Akron Childrens Hospital in other cities:
My child spent one week in the NICU a few days after his birth, receives care from an ACH neurologist and most recently has received care from an ACH urologist. In every interaction, his care has been toP notch - excellent communication, kindness, high levels of professionalism - and in a beautiful facility.Thank you to his care providers.
Treat every Child like our own well thats a lie. They have no urgency and everything is just a virus. Took my 18 month there twice. First time she had RSV and bronchitis and didnt catch that. Second time she had an ear infection. I now take my daughter to the urgent care in Austion next to Home Depot they dont specialize in peds but they Definitely do a better job than this place.
I took my son in 1/9/22 he wasn’t feeling well. I’ve never been to Children’s and has a problem but tonight the Nurse KELSEY was so rude I complained about her 5 minutes later I hear her saying “I’m not apologizing I don’t care to” like how rude I didn’t wanna hear that or care for her apology my son isn’t feeling well I didn’t go to the ER to deal with a ride Nurse, then when I approached her and asked why would she walk past and say that to where I could here her she denied it and rolled her eyes. KELSEY if you don’t like your job get a new one I wouldn’t recommend you to anyone TERRIBLE NURSE
The fact that you are putting your staff on leave, who aren’t vaccinated is disgusting!!! So you can have nurses that have a positive Covid test work everyday but not the unvaccinated ones??? How does this make sense. So it’s either get vaccinated or look for a new job?? I hope they all sue you in the long run!!!
We were referred here when we found out Our baby had a massive heart defect. This place was just absolutely awful to deal with. They charge you hospital fees just walking into the door. I wish we would’ve went to the Cleveland clinic. I felt like the care we received was not professional.
They tried to diagnose my newborn baby with hyperthyroidism. They told me I had to make her take pills for the condition everyday, for the rest of her life. They ran so many test saying her levels were high, it did not sit right with me. After being told by the pediatrician at Akron Children’s Hospital that I was being a negligent mother by not putting her on the pills that, I did not feel right about I took my baby to get tested at another hospital all the way out in Twinsburg University Hospital. They sent me the test results back saying there were ABSOLUTELY no concerns for hyperthyroidism in my child and, her levels were completely normal. Akron Children’s pediatrician also told me that my child would be mentally underdeveloped and, dumb if I did not put her on the medication. I am so glad I stuck to my motherly instincts and, never gave her the pills because she never even had the condition! They attacked my parenting and, made me feel as I did not have a right to make the best decision for my child. Now she is 2 years old and VERY intelligent and advanced for her age. They need to be more careful before they actually do this to someone who gets medically injured and, has a law suit on them.
My daughter was recent hospitalized here and they did a wonderful job with her. Shes almost 2 and diesnt do well with strangers and they did so well with her. Our stay was made comfortable and even though they were busy and short staffed they just did wonderful!!!! Thank you for taking care and loving my daughter the way everyone did💜💜
The nurses and doctors were so amazing and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience in the ER and then 7200. Angie in the ER (helped my son with breathing treatments) was an angel on earth. Nurse Aysa and Megan in 7200 were so so sweet to us. We loved them! They also gifted us a humidifier to take home. I would trust them with everything! I hope they know how grateful we are.
I would give 0 star if it was an option. We had an appointment with our children doctor at 5PM. After her diagnosis, the nurse practictioner suggested to have blood work for our boys at Akron General Hospital in a concern of the gum bleeding. She ensured us that Akron General Hospital ER should have received our children information and should have known that we are visiting. We got to the ER at 6:30PM. About 1hr in, our children were called in to have their weight, temp, heart beats, and general questions retaken (I assumed it is part of the procedures as aggregate information is needed since the last time they were taken for accurate diagnostics). We were then told to wait to be called shortly. Aroubd 8:30, I lost my patience as this is ridiculously long wait for a blood work and went to ask the front desk. I was told that there were many people ahead of us (yet I saw people who came in after us but was called in. I guess, blood work can wait... It must be...). At 9:49 PM, it was way past my children bed time, we were still waiting for...a blood work done. I went to ask again and was told we were the 5th and 6th in line... 10PM we left. It is too much for a blood work...We had such a great experience that I am trying to find another place that can take care of our children and I would advice others the same. If you worry about your children well being, stay away from Akron General Hospital ER. Best regard.
My daughter was recently admitted to Akron Childrens Hospital it was nice to have professional staff that tries to go above and beyond for my baby and myself and her father!!!! The nurses ,doctors, students intraining, housekeepers, security, front desk and ALL STAFF all throughout the hospital made us feel welcome and comfortable!!! We was on the 7th floor so I really want to say thank you to all of our doctors and nurses, especially to our nurse Megan , she is AMAZING and she is definitely a fanominal RN...This hospital is the best at taking care of our littles!!!! We have always been happy with Akron Childrens hospital and doctors offices ❤🤗 SO THANK YOU FOR ALL THE HARD WORK
Doctor looked like he walked of the street literally. We were there for an ultrasound they charged us 3 times the amount of another hospital we were at and I repeat the doctor must have been on a call when he had us scheduled as we waited a while on him, when he finally did show he was very unprofessional I mean if youre gonna charge a visit like that $1000.plus at least take one minute to clean up before you show up.. I do a better job at my $50,000 a year sales rep job and for what I paid them I think Im in the wrong career. They may have better service in other departments but this was ridiculous!!!
This hospital has gone downhill tremendously. It’s no longer a place for children to go & have their medical needs addressed & fixed or as close to fixed as possible. It’s no longer a place where parents are comfortable with taking their children to be helped for their medical needs. The nurses, people who want to be nurses, unfortunately some of the doctors too, & so many other staff here, especially receptionist, are just rude. It’s really very sad what has become of Akron Children’s Hospital. They look great for the media, & for those they want to get money out of to expand, but very few at the hospital actually care about the children & their well-being. It’s just a paycheck & not about these childrens lives. They make it look so good though. It’s sad that our only other option for emergency medical treatment is so far away.
This place is not what it used to be.They left us sit in the waiting area for over an hour and a half while my 5-year-old son had a fever over 101 and I had to threaten to leave and suddenly they had a room for him. After explaining for the fifth time what was wrong, they finally ordered a urine analysis. We waited two hours and finally asked a nurse what was going on. She looked up from her phone and saw that our results had been back and she was sending the doctor in right away.We were told no infection and it must just be viral and sent on our way.If youre going to drive an hour to get there from Mansfield, youre better off going to Columbus.
OMG... AFTER NEWLY MOVING TO AKRON MY FAMILY WAS TRAUMATIZED. THEN I HAD TO RUSH MY SON TO THE HOSPITAL NOT KNOWING WHERE TO GO. AT THE LAST MINUTE SOMETHING TOLD ME TO BYPASS THE FIRST HOSPITAL AND I DROVE DIRECTLY HERE. I CANT EXPRESS HOW AWESOME THE STAFF IS HERE. THEY SAVED MY SONS LIFE.. THE ER TEAM DOCTORS AND NURSES WASTED NO TIME AS HIS HEART WAS BEATING ALMOST 300 BEATS PER MINUTE..THAT WAS IN JANUARY OF 2021. UNFORTUNATELY WE HAD TO COME BACK AND ONCE AGAIN THEY WERE ABSOLUTELY TOP NOTCH! THIS TIME IT WAS 3 DAYS Before my sons birthday 8 MONTHS AFTER THE FIRST TIME THIS ACCURED. They not only did there jobs but went above and beyond and Came in singing and presented him with gift cards and gifts all while in the emergency room... After he was STABILIZED of COURSE..AFTER WATCHING EVERYONE MOVING QUICKLY YOU VAN PHYSICALLY SEE HIW THEY EXERTED ALLOY OF ENERGY VERY QUICKLY AND TO STILL COME IN TO UPLIFT HIS SPIRITS REALLY TOUCHED MY HEART. I CAN ASSURE YOU IVE BEEN IN NURSING 23 YEARS AND NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH GENUINE LOVE AND CARING COME FROM THE STAFF IN A ER DEPARTMENT. I ABSOLUTELY WOULDNT RECOMMEND ANY OTHER HOSPITAL FOR YOUR CHILD.. AS I TRULY LOVE AND APPRECIATE THEM.. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH EMERGENCY ROOM STAFF...IC UNIT FOR BEING WONDERFUL IN YOUR FIELD AND CARING..
