Convenient downtown location for blood donation, platelet donation, and volunteering. Ample free parking. Just a few easy blocks from the Innerbelt. Great staff too.

Disaster Services are still under restricted hours due to COVID-19. Blood Services are still doing appointments for blood donation.

I came here to renew my 1st Aid & CPR. Not crazy about the neighborhood, but the building is well-laid out. I didnt REALLY wanna be alone in the bathroom. Particularly the downstairs bathroom. I felt safer in the upstairs bathroom right outside of my classroom. The instructor was succinct and, I felt, taught a good class. While I was there, I asked if they were able to help a friend of mine. Shed just been in a fire, day before Thanksgiving, and it had taken her son. Strangely enough, I can see she posted a positive review here, so she must have come to them.Im glad she was guided to the help she needed.I donate blood when I can. You should, too. Even if you cant afford a monetary donation, blood donation just takes a little time & energy.Give if you can. ❣

The treatment of donors varies from location to location. At sone I enjoyed the experience, and at others felt intimidated, or unwelcome. Knowing this inconsistency, I have mainly gone to the gentlest. But this past week, as in October, I received many requests to donate platelets. Since it was the Browns playing the Steelers, and Im not a fan, I thought this would be the ideal day to donate. In fact, itwas my second attempt in three months to donate plasma after dozens of pleas from the home office. The two visits were nearly the same. There was no greeting upon arrival, nor friendliness. This visit, when I first walked in the door people were standing around, then all walked away, and no one spoke to me or looked at me. Then I heard someone yelling, and looked up to see a person in uniform seated at a counter, about thirty feet away. She continued to yell, but I couldnt make out what she was saying. So I approached her. She then told me to sign in, so I did. Then an angry looking staff took my temperature, and told me to go through a nearby door. No words were said otherwise. When I went to the desk, no one greeted me, still, and after two minutes of watching five staff moving about, one came near the desk and asked if I had a RapidPass. I said no. Then she shoved a stack of plastic wrapped papers at me, and walked away past me. No instructions.I saw these papers looked like the info located in the RapidPass, so I put them back on the desk and decided to fill out the RapidPass on the app while I was waiting. I finished it, and waited a bit more, and then was asked for my RapidPass. No smiles, nor friendliness, and when I asked a question, out of my ignorance, I was given a sharp answer as if I should have known the answer. Finally checked in, I was taken to a little room. The first question, no eye contact, was, Just why do you want to donate? I answered that I had recently received many phone, text, and email requests from the Red Cross. Then, What other reasons are you here? I said thats it. Youre sure? I said I didnt know what else she wanted me to say. Then she said she had to check my arms for the ability to donate. Oh, dear, she said she couldnt find one on the left. Then called another nurse to check, and she said she couldnt either. I told them Ive had IVs in that arm before. But the needle for platelets would just go right through and perforate. (What?)They then accused me of not drinking enough fluids. I told the nurse I drank at least 88oz , 60 of which were water. She said that only water counts in hydration. (What?)Then the second nurse said I had a red spot near the place where they possibly could have a needle in my right arm. You have a sore or an acne. We cant scrub over that. I looked very closely and had difficulty seeing a pale pink birthmark, small as a pinhead. I said, it is neither macular or papular (this means flat and not blistered), and it was only a pale pinkish spot. Now the first nurse asked,You do know how big the needles are? Theyre way bigger than the ones used for red blood. Theyre REALLY large diameters. Then the second one said, We do have a machine that uses only one arm. You wouldnt want that? I said, sure I would. She replied, Oh, wait. I just remembered, the machine is dirty. Then the first one said, How about power red? Youre 53. I replied that I had read the limit was 55. She said, then you can sign up do donate whole blood. I told her I had just done so three weeks earlier, and she replied, You cant donate! as if I had insisted. There were only two other donors there to my knowledge, on a major football weekend. I deduced the staff were dissuading me for their own reasons. The atmosphere felt almost hostile. It was certainly not friendly, nor did anyone think me for trying to donate.I would not recommend this facility, on weekends at least, after two unpleasant encounters such as these. If the Red Cross has such a need, the managers would be well-advised to welcome donors and be more friendly. (Like Trader Joes. )

Staff at today’s blood donation appointment at Hillcrest Hospital were wonderful: dedicated, hardworking, and efficient! Thank you for a great experience.

I came to the Red Cross to pick up some documents that I needed. The people at the information desk were pleasant and helpful. My apt caught fire on Thanksgiving morning and I lost my son in the fire. They were very helpful and concerned. I am thankful they were there to help me in my time of need.

I was a very nervous first time donor yesterday. I would like to thank Dritan Xhindoli for his excellent customer service. He made my experience very pleasant. Actually, he made my day. Thank you from the AJC building.

Not a complaint against this location but the Redcross Blood Drive (bus) at the Lakewood YMCA. The employees working the bus are incredibly rude! First I enter the bus and get told loudly and sternly that I entered through the wrong door (I entered through the front door of the bus god forbid!) and that I needed to use the back entrance (not a single sign outside the bus stating to do so). Then no one speaks or addresses me for many minutes and eventually I bring up that I have an appointment and they state that I should have said that as I walked in (isn’t that your job to ask me?) and now they won’t be able to see me for 45-60 minutes which I can wait that long due to another engagement. So now I was unable to donate when there is a national shortage due to the Redcrosses rude and arrogant employees. Please teach your employees some basic customer service skills.
