Lawd have mercy…Angie Angie Angie.. I must confess your love for food and family surely showed up and out 🤤today muah thank you so much for a delicious 🤤 lunch me and my children enjoyed it…next time I have to get the pinto beans my son wouldn’t share his ♥️pork chop collard Greens macaroni and cheese with candied yams and peach cobbler 😘
This was an experience to attend. Upon being the second people in line we expected our food to be made somewhat quick but roughly 45 minutes later and asking the cashier ( who was nice ) about our food we finally received it. The food itself just solidified the experience since the chicken sandwich we order was just two chicken wings between two pieces of white bread that I could buy at a gorcery store . Guess boneless chicken just doesnt exist anymore since now a chocking hazard of a wing bone in a sandwich is the norm at Angies. The porkchop sandwich was the same thing with the bone included so have fun pulling the bone out of your sandwich.I want to continue but just know that the sides were undercooked and underseasoned so I recommend you just go to the Popeyes down the street
Waited 25 minutes for order as others who ordered after my order was placed received their order. Macaroni-dry, black eye peas- bland, yams-canned, greens-canned, dressing-brick hard,chicken-seasonless, fish-decent, cabbage-over cooked and salty. Cashier who begs for a tip by singing [starts with a T ends with a P with a dot in the middle like little oh me], pressures to tip. A beverage they refer to as punch was nothing more than over sweetened Koolaid. Floors were sticky and unapologetic for the extremely long delay of order!!!
The staff are very friendly and nice. The wait was not long. The food looked and smelled great. However, the Western Style Ribs had about 3 small ones that was tender and juicy. The rest of the ribs were very VERY tough and I couldnt chew them. And, the Mac n Cheese had no flavor.
I ordered 3 large sides came up to 35$ lady kept swiping my card smh but anyways the Mac and cheese was water noodles no seasoning with shredded cheese the dressing was really dry the gravy was good the greens were either dirty or something they were very bitter and nasty corn bread was dry as well I bit it and almost chocked I ordered on Friday it’s Sunday night and the sides are still in the fridge I couldn’t eat it so I’ll be throwing away 35$ the sweet potato pie was the bomb so thumbs up to the chicken gravy and pie !
Im in it for the food. In fairness not the most pristine place but the food was fantastic! There was nothing that I didnt like. Too sweet and salty to eat every day but man it was good. The sweet tea in a mason jar was a great touch. And holey cow the chicken was perfect.
My family and I were visiting the city and had cravings for some Soul Food. Searched google and this place came up. Look at the reviews and was like okay let’s go here. Honestly the food was terrible!! I had a Pork Chop meal with Mac and cheese, Yams, and Dressing. The Pork Chop was the only thing that was good because it was fresh. The Mac and cheese was super dry and it tasted like it was missing a key ingredient. The yams I don’t know but something was off about the flavor, NOW THAT DAMN DRESSING NEEDS TO BE THROWN OUT!! I don’t know what that was but it sure as heck wasn’t no dressing. Disgusting isn’t even the word for that dressing. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of one is because the guy who took the order was pretty nice.
Smothered chicken and rice, Tammy was graceful and fast. By the time I swiped food was ready, the young Aries male great attitude. As I eat this chicken it falls off the bone, mixed with the gravy . I can tell love and time prepared this meal.Best part is this location is cashless venue
Chicken was good, fries soggy and burned, coleslaw noooo taste or seasoning,. No legs, no mashed potatoes but meatloaf is the special., No ribs and its a SOULFOOD spot, 😂😆 Supposed to come with 2 sides but if you want dressing its $1.00 extra!! WHY???? LONG time before someone came over and the restaurant was EMPTY!!!!
Very friendly place. Food was surprisingly good as we chose this place very quickly and our Uber driver didnt think much of the place. I had the baked chicken and dressing with mac and cheese. Meal came with gravy and corn bread. With a drink: $13. Food was brought to our table. This place is all about the food.
This was my second visit to Angies. This time I ordered thru Uber Eats. It was the worse chicken and mash potatoes I ever had. The chicken was dry, overcooked and hard as a brick. The mashed potatoes was lumpy and flavorless. I didnt even try the cornbread. It appeared hard and didnt smell good. People dont waste your time at this place. I called and the lady was nasty, short and mean.
Was me and my husbands first time going omg the food was delish. The staff were very nice and the service was quick. I cant wait to go back. The bathroom wasnt the cleanest and the corn muffins were to hard. Other than that awesome. I definitely suggest trying the 7up pound cake, it was heaven on a plate lol loved it.
This place could easily get a rating of 5 if the staff was a little bit nicer and the facilities were a little cleaner. The parking isnt the best but they do have it in front of the building so that is appreciated. Their food is excellent! I try to make a point to come here at least once a month. I have not been disappointed with anything I have chosen. The macaroni and cheese and the candied yams are my favorite. Ive also tried the peach cobbler which was shockingly very similar to my grandmothers. I will be back.
Hi everyone. Since i choose to not eat any more meat i decided to try their veggie delight with a muffin and i must say that every bite was like the first. Im not from this area but i would gladly revisit, also this five start includes a good welcoming from the staff.