I don’t usually do review but I need to share this with all the moms , If I could give 0 start I would do it , I went with my 4 years old daughter and spend 5 hours waiting in the waiting room seeing how other older patients went in and out like nothing and every time that I asked they said she is next which was a lie, my daughter was crying on pain and they did not care, they only kept taking vitals every 2 hours, terrible service, worse hospital to go if you have a emergency with your kid , think twice before coming to this location, the front desk was nasty and unprofessional, first and last time that I take my daughter to this place.
Absolutely amazing hospital! The staff is amazing, everyone was so nice very helpful! Even the parking attendants are nice! If I could give 10 stars I would! They completely put myself and my daughter at ease about her procedure, it was quick, easy and painless. Very caring doctors, nurses, aids, and staff!
My daughter has pychiatric issues and have been taken to Akron childrens hospital meny time every time has been a callosal waist of time the psychiatric ER staff will not not admit her as she tells them upon arrival that she didnt mean the suicidal or homicidal threats so the pack her up and send her home I have been through this so meny times in the past five years the know her on sight they refuse to admit her or treat her as that treatment is not what the ER does and in patient is not for her because she changes her story. We are told to fallow up with her out patient counselors which we do. The hospital is useless and just makes money for telling me shes making it up what a waist
They have no respect for your decisions because they think they know best I refused to allow them to do surgery on my child so they scheduled the surgery anyways and after the day passed they called social services and said I didnt show for surgery Dr Con!!! Dr Khan knew we didnt want surgery... Cant be trusted!!! My baby is a month old so I said NO... Now I have to deal with social services on top of everything else... theres a special place on hell for doctors like him
My twins daughters were born at 27 weeks, and spent 86 days in the NICU. In such a time of worry for my family, everyone that we came in contact with in that hospital was amazing!!! The care we got for our girls were amazing!!! To the point I have chosen to go back and get my nursing degree, so I can work in the NICU myself. And repay other families with the kindness and care my family got
The hospital and staff is truly the best around. Unfortunately, with all of the changes going on, when you call to make an appointment with anything having to do with Akron Childrens, ENT, Pediatrician, etc, you are forwarded to a call center or someone working from home, where you have to be on hold for 45 minutes. Everytime. I have waited on hold for so long several times, that I got in my truck and drove to tye Green location, went inside and made an appointment while still being on hold. After I left, I was still on hold. Beyond ridiculous and frustrating. Please fix this.
I was admitted to the ER and we didnt have to wait long at all, the nurse who brought me to my room was extremely kind but my doctor was extremely rude and laughed at me when I told him what was going on. I was in the ER from 10pm til 5am until finally taken upstairs to the residency area. I felt mocked and laughed at by the staff. Would rather go anywhere else.
Visited ER recently i didnt like the way my daughter and I were treated. Nurses were very rude the doctor was not understanding she was very unprofessional ! The pediatric intensive care unit team did an awesome job caring for my child love those guys great team work and communication ! Some of the staff members from the ER could use more medical schooling
Early this morning my daughter was taken by ambulance from our home hospital (we live in Trumbull county) to Akron Childrens (in Akron) for observation. My daughter has high functioning autism & doesnt speak & has major sensory issues. The staff was absolutely AMAZING not only with her but with us (myself & her father). We didnt have to sit there & wait for an update on what was going on, the staff was readily available whenever we needed them, even the food service was great! The nurses were phenomenal (I believe our nurse was Alex) & the doctors were even more amazing & caring! I wish this hospital was closer to where we live because this would, without a doubt, be the only hospital we use. Thank you ACH for everything you do, you guys are amazing!
I would like to start out by saying I have had some horrendous experiences in hospitals, to the point of it being an issue of anxiety and panic when entering a hospital. I gave birth to my son in North Carolina two years ago and it wasnt the best experience and I had just gotten used to doctors and nurses not listening to the mothers needs or wishes to the point where I felt devastated, vulnerable and jaded. But I came in two days ago to give birth to my daughter and I fell absolutely in love with the energy, patience and overall concern that these nurses had for my wishes and health needs. I met well over 15 nurses during my stay and not one of them had an attitude for even a second with me.I know that sometimes people can have bad experiences based on every day circumstances and not everyone is always in the best mood, that goes for patients and nurses, because no one is perfect and we all deal with things differently, but I am so very grateful for the involvement I was able to have and I am so grateful for the nurses, doctors, students, cooks, and cleaning staff that took care of me and were genuinely nice and concerned over my well-being.I also loved listening to the communication between the nurses who were learning and the ones who were teaching. It was very progressive in that aspect. No one seemed afraid to ask questions or help each other learn and grow from their experiences.
Very disappointed in the staff in the lobby was brought in by ambulance sent to loby to wait which i understand rooms are full but my child started to throw up and i had to holler 3 times to get their attention cause they were all sitting in a circle bullshiting and on their phones and then they looked at her throwing up and acted like yea shes throwing up and im like excuse me can i get a towel look just for them to get up and get it next time leaving vomit all over the floor
They were so patient and understanding with trying to help out 2 exhausted parents with a non verbal autistic child. Its a 20 out of 10 if I could give them that rating. The medical students, residents, doctors, specialists, xray technicians, radiologists, phlebotomist all go out of there way
So after calling 2 different people to get a price for therapy, they said sorry - we can’t tell you the cost of each appointment. Even though I provided a billing code & name of service. My insurance doesn’t cover this, which I explained, so I have to pay out of pocket 100%. They simply refused to tell me the cost because “they couldn’t find it” even though I called the billing department with the code & begged for them to ask their supervisor & get back to me. It’s ridiculous to expect people to show up and agree to paying an unknown cost!
I’ve been going to Akron Children’s main campus since Spring of 2019. The staff was so patient with me and my parents. I especially want to say how thankful I am for Dr. Pittinger and Dr. Andrews (my surgeons) and Dr. Wyneski. They have all been patient with me and I just want to say thank you to all of my doctors and nurses. I got surgery in December of 2019 and I had so much fun with my nurses on New Years. I will be getting another surgery soon and I’m very nervous but the doctors and nurses always tell me that it will be okay and I will feel better soon. So thank you to ACH for being such kind people.
My son was a trauma patient and I have to say the care recieved from the trama team and surgical team was excellent! We want thank our nurses Amanda, Andria and Maggie for taking excellent care of our son. They were very attentive and kind. We have been to Childens multiple times and have experienced nothing but the best care. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS!
I have to come here a lot for testing and appointments. Its really nice, the overall atmosphere, the doctors, the food, the gift shop. Ive been coming for a few years now and dont really mind coming, almost look forward to it because the experience is so nice.Just one thing - the wait times. Im not sure if this is in their control or not. But one time, if I remember correctly, I had to wait in the ER for nine hours. Give or take a few, this was like 2017. But I was in pain for a long time. I feel like waiting times could be improved.
