If I could leave this restaurant 6 stars, I would! After another local establishment cancelled a reservation we had for a surprise engagement party, Alley Cat Oyster Bar was the only place that was willing to not only accommodate our large group, but go above and beyond with their service. They provided us with a private space of our own right on the river, and our server (whos name escapes us) was attentive and fast with her service. The food and cocktails were all excellent. Keep in mind this was all organized for us within 24 hours, on a summer weekend in Cleveland during pride! To say we are thankful, impressed, and so full of joy would be the understatement of the year! Thank you to the incredible managers and employees for making my best friends engagement perfect!
Birthday dinner for my wife, food was great and the view worth it on its own. Lobster roll was excellent, as was the walleye. Service fast, friendly. View to the west during sunset was perfect, right on the river with plenty to see. Parking in adjacent lot for $10 on a Friday night a bit steep, but worth it for the dinner and there was an attendant there the whole time which was nice. Looking forward to going back!
Hellooo!!! Visiting from miami beach we stopped by lunch after we saw the restaurant from the boat ride...We were one of the first tables to sit after three pm. We sat at the terrace. We had crab cake, calamari, soup, and southwestern corn. All these dishes were small and tasty. Our server got lost a few times. I thought it was packed inside. Then I found out that it was empty (-*1).Hope yall doing good!!!
Attended a talk upstairs. Food was quite tasty. I started off my evening with a small glass of a 2020 German Riesling. I was served a modified Caesar salad after inquiring about gluten free options from the set menu. Their Caesar dressing is delicious - lemon is the not so secret twist. I paired the salad with a little sip of Chardonnay. I asked our server to surprise me with a main dish. He delivered a medium rare steak served on the vegetarian chirashi bowl… it was right up my alley. He paired it with a Willamette Valley Pinot noir. The wine also went well with the flourless chocolate cake I snagged for dessert.PS. The talk lasted for several hours and I am pleased to report that I suffered no ill effects… aka the food was Celiac safe
I went here with a group of seven and the food here was just phenomenal. We got three different appetizers all of which I loved (fried calamari, Nashville hot shrimp, and the artisan bread plate) and then my main meal which was the mac and cheese with shrimp was delicious. Not to mention the views of the river in lake Erie, even in the winter time, add to the experience and is wonderful to look out onto, more so in the summer and spring Im sure. The only ding I have is that the food is a little expensive and the service was a bit slow, but overall the food was definitely worth it!
Best fried calamari Ive gotten anywhere, super tasty but the portion was small for the price. $10 Parking lot ehh not their fault, our waiter was awful - my aunt and dad were having trouble pulling the menu up on their phones and requested an actual menu, he said they dont do that anymore but 5 mins later a white, elderly couple sat down and he handed them both menus. When my dad asked about it he said well they dont have smartphones okay buddy- it was super uncomfortable.
We’ve been here twice. The first time, we had no idea what it was, but there was an amazing band playing, so I had the best mojito of my life while looking out on the river from the rooftop bar. The second time, we sat at the bar downstairs. Both times, the bartenders were attentive, friendly, and gave us great recommendations. The oysters are top notch, but the atmosphere is what really makes this place stand out. It’s now a must when we’re in Cleveland.
The food is good, is not exceptional. The oysters are good for a good price. The service is bad.We came at 5:30 pm and asked for a table close to the window. They said they have a reservation at 6pm. They gave us another table. We stayed there until 6:15 and the tables close to the window where free. No one showed up.The happy hour menu showed beers in happy hour. When we asked for the beers they said they dont have that option. They need to update the menu.
Everything was AMAZING!! From the ever so kind servers to the food. I had the best clam chowder EVERRR!! Every dish was seasoned and cooked to perfection. Best birthday meal yet. Cant wait to return. Prices were reasonable too. Also, I have a food allergy the chef and our server (Michael)were very careful in making food changes for me. You guys rock!!
Dinner yesterday was a total disaster both food and service were truly bad. It started with food runners not having a clue what dishes they were bringing. 3 plates were wrong orders. Wrong salad, wrong fish on 2 plates. We got grouper instead of halibut. We asked our waiter to check with the kitchen, he came back assuring us it was halibut. We asked for manager who said he will make things right. We sent one plate back asking for a real halibut. I decided to eat the grouper. It went worst from there, one pice of fish was smelly and far from fresh, when real halibut arrived it was raw inside ( my friend asked for well done) we sent the fish back again to be cooked, needless to say it took forever to finally eat. I used to recommend this place to everyone, sadly it will not happen again. Second star for the view.
The website states Happy Hour 3-6 M-F where it has its hours listed on the bottom. When I went at 4pm on a Friday and asked the bartender about the happy hour they mumbled something about happy hour only being on weekdays. What was strange is that I could find the happy hour menu online earlier today, but when I opened their menu QR code the happy hour menu was nowhere to be found and I could no longer locate it on their website. Strangely, the happy hour time was still listed at the bottom of the website. If they no longer offer a happy hour on Fridays they need to update their website. It was a bit deceptive.
