My mother had a 21 day visit at Altercare in Hilliard! She arrived around June 21 and was suppose to leave July 14 the but left the 17th! She was to have therapy on her fractured knee. The therapy staff did an excellenr job and deserve 5 stars, the caringnstaff deserve 0 stars, they are very incompetent! The entire time the biggest problem they had was answering call buttons! They took way too long to help people to the bathroom, and if they had an accident it took even longer to get changed! Plenty of stories I can tell about the service and treatment my mother received as well as the other patients! They say they have enough help but what I saw every evening between 4-7 pm, was not enough help! The big guy came out of the front plenty of nights to chip in! My mother used a walker that got stuck every 5 or 6 steps, and tripped her up! When told about the walker they said it was all they had! On the 14th of July 5 hours before my mother was due to walk out, she turned on her call button, after no one came she went to the bathroom and fell, most likely thrown by that walker! They told her her ribs were bruised and made her get up and down for all meals and the bathroom! She cried those three days a lot! When she went to her Dr. the 17th, he admitted her to the hospital with 4 broken ribs two of which were broke twice! You should have alarms on your beds so you know when your patients are out of bed! You should answer the call buttons you have a lot of elderly there! Stop ignoring your patients and do your jobs!
About a year ago I stayed for my recovery after major surgery. The staff was great, and when insurance tried to send me home. Kevin and his team fought for me and I was able to stay an extra week. If I ever need to have surgery again and need a place to recover I would definitely come back.
Im a former employee. I just want to say the most of the department heads and staff are great. Admissions, D.O.N,A.D.O.N, Therapy, Kitchen, activities, and was housekeeping until they left because of the administrator. Now, I dont know all of the details, Im just saying. The former supervisor of housekeeping was amazing and filled roles that wasnt even their job to do. They just happened to get ran out by their superior.I will say for the most part, working there was decent. Most of the staff got along great. Made some friends along the way. Left on a very bad decision by Tammy, but thats over and done with now.As far as sending family there, it has it days. Aids are very understaffed and they do have to rely on agency aids often. The actual aids of Hilliard altercare are pretty good. The agency though, not so much. There are some awesome residents there though that would gladly make new friends with any family member.GOOD LUCK ON WEEKENDS. The weekend manager on duty seems to rarely be there. Kind of funny the D.O.N writes a review on here to help the numbers balance out, causing a conflict of interest. She NEVER shows up for weekend manager duty and says, im available from home if needed. UMMM IT DOESNT WORK THAT WAY! That is SO unprofessional. And then the very next day the administrator was manager on duty and she didnt show up! Causing a door to get broken. That is lazy at its finest. DO YOUR JOB!Thank you Altercare of Hilliard for my opportunity and growth, unfortunately it has come to an end due to a bad decision.
I was an STNA there for a few months and it’s a horrible place. They are so short staffed. The pay is low, which contributes to people not wanting to work there. They didn’t even have walkie talkies for the nurses or aides. I told the administrator the day after my first day of training that I didn’t like that they didn’t have walkie talkies or pagers. I told him that as an aide, if a resident falls, I can’t leave him or move him until the nurse evaluates him, but if I don’t have any way of contacting the nurse and I’m alone with the resident, what am I supposed to do? He said that was a very good question and said he would try to get walkie talkies. Later he told me he was getting walkie talkies, but I worked there for a couple more months and they never got any. I was only contingent so I I worked two days a week, but I hated it. I think most of the aides used the hoyer lift by themselves, which you are NOT supposed to do, but I know they did it. I found a better place to work.
We put my sister in Altrercare of HIlliard after she had a stroke and craniotomy. Her care was ok at first but the longer we stayed the worse it got. There are good staff members trying their best but hampered by poor staffing policies and some poorly trained staff. 45 minutes to an hour to get off a bed pan was not uncommon. That is enough said right there even though I could go on. Neglect is the word that comes to mind when i think of the time my sister spent in this facility. Please, do not put a loved one in this facility, they deserve better.
I have been a patient 14 times at Alter Care of Hilliard. My overall experience has been fantastic. I mainly come for the physical therapy and I could not ask for a better facility. I go out of network to be able to come to this facility which means it cost me out of pocket but it is well worth the cost. Turnover is rare at this facility as far as nursing and physical therapy staff are concerned and that is unheard of at a lot of facilities. If I couldnt come to this facility I would not go to another facility. I do know somewhat what to look for because Iam retired from the Ohio Department of Health the Division that surveys health care facilities for Medicare/Medicaid guidelines compliance. I highly recommend this facility to anyone who needs special care after a hospital stay or just some extra care in general. They are the best as far as Im concerned!!
I was in the hospital for a month and a half and then a month and a half at Altercare. I have been home for a week. I was treated with dignity and respect by all. From the aids to the nurses to the physical therapists I would not be where I am today without the Altercare team. I would recommend Altercare to everybody in need.
Similar to a lot of the other stories on this review page- my Grandmother was in here for a week, after a hospital visit from a fall and was admitted straight from the nursing home back into the hospital, only this time into ICU! In worse condition than shed went into the home in! Ridden with infection from lack of care. Im truly convinced if we had not gotten her out of there- after a few more days she wouldnt have been with us. This place is a mess. The run around and the sweet talking that management tries to pass as concern for the patients, is just that- talk. There were a very select few who did truly seemed to care, and I feel terrible for them, but all in all- it seemed it was just about keeping beds full and getting the money. I know this type of thing can happen anywhere, but it wont be happening to our family again here, and I advise you to do the same and look elsewhere.
My mother was a resident here for just a couple weeks. I was promised the moon all i got was poor care and a mother who ended up in the hospital with a brusied face from a fall only god knows how long she layed on the floor. If i could post pictures i would. This place never cleaned my moms room didnt bathe her until i threw a fit. I had to clean her room give her bed baths etc... call lights are not answered. The nurse who was taking care of my mother one night couldnt even tell me what meds he was putting in my moms feeding tube. Which was also the same nurse who was taking care of my mom the night she fell and he didnt even know she fell. I walked in to find my mom alone in her room after they called me and told me she fell 5 minutes ago. What they meant to say after seeing her face was they found her 5 mins ago.. DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONE HERE THE LEVEL OF NEGLECT IS BEYOND WHAT YOU CAN IMAGINE! ... UPDATE MY MOTHER ENDED UP PASSING AWAY FROM THIS INCIDENT.
This place cost me valuable time with my dying brother. I had to constantly be after them to give his pain medication.. I would go visit him and spend my time cleaning his room. I had bought him several mugs at 18.89 and 12.99 just to have them come up missing. I had to run Hospice ragged to come there because his bandages were not being changed. I am going to seriously consider speaking to an attorney. I have videos of his room and condition
THE EPITOME OF PROFESSIONAL CARE & GENUINE CONCERNThat is the best description of my stay at Altercare of Hilliard. The entire staff, cleaning staff, kitchen staff, aides, nurses & especially the THERAPY STAFF, were all wonderful.I am grateful to each one and everyone one for the care and smiles that I received.I hated to leave!!!Thank you! GH
I agree with the previous review housekeeping never cleaning the room trash is never done last time I had to do it myself when I went to visit my granma because she kept complaining about it ..She called me and also mentioned that she didnt get the same amount of IV antibiotic that she usually get everyday ,so I tried to contact the facility and ask but the person who answered said well I can tell you anything about that I am not her nurse , I was like well can you have her nurse call me or do you know how I can reach her . She was like idk all I can do is pass the message along. I am a nurse as well and I know for a fact this is not the kind of answer I will give someone who got their love ones at your facility. So tomorrow when I came to get her for her apt I will make sure that this gets resolved.
Do not take your love one to this place, they put them in the bed and forget about them.My sister went to Altercare of Hilliard for rehab from a knee replacement and ended up 5 days later in the emergency room extremely confused, hallucinating; bed sores on her bottom, blisters that completely cover her hills, and so dehydrated they had to use ultrasound to get an IV started.