I had my son there on Dec 23, 2019 for a scheduled appointment with his doctor. After the appointment, i was sent to radiology to get a copy of my sons x-rays to take with me and the woman working there was terrible. She was the only rude person Ive ever met working there. My son even mentioned her being mean when we left. She was rude from the minute we walked in. Even other patients sitting in the waiting room were looking at each other like they couldnt believe how rude she was being to everyone. Unbelievable.
The care and respect the staff have for children amd adults are like no other hospital around. All of my kids love to come here! Yesterday, we had a long day in store and to our much surprise, both my kids, one older and one young, were given goody bags with all sorts of activities in them at our ultrasound check in! They were made from a local sorority, which shows how much love and support this hospital gets from not just the patients, but the community! We travel 40 minutes one way in order to come here. And will continue to do so because of the care and expertise along with the love and passion the people who work here truly have for wanting to improve the lives of children. We feel very grateful to be a part of that!
Having surgeries here for my kids have been very helpful and the staff BUT the ER doctors I feel just want to make an easy $$$. Bring my baby in, they state acid reflux but are not allowed to write scripts for it that we have to go to PCP for one. So my child will now have to suffer longer and struggle to eat all weekend till I can get into doctor and Monday I have no clue if they have an opening yet at doctors. Very disappointed in these ER doctors.
We have been in multiple times with our newborn son and Akron Children’s staff have been fantastic and helpful. I’d like to personally thank Dr. Patel for her empathy and kindness working with a first time mom. She eased my worry and even followed up with a phone call. It is so nice to know that we are not just another patient, but that employees like Dr. Patel care greatly about the people they treat. We’ve been in the urology and hematology offices as well, which are top notch also. Thanks so much for all you do!
We recently brought my toddler in for his very first ER visit and had a great experience as far as ER visits can go. We didnt wait long at all in the waiting room before we were taken back to a room. Once in the room it did take some time for a doctor to come in and they didnt spend much time in the room at all but the popsicle my son received after the doctor was in did seem to help calm him down. The registration person didnt actually make it into the room until we were being released to leave but that didnt really impact our visit. Regardless, the doctor was quick to diagnose the problem, prescribed the necessary medications, and tried to be as quick as possible during her examination while still being thorough to ease my childs discomfort.
Staff was very nice...but apparently understaffed from what they say. My daughter would have to sit and wait 30 min until after she ate to lay down...if I hadnt stayed all night, there were times she could have waited over an hour to an hour and a half. Few times she buzzed to go to the bathroom, and it took forever. Once I ended up taking her, and after an hr and 15 min had to buzz again so they could measure it. They are super loud late at night...like they have no idea people try to sleep after midnight.
Today was our first time at Akron Childrens and every staff member, nurse, doctor, etc had a smile on their face. The atmosphere was pleasant and the hospital overall was clean and updated! The receptionists at the help desks were friendly and professional. Dr. Mandalapu was absolutely great! My daughter also said she felt very comfortable talking with her. I have no complaints about our visit today!
I would recommend Akron Childrens to every parent. My daughter had her eye surgery today and everyone was amazing. The doctors, nurses and staff really make you feel confident and comfortable. The life specialists are such a great addition. The Hospital is clean and very kid oriented. Our recovery nurse Dawn truly understood what we were going through! Thanks for taking care of my little girl!!!
Excellent experience! All of the nurses on the 6200 Floor that we had were amazing. One in particular touched my heart. Chrissy, you are wonderful. You took care of my daughter so well in 6221 the entire stay during our days at Childrens.. You made her feel at home, especially her first experience being admitted. So caring. So efficient. Such a pleasant young lady. You put your heart in what you do. Thank you. God Bless you and your family! And to all of the nurses that took care of my daughter, thank you! Everyone was simply amazing. I dont remember names well! My daughter and I first experience with all of this, and your understanding together made it what it was.Good luck to all of you.Sincerely,Rm# 62214/9/19-4/11/19
Trying to get our newborn set up with With Mansfield Akron’s children’s hospital is a nightmare.Impossible to make or schedule a appointment with them..Been trying to get through or set something up since 9am, and it’s now 12:41pm .. Absolutely ridiculous!!Thank god it’s not something urgent.Look elsewhere. ⚠️
My son was in a UTV accident and was air lifted to Akron Childrens. As parents we were devastated. From the minute my son got the emergency room the care was excellent. The trauma team was terrific. Ashley the nurse he had the first night in ICU was really exceptional and took great care of him as well as many other nurses throughout his stay. The communication was good throughout his stay in ICU and also as he improved and went to a regular room. Hali Ramsey was also involved throughout and then took care of his release . Released a week later and he is doing well so far. Highly recommend. Nobodys perfect but Im not sure what they could have done better.
I was planning on working at this place in the coming future until recently. Apparently from what I learned picking around is that they just started paying people without a 4 or more year degrees more than those that do to jobs that require people that are more qualified. Plus the people without degrees have free parking now and people that have their degrees now have to pay for theirs unlike before. Now it may just me be but Id like people that are working with my kids health to be the best of the best and not greenhorns with a two year degree.
Ok! Today the date 06/30/2030 at 11:10pm giving this reviews not because I am bored in parking lot. Actually I came to emergency for my baby at 8:00 pm. And I am waiting outside and can’t hold my wife and baby because her phone died. I called in and some rude lady answer my phone I explain my situation and ask if I can know about my baby? She said what you looking for ? Very rudely and ask me to call her back in 10 mins. What kind a service is this question hospital management? Very unprofessional phone answer .
The hospitality was wonderful when I was hospitalized for a few days. However I had to come back again a few weeks later. I thought whatever you say to the doctors is suppose to be confidential, but I guess one nurse didn’t care and told my parents. That’s exactly why teenagers don’t always trust doctors and nurses with keeping their personal business in private.
The care we received from the medical staff was stellar. Dr. Good did an amazing job on our oldest this afternoon. All staff was attentive and in good spirits. The interesting tidbit to this story is that I did have a bad experience here, and yes Im still leaving a 5 star review. :)Our daughter was scheduled for an outpatient surgery that was supposed to last roughly 30 minutes. As soon as she went back, I went for food as we hadnt eaten in support of our little girl not being able to eat due to doctors orders.I went to the Kay Cafe two floors down as suggested by the extremely friendly guide in the lobby. I took her advice and went to pick up a couple sandwiches for the wife and I to eat while waiting for our daughter to come out of surgery.Turns out if youre new to Kays you can very easily get lost in the sauce. Apparently you have to fill out a card with checkboxes describing the sandwich you would like. There was no signage that I personally noticed instructing you to do so. After watching four or five folks order ahead of me as I stood there in confusion I picked up on the order by card system. My order was in, my daughters surgery was set to last roughly 30 minutes. I waited, waited some more, people who had ordered way behind me were getting their sandwiches.Sure enough the wife calls. My daughter is already out of surgery!I leave Kays half an hour later with no sandwich to visit my daughters post operation. Now seriously, even if I had eaten rotten eggs in the cafeteria I would have still given the hospital a 5 star review simply on care alone. But what happened next is the customer service level you would expect from Akron Childrens. After visiting with my daughter post op I promised her a slushy from the cafeteria. Lets not kid ourselves, this was clearly the opportunity dad was looking for to finally get a sandwich...Grabbed everything I could eat plus a slushy. Waited in line to pay, Woman walks up to me... Apparently she was the manager at the Kays and noticed me waiting for my food earlier when I had to leave abruptly (sandwich-less). She apologized for my earlier service and compd my sandwich (well and the cookies too). I regret not catching your name but this dad feels you should be recognized.I am also very appreciative of the payment plan Akron Childrens offers. Without it we would be in dire straights due to our incredibly terrible health insurance.. :/Godspeed from sandwich dad!