We’ve been here before for dinner and it was delicious! We were very excited to come back again for another great experience………Our water glasses had mold in them. We ordered the crab cake appetizer and 3 bites had multiple pieces of shell in them. Our dinner order was a Caesar salad with salmon & lobster/ shrimp Mac and cheese. Let’s start with the salad: the salmon was so overcooked that the skin wouldn’t come off of the salmon. Half of the lettuce was brown and soggy. I understand it’s a seafood restaurant but they would not cook a piece of chicken and add it to the salad. Chicken was a lunch item only. Complete BS. The lobster Mac was by far the worst. 0 pieces of lobster & 0 pieces of shrimp. It was all noodles and sauce, and the sauce smelled like rotten seafood. We LOVE seafood! I’ve never had a bad experience here in the past and we were VERY DISAPPOINTED.One of the worst meals that I have ever had and this deserved a review to warn other customers.
This place was absolutely phenomenal. We had amazing drinks and the appetizers were out of this world. Max was our server and did a great job. I got the octopus in my wife got the yellow fin tuna. Talk about a flavor explosion. We would absolutely recommend and we will definitely be back. Thanks again for making a knock out first impression.
How can you not talk to the chef when the food is super delicious & packed with flavor . Thank you chef Julian for the amazing food.Alley Cat is a by far one of the best sea food places in the country. Crab cake was cooked to perfection, very moist inside, the salad is really good, haven’t had such good salad in long time.Lobster roll is another gem from the kitchen, fresh lobster, the seasoning is lip smacking , absolutely worth every penny of $27 .Sword fish is super juicy inside, nicely charred outside, mushroom & other veggies are nice, the puree is super nice.Temp check, paperless menu , tables separated well over 6ft, all the COVID rules have been followed. Felt very safe. Outside dining on the river side was fantastic.Last but not the least, our server , Alina is fantabulous , she is very attentive , answered all our questions, made recommendations, absolutely love the service. And a bonus, she is very beautiful even with a mask on 😍😁.Thank you to the whole team for pleasant visit during these hard times.Highly recommend .
Couldn’t have asked for anything more.Contacted the restaurant for a reservation and informed them of my intention to propose during our dinner. The restaurant was fantastic. Everyone involved from the hostess, our waitress, The chef, the managers went way beyond expectations. We placed our drink and appetizer order. The cocktail menu was great with many options and the oysters we ordered, oh my. This is when the spectacular started to show through. Our waitress came to the table and set a seafood tower (compliments of the Chef). Included were cocktail shrimp, peal and eat, deviled eggs, smoked fish dip, oysters and octopus. This alone was a tremendous addition to the evening. It gets betterOur entrees were exceptional. Lobster roll and a wonderfully prepared sea bass.Next, one of the managers arrived, congratulating us and offering a lovely board filled with desserts. Cheese cake, to die for, key lime pie, mango and passion fruit sorbet. To finish the evening, we were gifted a lovely bottle of Champaign which included a hand written note from the staff and mamagement of the restaurant thanking us for choosing them to celebrate of engagement. If that wasn’t enough, another of the managers took his time to take photos for us on their upstairs patio. If I could give more than 5 stars I would.
If you enjoy a proper dining experience then this is the place for you. Have a seat at the bar say high to Shane and let Q shuck you some blues. I have told everyone I know about this gem on the river. If it was possible to strictly live off of oysters I would be a fixture in this place. I Have also had the whole black bass. you can go to any restaurant in Vegas and you would not find fish and oysters more fresh. Make sure you try the oyster shooter as well, it’s a blue point oyster in a shot glass with cocktail sauce and citrus vodka (it really elevates the experience). Finally I want to say thanks to the GM Casey O’rurke and I’ll be waiting to join that oyster club. A solid 10 out of ten for me. See u guys next week!
You cant go wrong with any of Zach Bruells restaurants. Alley Cat happens to be one of my favorites and Id say this was probably our fifth time coming here. The staff are always knowledgeable, professional and cordial. The food is exquisite! We came here for oysters, fried calamari and a couple of pints. I would highly recommend Alley Cat Oyster Bar & also LAlbatros.
Great location! The food is good but not fantastic (I do not recommend the lobster roll, unless youve never been to Maine; and why would you put a ton of cilantro on top of a poke bowl?), but the main reason I do not give a better review is because of the drinks: the signature cocktails are bland, over sugary, and over priced
Nice atmosphere and I really like the seating outside on top. Great view of the river and the flats. Oysters were really good so was the lobster roll. Took off a star for the cheesecake which tasted like a no-bake and Ive never seen one cone-shaped before... Also four different people waited on us seems disorganized. Overall good place definitely recommend just dont get the cheesecake :-)
Views are great! They have happy hour everyday 3-6. Ordered the sea bass. Fish was great, the potatoes were undercooked. A little overpriced. Not a ton of gluten friendly options --nothing on the menu was labeled for ford allergies. Parking is a nightmare. Lot parking is $10 even on a random Monday evening.