Were it not for high amount of salt in one of menu items I ordered -- black-eyed peas, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and dressing -- I might have given 5 stars because I received my food quickly via Door Dash and the food would have tasted great without all the salt the blacke-eyed peas contained. The blacke-eyed peas tasted like a box of salt had spilled into the pot when they were being cooked. Black people already have a high rate of hypertension, which can ultimately lead to death. Given that, its irresponsible the to serve extremely salty food in a restaurant that caters to black people.
Its a family owned restaurant. The staff was very friendly! I actually wanted to just sit there and hang out a little longer but I couldnt. They were soooo cool. Down to earth. Just wholesome people. The food was good. I got the tilapia, yams and greens. Loved it! The restaurant is updated. They put money in the establishment!! Its very cozy!! They dont accept cash. They were baking sweet potato pies and it smelled soooo good, looked good too. Everything is cooked fresh. This is not a fast food restaurant!! So expect to wait for your food to be cooked. They call your ticket by your name which I liked. It made me feel like they made it personal. I would definitely come back!
First, this is on Palm Sunday. The greating was gracious, appreciation all around. (You know why!) Now about the food. You may think its a little pricey AT FIRST, but finally the food is worth the price. Better than Bullhorns place or the lobster place.LMAO. They are the first in Cleveland maybe Ohio to be 100% cashless as they say. Again signs of the times people. Just one mans Opinion. You will Want To actually leave a tip.
The food is pretty good. Different options to satisfy your soul food craving. I ordered through door dash and my sweet potato pie was missing. But the delicious food made up for it and I had no more room left for anything else. I love the wings. My crew enjoyed the chicken and waffles. The baked chicken and dressing is also a great dish.
I love this place! Their food is the bomb! And it is so worth the trip from Akron! They are not allowing sit down and the wait time to pick up was a little long, but the food was great! Hot, tasty and more than enough. I especially love the Pork Chops and gravy and my friend always gets the Catfish, then we share, that way we have some of both!!
I ordered carryout online, and still had to wait a long time before my order was ready. The food was not as good as their St. Clair locations food is.The pork chops were (overcooked) fried way too hard. The macaroni noodles were soggy, and the cheese was not melted properly. And, the greens tasted like yams.Obviously, someone dipped them out of the pot, with the same spoon. However, the peach cobbler and the black eyed peas were OK.
Ordered smothered pork chops and was disappointed. The smothered chops did not appear to have been smothered at all...gravy was from packet gravy mix that seems to have been poored over oven cooked chops. I am used to smothered chops that have been fried and then smothered in a homemade style gravy that is made from adding what is needed to smother and simmer til tender and flavorful. Wont order them again or recommend them to anyone...very flat in the taste and not tender like smothered chops should be.
Where do I start, ok the dressing (stuffing) talk about wet croutons that been sun dried. and the mac and cheese, lets just say I would have rather had box macaroni with the powder cheese. And yes that look like premium cat food they try to pass off as meatloaf. I luv my local black own business but if this is what u have to offer than just stick to the Kool-aid
The restaurant opened at 11. We were greeted by the cashier, who was on the telephone. She clearly was preoccupied with her telephone conversation. She never mentioned the waffles were made withwheat flour. Unfortunately, the wheat waffleswere NOT very good.. Could never get the cashiers attention to get the rest room key. Several people stood at the counter waiting for sevice. Three people walked outWithout ordering. 20 minutes after the people walked out, cashier appeared with a child on her hip.
If they worked as much as they talk maybe they could get people in and out.I count six people working, but Ive waited over 40 minutes for food that is already cooked.Black people always want you to support their business, but they have the absolute worst customer service.
Im surprised with all of the positive reviews. I really wanted to like the place having been a fan of Hot Sauce Williams. I was greatly disappointed. I have to say, the prices are extremely high for the portions you are getting. I spent close to a hundred dollars trying to feed my seven kids. As far as what to eat, might as well avoid white meat altogether, like pork chops, because theyll be dry unless theres a pound of sauce on them. You cant really mess up dark meat, or can you? Very bland food. The food is nothing unique or special, and really below average in terms of seasoning and spices. This location is also cash free. Although I understand the easiness of being cash free, it sends a pretty strong message to the community, and most people in this community prefer to pay cash for their food. Also, I dont think the new digital sign is not adding value to the place and is distracting. Further, the advertising on the sign goes against what the local black community stands for. It should be promoting other black owned businesses. The two stars are for the friendliness of the staff, and now more than ever its important to support your Black owned business, even when they were very disappointing.
Order the pork chop dinner 2 of them actually at dinner 2 of them actually and they both were supposed to come with 2 sides for supposed to come with 2 sides however I only got one talked to the supervisor talk to the supervisor whos slightly rude not professional at all When asked for a portion of my money back because I did not receive my whole order. Because it doesnt make sense to pay for food that you did not receive right? My experience with talking to the Supervisor and the person who answered the phone was horrible.
I Love Angies (Lee & Harvard, Emery Rd) and it’s disheartening to even have to submit this review but I was disappointed in this one (Carnegie) I ordered a wing dinner the chicken was decent but collard greens and yams was something out of a Horror cooking show. I don’t know if the staff back there is getting high or just don’t give AF. This was my FIRST time at this location and my LAST time at this location. Once again Lee & Harvard , Emery Rd are Great locations and so is there customer service.
