Best Indian food! It was my first time and I enjoyed the wonderful flavor and the portions were great for the price. I had Lamb and shrimp it was delicious. I could have been happy with just naan and their yogurt dip. The staff was amazing, they were all so kind. I will definitely be back!!!
So. I LOVE this restaurant! I love the food and the service and overall experience! My husband and I dinned in about a week ago and we loved it! Unfortunately we had to leave early because I was still recovering from a cold in which I thought I was fully recovered. I thought I was ready for spicy again but I started coughing and could not stop. The staff was so understanding and friendly with me and helped us make our dine in food to go ( I asked them since I felt so embarrassed). We went again a couple days later and it is awesome! The food is delicious! Both the servers I had were great as well! If I could give 10 stars I would!
Great service. The hostess/server provided so much great information regarding the different dishes provided and spice level. He was such a nice guy. I ordered the Chicken tikka masa which was recommended and I’m pleased with the choice . The dish provided so much flavor I asked for a spice level of 3 and it was perfect,I tried a assortment of appetizers which helped me decide what I liked and didn’t like for my next dining experience here. This is such a great restaurant
One of our favorite local restaurants. Excellent food, quick service. We miss dining in (they do offer, but were still mainly ordering takeout). Pretty good on letting you choose spice levels (1-6); I like my food extremely spicy, but spouse prefers almost no heat and were usually both happy with what we get.
I have been going to this place for the past 6 years. But it came to a point where I am not going back again. Not because of their food ( which tastes pretty good) but the way waiter (KHAN) treats people of color. He hates him so much that he hates every one else around him. We went to dine in last Saturday. He was rude to us every single time he served at our table. From placing the plates on the table to the way he answered for any question we asked, he was very rude. He was doing fine when it comes to the white people dining on other tables. Despite saying “Thankyou for the food” three times, he never responded to us. My friend was waiting at the register to pay and he brings the check and hands it over to me. When the service is this bad, I don’t want to go and pay to get myself and my friends insulted. You have lost a good loyal customer.
We ordered food from Ajanta based on their Google rating but were disappointed with the food. The meat in the goat biriyani was tasty and cooked well. However, the rice was undercooked & it tasted like pickle rice.We had also samosa & sheek kebab. The samosa was good but the sheek kebab was dry and did not taste well.Overall bad experience for us. We ended up throwing most of the food away. Our regular indian restaurant in miamisburg has a very good taste but they have a long wait time for delivery or pick up which is why we went to the alternative. Will not go back there anymore.
Love this restaurant! They have the best chicken Tikka Masala I have ever had. My husband always tries something new and he loves everything they have recommended. Top notch service too. The gentleman who served us was so friendly and took great care of us. We will be back and we will always recommend this restaurant! I just wish I could give them more stars for this review!
We started ordering delivery from this restaurant during COVID and really enjoyed the food. Went there in-person for the very first time a few days ago and not only was the food delicious, but the service was really wonderful, as well.We ordered appetizers and asked that they be brought out as soon as possible so that our 2 year old had something to munch on while we waited for our meals. The waiter immediately took the appetizer order back to the kitchen and then came back to take the rest of our order. On top of that, prior to returning to take the rest of our order, our waiter brought our son a bowl of rice with chickpeas and sauce to tide him over while the appetizers were being prepared.Their food speaks for itself but their customer service and atmosphere take it over the top. Five stars!!
Great food and great service. We ordered lamb saag, chicken tikka masala, and paneer makhani. We’ve had the saag and tikka masala before at other places, but makhani was a first. Everything was really tasty, and it was nice that everything didn’t taste the same like it does at some places. It would have been five stars, except that the level 4 spice seemed the same as the level 2. I like spicy food and when it isn’t as expected it makes me a little sad. Next time I’ll order a 6/6.The waiter suggested the aloo paratha, which was very good. My daughter ordered the chef’s special nan. So good.We also tried ras malai for the first time. Wow.They’re on DoorDash too. Check them out!