So I was given a gift certificate for any of Zacks restaurants. So its our anniversary and we went to alley Cat. Great view of the river, and boats, and activity. Reviews stated service and staff werent the best , which proved to be true. I guess the way wait staff are now days is to be unfriendly and cold. I guess its not popular to smile. Anyway, the menu ranges from upscale bar type food to lobster for $70. We had calamari which was delicious but ask for more sauce. I had the steak and substituted cream corn for broccoli rabe and subbed coleslaw for potatoes. Corn was sweet and flavorful. My hub had pickled veggies, they were fun.and the chilli braised beef. He loved it. We wanted to order some wine but our waiter disappeared. We ordered the chocolate caramel cake. A must!!!! Salty, sweet, yum.
The food was amazing service was great fast prompt Recommend the clam chowder it’s really good seasoned in flavors so I have the oysters Rockefeller that is without pork well done delicious and last but not least lobster roll extra garlic butter on the side with home-cooked french fries everything was delicious my lobster tasted like it was from Maine
Wow! If I could give five million stars I would. Food was out of this world. We tried a couple varieties of oysters, the shrimp cocktail ( HUGE shrimp) and the salmon. Everything was amazing. The service was perfect, they dont hover, but are they when you need something. They seems to work as a well greased team, as many people came to our table too clear or serve. Beautiful table by the river, and even a nice rainbow that evening. Will return!!
Awesome fresh and tasty raw oysters, super yummy and healthy walleye with coconut cauliflower rice. The root beer cake trifle was delish! The waitress and manger were very attentive and friendly. Wonderful craft cocktails & mocktails. Nice ambiance open air table overlooking the water! Highly recommend and will be returning!
After eating from here I’ve had food poisoning the last two days I had the lobster roll and oysters I should’ve known better to try oysters at a restaurant other than a few trusted places I know downtown Cleveland. update The manager Casey reached out to me very polite and professional they seemed completely understanding to the situation and offered me a full refund
I made a same day reservation and they were able to accommodate my party which was there to celebrate a special occasion. We were seated by the water which was lovely view with all of the ducks still out swimming. The food was excellent. I suggest the fried calamari and middle neck clams. They bring the warm butter to you with a candle to keep it melted. The whole fish seems to be a fish of the day. Our table had branzino which was cooked to perfection and the swordfish with excellent flavor combinations. I will be back!
Alley Cat Oyster Bar has a cute outdoor area on the roof. There was plenty of room in between the tables for social distancing. They had good happy hour specials on drinks and oysters. The oysters are fresh and served in individual trays on ice. We had east coast oysters and they came with the standard cocktail sauce and horseradish. The sangria is good. The server was very nice and he was attractive. Lol.
Located this place for dinner while in town, manager was gracious to let me have dinner even though it was a bit late and the restaurant was about to close. Ok the restaurant is the perfect vibe whether you are by yourself or dining on a date. I chose the chefs selection of oysters, giving me a variety the try several from different locations. My entree was the crab and shrimp macaroni with lobster added; it was DELICIOUS! Everything tasted fresh and bread is locally baked with corn in it 🤤 To top a great dinner off, the view is breathtaking whether sun up or down! Must try when visiting Cleveland!
This place is beautiful if you can catch it on a day, like we did. It was right on the water. The view is breath taking as the food was really really good. The Ceviche is a great starter. You have a variety of food to choose from for your taste buds. It’s in area called The Flats and it’s worth taking the visit. Not far it all from Downtown Cleveland.
Went for happy hour on Labor Day and was told no happy hour today, sorry. No where on their website did it say happy hour wasnt available on holidays. Our server was nice and apologetic about it. The hostess, not so much ... maybe she was irritated cause other people were inquiring as well.As far as service like I said, our server was apologetic and nice. We got a couple drinks and calamari. Calamari was good but a smaller portion than most Ive tried, especially for a shareable dish. Not sure Ill give Alley Cat a 2nd chance ... you know what they say about first impressions.
Went on a Sunday around 6. David was our waiter. He did his job but was friendly At ALL. He would also do this thing where he would walk away while we were still talking. There was HAIR in my food TWICE IN THE SAME MEAL. I ordered a lobster roll-hair-they re-did it more hair. And neither David nor Mike comped my dinner.
Absolutely mediocre at best. As a non seafood eater with a large party, I relied on the few turf dishes for my meal. Didnt feel like being that guy ordering the most expensive menu item, so I passed on the steak. Unfortunately, my selection of the fried chicken was a big mistake. The thing looked okay, but the skin slid off with every cut, not a hint of crispiness. The chicken tasted outright fishy, as though the meat was cooked in the last fish item on the grill. The server to her credit was gracious in allowing me to select another entree but two others in my party had a similar experience.Id also like to point out the major health hazard this posed. If Id had a serious iodine or seafood allergy as my partner does, this experience would have sent me to the hospital. For the reputation this restaurant seeks, better food safety and handling procedures would serve everyone well.