Ordered the chicken dinner. The chicken wings were great!!!The sides, naw, not so much. The greens tasted bland and canned. The mac and cheese, oh no, no, no!!!That wasnt no mac and cheese!!! It was noodles with shredded cheese. This was my first and last time trying it. Come on, it is soul food, not canned dry food!!!
Sooooo not tryna be rude but....im not sure if theres a new chef in the kitchen or if it was just a bad day but the food was BLAND. No soul in the food at all. Went to the Carnegie location and got the wings with greens and rice w/ gravy. And the cornbread was cold. No bueno. Gave it a 2 star bc its black owned but in order to get more stars from me I gotta have some improvement. Dont think Ill stop there again tho tbh. 🤷🏾♀️
First time going wasnt impressed as I thought. I ordered three piece snack with sauce, greens, yams, and potato salad. The greens was nasty as ever no taste them, taste like nobody bothered to even season them. Chicken, potato salad was ok, the yams was good but a lil too sweet. I wont be returning, wasnt soil satisfying.
I cant recommend this place enough! Definitely a must try!My sister and I had the fried catfish with fries, macaroni and cheese, and black eyed peas. It was so delicious that I want to order it again today! My sisters snack pack was just the right size for her. I ordered the regular sized meal, and I have enough for lunch today.I dont know how they fry their catfish, but it was absolutely perfect! The batter was tasty, the fish flakey, and it was not greasy in the slightest.Thank you, Angies, for providing some comfort while our mom is in the hospital!
I had half of baked chicken, yams, string beans, macn cheese and dressing with gravy. I also had a slice of carrot cake. Everything was very good and pretty good portions. Macn cheese could have been a bit more in portion, but overall a satisfying dinner and dessert. Staff quickly served customers and very welcoming.
I went to get the baked chicken, dressing, macaroni, yams, and Banana pudding. I was let down, the food tasted like it had been left out for days. I listened to the google reviews and I have to say this place let me down. Not only did my food taste but it looked funny. I should’ve knew when I saw the food that it was old. I had the worst stomach ache and bowel pain. I literally couldn’t do anything because of the food poisoning I got.
Great atmosphere excellent food selection. My experience was great just like their cooking ♥️.I want to add this extra reason to support this business, I witnessed an act of kindness by this company a homeless couple walked in stood by the counter and the cashier asked were they ready to order and the guy said they didn’t have any money it was another gentleman in Angies waiting on his order he gave the couple $5 but the cashier took their order and gave it to them no charge, that’s charity at work/in motion, I will forever support this brand this company, they hire genuine godly employees ♥️💯👏🏿👏🏿Thank you!
I have frequent this place off and on several times and it amazes me that they still have that macaroni and cheese on the menu. There is nothing creamy or cheesy about it. The mac and cheese is made with one cheese which is cheddar. It is tasteless and needs improvement. The greens are nasty and to much sugar is added. There is no meat at least cook them in broth. However their liver and onions is good and the chicken & gravy is good. The dressing was dry so get extra gravy people. Angies back in the day when it was on Superior was THE BOMB!!! I dont know what happend when they moved to St Clair then to 79th they have went down. But I would still eat there from time to time. If I am out of options and need something fast.
I do want this business to succeed. But they must get a professional system to coordinate the service. We waited 40 minutes for our food then my husband’s food came mine did not. Waited 15 more minutes while he ate then went up to the service door only to find out they had sat our ticket down and never finished filling the order. Waited another 10 minutes before they brought mine. Nobody apologized. The man and his young son next to us had the same experience. PLEASE get some professional help to run your operation! I will try back one more time. As to the food:.. rice and gravy..good. greens..a little too greasy, black eye peas a little too smoky. Fried chicken..good. Good service and consistent food quality is essential to your success.
In Cleveland for the weekend with family and was recommended this restaurant. The food is delicious! I had the catfish with mac and cheese and candied yams. The fish was seasoned well and I had a great portion. The pineapple lemonade was outstanding and the manager was gracious enough to provide a healthy sample of their banana pudding. Damon provided great customer service while we dined in. Would definitely be back when I come back. Overall a great experience. Great service and great food! If youre in the area, stop by and check them out.
Been hearing about this place for years, and after the money we spent Im totally unimpressed! Candied yams are icky sweet, and everything else was prepared in a salt mine. Mac n cheese tasteless and the greens no comment. There was a constant stream of customers so each to his own!
The chicken and dressing was very good. I love the candied yams and cornbread as well. The greens were a nice consistency but werent very flavorful. The mac and cheese was a bit bland but had a nice consistency. The atmosphere was inviting and very warm. I enjoyed eating at a soul food restaurant that was classy and inviting.
The food was good but because Im rating this as the overall experience they lost points due to wait time, order not completed correctly, and food choice not available until after I placed order. Check your order before you leave and ask for condiments. This was the Carnegie location.
Very long wait time, mac n cheese was not cheesey or flavorful, waffle was tough and taste like gingerbread and peach cobbler was soupy. Wing dings were good tho. Had to go back because they forgot syrup and a side order. Chicken and dressing meal was okay. Staff friendly, no problems there.