All the doctors here were amazing! Hospital was clean everyone was kind... Nurses as well. We brought our daughter in through the E.R. because she had stopped breathing at home. Out of the whole experience I must say that Dr. Paulin in the ACH E.R. is by far the best doctor we have ever met. She was very very PROFESSIONAL, THOROUGH, CARING, AND INFORMATIVE. This woman was amazing! #MORETHANADOCTOR THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Our daughter recovered from encephalitis meningitis, but there was one doctor who we absolutely did not appreciate. The one who initially treated her was not allowed back in her room because he had an underprepared student attempt a spinal tap when my daughter was un-sedated. Needless to say, that did not go well. We wrote about it in our reviews, but the hospital never wrote back regarding our concerns. However, while that was horrible, the rest of the staff was excellent. The other doctors were amazing. Our daughter recovered (which was the point of treatment), and they immediately took care of the issue with the other doctor. We are very thankful to Akron Childrens Hospital; however, we feel that they needed to pay attention to the way medical students are interacting with patients.
I was in the psychiatric unit about eight months ago. I had the most wonderful experience. They helped me find peace within myself throughout my stay. I was generally happier there then any other psychiatric unit Ive ever been in. They helped me find new coping skills that I actually enjoy. Overall had a wonderful experience there.
Sat in ER for 6 hours. Dr supposedly ordered an ultrasound 2 hours earlier but technician came in and stated she just hot the order. Very poor communication and help. Still sitting here 5+ hours. Ridiculous. AND...ordered an IV to be started but could not explain why!
I AM very veryyy disapointed of the experience I had to go through here twice without any help. A month ago I had taken my 5 month old daughter up to Akron children’s and waited an hour until a nurse took me to a room. My daughter had a temperature of 103 bad wheezing a cough and runny nose with yellow mucus coming out of her mouth and nose, she would NOT go to sleep besides for 2 hours Mabie. Was constantly fussing and screaming since the sickness started. Once the doctor had came in and spoke to me he had said she didn’t have wheezing and her oxygen was 100 and that’s its just allergies and this time of year which was sometime in march. So next thing he did was have the nurse suck, her nose out then told me come back if she looks likes she’s turning blue or looks distressed and if she’s starts breathing fast. So then yes I left and a 4 days later she hadn’t gotten any better still not sleeping doesn’t want to eat nothing. So yes what do I do of course I take her back to the hospital to see if she can be on antibiotics of course still no help I mean if your mucus is yellow you would think a doctor would think she has infection no not in this case of course not so then finally the next day I decided to take her to Medina pediatrics because my mother had told me they don’t take things litely and that they will figure it out and actually help her. So then I listened to my mother took her to Medina pediatrics and the doctor told me she had rsv and that she should have been on antibiotics the first time I took her in the hospital and the doctors noticed yellow mucus which was infection also that they SHOULD have gave my daughter a nebulizer for the wheezing and coughing. Thanks to The intelligent doctor at pediatrics my daughter finally got amoxicillin 400 mg for ten days and my daughter is doing great now if it wasn’t for her help my daughter would probably have Nemonia. Take BABYS more serious Akron children’s and learn what it means to have an infection stop being lazy about your job and give the baby antibiotics before things get really bad
This hospital was once great. My children are adults now and were treated there many times in years past, and the treatment was always superb. It saddens me greatly to see all of these negative reviews about recent experiences. These things happen to hospitals that are administered by business people and not doctors because profit becomes the motivation for decision making. My wife has worked for the hospital for many years. She and others with whom I am aware were not overworked in years past when our children received excellent care. In recent years, however, my wife works 10 to 12 hour shifts, comes home, eats dinner and has to login and work until about 2:00 am. She then has to work several hours at home on both of her days off and then work on her vacation days in order to get all of her work done. And she is only paid for 40 hours per week because she is classified as exempt; another word for slave. She has absolutely no personal life. She has aged 20 years in the last few years. Childrens Hospital is killing her. She will not complain because she is afraid of being fired. It is no wonder that the patient care has gotten so bad. Does anyone want sleep deprived medical professionals who have been mistreated by hospital management for years treating their children?
Childrens used to be easy and convenient for scheduling appointments. The move to centralized scheduling has made it difficult to make appointments. Ive had issues with sports medicine and dermatology. Im currently waiting to schedule an echo cardiogram for my son. Ive scheduled appointments only to have the department have to call me back because it wasnt scheduled for the correct amount of time. It may be a cost cutting program to have centralized scheduling but there is no value to the parents or children trying to be seen.
Usually I have nothing but good things to say about Akron Childrens until today. I still cannot speak a bad word about the nurses or doctors direct, as they saved my babys life several times. My 2 year old has diabetes and had an appointment this morning to see her endo. Due to extreme winter weather, we had no choice but to re-schedule. The person I spoke with was so very unkind. She did not seem to care about my work schedule (my only stipulation- please dont schedule me on a Monday as its very hard for me to get off work) she had a very bad attitude in telling me then the soonest available appointment isnt until March - that is 2 months away. So, I accept the appointment date and time, and she proceeds to tell me how very bad it is that my daughter waits so long to be seen. I asked if there was an on call sort of list - like if someone else cancelled, they could call us in and Nope, no on call list available. I asked why they overbook these kids and she told me they do not overbook- then why do we have to wait 2 months to reschedule?? Then after we reschedule - why try to make me feel so bad about waiting so long?!?! She literally was telling me it is not good to wait so long before I bring her back and its not good for my daughters health.I am beyond furious as it was obviously not my choice to wait that long. They need to get someone with some compassion to schedule the appointments for Dr. Vansickle. The lady I spoke with needs a serious customer service class or two!!!I will not call the patient relations number because I feel like that will not do any good, just waste more of my time.I will be looking for a new endo to take my daughter to as I cannot deal with the severe lack of caring from the appointment schedulers. Its hard enough having a kid with diabetes, I am bringing her here for health CARE not health HATE.
I couldnt have asked for better care for my daughter!! They were intentive, caring, and up front.... as for only 4 out 5 stars... was due to the volume level of the night shift in the ER I heard very loudly information of other residents... my daughter also had complaints about the loud night shift and disrespect from talking and laughing loudly outside of her door on the 8th floor.. if they could get that corrected.... i could find nothing else wrong!!! Still a grade A hospital by far!!
Medical care was great. Billing is a nightmare!! I am financial responsible and signed all paperwork stating such but No one updated the system in a 5 month timeframe of my sons care. So all bills went to father even tho I called several times to fix!! Not their policy to update guarantor information. Now account is in collections when insurance called and explained they were paying. Worst billing company I have ever dealt with!!!
I love this hospital, everyone was very kind and helpful when I had to take my child there. We had to go back for a follow up and called to figure out where we were going the receptionist was RUDE RUDE RUDE!!!!! This lady seriously needs to work on her customer service. Was ZERO help. Acted like I was completely stupid because I wasnt familiar with anything around there, even though Ive only been there once. Im overall still happy with everyone else that Ive had to deal with.
I went to the Fairlawn urgent care with my son. They were unable able to treat him, so they sent us to the main campus for service. We ended up spending 4 hours in the ER. The nurses came in multiple times to apologize about the wait, but due to other traumas that came in there was a delay in providing service to us. That was fine until later I received the bill. They charged me $3,900 for the ER visit alone. On top of this they charged me for the Urgent Care visit. Next time I will be going to UH or the Clinic.