Very nice restaurant on the river. Lots of outdoor seating and removable doors to open it up. Good seafood dishes and selection of oysters. Also a good list of wines and beers. Service was also very good. If you want a window seat, make a reservation or be ready for a wait
The food was really great. We miss the bread that used to come to the table. Id gladly pay for it if it was on the menu. The current bread appetizer is ok but we had a whole conversation about how the (now discontinued) bread was quietly awesome as we were headed there. Unfortunately our server wasnt around much and the restaurant didnt seem particularly busy. We really enjoyed our food and cocktails though. The oysters were all very clean and shucked properly. Also, the other staff were really great about getting empty plates out of our way as they passed by. Our server was a really pleasant person, they just could have checked in a bit more often to get our next order in and get us more drinks. Its still above average but it used to feel more special going there.
Extremely overpriced for the quality of food. Absolutely nothing was good and neither was the service. Our waitress barely attended to the table and took forever to come back whenever she decided to make an appearance. She said she would have to check to substitute a salad for fries and could only do arugala. Are you joking? Even paninis does this. Clam chowder was horrendous I’ve had better soup from a can. I couldn’t even chew the clams enough to swallow it so I couldn’t eat the soup at all. They don’t do bread so we ordered $8 bread which was chewy and hard. It’s a shame the food sucks so bad because the restaurant atmosphere is nice. Will absolutely never be returning.
Went for dinner 4 varieties of oysters, all were fresh and tasty, salmon, lobster roll and grilled octopus were all well made, though the lobster roll could have had a bit more sauce/dressing in the sandwich, corn side item was different and tasty. Our server was friendly, well informed on menu items and attentive. Scenic setting on Cuyahoga River, parking was easy too.
Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious!!! There was one minor issue unrelated to food or service and our server and the manager were extremely relaxed and accommodating! We will definitely be back. Highly recommend the baked oysters and lobster Mac and cheese!!!
Sun par food on tasting menu, possibly worst server I have ever encountered- we couldn’t even finish our chef tasting 2 hours still had 2 courses left we had to leave . Our server only checked us every 15 mins , so we had to get up and find other servers many times for drinks , salt pepper etc. then we paid with 2 200$ visa gift cards and she gave us the empty one back and kept the one with 180$ on it !!! She gave us the wrong card !! Intentional or not this sucksss , this place was a disappointment for the high expectations in the location it’s positioned!
Downtown Cleveland on the water watching yachts come and go. You can sit inside or outside, upper and lower levels. Upper has the nice view. The street has a market during the summer, fun to check out. Drinks were good at Alley Cat and the oysters were served nice and cold on a hot fall day.
The oysters were really good, the grilled romaine salad was underwhelming - and a disappointment for the price point. The crab cake was very tasty and the service was good. The downside is the location, yes, I get it - water front in the flats. But there is a large bar directly across the street that plays extremely loud music that was almost unbearable.I would go back, but probably only in the winter when the establishment across the street won’t have their patio open. Or maybe like a Thursday.
Did a dinner for 13 here and everything was great. Anthony provided great service and the kitchen served up great food. And thank you Michaela for putting the whole thing together. Great location on the east bank of the flats, right on the river. Highly recommend Alley Cats.
Tried several different dishes between 4 of us, not particularly impressed by any of the food.Ceviche was just fine, same with crab cakes, the side salad with crab cakes was good. Chowder is fine, halibut is too salty and can’t taste the fish. There are definitely better places in Cleveland.
I recommend Alley Cat Oyster Bar to everyone when they tell me they are headed to the Flats for a night out. A girlfriend and I would go to Alley Cat during the week, just to sit on the patio and enjoy the view. Nothing beats happy hour with a view like that! A great place for happy hour. The quality of seafood is excellent, for all the seafood lovers out there. The staff is friendly, professional, and knowledgeable.
We hadnt been here since 2019, and hoped that it would be as good as we remembered. In fact, it was EVEN BETTER than the last time! In fact, it was so good that we went back two nights in a row for dinner! They have a great outdoor patio with a view of the river, and the rest of the restauarant is pretty open with lots of ventilation, which is a plus. They have fresh oysters, which is another plus.I had grilled octopus the first night, and honestly, it was the best I have ever had - and Ive had it in many places across the country as well as in Italy. It was meaty, perfectly cooked, not dry and not fishy or gamy at all. It was simply spectacular. The second night I had red grouper in a broth with buckwheat noodles, bok choy, cilantro and jalapenos. The flavors went together perfectly and the fish was done just right. My companion had grilled halibut on a bed of smoked cole slaw. Yes, you read that right - smoked cole slaw. It was an eye-opening experience. It was so delicious that I have to try to recreate it at home. Such a simple presentation, but the flavors of the fish with the smoky cabbage and crispy fried potatoes were incredible. On top of all of that, this restaurant is dog-friendly. Many restaurants in Cleveland allow you to bring your well-behaved dog along and sit on their patios, and this makes us very happy. We need more places like that. To find one that has incredible food is a bonus! If you find yourself in Cleveland, please do yourself a favor and go to Alley Cat. You will not be disappointed!