Placed order over phone. When I got there I had to wait an additional 25 minutes for corn muffins. Pork chops Fried too hard.....as bricks. Forgot my macaroni cheese. Cabbage wasnt seasoned. We waited all this time for Angie’s to open and for what? This mess!!! Will never recommend! Highly disappointed. Will never go againWill B
ZERO STARS....... SUPER expensive for what you get.....chicken was AT BEST mediocre, sides were bland. For a soul food place in Cleveland it should have been WAY better. Where was the seasoning, where was the soul??? They dont take cash for your order, but they sure do accept a cash tip. Do yourself a favor and just cook at home 🤦♀️🤷♀️
Ordered delivery. Smothered pork chops are DRY AND HARD! Order receipt had 1 wrong dinner on it. And they still packed it wrong from their receipt!!!! And, catfish dinner missing entirely. What a waste. Ordered from them on Thursday, and everything was good. But, today, EVERTHING IS A MESS, AND HORRIBLE.
I enjoyed the western rib meal that I had. I came back to get the meal again and it was sold out 😡 so I ordered the 4 piece chicken breast meal and the greens were super salty 😞. Overall, I will eat here again. I just wish that the menu had a bit more to offer. The atmosphere was nice and clean so thats a plus.
Love supporting small businesses. But mannnn.-Macaroni - mushy. Over cooked-Potato salad - I dont know what I was eating.-Fries - stale. Taste like it just sat there for a bit-Catfish - ok so its breaded.-Catfish sandwich - its just the catfish on wheat bread.Come on guys! I want you guys to be good.
The food was not good the smothered pork chops had so much gravy that you had to pour the gravy off to find the pork chops which were a reheat from the night before we had french fries that were so soggy we just threw them away 2meals were $28 it was not worth it. I wouldnt eat their again.
Horrible.... after waiting 45 min for a single meal, I inquired about how much longer it would be to get my order. The service guy, think his name was James, got rude with me because I politely as if I asked him if he could find out that status of my order... as if I did something to offend him. The manager lady was much more kind. That was my first, and last visit. I had high hope for my experience, but nah.
Fantastic quality and fantastic service. I brought a group of Veteran senior citizens from my job there for lunch on Tuesday, AND THEY LOVED IT. I even brought food back from my fellow staff. They handled all of my requests and orders with poise, grace, and organized effort. We could not be more thrilled with the place. My Vets cant wait to come back next month!
Drove from the west side of Cleveland to be highly disappointed, the smothered pork chops were over cooked, rice under cooked, the green beans were straight out of a can no seasoning the gravy was out of a can!!! The chicken and dressing was extremely salty, the greens were straight out of the can no seasoning!!! The worse food we’ve ever had!!! Totally just paid $30 for a meal we could not eat!!!! We want to support black businesses, this was the worse experience ever!!!!
Love this place. Get the beef short ribs dinner! Love the cabbage and the macaroni is always on point! Chicken wings are properly seasoned and always crispy and never greasy. I can never leave without a pound cake or one of their Kool-Aid mixes with lemonade! I also love the dressing and gravy with baked chicken. Just prepare to wait as theres always a line and the customer service can be spotty. Ive had some really friendly staff and some really rude staff depending on the location.
Fish was more batter than fish and it was fried too long. The double chocolate cake was soooo hard they should have been ashamed to sell it, hard and dry! Best part of the meal were the side dishes, green beans and greens with the cornbread muffin. After hearing so many great reviews from others I was not impressed and wont return.
Thank you Damon, Courtney, And both Q’s for the spectacular service! The food was outstanding! This place is highly recommended from each of my nine family members who attended. This place puts the Soul and Souls with the good music, warm delightful atmosphere and phenomenal team working diligently to provide us a HOT meal. Again thank you from Dayton/Columbus! Well be returning for certain.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Fastest and best soul food Ive ever experienced in Cleveland. Good menu options. Well staffed. Only been open a couple of days. I know it only gets better. Think Ill be a regular on my trips to Cleveland. The only drawback is they dont take cash
Sad to say I was disappointed, I remember Angies having delicious food. I ordered a 4pc white dinner with mac & dressing. My chicken had no flavor, mac was just ok, my biggest disappointment was the dressing which was $1 upcharge as a side. Way too much sage! I couldnt taste anything but sage I could not eat it. I was working that evening purchased this meal, not at all happy with my purchase
I was not impressed by their soul food. I was in town from NY for a Browns game and wanted some soul food. I went in for dinner and ordered fried chicken, greens, mac and cheese and cornbread. The chicken was too salty and not fresh at all. The mac and cheese was delicious. The greens were a bit under cooked needed more seasoning and overly crunchy. And the cornbread was hard and tasteless. I will never return or recommend this establishment for soul food.
Angies is a landmark in Cleveland, and for this institution to go down like it have is a tragity (meaning) the food is not very tasty. When youall first open up at the new location, the food was very good. What happen? The meal that I purchased was not good, the pork chops was hard and the cabbage was tasteless and the candid yams had too much cinnamon and not sweet enough. Please listen to the not so please customers and get some cooks that know how to cook (soul food) I want youall to be around many many more years. Thank You.