2020-12-30My brother was here and some of the staff was rude to him. They were very unprofessional. One of the nurses aides got an attitude with him and slammed his tray down only because he said he wasnt done with his food yet.My brother didnt trust another nurses aid because she also came off rude and off putting and constantly gave him an attitude. He didnt want her to give him a shower because he didnt feel comfortable with her and she got rude with him and asked him two different times Are you refusing my care? Like dude he told you the first time that he doesnt want you showering him so what is not clicking in her brain??? And he said yes because this aid was always getting rude with him every day. Of course he isnt going to trust you. This place needs to hire professional workers that know how to talk with the patients without belittling and patronizing them and be able to instill trust with the patients because no one is going to feel comfortable being here if they feel like they cant trust the nurses or nurses aids. This place is atrocious! Do not send your loved ones here.

2021-10-24They gave my dad wonderful care. He was reluctant to leave his home, if course. But he made friends, went on field trips, loved the staff - he was very happy there.

2019-02-11This place is terrible to work for. The administrator, Tammy Myers, IS THE WORST!!!! DO NOT work here until she leaves. Very good employees have left because of her. And she doesnt care about the residents, nor her staff at all. Shes there to work her 9-5 and have good numbers. She is so bad for morale. No staff member is even comfortable when she is there.Another thing, DO NOT send family to live here. The staffing for aids are horrible. They rely on agency aids and nurses who do not know the residents daily routines. Again, because of the poor administrator, no one wants to work there. This is why they dont have their own aids. Agency aids just want to come, do their 9-5 and leave. The residents have very few people who know their routines, what they like, dont like, needs, etc. It all starts at the top. Bad administrator leads to no regular aids and nurses to the residents not getting the proper care that they deserve. The physical training staff are great though!! They do very well with the residents. Very kind to them, treat them with respect, and actually care for the residents. Most other staff , aids and nurses mainly, do not care much for the residents. Half of them are on their cell phones or sitting at the end of the halls in the lounge chairs hiding from call lights or superiors.Overall, just avoid this place as best as possible. Do not work here and DO NOT send your loved ones here. Ive seen way too much from my time working here. And again, it all starts at the top. She is the WORST!