Not worth the hype at all. I went for a happy hour and the drinks were terrible. The gin cocktail tasted like pure sugar and there weren’t any good beers on tap. Everything was extremely expensive so we just got a couple of appetizers which were also overpriced. The fried green tomatoes and dumplings on the appetizer menu were not good, whatever sauce both of those were served with tasted like an overabundance of mayonnaise and both dishes tasted the same due to the same sauce being used for each. Only positive is the location/view which is right on the river. Definitely won’t be going back and wouldn’t recommend
Excellent food and service! Atmosphere inside restaurant was nice but not notable. Outdoor patio very nice but tonight was a little cool. The star is the food and the staff. Oysters, Walleye, Lobster rolls all excellent! A very nice place to celebrate my sons 30th Birthday!
We tried everything. I will drive 1hr and 39min in a Heartbeat . The food was A+. Lobster Roll is to die for.... Tried all 4 oysters on a massive platter . The mussels were the Best I have ever had..... Deserts I would pass on next visit...... Best part was our service today by Chris... Ask for him.... New 100 % all questions on food and history of it....... Best service Ive had in a long time....... We live in Turks and cacios island..... This place is a MUST TRY....
Awesome place.....but only 3 stars.... recently went for a birthday party. Anthony the waiter was awesome, ambiance so nice along the river, great menu.....but food was served cold, coffee afterwards was cold..... It was so disappointing because they have the right ingredients to be great but serving cold food is a game changer for me......Hopefully they can get the kitchen sorted out soon.
My wife and I have been here multiple times and always good except this last time...the view and atmosphere is amazing but food not so much. My wife liked her food but shes not a seafood person. A couple of my oysters were completely destroyed when they shucked them! I also got the octopus for an entree and It was cooked ok but the baby carrots that came with it were beyond burnt or charred...the service wasnt any better. Our waiter wasnt very engaging or anything really! It was very off-putting. He also spilled hot sauce (from my oysters) in the middle of the table and then just left it!!! We never complain or send any food back ever, I probably should have. We wont be back for awhile
7/3/2020 happy hour time. Food was great! Our server Simone was amazing and very attentive! But we had a run in with the people who was working the patio that day, the upstairs patio to be exact. A group of my friends visited the restaurant to celebrate a birthday and thought it would be nice to sit outside once we were sat outside we heard the servers gather around behind us and basically make jokes about who wanted to take us. We are ALL in the industry or used to be so we know exactly what was going on. We are a group of young black individuals and they tried to treat us as if our money wasnt good there! It made us feel uneasy and thats why we ended up inside with Simone (her section was downstairs) who was great and she actually saved the experience!!!!!
AW, SHUCKS! it did not at all live up to the hype. Oysters were cold and good however they are 3 times the cost of what I pay at home in PA. The pinot grigio was chosen by a busboy and not someone who knows wine. Their only Merlot sadly lacked smoke. the bar tender was great despite the dreck he was asked to push at us so the boss could make a buck. The place is in a trendy flats area which for the life of me has little appeal. Even when i was young and drinking like a fish, the gang I hung with actually liked to talk to each other with out screaming. If you like noise, overpriced oysters, and low quality drinks this is your spot
They should just take the 17$ Burger and fries platter off the menu, the burger was hard and burnt around the edges , the fries were fried to a crisp and the pickle was limp as a piece of wet noodles. I guess you’re paying for the view of the river and the over priced low quality seafood, medium well doesn’t mean burnt to a crisp!
Was there for the Bourbon Dinner and it was 100% worth it!! Every course was delicious as were the bourbons and whiskeys. There was an expert providing information on the alcohol. And you could not beat the view being right on the edge of the river! Im also gluten-free and dairy-free and the staff was absolutely accommodating with substitutions as needed with every course. Great food, great service, and even better drinks!
Zach does a great job. It seems that Chef driven restaurants always have great service, and this place was no exception. The food was great and the views were excellent. I had the smoked salmon plate with an order of fresh oysters. The food was fresh and beautifully displayed. Im glad we finally took the opportunity to eat here. Definitely will be back
What a spectacular seafood restaurant. There was several of us and we ordered a slew of different seafood items. My favorite appetizer was the calamari. Great flavor and nice sauce on it. The stuffed clams were ok. The entree we had king crab legs. They were one of the best Ive had. Very juicy and tasty. Also recommend the lobster roll and the lobster Mac and cheese. All of it was top notch. Best part was the staff was nice and the drinks were tasty ( Margarita).
This was my first visit and I wasn’t disappointed! From the beginning when I checked in with the receptionist until I departed this restaurant was fabulous in every way. The ambience upstairs was incredible and the selection of foods was remarkable. It was very busy but the service was prompt and friendly. I happen to have the oysters from the East Coast and they were delicious, I followed it with the lobster sandwich with fries and a side of broccolini! There’s an excellent array of so many more seafood that I’m sure everyone will enjoy.