Food is Delicious! Southern cooking, and Southern portions ! They are not skimpy, and you get what you pay for. I had smothered pork chops, blackeyed peas, greens, and a side of yams with cornbread. Everything was perfectly prepared and flavors was on point. The chops were tender, the greens were delicious, the blackeyed peas had a rich, smokey flavor that did not come from a bottle. It reminded me of the Sunday dinners I had with my Family growing up. My Mom was Southern Girl, raised on a farm in Tennessee. She was a great Cook ! This food takes me back to her kitchen again. I am certainly happy to visit them again & again 🤗
Just had 2 meals delivered from Angies on 79th. The meals arrived hot enough not to have to be reheated. Very pleased with the greens, green beans and mac and cheese, all seasoned just right. Loved the corn muffin. Chicken was crispy and seasoned just right. Only four stars because the thighs were under cooked.
Slow if they dont know you. Several regulars that came in after us got their food before us. we waited 20 minutes and something was missing. The greens were too salty. The salmon patty was dry. I will not go back. I grew up on southern food. I bought food for four people, one said barbecue sauce was too sweet.
Every time I drive past this place, I remember how terrible the food was. I ordered food from here and the order was wrong and the food that was correct tasted like it had be reheated several times, cheap nasty food for expensive prices. Soul food is pretty easy and inexpensive shouldn’t be hard for a soul food cafe to make good food. Would never recommend
The anticipation was worth it! Dt , well priced for the portions! I got the Catfish fillet with black-eyed peas, and Mac and cheese, Yummy! Corn bread had a smooth texture and taste. And the peach cobbler was sweet and delicious! Pepsi products and a small selection of beers, make this place a destination for the family and friends! This is a totally cashless place, all other payments are excepted. Angie and Jeanette Damen just added a special touch to the experience with their smiles and professionalism!
It wasnt the greatest soul food Ive had in my life, but it was okay for what it was. They didnt have all the entrees on the menu available the day I was there. The cashier and the kitchen was professional especially with us coming in with a large group. I cant complain too much, I enjoy supporting Black owned businesses.
It was terrible went for lunch yesterday and nothing was good the lady at the counter had the worst attitude. Got chicken wings, greens,Mac and cheese and a slice of pound cake. The wings were dry and cold greens didn’t have any favor and the Mac and cheese was over cooked and didn’t have any flavor the cornbread that they gave us tasted like it was frozen then reheated and hard as a brick over priced for nasty food don’t see how thy stayed in business this long.
UPDATED REVIEW:I had to update my review because what I just saw was down right disgusting. I came back here for the 2nd time and brought my 12 year old with. We had an amazing lunch and at the end we went to wash our hands in their restroom. It is beyond words how disgusting the restroom was. I can’t believe they would even allow people to use something so dirty. Not to mention, your employees have to use that. I will not ever come back here. It took everything in me not to puke up everything we had just ate.OLD REVIEW:Superb!! Those pies are literally slap ya momma good omg. Staff are all so kind. My only (small) gripe was how unorganized everything felt. The food definitely makes up for it though. I’ll be coming back again and again.
Went there this past Sunday limited food available basically leftovers from the night before. I ordered Short Ribs of beef $17 which were not short ribs it looked more like beef stew meat 4 small dry unseasoned cubes smothered in gravy that taste like it came out a jar not homemade the Mac and cheese was ok Ive had better, the greens were cold and tough and them yams taste like they were cooked in lemon juice the corn muffin was hard as a brick. Customer service sucks. I will not be returning and never will I recommend this to anyone. This is soul food at its lowest!!!
1st time here and i highly lack interest in returning. The servers were lifeless and monotone in greeting and taking orders. Good to see a large crowd but seemed to b a large crowd of out-of-towners with no knowledge of the place. These same folks sat entertaining themselves with empty table only to b served with cold dry cornbread.. It was a long wait for only an order of 3wings and rice for an early lunch. Not only was the temperature in the building a lil high for the weather but with ever passing minute i look around and see costumers tempers flare waiting to b served meals they order more than 10mins ago... As much as i love to support my people of color, i wont b returning to this place...
The communication has to improve at the Carnegie location , waited 42 minutes for my order and they told me it was because of the fries 38 minutes into me waiting which by the way came out soggy and unseasoned. No compensation or apology for the wait or food quality. Fish was cold smashed corn muffins and the kool aid still had alot of sugar in the bottom.
I ordered smothered pork chop, mac and cheese, and greens which was good but my boyfriend ordered smothered chicken and they gave him old chicken with no meat on it and poured a bunch of thick clumpy gravy on top. He went to return his food and they forgot to give us our yams( which was really runny). The muffins were very hard and dry. We asked the girl taking our order what was her favorite or what she recommended and she says Oh I dont eat this food here only on certain days because the person thats cooking, I dont like the way he cook. Which was a red flag. 1st time going and my last.