Food is good... prices are good... but I dont know that the guy is owner or not... but he is very very rude... doesnt talk with respect and in arrogant tone.. also he took my plate without even asking as I didnt even completed the food. He was answering from far away which is not a well mannered thing. And they dont staple the food and dont pack it properly when delivering for doordash. When I went there to pick for food and asked him staple it and pack it properly, he said we dont staple food and just ignored.Good food but very bad experience.
Delicious.I love Indian food but this places Tandoori Chicken is like a BBQ Hot Sauce meets India Tandoori Chicken and it yum yum yummy!Their whole menu from what I ordered in one visit is delicious. Bread yum Salad yum Mango Lassi yumIt is really delicious. Thank you
First time eating here was a great experience! Plenty of gluten free options (the owner said they barely use flour except for the obvious bread and fried foods). I had the chicken tika masala and it was excellent. We asked for a spiciness level of 3 out of 6 but it was more like a 6; way too spicy. Other than that very happy! I will definitely eat here again with a level 2.
Amaaaaazingly authentic Indian food! Their recipes transport you to India with a mouthful of flavor!! The family that owns this restaurant runs a TIGHT ship. I have ordered their food as both take-out and dine-in, and the meal stays delicious and properly packaged either way, with HEAPING rice portions, to boot!!The recipes don’t change very much, but I see that as a BIG plus, because I literally find myself CRAVING their chicken makhani! I’ve tried to recreate it at home, and I simply can NOT; their recipe is too good!!! We have tried their lamb and other dishes, as well; never have I had a poor experience or a disappointing meal at Ajanta.I also love that the name of this restaurant encourages you to learn about Indian culture! The Ajanta Caves are a major Indian tourist attraction. “The caves include paintings and rock-cut sculptures described as among the finest surviving examples of ancient Indian art, particularly expressive paintings that present emotions through gesture, pose and form.”Happy eating, friends!!
My wife and I have dined at Ajanta Restaurant on numerous occasions with large parties, just the two of us, or for quick & easy carryout. Ajanta is the ideal place to go to satisfy your India cuisine craving. Great selection of entrees, delicious flavor, and served by a friendly and helpful staff. And main dishes can be tailored to your desired degree of spiciness. Can’t wait for the next visit!
When we want Indian food, this is our only choice locally. Not because everything else is bad, but because Ajanta is heads and shoulders above anyone else. This unassuming, family-owned spot in a strip mall, is worth the trip whether their buffet is open or not. If you end up there when the buffet is open, and you like spicy, ask for a side of their hot sauce. I always overeat when the buffet is on! Whew!
Delicious delicious food. I have eaten here for years. I did the lunch buffet for the first time today and it was very good. I usually dont do the buffet because I really like spice in my Indian food. I told them this and they brought out some liquid heat for me. It was amazing
The food is absolutely delicious. My family enjoys it and so do i. Only problem is the owner was not very nice and did not even apologize when a huge hair was found in our food. She was hesitant to give us any kind of refund. It was apparently OUR fault that we did not bring our food in right after we got it and noticed the hair and missing dish in our carryout. I sadly won’t be supporting them anymore after my experience.
Very tasty and consistent Indian food. Decor is a bit drab but you dont go there for the decor, you go there for the great food. The buffet is very reasonably priced and has great options for vegetarians and meat eaters. I love the naan and the owner makes a fantastic desert that is like an orange honey rope. Overall a great spot to grab Indian in the Dayton area. I eat there at least once a month and have for at least a decade.
I’ve been to just about every Indian restaurant in the Dayton area. This restaurant has one of the best menu selections I’ve seen. I would definitely come back some time to try the lunch buffet. However, the dinner pricing is a little high and then restrooms leave a lot to be desired.
I used doordash to order food from this Indian restaurant for the 1st time. I gotta tell ya that I was very happy with the food. I had tandoori chicken, garlic naan, lamb sabaz, a mixed appetizer platter, and ras malai for dessert. Ive been eating Indian food since I was a kid from authentic Indian restaurants and Ajanta did not disappoint. What I expected the food to taste like is what I got ==>> authentic, delicious Indian food. I would eat more of it on a regular basis, but it is not as cheap as Chinese food. I would say it is 2-4 times more costly, but I love it more than Chinese food! The value is mediocre, but the entire order could definitely feed two adults and possibly one child. They also gave me a free serving of dal soup. The only thing I would suggest is to staple the paper bag the food came in to ensure it was not tampered with, Door dash did contactless delivery, but I would also prefer to know that they could not open the contents of the food containers. Overall, I would definitely order from Ajanta again (with or without door dash). Thanks!
