Great place to give blood. Since its a permanent Red Cross station, everything is all set up and its more reliable and consistent than temporary stations. Nice atmosphere and good staff. They always have availability for power red donation which I like.

Ive been donating platelets and other blood products here for a few years already. The staff is always courteous and friendly. Donating weekly during the pandemic.

This was my second attempt in three months to donate plasma after dozens of pleas from the home office. The two visits were nearly the same. There was no greeting upon arrival, nor friendliness. This visit, when I first walked in the door people were standing around, then all walked away, and no one spoke to me or looked at me. Then I heard someone yelling, and looked up to see a person in uniform seated at a counter, about thirty feet away. She continued to yell, but I couldnt make out what she was saying. So I approached her. She then told me to sign in, so I did. Then an angry looking staff took my temperature, and told me to go through a nearby door. No words were said otherwise. When I went to the desk, no one greeted me, still, and after two minutes of watching five staff moving about, one came near the desk and asked if I had a RapidPass. I said no. Then she shoved a stack of plastic wrapped papers at me, and walked away past me. No instructions.I saw these papers looked like the info located in the RapidPass, so I put them back on the desk and decided to fill out the RapidPass on the app while I was waiting. I finished it, and waited a bit more, and then was asked for my RapidPass. No smiles, nor friendliness, and when I asked a question, out of my ignorance, I was given a sharp answer as if I should have known the answer. Finally checked in, I was taken to a little room. The first question, no eye contact, was, Just why do you want to donate? I answered that I had recently received many phone, text, and email requests from the Red Cross. Then, What other reasons are you here? I said thats it. Youre sure? I said I didnt know what else she wanted me to say. Then she said she had to check my arms for the ability to donate. Oh, dear, she said she couldnt find one on the left. Then called another nurse to check, and she said she couldnt either. I told them Ive had IVs in that arm before. But the needle for platelets would just go right through and perforate. (What?)They then accused me of not drinking enough fluids. I told the nurse I drank at least 88oz , 60 of which were water. She said that only water counts in hydration. (What?)Then the second nurse said I had a red spot near the place where they possibly could have a needle in my right arm. You have a sore or an acne. We cant scrub over that. I looked very closely and had difficulty seeing a pale pink birthmark, small as a pinhead. I said, it is neither macular or papular (this means flat and not blistered), and it was only a pale pinkish spot. Now the first nurse asked,You do know how big the needles are? Theyre way bigger than the ones used for red blood. Theyre REALLY large diameters. Then the second one said, We do have a machine that uses only one arm. You wouldnt want that? I said, sure I would. She replied, Oh, wait. I just remembered, the machine is dirty. Then the first one said, How about power red? Youre 53. I replied that I had read the limit was 55. She said, then you can sign up do donate whole blood. I told her I had just done so three weeks earlier, and she replied, You cant donate! as if I had insisted. There were only two other donors there to my knowledge, on a major football weekend. I deduced the staff were dissuading me for their own reasons. The atmosphere felt almost hostile. It was certainly not friendly, nor did anyone think me for trying to donate.I would not recommend this facility, on weekends at least, after two unpleasant encounters such as these. If the Red Cross has such a need, the managers would be well-advised to welcome donors and be more friendly. (Like Trader Joes. )

If you are deaf or have any type of disability do NOT donate blood here. These people will turn you away for being deaf even though you have an American Red Cross Donar Card and have donated in another state multiple times while being deaf. The most recent being 90 days ago. Last time I checked being deaf can NOT be transmitted through blood but apparently these people think so.I had already did my Rapid Pass Questionnaire Online but these folks dont give you a chance to explain.... They say NO and thats it. They do NOT want to be inconvenienced or bothered apparently... If thats the case then they are in the wrong line of work.DISCRIMINATION AT ITS FINEST!!

I am a regular platelet donor at the Warzel Center. Everyone here is so nice and thankful for the donors. The need for whole blood and platelets is constant. If you can, you should consider becoming a donor.

I donate platelets here usually every other Sunday morning. The men and women who work here are good at what they do, and they make the experience literally and figuratively pain free. There are about 9 beds for donating platelets, plus about a half dozen for regular (whole blood) donations, and your choice of snacks and drinks for recuperating when youre done.