My friends and I stopped in Feb 25,2019 after auditioning for The Big Brothers show all 3 of us ordered the same thing a 4 piece white fried chicken dinner with Mac and cheese that was bland, yams tasted like it had apple sauce in it, the corn bread seems as if it was from the day before and or sitting in the warmer too long because it was like a hard rubber sponge, the greens had to much viniger in them and finally the chicken wasnt fried fresh and not hot.I frequented this place once before when I was in the Cleveland area and I recommended this place to my friends and it turned out that the food was awful to them and I Im not saying dont give this place a try but that day it was awfulHopefully someone have a better experience. Dont let this review deter you from trying this place at least once.
LITERALLY NO ONE HAS A FACE MASK ON CORRECTLY OR AT ALL. I ALREADY HAD PAID FOR MY FOOD BUT PUT IT IN THE GARBAGE WITH OUT EVEN OPENING IT. SOME OF US ARE CONCERNED ABOUT COVID-19 ANGIES SOUL FOODThis is a 2nd review 1 month laterSTILL NO MASKS ON CORRECTLY OR AT ALL. I just walked out. I spend at 50$ every time I come here. Im sure another restaurant will take my money
Old grease is not for cooking. Angies use to have really good food. Today it was horrible. Porkchops fried in old grease. Made the porkchops taste terrible. Noodles were overcooked and it had chunks of cheese but no creamy mac and cheese. It was thrown together. What happened to the good cooks. Dont think I will be back. U se to be really good. ..so sad. Wont be open to long if it doesnt gettogether
I gave it 2 stars for the service and the yams. I got the fried fish, Mac and cheese, yams and greens. I expected so much more. The greens had to flavor and tasted of dish soap and lacked the green color of greens. The fish tasted freezer burned and was full of corn meal again not even a taste of salt o pepper. Finally, the Mac and cheese was a bit oily cheese was minimum and you can tell they just dropped the egg in the Mac and cheese. Stir he egg in the mixture ad salt and pepper at least. I wont be back
Not much choice on meat. Sides were good, Chicken was not fresh and too much salt. I had chicken and waffle, no butter or syrup. No mention of Cinnamon in waffle. My mom had Grilled Talapia. Rice was ok. Took over 20 minutes before we left. My friends said this place was so good.
Was a little disappointed. I ordered fried fish and got a whole bunch of itty bitty pieces that wasnt really meaty. Fish looked like it was refried. Didnt have a golden brown look nor did it taste fresh. The atmosphere was a family atmosphere. The pound cake was really moist and good.
The new location at the old Hot Sauce Williams was nicely decorated. Its a credit card ONLY restaurant. However, I must say I was disappointed when I dined in and they served my food on a foam container, with plastic flatware, and I was given a plastic cup. The food has also changed.
Wondered over here because it was no parking downtown. Ive been to the Lee Rd location and it was decent but this was horrible. We had a bus to catch and were in a hurry. Thought chicken and waffles would be quick. Took nearly a half hour. Chicken was hard as a brick, waffles tasted like chicken batter with a bunch of salt and seasoning. Nastiest waffle i ever had. Eggo wouldve been better. Other order was fd up also, they gave an extra side to make up for it, mostly everything went in the trash. Wasnt even crowded, looks like most food is already done dont know what took so long. Just terrible!
I hate when I order food and the order is not correct 😒 My Brother is sick and my mom said take him Plain Bake Chicken and Plain rice 😑 I dropped it off to my brother in hopes that it made him feel better (hasnt ate in a week) called him this morning only to find out he couldnt eat it they had put Gravy on everything..I said NO GRAVY
She made me a fresh batch of liver n onions(dietary restrictions) that were soooo good I forgot I wasnt at my grandmas house. Mac n cheese Oh Yeah(*_*). Candied yams, collard greens, black eyed peas. All sides are made without meat and I appreciate that. Corned beef and cabbage a little bland but was appreciated by those with high blood pressure. Perch looked great (wasnt mine). Fried chicken smelled and also looked wonderful. Plenty people there for the chicken if that says anything.
Ive been here many times before, but I will never return. Yesterday I took my family, the staff was extremely overwhelmed and rude right from the beginning but because this is sometimes the norm, we ignored it thinking at least the food would be good, WRONG! The food was horrible the genes tasted like dish soap. The banana pudding was spoiledI witnessed several different people from other tables take their food back and request money back or different entrees. What finally nailed it for me was when a waitress rudely told one of the customers. Cant you see Im busy?
First time here an i had catfish fillets mac n cheese potato salad cornbread an a Pepsi. Food was seasoned well too nice and hot. I enjoyed it. Did i mention im from Louisiana an u should kno they have the best soul food. My boyfriend had baked chicken mac n cheese cornbread dressing an black eye peas. He said everything was really good. But that cornbread dressing was awful. I cant explain that taste ugh. Prices werent that bad but i dont think Ill eat here again.
The salmon patties were good and not dry. The dressing with gravy and cranberry was yummy. My greens with tomato and onions were amazing. My potato salad was decent. OMG, the catfish was amazing😍. My rice pudding hit home to my stomache ( I had to eat before my meal - enough cinnamon and sugar- delish 😊.The lemonade was a sweet treat to wash down my meal with my warm cornbread muffin covered in butter ( okay, I slathered it up with the little butter provided.Overall YUMMY! I like the new location..see you again soon...Oh and service was fast for my dine in and carry out order. You cant go wr😊ng...Yummy!!!