Alley Cat did an AMAZING job with COVID-19 protocols and safety! The staff was so friendly and made us feel extremely safe dining in there. The service was impeccable, the food was delicious, and the ambiance on the water was superb. Highly recommend for a nice night out!
We decided to eat here for a special occasion and it was perfect. The food was delicious. We started off with The Alley Cat Stuffed Osyers, had the Grilled Octopus and Salmon, and finished with the Coconut Cheesecake. The cheesecake was phenomenal- probably one of the tastiest desserts Ive ever had. Overall, this restaurant was very good but just pricey so I would probably only come back for another special occasion. The ambiance of the restaurant is great too.
The location is great and the outdoor seating is right on the riverfront. I was very underwhelmed by the food. I ordered the shrimp po boy. The rock shrimp was over breaded and they were trying way to hard with the bread. Instead of using a good sandwich bread they tried to upscale it by using a big slice of bread, cutting into the top and shoving shrimp into it. Needless to say it was next to impossible to eat without items spilling everywhere. The others in my party said the food was decent and serviceable and all agreed the fries were good. Ultimately I am giving this place 3 stars for the location only. The food is basic and can be gotten at almost any restaurant. If you go, do it for lunch as parking is only $4. After 2pm it goes up to $10.
Great lunchtime experience. I was waiting on a flight and spent the afternoon working at the bar. Their non traditional salads are excellent and oysters were fresh and tasty. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Internet could be improved. The wine, cocktail and beer list looked great. Overall really pleasant experience, will definitely be back!
Great experience! Food great our server was great too. I loved this place.Great ambiance, server was great, drinks were even better. Two had the yummy lobster roll featured on the front of Cleveland magazine.I had wonderful oysters and beef tartare (it was okay-seemed a little wet).Salads were EXCELLENT! Snap pea, Broccoli Caesar and House Salad, all ordered at our table and were as tasty as they looked. I had a fish special-really good and a side of succotash with bacon. YUMMY!Must have drink - I cant remember the name but it had strawberries and jalapeno and vodka.Cant wait to go back again!
Service was poor and our waiter was not educated with the menu selections. My husband ordered hush puppies that came to him with an uncooked center. He sent them back but the next batch were over cooked and tasted awful. The ceaser salad was a piece of broccoli some roasted peppers with shaved Parmesan and a touch of dressing. Not worth the price. Lobster roll tasted like canned or imitation fish. Way overpriced. Overall it was terrible. Terrible food and lousy service. We will not be returning.
One of my favorite places to eat on the flats. The seafood and shellfish are amazing and they have a few options for those who enjoy eating things that live on land. The portion for the calamari app was huge! The red fish was cooked to perfection on my last visit. Pretty good beer selection and a huge wine list. parking right next door.
Came with my dad back to back nights, In town for a nfl game. Came for a drink the first night, great service. 2nd night came for early dinner and had amazing service from both manager(casey) and bartender(mike).👏 Food was to die for good! Fresh as can be for Midwest state. The experience was just all around awesome! Learned something new and taught something as well. If you come from WI and ask for a WI old fashioned both guys will know exactly what you mean, they are dedicated and willing to learn. Fantastic guys and a great place to eat at when in town!
My first time at Alley Cat yesterday and the experience blew me and my sister away. Simone took good care of us and ensure that we took advantage of happy hour!!! Thank you Simone, you made that experience what it was. Gala and I will be back save the kenz & Gala sampler: fries, popcorn shrimp and artesian bread.
Pricey, but seafood always is. Food was good! Lobster roll, crab cake app were very good. Fish sandwich also very good. Got a bloody mary ,was good but was build your own. Other people touch the fixings for your drink, anybody could touch, because theyre right on the bar. Gross.
Can I just say, this is one of my new favorite places for seafood. We went for Sunday brunch and it was amazing. I cant tell you how amazing the food is. The oysters are very good quality and the sword fish was by far one of the best Ive had. It is very beautiful and cozy inside. I recommend ordering your first instinct on the menu as I thought way too much about all the good options. This is a must go!!
I was on a business trip and had heard from a news anchor in nyc that one of her favorite places in Cleveland was Alleycat so I thought I should check it out. It did not disappoint! The waitstaff was super nice and understanding of my food allergies! They even had gluten free bread for me! And customized a plate for my liking! Great spot! Also the view of sunset is wonderful!
Visited on a Sunday during COVID. Masks are required to enter and staff wore theres while serving. Say on the lower deck patio. The menu is accessible via a QR code. Oyesters were on point. The lobster roll is delicious and so was the fish sandwich. Definitely making a return trip.
I was there for a special event in the upstairs part of the restaurant. We were served heavy hors doeuvres which were very nice indeed and we had a great view of the Cuyahoga River. The choice of wines was extensive. The servers were quite attentive and pleasant. All of the guests commented on how pleasing a venue this was for our gathering.
Service was friendly. I ordered the walleye and my girlfriend ordered the salmon, then our waitress came back to say they were out of both. We had oysters and peel and eat shrimp which were both very good. I guess when the menu is so pricey I expect things to go more smoothly.