I ordered door dash from here and got the chicken Makhani (a dish that I LOVE when made properly) and I have to say this is THE WORST chicken Makhani I have ever had. They didnt ask me how spicy I wanted it, so I assumed it would come in medium heat (which is what I usually order anyways so I was fine with it) but when I got my food, it was so mild.....the sauce tasted like creamy butter with just a little bit of tomato, and zero spice. I do understand thise are regular ingredients in this dish, but in other places ive had it, it is seasoned and spiced and has a completely different taste. I also only got like 4-5 little chunks of chicken in the order. The papardamm i ordered was good, comparable to other places Ive been....but since it is just a side item, and only $2 out of my $20 order, overall I was VERY disappointed
I cant have much heat in my food and Ajanta offers a choice from 1 to 6. The menu is clear and full of variety. All in our party enjoyed their meals, but we got the sense that we were an irritation to the man who waited on us. One of our party was extraordinarily late and we waited for them arrive, so perhaps we were there too long . . . Still, I would go again.
They were pretty sparse with the lamb/goat in my biryani to say the least (maybe 3 pieces) but the samosa and my mother’s tikka masala was excellent. I wouldn’t mind to get the others meals from here but I felt cut short on the lamb offerings compared to other places. Will come back again to give it another go.Bathrooms are dated but whatever.
This is the third establishment I’ve been to since the shelter in place about started a month ago. (I’ve been lucky to be able to not have to get out). My first impression was their readiness for the virus. All staff wearing PPE + a wall to wall temporary plexiglass installed between dining room and counter/kitchen. Which is more effort than a medical office I visit has given. The food always tastes fresh. The naan clearly is homemade, not like ordering garlic bread from dominos. The rice is always cooked to perfection and each grain separate making a very fluffy rice. There have been a couple times my orders are spicier than I anticipated after ordering a level 2 knowing Indian food can be spicy. But it doesn’t burn afterwards like some Mexican or other Asian food may. So if you aren’t tolerant of a spicy dish it will still be piquant regardless of ordering style depending on the dish. Also for vegetarians the options don’t taste like after thoughts (e.g. Chinese take out stir fried dish of just random raw vegetables). Aloo Choley and Malai kofta will leave you very satisfied.10/10 recommend.
It is THE BEST Indian restaurant I’ve ever been at! Their food is so delicious, they also have a buffet lunch, I believe it was from 12pm till 14:00, you can eat what ever you want until you feel full with a drink from affordable price. I always order chicken tikka masala, so yummy. The only thing I’m complaining about is the service, they are slow.
Honestly I have tried two other indian restaurants in Dayton and this is most definitely my favorite one. The service is not the best at times but to me the food is what counts, and their food is SO TASTY! Always hot and fresh, i will continue to keep coming back. 5/5 food. Some of the best indian food ive ever had. Big serving sizes and reasonable prices.
Genuinely had the worst experience at an Indian restaurant in USA in 4 years with FOOD AND STAFFHad asked for 2 chicken biryani and other items and waited for 20mins, drove back home 10 miles and was So Disappointed to see a Veg Biryani which was really bad tasted like its cooked the previous day.At the First place this Guy who was at the counter handed Me a Cardboard Box with Food in and Refused to give a Bag which he mentioned as he did not have enough bags but to others he gave the regular bags. When I visited the restaurant back to complain about the biryani and box he refused to respond or react. Very rude staff.I would never recommend this indian restaurant from another indian. There are far better indian restaurants at miamisburg if one can travel.Wish there was 0 star in review
I eat this food all the time. Amazing food. But I usually door dash it. The customer service is horrible though. They tried to charge double and after I corrected them started sternly saying each individual price for the order. They then refused to honor their $5 off coupon. After I gave up and decided to just pay for it they refused to take my card for payment and demanded I pay cash. Luckily I had enough on me.