My son was sent here by his pediatrician in Ashland and with such a large facility, I understand the long wait. Once we were put in our room Dr. Doamekpor was outstanding. She made us feel very comfortable and explained everything clearly. What a special talent to be so friendly and accommodating with such a busy place. Thank you Dr. Doamekpor for taking care of my son.
Ive always heard of Akron Childrens Hospital but just recently had to go there a few times. I cannot say or express enough how awesome ALL of the staff and doctors are with the kids and parents as well. They are VERY focused on each individual child and make each one feel important. My daughter had an endoscopy done and she was sedated. They were so comforting and loving with her. It made my heart swell to see he happy and comfortable with the staff. I would highly recommend to ANY parent!
The 8100 unit here is fantastic. It is clean, organized, friendly, and helpful. It helped me through the hardest part of my life. I have always struggled with mental health until I came here. The nurses care, the staff is kind, and they want the best for their patients. Definitely the best psychiatric unit i’ve been to. The er wait was a bit long but I genuinely believe it’s because the unit is so good and people know it. So there’s more people wait for a room. Would 100% recommend.
Absolutely horrible place. HORRIBLE.Waiting THREE hours in the ER waiting room for my dehydrated one and a half year old with a high fever. Finally taken back to a room and we’re going on over THIRTY MINUTES without seeing a soul come into our room. No nurse, no doctor, nothing. All of my experiences with this hospital have been absolutely horrible with rude, nasty comments from doctors and careless nurses. I will never come back to this hospital.
As another reviewer stated, we were also turned away from Urgent Care in Montrose (why they even have an Urgent Care that wont see patients is beyond me) to be sent to the Emergency room. Our childs fever had spiked earlier that night to what we considered to high to ignore, so we didnt want to take a chance. We waited over an hour to be seen, had a nurse and resident do the basic dr. stuff like look down his throat, and ultimately were told the fever wasnt a concern and were sent home. We were relieved until we got the bill, which was for a level III visit (they go from level 1 to 5) I cant imagine care more basic than what we needed, so all I can conclude is that Akron Childrens takes advantage of people needing after hour services and gouges the heck out of you. No one will discuss this issue or return our calls, and yes I know about the patient advocate number. They wont return our calls either. Go somewhere else if you have a choice.
As a mother, my childrens healthcare is extremely important. Weve used Akron Childrens pediatrics since my oldest (13) of 6 was a newborn and theres nowhere Id rather take my kids. In the past 4 months, 2 of my children have had overnight stays at the main campus and their care was top notch.
My family has always had the best experiences with Akron Children’s Hospital. We’ve visited for a broken arm, a broken hand, a serious dog bite and several less dramatic episodes. We’ve had nothing short of superior service from all departments from registration to suture techs, nurses & doctors. Knowing Akron Children’s is down the street, I feel empowered to let my kids try almost anything 😂
The Neurodevelopmental Science Center has given us problems on multiple accounts for the last couple years but the last couple months have gotten ridiculous. After yesterdays visit I wrote a lengthy complaint email to the hospital for being treated with complete disrespect by the Dr. He told me I was smoking too much pot! I dont even smoke pot at all! What kind of Dr. keeps their job after talking to someone like that? He needs fired!!!! He makes the reputable hospital look really really bad!
I tried to schedule a new patient appointment with an audiologist for my daughter and the receptionist was completely RUDE! Waited on hold for several minutes to schedule and was hung up on. When calling back the same receptionist answered with an attitude and kept cutting me off during my explanation of why I was scheduling. Then after all the time passed, I was told I couldn’t schedule an appointment and would have to call back. I have never physically met anyone in this department and I never want to. They really need to brush up on customer service!!!!! If there was an option for 0 stars, I would give that. I hate I have to give them a star just to post a review.
Brought my child in for my first ER visit. Every member of the staff went above and beyond my expectations. They were so caring, friendly, fun, understanding, patient and simply put great. I hope I dont have to bring my child in anytime soon but if I have the need, I know I can trust this staff.
It is really sad that such a great purpose can be so mishandled due to greed. I brought my son here to be seen and we had no tests done just waited for a nurse practitioner to come and let us know his diagnosis and to just do supportive care at home for a virus. We were then charged over 700 dollars after insurance for the services. When I called to inquire of these charges I was simply told my bill went to pay specialists that are employed there that we didnt see. And that I got off lucky if they had coded me as a higher level of care I would have been charged 3 to 4 thousand for the same appointment. Where does it make any sense that I pay for other people to have this care and not what I was due to pay for the services we received. I was hospitalized early in the year at st Elizabeth and had many services done for less than 200 dollars . I will never use this facility in the future and it saddens me that this is being done to others every day. . . Lesson learned :(
My daughter had her tonsillectomy and adnoidectomy performed at akron childrens. From the facilitys to the staff and doctors this place is top notch. We had to return for an overnight stay because some minor complications. It amazed me how friendly everyone was and how they made our comfort a priority as well. So many nice volunteers and activities for the patients. World class care from a world class hospital. Thank you Akron Childrens!!
I am disgusted, and dissatisfied with the doctors and staff at Akron childrens emergency staff who over stepped there boundaries who thought they did there job we took my son in for swelling in his legs . They did x Rays . Everything came back normal . Doctor K said she was suprised that she didnt find any broken bones or fractures in my son legs not only after that was said she went on to tell us that it was protocal to report to childrens services. So we get a case worker because they suspected abuse so instead of telling us that he need more x Rays and a CT scan for abuse they sneaked it in . All x Rays lab work and CT came back negative the doctor was so upset she couldnt put abuse on us that she discharged us so fast and apologized for putting us threw the ringer but didnt find the cause of why my sons legs were swelling they just assumed abused nothing else that could have been medically wrong just abuse and when they couldnt make there point the discharged us with the quickness . Shame on Akron childrens . I use to think highly of this hospital but now after having distasteful things said and being targeted by one doctor who cant think outside the box. never again . We took him to his regular doctor the next day turns out my son might have a vitamin deficiency . Thats why his legs were swelling but Akron childrens.couldnt figure that out because they were set on it being abuse .pathetic to say the least.
A friendly kids atmosphere as well as helpful and attentive staff make this hospital a dream come true when needing emergent care for your child. Prices charged are inline with other hospitals, so dont expect anything different, but care at this hospital was great when my family and I visited.
My experience was 19yrs ago.. they saved my sons life❤️was one of the most traumatic experiences I’ve ever went through.. my wife at the time to me was the most important woman of my life and to be honest she really still is and always probably will be!! I’ll always love her for a lot of special reasons!! The doctors who kept my son alive were amazing!! The staff amazing Makayen Bryce Sallade my first born out of three amazing beautiful kids !! No one will ever know the impact of not being an everyday father has been on me!!