Im an introvert and rarely leave comments but for this, Ill make an exception! The guy who greeted me and took my order was nice... However I asked for short ribs and they were out...moved on to oxtails...out...then decided to try an item from the menu of the day (the Salisbury steak)...was told, theyre out of that too but the meatloaf was basically the same thing 😒. So anyway, ordered the meatloaf meal, and two chicken meals (with a side of yams and Mac n cheese) -gave my name for the order. Passed time in the semi empty dining area while I waited for my food. Some time passed when my order-taker walked to me to say my foods ready and my name was called (I heard nothing- despite the place being practically empty). I go to pay for my food, while approaching the counter, a younger girl asks if Id already paid, I replied no, and in such a dry, lifeless, and dgaf manner, she said I need to pay for the food first (gee, thanks captain obvious). I continue to walk toward the older woman at the register and without greeting or much of acknowledgement, she utters, ticket (same dry tone as younger girl). I hand her my ticket, she tells me my total, I hand her my money, she hands back my change. I then WAIT.I wait to see whos going to hand my bag of food to me. Older checkout woman begins to dish up food for the next customer. Confused, I spot the greeter and asked him to grab my food. He then called for the older cashier woman to hand my food to me. Without an apology or word of any sort, the chick simply hands over the bag (as if I were the nuisance). I naturally snatch it, and as Im leaving, I hear her mumble a count-down under her breath (as Id to calm her nerves)..SIGH!! So much to elaborate on. Anyway the food was mediocre (chicken dry - like their attitude and skin... Mac n cheese and yams sucked as well. Inconsistent taste from the time my husband purchased food here)
Awesome experience always.... this is soul food at its best, from the koolaid to the very hard pick of side dishes for my veggie plate (I always get a fourth side dish) to the sweet potato pie Angie makes still to date. You havent experienced soul food until youve been here.
The man working the counter was very nice. Which is why I give the 3 stars but I thought the food could of been much better back of my throat is burned from the smokey greens is way overwhelming I know not everyone’s pallete is the same but it was too much for me. God bless
I will NEVER go there again. The service is terrible and they are very slow. Today the guy didnt put the stuffing in my Cornish hens. They wanted me to come all the way back and then pay to get the stuffing. I told the guy I wanted Cornish hens with stuffing and I ASk him how many sides comes with it and he TOLD me two. It was their fault and they want me to pay. On top of that the food was lazy. The Mac and cheese wasnt all the way cooked. I will NEVER go again.
The employees are not the most sanitary and lack basic customer service and culinary training. The level of ignorance displayed by the women working the front line of the restaurant is mind blowing. Dont expect to be welcomed to the establishment, do not expect anyone to ask if they can help you, do not expect a menu, do not expect a smile, do not expect a thank you, and definitely DO NOT expect expediency. Do expect rude, angry, and bitter employees that act as if they have done you a favor by showing up to work. And believe me that is the MOST that they have done... is showed up. I waited 45 minutes for a veggie plate and if you have been to the restaurant you know that the vegetables are precooked and sitting on the line. It took these geniuses 15 minutes to put a piece of paper and a dry Jiffy mix muffin into a styrofoam container. And they have the audacity to expect and all but demand a tip. My tip to you is fire every single frontline worker you have and hire someone that knows how to smile. Dont treat your customers as if they are bothering you and think that they are going to reward you by giving you their hard earned money, because most of us do not get to keep our jobs when we treat the people we serve as you do.
Food is excellent but the customer service needs drastic improvement. They rarely answer their phone and when they do they are often rude and very short with the customer. Ive ordered food from there via Uber Eats and GrubHub and they have messed up my order a few times. When I called to rectify it, either they dont answer the phone, or they claim they ran out of whatever it is I ordered, so they substituted with something else and didnt get my consent. Even walking in and ordering food can be problematic. They will ignore you when you walk up to the counter (even if there is a person there to take your order) and when they do finally acknowledge you, its with a frown and a snippy attitude. THEN YOU WAIT FOR ANOTHER TWENTY MINUTES as they put your order together. The reason I continue to patronize this restaurant is because the food is so good but the customer service is TERRIBLE! If you can see past that then you will be fine. Otherwise go somewhere else.
Staff has a little attitude (maybe they didnt want to work that day, I dont know). The speed of getting your food is incredibly slow. There were two customers before me and it took 20minutes for me to get my food. I didnt order anything special, just what I saw in front of me.But overall The food was Great!!!
Coming from the Clinic the other and thought I would stop n say hello to Angie coz Ive known her for a million years. She wasnt there ,but i hadnt eaten all day and back when she was at the Carnegie hotel I would get 2 chicken breasts, greens, mashed potatoes and love it,so I got the same thing. Not as good, too much salt and the price? $18.80. Lotta money,I thought and someone else agreed with me. So,Angie I still love ya,but I cant afford you.
I try to support local businesses instead of going to the chain restaurants. I tried this place several times and each time I feel like Im eating two day old left overs. I ordered smothered chicken and rice and I got three wings in gravy. I should have at least gotten a thigh or breast. Kool-aid good. To pricey for left overs and macaroni tasted old.