For every one time the food is good there are four times that its not. Its expensive and the owners are rude. Absolutely no consistency on the spice level. There are a million other eateries in the area with better food, value and service. Give your money to one of them instead.
One of the absolute best Indian food places in the dayton area. however, they have had to raise their prices (a necessary evil in this day n age) so if youre going to have lunch at the buffet it will be 9.65 out the door , which all things considered is pretty damn good when you take the location and food quality into perspective.
I have been here on one of my friends suggestion..Food was good there is no regret in that. Ambience was awesome..!! Maintenance was clean and tidy. If there is one reason that stops me from coming back here it is the observant and rude staff. They dont treat customers in a polite way despite of that they keep watching us and literally they are ready to pull your plate from you in case you take a small pause from eating, assuming that you are done with eating. That made me and my friends to pack all the food we ordered and got it home to have. That would be better if you make improvisation in greeting people.
Great food. Lunch buffet is fire and all the food available is cooked to a medium spice tempature ( for your one friend thats afraid its to spicy). Dinner buffet in Monday and Tuesday offers a couple different options from lunch. Aggressive water filling is the norm from the host. Dont take it personally lol
Wow! This place is fantastic! Definitely one of the most solid Indian buffers I’ve been to in a while. I feel like recently the ones I’ve visited have only offered spicy dishes, which doesn’t work for my pregnant self. This place not only controlled the spice level, but also offered some dishes I’ve never tried before. Malai Kofta. What is that? I don’t know, but you might as well try! It blew my socks off and ended up being my favorite dish! I looked up recipes once I got home and discovered that the cream sauce/gravy is usually comprised of cashews, tomatoes and onions. It didn’t have meat or veggies in the sauce, it had balls made paneer and potato. Over all, this dish provided a new experience with the same satisfying Indian flavors I’d come to expect.I also really enjoyed the Saag Paneer, which actually did have the slightest kick of spice without being completely overwhelming. Other notable dishes included tandoori chicken, chicken curry, fried veggies and Kheer. Not only will we be back, but this is also a place that I would take friends and family when they visit!
BEST INDIAN FOOD EVER!!! this is equivalent to us black folks soul food. i ordered the chicken tikka masala with naan bread, i was surprised to see that they gave me a complimentary order of Rice with my order. the food tasted very fresh/hot and was very tasty, i come here at least three times a week as i work nearby at an office building, and they never disappoint. my go-to is the chicken tikka masala with naan bread carry-out + mango lassi
As other reviewers have stated, Ajanta is my go to for Indian food...or used to be. Recently things have changed including servings and quality. Containers that used to contain avalanche upon opening amounts of rice are still the same. The chicken pakora has changed over the course of time as have the veggie fritters.More recently, during a Door Dash takeout order, I was tearing into my Naan to find hair cooked within the piece. Dinner was ruined and I will probably avoid this spot for awhile now. So sad. It used to be my favorite.
I went there after hearing that the food was really good. Usually I go to other Indian establishments in Dayton but I thought Id give it a try. The food was very good but the service and ambiance was horrible. The staff was most unfriendly and started at the people eating with what can only be described as contempt. There was no music playing so all one heard was other people conversations and the sounds of eating. The staff kept messing with the lights so the light level kept going up and down. One group of customers came in and had to ask the staff if they were still serving. Im not going back there after this experience.
I order a mango smoothie and they gave it to me warm with no ice, I mean who does that in the restaurant business. And the rice they gave it to me in one container, and I ordered two separate dinners. They should have separated it. And the icecream I ordered tasted like freezer burn. Not good at all. Ill probably not visit this place again.
The only other Indian place that can compete with Ajanta is Amar India. Great food! Their lunch buffet isnt big, but what it lacks in quantity, it makes up for in quality. They dont have garlic naan on the buffet, which is the only drawback in my opinion. Definitely my go-to for Indian buffets in Kettering/Moraine/Beavercreek/Xenia area.