On October 31,2018 I brought my 5 year old son into the Emergency room. He had a terrible cough, some wheezing, and a fever. He has no chronic medical conditions, he’s overall been healthy all of his life.We were put in a fast track room, where we saw Jennifer Duve CNP. After a quick listen to his heart and lungs she said that he had croup.I had asked about xrays to see about pneumonia because of the wheezing, and she told me that they don’t want to do “unnecessary radiation”.She said that she didn’t hear the wheezing when she listened to him, so a breathing treatment wouldn’t help at this point, and he received decadron, which she explained that it was a steroid, and would work over the course of three days. But he was fine to continue all of his normal activities, such as school. Also, allow him to stand outside, the cold air would help to open up his airway.A few days later pass, the wheezing has decreased some (I’m assuming due to the steroid) the cough is still there, his fever is higher than it first was, he’s vomiting due to the high fever, and he has body aches.I called the nurse line, I told them that he was diagnosed with croup, they told me that croup is a virus, these things are to be expected, keep an eye on him, and try to push fluids.Every day he has a fever, he’s vomiting, he’s saying that his legs hurt, hes coughing, he’s wheezing. he’s not eating, because he’s not keeping anything down. But I’m being told “it’s croup, it’s a virus, it has to run its course”On November 9, I took him into his pediatricians office, where she told me “I’ve never seen him like this”The night before he had 104 degree fever, he wasn’t keeping anything down, his color was drained, and he wasn’t his active self. They checked for strep, and influenza A and B, which both came back negative. So again, I’m told this is a virus, keep an eye on him, and try to push fluids. If he wasn’t better by November 11, she would like to see him back.On November 10, he was still running a fever, an average of 103 all day, even with fever reducers, nothing was helping. He was barely drinking. The nurse line told me that is considered a “moderate fever” and to take him in to the hospital or call back if it reaches 105 degrees. He went to sleep around 10pm, around midnight he woke up projectile vomiting, still had a fever, crying in pain from the body aches, and this was enough. We got to Children’s ER about 12:45-1 am on November 11. Dr. Sarah Kline came in, was able to take one look at him, then looked at my husband and I and said “something’s going on, I wouldn’t plan on going home tonight”After listening to him, and assuring him that she was going to make sure she got him feeling better, She ordered blood cultures, x rays, IV fluids, and urine sample.Dr. Kline was able to find that he didn’t have croup, but he did in fact have pneumonia. His ridiculously high fever that was causing his vomiting, had him so dehydrated that he had acute kidney injury, a high white blood cell count, indicating infection, and a heart murmur was also detected. With pneumonia, you should not be outside in the cold air, as previously suggested with the croup diagnosis. After a 37 hour hospital stay, 3 bags of IV fluids, oral fluids, and IV antibiotics, my son was able to be discharged.I feel if the proper testing (the x ray) was done on his first visit to the emergency room on October 31,2018, his pneumonia could have been caught sooner, he wouldn’t have gotten so miserably sick, and wouldn’t currently be terrified of ever being sick again.I feel like a MD should review, and confirm the diagnosis made by the nurse practitioners. While I understand the dangers of radiation, I would not have asked for them if I didn’t feel that they were necessary for my son.I hope this information is helpful for others, and can avoid situations like my son was in. Luckily, my son has always been very healthy. If he had been an infant, or a child with a suppressed immune system, we could have had a very different outcome from this misdiagnosis.
Firstly I want to say that I respect the work the hospital does...However things do happen that must be addressed to help the hospital function on a superior level for its patients. On the first or second week of June a terrible incident happened to a child that met with a huge response for the hospital. About have the town was in the emergency waiting by ways of support for him and his family. The hospital was supportive and patient with this group of supporters.Early this morning June 12th 2016 it seems that a terrible incident occurred with another child. His respectful supporters await in the waiting room. not as large as the first, were soon asked to leave the building ...Why??? There were less people for this incident than the last only days earlier.Incidentally the first group for the first incident were white and the group for the second incident were black... It pains my heart to feel that this occurrence happened out of blatant racism. Is there no diversity training in the hospital? I understand there are people that fear what they dont understand, but this was uncalled for and despicable. How must those people feel when asked to leave? How must the good employees that witnessed this respectful assembly feel when they are the faces that look guilty? Someone higher made the order. Why??? I am hurt to write this, but it must be said. How many time has this sort of thing happened already? It makes me wonder how people of color are treated from employees to patients. Who is responsible? Why are they responsible and allow to do this? This sort of thing can not happen again.
My son had pneumonia last week. Was missed by pediatrician at ach hudson who basically dismissed my concern despite 2 previous hospitalizations. Then when I called they didn’t call back. Took him in Friday and they Gould have called ambulance but didn’t so I rushed him to ER where oxygen was dangerously low. Care was mismanaged at hospital. Didn’t get meds right. Literally waited over 24 hours to start steroids and inhaler when he is asthmatic and was on them at home. Then forgot to write script for steroids when we went home. Didn’t order respiratory therapy. Docotora making residents were clueless and flat wrong half the time. He almost ended up in icu 100% Bc of dr mistakes. With appropriate care he might have been able to avoid hospital. Room and food is awful. Can’t even get breakfast until 815 am when they wake these kids up at 4. Crazy. We are changing over to Cleveland clinic and if god forbid this happens again we will not be back to ach. So disappointed after previous good experiences. Also his ivf site was disgusting and almost blew out and nurses did nothing.
The ER doctors are horrible. Took my 2 month old in (who was wheezing coughing and breathing heavily) to get checked and hopefully a breathing treatment. The DR. Looked at her, had her nose suctioned out. I asked noumrous questions about the possibility of croup, whooping cough and phemonia... he said she had a cold and sent us on our way. I was up all nite making sure she was breathing. Called her Pedi in the morning who took her in immediately after telling her the symptoms, turns out it was CROUP.... my pedi was not happy with the DR. Who had seen her the nite before. Obviously a childs well being is not important at this hospital. Also customer service and the billing department are horrible. Messing with my billing address with out permission, and refusing to fix it. Been trying to get the issue resolved for 2 months now, been lied to and given the run around any time my fiancée or I call. Calling me a liar. Somehow, magically, all the calls we have made to resolve the issue are not on record. Be careful when dealing with these people, they are very shady when it comes to billing and insurance. And refuse to even adresss something may be wrong with your child other than a cold..
Brought my 9 month old son in for a rash all over his body and he had a fever when we arrived. Several hours later after watching many families come and go for simple ailments. I was told it was based on priority. Finally got back to room after three hours and forty five minutes to find a DIRTY bed with red stuff all over it. NOT a very caring hospital in my opinion. If I could rate in negative stars it would be a negative five
My daughter came in to ER with severe headaches times 2 weeks, we sat and waited 5 hours in waiting room, they kept bumping her for more acute cases, eventhough she was extremely sick, and sensitive to the bright lights in waiting room. They finally saw her after six hours of pain, not good enough!!!!!
This one star is not due to the staff or anyone at Akron Children’s. This review is due to the fact that their financial assistance program requires you to have $0 in your HSA to apply. It’s a slap on the wrist for people who save up money to put in their HSA. Nationwide Children’s does not have this requirement. We will be going to Nationwide as much as possible.
My son has had four surgical procedures here!!! Absolutely TOP OF THE LINE CARE FOR HIM!!!! I dont understand the reviews that say that they didnt go to bat for your child!! I just find that so hard to believe. Everyones take on things is different, but I have never found a place that would work until the found the root of the problem!!!! We have our baby, who is now a teen, with us because of your expertise and dedication to my son!!!! Special thanks to surgeons Spector and Smith, and to my sons favorite cardiologist on the planet, Dr. Grace Smith!!! Because of the three of you, my son is with us!!! We love you all for blessing us with our gifts life!!!!!!!!
Took my 2 year old son in for a high fever. I spent 1 1/2 there waiting. Come to find out someone with a 3 year had been waiting 5 HOURS! A NEWBORN WAITING MORE THAN 2 HOURS! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? YOU ARE A MULTI MILLION DOLLAR FACILITY AND YOU CANT GET THESE CHILDREN SEEN FASTER! OH THERES NO BEDS!! I DONT CARE FIGURE IT OUT!!! I ended up leaving and going to his pediatrician!