1st... called multiple times nobody picked up...Then when I arrived they still didn’t answer the phone. The corn muffin seemed old (like when you make cornbread put it in the fridge and then just cut it without it being reheated) liver tasted like it was reheated Then gravy was thrown on top... the macaroni had no taste.. THE CABBAGE WAS GREAT
Some of the food was just okay. There were 8 of us. Poor service. Seemed agitated that we didnt know right away what we wanted. Though the food was all cooked half if our group waited a long time (while people came and went). Some of the orders were two g. Three ordered smothered chicken. The first one (finally) brought was smothered chicken wings. She tried ecplaining she ordered chicken, not wings andhe made out like that was what she ordered. So we thought maybe they left the word wingsoff the board.until the other orders finally came with chicken breasts! The corn muffins were very dry. Dont waste your time going here!AND I paid as my h for just 3 veggie sides as if I had an entree. I cant eat meat. The sides were not bigger to make up for no meat. I would think for that price Id get 4 sides.
When you walk in you will say its ok. When yo actually see the food you will want to get three or more different meals. I got the sea perch and the liver and onions. The perch was delicious, tasted a piece the liver and it was also delicious.I recommend the yams and cabbage as sides.
It was actually too crowded I had an hour-and-a-half wait for my food I like it the part that a lot of people wasnt there but the fact that I had to wait so long that letting me know that their food was good but they needed a better system to take people orders and to get the food out faster but cooked very well done I want my food done so dont put it out too fast but safe

2022-01-11Delicious!!!!It was a wonderful experience to visit a restaurant that specializes in down home Southern foods here. We did not know what to expect, but the staff was patient (as we tried to figure out what we wanted from the menu), helpful( offered recommendations and a small sample of an item), entertaining(they were funny and very engaging) and part of the reason to visit again. The original owner is a Southern woman from SC.The place had a constant stream of customers. There was plenty of room for social distancing. Everyone did carryout. The restaurant is no cash transactions.

2022-04-07Great food. Warm environment. Parking lot is brutal, but any experienced Clevelander can navigate pot holes. Food stayed warm and was delectable when I got home. Chicken was juicy and crispy all in the same bite. Definitely a Must for anyone looking for great local food

2021-08-23Round 1, July 2021: Stopped by to get a 3 wing snack pack, some Mac n cheese, and some sweet potato pie to go. Everything tasted good and I will return. The only caveat, and it is a minor one, is that it is a 100% cashless business. Many times, I dont want to use my credit card or debit card for purchases.Round 2, August 2021: ordered the chicken wing dinner this time. Got 5 whole wings that were fried crispy like my grandma used to. My two sides were the macaroni and cheese along with the cabbage. Everything tasted good and was reasonably priced. The chicken couldve used more pronounced seasoning (perhaps a pinch more of seasoned salt), but was alright after applying hot sauce. The texture was just right crispy on the outside and juicy meat on the inside.Pros:* Clean restaurant with recently re-opened indoor seating area for patrons.* Simplistic menu with prices listed. Any deviations or special rules are posted.* Good food* Plentiful parking* Sturdy food packaging. They used microwave safe containers which do not buckle, bend, and leak like the styrofoam containers.* Counter for ordering is separate from the window used to pick up. No need to ask have you ordered yet? Or Are you in line? 👍🏽Cons:* Not all the food is made to order. It would be somewhat nice to see the food.* The patrons need to check and verify their food prior to leaving the store as indicated on the signs. I get why they have that rule, but...

2022-01-11Sorry I ate my fries already lol . I’ve been eating here since moving to Cleveland for college (4 years ) and this place has stayed consistent. This isn’t your regular restaurant food , you can taste the homemade deliciousness !

2022-04-04I drove from Lyndhurst here, thinking the food would be good. This is nothing more than a hole in the wall with loud and ignorant workers. The guy at the front was begging for tips, but is serving garbage food that barely can be eaten. The mac and cheese is disgusting and the chicken is hard and old.

2021-05-29Truly excellent soul food. I went out of my way to try Angies and was not disappointed. The staff is friendly and makes everything fresh, from scratch. Catfish was crisp, smothered chicken was tender. Sides were also very good: sweet yams were excellent, black eyed peas were perfectly cooked. I snagged the last peice of sweet potato pie, and it was among the best I have ever had. This is a family run small business that somehow survived the pandemic. But after tasting their food, I am not really surprised. Definitely worth a try!

2022-04-28Visiting and found this on a search. Food was good and service friendly. Had fried catfish and chicken, baked Mac and cheese (OMG), rice gravy and black-eyed peas. I prefer my fish fried lightly. I didn’t think to ask because I assumed that’s how it would come. My bad or theirs??? I don’t know but Other than that it was great!!! This will be added to our rotation when we come to Cleveland.

2022-05-20The decor and inside of this place is awesome. The owner did wonderful things here, and the food was good. I could not believe how nice it was, from the old Sisters Chicken it once was. Angie, you did a GREAT JOB at this location and I wish you much more success here!!!

2022-02-26Ordered through UberEATS and the food arrived hot and delicious. I had fried pork chops, mac n cheese, greens and corn bread. I will definitely order again. My dinner companion had yams with her dinner and she was extremely satisfied as well. Our only regret was that we didnt order dessert 😉