By far the best Indian restaurant in the United States. The food here hit every single spot. Ive been living here for almost 6 years (only 1.5 years in Dayton), and I have not had Indian food thats even comparable elsewhere. The vegetarian samosas are SOOO flavorful!! The nan didnt just get crispy and stale in 2 minutes (or even an hour), meaning it wasnt microwaved. The veggie Korma was spotless (and I usually am not satisfied until I get the chicken Korma). And the dessert...I usually do not like Gulab Jamun because theyre too sweet, but this was perfect. And the Ras Malai was AMAZING!I now have a favorite restaurant in Dayton!!!
Very disappointed that they now have a no firearms sign displayed. This will be my last visit unfortunately. I went here because its local but Im willing to make a longer drive to the Indian food places near Dayton or Fairfield mall that do not have a no firearms policy.
I will never go back there after today. It was a horrible experience!!! I feel so embarrassed and insulted....We went for a after graduation party with our guests (12people). I called to make sure that theyll hold the lunch buffet time for us. But when we reached a guy (waiter) treated us very badly. He was literally shouting at us, bcoz were five minutes late. He was so rude, that he threatened us saying hurry up! Take ur food!! Otherwise we will close it and u have to pay the dinner rate. Where is other people? I will not let them have the buffet, they have to order lunch! I just felt so insulted as a host to the lunch gathering that, I wanted to walk out... but as some of my guests had to leave early, so there was no other option! I talked with the manager and asked to be nice to my guesys, but that male waiter was still so rude.. 4 of us had to order dinner.. we were fine with ordering dinner.. as we were late.. but then the manager let us have the buffet. So we started, as we began eating, that rude guy stopped the buffet and put the left over in our table.. This is a shame how they treat their customers!! I will never ever go back there... and I suggest you all.. try to avoid Ajanta it would be best not to go there.. if theres other options available!
I have eaten at countless Indian restaurants and this one is one of the best. What seperates this place from others is the quality of food. There is a difference in the taste, like the ingredients are higher quality. The people are very nice and made sure I was satisfied with my meal. I feel this is better than any in the dayton area and a recent visit to Ambar in cincy still has me prefering this place.
After trying countless Indian restaraunts in different areas of the country, I can say that Ajanta is the best of all of them! Its so FLAVORFUL and authentic, they dont add sugar to it like many places. Lamb Saag, NavRattan Korma, Goat Curry, and everything else we had was incredible.
First time and totally won over. Tried chicken curry and chicken saag with side of garlic naan. While both very good, the saag may be the best thing Ive ever eaten in my 36 years. Large portions, we could have shared one, but happy for the left overs. Definitely will be back.
It was my go-to Indian. The staff is usually friendly enough and the tiki masala is great. However, they have roaches. A half smashed one left the kitchen and followed me into the bathroom. They know about it but havent addressed it and have a history of poor cleanliness. Its a shame as I would like to go back but refuse to eat if they have a pest problem but wont remedy it. Amar is good but their tiki is not as good. Im in a conundrum.
If youre looking for a superb Indian restaurant, Ajanta Restaurant near Kettering is amazing! We always go for the buffet. The chicken tikka masala is my favorite with saag paneer as a close runner up and rice pudding for dessert. They also bring fresh plates of naan to your table with free refills. Delicious!
Rude. I walked in, the man said one? And pointed to a table, while clearing silverware, he pointed to the buffet and seemed put out that I asked for a diet coke. There were 3 other tables in the entire restaurant. He stared waiting to pick up an empty plate as some went for seconds. I asked for a small box for what was left on my plate, they said I couldnt have a box because I got the buffet. I understand that, but I didnt load up my plate, I didnt get seconds or thirds. They would rather throw out food than let someone take home 1/3 plate of chicken tikka masala
Use to be great place, service has went down a lot this was the place me and whole family went if we wanted Indian food outside the home.... Use to love it .. but last two time ... Service wasnt great.... They were short staffed ... But will try it one more time and see if it got any better ....
Ajanta is my goto Indian Restaurant. The food is delicious, if you go at lunch time you can get the 7.99 Buffet which is amazing, everything is fresh and new on the Buffet, you can tell it hasnt been sitting long as the food is so good everyone is going back for more and more.If you grab a City Paper on your way in for dinner you can get a coupon, or donate to WYSO and get the WYSO member card!, and get $$ off :D its so good though you will not mind paying for what you get either :)
I like the food and atmosphere..Youll definitely be sweating your but off from all the spices.. very flavorful.. believe me , youll be full the rest of the day..The only complaint is it feels like the staff is staring at you wanting you to hurry up..or it could just be me..All n all a great place to experience some real Indian food.