2019-02-13I wanted to share my experience as an employee at Altercare Hilliard. Firstly, I took this job because of many reasons. Primarily, I took this job because of the Administrator, Tammy Meyers. I had never met Tammy before and during my interview process, I learned of Tammys leadership skills, her ability to connect with her staff, Residents, and family members, and because of her passion of Long Term Care. I even heard of Tammys positive impact on her team from her former coworkers. Tammy leads a team of caring individuals who ensure our Residents are safe, happy, and healthy.Lastly, I would personally send my family member to Altercare Hilliard. Not only have I witnessed our staff positively impact the lives of our Residents, but Ive heard first hand from our Residents how happy they are here. As an employee and member of this community, I am proud to not only work for Altercare Hilliard, but Im proud to serve these wonderful Residents. Thank you, Tammy, Altercare Hilliard, and Altercare Corporate for your leadership and support!

2017-01-17I was at Altercare of Hilliard, following correction surgery for a fractured femur due to an auto accident in December 2015. The entire staff, including Kevin, the Director of Nursing, treated me like gold! I was in a lot of pain, and had to virtually learn to walk again. From the room, the food, the awesome nursing staff, and amazing physical therapy staff, I am now living pain free and have almost lost a limp that Ive had since my original accident. The facility is clean, friendly, and welcoming, and encourages success in a very caring and professional environment. I would highly recommend Altercare of Hilliard to anyone in need of short-term care. All the best to the staff and facility.Ken D, Columbus

2018-05-04My father died after one week at Altercare of Hilliard. His last words to me, which will haunt me for the rest of my life, were, They never come! I call and they never come! I need to try to sleep off this stress.”I gave him a couple of hours to sleep, then called his room. No answer. I called the nurses station. No answer. About an hour later, his nurse called. She said, ”I found him unresponsive. According to her, staff members and EMS tried to resuscitate him, though his autopsy did not note any signs of CPR.What do you want us to do with the body?” was the next question. I was not at home, so I told her Id have to call back in a little while. A few minutes later, another call from an administrator, What do you want us to do with the body??” I was on my way back home and told her Id have to call them back. The level of attention you receive once deceased is astonishing. In the days leading up to his death, he had complained to the staff about their unresponsiveness. It would take over an hour for a transfer from his wheel chair to his bed. He ended up developing an abrasion from sitting too long. Aides would apologize and say that they were fighting against frequent staff shortages. All of this falls at the feet of the administration. CEO Greg Colaner, I’m looking at you. Do better. My father died of a heart attack while under tremendous stress caused by an unresponsive staff. Please spare your family members from this facility. I wish I had.

2017-01-10My Mom was there just recently after her total knee replacement. After spending 16 years in the long term care industry the choice for my mom was simple. I had worked with altercare on a professional level for some time and had always been impressed with their customer service. So when the time came for my own mother I chose them.Sarah made our admissions process easy and my mom remarked on her kindness and compassion. Their social worker Nitisha was helpful and communicated with us throughout the whole process. Therapy worked my mom very hard. She especially enjoyed David in Physical Therapy and Jan in Occupational Therapy.

2017-08-02My mother was there for just a week. She is dealing with a brain tumor and has lost most of her movement and speech. Know that she cannot speak clearly the staff tried to get her to take meds that she didnt want not need. After my mother pushed away the cup with pills the nurses crushed up the pills and put them in her food. She spit the food out, again as she didnt want the pain meds. At that point the center called out to family and said someone needed to be there because she was punching and spitting at the employees and they were worried for their staff. (Really???) When I spoke with the head nurse regarding the incident she pulled multiple nurses from around her to speak about what happened earlier that day and continue to gossip right in front of me about my mother. I stood up for my mother and told them she didnt want the pain meds thats why she pushed it away then spit it out. After explaining that another nurse made a joke about how my mother was wearing her food this morning. I am very disappointed that the staff of a facility such as this, would treat patients and family of patients with such disrespect. If you care for your family send them else where...

2017-09-03By far one of the worse facilities I have worked at in the 8 years Ive been an aide. The nursing staff is overworked and not appreciated by management nor other coworkers. When state is called, corporate ALWAYS finds a way to get out of the complaint. Management does not help when we are short staffed but yet theyre letting over 50% of the scheduled staff for the shift call off. Residents sit in urine for 6+ hours because of lazy aides and when reported to management, there is no consequence. If its a body on the floor, management does not care how terrible or lazy they are. Ive walked off of the floor multiples times crying because I was unable to give the residents the care they need and deserve. So happy to no longer be employed there nor dealing with stress that comes along with working under the money hungry management! The only good thing going for this facility is the physical therapy and kitchen department. Other than that, I would NOT send my loved one to this facility if it was the last place on earth!
