call us before if they have to put the kitten down that we brought in. Three days later we find out that it was euthanized for having a cold. They stated their policy is to put down any animal that has something that is contagious.....it was a COLD. This kitten had a forever home waiting for it with her brother that was found in the park the day after we took this kitten into the shelter for care. Her brother had already been taken to the vet and checked out okay, aside from the cold. Im wondering if these people have become desensitized to the immediate killing of strays. Dont take anything there unless its perfect. They only take perfect strays.
Unprofessional. Dishonest. They are a rescue shelter yet they dont feed their pets as required; Someone needs rescue pets from THEM. The cages are filthy. The staff doesnt wear gloves. I feel so sorry for the animals here. As someone else stated in a previous review: people get treated more humanely in prison than animals get treated in this shelter.
Please fire the director, Mark Kumpf, already! This place is a waste of our tax dollars! How about using it for community outreach and foster programs, instead of just killing? How about using social media to advertise adoptable animals, and holding more than just two adoptions per year? Despite ample funding and resources, as well as a multi-million dollar building, this shelter is stuck in the 80s and chooses to catch-and-kill.
The staff doesn’t really go out of their way to be friendly. I only went in to purchase a dog license and had to wait while an incredibly annoying customer walked back and forth from the desk to the door on her phone for a good 15 minutes before anyone else came to assist in the growing line of people.
Do not take any animal there! Mark is a horrible person who does not follow court orders or obey the laws because he thinks hes above them. This place needs a major clean of house! I cant believe you try to make your self out to help animals! Shame on Mark and all the staff that thinks this is okay. Your judgement day will come.
The staff needs to let people know thier walk through hours when talking to people over the phone. Stop telling people to come in and then when they get there the staff just looks at thier website and sends you on your way. You put animals down after 3 days its a bit cruel to refuse a walk through. Its time for change.
Staying from out of town and I will never come to ohio again. The hotel I am staying in has a stray cat problem; However, when I called animal control to come out and address it, they replied that “In Ohio, cats are allowed to roam free. They are considered the same as squirrels and things like that.” Cats- classified the same as rodents....Iasked if they had any sort of trap, spay/neuter and release program, they said no.WHAT IS YOUR JOB THEN?NEVER in my life have I heard of an animal control agency that openly ignores stray animals. I will NEVER COME TO THIS STATE AGAIN. Bunch of hillbillies.
The ONLY reason they get even a single star is because I cant rate them any lower. Nothing can rate as low as the head honcho - Mark Kumpf! He uses lies and scare tactics to take inocinno pets away and kill them before anything can be done. In the most recent case, a dog named Stormy was put down even though there was a scheduled court hearing in which she was cleared of charges. There may be good people at the facility, but if so, they have been powerless to do anything. JUSTICE FOR STORMY AND ALL THE OTHER WRONGFULLY TERMINATED LIVES!!!
They deserve no stars. The employees are heartless and uncaring. Chances are if an animal ends up here, it is going to die. The commissioners need to change this - it has been going on far too long. They have the big new building but it is still just a high kill shelter. When will it change?????
This place are Murderers the director and the vet have the highest number of kills in this state probably the country! They are evil and any animal dropped here is on a death sentence they lie on diagnosis and kill the animals. They sell overpriced I may add the pure breeds. They need exposed and prosecuted.
The women at the front desk are SO unhelpful. You ask a question and they act like youre trying to give them the third degree. Rude and standoffish but because theyre govt employees I can understand that they must only want to do the bare minimum and then get their paycheck. Definitely put a bad taste in my mouth. I will definitely be adopting from somewhere else.
Found out today that it is approved by the arc for my next door neighbor to live trap my outdoor cats out in her unfenced front yard, clamimng they are going into her back yard. Arc said its ok. Pretty sad. Outdoor pets are not illegal and giving someone the ok to trap my animals, well knowing they are mine, is wrong.
The cost for picking up and simply euthanizing and disposing animals is horrendous, in both the philosophical and the economic sense. I wish I could adopt all the animals here and redistribute them across the US because this county fails to do so. Mark Kumpf is a disaster.
Terrible place that kills animals before trials. Director mark kumpf needs to lose his job since he is an awful human being and doesn’t even know how to run the place. And his connections make sure that the news false reports so that he doesn’t get into trouble or lose his job. But why would the animals matter it’s just a check to him.
This is the worst organization I have ever dealt with. The staff at the front desk or who answer the phone are extremely rude and misinformed. I gather from others I have talked to Im not the only person with a bad experience. The ARC has quite a reputation for their ignorant staff. I will deal with another county in the future and suggest to all others to do the same.

2022-02-22I totally recommend getting an animal from here. Everyone was super nice, helpful, and informative. Not only that, I got an awesome dog out of this experience. I had never gone the route of getting a dog from the pound and was a little weary. But with love and patience shes a great fit to our family. Plus all the benefits that are linked with going through the center is just something you cant pass up.

2022-04-29The workers are very friendly and helpful. They were great about educating us and we could tell Nova had been well taken care of. The facility is clean, doesnt smell, and the kennels are kept clean. I would definitely recommend this place if youre looking for a furbaby. They helped us find the perfect fit for us and our kids. We couldnt be more excited for our new addition or more grateful to the ARC for helping us meet her.

2021-10-17I would like to say thank you very much for my dog Chester. I adopted him back in 2008 and he was the most loving animal. He just recently passed away on October 13,2021. I will definitely be adopting another in the future.

2022-05-07I recently adopted a dog from this shelter which was described as being nervous. It turned out to be not socialized but fearful and aggressive outdoors. The animal would growl, bark, and lunge at people, especially kids, as well as other animals. As a first time dog owner I was way over my head. The animal appeared to be very much damaged due to prior abuse. I was afraid it would hurt somebody, therefore made the difficult and heartbreaking decision to bring it back. Apparently at one time the vet at the shelter had recommended that this dog should be put down because of aggressive behavior. This animal needed extensive training and rehabilitation but was put up for adoption again right away, so most likely this cycle will repeat itself. Im still in favor of adopting a shelter dog, but will be more careful next time around. As sad as it is, sometimes not every animal can be saved.

2022-03-30I came home to a stray dog in my yard with no collar or tags, she was charging at me and growling, then she would be friendly for a second then go back to being aggressive. She was also very skinny. I called the ARC they said they couldnt take any strays even though thats what they are there for... To control the stray population and keep the citizens safe. I told them she was kinda friendly but then started growing and charging, and that she was skinny. They wanted pics of her so I sent them only for them to tell me she wasnt skinny enough and I basically had to release her. I want going to endanger my children or my pets by letting this dog roam my property so I got hey into my small dog pen. I made several FOUND posts and I called every animal shelter/rescue in Montgomery county. Icannot keep this aggressive dog at my home. Now I dont know what to do

2022-03-05Everyone we spoke with at the ARC was extremely helpful, they made sure we knew all the things our new family member had been struggling with and they gave us all the tools we need to make sure our girl was going to have as smooth transition from shelter to home. Only a couple of hours after bringing her home she and her new sister were laying on the couch together! Thank you all so much for everything!

2022-03-12Pros: Good glean facility for the animals. Staff is nice. Cons: No cats here at this location and they were overrun with pit bulls when we visited, sad to see and not much variety unfortunately.

2021-12-28The place was very clean. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. A couple of people were there looking to adopt dogs. One woman was actually being briefed about her newly adopted dog. Again I was truly amazed by the cleanliness.