Day for me I love this restaurant 90% of the time they have a very very good food but if you ever have a complaint and they start pointing the finger at you and telling them there’s not a chance that something changed in their food and it must be my taste but I had to go get my money back from a carry out order very disappointed
One of the waiters is being very rude to me everytime I come for lunch. His attitude is unacceptable at all. He tell me to sit in the corner with humalative voice. Idk why he always ask me to sit in the corner while he doesnt do the same with others. I think Im not coming here again because of this! Thanks!
I have in my water and the chicken has a lot of Nasty meat it was from a old chicken the people do not want to eat before the keep looking at us what are we doing it was terrible and the chicken curry was good ok then I was eating rice there was expired milk so be careful its the worst place

2021-08-13Wow!!! We have a favorite Indian Restaurant in Columbus and are always hesitant to try other restaurants for fear they wont measure up. Ajanta measured up wonderfully. Although the lunch buffet is a thing of the past, the four items we had were delicious and made to order. Hubby said that the paneer dish he had was best ever. Soda pop is by the can. Plenty served for a big eater and/or leftovers. Well be back!

2022-02-14That was some great food! My wife and I shared the lamb and shrimp in curry with some nan bread. So much flavor and the waiters were freindly and attentive. They also brought my wife a free desert for Valentines day. It was a kind of honey sauce dipped fried thing. And that was fantastic too. The honey syrup sauce flowed into your mouth when you took a bite. I cant wait to return to try something new. Highly recommend.

2021-11-18Always enjoy Ajanta. A great spot for authentic, flavorful food. I’ve dined in, DoorDashed, and ordered directly from the restaurant - all fantastic experiences. In the photo below is the Special Thal - a mixture of curries, naan, rice, and Kheer The lamb was flavorful and juicy. Spice scale is 0-6; I could go for more than 6. Overall, my favorite Indian spot in Dayton! I would recommend branching out from Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Mahkani - Indian cuisine has so much more to offer!Ajanta: please bring back the lunch buffet when able!

2022-05-07Ive never had a poor experience with the quality of their food, its consistent and great! However, this review speaks more for their timeliness with take-out orders. The last few orders I have placed that were schedule-ahead orders (hours in advance) have come out 10-15 late. I respect that the food is still hot when I get home, but sitting around watching others eat thinking this could be me is torture!

2022-04-27Have never been disappointed. Brought several friends to introduce them to the cuisine. They all loved it too. Ajanta makes the best chai tea as well. Chicken Rogan Josh is my all time favorite. The service was excellent. I only wish the lunch buffet was back.

2022-07-04Ajanta is Run by Mr. Khan. I was travelling from Michigan to Cincinnati and thought its typical Indian restaurant and visited. Its not vegetarian friendly .They waiter was not paying attention and cold towards us. There was a Americans sitting next to my table. Their request was also treated Sarcastically. Its not Hindu food friendly!!When we ordered Panneer Tikka they served Panneer Masala Yesterday. The they corrected it after 20,in... still They charged Panneer Masala charges. Again I asked to correct it.Paneer Tikka was not good in taste.

2019-10-06Ajanta is a nice and big place for dine in and buffet. I ordered paapri chaat, poori and aalo cholay today. Their chaat was very tasty. It was served with tamarind chutni, mint chutni and tomatoes. Anyone who loves Pakistani food would love their chaat. Their aalo choolay were good. I ordered level 5 spicy and trust me, it was really very spicy( which I loved btw). However, their poori felt kind of like bhatura to me. It wasn’t the kind of poori I was looking for. But it was good too.Now the reason I gave 5 stars is because of jaleebi. They have THE BEST jaleebi. It wasn’t soggy, it didn’t have cardamom taste either and it was simply amazing. I love Pakistani jaleebi and it tasted just liked that.