Absolutely loved this place! The host last night was so funny and helpful and got us a nice table by the water for my husbands birhday. The service was phenomenal and so was our food. Our server stefanie was so helpful with everything and made it a great experience. The manager even seemed very attentive to his guests, walking around and helping where he could. Overall it was a great night. Will definitely be coming back again.
Food was great but the Saturday morning/afternoon hostess was a real dud and the service was lacking. It took them 12 minutes to figure out who was serving our table among the 5 people standing around and they were empty other than our party of four. Theyre not cheap either. Hopefully they get a hostess with a personality and figure out their service stations soon. Great location - phenomenal actually!
Great seafood, amazing views, perfect place for a summer night out. Lobster roll and Scallops are beyond exquisite. Shrimp stuffed peppers, snow crab, lobster, fresh fish etc...the menu is 5star havent had this level of seafood experience since San Diego. The oysters are always fresh, top quality and there Oyster bar has great and always changing options...Alley Cat is an Oyster lovers paradise 👍🏼
Underwhelming experience. Mistake 1, making a reservation via open table. Mistake 2, staying there after being seated at a tall table next to the entrance looking away from the water watching everyone depart and arrive through the front door. Spent $200 on okay food for other parties to enjoy a view of the water. One of our guests with a shellfish allergy had to order a salad because it is the only dish not exposed to frying, the dominant cooking method for most of the food. I was asked whether I wanted the salmon medium rare or well done. This for pan seared salmon, a fish that should be grilled. And fish is either raw, cooked through, or it becomes a door stop. Service is delivered by a young staff that is in dire need of professional training. All in, a very expensive experience for not such good food, untrained service and a view of the front door. The menu needs an overhaul, the staff trained and the guest experience very carefully created. Overall, you can do better at home, with better views and at less expense. Cannot recommend and will not return until it operates as a restaurant.
I understand this restaurant is new and everything still has to come together. I think in a couple of months they should be dialed in. However right now they are not. Once we were finally seated we were able to order our food. It took a while for our drinks to come out however the food literally took 45 min before it arrived. I gave 3 stars because of the great atmosphere and views on the patio.
A fun place for oysters and drinks in Cleveland. Great rooftop area and bar and indoor/outdoor seating by the river. Staff is always friendly they maintain a professionally casual atmosphere. If youre not sure what to do in the area, stop by the Alley Cat, have a drink (and an oyster) on the roof top bar and gaze around, youll find something that peaks your interest within view.
Maybe it was because Id not seen the inside of a restaurant in 3 months or maybe it was just because the wait staff was just as good as the food. I wish WISH I could remember the name of the guy who basically could have sold us a Lexus he was so enthusiastic about the menu - made for an awesome experience. And theyre taking plenty of covid-precautions! A mask when you walk in, online menu you can scan at check-in, and they took our temps. But everything was really fun. So happy we happened upon this place. Now just need to wait for the delivery of my Lexus....
The best patio in Cleveland. The best oysters in Cleveland. The best overall. Alley Cat is amazing and a go to place for shellfish lovers. Also, the drinks are fantastic. Staff is wonderful as well, and the layout of the restaurant is visually fantastic. Love it here, cannot recommend it enough to oyster newbies and veterans alike.
I was so disappointed today! Had we not had such a good table with a view....I would have wanted to leave right after we had such a poor waiter. We had our grandchildren with us. They are well behaved, but I felt as if he just didnt want to be bothered!!!! Fortunately, he moved outside, and was replaced with someone else. The bloody Mary Bar is gone, no brunch items at all...and this was early this afternoon on Sunday. We will not return! No stars here.
Visited on Friday night with a friend and got seated immediately. The restaurant has a really nice indoor/outdoor atmosphere where you can sit inside but a large wall of garage doors opens to the river. It’s great if you want to be outside without having the sun and wind elements. We ordered the raw vegetable and deviled eggs as an appetizer and both were solid though they came rather quickly. My friend had the scallops which she said were good but the accompanying spinach and polenta were just ok. She felt there wasn’t enough textural difference between the scallops and polenta and the spinach salad as over cooked. I had the appetizer portion of crab cakes for my entree. I felt it was enough to leave me satisfied though not full. The cake tasted mostly like crab which I appreciated and if I came back I’d order it again. The main reason I would likely not return to as the service. I know it sounds silly to say but we were way overserved. In the course of our hour long meal we were interrupted at least 15 times (we counted) and couldn’t enjoy the experience. The interruptions were unnecessary. Two different managers asking about our experience, along with the waitress asking to clear our plates the second we were finished with each. The problem is that we came to socialize with each other and wanted to linger over good food and wine. We were so annoyed that we ended up just wanting to leave. Lastly, when we told the manger how experience actually was, he didn’t seem to take the feedback well. He commented that, “well we try our best to give you the best service possible.” It would have been great to have him acknowledge that our experience was not the best possible and to consider it further.