5 stars for nurses and docs -5 stars for everything else. Son has been in 2 times for pneumonia. First time we didnt have running water for days. Second time we are getting threatening letters from there payment dept about collections. So we have called multiple times and have been paying bill every month via ACH payment plan. They take the money and say it shows we have been paying, but we still get threatening letters. The people running this dept are clearly incompetent. Will be contacting attorney general and bbb. Will not stand for harassment.
I typically had no issues with this hospital but the Concord Rehab facility that they recently purchased, definitely needs work. My wife asked prior to bringing our daughter there if our insurance would cover it and they said yes. They made no attempt to contact our insurance and in the end, we were on the hook for the full $1800. We didnt find out until after a month later when we received the first bill. Its the worse facility Ive dealt with. They didnt even try to work with us. Provider: Libertin Colette & Gupta Adarsh. If you see their names, Id start looking for another place to go. Hopefully that saves someone else the pain of dealing with them.
Maybe okay for other things- I wouldnt recommend for emergency orthopedics. My son and I went to the ER when he broke his leg. He reported a pain level of 8. His pain was never treated, not even when they were manipulating/ casting and x-rating his leg. Ice was provided only after I asked. I cannot BELIEVE a 12 year old with a broken leg was being treated like a drug seeker. The opiate epidemic is real. But get a grip people, broken legs count in the world of treating pain with meds. When I asked the extremely rude ortho resident if she would be prescribing him pain meds she defensively, said :Tylenol and ibuproohen should control the pain ( like some stock tag line fed at some cut back on opioids training). Trusting the doctor, stupidly, we came home and tried to control the pain of a broken leg in a fresh cast with ice, elevation, and ibroprophen. It has been a hellish experience for my son. When we rushed to the ER I assured him that the doctors were there to help, and that they would give him something to ease his pain. That used to be the case maybe. Now unfortunately it seems that doctors are strongly discouraged to treat pain and rather encouraged to minimize, invalidate and remain skeptical. Systematically you could tell the whole staff wasnt going to treat his pain. There were aspects that were pleasant. Some of the staff really stood out in their kindness compassion and ability to connect with my little guy. When we Eventually met our Doctor ( no greeting). She basically lectured my son about his broken leg which happened while skateboarding. She was awkward and weirdly hostile. She was mean to him when she screwed up his cast and had to redo it, to the point where he asked: was it my fault? Did I screw up? She dialed it back a bit. But basically seemed completely annoyed that she was working with him. I keep wondering about her, now that I have been moved enough by my bad experience to write a review; what would this Doc say if she heard my son screaming in pain, trying to sleep at night, completely tormented by a cast that she possibly screwed up? Would she stand there and shrug? All smug and puzzled? So adhered to whatever beliefs she may hold about kids that break their legs-drug seeking parents, prescription protocols etc....did she even see a person?I called back twice. On the third time I finally spoke with someone who was willing to prescribe pain medication. My 12 year old son who is normally stoic was sobbing in pain in the background. Maybe it helped. Maybe the person on the phone was in the business of helping people. Pain medication is sometimes needed. Dont make little kids suffer for your bottom line. Period.
Was an awful experience and waste of my time. My family Dr, who is part of Akron childrens, would not let me schedule at actual appointment at the Dr office instead insisted I took him straight to the er in akron. So thats what I did all for them to simply look in my kids mouth and ears said he looks healthy and sent me on my way please tell me how that helped the fact my son stopped breathing last night in his sleep? Both Drs who came in ha different stories to tell me. 1st said he was too young for sleep apnea and the second said to go see an ENT to see if he has it? Definitely not impressed and definitely dont trust my sons life in the hands of this er.
Excellent service every time we come here, very children and family oriented. I had the opportunity to visit numerous hospitals and emergency rooms but this one is on the top of my list when it comes to child care. Residents of Akron and surrounding areas are very lucky to have facility with this level of excellency and professionalism in their city.
This is primarily a warning. ACH charges over $1000 for a standard ultrasound. Most places charge $200-300 or $400 for a fancy 3D ultrasound. Just an FYI in the crazy world where you can rarely find out the cost of a medical procedure ahead of time and wait months to get a surprise on your bill.Facility was clean and staff was generally nice.
I am incredibly frustrated with the financial/bureaucratic part of this hospital. They have no system or recourse for disputing bills. For their occupational therapy (for kids), they are able to charge more than ordinary because their hospital is classified as a trauma hospital. The people working for them do not have medical doctorates (but medical certificates), and have set charges of over $300 an hour.
I am only speaking from the experiences I have had with the Boardman campus ER.The Akron main campus and everything else there is great! This place saved my life when I was a baby, having to perform an open heart surgery on me at 16 days old. But,my experience at the Boardman ER is nothing near pleasant! I got hit in the eye by someone at school I didnt even know at age 13(three years ago).My dad had to pick me up from school and take me directly to the ER.It had scratched my actual eyeball,so I was in much pain. When we got into the ER we had to wait for 4 hours to even be seen by a nurse! And once I did see a nurse and/or a doctor they all kept acting like I wasnt telling the story and I was lying about what had happened. They kept saying things like now tell me what really happened and I know your not telling the truth. I kept trying to explain to them that I got hit by someone I didnt even know (mind you,my school had it all on video tape and caught who did it.)I got so frustrated with them I was on the verge of tears,It took them at least 15 minutes before they stopped asking me the same rude questions over and over before they Accually started treating my bleeding painful eyeball. Mind you, they treated me like a 3 year old through-out this visit, even though I was 13 at the time. For this reason I will NEVER go to the Boardman ER ever again.
Was planning on bringing my son there but after read g all the reviews I defantly will not! Every reply from here was the exact same yet it did state the persons name but every other word was the same from before, (computer pre-typed) they sound very uncaring! Im from Columbus so Ive seen how a large childrens hospital should be. This place seems not to care about the child but only the money, THANK YOU TO ALL WHO LEFT A REVIEW. YOU HELPED ME DECIDE NOT GO BRING MY CHILD HERE, lookijng elsewhere now......Smh
I was sent to this hospital by Mercy Medical for further testing only to be forced to go to this hospital by ambulance, sit in a freezing cold, dirty waiting room for at least 2 hours (it was so cold i felt bad for the 20 something little kids who also waited as long as me) and once i finally got brought back to the room, that room was also really cold and i only got one test done and they never came back until they sent me home. I was told by the Dr. That no testing was actually needed and that i was sent for a suicide watch. If that is the case why was i alone for over 3 hours in that room, and did they not care that I was vomitting and had a high fever and a rash on my face?? I had been on antidepressants at the time but i never mentioned being suicidal, I just wanted to stop puking. As you can probably guess they didnt even do anything for that.
Ive been calling and leaving messages for a week now to schedule my sons surgery. I got 1 phone call back and of course didnt have my phone on me so she left a message saying how short staffed they are and to call back between 1-430. Still no answer and no call back after I left at least 6 messages. Ridiculous.
In response to Darlene Matthews:Rather than immediately to jumping to Race as the reason the second incident happened the way it did. Isnt it more likely that there was such a problem with the large crowd, that a meeting was held and a new policy implemented, to make sure the disruptive type of thing did not happen again... it was unfortunate that the next person that came along happened to be black, but it would not have mattered what color that they were, the same treatment would have been carried out. A hospital cannot have large crowds disrupting the staff. It could be the difference of life and death. Racism is not always the reason things happen.
Beware of price gouging! $1100.00 for a 20 minute hearing test. I was referred by akron childrens clinic. Akron childrens hospital told me its more expensive because I went to a speciality hospital. I guess this gives them the right to gouge me? If I could give zero stars I would. Very disappointed!