Had a good experience overall. The wine and oysters were great. We ordered a whole fish. Took a long time, came out over done, (sitting in fryer too long or under a heat lamp). Still tasted OK. Something about unable to open up umbrella b/s one fell over day before. Thats fine, but my 8 year old was having a hard time on a 90+ degree day. Eventually we moved to a shady spot. I went to move a table and the manager freaked out. A little too nuts about the legal thing. Sh_T Happens & I understand you need to b e prepared. It was 90+ Sunday and I had a kid, it was hot! and I just came back from Central America! OPEN THE UMBRELLA
This place is fabulous. They have great seafood and raw oysters were to die for!!! They have other things beside seafood, but seafood was very fresh. They have excellent bread, interesting drinks. Loved the place. I dont think you can go wrong with a Zack Bruell place. Service was excellent, view was amazing. Cant wait to go again
This was my first visit to Alley Cat and I was happily surprised by overall experience. There was a thirty minute wait, not too bad for a busy day in the flats, so we sat outside near the dock and waited. The restaurant has tables spaced pretty well which I appreciated, and their outdoor seating is fantastic. The food was amazing. My girlfriend wasnt too impressed, but shes a bit of a critic. We ordered Clam chowder and the Mussels for apps, both delicious (she agreed). The Mussels came in a tomato soup-esque broth and had bacon, total win. For entrees we ordered the Swordfish and grilled Octopus. She wasnt thrilled with either (and insists all fish taste the same) however I found both to be delicious. Will definitely be back to try other menu Items.

2022-01-02We went for the 7 course tasting and added the wine/cocktail pairing. It’s one of the few places that I found would do cocktail pairings as an option. Our waiter Tony was awesome and made some awesome oysters suggestions. I would highly recommend making a reservation to sit at a window for a river view. Loved the food and overall experience!

2022-06-28If you can sit on the rooftop riverside that is the best seat in the house. I had lobster macaroni and cheese and my friend had little lobster roll. Delicious. The staff was very nice. We did have to wait about 30 minutes, but it was well worth the wait.

2022-07-10Alley Cat Oyster Bar is my new seafood spot. Me and my party ordered the fish sandwich w/fries, a dozen of fresh oysters, lobster roll w/ fries and a salmon poke bowl. I had a cocktail that compliment with the fish sandwich. The staff was very nice and will to take of you anyway they can. Also worth the price.

2022-07-05Ally cat is a nice restaurant. The menu isnt bad with mostly seafood and a couple meat selections. We got the swordfish and the pork porterhouse. The swordfish was just ok and the pork meal could have been amazing but it was not cooked properly. It was too charred and medium well which made it too tough. The potatoes were not edible because they were so over cooked or under a heat lamp for 25 mins. The cream corn bbq sauce was delicious. The deviled eggs were good and the key lime pie was average at best. The cocktails were very good and the restaurant as a whole is really nice and clean. If I went back I would probably only do the oysters since they cant mess that up.

2022-07-05A lovely place!!!We took a chance and went without a reservation, it was just 2 of us. We were able to get indoor seating, BUT their indoor area has huge garage door esque windows that roll up so it felt like we were outside! We had the Hanger Steak - delish! Fingerling potatoes in the steak dish needed some more seasoning. The Lobster 🦞 roll, definitely more lobster was needed, but overall delish!!! The fries were banging!Oysters were good, and our server was able to let us know which ones we ordered.Cocktails could have been presented a lil fancier 🍹🍸The Key Lime Pie was also a banger ♡♡♡ delicious!!!Overall, delicious and a really nice atmosphere ♡Will definitely go again the next time we are in Cleveland!

2022-05-23Stopped in after capturing a surprise proposal nearby and I am so glad that I did! First time having oysters and I’m HOOKED! The service here was incredible and they also had some awesome artwork on the walls—can’t wait to go back again soon!

2021-06-29I’d you’re looking for a great place to try out some oysters and have a few drinks, look no further. Great trays of oysters and great drink options. Dinners tasted great but recommend the few we tasted without the added sauces. The salsa complimenting my swordfish was so spicy, I couldn’t taste the rest of the meal. The sauce with my fiancées steak was basically a sweetened ketchup. On their own though, great tasting meals. The deviled eggs were perfect, swordfish cooked to perfection, the hanger steak tender as can be and the lobster Mac to die for, well worth the visit. They were a bit busy last night, service was a tad on the slow side but understandable. However, would have appreciated more than a single refill of beverages through the evening.

2021-08-09Amazing! The best crab legs, oysters and mussels I’ve had in awhile and that says something because those are in my top 10 favorite foods! The view is also beautiful and the service was great. Could not recommend this place more!

2021-07-20PROS: This restaurant has an amazing view of the river and our waitress Rebecca made the view better. She was also a very good waitress and made the experience lovely. I ordered a hamburger and fries which came out quickly.CONS: Theres no parking except for a paid lot down the block and the bathroom only holds one person at a time. My burger was burnt and they also were a little overpricedOVERALL: I would probably try another place next time but if youre into seafood this is the place to go