I called to ask if I had to make a appointment to get something looked at and she sounded as if she was irritated by my question and she said well what are you going to the ER. I said Im not sure if its that serious and she said ok and it sounded like she transferred the call and whoever picked it up hung right back up, I thought that was rude. I just wanted some help Im in pain here.
Loved loved loved this hospital until you have to deal with customer service and screwing bills up without a care and then selling them off to collection agencies because your disputing the bill terrible terrible terrible customer service Im still in shock of how bad they screwed this whole thing up.
Financially driven healthcare that will attempt to get you to stay based on hospital policy and census goals vs. actual medical necessity. The result beautiful facility with RVU focused physicians that are held to financial expectation so much so that they unethically practice medicine. Result misled patients and families by strong arming care measures through the use of scare tactics.
Douglas Beltz is an employee of this hospital and tweeted Monkeys feeding monkeys to the monkeys regarding the little boy that fell into the gorilla cage at the zoo. It is my understanding that this racist man works as a hospital HR Manager. So I hope that this hospital addresses this issue accordingly.
I would like to point out a particular employee at the Akrons Childrens Burn Unit in the Out Patients department, Her Name was Jessica Foster at the Developmental Pediatrics she really stood out in a wonderful and mighty way to me (Grandma), My son and My Grandson on 8/15/16 at 6 p.m... My Grandson had burned his right hand on a wood burning utility device on Saturday August 13 under his Mothers care and she took him to Altman hospital that same day for treatment, they said if the burns broke open to take my grandson to the burn unit in Akron since he was a thumb sucker and was afraid of infection.. Well, needless to say his blisters broke open and we picked up my grandson and went to the Burn Unit Out Patience , the office was closed and lights were dim down , it was closed for the day and would have had to go to the Emergency department instead, which would have been a long nightmare, but instead the lovely lady behind the counter asked how she could help us, we told her our dilemma and she didnt even hesitate, she took the information , and took wonderful care of My 3 year old Grandson. This woman was Heavenly as a person could be... She was so sweet, she made my grandson feel comfortable and not scared.. She was a true saint not only to my grandson but to my son and myself as well.. I was totally blown away with her professional kindness and caringness she displayed.. Anyone who ever encounters her will be truly blessed.. I give her a 5 star service.. Dont get me wrong, we still had a wait for about 2 1/2 hours for the doctor to make it in to see My Grandson, because he was in surgery, but This beautiful Angel kept My Grandson comforted while she was there.. Thank You Jessica and staff...
This used to be a top-notch hospital and now that theyre growing bigger and bigger they are less personable and 3 weeks ago I took my son to the ER because he was running a fever and he has this cough well I thought it was pneumonia they did nothing they looked in his ears and throat said he had a virus and sent him on his way I just learned today from his follow-up from his Akron childrens hospital CHPA doctor that he has whooping cough he tested positive for whooping cough so over the last 3 weeks of being to the ER how many people has he infected I dont know who to tell to get antibiotics for precautionary..you would think with whooping cough being the big thing across the United States they would have at least tested for it.
My son was in the NICU for 5 days and this is the best hospital the nurses and doctors where amazing and very attentive to our son and running test making sure they kept us updated we stayed in his room there was a pull out bed and a bathroom with showers very impressive for a NICU...dont take your newborn anymore else but here you will thank me later : )
Surprised once again i dread going to er but ended up there today after a eye injury with my son.....everyone from the nurses to the doctors were all super fast and wonderful......in and out in about a hour i was very happy with the treatment and the bedside manner.....thank you!!!
My daughter has celiac disease, had an episode what I told them I believe was a seizure, she also had her regular symptoms vomiting etc, I ask for them to contact her gastrointerolist more then once, so I ended having to call myself, he told me they never called or took the celiac blood test, they did take tons of useless tests, taking blood, urine and gave me many things it could of been, the night shift nurses very loud kept waking her all night, they kept forgetting to get her liquids, then solid foods i needed to remind them, morning after realizing that they would not do what she needed, I told them to release her they kept making excuses why they couldnt its obvious they just wanted money, 6 hours after the first time I ask finally she was, we went to her gastrointerolist and got the blood labs, and guess what her tests were abnormal high tgg iga test, we had one nurse who did her job and seemed to understand, never again take her there

2021-02-01I love Akron Childrens. From the moment my son was born, his stay in the NICU was amazing. The nurses were attentive and friendly and very helpful. When I had to leave due to my own health emergency they helped facilitate me getting to Akron General nearby and saved my life. I appreciate all the hard work that they do. I cannot say enough great things about them and will be forever grateful for what they did for my son and I.

My son is a big kid and didn’t have much help in the other hospital that being said the rehab employees jump right in !! 2022-01-29Sent an email over a week ago to patient services/advocate about a pretty big concern and have heard absolutely nothing from Patient Services or the Department that the concern is related to. Definitely feel like the hospital is not looking out for the best interest of my son.we care for every child that comes through our doors.... Technically true but funny a department has refused to care for my son due to his special needs....hmm....goes against the reported motto of the hospital.I generally do not like to leave public reviews for places but maybe I can get a response this way. No other way has worked.

2022-02-20The staff in the mental hospital were absolutely awful. they got my meal wrong everytime. every time i had asked for something they would forget. they took my medication and didn’t give it back when i left and had my mom drive a hour to go get it. when it was their fault. the staff where awful. full of attitude. would not recommend at all.

2022-03-09Went in for my kiddo having a temp at 3a. Place was dead and we were the only ones there. Security was super polite and friendly but I still wasnt allowed to go back with my wife or son (Im over the COVID regulations at this point)About 30 minutes later she calls me and says they havent seen her yet and that my kiddo is burning up and blowing a fit. I asked if they took his temp, and she confirmed. They never told her what it was.She went up to the desk to ask about his temp, wasnt acknowledge, so she left. We ended up going to another hospital.A little communication goes a long way, but no communication occurred.

2022-04-14I took my 2 year old with a fever and basically lethargic, waited over 3 hours and was never seen. She was miserable and they seemed to not care. When we arrived I was 1 of 4 people in the waiting room. We left once the waiting room kept filling up and we werent getting any help. The front desk lady told me someone had been waiting 5 hours, thats ridiculous, youre an emergency room, yet treat every patient like theyre fine to wait. Id give zero stars if that was an option

2022-02-11They are terrible. My wife broke her two toes and they just slapped a boot on and sent her home. They didn’t give her any medicine or anything, she’s been crying in pain all day! The doctor lied and said the numbing shots would last a day and didn’t last 5 hours. My wife’s toe literally was at a 90 degree angle and the other toes bone was slit in half, no crutches or wheelchair was provided. I definitely will not be going back to this horrible hospital.

2022-05-06Im convinced that Akron Childrens Hospital is one step from a criminal organization. My experience after numerous instances over many years is that their patients are no more than case numbers. And because they are dealing with the children of loving parents they seek to take full advantage of desperate guardians. Their pricing and lack of financial assistance pails in comparison to medical companies like Summa. Youll get just as good of care going anywhere else and not have to refinance your home.

2022-03-18Took my child there today because she was suicidal. They sent her home and recommended she get some counseling in addition to the counseling she already gets! Gave her zero help!! I can’t even get her to eat, drink, or go to school, but they sent her home and recommended counseling!

2022-05-08Akron Childrens Hospital is driven by profit. My son spent 10 min sonography section and was charged $974 for that part of the visit. Ridiculous. You wait long for doctor to show up, you have to answer nurse, then trainee and then doctor gives a passing visit. Average service but overpriced.Ill avoid this place for my kid and recommend that you also avoid this place.
